Emily Prentiss x reader Warnings: language, alcohol consumption, so much smut, minor mentions of canon type violence/events. Chapters will be tagged appropriately. Very slight crossover between CM & HOC to include Heather.
As Section Chief, Emily has found herself overwhelmed at work and ended up with a very underwhelming personal life. With not enough time or energy to dive into the dating pool she’s a little lost. recently my dad, who dabbles in writing, happened to see something David Seymour said about privilege, and wrote an article about it in one furious sitting. That post is now gathering a fair amount of momentum on social media such as facebook and instagram. So fuck it, why not share it here:
"David Seymour said on twitter
"If you believe you have special rights because of your ethnicity, you’re going to be disappointed with the Treaty Principles Bill. When you’re used to special rights, equality feels like oppression."
A question I have for those who state that Māori get special privileges in Aotearoa New Zealand, Actually two questions.
1/What are they
2/what decade did they start in this country
Did they start in 1863 when the New Zealand government of the day started the Land Settlement Act? An act that confiscated millions of acres of land from the Māori because the Māori refused to sell, leading to the Māori land wars. An act that by the early 1900s meant that Maori held just 8% of the land they had held when they signed Te Tiriti O Waitangi and that percentage continued to fall. As of 2024 land currently owned by Maori is 5% and that's After Waitangi Tribunal Settlements.
The last bit of land was confiscated during WW2 to make an airfield.
Was this one of their special privileges that settlers to New Zealand didn't get?
Did they start in 1867 when the government signed the Native Schools Act, which decreed that all Native Schools would only be held in English? An act that is often blamed on a petition from tribal chiefs calling for a school for their Moku. Yes they did send such a petition but it asked for 2 things, that they be taught literacy, science, and numeracy and the second was that they be taught both in English and Māori. This act wasn't repealed till 1987 by which time several generations of children had had their language and culture beaten out of them. One of these was my Father, speaking Te Reo still makes his hands hurt and he's 80.
This must have been one of those special privileges that only Māori got as this privilege wasn't offered to Dutch or French or other European children who might have spoken another language at school
Was it being Blackbirded? For those that don't know it was the practice of kidnapping Māori and Pacifica and selling them as slaves in Queensland to work the sugar cane plantations.
Thats a privilege that will make you feel special
Was it in the 1850s when the Crown started confiscating Māori children and giving them to Pakeha families to greater assimilate them into the British way of life, An act that continued until well into the 1980s under the foster system leaving them subjected to mental, physical, and sexual abuse
Its a special privilege for special children
Was it a special privilege that John Ballance transported poisoned sugar and flour up the Wanganui River to sell to Māori an act that got overlooked when he became prime minister of this country
Someone was privileged anyway
Or was it in 1907 when the Government signed the Tohunga Suppression Act which banned Māori from access to their healers and medicines and made them rely on Western medicine instead? Did this get rid of a number of quacks, yes but it also suppressed a lot of local knowledge about medicine from local plants that had worked and it put them into the hands of the Western medical system that didn't have their best interests at heart either. It was also aimed at suppressing Māori religion and culture, after all, you suppress the belief system you suppress the people
The only laws aimed at suppressing a religion passed in this country were made against Māori so that must be one of their special privileges, but they did get to pick what religion they could be forced into, Protestant or Catholic so there's that
Is one of the special Privileges a shorter life span, on average 7 years shorter than Pakeha. Yes, the average life span for Māori in the 1700s was 30 but that was the same for Europeans. Is it because they have the privilege of having their symptoms overlooked in a medical system that has prioritised pakeha males, Is it that Pakeha women are more likely to be offered pain relief during childbirth than Māori women? Is it because they were often paid less than their pakeha counterparts at 81 cents to the dollar and so couldn't afford regular checkups? Is it because they were taught not to put themselves forward and to be noticed by society, to be a good Māori?
Is it a privilege that the New Zealand health system can no longer take their race into account when giving them treatment?
Better-researched people have written more on this special Privilege so I will move on
Was it in 1926 when old age and widow pensions came into this country and Māori were only paid 75 per cent of the going pension rate. In 1937 when pressed on why the Senior Treasury official Bernard Ashwin stated "On the face of it, it may appear equitable to pay the average Māori old-age pensioner the same amount per week as the average European pensioner, but in this matter questions of equity should be decided having regard to the circumstances, the needs and the outlook on life of the individuals concerned … the living standard of the Māori is lower – and after all, the object of these pensions is to maintain standards rather than to raise them.’" Or more simply a grass skirt is cheaper than a suit.
