no joke, what even was Charlotte’s web 2? Like I really did believe originally this wasn’t gonna be a sequel to charlotte’s web until one of the executives went, hey let’s make this a sequel to charlotte’s web
like just at the last minute. And the weirdest thing about it is that this movie has a villain?! Like this Bad guy’s crime was just surviving and trying to eat? Which kinda defeats the purpose of the first film since there’s no villains, not even an antagonist just a story about life and death and change. Heck, Charlotte literally ate other insects so she could survive!
I guess the only threat in the film was maybe Wilbur getting killed and turning into Christmas ham or whatever. But even still it was just a very heartfelt and emotional story/movie about growing up and mortality, while the sequal on the other hand is just, yup! This is most definitely a kids movie with talking farm animals…

Day 69: Powerful song lyrics you love
How very special are we? For just a moment to be Part of life's eternal rhyme? How very special are we To have on our family tree Mother Earth and Father Time
He turns the seasons around And so she changes her gown But they always look in their prime! They go on dancing their dance Of everlasting romance Mother Earth and Father Time
The summer larks return to sing Oh, what a gift they give! Then autumn days grow short and cold Oh, what a joy to live!
How very special are we? For just a moment to be Part of life's eternal rhyme? How very special are we To have on our family tree Mother Earth and Father Time

Academy Award-winning Jewish American songwriter Richard M. Sherman, one of the creative geniuses behind some of Walt Disney’s most iconic and timeless songs, died on Saturday at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills “due to age-related illness,” the Walt Disney Company announced. He was 95 years old.
The Walt Disney Company described Sherman as “one of the most prolific composer-lyricists in the history of family entertainment, and a key member of Walt Disney’s inner circle of creative talents.” The company added that it will announce at a later date its plans for celebrating Sherman’s life.
“Richard Sherman was the embodiment of what it means to be a Disney Legend, creating along with his brother Robert the beloved classics that have become a cherished part of the soundtrack of our lives,” said Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company. “From films like Mary Poppins and The Jungle Book to attractions like ‘It’s a Small World,’ the music of the Sherman Brothers has captured the hearts of generations of audiences. We are forever grateful for the mark Richard left on the world, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family.”
Sherman and his late brother, Robert B. Sherman, made up the songwriting team known as the Sherman Brothers. Together they wrote music for the 1964 film Mary Poppins, including “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “A Spoonful of Sugar,” and the lullaby “Feed the Birds.” The brothers won the Oscars for Best Score – Substantially Original and Best Original Song for “Chim Chim Cher-ee.” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” made it on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1965 and “Feed the Birds” was one of Walt Disney’s favorite songs.
“You don’t get songs like ‘A Spoonful of Sugar’ without a genuine love of life, which Richard passed on to everyone lucky enough to be around him,” said Pete Docter, chief creative officer of Pixar Animation Studios. “Even in his 90s he had more energy and enthusiasm than anyone, and I always left renewed by Richard’s infectious joy for life.”
Born on June 12, 1928, in New York City, Richard’s family relocated to Beverly Hills in 1937. He attended Beverly Hills High School and later studied music at Bard College. He was drafted into the United States Army and served as conductor for the Army band and glee club from 1953 to 1955.
Walt Disney hired the Sherman brothers as staff songwriters for The Walt Disney Studios after the success of their song “Tall Paul,” which sold more than 700,000 singles. The brothers together ultimately wrote more than 200 songs for some 27 Disney films and 24 television productions. Their credit included The Horsemasters (1961), The Absent-Minded Professor (1961), The Parent Trap (1961), Summer Magic (1963), The Sword in the Stone (1963), That Darn Cat! (1965), Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (1966), The Jungle Book (1967), The Happiest Millionaire (1967), The Aristocats (1970), Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971), and The Tigger Movie (1998). Richard later wrote new lyrics for the live-action The Jungle Book in 2016 and two years after appeared in the film Christopher Robin, for which he also composed three new songs.
The Sherman brothers also wrote music for Disney theme park attractions around the world, including “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow,” “The Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room,” and “It’s a Small World.” In the early 1980s, they wrote songs for EPCOT and Tokyo Disneyland, including “One Little Spark” and “Meet the World.”
The Sherman brothers left The Walt Disney Studios in the early 1970s and went on to write music, songs, and screenplays for films such as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968), Snoopy Come Home (1972), Charlotte’s Web (1973), The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1973), Huckleberry Finn (1974), and The Slipper and the Rose (1976).
In 1972, the duo became the only Americans to ever win 1st Prize at the Moscow Film Festival for their film musical The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, for which they wrote the script and music. The brothers were inducted as Disney Legends in 1990 and into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005. Three years later, the brothers were awarded the National Medal of the Arts.
In 2010, Richard and award-winning composer John Debney collaborated on the song “Make Way for Tomorrow Today” for Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 2.
Over the course of his 65-year career, Richard received nine Academy Award nominations, won three Grammys, and received 24 gold and platinum albums. Richard’s father, Al Sherman, was also a songwriter.

