Eddie stayed mostly silent in the car ride home with Chris, which he tried not to feel too guilty about. He was doing his best to pay attention to Chris' chattering about the movie he'd just seen, but he couldn't stop thinking about how hopeful Buck had looked at the diner, the warmth of Tommy's hand on his shoulder. Chris, thankfully, didn't notice anything off, and seemed utterly unsurprised when Eddie told him they had guests over.

"Can I stay up with you three?" He asked, hopeful, and Eddie huffed out a laugh.

"You already know that that's not happening," he replied. "I've let you stay out past your bed time as it is, mijo."

It has been a few months since you and Steve began officially dating. But they loved each other so much that time flew by in the blink of an eye. Now, they were unpacking their things in a new apartment where they would live together.

While unloading one of the boxes, Steve pulled out an old photo, way back before the war broke out and when he and Bucky were still close friends. Of course, they still were, but HYDRA has since infiltrated their friendship, turning Bucky into the Winter Soldier. Steve felt his heart clench as he began to imagine everything that Bucky endured while in the hands of HYDRA, his eyes shining with unshed tears.

Coming around the corner, you spot Steve staring at the old photo of him and Bucky posing beside each other, with Bucky giving a thumbs up to the camera while Steve appears to scoff at his friend in the shot. A weak smile crept on your face before you carefully approached him and reached out to rest your hand on his shoulder, offering him a reassuring grip.

"What are you thinking about, love?" You ask, noticing the expression etched on Steve's features; his brows furrowed in thought, lines written into his forehead. After a beat of silence passed by, Steve let out a small sigh.

"I just can't help but think that maybe I could've saved Bucky from HYDRA," Steve confessed, lifting his head to get a better view of your face. At the same time, you stood behind him and kept your hand on his shoulder to keep him grounded. "maybe I could've prevented him from becoming the Winter Soldier, from enduring whatever torture they put him through."

"Oh, honey..." Your voice trailed off into silence, your brain slowly wrapping around Steve's statement, the picture it painted causing your heart to break for both him and Bucky. Wanting to comfort him, you sit down by Steve on the floor, looking down at the photo along with him.

"What was it like, back then?" You ask, hoping it would steer his mind from the misplaced guilt.

"To be honest," he started, and the memories of the past, of a simpler world flashes behind his eyes. Then, he nodded to himself, "it was...hard, to say the least. Before I was given the super-soldier serum, I was...fairly thin. Definitely not up to the army standards, anyway."

"And then, after the serum?" You lift your hand up to gently brush a strand of Steve's hair back, speaking in just barely above a whisper, meant to be soothing and calming for him.

"I became Captain America. Of course, it wasn't an overnight ordeal and it took a lot of work to get higher up in the ranks, but that's what it all came down to in the end."

"Aren't you proud, though? Of who you became?"

Without saying a word, Steve nodded in confirmation to your question, causing you to smile softly at him, lean in to kiss his cheek, and allow your lips to brush against his ear.

"Good," you whisper and slowly bring your hand up to gently hold onto Steve's chin with your thumb and index finger, turning his head so he'd focus on you instead of the photograph. "I'm proud of you, more than you know."

He closed the distance between you, sealing your lips into a kiss as he slowly lowered the vintage photo back down into the box he got it from and poured all of his passion for you into the kiss, his hands reached around to hold onto your waist and pull you flush against him, pushing your soft body against his hard, muscular planes.

"How about we take this to the bedroom, hm?" He murmured against your lips, to which you didn't hesitate to answer with a nod of agreement to his suggestion.

I may be being just a whiny baby, but damn can small writers that try to do what they love get any recognition if not a like or reblog maybe a bit of advice to help us improve? I try to get some help or even suggestions and never get anything. Like I said I may be a whiny bitch baby, but I’m trying to get back to doing something I love but I feel like maybe I’m not cut out for it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Honestly I know it’s not just me but some actually get advice or even words of encouragement. I’m sounding selfish I know but I have no one to talk to. Definitely a sad pathetic thing for someone who is getting older. 🥲

Alright I’m done with my own pity party, maybe writing this out will help me get more confidence even if no one sees it. 😅