I guess being able to make do with less is a special privilege
Was it during the early to mid-20th century when signs saying No Māori's on pubs, hotels, theatres, and even drinking fountains were not uncommon and cinemas and pools had separate use days? In many places, Māori were only allowed to use the pools on Friday as they were cleaned on Saturday. It must have been that Privilege of trying to rent a property and seeing advertisement after advertisement saying Europeans only. Was it that privilege of being denied bank loans because they were Māori?
Being treated as lesser in your own country must be a privilege
Is it the privilege that Māori are jailed at 3 times the rate of Pakeha for the same crimes that will get a paler-skinned person a non-custodial sentence or no charges at all? They do get a special privilege that their race is taken into account when arrested, or charged or sentenced but that comes with the privilege of their race working against them every step of the way. During the mid-20th century often young Māori men were seen socialising together and harassed by police until they committed an antisocial crime like swearing in public and were sent to borstal
Is it a privilege that unjustified force is disproportionately used against Māori in police encounters and arrests
Constantly being under the watchful eye of the law must be a special privilege indeed
Was it a special privilege that Māori had to start occupying confiscated land in 1977 starting at Bastion Point in an effort to finally get some redress to the massive loss of tribal land, An occupation that lasted for over a year before it was brutally put down by the police and Army
Bash our heads, it's our privilege as Māori
And then there's that special privilege that Māori love and enjoy called the 2004 Foreshore and Seabed Act an act that takes the aforementioned and places them in the hands of the crown as opposed to the public domain or as was guaranteed by Te Tiriti and then promptly confiscated from guardianship and ownership of Māori. Luckily this bill was repealed in 2010 and replaced with the Marine and Coastal Act 2011 which guaranteed the right to access justice through courts but only if Māori could exercise that special privilege they have.
Can they show that their rights to the foreshore and seabed have been exercised since 1840, in accordance with Tikanga Māori, without substantial interruption and was not interrupted by law, say a law passed in 1863. Then if so, by special privilege then they can put it before the courts. In 2024 they got even more special privileges when the Government ignored the courts recommendation to lower the threshold of proof and required Māori to prove they had had continual exclusive use and ownership since 1840 to have a chance to get confiscated foreshore lands back
Yay the privilege of ever-moving goalposts
Did the privilege start in 1988 when the Crown returned Bastion Point to Ngati Whatua after a prolonged court case or was it in 1989 when the first Ti Tiriti O Waitangi settlement was done giving Waitomo Caves back to Uekaha Hapu or was it 1987 when Te Reo was recognised as an official Language or was it the early 2000s when Bilingual signs started being put up around Aotearoa or was it in 2024 when the Government banned Bilingual signs on roads and in government buildings?
Was it in 1867 when the Māori were granted 4 parliamentary seats, given the Maori population at the time compared to Pakeha it should have been more although it could have been 1868 when Māori men got the right to vote? Oddly it was 11 years before pakeha men were given that right, before then, only landowners could vote and because Māori held land in common all of them could vote
Was it in 1880 were several hundred prisoners from the Māori peaceful protest group Parihaka were held and treated to 2 years hard labour without trial and their settlements burnt and confiscated
Was it in 1977 when race was added to the Human Rights Commission as something you couldn't discriminate against as well as gender, religion or beliefs?
Was it in 1977 when a section was added to the Race Relations Act that made it illegal to publish, broadcast, or make public statements that were likely to incite hostility or ill-will against a group of people based on their: Color, Race, and Ethnic or national origins
Was it after 130 years of being ground down and stepped on and murdered and marginalised and robbed, that laws were made that said, you know we probably shouldn't have been doing that
Is the privilege the knowledge of what 184 years of all of the above does to a people, the hurt that it causes deep into the bone
Is it that in the 40 years since that Human Rights Commission rule that Māori have begun to hold up their heads, to be proud of who they are, to speak their language and to rediscover their culture?
To speak out against things that are wrong in the health system, the education system, the justice system, the welfare system and the political system. To demand, not ask but demand redress for the crimes that the Crown has not only done against them but encouraged others to do to them.
Did the Privilege start when the Waitangi Tribunal awarded 6 cents for every dollar of land confiscated? If you want that broken down, for every million dollars worth of land confiscated, the reparations were only $60000
Is it because New Zealand as a society got used to seeing them be shy, and humble and hard-working and lost amid the diaspora that pakeha society caused?
