Cory McKenna submits Miranda Granger via Von Flue choke - UFC Fight Night: Santos vs. Hill
Cory McKenna (7-2) is one to watch at strawweight. One of the surprisingly small amount of women who actively try to shoot in open space. And she’s pretty good at it. If her submission game keeps improving, it’s going to make her a real handful for a lot of women at 115.
She’s facing Cheyanne Vlismas (7-2) at UFC Fight Night: Cannonier vs. Strickland this Saturday (Dec 17).

I can’t tell of Cheyanne Vlismas is actually a smooth boxer or if Mallory Martin is just making her look good by following her around the cage. If you’re going to pressure you have to attack your opponent when they move. Martin just isn’t doing that. Not leading enough. You can’t just let Vlismas move until she’s comfy and then plant her feet and throw.

Wojcik dethrones Beastie Barbie
EFC’s final event of the year took place at the Time Square Sun Arena in Pretoria, with two EFC titles changing hands.Poland’s Karolina Wójcik(4-1) edgedItaly’s Chiara Penco(4-1) totake her EFC women’s strawweight title in a thrilling five round war, and theUSA’s  Jared Vanderaa(8-3) pounded out South Africa’s Ruan Potts(11-7) totake the interim EFC heavyweight strap.
The night’s main event kicked off with a fascinating clash of styles, and an exhausting five round war between Penco and Wójcik. The Italian sat behind her jab, making use of superior range while Wójcik showed great movement to get inside, tagging the champion, but could not match Penco’s power.
While the first round seemed to go to Wójcik’s higher work rate and control, the second was more even with Penco bloodying her opponent, and after being taken down threatening with submissions. In the third round Wójcik revealed serious dominance in the pressure game against the fence, ultimately forcing the champion to pull guard, and once again looking very dangerous off of her back.
Going into the fifth there was no clear leader and their respective game plans took on an extra edge – Penco landing her big jab and adding knees to her arsenal, while Wójcik continued to dominate with control against the fence. The athletes ended in an exhausted heap, with the crowd applauding an absolute war.
The judges awarded Wójcik the title by split decision, setting up an obvious and eventual rematch between the Pole and previous opponent Cheyanne Vlismas, who had to withdraw from this fight due to illness.
EFC 76 Ruan Potts vs Jared Vanderaa
Two-time former EFC heavyweight champion, South Africa’s Ruan Potts, met the USA’s Jared Vanderaa in pursuit of the interim heavyweight title, in theco-main event of the evening.
Vanderaa came out controlled and tactical, striking from the outside and making use of position and dominance on the fence. In the second Vanderaa began to chip away at Potts’s stamina with an avalanche of knees to the body against the fence, and in the third his patient pressure paid off.
Vanderaa scored the take down and unloaded with ground and pound, to which Potts struggled to his feet where he received more knees and punches from the American. Potts was swaying on his feet, and was saved by the referee.
Vanderaa takes the interim heavyweight title, and is now the man to beat in an increasingly competitive division.
A main event on any other night, former three-time EFC heavyweight champion Andrew Van Zyl met England’s Stuart Austin, himself a former light heavyweight contender. Both were coming off a loss to current heavy and light heavyweight champion Champion Dalcha, and bristling for a fight.
Van Zyl came out steaming, landing a series of jabs and hooks, but soon Austin scored a take down and took control with a dangerous crucifix and groundand pound, before silencing the arena with a knock out of a man who not only has never been knocked out, but never even knocked down.
Van Zyl is legendary both as a champion and as the man with the organisation’s toughest chin. Tonight it finally gave way, signaling the truth of a retirement that he announced at the post event press conference to emotional fans. Taking his place is a brutal new incarnation of the Englishman Austin.
“I want Potts, I don’t care who wins… easy money!” Austin roared, to which Potts answered after his loss to Vanderaa, “let that Englishman come.”Austin has put himself at the very top of the contender pile however, and his next opponent remains to be seen.
In a night full of highlights, former EFC welterweight champion Dallas Jakobi returned to the Hexagon after a five-year layoff, to the delight of the Pretoria crowd.
Dallas Jakobi defeated Mark Kamba via tapout
Jakobi was dropped by opponent Mark Kamba almost immediately, and amazingly survived a deep rear naked choke, to set up a grappling clinic of a first round.
