"I AM GOING TO KILL YOU TWO!"
My eyes snapped open at the screeching sound coming from just outside my cabin. I rolled out of bed quickly, hustling to the front door in my pajamas, to find Katie Gardner absolutley fuming in the front doorway. Her fists were clenched as she started at someone beyond the cabin door, the early morning light giving her silhouette a rosy glow.
I hadn't had a chance to look at the clock, but clearly it was much too early on a Saturday for me to be dealing with this. Unfortunately for me, as the head counselor for the Demeter cabin, I didn't actually have a choice.
I followed Katie as she stormed outside, in hot pursuit of whoever had gotten on her bad side. As she stepped further into the light, I realized she was absolutley dripping wet, and the most likely series of events clicked into my head at the exact same time I heard the Stolls cackle.
Damned Hermes kids. I knew better than to expect them to ever stop pranking us completely, especially since Travis seemed to use it as a way to flirt with Katie, but did they have to do it so early in the morning?
By the time I cleared the Demeter cabin's front steps, Katie had already chased the Stolls halfway across the lawn full of cabins, shouting and hurling seed packets at them as she went. With a little Demeter magic, she made the packets explode as soon as they got close enough to the Stolls. For the sake of every single camper still asleep, I needed to put a stop to this sooner than later.
I snatched up my own handful of seeds that had been sitting outside the cabin, then took off after Katie, Connor, and Travis. The Stolls kept cutting back and forth across the grass, Katie always a few steps behind them, which made it much easier for me to catch up to the trio by skipping the zig zags. Connor made it almost to the treeline of the forest before apparently remembering he might not want to take a fight with a Demeter kid into the woods, so he came to a screeching halt. Travis, who'd had his head turned to grin at Katie, ran right into his back. The two went toppling to the ground, and when I finally reached them, Katie had her arm pulled back to annihilate the brothers with whatever she managed to grow out of all the seeds she'd grabbed.
"Nope!" I cried, using one hand to stop Katie from following through on her throw while I scattered my own seeds with the other. A little concentration and a wave of my hand later, some flowers had sprouted and wrapped lightly around the Stolls' legs, keeping them in place at least for the moment. I turned my attention fully to Katie again.
She scolwed me, her half-dry hair and near-growling tone giving her quite a wild look.
"What are you doing? I had them!"
"Katie, as much as I get where you're coming from, I can't let you make the Stolls into living tress."
"Why not? They deserve it! It'd finally stop them from showing up at our cabin at five in the morning on a Saturday just to mess with us!" I grimaced. I knew it was early, but 5am... oof. "See! You know I'm right."
I sighed. "While my regular camper heart might agree with you, since my alarm was you screaming thanks to their prank... my senior counselor brain is reminding me we don't get to kill the other campers, even when they might deserve it. Sorry, Katie."
"So what, they just get away with it? Like nothing ever happened?"
"No, definitley not." I turned to the Stolls again, hands on my hips. They'd both managed to get about halfway out of my flower trap, but they froze on the spot when they noticed my attention on them. "What do you think, boys? You drove a daughter of Demeter to a murderous rage. I think that's gonna take quite a bit to make up for it."
They both sighed, relaxing back against the ground as they shared a look. They communicated silently for a few moments, Travis opening his mouth to say something before Connor held up a hand. Finally, Connor turned back to me.
"We'll take her stable cleaning chores for the week," he said. Katie and I scoffed in sync.
"Nice try, Connor. How about this? Both of you take all of Katie's chore spots for the next week, and I'll schedule you a few extra rotations in the stables, since you seemed so willing to take over there. And if you wake me up this early in the morning by going after one of my siblings again, I might just roll over and go back to sleep while Katie takes care of the problem for me."
Travis huffed, flopping onto his back on the ground, and Connor narrowed his eyes at me.
"That seems a little harsh."
"Oh, by all means. Let me wake you up at five tomorrow with screaming and a run and see how you feel about it."
"Fine. Message recieved," he huffed, rolling his eyes. I waved my hand to free them both from the flower trap and they stood. They made it all the way to the door of the Hermes cabin, Travis shooting a wink at Katie as he went, before Connor paused and turned back to me. "We'll make sure to schedule our pranks in the late morning from now on."
The grin those two gave me before ducking through the door was mischief incranate, but I just sighed. Now that the crisis had been dealt with, all I wanted was to go back to sleep.
"I'm going to kill them," Katie huffed from beside me. I turned to her with a lopsided smile.
"Even Travis?"
"Of course Travis! Why would you even ask me that?" I raised an eyebrow at her, and despite her scowl, she blushed furiously. "Oh, shut up! A traitor in my own house..."
She shook her head, grumbling as she headed back to our cabin without looking back at me. I just grinned as I watched her go. As much as she liked to complain about the Stolls, I'd seen her shoulder to shoulder having the time of her life with them too many times to believe she really hated them. Travis especially.
The sound of a door opening and closing drew my attention away from Katie and back to the Hermes cabin. I got ready to hurl another handful of seeds if the Stolls had decided to pick possibly the worst time ever to show their faces again, but instead, I got a much nicer surprise. Luke, my boyfriend and the head counselor of the Hermes cabin, wandered out in a camp t-shirt and his pajama pants, his hair a delightfully ruffled mess.
"Hey," he called as he walked towards me. "Any idea why the Stolls just came running into my cabin muttering and plotting?"
"Is that not just the base state of Hermes kids?"
"Very funny," he huffed, and I grinned.
"They dumped a bucket of water on Katie's head this morning. I woke up to her screaming bloody vengance, and just managed to catch them before she got her revenge. In the interest of keeping the peace, I gave them all her chore spots in exchange for Katie not attacking them. Then I made sure they knew I wasn't going to get up to save them next time if something happened before nine am."
Luke laughed, pulling me in close for a hug as he finally reached me. I let him, leaning into his chest and sighing in the now-peaceful morning.
"You know they're just going to wait until about five minutes after nine now, right?"
"Yeah."
"As long as you're prepared. Still. That was good work." He pulled back with a smile, then leaned in as if to kiss me. I leaned back, putting a hand on his chest to stop him, and he frowned.
"Kisses are for boyfriends who don't abandon me to deal with his problem-children on my own. At five in the morning."
Luke huffed a laugh before pulling me back into his chest. I let him, although I put up a little resistance just to make my point.
"Hm. I don't suppose there's anything I can do to make it up to you? Get back in your good graces?"
"I don't know, Castellan. Connor and Travis made me run at five in the morning."
"Oh, it's Castellan now, is it?"
"Mhm."
"Alright. What if... I put together an extra-special date for us tonight? Something romantic, relaxing, and maybe even a little magical. Would that get me back in your good graces?"
I hummed pretending to think about it. Luke kissed the top of my head, then pulled back again enough to look me in the eye. He raised an eyebrow.
"Well?"
"I guess that might work. Depending on just how relaxing and romantic said date is."
"Oh, I can promise you right now, it'll be the most romantic and the most relaxing. And even better, I'll make sure nobody can interrupt us with camp problems, pranks, or anything else for the rest of the night."
"You really think you can make that happen?" I asked, letting the skepticism creep into my voice. By virtue of being two of the oldest campers who'd also been here close to the longest, we got roped into everything. Luke just grinned back at me, a little bit of his family resemblance to the Stolls creeping through via the glint in his eyes.
"I really think I can."
I grinned, dropping the huffy act and leaning up to kiss him on the cheek.
"Well, good. Because after this morning, I need a night like that with my favorite person."
"So I take it I'm at least mostly off the hook?"
"Mostly. All the way if and when we get our peaceful night tonight."
"Can't wait."
We shared a smile, then Luke leaned in to kiss me, and this time I let him. Despite the early hour, the moment alone with the camp so quiet as the sun rose over Long Island Sound was actually pretty nice. After a moment, though, I pulled back, and Luke and I shared a sigh.
"You wanna head to breakfast while we can still get away with sitting at the same table? Before the rest of the campers show up?"
"Always," he said, smiling again and taking my hand in his. The two of us headed off to the dining pavilion together, taking the rare opportunity to enjoy a peaceful morning together. Would I have preferred to still be asleep right now? Sure. But if I couldn't get that, then a nice, quiet morning with Luke wasn't a bad second option.

METAL FLOWERS(LEO VALDEZ X GN!DEMETER!READER)
Ofc! Sorry this is kinda late, If you seem to see anything you might suggest changing please let me know!
â ď¸WARNINGSâ ď¸: fluff, Leo is able to rest his head on readers shoulder(idk if thatâs a warning, but Iâm gonna put it anyway just in case)
SUMMARY: Leo makes reader a gift, a bouquet of metal flowers, and it leads to them having a rare moment of quiet in bunker 9
!!!!!NOT BETA READ!!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For being a son of Hephaestus, a man said to be repulsive, they thought that their boyfriend was the cutest person they had ever seen. Heâs been working on a project for a few days now, not letting them know what it is, claiming âitâs a secret!â every time they asked.Â
They had picked some flowers earlier that day and were putting them into a vase in bunker 9, a thing they had started doing after they and Leo had started dating, just to liven the place up a bit, make it feel more homey and less like a workshop. They also do it so Leo has a constant reminder of them in bunker 9. Anyways, moving on, they were arranging the flowers in the vase when they feel arms wrap around their waist and a head on their shoulder.
They move their hands from the bouquet of flowers to bring one of their hands up to run through Leoâs hair. âHello, my love.â they turn around in his embrace, wrapping their arms around him, their smile wide.
His smile widens, placing a peck on their cheek before he says âhey floraciĂłn*, I made something for you.â He smiles cheekily, reaching up and placing his hands over their eyes, leading them over to his work table.
Their smile softens as he removes his hands from over their eyes, looking at the bouquet of metal flowers. âThank you Leo, theyâre beautifulâ They take the metal flowers into their hands before placing a quick kiss on Leoâs cheek.
His smile widens at their reaction to his gift and their thanks. He feels his cheeks get warm as they press their lips to his cheek, and a small section of his hair bursts into flames before he quickly puts it out, trying to act casual and like he didnât just get flustered and his hair didnât light on fire. âYeah- yeah, of course!âÂ
They chuckle as they watch part of his hair catch fire after they press a kiss to his cheek and their smile widens as they get an idea. They take one of Leoâs hands into their dominant hand, spinning him around in a twirl before pulling him close and wrapping their arms around him.
He laughs as they spin him around before wrapping their arms around him, pulling him close. He reciprocates the embrace, wrapping his arms around them, swaying back and forth, placing his head on their shoulder, letting out a tired, yet still content, hum.
Their smile softens at the peacefulness of the moment, and they give Leo a comforting squeeze, swaying back and forth with him, and their voice is quiet as they speak next to Leoâs ear. âI love you, repair boy.âÂ
He smile widens and he responds in kind to their declaration of love. âI love you too, floraciĂłn*,â He says, burying his face into their shoulder, adding on a quiet murmur. âA lot.â
wild flowers - percy jackson
Request: yes! "Can I request a platonic Percy Jackson x Child of Demeter!Reader based off the new Disney series? Where Child of Demeter!Reader is significantly older than Percy (17/18 maybe?) and is the one to welcome him to camp instead of Luke. Reader is more gentle and understanding to Percy's questions and is in general sort of a parent figure in the camp?" Pairing:Â Â percy jackson x demeter!reader (platonic) Summary:Â Â you welcome the newest kid at camp half-blood Warnings:Â Â none (omg??) Word count:Â Â 1.1K A/N:Â was excited when I saw the new episode will be out on Tuesday but then I looked at the time zone and it's 3 am for me so I'll still watch it on wednesday :') thanks for your request, enjoy!
you try not to look away as percy, the newest addition to camp half-blood, nearly shoots another camper. he falls to the ground due to the force of the bow.
'alright.' you say, walking over to see if percy's okay. 'so not archery.'
'I didn't mean to!' says percy, looking at the kids who had flattened themselves to the ground to avoid being shot.
'of course you didn't, they know that. can I have the bow?' you say.
percy quickly shoves the bow in your hands as well as the quiver of arrows. you hand them back to the apollo kid who was teaching him with a thanks and an apologetic smile.
'see, I suck at this.' says percy. 'I'm not good at anything.'
'hey, that's not true.' you say. 'everyone is good at something. c'mon, I'll take you to my favorite spot at camp.'
that gets his attention. 'your favorite spot?'
'yep. right this way.'
you lead him away from the archery field. you can tell he's curious. you take him to the strawberry field, where some of the satyrs and your siblings are tending to the plants.
you walk past the strawberries to a field of grass where wild flowers grow.
'it's pointless.' says percy as the two of you sit down.
you frown. 'what is?'
he gestures around. 'all of this. I'm not one of you. it's clear there's something wrong with me. none of this matters because my dad won't reveal himself, he doesn't care. my mom is gone. I suck at archery. and I can't work in the forge. I can't do anything.'
you look at him. most kids are tough on themselves when they arrive. percy isn't any different.
'at least you didn't suck as much at archery than I did.' you say. 'contrary to you, I actually did hit someone when trying out archery '
percy's eyes widen. 'you did?'
you nod. 'apollo kids had to patch them up. luckily it wasn't that bad. but still I haven't touched a bow since. and I'm also not good at sword fighting. I only carry one because it's the weapon I suck the least with.'
'what if you suck at everything?' asks percy softly.
you smile at him. 'this is all normal. we all felt like this when we came here, regardless if we could already fight or not. and look at me, I still can't fight that well. I'm a joke compared to luke and clarisse if it comes to fighting. gods, even annabeth is better than me and she's your age.'
you point ahead to the strawberry fields. 'my cabin doesn't bring forth the best fighters. and that's okay. we're good at other things.' you say.
percy looks at your siblings, sure enough, not a lot of them carry weapons. maybe you do because you're head counsellor of your cabin.
'when did you find out who your mom was?' asks percy.
you sense he's not just curious about your godly heritage. he wants to know how long it would take before his father claims him. and he already knows there are unclaimed kids.
'for me it was pretty clear. I've always loved plants. I've got an impressive garden back at home.' you say. 'demeter claimed me my second day at camp.'
'so pretty fast...'
'for some kids it's fast. for some it's slow. some kids are very certain about who their godly parent is and sometimes they're right and sometimes they're not. you can't predict it with 100% accuracy.'
'did someone guess it correctly?'
'most of the times it's the athena kids who are right about their hunches. but they're athena kids of course, very smart. also a lot of ares kids are right. and for others it's a 50/50 chance. for instance, milo. everyone was convinced he was a hephaestus kid because he really liked to blow stuff up. turns out he's an athena kid. he's just really smart about blowing stuff up.'
'I bet I'm a kid of the god or failure or something. I'm just a regular kid, I'm not special. I don't have any impressive powers. not like you.'
'you think my powers are impressive?' you chuckle. 'I'm good with plants percy. over the years I've learned how to master those. but at first all I did was accidentally make flower patches.'
percy looks at you, frowning. 'you what?'
you laugh, then point to your shoes. they look like you've worn them every day for the past five years. which you have, somehow they won't wear down.
'these were a gift from my mom. if I don't wear them, flowers grow where I walk.'
'really?'
you nod and take them off. you get up and walk a circle around percy. and indeed, flowers grow where you put your feet down on the grass. you pick one and give it to percy, then put your shoes back on.
'it's the only thing I still can't master. maybe it's not something to be mastered. I'd ask my mom but the only time I saw her was when I was out fighting for my life. wasn't really the time to ask about flowers. she didn't even give me my shoes in person, just sent them here.'
you and percy are silent as you look out over the valley. you remember your first days at camp, how scared you were. you didn't know anyone, you were told your mom was a goddess, and you could never have a moment alone because there would always be someone who could find you based on the flowers you left behind.
'everyone here has been through what you're going through now.' you say. 'maybe they didn't experience it in the same way. I mean, you did kill the minotaur. but all of them have been confused, wondered about wether they belong, if there's something wrong with them. we all found our way in the end.'
'did you feel like you didn't belong?'
'sure. but then chiron explained to me it's all because of the gods. we've got dyslexia because our brain is wired in greek. the adhd is from our need to fight. it's all in our dna. just give it time, you'll belong. any other questions?'
'what do you do when you're not at camp?'
you smile. 'try not to run into any monsters and wait for the time to go to camp again. you'll find your family here, percy, trust me. now let's see if the aphrodite can teach you anything.'
you get up and offer your hand to percy. after pulling him to his feet, you start to walk toward the aphrodite cabin.
'you know, regardless of what cabin you belong to, you can always come to me if you have any questions.' you say.
percy smiles at you. 'thanks.'
Ί PJO DEMIGOD HEADCANONS: đž DEMETER: Goddess of Agriculture and Fertility, of the Harvest & Sacred Law, of the Earth, of the Seasons, Nourishment & Bread đ˝
author's note: I had a sudden idea about writing some headcanons Camp Halfblood demigods being claimed and what it's like for each respective god and cabin, followed by a small blurb afterwards. Thank you for reading and please like and reblog! The order is not in order of the cabin numbers. [PJO DEMIGOD HEADCANONS MASTERLIST]
When you get claimed, the ground beneath you bursts with vegetation. You look around you and notice that among the vegetation, itâs your favourites. Your favourite flowers, fruit, vegetable, and plants. Itâs almost like Demeter had been keeping an eye on you this entire time and this was her bouquet for you. A wreath of corn and plants sit upon your crown.
Your siblings cheer and help you take the bouquet of vegetation, taking the roots of each plant to be planted later on, and the rest is gathered. Youâre introduced to your cabin and siblings with a small impromptu picnic of said-bouquet as you all break bread together. As you sink your teeth into the nearest food, it fills you with energy youâre not sure how to place other than itâs good.Â
There are plants everywhere in your cabin and the inside of the cabin is almost like a botanical garden that is also never uncomfortable to sleep in. You look around and you see plants hanging from above and/or rising above. Your bed smells like earth and flowers, and there are vines curling up around the frames. As soon you touch the bed, your bunk bed bursts into your favourite flowers and plants, providing you a little bit of comfort.Â
The wreath you were given hangs above your head and it remains fresh. Itâs like a soft reminder of Demeterâs presence.
You help with the campâs business of growing and maintaining the strawberries they grow, and you find out you and your siblings all get a small portion of the profits. Itâs almost like an allowance for doing your chores.Â
Being a child of Demeter, you get along with the children of Dionysus and Mr. D.Â
You also get along with the dryads at camp, being the child of Demeter. Thereâs a sense of love and respect directed towards you. If you donât know, youâre later told by one of your siblings, the dryads, or Mr. D himself.Â
Letâs just say, Demeter is very, very terrifying and you know when they say to never mess with Mother Nature.Â
Do not mistaken for weakness and unimportance as a child of Demeter. Demeter herself is powerful, and hopefully no one earns her ire.Â
People might not find your particularly threatening, but know that when the time comes, your hand that has handled the tools that till the earth, is just as practiced as a sword.Â
Flower power to the max. You can sprout the plants beneath your feet, from the smallest of weeds that can tear apart stone through their cracks, to the network of tree roots beneath your feet that grow and grow. Fungi are also on the table and boy, there's no way more terrifying then razing down enemies with the power of fungi. You carry an assortment of seeds with you and let me tell you, a whip made out of Rose thorns go hard.
You looked at the miniature garden beneath your feet. You quickly take in the fact the plants around you are your favourites. Your favourite fruits, flowers, herbs, plants in general. You canât tell if it is the pollen or dust, but you feel your eyes prickling at the fact that maybe, Demeter had been keeping an eye on you when her claim brought about your favourites.Â
You felt the wreath of corn grow on top of your head, the vines and leaves moving and parting your hair behind your ear. It is soft, gentle, and deliberate, almost like a motherâs touch.Â
You see a bunch of campers take out shovels, spades, and other gardening tools and begin working at your feet, gathering the plants. A girl steps forward and she had her hands on her hips, giving you a smile.Â
âDonât worry about the plants. Each new child of Demeterâs claim is different and their plants are a representation of them, so we like to gather the plants to celebrate. My name is Katie Gardner, child of Demeter and cabin leader. Welcome!âÂ
You introduced yourself before catching some of the children of Demeter talk excitedly about what to make with the produce they had gathered. âSo whatâs going on now?â
Katie gently guides you to the Demeter Cabin as she explains. âTo welcome each new addition to our cabin, we also like to hold an impromptu picnic if its early or late enough before meal times, and we use the plants from their claim as the centrepiece. This also lets us get to know each other, a bit of an ice breaker if you get what I mean.â
âThatâs actually pretty coolâ you said as she led you to your bunk.
âIt is, right? I know we may not seem as cool compared to the other gods, but trust me, being a child of Demeter is just as great as the others. Weâre justâŚmore down to earth.â
The reaction you gave to Katie as she let out a laugh. âGot you right thereâ she giggled. âCome on, thereâs plenty to show you!â
STRAWBERRY KISSES
pairing: clarisse la rue x demeter!fem!reader
đ notes: I STAND BY LOVER GIRL CLARISEE đŞđŞ also srry this is super short..
it was a lovely summer morning at camp half-blood. apolloâs sun was shining, basking the demigods in warm light while they ran about the fields, rushing to the volleyball fields or beach to take advantage of zeusâs great mood. you, however, had other plans on how to enjoy the amazing weather.
walking towards the strawberry field, basket in hand, you breathed in the aroma of fresh fruits and clear skies (a/n: can the sky even smell?).
you swung your arms back and forth, smiling at the sight of your siblings walking and laughing together. as a child of demeter, the goddess of most things plants, you loved the outdoors - especially when it was sunny.
arriving at the strawberry fields, you began to work on picking the fruits and eating a few as you went, humming in satisfaction at the sweet taste.
so focused on filling your basket, you didnât notice clarisse coming up behind you.
âboo.â she whispered, feeling her breath on your neck.
âack!ââ you jumped in surprise, twisting around and coming face-to-face with your girlfriend.
âhiya, gorgeous.â clarisse smiled, giving you a peck on the lips.
âhâhey babe, gods you scared me.â
she grinned wolfishly, and snuck a hand in your basket to pop a strawberry in her mouth. âhowâs the fruit picking going?â
you stared at her adoringly, beaming at the attention. âitâs going good! i think iâm going to stay out here a little longer though, dâya need anything?â
clarisse shook her head, running a hand through her curly hair. ânah, just wanted to say hi. can i stay?â
âof course!â you exclaimed, grinning at her happily. âooh, wanna help?â
your girlfriend nodded in agreement, and the two of you spent the rest of the morning hand in hand in camp half-bloods strawberry fields - occasionally sneaking looks at each other like the lovesick teenage girls you both are.
this was a request from @annaizcool44 but i accidentally deleted it when i tried to post it
â safe in my garden, an ancient flower blooms â
jason grace x daughter of demeter âĄď¸
reader expresses her feelings to the son of zeus through a shared love of books
tw none
â Ë・ âŕ¨đŕ§â Ë・ â
âWhatcha reading?â Y/N jumped at the sound of the voice behind her. She was sitting on the porch of the Demeter cabin when she noticed the blond approaching her.
She looked up and smiled, âLittle Women,â she scooted over for him to sit next to her, âever read it?â
He shook his head, sitting beside her. He leaned over her shoulder at the page she was on, âwhatâs it about?â
She felt her ears warm at the closeness, âthese four sisters during the Civil War, and their dadâs fighting in the army so they're trying to adjust to their life now⌠I guess.â
âCan I borrow it sometime?â
Jason heard a knock at his door in the early morning. He yawned and rubbed his eyes as he stood up, walking to open it. He found on his doorstep a copy of Little Women with a sticky note on top that read âFor Jason, with love Y/Nâ and he couldn't help but notice the fresh flowers that had sprouted around his cabin.
He smiled and looked around. He saw the girl peering from behind a nearby tree. She turned away, giggling, when he looked her way.
His heart warmed. He stepped back into his cabin and flipped through the pages, he found little notes in the margins and underlined quotes.
For the rest of the day, the book never left his hands. During breakfast, during training, his eyes were glued to the pages.
Just before the campfire, Y/N peeked into his cabin, âJason?â
She noticed him wipe his eyes, âoh, uh, hey.â
She smiled and walked over to his bed, âBeth?â
He nodded, âyeah. Why would the author write that?â
She bit her lip, âJase, itâs a true story.â
His eyes widened, âno.â
âYes.â
Tears began pricked out of his eyes, âthat makes it so much worse.â
She sympathetically laughed, wrapping her arms around him. He nuzzled his head into her neck. She couldn't help but smile at how the usual tough guy was now crying in her arms over a book. A book she had gifted him.
He pulled away, âyour little note made it better though,â he grinned. He opened the book to the last page he had read, âJason, when you get here, come to my cabin, I know youâll need to.â
She laughed, âI think I know you too well.â
He nodded, âI think so.â
âYou wanna read Pride and Prejudice?â she asked, âone more sister, happier ending.â
He chuckled, âmight as well.â
She showed up to his cabin just before curfew, âthe Bennett sisters, Jane, Lizzie, Mary, Kitty, and Lydia, search for love in 1813 England,â she announced in a pretend professional voice.
âNo scarlet fever?â
She shook her head, âno scarlet fever. Jane gets a cold, but it's nothing serious.â
He hesitantly grabbed the book from her hands, âthanks, Y/N.â
âNo problem, Jason, it's nice getting to share these with you.â
âYeah, it's nice for me, too,â he trailed off, looking away, âI should get to bed.â
âRight, yeah, of course,â she smiled, âgoodnight.â
ââNight,â he replied, closing the door.
âOh, uh, one more thing.â
He slightly opened the door again, âhm?â
She took a deep breath and placed a kiss on his cheek, âsee you in the morning.â
He stuttered, trying to suppress his blush, âyeah- yeah, see you,â he awkwardly smiled, closing the door again.
The next morning she watched him sit at the Zeus table, reading the book. Her heart raced as she knew he was getting closer to the last annotation she had written. She started to regret it, what if he thought the books just made them closer friends? Of course they were friends, she cursed herself for thinking he could see her differently. He glanced up at her, he flashed a smile and a nod her way. She turned pink, looking away.
âY/N!â the all too familiar voice called to her as she sat by the dock, watching the sunset later that day.
She turned around, âJason, hi,â she shyly smiled.
He took the spot next to her, handing the book back to her, âI finished the book.â
She nervously looked into his eyes, âand?â
âIt was great!â he beamed, âeverything about it.â
She furrowed her eyebrows, âeven the ending?â
âThat was the best part.â
âJason,â she laughed, âdid you even read the annotations?â
He squinted his eyes in confusion, âof course I did.â
She opened the book to the back cover. She folded it open and showed it to him. There was written in pink ink, âWill you be the Darcy to my Lizzie?â
âI know itâs cheesy,â she muttered, closing the book and turning away.
âYes,â he paused, âwait, no. Yes to the question, not to it being cheesy. Well, it is cheesy but itâs cute. You're cute.â
She giggled, âthanks, so are you.â
He held her cheek in his hand, their gazes met before their lips crashed into one another. She placed her hands around his neck as he now held her face with both of his hands. When they pulled away, their foreheads leaned against one another and they could feel the otherâs breath against their lips.
The next morning, Jason walked out his cabin to find a field of multicolored roses had encompassed him. He looked around just to find the girl responsible standing in the middle of the flowers, holding a book. He breathily laughed and made his way over to her.
âHere,â she smiled, handing him the book.
He took it, âMansfield Park?â
âJane Austen, she wrote Pride and Prejudice, too.â
He wrapped his arms around her waist to pull her into a kiss, âsounds perfect.â
Wouldnât it make a lot of sense for a child of Demeter (pjo) to get hanahaki disease???
Since Demeter is literally the earthly goddess and therefore flowers would be included, I donât think it would even be an au. Like has anyone ever written about this or anything bc I randomly thought about it and now Iâm curious đ
âAnd for the first time, the flowers were a curse rather than a blessing. Their elegant beauty that would once comfort me, leading me to a sorrowful fate.â
A Flower in the Winter
âđž â lady l: I wrote this as a preview of that headcanon I did of Demeter a while ago, you can read it by clicking here. I decided to delve into that and how Demeter felt before meeting the reader. I hope you like it! â¤ď¸
âtw:Â mention of parental neglect.
âword count: 772.
The goddess of agriculture watched the beautiful snowy fields with a deep sense of melancholy. Her shoulders were slumped and her normally stern expression was sad and her gaze filled with unshed tears. It was like another one of her days away from her beloved daughter, she became just a dust than she used to be when Persephone was with her. She just felt empty and aimless.
She needed her beloved daughter with her. She was desperate and would do anything to have her loving daughter with her at all times. Anything.
Demeter missed her daughter very much and even the most terrible winters and the suffering of humanity with it did not help her feel better. Maybe nothing would make her feel she could never replace her beloved daughter and it's not like she wants to. She just wants to have Persephone back with her again, like they were before that bastard Hades kidnapped her.
Unfortunately none of that was possible.
Demeter took a deep breath, enjoying the cold winter breeze. It had been about two months since her daughter returned to the Underworld and again the goddess found herself alone. She doesn't remember how lonely she would be after the blessed six months had passed. With the departure of her beloved daughter, sadness completely consumed her and all the plantations were facing a harsh winter. It was a vicious and unbreakable cycle.
A loud wail was present near where the goddess was sitting and she looked towards the noise, but her eyes did not catch anything. Shrugging, she went back to focusing on her feelings, but the noise was heard again but closer. Demeter looked over her shoulder suspiciously and without much interest, but her eyes nearly popped out of her orbs after she glanced at a child, a girl she thought looked a lot like someone she detested.
This child was practically identical to the God of the Underworld. Identical to Hades.
For a few moments the goddess didn't know what to do, she was beyond confused and distraught. She was completely distraught. Just a few glances at the child in front of her was enough for her to figure out who she was.
The goddess of agriculture always knew she had a granddaughter but she never thought much about it. She never bothered to meet her despite being asked several times by Persephone, she didn't want to have to deal with yet another proof that her daughter really had been taken from her. Demeter wanted nothing to do with her, and a small part of her felt resentful of a child she'd never seen in her life because of everything that had happened. She knows it's irrational but she doesn't care.
But now looking at the tiny, frail, crying figure of the child, she didn't know what to do. Why was she there? How did she get out of the Underworld? Did she run away or did Persephone send her daughter to go comfort her mother?
She honestly couldn't say, but just contented herself with watching the child who also didn't take her teary eyes away from the goddess. The two stared at each other for a while, until the girl decided to break the silence, ''Grandma?'' The voice was low and uncertain, but Demeter heard it loud and clear.
Demeter was silent, she felt strange being called that. The girl didn't even wait to hear an answer and ran to where the goddess was sitting. Demeter shuddered as she felt small arms hugging her tightly and with a certain desperation. Not knowing what to do, she hesitantly returned the hug which grew warmer the longer it lasted.
This isn't so bad, she thought. How long has it been since I received such a warm hug?
She finally understood what had happened to her granddaughter after hearing the hurried words come out of her little mouth. Demeter felt sulky and she saw herself in that child, she had been neglected by her parents and that's why she decided to flee to the surface. And she felt a satisfaction in discovering that she was the one her granddaughter was looking for.
Maybe it's not such a bad thing to take care of a child again. It's not so bad having a granddaughter to love and care for.