That society got used to being able to exploit the bits of Māori culture we liked, like the music and the humour and the strong back and compliance and when they found their voice and took it back and that redress was happening and suddenly, they were privileged because how dare they not be happy with scraps from the table.
That Māori were no longer being the Good Māori.
Is the privilege that in 2024, 184 years after the signing of Te Tiriti, Māori are finally getting a fraction of what they should have had if Te Tiriti had been honoured
One other question to the Pakeha of Aotearoa New Zealand
If all of this looks like a Privilege. Do any of you want to swap places?"

HOW A CATHOLIC PRIEST GOT CLOSER TO HEAVEN
Recently, I was told by Bill Kraus that his father a SR 71 navigator and RSO and a SR-71 Pilot, Tony Bevacqua and four or five other crewmembers would go to the chapel and pray every day they were blessed and protected by God because no Air Force officer was killed in the line of duty flying the SR 71
The actual unofficial top speed of the SR 71 is 3.52. This happened because of the urgings of a Catholic priest!
SR-71 pilot Tom Alison said, “My God, Padre, what more do you want?
I came within 5degrees of burning up this entire airplane! “What more do you want? The Father wanted to make sure that he broke the official record of the fastest speed in the SR 71 that’s what he wanted. Father Hesburgh was used to asking for a lot and getting it. Father Theodore Hesburgh, President of Notre Dame, was an aviation buff. He was hooked after a flight in a barnstormer’s stunt plane at the age of 10 that his Dad paid five dollars for. In his autobiography, he wrote that He has logged nearly three million miles in the air, flying in exotic aircraft such as an F14-Tomcat, a Torpedo Bomber, a Weather Plane, and many more. He also broke the sound barrier several times, flew into a volcanic crater, and piloted a naval bomber over the Pacific despite having no formal flight training. But he wanted more. The ultimate prize would be to fly in the world's fastest airplane and break the current record. That record was set in 1976 at 2193 mph.
President Carter was thanking the Roman Catholic priest for his Goodwill accomplishments; he asked Hesburgh is there anything I could do for you? President Carter recalled the moment Hesburgh asked for the favor: “I said, ‘Fr. Hesburgh, it’s not customary for civilians to ride on a top-secret airplane.’
He said, ‘That’s all right. I thought you were Commander-in-Chief.’”
Two days later, Hesburgh got a call from the Air Force’s chief of staff. He was to report to the Beale Air Force Base, CA, to undergo a training regimen and series of rigorous tests. After passing the physical and psychological examinations administered to astronauts, Hesburgh had to learn how to operate every instrument in the back seat: navigational equipment, radios, and dozens of gauges and meters. He was then put through situational training for various emergency scenarios, including ejection and equipment failure. Father Hesburgh was possibly the oldest VIP to get a ride in the SR 71. He was 61. A close rival for this title would be Senator Barry Goldwater. He was 60 when he got his VIP ride in 1969.
On February 28, 1979, Hesburgh and the pilot, Major Tom Alison, prepared for their attempt to break the Blackbird’s speed record. The priest wanted to push it to the limit..
After cruising at 30,000 feet just under the speed of sound, Allison and Hesburgh dove 5,000 feet and broke the sound barrier. They then turned their nose upwards and rocketed past 80,000 feet, accelerating through Mach 3. As Hesburgh watched the speedometer, the Blackbird pushed past 2,200 miles per hour, breaking the plane’s speed record.
In his autobiography, Hesburgh said that when he’d landed, he “asked Tom if he had pushed the plane as fast as it would go.” Allison responded, “My God, Padre, I went within five degrees of burning us up. What more do you want?”
Hesburgh fulfilled a lifelong dream — he set an unofficial airspeed record in the world’s fastest airplane, an SR-71 Blackbird. This became the Father's proudest accomplishment, a story that he told over and over again to his friends. This is a truly remarkable story about a man who asked for an almost impossible task and received it!

PotP Ch 56 - Blizzards, Blackbirds, and Bargains: Part 2
Tumblr media
Well, technically not from Corona directly. The dagger that laid out on the table before them bore the symbol of the Brotherhood, the crest of Umbra. Which was close enough.
Another dimension was another dimension after all.
“Watcha looking at?” Aunt Cass peered over the teens shoulders to see what had caused such fuss and fascination.
“Uh… nothing.” Hiro squeaked.
“Varian found a neat dagger in the snow.” Tadashi answered, cool as can be. “Someone must have dropped it. We're trying to figure out who it belongs to.”