Welcome to Revenge of the Underrated!
Some of you asked me to put a "haven't watched both" to be more fair to the more unknown movies, but I've seen other tournaments doing this and I think it limits too much who can participate in the polls. So what I decided to do is a double elimination!
What does that mean? That means a movie has to lose twice to be eliminated. In other words, there will be a sorts of losers bracket that'll be part of main bracket. I'm undecided on whether to do this for only one round or the whole bracket, as it would make the tournament very long. Do let me know if you have any opinion about it.

Spidecember day 11
Character: Charlotte A. Cavatica
Series: Charlotte's Web
Species: Barn Spider (Araneus cavaticus)
Anatomical accuracy: Varies
A close miss and a homerun for the same character. Fascinating.
The original novel comes with illustrations. In most of them, Charlotte is portrayed rather simply- but one shows a bit more detail.
It's a spider, rather generic, but she fits in well with the simple style of all the art. I believe this design was referenced for the 1973 movie adaptation.
... Why does she have antennae.
'73 Charlotte resembles a sort of spider-insect mix, between the distinct head antennae, and two eyes. At least the legs are in the right spot.
Honestly she's not the worst spider we've seen. I can appreciate the little hairs on her legs. Which are hard to see in this screenshot.
Moving on so i can ignore Sacrifice's snickering. 2006's Adaptation brought...
This.
Now that is A. cavaticus. She even has pedipalps!
Barn spiders are on average tan to brown, though they have black or white markings on them. Darker markings are visible on the tips of her leg- you can make one out on some of her back legs.
Compared to a real specimen, she has some squishy-anthroness around her face, and her eyes don't exactly match perfectly with the real thing, but she works fine. She's quite lovely in motion.
youtube
Both versions of the movie are roughly the same, though the '73 version is a musical. I personally prefer the 2006 one.
I'm a stickler for anatomy. What can I say.
Now, In all versions of the story- the book, the movies, even the stageplay adaptation (Yes, that exists)- Charlotte dies at the end of the film. The whole story has this theme of death, with Wilbur (the pig) trying to buy more time to run from his. First being the runt, and saved by the daughter of the farmer who owns him (Fern), then later discovering he is to be sold for meat.
Distraught at his fate, this is what causes Charlotte to befriend him. I assume you already know what the plan to save him entails. Words woven into Charlotte's Web, first "Some Pig", then "Terrific", then "Radiant". These webs get Wilbur taken to a county fair, to be judged. While he doesn't earn first prize, a final web stating merely "Humble" makes the judges give a special prize to him as well. Being a prize pig now, he'll never be slaughtered for meat.
With her mission done, Charlotte lays her eggs, and settles down for the end of her life. She is dying, and with her final request, her eggs are taken back to the farm.
She is at peace with this, for it is how things go for spiders.
Many spiders only live long enough to mate once, never seeing their offspring hatch. Males die shortly after mating, and females die after laying eggs. There are exceptions, but for the humble barn spider, it is an unshakeable fate.
The next year, her eggs hatch, and all 514 slings balloon away, save for 3. They are named Joy, Aranea, and Nellie. Wilbur cares for them- and their children, though none of them will replace Charlotte.
In both movies, they appear as a smaller version of their mother- though in the sequel made for the 1973 movie, theyre given distinguishing hairstyles.
Well. At least they have palps now.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I quite like the story, and the 2006 adaptation has presented one of the most accurate spiders so far.
10/10

My parents are having a party and I’ve put myself on “cat duty” where I lock myself and my cat in my room because I hate it when there are a bunch of strangers in my home and my cat sees any charcuterie board as an opportunity do that gluttonous rat musical number in charlottes web 1973 and anyway the cat in question is now sitting by the door alternating between reaching for the doorknob (she knows how doors work. she can’t use them because she doesn’t have thumbs but I’m positive she has a basic understanding of the relationship between the door and the handle) and staring at me with the biggest wettest sparkliest saddest most miserable eyes in the entire world.

