Day 89
SURPRISE! Days 79 and 85 were secretly the same AU all along! And by that I mean- wait before I get into that. Time for a headsup.
So tomorrow is Day 90. And as you know I try to do something special for those, which of course can lead to my little ramble sessions to go on for much longer than normal. And while I won’t guarantee it, this is more than likely going to be the longest one of the whole project, more than likely even longer than Day 100 which will be the post marking the end of the project.
Just to give you an idea of what kind of scale we’re talking about here, Day 90 took me a total of 3 Months, starting its creation on May 8th, and finishing on August 1st.
Alright! Now that you’re tense and speculating what in the merciful name of all that’s good is gonna happen tomorrow, let’s start talking about TODAY's art!~
Anyway, so when I made Day 85 I was trying to really think of what I could even do with an AU where the entire basis is “Oh, they’re kids.” And that reminded me! I had the same issue with the Adult AU, even if that had a bit more ground to stand on with them being adoptive parents to the Warriors of Hope.
Then it hit me! Why not combine the two of them? And thus was born the Childhood Friends AU! Though you could also just call this The No Talent AU because hey, you remember during Danganronpa WLWeek when I drew Junkan for the Talentless prompt? That’s right! It was secretly a tease for this art! Now if only I drew something for them during their college days I could have fully planted the seeds for this whole pic in your collective minds.
Anyway, core idea of this AU is the timeline is slightly shifted so Junko and Mikan (along with the whole of the DR Cast) are born slightly earlier, while the Warriors of Hope are born at the usual point they would have in the timeline, solely because this allows our two favorite lovebirds to adopt them. Hope’s Peak doesn’t exist, nor do the ultimate talents of course (Though obviously for some characters like Mikan they’re still partial to those talents. It’s just that they don’t reach the absurd levels of skill that they do in main canon). And finally, Junko and Mikan were positioned in such a way that the two were childhood friends. I feel like I worded that in a way far too complicated and excessive for something that was pretty damn obvious, but hey I like to ramble.
Anyway, I can’t remember but I think I said that with the Fantasy AU it was the only other AU aside from Vampire that I would want to make a proper Fanfic for. If I did say that, I was either wrong or lying, because eventually I wouldn’t mind telling some kind of story of this version of the characters. More than likely just from their child and highschool years, but I’m sure eventually I’d get more ideas for them in college and as adults.
The obvious dynamic here is that Junko since becoming friends with Mikan has been protecting her from bullies and not realizing that Mikan is very desperately pining for her (Don’t worry! They get together before the end of Highschool!). Also Mukuro is there! She’s got a stick.
I’m envisioning that up till they were entering middle school Junko would call her Bandaid Girl, because as kids Mikan was the kid who always had Bandaids (both in terms of wearing them and just carrying some around on her person all the time).
And look! Mukuro is in fact there, and not just that but a shit ton of other characters! I think I was really starting to crack and lose self control at this point in the project. So I decided to also make this a mini story of Mukuro getting together with Sayaka and Ibuki! Who both generally go down the same path they normally would, though eventually Sayaka becomes an Idol Manager after a short career as a proper idol, and Ibuki of course is a semi-popular musician. Mukuro has acted as a bodyguard for both of them before and will continue to do so when asked.
And of course, by the time they’re adults Junko and Mikan decide to adopt the Warriors of Hope, very legally, and they definitely didn’t hide any bodies (I don’t even know how much I’m joking about that here). Fun fact! I almost forgot to draw Masaru! Don’t ask me how that happened, I have no idea. I will admit when it comes to the Warriors of Hope and Junkan most of my interest is mostly in their dynamics with Kotoko and Monaca. Not to write off the other three, Jataro especially, but I just think that’s what hooks me more immediately.
I really tried to load today’s piece with as much as I could, because even if I didn’t know how long it’d take, I knew for a fact that finishing Day 90 would take a very, very long time.
As always, Reblogs, Comments, and Little Notes in the Tags are appreciated!~ They always make my day!~

Charlastor week 2024: Day 5 Whiskey Drinking Night
You know there are AUs that are really special to people and this one is mine. It's a Human AU but also Childhood Friends AU. It's just, they both are imperfect and love each other but hurt each other as time goes on and things change around them. and it's kind of tragic and magical (tragical). Charlie has a crush on her older friend and when she sees that he doesn't reciprocate she tries to move on but Alastor hates the idea of Charlie being anywhere but his side, why can't things be like they used to?

Childhood friend queer platonic autistic Jayrose is so fucking important to me. Because like, Jason had to learn to be self sufficient from a young age and he's been consistently been parentified by the adults who he was supposed to be able to rely on most during his most formative years. And Rose was taught how to stand up for herself, she learned that she had to be self serving to survive by Slade and the conditions her mom's death forced her into.