“Well, your best bet is to turn it over to the lost and found at the police station.” Aunt Cass advised, as she walked over to the TV controls laying behind the counter. “You can give it to Chief Cruz once the storm is over.”
She flipped on the TV to see the weather.
“As you can see here, there's another cold front coming in tonight.” The weather girl said, pointing towards a green-screened map. “While the snow has eased up some, we're expecting more flurries later on in the day and even possibly some sleet tonight.”
“Therefore we advised people to still stay indoors and if you have to go out, try to get your errands done before 3 PM. The trolley will run from 10 to 2 in the afternoon for those of you who do need to travel.
Over to you Duff.”
The scene changed to the news anchor at his desk.
“Thank you Sheryl. Breaking news this morning. Apparently a series of burglaries happened last night while the city was distracted with the snow storm. Several banks, jewelry stores, and museums are reporting losses, with no evidence as to who the perpetrator might be.”
The scene changed again, and Chief Cruz, all bundled up in scarf and earmuffs, stood in front of the police station.
“We think it's an inside job. There's no signs of forced entry and all of the security cameras were tampered with. In addition, given the sheer volume of items missing and the distance between the various locations that were hit, would seem to suggest that multiple robberies happened near simultaneously; indicating an organized crime ring.”
While the Chief went on explaining proper safety procedures, the rest of the gang shared knowing looks.
------------------
It was difficult to see through the swiftly falling snow as the heroes flew, skated, and teleported across the city. Even Baymax’s sensors seemed to be on the fritz.
Despite this, the gang had found various treasures haphazardly strewn about town. Tapestries, toy chessmen, fur cloaks, small chests, other weapons, books, scrolls, a lone deerskin boot, and even a parchment map that was torn to shreds; all of it tossed about by the wind and all of it foreign to this world.
Varian’s goggles fogged up as he stepped out of the portal onto a rooftop. He wiped them clear with his sleeve and bent down to pick up another artifact.
This one was a ragdoll, worn, faded, and tattered, as if it hadn't been played with in years. In fact a lot of the stuff they had found was in a damaged state; as if all this stuff had been abandoned and thrown into this world like garbage. The dagger he had first found being the most intact due to the material it was made of.
Varian frowned. The doll’s coal black eyes stared back at him dully. They were also made of obsidian; same as the dagger, same as the stone chess pieces, and same as the arm bangle they had found earlier. Varian didn't know much about his father’s home country, but he did know that stone carving was a time honored tradition there.
He himself had never learned the craft, but his dad’s skills had been well regarded. He would, on rare occasions, carve small gifts out of stone. A toy here, a piece of jewelry there; quartz wedding rings were popular in the village and one of Varian’s favorite toys growing up was a carved knight on horseback.
“Oooh! I found a dress!” Honey Lemon’s voice broke out over the intercom, snapping him out his thoughts. “Well part of a dress anyways. One of the sleeves is missing.”
“Wooop! Yes! I found an axe!” Fred hooted with joy.
“You're not keeping the axe, Fred.” Wasabi dismissed.
“But-”
“Put it down.” Gogo demanded.
“As cool as all this medieval stuff is…” Tadashi chimed in, ignoring the argument over the axe, “has anybody figured out where it's all coming from yet?”
“I may have found something.” Hiro said as he flew past on Baymax. “Meet me in the park.”
------------------
“Well I guess we found that ‘cold front’ the weatherman said to look out for.”
Wasabi was the first to speak, if nothing else than to ease the overwhelming sense of dread that had overcome the group.
Before them, at the top of king’s hill in the park, was the largest portal they had ever seen.
It stood as tall and as wide as a two story building.
There were no frames nor turbines, like with previous set ups, but there was a swirling vortex of energy that whirled around the gateway. And this gateway led straight to a raging snow storm.
Wind, sleet, and snow blasted out of the inter-dimensional window and into the freezing San Fansokyo air.
Hiro gulped. “S-so how do we stop it?”
“Over here!” Gogo called out. “I think I found the controls.”
They met her at the foot of the hill where stood a metal podium with controls built into the top and a generator beside it. Varian kicked over some snow to find the buried wires traveling back towards the top of the hill, and presumably whatever electronics kept the portal in place.
“Hey look!” Fred yelled as he opened up a nearby sack. “Do you suppose they're using these to power the portal?”
He held up a diamond, looking through it like a spyglass.
“No, but I do think we’ve just found all of the stolen loot that went missing last night.” Hiro said, opening up another bag to find a pearl necklace.
