My Webtoon Recommendations

These are webtoons that are all 10/10 for me. Of course it doesn’t have to be a 10/10 for you, so just a reminder, do not attack me for liking a webtoon that you do not. These are my opinions and we are not going to have the exact same taste. Please be respectful.

Your Throne

Genre: Fantasy

You know whats amazing about this webtoon? The summary leads you to think that what shes winning back is the prince. Wrong. Shes trying to win back the throne. I love how this webtoon doesn’t try to make it a girl focusing her goals on a man, but on power. Medea is such a strong and well written character that you can’t help but love her.

The second protagonist Pschye, who of which is the person who took Medeas place as Crown Princess, is the complete opposite of Medea. At the beginning you hate her, but as the webtoon goes on and Medea and her get a better understanding of eachother due to them switching bodies as a wish from God, you begin to root for them as they team up to take over the throne from the Crown Prince.

The art is so beautiful and I constantly found myself at awe from the amount of detail put into it.

The Makeup Remover

Genre: Romace

This was created by one of my favorite webtoon creators Lee Yone. Their art is just so amazing and their stories always include such good topics.

For instance, The Makeup Remover’s theme is loving yourself for who you are. It shows how people treat you based on your looks and as someone whos struggled with that kind of thing for a while, this webtoon really touched me. The main character Yeseul is such a relatable character, even when trying to reject beauty standards, she still came subject to the pressures of living up to the people around her. She struggles with trying to love her own appearance and I really like that this webtoon didn’t try to be like, ‘fuck the beauty standard im better than that screw pretty people!!!’ it actually showed realistically how people struggle with self-image. I also love the main love interest because oh my god, we need more men like him please. He doesn’t care about Yeseul’s appearance and genuinely loves her for her personality.

Also, art is amazing. The author is so talented and you should support them by reading and liking the chapters.

Surviving Romance

Hands down one of my favorite webtoons by a long shot. You ever see a webtoon and think, ‘oh yeah, thats going to be a good webtoon’? Thats how this webtoon was for me. It was so good that I spent hours searching for other chapters that hadn’t been uploaded to webtoon yet on other manhua websites. I discovered it because it was also by the author of ‘The Makeup Remover’.

If there is one thing you need to know about me, its that I am a huge horror fan. So when I saw that my favorite author on webtoon had a horror themed webtoon out? You bet your behind that I binged it. Let me tell you, best choice ever.

Think of it as if ‘Ino’s Law’ and ‘Quarantine’ were combined with amazing art and a badass MC.

The Remarried Empress

I love how it is set up to the point where she cannot ‘quit’ until she completes the novel. Creating scenarios where she must survive while meeting the standards in the book. It is such an amazingly written webtoon and I cannot wait for more chapters to be released.

But just how did everything unfold? “

Am I in love with Navier? Yes.

I absolutely adore how this story was set up. The first chapter begins with the big divorce scene, followed by Navier saying that she was going to be remarrying someone else since he wants to divorce her. This sets up a picture that gets completely shattered as you read the chapters. How everything falls into place with the reason behind the divorce and the remarriage is just so well written. The art is so good and and everything is just so insanely well done.

I absolutely love Naviers character, from her regalness and devoted loyalty to her role as empress, all the way to her petty moments and times of sadness. She is truly a character that you want the best for, and I cannot image anyone not liking her. Also the story is just so capable of making you feel emotions. I’ve laughed, cried, and got angry during the course of reading this webtoon. I love how betrayed I felt when the emperor brought home his mistress. It felt like I was in Navier’s shoes!

This is such a well done webtoon and I'm so excited for Navier to get all of the good things she deserves in her new Kingdom and with her new husband.

Witch Creek Road

Genre: Horror

“A survival horror about love, acceptance, death, and revenge. And sexy flesh-eating demons. Yeah, it has those, too.”

This series seriously mind fucked me. The way that this story is set up, you don’t see the full picture until the later chapters. Season two literally blew my mind. It is also very gorey so keep that in mind if you don’t like that kind of stuff, but for me that makes it all the better. It is just so wild and crass that you can feel your heart pumping in anticipation.

