Here's a fun sketch dump I put together featuring various characters from DCMK! It was such a great exercise, and I even got to draw some of them for the very first time.
If you notice someone missing or have a favorite character you'd like me to include, feel free to share—I’d love to keep adding to this collection!

More requests from Twitter. I'm having too much fun with these. I'm actually drawing characters I wouldn't draw usually, plus I'm getting exercise in drawing more expressive faces. I hope I'll be able to use that more in the future.

Just rewatched Detco ep. 827. RAMEN SO GOOD, IT’S TO DIE FOR 2. In the “next Conan Hint” scene, Conan tells the girls to keep going with their romantic monologues. I’ve just realised that while Yumi and Naeko mention “Chukichi” and “Kazunobu” (as in Haneda Shuukichi and Chiba Kazunobu) their loved ones, Masumi just says “SHUU-NII” (as in Akai Shuuichi, her eldest bother). I mean, I get it, girl. You literally adore the guy, but... that came out really weird

was talking with @blithe-bee during one of our cone sessions about a black org au and what so you know my hands went and did what they wanted today so have some scraps
“Ah, Hattori-kun, right? Inspector Otaki said you were coming.” Detective Chiba Kazunobu was a plump man about Heiji height with short brown hair, pale skin and a kind easy smile as they shook hands.
“That’s me.” Heiji smiled and swung around his backpack, digging around until he found the box of sweets he had gotten at the airport. “Otaki mentioned you like these.” He said as he handed them over and Chiba received them enthusiastically.
Chiba took a peak at the box, briefly debating whether to rip the plastic off right then and there before he decided against it. “Oh, thanks! You wanted to look at a cold case file he mentioned?” Chiba asked as he put the sweets into the locked drawer by his desk.
Heiji nodded, adjusting the straps of his backpack. “Yeah. Kudou Yuusaku’s murder.” He said.
Hattori Heiji had always liked a good mystery. Back when he was a child, his father used to say that it was in his blood. Son of a police officer, always searching for the truth. Heiji had used to believe that interpretation but had eventually come to his own conclusion. It wasn’t so much the truth he was interested in as much as he loved to see a mystery unraveled by his own hand. To completely undo someone else’s careful construction of lies and subterfudge and get to the core of it all.
The murder of Kudou Yuusaku was infamous among fans of mystery literature. Heiji had heard about it years after the fact. A crime mystery author being murdered was a morbid badge of honor and it had made for an excellent story surrounding the books. It was the reason Heiji had begun to read Kudou’s Nightbaron series at all - though he had ended up not finishing it. He wasn’t interested in following an asshole of a main character but he had loved the backstory to its author. What was known to the public was that shortly after publishing the latest book in his series - ‘The Eve of Terror’, which had ended on a cliffhanger - world famous author Kudou Yuusaku had been killed in his Tokyo mansion and his wife and son had disappeared. Due to the public nature of the victim, the police had quickly deduced that the wife had killed her husband and taken off with their child, leaving the country before anyone had even noticed anything amiss. But that was the official story.
Heiji wouldn’t have even thought to investigate the old case. Again not the biggest fan of the books themselves so he hadn’t been terribly interested in the author save for the story surrounding him and all the way in Osaka it had seemed too much of a hassle to actually dig into it.
That was until Kazuha had recommended the obscure, small and unknown book series ‘The Moon Thief’ to him.
Heiji followed Chiba down to the lower levels of the Tokyo police department making idly smalltalk until they reached the archives. A young woman with pale skin and dark hair greeted Chiba easily and smiled at Heiji as she let them pass through the locked gate that protected endless rows of ancient case files.
“What brings you to this case?” Chiba asked casually as he walked through the shelves, getting turned around as he looked for the one Heiji had asked for.
Heiji shrugged with one shoulder. “Client wants to be anonymous. Said there was more to it then the police knew.” He said. The lie had been carefully practiced on the plane trip to Tokyo.