“So you're telling me that whoever opened up the portal to the fairytale dimension, decided to go on a robbery spree?” Tadashi asked, incredulously. “Wouldn't they have they're own riches in that Umbra kingdom?”
“Looked more like junk to me.” Gogo commented; pulling out a single ripped leather glove from her back pocket and holding it up to remind everyone the real value of the other worldly treasures they had found.
“Maybe they're a part of the fae and are like exchanging trash for shiny stuff cause they think it's an even trade or something?” Fred guessed.
“The fae wouldn't use electricity, Fred.” Varian stated matter of factly as he examined the controls. That's when his eyes landed on the blue folder.
“That's Callahan’s notebook.” Hiro said when he noticed what Varian was holding. “But I thought you lost it.”
“So did I.” Varian muttered as he flipped through the notes.
“But both Callahan and Momosake are still in jail.” Honey Lemon timidly pointed out. “Who else would have known about it?”
They all got their answer when another, smaller portal opened up right next to them, and out stepped Sirque with a bag slung over her shoulder and a stolen crown perched precariously on top of her head.
Super villain and heroes stared at each other for a moment, stunned. Until Sirque rolled her eyes, dropped the bag of loot, and raised her hands.
“Alright, fine. You caught me.”
“Shut the portal down now!” Varian demanded.
Sirque took a step back, surprised by the ferocity in his voice.
“Okay… okay. It'll take a moment to power everything down ...”
She turned off the smaller portal behind her and walked over to the control panel.
“You have to shut everything off in sequence or it'll risk an implosion.” She finished explaining.
“That's the least of our problems.” Varian muttered.
“I don't know. ‘Imploding giant portal’ does sound like a pretty big problem to me.” Wasabi countered.
“Listen. The rocks could come through at any moment. That's a far bigger worry right now.”
“Rocks?” Sirque asked.
“Do you have any idea where that portal leads to?” Varian responded.
“The frozen tundra.”  She pointed back towards the gateway like it was obvious.
“Yes… the frozen tundra of a completely different dimension.”
Sirque blinked at him, unsure how to respond to such a statement, but then decided it didn't matter.
She rolled her eyes again and shrugged. “If you say so.” And then began the power down sequence.
She didn't get the chance to finish.
Halfway through the ground began to rumble under their feet. But before anyone could yell “Earthquake!”, black stalagmites burst from below. They barreled straight towards the group, towering as tall as a grown man, before abruptly stopping a few feet past where they all stood.
It was all over and done within a matter of seconds. The gang of superheroes barely had time to roll out of the way from the onslaught.
“Ohmygod, ohmygod, ohmygod, ohmygod.”  Honey Lemon kept repeating over and over again as she clung to the base of one of the rocks in shock.
“What was that!?” Sirque yelled.
“The rocks.” Varian answered, lifting Hiro off his feet.
“Is everyone okay?” Gogo shouted.
“I’ve been better.” Wasabi grunted.
Everyone rushed to his side. One of the black spikes had pierced his armor, breaking the shoulder guard and grazing his shoulder.
“It sliced right through my shield like a knife through butter.” He hissed, as Baymax applied antiseptic to his wound.
“Fortunately it doesn't look too deep.” Tadashi said, examining Baymax's handiwork.
“Only a minor cut.” The robot confirmed. “It should heal within a few days.”
“I wish the same could be said about the portal.” Fred replied.
The others turned to look at him. He was standing near the now busted up control panel, holding a severed cord.
Sirque’s eyes widened with horror. “Oh that is not good.”
“Please don't say why.” Hiro whispered.
Sirque ignored his pleas. “The generator was used to kick start the portal, but the electromagnets use kinetic motion to maintain energy. Without the controls, I can't tell the portal to power down.”
“No…. No…” Varian practically laughed in disbelief. “Do NOT tell me you don't have a way to shut the portal down.”
“Well there is a backup… but…”
He grabbed her by the shoulders. “No buts, where is it?”
Pinned in his grasp, she timidly pointed back towards the portal.
“There’s another set of controls on the other end, to stabilize the connection.”
Gogo spoke up first. “So you’re telling us, someone has to go in there, turn everything off, and then get back through the collapsing portal before they're trapped in another dimension for all time?”
“Why do you keep saying it's another dimension?”
“Because it is!” Varian shouted, finally letting go of her. “Or do you think those are natural to this world!?”
He pointed back towards the rocks.
Sirque frowned.
