It’s not.. really as fun as it seems. I guess it depends on the circumstances.

Mom didn’t take much time getting married to Demetrius and having Maru. I was already eight at the time, which made it a pretty awkward age to have a younger sibling.

I needed that extra attention. I was a hurt kid. But of course, even as a baby, Maru could still outshine me. Of course. Of course..

Mom said I needed to be nicer to her. That she was just a kid. I never really played with her, since I’d rather spend my time listening to music or hanging out with Sam rather than hanging out with a toddler. Sometimes mom even made me take her with us.

And it killed me that even Sam and Abbie wanted to focus on her. I mean, I get that she was a child, but do I get nothing?

That’s kind of when I gave up on achieving. I lashed out more and gave up on being the sweet young man my mom raised me to be. Partially for the attention I got for it, and partially because there was no point to it all.

There was no point in trying so hard if nobody was going to even look at me. So I just gave up.

But it hurt.

It hurt so much to know that no matter what I did, I could never amount to my younger sister.

Having a younger sister is like having a constant thorn in your side that insists it just wants to heal you, as it slowly pierces into you harder and deeper.