Babe/Charlotte’s Web crossover because I’m sure these pigs are nostalgic characters for many people (they sure are mine)
I based Babe’s design directly off the 1995 movie obviously. Wilbur I didn’t design after any particular adaptation, just went with the original book where he’s often described as a white pig (though I guess he’s pretty white most of the time in the 1973 movie as well? idk VERY unpopular experience of mine is that the Charlotte’s Web movie that I personally grew up with was the 2006 live-action version lmao)

Sorry to bombard you with asks but I just had an epipany that your drawings of Miyuki (and honestly Dava as well) remind me of Charlotte from the 1973 Charlotte's web movie. I just got a tiktok of a clip from the movie and that thought just got into my head lol
That version of Charlotte was one of my first cartoon hyperfixations! I thought she was so pretty. As an adult I realize she looks more like a fuzzy ant than a spider, but I still think she's neat.
Maybe subconsciously Charlotte creeps into my drawings of Miyuki and Dava. Neither really resemble Charlotte personality wise.
Both Miyuki and Dava were formidable soldiers before they were tallests. Both were successful and ruthless conquerors.
Miyuki was famous for her charm and social grace. She maintained a high-class persona even towards the rend of her reign when she really started to get power drunk.
Dava was the opposite. Much of her history is watered down to mentioning little other than her 3 successful births, but she was a mighty tallest in her own right. Dava had once aspired to be a frylord, but was measured tallest before completing her culinary ops training. She spent many stressful battles fighting on Irks surface in between shifts cooking in the mess hall. She worked and fought alongside the tiniest drones. She kept her hive's army fed. She stayed very grounded even after she was measured because of that.
Fellow tallests considered Dava to be "trashy" and disgraceful. Dava made little effort to learn or practice tallest etiquette. She usually showed to formal events in functional armor and war paint. She engaged in conversation with shorter drones, especially scientists, doctors and techs, much more often and openly than other tallests. She made her demands heard. Naturally this is covered very little in holo training texts.
The one oc I have that strongly resembles Charlotte's design is Dow, the Colossus's adopted coddle drone.
Long post is long already, but I must include this, because it was a perfect excuse to use this dialogue. I love the book/ movie, but I think the story of Charlotte's Web may be a little more distressing to Irkens.
Ms. Bitters "Zim! You're up. Present to the class your oral report on...oooh."
Dib "Ow!! Damn it, Zim!"
Ms. Bitters "Dib, don't curse. Zim! Don't throw the books. There's nothing in the budget to replace them. The board used it all on new baseball uniforms."
Zim "What was the point of that stupid book?!!"
Ms. Bitters "It's YOUR oral report, Zim. You tell me and I'll tell you if you're right or wrong according to the curriculum."
Zim "Charlotte DIES ALONE in a fairground? She sacrifices all of her time, energy, silk and health and she doesn't even live to see her smee-er- babies leave to spin their own webs?! Why?! To save a stupid pig?! The humans are just going to eat him next Christmas, Charlotte, you shmizz!!
Do we really need reminders that life is short and death is inevitable?!
That our efforts will have little impact on the universe?! That our hard work will most likely go unrewarded?! DO WE?!
Rot, E.B. White!! If you're going to make shit up, make it uplifting! Come on!!
Zita "But the book also reminds us that the friendships we make along the way make life worth living and the acts of kindness we do for each other gives us hope that the future may be a little brighter for future generations-"
Zim "You rot too, ZI-TA! You WOULD side with that dumb pig!! Typical!!"
Zita "Ms. Bitters!!"
Ms. Bitters. "ZIM, as much as I agree with your assessment, Zita's fits closer to the curriculum. You get a D. Sit down and be quiet for the rest of the day."
Zim "Sure! Who cares?! Earth fiction is STUPID! I'm never reading fictional earth literature EVER AGAIN!"
Ms. Bitters *sigh*