“You don't… you don't know that. They could be.. they be an unstudied phenomenon-”
“ I've studied them. I've spent my life studying them. Their chemical makeup doesn't match anything on this Earth. Their physical priorities defy basic physics. They've managed to go against all known scientific research.”
“Trust us.” Tadashi stepped in. “It's alien, and so is he, and that portal you just built leads to another world.”
“You must be joking.” But she didn't sound confident, not in the slightest.
“Joking or not, we need to get those controls rebuilt and that portal turned off asap.”
“We don't have time.” Varian hissed.
“Nobody's going through that portal.”
Varian pressed his lips tightly together as if considering a further argument, but then huffed and marched over to the control panel instead.
“We need a soldering tool.” He said.
“I have a toolbox.” Sirque offered, and ran to her stash to get it.
Those not versed in portal tech, stood to the side and watched.
Honey Lemon had finally calmed down but still looked shell shocked, while the rest of the gang shuffled nervously, unsure what to do.
“Screwdriver!” Varian called out, while Sirque connected the power cables.
Gogo handed him the tool out of the toolbox.
“So… those are what destroyed your village?” She asked.
“Yeah, and they'll destroy San Fansokyo if we don't get this portal closed.”
He finished screwing back in the brackets on the casing, and putting the screwdriver in his mouth, took two ends of a severed wire in his hand and spliced them together.
“Gat me a mut, mill ma?” He hummed, and Gogo went hunting for a ceramic nut for the wires.
“How much time do we have?” Tadashi asked, peering over the other side of the panel.
Varian spit out the screwdriver into his hand as Gogo handed him some nuts and terminal ends.
“No idea. It could be a couple of hours or just a few minutes.”
“What's our backup plan if we run out of time?”
Varian stopped and stared hard at him.
“There is no backup. Nothing can stop the rocks. Nothing. So don't even try it.”
Tadashi frowned, but for once didn't argue.
Hiro kept a pensive eye on the portal as he listened in on his brothers’ conversation.
“Baymax?” He quietly asked his robot companion, hopefully out of earshot of the others. “Can you detect where the other control panel is?”
Baymax scanned the portal entrance way.
“They're is an energy signal coming about half a mile from the portal’s entrance.”
“How fast can you get to it?”
“Given wind resistance, I estimate roughly three minutes.”
“So three minutes to get back through the portal before it collapses, plus whatever time it would take to turn it off. How much time would it take for the portal to close completely?”
Baymax gave the best imitation of a shrug that he could. “I'm afraid I do not have enough information to make that calculation.”
Hiro mulled over the options in his mind as he walked over towards the reconstruction.
“Hey Sirque, if someone went through the portal-”
“No one is going through the portal.” Tadashi interrupted.
Hiro ignored him, “How hard would it be to turn the other set of controls off?”
“Not hard. It's just a simple powering down sequence.” She answered off handily as she flipped through her notes. “First the electromagnets have to be told to slow down, and then the signal has to be shut off, then finally you can cut the power. Do it out of order though and the portal could implode.”
Hiro nodded. “The magnets have to stay stabilized till the power is fully off, got it. So all together, you think what, about six minutes to power it all down?”
Sirque gave it some thought. “Yeah, that sounds about right. Given the portal's size, it's not instantaneous like with my portable tech.”
“I know what you're thinking, and no.” Tadashi said.
“You said we needed a backup.” Hiro argued back. “Baymax and I could fly in there and out again the quickest.”
“Well fortunately we won't need to risk it because Varian is going to fix the panel here. Ain’t that right, V?”
In answer the control panel sparked and caught on fire. As Varian frantically scrambled away, Baymax calmly put out the small flame with his built in extinguisher.
“It's o-okay.” Varian tried to keep the rising panic out of his voice as he examined the damage. “It's just a little surface scaring. Nothing major. I can still fix this.”
No sooner were the words out of his mouth than did the ground start to rumble again. Varian gulped down his fear and turned to look at the portal.
More rocks were heading their way, but this time they were further off.
They could see the black spikes puncturing the snow off in the distance, but it wouldn't take long for the dangerous formations to reach them. Certainly not before Varian had a chance to rewire the controls.
A scream from Honey Lemon broke Varian out of his racing thoughts.
“Hiro NO!!!”
Too late.
Varian barely had time to register the wind rushing past him as Baymax blasted off towards the portal.
------------------
Hiro ignored everyone's cries as he rushed through the portal.