The second saw both coast-based fighters suffering the effects of altitude. It was a haphazard but brutal round with both men trading haymakers, which ultimately left Kamba on his stool unable to come out for the third.
Jakobi scores a victory, and sent a reminder to both the welter and middleweight divisions of the grit and power of the former champ.
Former welterweight title contender, Brazil’s José Da Rocha, opened the main card with a short notice bout against the dangerous Pretoria native, Conrad Seabi.
Brazil’s José Da Rocha
Seabi was running hot off a two-fight win streak, and had been dominating fight week build up with taunts to the Brazilian, but luck fell away from him just after the buzzer. Da Rocha landed a right hook dropping Seabi, and then followed with another felling punch that convinced referee Karagiannidis to call the fight in just 50 seconds.
Performance bonuses were awarded to Asiashu Tshitamb, Takunda Gorimboand Stuart Austin. Additional bonuses were awarded to Billy Oosthuizen and Tumisang Madiba, Chiara Penco, Karolina Wójcik and Dallas Jakobi. Fight of the night was awarded to Marino Cutendana and Martin de Beer.
The official EFC 76 results are as follows:
Marcel Els defeated Kabeya Amisi via tapout (armbar) 3:31 into round 1.
Devon Cronje defeated Orlando Mashaba via tapout (guillotine) 1:23 into round 1.
Asiashu Tshitamba defeated Tukunda Gorimbo via unanimous decision.
Neil De Plessis defeated Roger Griffin via tapout (guillotine) 0:54 into round 1.
Marino Cutendana defeated Martin De Beer via split decision.
Tumisang Madiba defeated Billy Oosthuizen via TKO (strikes) 1:56 intro round 3.
Justin Smith defeated Pietie Coxen via tapout (guillotine) 1:12 into round 1.
Roedie Roets defeated Sindile Manengela via tapout (rear naked choke) 0:44 into round 3.
José Da Rocha defeated Conrad Seabi via TKO (strikes) 0:50 into round 1.
Dallas Jakobi defeated Mark Kamba via tapout (verbal submission) at the end of round 2.
Stuart Austin defeated Andrew Van Zyl via knock out 4:58 into round 1.
Jared Vanderaa defeated Ruan Potts via TKO (strikes) 3:25 into round 3, to claim the interim EFC heavyweight title.
Karolina Wójcik defeated Chiara Penco via split decision, to take the women’s EFC strawweight title.

EFC 74 Results - Igeu Kabesa defends EFC flyweight title for the third time
EFC 74 Results - Igeu Kabesa defends EFC flyweight title for the third time - http://mmauk.net/2018/10/08/efc-74-results-igeu-kabesa-defends-efc-flyweight-title-for-the-third-time/
EFC 74 Results - Igeu Kabesa defends EFC flyweight title for the third time
EFC featherweight champion  Igeu Kabesa (11-1) has smashed his way to a third title defence, dismantling Scotland’s Calum Murrie (4-2) during the main event of EFC 74 in Johannesburg on Saturday evening.
The champion flew out of the starting blocks, putting the Scotsman under relentless striking pressure coupled with a strong clinch game against the fence. Murrie constantly threatened to pull guard, but Kabesa refused to enter the Scotsman’s jiu-jitsu game, resulting in Murrie hanging off of the champion for much of the round. A crunching Kabesa knee to Murrie’s chin ended the first.
In the second Murrie’s guard pulling attempts nearly paid off with a flying armbar, but Kabesa defended and responded with a brutal hip throw to end the round, smashing the challenger’s head into the canvas.
The fight settled into the same clinch against the fence dynamic, punctuated by brutal strikes in open space from the champion. In the fourth, Kabesa landed a body kick that doubled the Scot over, followed with a hook that smashed his head back, and then his trademark spinning back elbow that had Murrie wobbling on his feet – but still the Scot kept coming.
The bout went five rounds. Kabesa showed himself to be a consummate champion, nullifying Murrie’s submission talents and dominating him with strikes and pressure against the fence. Kabesa defended his belt by unanimous decision.
Dusseldorf’s ‘German Tank’, Max Merten, entered the Hexagon to face South Africa’s Conrad Seabi in the evening’s penultimate fight. Seabi is a proven striker, while Merten has yet to show the form that landed him on a spot on season one of the reality television show ‘The Fighter’.
