Still more dessert to come with Assorted Swiss Rolls which were just average tasting. Skipped the Banana Cake as I am not a fan of the yellow fruit. First time seeing Longan Tart, albeit using canned fruit but it was yummy to eat.

Kueh Lapis or Kueh Lapis Legit is an Indonesian layer cake rich and moist with butter, baked layer by layer with warm flavours of mixed spice and vanilla. This one here was not rich enough, lacking the strong buttery profile it should have.

Four plates of colourful Nyonya Kueh out to tempt the casual diners but I won’t fall for it since they are commonly available everywhere in Singapore. Checked out the Chocolate Fountain but there were no strawberries in sight so not wasting my calories on it.

-for starters, the roulade pan we have onhand was cheap so it warps easily; i knew right away it was not going to bake evenly. the batter was thin, like really thin, almost like pancake batter, so i thought, “there is no way in hell on earth this is going to bake.” somehow, by some dark magic, it did. i coiled it up and let it cool down that way.
-a bunch of the cream oozed out when i coiled it up.
-because it gets so cold in the kitchen, the moment i stopped the mixer, the frosting stiffened up, so i tucked it into the oven to keep it warm and pipeable.
-i have only used the big piping bag all of thrice in my life so i’m still getting used to putting the tip on—naturally, it came off from my own nonsense as well as the cold of the kitchen making the frosting harden almost immediately, so i improvised the piping with the raw tip and then used the tines of a fork to make it look like tree bark.
in the words of michael scott, somehow i manage. a bûche de noël with irish cream filling!