He wasn't sure what he had expected when entering another world, but honestly it didn't look any different from the images of Alaska you'd see on National Geographic. He could understand why Sirque would have assumed that she had created another spacial portal like all the others. The only thing indicating it's alien nature was the large black pointy rocks spiking up through the snow, and they had only just appeared five minutes ago.
Yet despite having not been there moments before, the rocks already trailed off far into the distant horizon in a winding, erratic line as far as the eye could see. Like a giant black serpent snaking its way through the snow.
The enormity of it filled his stomach with lead. These things were fast, and right now they were heading straight towards San Fansokyo. And given the evidence of what he'd seen here, they wouldn't stop at just the city.
“I have found the controls.” Baymax interrupted his thoughts as they landed near another metal podium. The rocks had thankfully just missed it by a few feet. Hiro wasted no time in jumping off and dashing towards the panel.
The power down procedure was simple enough. The control layout wasn't much different from Varian’s portal at school. Probably because both were based off of Callaghan’s work on the Silent Sparrow project.
He flipped the final switch and heard the telltale sign of sparking electromagnets slowly winding down in the distance.
“Quick, Baymax!”
He jumped onto the robot’s back in mid-flight and they took off at full blast towards the portal.
They were racing side by side with the rocks now. Which somehow managed to just keep pace ahead of them by a few yards.
Hiro forced himself to tear his eyes away from unnatural phenomena and focus on their destination instead.
The energy glow around the doorway was dimming and Hiro could just make out the shapes of his friends in the distance.
They were beginning to run towards them, no doubt calling out to him.
He gauged the distance. A little more than a football field to go… Five hundred feet… Four hundred… Three hundred… Two…
“Come on… come on…” He hissed, willing them to go faster… or for the rocks to go slower… or for the power to stay on longer…
They were only ten feet away when the energy connecting the magnets arched, sputtered, and then died away.
“NOOOO!!!”
His friends, the portal, and the gleaming towers of San Fansokyo faded away into a swirl of white snow right as he and Baymax flew past what should have been the gateway.
Baymax skidded to a halt and hovered there as Hiro looked on in horror at the nothingness before them.
Nothing but the snow and the back rocks; which continued on regardless.

Hello, another update!! Last time my cousin and I watched BSG we got through Home Part 1 through Epiphanies.
So here's a quick update about her thoughts to all those episodes:
She was ECSTATIC about the Starpollo kiss haha she literally threw her hands up in excitement when it happened then was annoyed when the scene immediately became tense because of Sharon walking in. She thought the kiss was super random but she definitely wasn't mad about it.
Later when Lee talks to Kara in the brig after he had talked to Sharon and tells Kara she isn't the one who should be telling him what to do my cousin said, "brother you literally kissed her." 🤣
She thought the scene where Lee told her he loved her was cute. And she thought it was funny when Kara teased him about it. My cousin was literally the definition of kicking her feet and giggling during this scene.
She was pretty stressed for all the Kobol stuff especially when Elosha stepped on a trap and Tom and his buddy were planning to take out Lee and his dad.
When they found the tomb of Athena and had the vision with all the constellations it just dawned on her that all the colonies were named after the constellations lmao. It took her that long 🤣😭
She still hates Ellen lol she gets so annoyed every time she's on screen haha. She also kind of figured D'Anna was a Cylon so she wasn't surprised to find that out.
She thought the Blackbird was pretty cool. She was annoyed with Helo and Chief fighting over Sharon. She thought it was super cute how everyone signed the ship and they named it after Laura.
She HATED Cain and understandably so.
She hated what happened with Sharon and Helo and Chief and was glad that Thorne died and that Helo and Chief didn't get executed for intervening.
She was SUPER stressed when Kara was given the task to kill Cain and Fisk had the task to kill Bill. As well as Lee just casually dying during all that too. She was so stressed haha and was relieved when Lee got saved and Fisk nor Kara had to murder anyone.
She was glad Gina killed Cain though. She was just glad Cain died haha.
In Epiphanies she really thought Laura was gonna die. She was confused and shocked when Bill kissed her towards the end of the episode.
Also in the one scene Lee and Dee have where their faces ended up close during like fighting practice she did the same thing she had done to Kara and Sam where she went, "get away!" 🤣
She's gonna absolutely hate how those relationships develop and how it'll be both of the pairs she doesn't like.