Kazuha had described ‘The Moon Thief’ as a spiritual successor to the Nightbaron series, which hadn’t exactly sold the concept to Heiji but he trusted her judgement when she had assured him he would like it. It had still taken him years until an unexpected burst of hyperfocus had gotten him to read all the books she had of the series in a week. He had instantly understood what she had meant. The author of the Moon Thief series was a certain E.C. or, as he found after some digging, Edogawa Conan. Which was the fakest name Heiji had ever heard of. Obviously it was a pen name. However no matter how deep he dug into it, Heiji couldn’t find the real name of the author. True to Kazuha’s assessment the writing style was similar to that of Kudou Yuusaku - to a point that Heiji even compared parts of both series and found passages with similar wording - and the Moon Thief had hundreds of references to the Nightbaron series so subtle that most readers wouldn’t pick up on it. Unless of course they had falled down the rabbit hole of an increasingly insane sounding conspiracy theory and spend the last months of his life reading every book in both series and catagloging every single instance like Heiji had.
“Ah, there it is.” Chiba said, finally stopping in front of one shelf. He reached in to pull out a dirty cardboard box, sneezing as the dust was disturbed. The faded writing on the front said Kudou Family, Kudou Yuusaku. Heiji took the box as eagerly as Chiba had taken the sweets from him and looked around for a desk. Chiba gestured over to the end of the room where metal tables lined the walls, straining under old desktop computers. “I’ll be at work for another six hours.” Chiba told him with a glance at his wristwatch as Heiji settled down on one of the tables. “Let me know if you leave before that, or I’ll come pick you up before I leave.” He said.
Heiji nodded, already taking out his notebook and pens. “Thank you.” He threw over his shoulder.
Trying to find the real name of the Moon Thief series’ author had landed Heiji on a small fan forum. The series wasn’t as popular or well known as the Nightbaron’s, it didn’t even have any translations but there was a small dedicated collection of fans online. They were no closer to discovering the identity of the author but they had stumbled upon something else that had truly kicked off the mad spiral Heiji had found himself in.
One small forum post, almost ten years old now, of an anonymous user asking: ‘Hey, has anyone noticed those hidden messages in the books?’
The Moon Thief series currently had 12 books, almost one release per year and in each one of them was a hidden message. The books were self-published by whoever Edogawa Conan was and thus the formatting could be a little funky at times. On his first read through Heiji had glossed over the occasional word in a different font, annoyed but ultimated too caught up in the story at hand to worry about it for long. The people on the fan forum however had gathered pieces together - at least for the first two books until the thread had been abandoned. The words they had found were gibberish when put in order of appearance. Someone in the thread had speculated it was a code but nobody else had ever replied afterward. A moderator had closed the thread eventually, saying that it was likely just a print issue. Heiji however knew differently. The mysterious author was leaving a message in his books, it was just a matter of decoding them.
It had taken him and Kazuha several weeks of pouring over the books night after night, looking at context, meaning, synonyms. It had been like trying to break down a wall with their heads until one night, slightly drunk Kazuha had wondered:
“Do you think Edogawa Conan is Kudou Yuusaku?” Which was when everything had really taken off.
Heiji spread out the case files on the desk, reading over everything, writing down what he thought necessary. Authorities had been alerted by the Beika Preschool, that one of their students, Kudou Shinichi, had failed to show up to class two days in a row without any word from his parents. Any attempt to contact the family by the school and close friends had been without success. Friend of the family and police officer Detective Mouri and his partner Detective Megure had gone over to the Kudou family home to investigate. Neighbour and long time family friend Professor Agasa Hiroshi had returned from a trip as the officers arrived and - concerned for the family as well - opened the front door for them with his spare key. The house was completely deserted. In the library the officers found a huge amount of dried blood and, gruesomely, a single severed toe which was later determined to belong to Kudou Yuusaku. Some clothing and other personal items from the wife and son were missing, leading investigators to conclude that the wife had likely killed her husband and taken off with her child. According to Tokyo airport, both wife and son had gotten on a plane to Shanghai two days prior. Inquiries to the continent had revealed they had not passed through customs into the country.