They even have their own website that goes further into the lore because it’s just so wild. Also the art style is just so amazing, because it complements the story and horror theme so much. You hate most of the characters because they suck, and it is so satisfying when they are killed. Also it has it’s sad moments but I think it is a nice break from the horror so it isn’t so overwhelmingly scary.

I binged this series and I recommend reading only a few chapters a day so you don’t overload your brain.

Other then that, an amazing webtoon. Seriously, go read it, support the author, so much work goes into the story and art that it’s insane.

Dating With A Tail

Oh my gosh this is just such a good webtoon. It has amazing art, story telling, and characters. The true love interest was there the whole time, the villain isn’t who you’d expect it to be, and the spirit who cursed her is just! Im not going to spoil it but go read this webtoon!! It is so good and deserves more love.

Also Yunha is just so relatable?? Like she put off finding the woodcutter (her fated love) for 29 years and waited last minute to find him. Homegirl is me trying to do a project for school. Also to get rid of the scent that makes men attracted to her, she just starts eating a ton of garlic and that is just so funny to me.

Also I would go to church for the priest anytime if you know what i mean ;)

Omniscient Reader

Genre: Action

I cannot get over how high quality this story is. The world building is phenomenal, the art is fantastic, and the characters are very fleshed out. This deserved all the hype it has gotten so far and more.

I love the ‘mc thrown into a different reality’ trope so much. Just like with surviving romance, Dokja’s world became the story he was reading. Also a very cool aspect of the story is the level up and the fact that its like a game. Earth has turned into this show for god like creatures to watch and it follows Dokja trying to survive. I also really like that TWSA has a protagonist, but Omniscient Reader’s protagonist is not the protagonist that was in TWSA. There is just so much lore and I’ll say it again, the world building is just phenomenal.

The Ddokkaebi’s and Dokja’s interactions are also just some of my favorite moments from the story so far. And oh my goodness I would die for Lee Gilyoung. Thats it, thats the tweet. That little boy could probably kill me with his giant praying mantis and I would let him if it would make him happy.

Not So Shoujo Love Story

Genre: Comedy

This is just such a cute webtoon. The style is very appealing and while the humor can be childish and weird sometimes, it still has made me laugh a lot. I know the humors not for everyone but just keep in mind that it does get better as the story progresses and gets more serious.

Also its a gl! I’m really unable to find good gls these days that don’t fetishize wlw relationships. Rei being painted as a mean trouble maker whos just misunderstood and Hana being the ‘perfect girl’ who only wants Rei’s attention is such a cute dynamic. They balance each other out and better each other. Also stan Rei for constantly sticking up for Hana even if she doesn’t necessarily like her in the beginning, she has very good morals and sticks to them.

Also the defying stereotypes in this webtoon? Just god-tier. Really makes you think twice when you judge someone just on first impressions alone.

Odd Girl Out

Genre: Drama

This story has made me cry multiple times. A lot, even. It is just such a beautiful tale of friendship and finding support in people who are unlike those around theme. It also tells a great story about how anybody can be the ‘odd girl out’. Be it the fat girl, the beautiful girl, the rich girl, or the laid back girl.

It goes so deep into its characters that you even feel bad for the minor antagonists. It really makes you feel for the characters and the reasons behind their actions. Also I know its long, believe me I binged all 260 chapters in the span of three days, but oh my god it is worth it. Also I know the art is kind of off-putting, in fact that’s kind of why I put off reading the story, but I’ve honestly grown to love it and the writing is so good that the art could be literal stick figures and it wouldn’t matter.

The story is amazing and also I just love Nari. She’s just the best.

Gremoryland

Genre: Horror

This is definitely one of those stories were you kind of need to turn of your brain and choose to ignore ‘plot holes’ while reading the early chapters because this story definitely gets crazy if you don’t know the ending. Believe me if you stick with it it will all make sense and the satisfaction you get from finding the ending is just so worth it.

The story is so good, and who Gremory is you would literally never suspect. When it was revealed who Gremory was and how he was able to create Gremoryland is so fucking mind boggling that you would never guess. I had to do a double take. It wasn’t like one of those random characters with a vendetta type of twists, but like one you can pick out from clues throughout the story.

Its so good and twisted and just so worth at least giving it a chance.

Psycho Analysis: Pennywise (2010s duology)

(WARNING! This analysis contains SPOILERS!)