Demeter decided to take in her granddaughter. She saw in her a second chance to have what had been taken from her but this time the goddess knew she wouldn't make the same mistake twice. Nobody would take her granddaughter away from her, she won't let that happen again.
It's not so bad having a granddaughter to love and care for.
Phoebeâs room on the Argo II has ivy growing on the walls and plants all over.
Sheâs always wearing hiking boots.
Phoebe gets called âDuckieâ by her siblings because of her last name.
Phoebe pretty much knows everyone at camp and is friends with almost everyone.
She unironically loves birdwatching and can recognize a lot of them by sight.
She only drinks herbal tea.
Her handwriting is really messy and sort of a mixed up combination of cursive and printing. She writes her yâs and gâs in a really weird curly way.
When she is stressed, plants grow from her hair and skin.
Sheâs a vegetarian.
Although she can heal by using the life force of plants, she dislikes doing it as it kills the plants whose life force was drained to heal her. She usually refuses to let it happen.
She has a lot of knowledge of poisonous plants and itâs basically a rule to not touch, or Gods forbid, eat anything in her room because itâs probably got some nasty effects.
Her abilities are stronger during the spring and summer and less powerful in winter.
{had this one in drafts for like a monthâŚ. still cooking up some new ocs so share so hereâs phoebe! also i just guesstimated on the year it takes place so idk if thatâs right or not lol}
daisy chains
luke castellan
x child of demeter!reader; poc friendly
masterlist
you often find yourself sitting on a random hill at camp, letting the warm morning sun soak into your skin and the slightly damp grass leave soft green stains on your jean shorts. you fiddle with the grass, often pulling out one or two strands and braiding them.
over, under, over, under. the patterned motion relaxes you as it continues. over, under, over, under.
you toss the strands of grass aside and opt for the daisies that lay around you. it was probably bad karma to rip flowers out of the ground and your mother would probably be at least a bit peeved if she saw you do this. it didnât matter much to you, you never met demeter and didnât feel indebted to her in any way. you could make as many daisy chains as you wanted, no one could stop you.
it was similar to how eliza, your friend from athena, would make paper stars whenever she got anxious. your daisy chains and her paper stars were just motions.
either way, luke didnât mind your habit. he thought it was cute how your twitching hands could make such a beautiful little thing. the intricate braids laced around white daisies and took shape of whatever you wished. sometimes it became a crown. others, it was a necklace. you tried to make a bracelet once, but it fell apart and you hadnât tried since, instead sticking to what you were more confident in.
speaking of luke, the son of hermes was making his way over to you. âwhatâre you doing up?â
âi could say the same to you.â you said with a smile so soft it rivaled your voice, unnecessarily quiet as to not wake any campers.
perhaps unknowingly following your example, luke lowered his voice as well, despite being far away from any cabins and not being loud to begin with. âyou got me there. i was gonna go to the range to practice the bow, you know iâve been trying to improve?â he added a lilt to the end of his sentence as if he was asking a question.
it took you a second to process what he was saying. âno⌠i didnât know that. why? youâve seemed fine with the bow last i saw you, no?â
âsee!â he put emphasis on that word, as if he had proved you wrong. âi seemed fine, not good. big difference, love.â he looked down at your hands, noticing for the first time what you were fiddling with. âyou wanna come join? iâm sure thereâre plenty of flowers over by the range.â
your smile continued to widen at the goofy expression luke held, clearly proud of himself for finding a way to get you to join him. most times, luke preferred to practice his weaknesses by himself â that was why he was up so early, after all â but he always appreciated when you joined him. he called you his âgood luck charm.â
âof course iâll come, luke.â you popped up off the ground, now no longer as damp as it once was. green stains from the grass painted your shorts, but you ignored them. your hands scurried to snatch up the daisy chain that laid on the ground right below you. the chain was quickly stitched into a crown before you placed it on lukeâs head. it was slightly too big and almost fell in front of his eyes.
he linked arms with you and the both of you continued down the hill, setting course for the range.
â how to get a girlâs attention
luke castellan x fem!daughter of demeter!reader
warnings: near-drowning experienceâŚ
summary: as the daughter of demeter, youâre the first person that everyone turns to when injuries need to be tended too, questions need to be asked, and any type of advice is required, however whatâs going to happen when youâre the one in need?
a/n: this oneâs quite lengthy guys! i really just got derailed like ten times and love adding details and the ending is kind of basic but whatever; donât mind me making up random camper names btw lol đźđź
waking up to the sound of constant bickering was just a normal tuesday morning as your younger half-siblings were already at each otherâs throats about some stupid thing. yesterday it was borrowing boots and the day before it was who had to take the trash out.
you groaned, wishing that you could still sleep in peace and quiet but your cabin clearly suggested otherwise. so you gradually got up and put on your little slippers, approaching the main fighters who continued to argue with each other.
âhey hey hey, whatâs going on now.â you had to physically get between the two children, separating them with your arms.
âhe slipped paint all over my skirt and now itâs ruined!â the young girl cried, holding up her stained skirt to prove it. you took the clothing in your hands and knelt down to face her.
âwhy donât i go to the river later today and try to get the stain out myself. it seems washable to me, what do you think?â
with a slight frown, she nodded her head to comply. you were relieved to say the least before turning to the boy, âhow about you apologize and come with me to the river after breakfast?â
the boy stayed silent with his arms crossed, trying to avoid your insisting stare. but intimidated enough, he looked to the floor and whispered a small âfine, iâm sorryâ with a glare.
you smiled as the situation was deescalated and told the rest of the kids surrounding the pair to hurry and make their beds in order to head to breakfast.
holding hands with the now puffy-faced girl, you tried to tell her about all the fun activities she could do today to forget about the unfortunate morning incident.
before reaching mess hall, the child already had a a bright smile just thinking about the bracelet making and embroidery you promised for the later evening. pleased with your peace-making skills, you sat with the rest of your campers and half-siblings that you were in charge of.
as the eldest sibling and one of the camp counselors, you took on the responsibility of looking after the young ones and caring for almost everyone at camp.
thus, when most of the camp half-blood children had troubles or dilemmas of any sort, they would disregard their own counselors and go straight to you. your kindhearted, yet sociable personality rooted from your mother: demeter.
you were often found laying around in the fruit fields or by the river listening to the water flow through the ground and hit the rocks. like your mother, nature was where you felt at peace, especially with the lack of quiet in your own cabin.
but you still loved your fellow campers and half-siblings, except for one boy who would not leave you alone.
luke castellan.
he liked to push your buttons and see how far he could take you until youâd explode. of course, you always kept your calm until either you just left the conversation or it would be interrupted by a camper in need who was like a knight in shining armor.
it wasnât that you didnât like the guy. you liked everyone at camp, including mr. d for gods sake! but something about luke was different. you occasionally saw him with his campers or his friends, he would joke around but never act like he does with you.
when you least expect it, he sneaks up behind you and gets close enough to whisper something in your ear. it could be just a random comment or sentence started but in an alluring voice as if you were friends or even more.
he knows what heâs doing. the moment he finishes, you flinch and get flustered, cheeks heating up and instantly standing up to avoid making eye contact. as you walk away, luke only watches and smiles to himself.
he knows how much power he holds over you, as with just a few words he can make you nervous.
âokay so once everyoneâs done, weâll first go to the archery range and youâll stay there with counselor clarisse while damien and i go to the river to get that nasty stain out.â you explained and first looked at the boy who begrudgingly agreed to helping you earlier and then winked at the little girl you promised to help.
âcounselor clarisseâŚ!â one of the boys exclaimed.
âoh no sheâs the mean one!â âyeah, sheâs a bully!â your campers all started to agree and mutter remarks about their fear in staying with clarisse.
you couldnât help but chuckle at their scared little faces, âclarisse? oh gods no! clarisse is not scary, she loves you guys and sheâll take good care of you.â
the children stared at you in disbelief while chowing down their eggs and bacon. âwhy canât we just come with you to the river?!â one of the girls begged and began to pout alongside the other ten kids beside her.
you sighed and pursed your lips into a thin line, trying to come up with a compromise but you couldnât.
âplease itâs only for a couple of hours and then iâll be back for the rock wall and some capture the flag!â you persuaded, trying to lighten up the mood.
but the kids still looked dissatisfied, now poking their breakfast around with their utensils in objection.
âwellââ before you could plead another case why clarisse is a perfectly reasonable and responsible counselor and guardian, you were cut off by the one and only.
âaw donât worry guys, you should listen to your counselor. plus iâll be there too so if counselor clarisse gets even just a little too scary, you can come and hang with awesome counselor luke!â a voice announced from behind you.
you nearly choked on your food, startled in the surprise voice cutting you off. but the campers were overjoyed to see their second favorite counselor appear. there were an overwhelming amount of comments from the once so silent children, mostly regarding âluke!â and âyay!â
you whipped your head around to face the boy, standing right behind you with nothing but a smug grin on his face. then he leaned in just as he always does and whispered a quick, âyouâre welcomeâ and turned to leave just as fast as he came.
âcan we please hang out with counselor luke instead of clarisse?!â all the campers plead with their hands put together and lower lip puckered. left with no other choice by that damn castellan again, you inhaled deeply and slightly nodded which was shortly followed by an array of cheers and excitement.
after dropping off all of the campers in the hands of luke, you put a hand on damienâs back and led him to the river. but before leaving, you had to make sure luke would actually clock in as a responsible counselor.
âso i can count on you to keep them safe for the next couple of hours?â
âwow you sound like you doubt me!â luke said and took a step back with his hands up in fake surrender.
âenough with the games, castellan. are you going to make sure they donât kill each other and stay unharmed until i return?â you asked again, ignoring his previous comment.
luke tried to hold back his smile after you called him by his last name. most of the time, his sparring partners or other counselors would use his last name rather his first. however, when the way you let the ânâ slightly my drag after saying it sent chills throughout his entire body.
to hide his delight, he lightly scoffed and crossed his arms at your hesitation. âi assure you that i will protect them with my life. i mean i am the best swordsman at camp,â he added as the corners of his lips just couldnât help themselves to lift a little.
you rolled your eyes at his self-confidence and how he kept complimenting himself. luke only did it to impress you though, something that hasnât been very successful.
âokay well alissa has a nut allergy, georgie has a bee allergy, and please keep thomas and will away from the poison ivy. i do not want to spend another summer knee deep in tomato juice.â
luke could only watch and admire as you kept expressing your deep concern for all the kids. he loved how much you cared. but a few more seconds and you would be driving yourself crazy over all the possibilities of something going wrong.
thatâs when luke stepped in and softly grabbed your right arm.
âhey, itâs fine. go do whatever you have to do and iâll come running down to the river if anything goes wrong but i doubt it, iâm pretty responsible yâknow.â he reassured and stared straight into your eyes, indicating his sincerity. his smile wasnât conceited or to drive his ego but rather held a tender emotion.
you looked up into his hazel eyes and suddenly the worries stopped and your nerves were calmed, other than the ones beginning to stir in your stomach. but this was far from the regard about the kids.
this feeling was something else. something new.
âare we going to go already?â the young boy you almost forgot about, whined and rugged on your orange camp t-shirt.
snapping out of your trance and back to reality you answered, âo-oh yeah, i think counselor lukeâs got it from here.â
with that you turned away from luke and immediately headed for the river alongside damien but the paint-stained skirt was farthest from your mind now. you tried to shake the new feelings and thoughts out of your body and replace them with your past ones of the kids.
until, âis that guy your boyfriend?â
you quickly looked down to the boy asking the question, with such seriousness in his eyes.
âcounselor luke? gods no! i wouldnât even call him a friend!â you answered swiftly, picking up your pace and hurrying damien in front of you.
âgeezâŚi was just asking!â
as soon as you two got to the river, settling on a few rocks by the edge, you started rubbing the blue-stained skirt with the clear water. damien sat next to you, fiddling his thumbs and staring at the waterâs constant movement.
âso are you going to tell me why you did this or not?â you began, keeping your eyes on the skirt.
âi just wanted to.â
âdamien.â you urged and this time, you stared directly at him with your eyebrows raised.
he sighed in defeat and gave up on lying to you.
âokayâŚwell i just didnât know how else to get claraâs attention,â the boy admitted and refused to look at you.
his response warned your heart and prompted your to smile to yourself.
âso you did this, just to get claraâs attention?â
you held up the now drenched skirt and demanded damien to look at you. for a moment, he did and nodded quickly before instantly going back to staring at the rock he was sitting on.
you stifled your laughter at how adorable the young boy you were with was being.
âdamienâŚthere are a lot of different and more efficient ways to get claraâs attention. may a suggest one that doesnât destroy her belongings and ends up with her being angry?â you insisted and squeezed the excess water out of the skirt.
he looked up and nodded again but this time he continued.
âwhat should i do?â
âwhy donât you make her a bracelet when we go back and sincerely apologize.â you suggested while laying out the wet skirt on the rock to dry.
he smiled at your suggestion as you went to sit closer by him. before speaking again, he pulled out a small daisy from his pant pocket and presented it to you.
your eyes focused on the blooming flower that lost a few of its petals due to being stuck in the boyâs pocket for a while now. but the remaining petals still standing were enough to maintain the flowerâs beauty.
âwhen did you become such a gentlemen?â you nudged his shoulder and took the flower from his hands.
âoh, iâve been giving him some lessons.â
alarmed, you turned to see the familiar face that had been surprising you all day.
âwhat are you doing here?! how about the kidsâwhoâs watching them?!â you immediately stood up and marched towards the too calm figure standing amongst the trees. but he caught you with both arms, preventing you with ease.
âwoah woah, take a breather, theyâre with clarisse.â he said and stopped you before you ran back to the mess hall.
reading your expression, luke could tell you were not convinced nor pleased so he had to fix his answer.
ââand annabeth and chris.â
with that you stopped fighting against his grasp and stepped back, finally exhaling.
âyou havenât answered my first question.â
âoh! i just uh wanted to um come and tell you that theyâre asking for damien back at camp. they were practically begging me to come over here and get him!â
you narrowed your eyes after he finished, easily indicating the lie.
âokayâŚyou can go damien but remember what i said,â you smiled and patted his shoulder before sending him off back to camp.
the young boy ran off without a care and ready to make that bracelet with a formal apology. luke stood there, quite surprised that his lie that chris helped him think of in fact worked.
âsoooo do you need help with whatever that is?â luke pointed at the skirt laid out on the rock.
âno.â you shortly responded and walked back to your rock but luke followed like a lost puppy.
âare you sure? i mean as head counselor for cabin 11, i can cook up a mean batch of laundry,â he insisted and trailed behind you.
unbeknownst to him, you rolled your eyes and cringed at his wording.
âyour words donât even make sense.â
caught in a lie, luke decided actions spoke louder than words and walked past you to the skirt. you furrowed your eyebrows in confusion as he picked it up and crouched down near the water before dunking it back into the water.
shocked and a little annoyed, you hurriedly ran to him.
âwhat the hell are you doing?! i just washed that! iâm waiting for it to dry dumbass!â
âoh she curses!â he exclaimed, finally getting a real response from you.
you reached for it until luke raised it a little higher, just out of your reach. using his height as an advantage, he held out the clothing as far as he could and to the river.
fed up and exhausted, you went on your tippy-toes and lunged for the skirt. swiftly, luke pulled it close to his body just as you reached leading you to accidentally lean too far.
with a splash, you fell straight into the freezing cold water, unknown to how deep the river was. lukeâs eyes widened, he thought you falling in would be funny but once you hadnât resurfaced within a few seconds he became worried.
without a second thought, he dropped the skirt, pulled off his camp shirt, and dove into the biting waves. as soon as he saw your bright orange t-shirt in contrast to the clear water, he put his arm around your waist and swim towards the surface.
pulling you out to the rocks and laying your body on the ground, he waited for you to gain consciousness. luckily, you started to gasp for air and spit out gulps of water as you sat up.
luke sighed in relief at once. you wiped your face of water and blinked repeatedly until your sight returned to normal. then your eyes were fixated on something else, rather someone. his bare chest stood directly in front of your face, it wasnât like you were trying to stare!
âiâm sorry, y/n. Iâm so sorry, i didnât mean to do that and iâm really sorry.â luke recited.
âi-itâs okay.â you stuttered, the cold water chilling your body.
âhere take off the wet one and take mine.â
luke grabbed his discarded camp shirt and handed it to you. if you werenât on the verge of frostbite you wouldâve refused, but without another word you agreed and luke turned to face the trees as you pulled the wet shirt over your head and put on lukeâs.
âthanks. for saving me and the shirt.â
luke turned back to face you and smiled, âi mean i was the one to make you fall into the water in the first place, itâs the least i can do.â
âarenât you cold?â you signaled to his bare chest.
âno, iâm okay donât worry. but your jeans are still wet so letâs head back to camp.â he reassured and helped you get up.
you nodded and let him take the lead. with your wet shirt and skirt in one hand and the other grabbing onto lukeâs arm, you two finally made it back to camp. before dropping you off at your cabin, you had to ask.
âwhy did you come to the river anyway?â
luke awkwardly put his hand on the back of his neck and looked away.
âoh. i just uh wanted to spend time with you.â he admitted, ultimately facing you.
you stopped attending to your dripping pants and looked up at him. he had a genuine smile, now with both hands shoved into his pockets.
how was it that you had never noticed the golden flecks in his deep brown eyes? or the way the orange hues of the sunset highlighted the amber shade his eyes would turn?
âyâknow, there are a lot of other ways to get my attention in the first place, that doesnât involve us falling into freezing cold water.â
luke laughed at your comment which eased the awkward air.
âi had this almost exact same conversation with a little boy of about seven years, and gave him some valuable advice.â
âwhat was the advice..?â he carefully asked.
âto make her a bracelet and apologize, one ofâŚyouâve already done profusely.â you raised your eyebrow to imply his previous attempt in apologizing nonstop.
âah, a bracelet you say, okay got it,â luke said and nodded his head.
with that, he bid you a good day and you asked to meet him later at the campfire to return his shirt.
âalright you two sit there, i donât want to see anymore fighting over the dinosaurs, you can sit here with him, and you three over thereââ guiding the campers for the campfire that was just about to begin, you made your way to an empty bench.
smiling to yourself, you watched as your campers finally calmed down and enjoyed the music, giving up on fighting and arguing with one another. someone jumped over the bench and leaned back to sit right next to you, and you had a feeling who it may be.
âluke?â
âyes maâam.â he replied with a tilt towards you and two fingers from his head.
the campfire lit up his face and highlighted his sharp features that you had somehow missed until this moment. his charming smile urging his dimples alongside his dark curls freshly washed with a new scented shampoo was enough to make you realize you were hooked. damn.
âoh i have a little something for you, give me your arm and close your eyes,â he spoke up and put his hand in his pocket.
raised eyebrow, you reluctantly closed your eyes and gave him your right arm. suddenly in fear of some bug or scary animal on your hand, you slowly retracted it back to yourself until he gently got a hold of it.
he pulled your arm towards him slightly and slipped something on around your wrist. waiting for his approval, you sat questioning what the mystery item could be.
âokay, open.â luke did a little âta-daâ motion once you flickered your eyes open, adjusting to the dark yet orangish lit surrounding.
you looked down at the intricate, handsome bracelet that appeared on your wrist. it was similar to the camp necklaces but the beads were translucent with flowers imbedded into them. except for one bead that was painted a heavenly green, your favorite color.
astonished and at a loss for words, you observed the bracelet, moving around the small beads on the string.
âiâm sorry.â
snapping out of your trance, you instantly stared up at luke after his words in confusion.
âwhat?â
âyou said earlier, âthere are a lot of other ways to spend time with you that donât involve us falling into freezing cold water, for starters make a bracelet and apologize.ââ he repeated your words from back by your cabin. he remembered.
âso you made me a bracelet and apologize just like i said?â double-checking, you glanced once at the bracelet and back to the dashing boy who looked as if he had stars in his eyes, waiting for your reaction.
ânot only for you, i also helped damien make one for that girl heâs got a crush on,â he continued and looked over to the little boy doing the exact same hold-out-your-arm-and-close-your-eyes trick on the girl sobbing about her stained skirt earlier.
she opened her eyes to a freshly washed skirt and matching bracelet, along with a smiling boy who was apologizing and waiting for her reaction. she leapt into his arms with a bunch of âthank yous.â the boy then briefly peered at luke who proceeded to wink and give an approving nod.
happily surprised, you sat gaping at the boy you thought was so infuriating just a couple of hours before. luke knew exactly what he was doing. he knew how much you cared for the campers and your half-siblings, how you would always chose their safety and happiness at the expense of your very own.
it was one of the traits he admired the most about you. even when in a bad mood or not feeling your best, you would put on a brave face and make sure to put their needs in front of you own.
he witnessed it first-hand last week when your campers wanted to go rock climbing but there were dozens of poison ivy already there. thus, to not disappoint the kids, you stayed up all night removing the dangerous plant and relocating them to another area deep in the forest for them to grow.
even with your plant manipulation abilities, with the large amount of the poisonous plant, it took you quite a while. afterwards, you went as far to replace them with lovely daisies you summoned from the gardens in front of your cabin.
during the move from the rock climbing course to the forest, luke had spotted you while some late-night sword practicing because he couldnât sleep due to apollo cabin next door.
he debated approaching you and settled on only admiring you from afar after you almost finished anyway. he didnât want to disturb you or aggravate you further than you already were. but leaving you here in the forest during midnight would be wrong.
what if a monster were to come? how were you to defend yourself if you were distracted! therefore, it was just common sense that luke had to keep watch, i mean he even had his sword with him after all.
but once the sun peeped from the tall mountains, he came to a realization that he had just sat and watched you for more than a couple hours. so in order to not get caught, he ran off back to his cabin before anyone would wake up.
only a little after luke headed to bed, morning arrived and you were the first one to break the happy news to your campers that today would be the day for rock climbing. greatly proud and feeling accomplished, you even invited other cabins to join and have a spin at it. including lukeâs.
now he was the one to show you how much he cared for the campers as well, focusing on a feature you had great respects for. your shocked expression softened and now leapt into his arms.
âthank you, castellan. really.â
blood rushed to his cheeks and he tried to hide his excitement, but you felt his genuine smile on your shoulder. before pulling away, he stopped by your ear and whispered.
âdo i have permission to kiss you, counselor?â
you couldâve giggled at his words and how close his lips were to your ear. without wasting another breath, you pulled his face closer to you and put your lips on his.
feeling the warmth of his breath, you could taste the sweet taste of strawberries he mustâve eaten earlier. only centimeters away, your bodies were attracted to each other almost pressing. the kiss wasnât long but not short either, somewhat leaving a lasting impression on the other.
yet again you felt a small grin of his lips during the kiss, making you pull away for air. but your eyes were still glued to his, moments away from repeating the act but you both realized where you were and how irresponsible it would look as counselors. so instead he grabbed your hand, now giving you the absolute cutest puppy dog eyes before asking.
âdo i have your attention now?â
Poison Ivy
Luke Castellan x Fem!Daughter of Persephone Reader
Description: You've been best friends with Luke Castellan since you were 14 years old. Now you teeter on the edge of something more, but your jealousy causes you to question everything.
Youâre a child of Persephone, one of the far and few in between. Your mother had claimed you an entire year after youâd arrived at camp. Chiron had claimed it was to protect you from Hades' wrath, but youâd had a sickly feeling it was more than that. Children of Persephone are all springtime and warmth, and perhaps you are in the light of day but in the cover of the night, there is something else that claws at you. You are more winter than spring.
Your dad says its normal to feel disconnected from your mother at this age, but you donât just feel disconnected you feel abandonded.
Youâd never met your mother but you're so so angry with her.
Being the daughter of the goddess of spring came with expectations. You are loyal and kind, with a bit of a wild side. Your powers had manifested as chlorokinesis, you're particularly fond of plants, much like the children of Demeter, but you've got a hardness they don't have, a certain darkness only a child of the underworld could understand. Youâd learned that on your quest, where youâd even able to speak and command hellhounds.
There was more to you than meets the eye.
For instance, your infamous knack for growing poison ivy around those who piss you of. It had earned you a loving nickname from LukeâŚ
âPoisonâ heâd called you after a particularly nasty sprouting during a game of capture the flag when you were just 14 years old. It had been Lukeâs first game at camp, some Ares boys were terrorizing him up in the trees, when youâd seen it you felt bad for him. Everyone knew the story of how Luke and Annabeth had arrived at camp with Grover and what had been sacraficed to get there or rather who. Youâd come to his rescue, sprouting poison Ivy from nothing wrapping it around their legs and taking them out of the game in one fail swoop with your daggers.
They glared at you for weeks.
It had started a long-lasting friendship between you and Luke. You two were close, and you helped him out in the Hermes cabin a lot. You trained together, ate together, really you did everything together. Luke understands the burning anger that sits beneath the surface of your skin. He knows the warmth and brightness you radiate during the days, but he also knows the bitter darkness that hides within you.
Luke sees you under your mask and still he stays.
Maybe that's why youâd fallen so hard for him.
It was hard not to fall for Luke. Heâs all tall, dark and handsome. Heâs the best swordsman this camp has seen in 300 years, he radiates confidence and commands respect. But even without all of that everyone loves Luke. It's hard not to, really. Heâs kind and brave. Itâs no wonder the Aphrodite girls are so enamored with him, really most girls are.
Sometimes youâd catch him looking at you with this funny soft look in his eyes. His touch would linger longer than necessary when helping you during archery practice, and heâd laugh a little too loudly at your jokes, and give you that rare goofy grin when he finds you in a room full of people.
Itâs in those moment youâd wonder if he feels the same way. When his words are just for you, when he drags you by your hand to the dock and lays down beside you to look at the starts. When he kisses you cheek before the both of you return to the cabin, when he peeks over the side of your bunk and whispers the sweetest goodnight.
But then there are times you think you're delusional.
Like tonight for instance.
You're sitting at the post capture the flag bonfire with a few of your friends. Selina from Aphrodite, Clarisse from Ares, Katie, from the Demeter cabin, and Juliette from Athena. The Apollo kids are singing and you're in a particularly good mood from winning. But then you look across the fire and Luke has a pretty Aphrodite girl dotting on him, Haley, you think her name is. Sheâs whispering in his ear, perfectly painted nails wrapped around his forearm.
She's the type of girl Luke deserves.
Juliette's finger snaps in front of your face drawing you away from your pity party. You sit on the bottom step of the bleachers with a leg on either side. Facing you is Juliette, up a step to your right sits Selina, Katie, and Clarisse.
âHello earth to Y/N, anyone in there??â Clarisse asks, your eyes snap to her and bounce between the others, they all look ammused.
âSorry,â you mumble cheeks heating in embarsement.
They all look over your head where youâd been staring, There's a knowing look that is shared between them before they looking back at you with a mix of exasperation, ammusment, and pity.
You don't know which one is worse.
âCâmon you don't think Lukeâs really into that chick do you?â Katie asks you.
âThat chicks name is Haley,â Silena reminds, before reaching out and squeezing you hand, âand Katieâs right everyone knows Lukeâs crazy for you, I don't know why she's even bothering.â
Clarisse scoffs and cracks her knuckles, âI can kick both their asses if you want.â
This draws a laugh from you.
âHey, there she is!â Juliette exclaims, pinching your cheek, you swat her hands away and roll your eyes, the pity is leaving your body but you're still left with the bitter taste of jealousy.
âWeâre just friends,â is what you settle with, earning an eye roll from all four of your friends.
âWe are!â you insist, running a hand through your hair, âHe can flirt with whoever he wants.â
âY/N, do you think weâre dumb?â Clarisse asks.
âWhat? No of course I donâtââ
âWell then you know you canât lie to us,â Katie says, she's much kinder than Clarisse who stares at you expectantly. A classic daughter of Demeter, she reaches for your hand and squeezes. You close your eyes for a second and sigh before looking back over at Luke. The Aphrodite girl is sitting closer to him now, he's nodding along to something she's said. You look away quickly.
âKatieâs right, and as a daughter of Aphrodite I can tell you without a doubt Castellan is just as crazy for you as you are him,â Silenaâs so sure of herself, you wish you could feel that confident, you wish you knew how he felt.
âYeah well it sure doesn't seem that way,â you gesture towards where theyâre sitting. Across from you Juliette hums.
âMaybe heâs confused,â she says
âOr maybe Haley just doesn't know how to take a hintâ Clarisse grumbles. You sigh and swing your leg over the bleachers before standing up.
âWhere are you going?â Katie asks, brow furrowed.
âI just need some air,â you say.
âY/N weâre literally outside,â Clarisse quips, you glare at her.
âFigurative air,â you say, gesturing wildly around you, away from all of this.â
You're much too aware of how pathetic this all is, you pining in a corner with your friends and Luke across the way with a pretty girl who deserves him. You're not some scorned lover, you're just a sad teenage girl.
âDo you want me to come?â Juliette asks you. She's such a good friend, fiercely loyal, they all are really, and you're incredibly thankful for them.
You wave her off anyway, âIâll be fine, Iâll catch up with you guys later.â
Your friends say their goodbyes, not before reminding you for the thousandth time about the small party in the Aphrodite cabin later that evening.
If you'd been paying attention you'd have noticed Lukeâs boredom, youâd have noticed his eye that always seemed to follow you.
Itâs darker as you get further away from the bonfire, you don't mind, the few lanterns lighting the path to the lake give you enough light that you can at least see where you're going. When you arrive at the lake, you're thankful no one else has had the same idea. You can't even count the number of times you've snuck away with Luke only to find numerous couples making out.
Tonight there's no one, maybe because it had been a particularly rough game of capture the flag, or maybe because the usual suspects (aka Chris and Clarisse) are still at the bonfire.
You make your way toward the end of the dock before sitting down, feet dangling off the edge you lean back on your hands and lift your head back to look at the stars. Around you the only sound is nature, and very far off in the distance, you can hear the faintest sound of the Apollo kids singing. Their voices echo and combine with the sounds of the trees.
It would be peaceful if you weren't so miserable.
âThere you are.â
You open your eyes and turn your head over the shoulder. Lukeâs approaching you with that goofy grin on his face and a sweatshirt in his hands. He pops down next to you on the dock and hands you the sweater.
âI figured youâd get cold, you didn't have a jacket at the bonfire,â he explains when you give him a confused smile.
âOh,â you say meekly, pulling it over your head, it's much too big for you and it smells like Luke and kind of makes you want to cry. Still, you tell him thank you. His smile drops a little when you don't say anything else.
âYou wanna tell me what's wrong Poison?â he asked gently, nudging your shoulder with his. You pick at the sleeves of his sweater, eyebrows furrowed, but hearing the concern in his voice you manage a small smile.
âNothingâs wrong, I'm just tired,â you excuse. You meet his eyes and you can tell he doesn't believe you.
âY/Nââ
âSeriously, I'm good, thank you for checking on me, and thank you for your jacket but you should go back I'm sure Haley is wondering where you are and I'm really okay,â you promise. Heâs got the goofy grin on his face again and he lets out a breathy laugh.
âAre you laughing at me?â you asked annoyed. Heâs still smiling like he knows something you don't, he's enjoying this.
âWhat?â
âYou're jealous,â you go wide-eyed eyes at his declaration, but you recover quickly with a scoff.
"I am not jealous," you deny, your voice gives you away when it quivers on the last syllable of your sentence. Lukeâs grin only grows.
"Yeah okay Poison," he throws an arm over your shoulder, "whatever you say."
Iâm going to push him into the lake, you think to yourself.Â
You donât, instead, you settle for pushing his arm off of your shoulder.
"Whatever, Iâm outta here," you say before promptly standing up and storming up the dock. You've got tears in your eyes you're thankful he didn't see. You can hear him laughing and calling for you but you don't turn around. You know he's not doing it to be mean, Luke's got a thing for teasing you, and you know he thinks that's what this is.
It doesn't make the sting of it any less.
Luke's got long legs, and you can hear him scrambling after you calling your name. You ignore him up the dock and the sand before he stops you stepping in your path.
"C'mon Poison I know I'm hard to resiâ" he stops when he sees the tears in your eyes and you turn your face away from him. His brows furrow in concern when he realizes you donât think it's funny. He reaches for you again but you take a step back and cross your arms over your chest.Â
"Hey, hey, hey, what's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong"
"You're crying"
"So?"
He looks at you like you've sprouted 8 heads.
 "What do you mean so??" You pinch the bridge of your nose, you've seriously had enough of him playing dumb. "Can you just drop it please?" you beg, shifting on your feet and wiping furiously at your eyes before any tears can actually fall from your waterline.Â
But he's Luke and your Y/N and you should know by now he's not gonna drop it.
"Wait," he hums taking a step closer to you and prying your crossed arms away from the safety of your body, he holds both of your hands with his own and presses them to his chest, you've got nowhere to hide. Finally, he asks, "Were you actually jealous?"
His tone is softer this time, it holds no teasing just a gentleness you can't quite describe. You don't know if itâs pity or fondness, you're not sure which answer scares you more. You still canât look him in the eyes.
"Noâ"
"Y/N, c'mon don't lie to me."
You huff in response. He steps even closer to you.Â
"Last week Lee Fletcher was helping you at archery practice," he says finally, you look at him now, his grin is gone but the soft smile heâs giving you, makes you feel like heâs going to let you down easy. Heâs going to use Lee as a buffer, say it's clear there's something there when it's nothing. You feel for Lee the kind of platonic love you wish you felt for Luke.Â
What you feel for Luke is world-changing and gut-wrenching.
"Okay,â is all you can say, you try to step away again but Luke just grips your hands a little tighter.
âJust let me finish,â he pleads, you nod your head and avoid direct eye contact with him, instead you focus on his dark hair, the dark curls that shine under the moonlight. If he notices you arenât looking him in the eye, heâs at least nice enough not to say anything about it.Â
"He said something to you, I wasn't close enough to hear what it was but it had you cracking up and laughing in the best way," Luke takes his thumb and stokes the corner of your mouth, "you get a little dimple right here when you laugh did you know that?"
You didn't, you also didn't even know he had been there that day. You don't even remember what Lee said that had made you laugh, something about your aim.
"What's your point?" you mumble, his touch on your face is searing and his other hand has moved to your waist, you can feel the burn of his skin through your (his) jacket. You finally cave and meet his eyes, heâs looking at you with such softness you think you might melt on the spit. You're not stupid either, you know what this is. But you need to hear him say it, or you might actually die.
"I was jealous," he shrugs, like it's no big deal, thumb tracing up your check to tuck a stray hair behind your ear before dragging it down to cup your face. "I didn't have any reason to be but I was.âÂ
Then with that goofy grin he says, âKinda sounds like someone else I know."
Youâre smiling at him now, you both know this is teetering far too close to the edge to come back from now. In fact, even without him saying it, without kissing him, you donât think you could ever come back from this.
"Why?" you ask him, hands coming to rest at the nape of his neck, you play with the strings of his camp necklace to distract yourself from the lessening distance between the two of you. Heâs dipping his head closer to you, so close that if he speaks your lips will touch. You want him to kiss you in a way youâve never wanted anything before.
"You know why." And then he's kissing you. His arm around your waist tightens instinctively, and he presses his lips to yours hungrily, like a starved man who's just arrived at a feast. Your hands drop his necklace and weave through the shorter hair at the nape of his neck, something akin to a sigh of relief floods through both of you. His hand is in your hair now, and he tasted of marshmallows and spearmint, something so distinctly Luke. Itâs incredibly intoxicating you donât want to pull away. And you donât until you absolutely have to in order to catch your breath, Luke chases after your lips with his own. Kissing them softly once, and then twice, before pulling back and looking at you with a smile on his face. This time you return it, a little laugh escapes your lips before it grows louder.
âAlright now whoâs laughing at who?â he grumbles, still smiling despite his tone, his thumb strokes your dimple, and it allows you to compose youself.Â
âIâm sorry,â you say reaching up to kiss him softly again. Heâs smiling still, so you know you havenât really offended him. âI just kinda feel like an idiot now,â you admit.Â
âWell you are one,â he tells you cheekily, squezzing your sides with both hands in the way he knows you both adore and detest, you squeal and stumble into him, gripping onto his biceps in attempts to get him to stop. âYouâre absolutely the dumbest person alive if you think thereâs any world that I would wanna do this with anyone else.â
âReally?â you ask.
âReally,â he confirms. You reach up and kiss him again, a little more searing than sweet. Both of Lukeâs hands are back in your hair and heâs kissing you back just as fervently, you feel his tongue slip in your mouth, and you swear youâve died and gone to heaven. Itâs Luke who pulls away this time, gasping for air.Â
âI think I might be in love with you,â he admits.
âYeah, I think I might be in love with you too.â
Suddenly you both hear footsteps approaching quick and heavy, Clarisse stops in front of you both and takes in your dishelved appearance, before rolling her eyes and yelling.
âGuys I found them! You all owe me $20!â she calls out to what you assume to be your group of friends.
âClarisse what the hell?â you mutter stepping away from Luke reluctantly. Chris comes barelling out of the forest, tripping over shrubbery. Luke pouts at the loss of contact
âThey were making out?â he pouts to Clarisse who gestures towards you both as if to say well just look at them! then Chris turns to you and Luke, âYou guys couldnât have waited like one more day?â
You laugh as Luke whacks him upside the head. The four of you begin making your way towards the rest of your friends and the Aphrodite cabin where the party (which is so not a party) is. Your girlfriends squeal and Lukeâs friends cringe. Luke throws his arm around your shoulder, "All good Poison?" he ask.
"I'm good, how are you?" he laughs and kisses your head.
"Never better."
You look up at him fondly and kiss the bottom of his scar as the two of you enter the cabin with the rest of your friends.
Across the room, Haley pouts with her siblings, but you donât notice. Youâre too enamored with Luke, the boy youâve loved for as long as you can remember. The boy who loves you back.
PJO ROMAN DEMIGOD HEADCANONS:đž CERES: GODDESS OF AGRICULTURE, FERTILITY, GRAINS, THE HARVEST, MOTHERHOOD, THE EARTH AND CULTIVATED CROPS đ
Authorâs Note: Don't mess with Mother Nature- ROMAN DEMIGODS H/CS MASTERLIST LINKS: [TUMBLR] // [AO3]
So unlike the children of Demeter or Demeter in general, Ceres is regarded a bit more seriously in terms of Roman integrity. While Demeter is important and respected because she literally is connected with nature, crops, and agriculture yâknow⌠important for living, Ceres is more important in terms because the Romans believed that the laws and rites of Ceres protected all activities of agriculture. And because agriculture is done by the common people, Ceresâ a patron and protector of plebian (common) laws and rights , the assembly of the common people of the ancient Roman republic, and Tribunes; amongst other serious rites. This also includes Funerals because with agriculture, she also taught them how fix boundaries to ascertain their possessions; thus Ceres also maintains the boundaries of the living and the dead, and was essential at funerals.
So you can imagine being a child and legacy of Ceres has a stronger perception in the Roman eyes; which brings more pressure into being put into certain roles. Aside from being and maintaining the agriculture that feeds the inhabitants of Camp Jupiter and New Rome, you might be also inclined to be bakers and being literal bread winners. Thereâs also a strong competition to participate and have a seat in the Senate, since Ceres is a patron of the law. With the lack of Plutoâs children, the duties of Funeral rites fell onto the offspring of Ceres, and has been managed by them as well. Thereâs also duties of marriages and weddings as Ceres was honoured in Roman marriages, so thereâs a few in the wedding industry. Surprising, the network of Ceresâ scions is very useful whenever thereâs a wedding, funeral, or a harvest feast considering thereâs a good handful of Ceresâ Scions working in those areas as well as catering.
In terms of powers, in exchange of range, children of Ceres are more technical. While the powers of nature and plants are universal among the children of Ceres, itâs less powerful in general. Each child of Ceres have their own secondary speciality that falls underneath: marriage (unity, harmony, strength, support) or death (ghosts, summoning the dead).
While not as powerful as Hera, Ceres demigods who fall underneath marriage, are highly regarded in their role on the fields, providing necessary cohesion in battle formations and format. As for those who fall under death and the underworld, while not as powerful as children of Hades, they are at least able to talk and employ the help of a shade, or basically minor necromancy. If a child of Ceresâ power over plants and nature is more powerful, then they donât have access to any of the secondary elements.Â
Generally, if a child of Ceres has access to the secondary element, their legacies will inherit it but will rarely be able to use the others. Often carrying on their family business or craft.Â
Another neglectful fam concept because why not..
Reader being some minor god, deemed mostly unimportant by the rest of their pantheon. They're more of a nuisance really, always following everyone around like a shadow.
Nothing can ever deter them for long, even if they go off to sulk after being yelled at, they're right back to it after a few moons have passed. So bothersome...
Since the dawn of time, you and Luke Castellan have been best friends. Attached at the hip since birth, the two of you have always been close. He was the one who helped you conquer your most intimidating challenges, whether that be the nervousness due to the first day of school or a Minotaur vigorously hunting you down.
And you assisted him, too. On those sleepless nights due to haunting nightmares, you lay beside him, comforting him through every scared shiver. It had always been Luke and Y/N, two peas in a pod, destined to spend eternity together.
Now, you both reside in Camp Half-Blood, eagerly awaiting your next adventure. You loved your time at the summer camp, whether it was tending to the young children or paddle boarding on the smooth and crystal blue lake that glimmered as sunlight passed through. It was thrilling to live such a beautiful life with the people you loved most.
It all started when you waltzed into the infirmary at fourteen, hurt and confused, with Luke and Annabeth by your side. The journey to get here was long and painful, losing one of your best friends, Thalia, in the process. Your head throbbed as Chiron explained the basis of everything, since this whole Greek God situation could be hard to process.
Poseidon, the God of the Sea, claimed you with ease the moment he saw you lingering by the lake all day. With Hermes, it took him a lot longer to accept Luke. However, you cheered him up when no one else could, lighting up his whole world, and no matter how bummed he was about his absent father, your illuminating smile shifted his mood instantly.
Youâve been a year-rounder since then; the world is too dangerous for you to venture off. Every once in a blue moon, however, you wish that just for one year, the monsters would stop prowling and you could explore the cities that tourists swarmed on a regular basis. Other times, you were happy to live in the warm solace you referred to as camp. The companions made inside the safe haven were incomparable to all the mysteries that roamed outside.
Around a year ago, a small blond boy arrived, his cluelessness mirroring yours when you first stumbled in. As you gave him the standard tour, something seemed to be off. The stories he shared of devious monsters attacking reminded you of your childhood, and a feeling of suspicion and concern arose.
Your wariness was only confirmed when the golden trident floated above Percyâs head. Sure, you were excited to have a younger brother, but you knew the dangers the life of a forbidden child contained. So, you made it your honorary job to protect him no matter the circumstance. You taught him how to surf and how to use his powers for the greater good. And so a magnificent connection was formed, with you and him bonding like full siblings. He loved hearing all of the gossip between the older campers, and you loved when he updated you on how his friends were doing. Not to mention the chaotic board game nights you and he shared with Annabeth and Luke. There were almost no hidden secrets, for you told each other everything. Which is why you felt horrible about the massive personal detail you left out of your weekly yapping session.
You and Luke had been dating for three months. You had liked each other for a while, but eventually the overly flirty comments and long stares got the best of him, and he confessed . One breezy night, he asked you to meet him on the waterfront before bed. You obliged, stepping out into the chilly weather to find hundreds of blooming flowers (courtesy of the Demeter kids) arranged neatly in a heart. It was cheesy, but it was the exact type of movie love you were looking for.
That chilly, moonlit evening, you decided it was best to keep your relationship hidden from Percy and, for that matter, most of the camp. Close friends, such as Clarisse and Chris, knew, but that was only because you went on frequent double dates with the pair. But that doesnât mean others didnât bat an eye at your overly friendly relationship. You had almost been caught multiple times, despite Luke being the son of Hermes, who was known for his sly nature.Â
The first time it happened was entirely Luke's fault. You and him had just finished archery training and were walking to lunch, where the rest of camp resided. As soon as you approached the bustling picnic tables, you were dragged off by the Aphrodite kids, who wanted your help with some fashion emergencies. That left Luke with Chris and Percy, along with some other campers from Hermes cabin. -
âHow was archery?â Asked an unclaimed kid, who Luke had little interaction with. They had small talk every once in a while, but not enough for him to know any personal details about his life.
âIt was fine. You know, my girlfrie-â
Luke was lucky looks couldnât kill, because with the way Percy and Chris were staring at him, he would have been six feet under already. He tried his best to salvage the situation, continuing on as if nothing had happened.
âMy friend hit three bullseyes in a row. It was really impressive.â He finished, staring down as he pushed around his mushy broccoli with a flimsy spork, hoping to avoid the glares of his, let's face it, practically brother-in-law. Lucky for him, Percy shrugged it off, and the topic was quickly changed.Â
-
The second time, however, was most certainly your mistake.
-
The dull light from the moon provided little protection from the consuming jet black sky. You and Luke had to sneak out after hours often, which was one of the major downsides to a private relationship.
âNo!â You playfully shouted, trying to juke him out as you ran through the rocky sand of the shoreline. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), your boyfriend was the most athletic kid on camp. He easily caught you before throwing you over his shoulder and carrying you to the navy blue lake.Â
You gently punched his back through strained laughter, gasping for oxygen. But as he attempted to step into the cold winter waters, you used your powers to manipulate the sea so it avoided his path. And with one quick swoop of your hand, he was drenched with the cooling solution, and you remained dry.Â
He set you down, aggressively shaking the water from his head. âI forgot you were like the princess of the sea.â He said. Your harmonious giggles caused him to grin from ear to ear.Â
âYeah, maybe not the best choice on your end. Câmon, Percy probably has a shirt for you.â You replied, interlocking your fingers and skipping back to your cabin.Â
You sneakily creaked the door open, hand over your mouth to try and hush the laughs that spilled out. Percy was sound asleep, snoring softly as you made your way to his dresser, rummaging through the array of neon orange shirts.
âHere. Mr. D gave him the wrong size by accident a while ago.â You whispered toward him before dragging him back out with the fabric still in hand. Once outside, he slid his soaking shirt off, carefully placing it next to your clothes that hung on the drying line. After giving him the t-shirt, you kissed him goodnight and headed back to get some much-needed sleep.
The next day, Percy awoke you with violent shakes, causing you to twist and groan with confusion.
âGet up. Itâs like eight already. Donât you have counselor activities to tend to too?â He said.
You shot up in a panic, staring down at the clock that read 8:03 a.m., almost 20 minutes after your morning duties. With an exasperated sigh, you slipped out of bed and rushed to grab a clean t-shirt from outside.Â
Still dazed, you grabbed a familiar shirt off the clothing line and rushed back inside, quickly changing in hopes of escaping Chironâs anger for your unpunctuality.Â
While you happened to make it to breakfast on time, you failed to notice how unusually long the shirt was or how the tag on the back had the initials âL.C.â loosely scribbled on them. However, everyone else noticed your strange outfit.Â
âWhose shirt is that? Why is it so big?â Percy was immediately questioned as you sat down with your food tray in hand.
âWhat do you mean?" You asked, glancing back down at your lengthy attire, before realizing your mistake. âOh! I spilled something on my only clean shirt, so I borrowed that old one from you. Sorry.â You salvaged, and others seem to believe you.Â
You made eye contact with Luke from across the table, growing flustered instantly due to the anxiety-inducing incident.
-
The third and final time might have been your fault, too. But by then, the two of you were fed up of keeping it secret.
-
âAwe, look at the little lovebirds!âÂ
Clarisse voiced as she shakily pointed a digital camera towards Luke and you, who were engaged in your own conversation.
Gorgeous flowers blossomed around the couple, ranging in various colors and sizes. Laughs rang through the air as Chris, Clarisse, Luke, and you all hung out one hazy camp afternoon.Â
You looked up at the girl, smiling brightly as you twirled a pink flower in your palm. Grabbing Lukeâs jaw with your soft, freshly manicured hands and turning his head to look in their direction, Chris pulled out a Polaroid camera, snapping a photo of the teens.Â
As the black picture slid out of the small box, Chris handed it to Clarisse, who shook it with force in order to see the image fully.
âDo you want me to take one of you two?â You asked, snatching the camera from Chrisâs hands and pointing it towards them.Â
They posed, and the photo turned out super cute. You stared down at your frilly ruffle socks that stuck out of your high-top navy blue Converse. The toes of the shoes had been decorated with the signatures of all of your friends.
âItâs getting late; wanna head back?â Chris suggested the others let out a groan. He was right; they had camp duties to attend to, but being wrapped in their loved oneâs embrace was so much more appealing.
You hopped up reluctantly, Luke grabbing your hand as you took the scenic route back to the cabins, the other couple straying a different way.
âI love going out with them.â You declared, breaking the silence and dramatically swinging your intertwined arms.
âMe too. It makes me feel like weâre just regular people.â He responded, smiling at her with such genuineness.
âMaybe in another universe.â You replied, sighing as you let out a light giggle.
âSpeaking of which,â you continued. âDo you think weâre soulmates in every universe?â
âDuh. Weâre probably Gwen and Spiderman in one.âÂ
âTotally.â They grinned, enjoying the comfort they brought each other in the chaos that was their life.
After hours of training, you slipped back into Cabin 3, taking the photo out of your back pocket and placing it on your bed. You smiled at the sweet situation before Luke burst in, calling you to the bonfire. Obliviously, the Polaroid was left open on your bed, exposed to the world.
You basked in the warmth of Apolloâs kids songs, zoned out while mindlessly swaying to the beat of the guitar. Luke, who was sitting beside you, noticed you staring off into space and questioned it.
âWhatcha thinking about?â
âI wanna tell Percy about us.â You replied, looking into his eyes to detect his emotions. He seemed surprised at first, but his expression changed to one more supportive a few seconds later.Â
âI agree. I mean, he might try to literally drown me, but I hate lying to him.â
âMe too.â You finished, turning back to face the singer. However, you instead met eyes with a furious-looking Percy, holding a small black rectangle in his hands. Your heart stopped, and you leaped up to rush and explain, Luke following behind. The young blond stormed off in the other direction.
âPercy, please listen. We couldnât tell you because we knew how youâd react. I know youâre protective and all, and I love that about you, but Luke's a good guy, and we both know that.â You started, praying to the gods that this would work out.Â
âI barely even know him!â Percy lied straight through his teeth, trying to come up with a rational reason for his anger.Â
âAre you kidding? Youâve known him for a year now.â You sassed back.
âHow long have you been dating?â He threw away his last point, knowing he had already lost that argument.
âThree months, I think.â You whispered out, ashamed.
âThree months, and you didnât think to let me, your little brother, know?â He screamed, speed-walking back to his cabin, irritated.Â
You let out a sigh, facing Luke. Sadness coated your glossy eyes before seeping out onto your cheeks. Your boyfriend was quick to wipe the tears with his calloused thumb, comforting you.
âHey, heâll come around eventually. Let him sleep it off.â He whispered, embracing you in a tight hug. You buried your head into the crook of his neck, clamping your eyes shut.
As the sun rose the next morning and Percy stepped out of the cabin, you and Luke were waiting outside, prepared with a whole spiel about your relationship. To your astonishment, he greeted you with a smile and spoke up first.
âIâm sorry about last night. While I think this whole concept of you dating Luke is insane, heâs probably the best itâs going to get, so I approve.â You smiled back, a sigh of relief escaping your throat.Â
âAnd Iâm sorry we didnât tell you. Itâs just-âÂ
âDonât. Itâs fine, really. Just absolutely no PDA in front of me.â Percy stated, a look of disgust appeared as he said the last sentence. Both of you agreed to his simple terms.
âIâve gotta go to the arena. Iâll see you later.â Luke declared, and you nodded, ruffling your fingers through his curls before he departed. Once he was a solid distance away, Percy leaned in and whispered to you.
âReally? Luke Castellan? That's the best you could do?â