Further investigation and witness testemony of Kisaki Eri, wife of Detective Mouri and close friend of Kudou Yukiko, had revealed troubles in the marriage. According to Kisaki, who worked as a lawyer with great success, Kudou Yukiko had spoken to her about filing for a divorce a week prior to their disappearance. Kudou Yuusaku had alledgely been infidel with a number of his fans though that speculation had not been confirmed. Six year old and best friend of young Kudou Shinichi, Mouri Ran had also been questioned. According to her, Kudou Yuusaku would never be able to cheat on his wife without his son finding out about it. In the report, Detective Mouri noted that the young boy was precocious and bright and might have noticed anything amiss and was thus likely their best chance of solving the case, stating top priority to find his whereabouts.
Despite this, the case had been closed a few years later without any sign of either Kudou Yukiko or her son Shinichi. In absence of other leads, Yukiko had been found guilty of murder and kidnapping and an active search was still undergoing though after 12 years she was unlikely to surface.
It was after Kazuha’s half serious theory that they finally had made progress. The words in the Moon Thief corresponded to words in the Nightbaron books, revealing their true meaning. It had taken some time. Heiji had ended up with multiple copies of the entire series. The Nightbaron had had several reprintings and versions with minor formatting differences that had made the deciphering intensely frustrating but it eventually had all come together.
Every book in the Moon Thief series contained a letter to a lost son from a desperate father, begging him to come home.
Which had brought Heiji to Tokyo to look into the supposed murder of Kudou Yuusaku.
It didn’t take long to go through all the casefiles. The investigation had been superficial. Heiji knew enough about police procedure that it was likely the Inspector of the time had demanded the case be wrapped up quickly due to the public scrutiny. Both reports of Detectives Megure and Mouri had an underlying frustration in their wording. Ultimately few leads had been followed to its natural conclusion and the case had been closed before too long.
Heiji took his notes and packed up diligently, returning the box to its place before heading back upstairs to talk to Chiba. The official records would only give him so much, as he had expected. It had been important to get the first accounts of the crime scene and all the characters involved however. The supposed remains of Kudou Yuusaku were gruesome enough that murder would always have been the first conclusion but on closer inspection it would have been easy to stage. There was no telling yet how the wife and son were involved or if they were still alive but Heiji knew where he needed to look next.
Chiba looked up in surprise when he saw him approach his desk. “Done already?” He asked when Heiji came to a stop in front of him.
“Not much there to go through, to be honest.” He told him and Chiba smiled apolegetically. “I was hoping to talk to the detectives that first investigated it. Megure and Mouri?”
Chiba blinked at him. “Oh, right I forgot the boss worked on it. Megure is Inspector now.” Chiba told him and gestured vaguely into the direction of a desk at the other end of the room. At it was an older man with a matching coat and hat and an impressive stache on his pale face. He was surrounded by other police officers, speaking fiercly before the group of them headed off to a nearby room. “I don’t think he’ll have time to talk today though.” Chiba said. “They are working on a big case.” Was all he said and Heiji looked after the group with curiosity. What kind of big case required that much man power? He shook his head, not his problem right now.
“And this Mouri?” He asked.
Chiba scratched his head. “Mouri is no longer with the police. I don’t know why but he’s a private investigator now.” He said and began to dig around the scattered papers on his desk. Eventually he unearthed a wrinkled business card made of terribly tacky golden paper. He handed it over to Heiji. “If he hasn’t moved, that’s his address.” Heiji lifted the card with a smile.
“Thanks, that’s a huge help.” He told him, already taking out his phone to look up the address. “Would you ask Inspector Megure to contact me when he’s got the time?”
Chiba nodded and stood up to shake Heiji’s hand. “Sure. You might be lucky. I don’t think the Inspector ever let that case go. It’s one of those, you know.” He added and Heiji understood immediately. They said their goodbyes and Heiji headed out to the busy streets of Tokyo. Time to find the Mouri Detective Agency.

So today, I was in the mood to draw something, but I didn't know what I should draw.
My gf suggested "draw a character you've never drawn before," and I thought, "Great idea!", until I remembered that I literally drew basically everyone of the main cast when I first got into detective Conan 20 years ago 😂
So. Have some people I haven't drawn before.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I get now why Date is so often not included in fanart of the Sakura Boys. He's hard to draw 😭
Shiratori, what the ever loving fuck is your hair doing??
Chiba was surprisingly easy to draw and turned out really cute imo.
And goodest boy Kazami on his way home after a long day at work 😂
