Chris Grace as Scarlett Johansson is perhaps the best media I've seen on the topic of race; it is so raw, moving and reaches deep into the hurt of not knowing who or what you are, and not being seen by others, and god the ability to capture that injustice on stage is truly incredible. All my love to Chris and the dropout family for putting this together, this is art

just watched chris grace as scarlett johansson expecting some of the usual self-deprecating humour used to talk about asian identity in comedy, and instead got hit with a whimsical existential horror exploration of the ethics of degrading your own marginalized identity to fit into expectations set by whiteness. 10/10. love seeing fellow chinese ppl thrive and be backed with full creative support by dropout <3

i can’t stop thinking about the dnd bit in chris grace: as scarlett johansson, both the planetouched tiefling beat itself and brennan’s meta part at the end, and how there’s so much depth to that, the experience of making a fantasy character and wanting them to reflect yourself in a world where your people and culture do not actually exist—most of my characters look like me, they have wide noses and brown skin and marks on their faces. why do i need to do that? its a fucking fantasy roleplay game i can make any character who looks like whatever with different features realistic and fantastical i can be an elf with pink eyes or a tiefling with purple skin or a fucking cat person covered in fur but. i don’t.
it’s about that tokenization, and of trying to prove to myself that i’m asian enough. because if i let that slide what does it say about its importance? because my tables are often pretty white. because the default setting is medieval europe. because white characters are often treated as a default in fantasy. because if i don’t look like me, who else will? there’s something that feels SOOOO uneasy inside me as brennan calls out to chris : « you can be chinese-coded ! you can be chinese-coded ! »
#and it just speaks SO much to the overall themes of the show. GODDD#OOOOOO YOU WANNA WATCH CHRIS GRACE: AS SCARLETT JOHANSSON SOOOOOOOOO BAD#chris grace: as scarlett johansson#chris grace#brennan lee mulligan#dimension 20#dropout#dropout tv#dropout presents

not NEARLY enough people are talking about Chris Grace: As Scarlett Johansson. Genuinely one of the best, most touching, surprising and thought provoking comedy specials i’ve ever watched, if you can even water it down to as simple of a phrase as comedy special. If you have access to a dropout account, WATCH IT!!! You are so missing out if you don’t.

So INCREDIBLY proud of my husband Chris Grace and his new special on Dropout: Chris Grace as Scarlett Johannson.
The entire team behind this really knocked it out of the park. If you haven't checked it out yet, please do. I guarantee you it's not what you're expecting.

Oh, the new Make Some Noise episode with Ross, Paul and Chris is VERY good.
Who knew that the only way to improve the already excellent "Vent It Out" minigame was to just have aggressive "Bronxification" happening as the minigame progresses. Who knew.

Watched "Chris's Grace: As Scarlett Johansson" on Dropout TV.
What an incredibly powerful commentary on identity and racism in performing arts. How deep this stuff goes.
Honestly any commentary I could give pales in comparison to what Chris's said himself, so please just go watch it.
It's one of those comedy shows that builds on itself so much that it's difficult to pull out specific quotes or GIFs without the full context. It comes at issues of discrimination in casting so well from so many angles.
I appreciated the criticism of Dropout itself, especially the College Humor days. An internal call to action as well as an external one. Because racism won't get better if we don't examine the way it manifests on a functional level. As well as ways Chis has also fallen into the same traps. And past experiences with industry people loving this show but also apparently learning nothing from it.
Really appreciates the struggle for the self between the roles that society makes him take on, how that's internalized, and the struggle to know and embrace his own self (work in progress). So much respect for him and this message.