Also I asked her some thoughts on current ships/couples like which ones she thinks will make it to the end and all and regarding Kara and Lee she thinks they're endgame for sure and I'm just over here sobbing like just wait your opinion on that is about to change real quick and you're gonna be so disappointed/upset 😭
Also at one point where Kara was in danger I made a joke to her about her dying too (this was like after episode where Lee almost died) and she said "she can't die she's a pop figure." And I'm just over here like oh how wrong you are... she's going to be so upset haha
***
Anyway those were her biggest/main thoughts from our last watch session. Today we are going to watch more and I'm so curious because we'll be starting off on Black Market which is bleh but I'll be curious to see her thought on that episode especially since Lee is one of her favorite characters. And I'm also curious to see her reaction to Scar because that is an interesting episode too and pretty Kara centered which is another one of her favorite characters. I also can't wait for her to watch Sacrifice because she is going to be devastated about Billy (in the past episodes at one point she literally said how he can't die and she likes him). She's also gonna be sad about Lee. Like poor Lee can't get a break he gets seriously injured/has near death experiences like 3 times within 5 episodes 😭😭
I am also excited to see her thoughts on Razor!
I'm not sure how much further she and I will make it into season two, I'm kind of hoping we'll finish the season but that's me being optimistic about our time, etc.
I shall keep y'all posted :)

In your villainous Au de Malleus, will Rollo Flamm appear?
You know, I've been trying to figure out what to do with Rollo (whose name I still declare to be the single dumbest name in TW history) since he made his debut. I really enjoyed his character, and I feel there are definitely some potential possibilities for stories there...I just don't know what they are yet. XD As far as him appearing in the Black Dragon AU, I hadn't actually considered that. But if I were to include him...(thinks)...I think Rollo would essentially be a noir-esque inspector, but with a sort of dandified demeanor other officers lack. He is a no-tolerance type of officer; he deeply dislikes Malleus, of course, but he also dislikes the Blackbird. In his mind, a vigilante and a supervillain are just two sides of the same coin. He'd essentially be an anti-villain, similar to Inspector Javert; not necessarily evil, but deeply misguided, and perhaps at some point he'd cross a line in his obsession with cleaning up the crime in the streets. This also would have been what I would have done with my own Frollo OC, whom I created before Rollo was a thing, Chief Jehan. Maybe both of them work together...or maybe I just leave Jehan out of it. XD

JJ for the character ask?
Hi thank you so much! This is a bit lengthy, so I’ll put it under the cut.
Favorite thing about them:
Everything! She is the absolute (fictional) love of my life. I love how she is able to pick up on people's emotions and do her best to help them with that. Another favorite of mine is that if anyone hurts the people she loves, she will not hesitate to end that person.
Least favorite thing about them:
None that I can think of. As usual, I blame the writers.
Favorite line:
I’ll give my top 5 in no particular order:
- "Oh, mm-mm, nope! Nope. We promised, we wouldn’t.”
- “If we can’t make date night, we can always do date morning” (sorry the way she delivered the line is so hot)
- The whole hostage negotiation she did with Billy Flynn in 6x01.
- Every time she says Emily’s name (does that count? Lol)
- “You, kids. I can see it.”
brOTP:
Derek, Spencer, Luke, Matt, and Penelope
OTP:
Emily (always), and Tara
nOTP:
Hotch and Rossi
Random headcanon:
- Thanks to AJ, JJ has piercings in canon. In season 13, it started off as a dare during girls’ night from Emily and/or Penelope’s encouragement and she decided to get it professionally done on her right ear. Then, some years later (in Evolution), JJ decides to get another one on her left. I’m not sure the reason yet, but that’s my personal hc. I would love to get more in depth about it.
- Blackbird has made such an impact for JJ. Not only does she use that as a codeword for Emily to recognize, but it is one of the songs she has on her pregnancy playlist when she was pregnant with Henry. Emily most likely told her way before season 6 that it’s one of her favorites, and JJ kept that in mind when she became pregnant. She sings it to Henry whenever he has nightmares.
Unpopular opinion:
Just the underwhelming amount of appreciation JJ receives, pretty much. I also think the writers tend to underutilize writing her character and establish exactly why she is the way she is.
And I really wish she was unit chief! I’ve already said this numerous times, but she deserves that position. The fact that Emily trusts JJ enough to take over her role, and the writers are mean for not giving that to us. I kinda understand with wanting Emily back in the team, but you know she would still have JJ in mind to take her place.
Song I associate with them:
A lot of Paramore songs. Most definitely ones from their After Laughter album, especially “Fake Happy” and “26”.
Favorite picture of them:
