"Sound" as a concept was incredibly important to Maestro's character and The Devil's Chord as a whole. It has also been at the center of many other Doctor Who stories as well, including the 2003 Robert Shearman audio Scherzo. The antagonist of Scherzo, the Sound Creature, fed on sound in a way similar to how Maestro fed on songs. Throughout Scherzo, the Sound Creature continually evolved to become the dominant life form in the experiment. I believe it possible that the Sound Creature indeed eventually evolved into Maestro.