Seabi quickly took control with superior movement and punch volume. Merten threatened with an overhand right, but couldn’t compete with Seabi’s fluid angles, and a particularly punishing jab that snapped the German’s head back repeatedly.
Seabi settled behind his jab for the second round and then unloaded with sensational overhand right midway through the third, dropping Merten, and finishing him with ground and pound.
Zimbabwe’s Sylvester Chipfumbu made his return after his title contention loss to flyweight champion Nkazimulo Zulu (a fight that sent him to the surgeon’s table) and made a sensational comeback.
His opponent Tumisang Madiba came out swinging, landing punches which Chipfumbu absorbed and answered with stinging body kicks and repeated takedowns.
Madiba’s extreme aggression carried him to midway through the second round, where Chipfumbu landed a takedown and dominated with ground and pound to close out the round. The third opened with another attack from Madiba that Chipfumbu turned to a takedown and an immediate sinking of a rear naked choke, to take the fight.
“I’m back!” screamed an elated Chipfumbu, a year of intense trials etched on his face.
A double debut and new injection into the women’s division was the second fight of the main card, with the USA’s Vlismas facing Poland’s Wójcik. The women had generated a ton of animosity in fight week, and it showed with them flying at each other at the starting buzzer.
Vlismas seemed to have control early on, but Wójcik proved her toughness with multiple deep submisison defenses.
The second round turned into an epic stand-up battle. Both women tagging each other repeatedly, Wójcik landing clean punches and Vlismas adding to her own tally with brutal body kicks, and a slick takedown to end the second.
The third round opened with no clear leader and both fought tooth and nail to the final buzzer. It was left to the judges to separate the two, an unenviable task. A split decision victory went to Vlismas in a fight that no athlete should have lost. The women took the fight of the night honours and huge respect on their respective EFC debuts.
Angola’s Nerick Simoes walked out as the underdog in his main card debut against specialist wrestler Pierre Botha.
The two put on a scorching first round, battling on the feet and the ground with multiple scrambles, but it was the more experienced Botha that quickly took control and used his wrestling acumen to maintain it, smashing Simoes with hard hammer fists.
The second round delivered the same pattern – Simoes throwing all he had at the fortress of Botha’s top control. Even a near armbar from the bottom couldn’t shake Botha’s onslaught, who simply lifted the Angolan and slammed him out of the submission attempt.
But Simoes was far from finished, and in the third strategic inside leg kicks began to slow the wrestler. Simoes fought a courageous round, but ultimately the skill of Botha was too much who took the fight by decision.
Fight of the night went to Vlismas vs Wójcik and performance bonuses were awarded to Tumisang Madiba & Sylvester Chipfumbu.
The official EFC 74 results are as follows:
Benjimen Mukendi defeated Aly Kalambay via submission (Guillotine) in 2:08 round 1. Takunda Gorimbo defeated Danie Swart via TKO (punches) 1:54 in round 1. Elvis Ngwalangwala defeated Robert Swanepoel ) 0:57 in round 3. Billy Oosthuizen defeated Zwelebanzi Ngema 2:58 in round 3.
Rodrique Kena defeated Sifiso Ngcobo via TKO (punches) 1:38 in round 2. Armand Scheepers defeated Pietie Coxen via submission (Armbar) 4:08 in 1. Pierre Botha defeated Nerik Simoes via unanimous decision.
Cheyanne Vlismas defeated Karolina Wójcik via split decision.
Sylvester Chipfumbu defeated Tumisang Madiba via submission 0:26 in round 3.
Conrad Seabi defeated Max Merten via TKO (punches) 2:10 in round 3.
Igeu Kabesa defeated Calum Murrie via unanimous decision.
All eyes now turn to EFC 75 Zulu vs Joshua, Biko vs Ellenor and are presented by Betxchange.com, and takes place on Saturday 3 November live from GrandWest, Cape Town. Tickets are on sale at computicket.com, and the 5 main card bouts will be broadcast live on Kwesé Free Sports 1 (Kenya & Rwanda), Kwese TV (Sub-Saharan Africa), SABC 3 (South Africa), DAZN (USA), FIGHT SPORTS (Where available) & EFCworldwide.tv (Where available) starting at 21:30 (CAT)/12:30 (DST).