So now fast forward and they're both on the teen Titans due to their older brothers who they have complicated relationships with. And Rose doesn't speak English very well yet and the buzz of the city puts all of her weird new senses on overdrive and suddenly she's seeing things happen before they happen. And Jason is too small for his age and doc says he probably won't get much bigger but he's Robin and Robin has to be strong. So he fights like he did on the streets, like this could be his next meal or not, because maybe it is. What is he without Robin?
They both keep to themselves at first. Rose hides in her room or behind Joey, because she doesn't really understand American sign language yet, but his touch is always gentle and she's good at seeing what other people miss. Used to analyzing the small changes in peoples stance and face, never quite able to trust peoples words. And Jason hides away in the small book nook in the tower or the training room and he tries to be as small as he can when not on missions. He's always been good at being unnoticed.
But maybe one night Rose gets a vision, one of the bad ones that make her head ache and her eyes burn. And Jason is in the kitchen, woken up from another nightmare about phantom hands and lifeless eyes. And Rose sees the boy everyone else leaves alone, the one who reads the books with the complicated words and moves like a ghost.
And Jason turns and sees the girl with the ceaseless eyes and stiff words, he can't help remembering the stories of changelings when he looks at her. And they freeze, but then the timer for the cinnamon rolls he stress baking goes off. And so they sit there, in the Titans kitchen with cinnamon rolls and iced tea and they tell each other their names. They both sleep a little lighter that night.

(Ask, childhood friend au)
Tatsumi, how happy does Kurome get when you give her sweets she never tries before?
“She smiled one of the most adorable smile I’ve ever seen.” Tatsumi replied with a smile as he saw the cute smile on her taciturn and stoic face.

Summary: The kids that decide to pick on Alvin, always regret it in the end.
Notes: This work is a sneak peek of sorts of my future Al, Han and Dee fic (them as kids) that I'm very slowly planning. I'll probably be posting some more oneshots for this concept overtime while I decide how I'm actually going to write it :)
Their about 4 (Alvin), 5 (Hank) and 6 (Trudy) here.
@angstober Prompt 17: "Shhh..."
“Okay class, go play”.
Henry Voight, or “Han” to his friends, didn’t hesitate as he ran out to the playground. The five year old had been waiting rather impatiently to be able to see his friends.
See Henry had friends in his first grade class. But they weren’t his BEST Friends. Not like Al and Dee were. But Dee was older, already in second grade, while Al was only in kindergarten. So they only saw each other during recess.
He spotted Dee first, waiting against the wall like she always did. “Dee!” Henry yelled as he ran over to her.
Trudy Platt or “Dee” as Alvin had dubbed her when they met, looked up rolling her eyes at his behavior.
“You don’t need to yell”. Trudy complained as she looked around for their third friend.
“We're outside. Mrs. Little said I was allowed to yell outside”. Henry retorted as he also looked around.
“Where’s Al?”
“I don’t know!” Trudy replied as the two kids wandered further into the playground.
They both knew that if Al wasn’t with them, he would be in one of two spots. Either on his favorite swing or under the big tree.
Henry went to check the swing while Trudy went to the tree.
“Al?” Trudy called as she got closer. She heard quiet cries and her heart sank as she ran closer.
Sure enough, Trudy saw Alvin “Al” Olinsky curled up small. Trudy was the oldest in the group and took it as her responsibility to comfort Al whenever he was sad.
Other mean kids in Trudy’s class tended to pick on him because he didn’t speak much. The teacher told Trudy she couldn’t punch somebody just because they were mean to Alvin, but Trudy disagreed.
“Dee? Did you find him?” Henry shouted as he ran towards the tree.
Trudy didn’t reply, just wrapped an arm around Al as Henry joined them.
“Shhh, Al. It’s okay”. Trudy soothed as best as she could.
The three of them sat there for a while until Alvin pulled away enough to look up at them. He didn’t say anything which Henry and Trudy had since gotten used to.
“Was somebody mean to you again, Al?” Henry asked.
Alvin didn’t say anything verbally, but he did grab a nearby stick using it to write a name in the dirt.
Trudy glared at the dirt as she looked at Al’s writing. “Peter”. Trudy stated and before Alvin or Henry could say anything she had left probably to go give Peter a piece of her mind. Again.
“Why don’t we go to the swings?” Henry offered as he stuck his hand out for Alvin who took it with a barely noticeable smile.
The two boys went to the swings while Trudy went to deal with Peter who had dared to mess with Al again.
Trudy spent the rest of the day in the principal's office and got a long lecture from her dad, but she didn’t regret it for a second.

Another long one for the vaxleth childhood friend au.
Edit the stuff animals that were made. Keyleth was given a horse, Honey has to make an appearance and we can't trust Vox Machina with horses.
Vax learned to sow and cross stitch from his mom. Vex never was as good. He learned wood work with the Ashari. He made toys for their children when they started trying.
Vax's kids were born early, beating Vesper.
The Taven Queen is very fond of the twins. None of her champions had kids before.
Both twins can seem to understand the ravens.
Vax's daughter became a follower of the Raven Queen, so she could try to be closer to her dad.
Vax sends gifts with his raven. His 2 favorite are Knick and Knack.
Their daughter acts the most like Vax.
Their daughter spoke 1st, it was papa and she was look at the large raven that visits everyday. ( I heard splitopinions on if this is Vax, I think it is or at least a form of him)
Orym adores the twins. Will and him allow them to follow them around. He considers them his siblings.
Gilmore visits Keyleth at least once a month for tea. The twins call him uncle and he gives them magic items for their birthday. Keyleth got upset when he gave her daughter a necklace that allowed her to become invisible for her 9th birthday.
Simon was given to the twins when they turned 10.
Keyleth has had hyper fixations on animals and plants. Common in girls with autism.
These hcs could honestly work in so many of my aus!

It is not hyperbole to say that early mornings are the only time of day when the Dadan Family base is peaceful.
The sun has barely risen, the morning birds have barely begun their song and most everyone is still snoring away in their cots. Early mornings and late evenings have become Dadan’s favorite time of day, citing them as the only times she is ever allowed a moment of peace.
That peace is stalled whenever Garp visits.
“You sure you don’t wanna come with us,” you ask Ace a final time before you leave for your hometown.
Ace shakes his head with a small smile, “they’re more your friends than mine.” A true sentiment, in your six years of knowing each other, there is still a distinction between your friends in Windmill Village and your friends living among bandits on Mt. Corvo. “Tell ‘em I said ‘congrats’ though. We might end up seeing them later down the road.”
“As marines!” Garp calls over his shoulder gruffly, not waiting for you to catch up. He has one more year to change his grandson’s mind about becoming a marine before the two of you left Dawn Island for saltier pastures. If he knew that fact, however, you’re sure the marine would grab you both by the back of your shirts and drag you to the port in Windmill Village this second. “You should take after those boys!”
The boys in question are Demarius and Stacey.
They’ve adored Garp since before you knew Ace was his grandchild, constantly pleading for him to take them to a naval base. He promised to do so once they turned 16. The least you could do was bid your friends farewell before they lived out their naval dreams.
Ace rolls his eyes, “Pirate!”
“It’s too early in the morning for you two to start that old fight again,” Dadan grumbles, turning around to head back inside. This was enough kissing Garp's butt for her, tucking away her handkerchief. “I get nothing but headaches when Garp comes around.”
You snicker at the grouchy woman’s exit, looking over her shoulder. The door to the room you share is shut close but you can easily picture Luffy stretched out and snoring, limbs all over the place wildly. He’ll be adding to Dadan’s headache soon enough. “Alright, well, I’ll be back later,” you tell Ace unnecessarily.
“You should spend the night in town,” Ace’s disgruntled expression shifts into something warm. You remember a time when he seldom smiled and could only offer you scowls. It’s hard to believe how much he smiles now, your lips quirking instinctively at the sight. “You haven’t been in town for a while. Everyone probably misses you.”
You lean forward, wiggling your eyebrows, “aww, trying to get rid of me now? You’re just trying to get more of a cut at dinner.”
“Maybe,” Ace’s grin widens and you share a laugh before Garp calls after you, further away than he was last.
Damn for an old man he moves fast. “See you,” you nudge your freckled friend before turning on your feet, nearly tripping as you stumble after his grandfather. “I’m okay,” you call over your shoulder.
Garp is grumbling to himself as you approach him. You don’t need to hear his words clearly to know he is thinking about his pirate obsessed grandsons. “Those dolts,” he mutters. “You used to play marines all the time with those kids in town. Now they’ve got you talking about being a pirate. You’ll all be marines, mark my words!”
“I really only ever wanted to just sail on the seas,” you tell Garp truthfully. Even as a child when Demarius demanded you play marines because he always wanted to play marines, you never played because you aspired to be one. It didn’t have to be the marines, it didn’t have to be pirates, you just wanted to set sail on the ocean blue. Pirate merely became the subsequent medium you vowed to pursue. “The marines kinda seem,” you mull over your next words carefully. “Strict. I just wanna see the world, not be told what to do.”
“Discipline is a good thing,” is his rebuttal. He certainly was very strict in the training you unwittingly got pulled into once he discovered your true intentions.
Silence falls between you both but it isn’t comfortable, not like the silences you’re used to.
Silence in Dadan’s home is accompanied by snores or the movement of someone heading to the bath. Luffy mumbling in his sleep about the many adventures he and his dream crew are on causing you and Ace to share a look and chuckle quietly under your breaths.
It’s when you tell yourself ‘Today’s the day I actually do it’ and you count away in your head the number of Ace’s freckles until you inevitably mess up the count and have to start all over again.
It’s when it’s raining and you, Ace and Luffy sleep in an empty hollow of a tree, the croak of the frogs singing to the drops.
Silence with Garp is suffocating and the jungle is too quiet and your brain too full of anxiety-ridden hypotheticals to even think about your childhood friends you’d be bidding farewell to. Instead, the ones you wouldn’t be saying goodbye to were at the forefront of your mind.
Another minute of silence follows before you’re unable to stop the words from falling from your lips, “Mr. Garp?”
Garp hums gruffly, bark worse than his bite, “what is it?”
“Let’s say that, hypothetically speaking of course, Ace and Luffy do become pirates,” you begin nervously, wincing at how the older man’s eyes sharpened at the word. “Hypothetically!” You’ve been a recipient of many of the marine’s Fists of Love, despite not belonging to his family, you don’t fancy receiving another. “They hypothetically become pirates and end up getting taken in,” you lick your lips as you try to imagine the scenario.
To your discomfort, it is terrifyingly easy to imagine Ace and Luffy in shackles.
The spectacle the World Government would make of it all. The grand executions of the sons of Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Dragon.
The vitriol of the onlookers spewing words of hatred and damnation. No one would know who they are, not the onlookers in the crowds or the marines holding the weapons that would end their lives. Devils, they would be called.
There would be one marine who knew them, however. Who truly knew them and not what they represented. It only breaks your heart that in your many years of knowing the older man that you don’t know what end of the spectrum he falls on. No, that’s an incorrect assessment. What breaks your heart is that it has always been too easy suspecting precisely where Monkey D. Garp would fall.
In spite of your suspicions, you still part your lips and ask, “would you help them?” Uncharacteristically, you fiddle with your fingers, the index finger of your right hand being nestled by the thumb and index finger of your left. Clad in a tacky red button up with white roosters, the stocky man’s back seems broader than usual.
It’s the long pause between your question and his answer that sinks in your chest like a knife. “They,” Garp begins but you cut the man off with a laugh.
“Don’t be so serious,” you laugh so convincingly you almost believe you’re unbothered. “I was just messing around. I’m up in the air on the pirate thing but for all we know, Luffy’ll start talking about being the Marine King the next time you see him.”
The elderly marine laughs at the absurdity of your thought, “a king among marines, that’ll be the day.”
“Your shadows not with you for once?” Stacey jokes lightheartedly as he leans his head over in mock surprise at the lack of people accompanying you.
“I’m pretty sure Mr. Garp would drag them onto that boat if they did,” anything to make those two follow in their grandfather’s footsteps. “Ace sends his congratulations anyways.”
“I’m still convinced that guy was replaced by aliens,” Demarius murmurs, squinting at the mountain’s peaks with narrowed eyes. You snort at the absurdity. You, along with your village-bound friends, had met Ace when he was more angry at the world and nearly all of the people inhabiting it. To say they’d been shocked when, the next time they met him, Ace was polite and all smiles is an understatement. Demarius’ suspicious glance lasts a beat longer before he turns his dark eyes to you, shoulders set back. “You can still come with us, you know.”
You remember being 10, running down these dirt roads playing marines with your friends as a rowdy quintet.
The battles you pretended to have against whatever made-up opponents Demarius decided you’d be fighting against. He’d always been the leader of the five of you ー him, Stacy, Pierre, Lisa Lisa and you ー would find yourselves on the tempestuous seas of the Grand Line, all odds against you.
“This is not a good day for battle but it is a glorious day to die,” you remember resolutely saying, words too heavy for someone who hadn’t been in a real fight her entire life until that point.
Real fights came after you met Ace and Sabo. When you began running amok in the capital and Gray Terminal. Real battle came when their angering the Bluejam pirates caught up with them. You couldn’t say you felt glorious fighting the Bluejam pirates in the flames of their hideout. Nor could you say Sabo’s horrifying end was glorious either. There is no glory in fighting but you will do what you have to to protect who you have left.
Pulling yourself from the memories, you shake your head, “you’ll see me at sea next year,” you vow with a grin. You lower your voice so the cantankerous marine behind you cannot hear what you say next. “It’ll just be in a way that pisses off the old man.”
There’s simply one more year to go.
You, alongside the other locals, wave the boys down until they become nothing but a speck on the horizon. Well, off their asses go. You sit on the porch step of what used to be the house that belonged to you and your grandfather. I think the last time I came here it was like, you purse your lips thoughtfully. Shiiieet, 3 months ago? You seldom spend time in the empty shack now. It is only good for your occasional visits and when you’re too lazy to head back up to Dadan’s. That is where home is now.
It’s wherever Ace and Luffy are.
Ace and Luffy who you know Garp loves but will always choose work first. He always has and he always will, so you will always choose them instead.