27 years after the miniseries adaptation, a new adaptation of Stephen King’s It came along, and with it, a new Pennywise the Dancing Clown. As hit or miss as the miniseries was, pretty much everyone is in agreement that Tim Curry’s fantastic, hilarious performance is the one bright spot of that version, meaning anyone who would be playing Pennywise in the new version would have some pretty big clown shoes to fill.

Thankfully new Pennywise Bill Skarsgard is 6’4” tall, a size that is most certainly big enough to fill any size clown shoes his predecessor may have left. His performance is a fantastic new take on an iconic character, and while it certainly does have weaker elements to it (as Curry’s did), there’s still more to love than there is to hate.

Actor: Bill Skarsgard portrays Pennywise this time, and while he is quite obviously no Tim Curry, he most definitely is a Bill Skarsgard. I love everything he brings to this role: his intimidating height, his creepy voice, that weird thing he does with his eyes… in the same manner in which Curry brought his Pennywise to life with the voice and mannerisms of a charming kid’s show host, Skarsgard brings his Pennywise to life with the mannerisms of an alien beast that can only just barely put forth a front of normalcy as it hunts its prey, and because of this he manages to make Pennywise utterly terrifying.

Motivation/Goals: Pennywise’s motivation is the same as it always is: he comes around every 27 years to eat children, opting to spice them up with a healthy dose of fear before going in for the kill. Frankly, in this regard he is really no different from the Tim Curry version or the book version, though he does opt to do things in a more overtly sinister manner than the other two incarnations, and when it comes time for him to harass the adult Losers in Chapter Two, while he does opt for some jokes here and there, he mostly remains creepy and disturbing the whole time.

Personality: This take on Pennywise is actually quite interesting, as compared to the Tim Curry one, this one is actually legitimately terrifying… to a fault. He is so utterly monstrous that a lot of the time it’s hard to believe he could ever sucker children in to being his victims, with Georgie’s death being a prime example – Pennywise is so absolutely creepy to the point of salivating over the thought of eating Georgie that the kid nearly runs before he gets within biting range. He’s pretty light on the jokes too, but frankly I don’t see that as a big minus; I like that this Pennywise is creepier and legitimately unnerving.

Final Fate: This is where the Skarsgard version truly has the Curry one beat; instead of turning into a giant, awful stop-motion spider, Skarsgard’s Pennywise turns into a giant clown drider and tries to kill the Losers. While he manages to get Eddie in the final confrontation, the remaining members all band together and… basically just insult him until he shrinks down and they can rip his heart out. When I said this has Curry’s beat, I never said it was perfect, after all. At the very least a green glow post death implies that Matarin was helping the gang, and Pennywise seems definitively dead in this continuity, so at least this goofy finale leads into a happy ending.

Best Scene: Much like Curry, Skarsgard has no shortage of fantastic scenes to pick from, with my personal favorite being when he unfolds from the fridge to attack Eddie in the first movie. However, objectively speaking, I think Skarsgard’s most definitive moment is his insane little jig he does to try and weird out Beverly, which went absolutely memetic after the film released. Of course, what the memes don’t tell you is when Beverly does not respond to his goofy dance, he peels back his face and shows her his deadlights, causing one of the most wonderful mood whiplashes I have ever seen in any film ever.

Honestly, I do find it kind of amusing the funnier Pennywise got a best moment where he was actually scary, while the scarier Pennywise got a best moment where he was actually pretty funny.

Best Quote: Unlike Curry, I don’t feel like Skarsgard was really a goldmine of quotes. Still, he gets some good bits in where they count, such as when he feigns hurt feelings at Bill for not thinking his scares are “real” enough. However, I think his taunting of Richie over his closeted gay desires, complete with a goofy little song, is his best bit for just how many lines it ends up crossing before finally landing on darkly hilarious:

“Did ya miss me, Richie? 'Cos I've missed you! No one wants to play with the clown anymore. Play a game with me, would ya? How about Street Fighter? Oh, yes, you like that one, don't you? Or maybe Truth or Dare? Oh, you wouldn't want anyone to pick Truth though, would you, Richie? You wouldn't want anyone to know what you're hiding. I know your secret! Your dirty little secret! Oh, I know your secret! Your DIRTY little secret! Shall I tell them, Richie?”

Final Thoughts & Score: Skarsgard’s take on Pennywise is a take I just love. I love the weird quirks and mannerisms Skarsgard brought to the table, such as the eye thing his Pennywise does or the weir contortions and gestures and faces. I also love just how menacing and disturbing his Pennywise is, something that I felt was especially lacking in Curry’s performance; while Curry was certainly funny and had superb line delivery, he just couldn’t muster up a single shiver from me the way Skarsgard’s take on Stephen King’s monster clown did.

So, of course, I give him a 10/10. It really helps Skarsgard didn’t have a finale half as bad as Curry’s Pennywise did, and he did manage to be genuinely amusing in Chapter 2, though certainly not to the extent Curry’s Pennywise was. He’s an enjoyable take that, while not as entertaining in persona and comedy, is definitely a fun watch in terms of horror and sheer sadistic glee. It’s sort of a Heath Ledger’s Joker to the Jack Nicholson Joker that Curry’s take was: two excellent, valid performances of the same character that are great for different reasons.

But here’s the thing: they aren’t perfect. Out of all of Stephen King’s villains, Pennywise is one of the ones that could easily be an 11 out of 10. He’s iconic, he’s entertaining, he’s a big figure in pop culture and has inspired numerous monster clowns and eldritch abominations since his inception… and yet, every time the character has been put to screen so far, there is just something missing, that secret essence that King tapped into in his book that managed to make Pennywise equal parts darkly comic and unrelentingly monstrous. As far as adaptations go, these facets of Pennywise have been split into two performances, and if we ever got them in one performance, we’d have the definitive Pennywise that I could safely say is one of the greatest cinematic villains ever.

For now, we’re at least fortunate to be stuck with two great, unique takes on It. Let’s see how they do him justice 27 years from now in the next adaptation.

You looked at yourself through the broken mirror shard, no real reaction. You and North had talked a while longer before Markus came and found you, bringing you to a place just outside Jericho. So now you were both on the top floor in an open area to the snowing sky above, putting down the glass you looked at Markus as he walked over to the piano.

He picked up the two chairs that were next to it, dusting them off and setting them up in front of the piano, then turning to you.

“Care to play, for old times sake?”

You smile up at him, standing you walk over and sit next to him, you sat on the very right side of the piano, him sitting on the left. Just like you had some many times before, but now... it was different now. Both of you were different.

For a moment, you both just sat there with your hands over the keys, almost like you were thinking of what to play. 

“I want you to lead, Y/n.”

Markus’ sudden voice made you jump a bit, you looked at him tilting your head to the side.

“Me? Why?”

“Carl once told me that when you play piano, your feelings drift to the tips of your fingers and it makes you play whatever is in your heart.”

You look back at the keys, looking at your fingertips that were gently laying on the black and white keys.

“Y/n can you do something for me?”

“Anything.”

“Close your eyes while you play.”

You remember that this was the same thing Carl asked Markus to do, you didn’t question it any more than he did as you close your eyes.

“Now, play what you feel, not what you think you should. I’ll play the supporting notes, but this will be for you.”

You nod, putting your hand up to the keys, then...

You played.

The song was a mix of feelings, it was mostly somber but there were moments in it that held hope. It was a rollercoaster of feelings, and Markus knew that was what you had been feeling for the past few days. 

So confused and yet you knew what was happening, you knew what you were feeling but there was just one part of you the refused to see it. The longer you struggled with your instructions and your emotions, it became harder and harder for Markus to understand why you held on to them.

He watched you, with your eyes gently shut as you let your hands drift where ever they needed, your nails tapping on the keys every so often, and it was small moments like this that Markus realized he couldn’t lose you... not ever.

Soon, your hands came to a stop, your eyes fluttering open by the end of the notes, taking your hands away from the keys. You felt like you were in a daze after those moments, but you were quickly knocked out of your daze when Markus stood up and walked on to the edge of a plank, you slowly stood up too.

For a moment, you both just embraced the silence, looking out onto the snow fallen city of Detroit, you once again lift your hands to catch some of the snowflakes that were falling.

The wonders of earth’s beauties never stopped amazing you... it was very disappointing that they were fading...

To distract your heart from those saddening thoughts, you asked Markus a question you had been wondering since you got up here.

“Why did you bring me up here?... I’d thought that with everything that has happened, that maybe you’d want to be alone.”

“I needed to think...” Was his answer, he turned his head to you, giving you a short-lived smile. “and I always think better with you around.”

“You do realize that doesn’t really make much sense, right?”

He chuckles, walking back from the edge and sitting down in the old love seat.

“Does it have to?”

“I suppose not...” Cupping your hands in front of you, you thought that now would be as good a time as any to review what North told you.

“We freed hundreds of our people, and they’re still coming from all over the city... Those who dream of freedom come to Jericho... Things are changing...”

Looking over to Markus, you see him with his elbows on his knees, head down.

“... And I know you well enough to know something else is on your mind...”

“They all obey us, they follow you and me without question...”

You hum and turn back to look at the city, you knew what he meant by it.

“And that much power feels good... and scary... at the same time...”

Looking back at Markus, you nod.

“In all honesty, I’m more scared than I am proud of the power we hold... Now that we're leaders, lives are in our hands, Markus... All the media are talking about what we did last night, the humans are terrified... they are afraid of a civil war... and I can’t say I’m not scared of that either.”

Markus watched you pace before him, he could almost see all the thoughts going through your head. Now that he was deviant and could see things for how they really are, the once logical thinking you had now turned to overthinking.

“Many of our people were burned in response to what happened... I know there wasn’t much we could have done, seeing as we didn’t expect it... but I had hoped...”

Closing your eyes and letting your head drop, you give yourself a moment to think before speaking to Markus again.

“Our people are getting skeptical, Markus... They think all humans hate us, and that we won’t get our freedom...”

Markus puts his hands together and shakes his head while looking up at you from his spot.

“If the humans won’t listen, we’ll fight.”

“You can’t honestly think those are our only two options...”

Markus stood and walked in front of you, he reached for you but you stepped back.

“Y/n, if they don’t give us a choice...”

“So what? We give up on all our reason and go to war and get thousands of innocent lives in the crossfire? Is that it? Have you forgotten already where you came from? Have you forgotten all the kindness we both have been shown?”

You covered your mouth and closed your eyes, you had never truly risen your voice before, especially not at Markus. He was a bit taken back by your tone of voice, he wasn’t upset with you at all, actually, he wanted you to keep going...

This meant you were speaking your mind.

You, on the other hand, were desperately trying to calm down. Warnings of overheating and Thirium Pump anomalies were appearing in the corner of your vision, you also saw blocks of glitchy, red instructions start covering your view.

You didn’t want to raise your voice at Markus, but it kinda felt... good. Like it was the first time in your life that you truthfully spoke your mind, of course, there was something still blocking you from fully speaking your mind... you knew what it was...

“Y/n... I know you want to see the good in everyone, but we can’t afford to believe that.”

“So we give up on peace that fast? Markus, all it takes is one voice to speak out. Would Carl want you to turn so quickly?”

“Y/n...” He sighed, something he noticed he was doing more and more after coming to Jericho. He understood your reasoning and in all honesty, he wanted every part of himself to believe that could work, but other parts of him told him he needed to think more about his people.

“You’re reasoning is a nice one, but you have to think of our people first before morals.”

You scuff, your face turning sour as you turn away from him, it was getting harder and harder to calm yourself down the more Markus spoke of these things.

“When did you start justifying murder?!”

“We have to show them that we are willing to fight for our freedom!”

“And I agree,” You turn to him, brows frowned and eyes full of feelings. You were confused and angry, frustrated and above all else...

Scared.

“I never said we shouldn’t fight for our freedom. All I’m saying is that if we spill blood... when will it end? There will always be someone to take the next one's place. We have to learn how to forgive, Markus, before its too late or soon enough... we will be generations down and they will have forgotten what we were fighting for.”

The long stare you both held was strong and filled with constriction, both of you knew how the other felt, you knew what they were thinking, but neither of you was truly going to give in anytime soon. Markus shook his head and turned back to the city, you walked up beside him and turned him by his arm to look back at you.

“... Where did all this darkness come from, Markus?”

Without having to say a word, he held up his hand. You hesitated before remembering it was Markus, then copied his motion, your hand on his as the skin disappeared from your hands. The glowing blue on your palms and knuckles was familiar and comforting, but the thing that disturbed you the most was what came next.

As Markus held eye contact with you, he sent his memories into your eyes.

You first saw the day you and Markus had been together shopping at the plaza before the party, you were seeing through his eyes. At this moment, you had a perfect view of yourself across from him, on the ground. This was the moment you were kicked in the face and the moment you got your scar. At that moment, you saw the same flashing red, blocky instructions as you had been getting recently. The memory then switched.

This one was you both at the party, you standing next to Aeron and Markus, in this case, was next to Carl. You couldn't hear anything, but you remember this being the moment Aeron and Carl got into a discussion with some patrons about you. You were wearing your fancy uniform at that party, per Aeron's request. This uniform was not like your other ones, it was like a dress.

In any case, the next moment you remember very very well. With Aeron and Carl distracted with one patron, another one slid up behind you and was feeling you up. At first, it wasn’t as bad as it could have been, you watched yourself through Markus’ eyes slowly look over at the man, your LED blinking red. The red blocks appeared in the vision again as the man's hand went farther and farther up your leg and under your uniform, to the point he almost flipped it all the way up.

That was when you watched as Markus must have said something to Aeron, who turned quickly and made a big scene. You honestly thought it was chance that Aeron turned, you had been so focused on trying to get the man to go away that you didn’t know Markus was the one who told Aeron. After the man was kicked out, the party went on and you and Markus spoke freely to each other before Aeron said he had had enough bullshit for one night and you and he left.

Then... a new scene appeared, one you knew would have come up.

You watched as the scene skipped, showing the finding of Leo in Carl’s studio, packing up some of his paintings. That’s when Leo suddenly started pushing Markus, insulting him while Carl told him to do nothing. The instructions at first were clear, but the more hits he took, the more the instructions changed, saying it wasn’t fair. It was then when all your vision was covered in red for a moment, and when it cleared, it showed Carl on the floor beside his unconscious son. The scene skipped until the police showed up, they were pointing guns at Markus, who had slowly put his hands up...

Then it all went black.

You knew what happened after that...

But then you saw the junkyard, albeit glitchy and static at first, but you saw it all. You saw how broken he really was... But one thing stood out the most.

Though Markus still had his main instructions of what he wanted to do... a small optional task was always there, getting bigger and bigger, then going back to small, only to grow in size again.

The optional task was...

Find Y/n

You pulled away from Markus quickly, he did the same. You both looked at each other, both at a loss for words.

Markus had shown you all the pain, frustration, anger, and fear he held for humanity. He showed you all that he couldn’t stop humans from doing, the things he wished he could have stopped. He showed you all the ugliness, all the cruelty in the world that the humans forced him to see.

But you...

The first memory that was shown to Markus was... overwhelming, there was a clear difference between how you saw the world, and how Markus did. Your vision was so clear, filled with color and detail, though it was just a memory, Markus felt like he could see anything and everything.

After a moment of getting past the incredible detail of your vision, Markus then saw Kamski, and a Chloe standing behind him. Kamski was helping you out of the machine that creates the androids, Markus watching from your eyes he saw Kamski teach you how to walk. For obvious reasons, it didn’t take long for you to learn, then Kamski said something to you, something that made you run to the door of the room and see the brightness of the world. 

The scene then changed to when you first met Aeron, who at the moment didn’t look pleased with Kamski. But your attention drifted to the garden you were in, as you walked over to the koi fish pond, kneeling and dipping your hand in. The koi fish brushed against your hand, almost like you were petting it, then your attention turned to the garden. All the color of Aeron’s garden showing up perfectly. the detail on each flower was amazing. Every now and then, Markus could see the screen quickly go dark as you took pictures. The scene ended with you quickly turning around to see only Aeron standing there, smiling at you.

The next scene was something Markus remembers, but very different. You were next to the hedge, peeking over and watching Markus, he didn’t even know you were even taking pictures of him. He then saw himself turn around and look at you, but you quickly ducked behind the hedge to hide. Markus knew what was going to happen next as you stood back up and looked over in search of him, only to see nothing. He watched you scan the yard for a moment before popping up from behind the hedge, making you let out a tiny adorable squeak. Markus watched himself smile down at you, he remembered the shocked look on your face and the blinking red and yellow LED on your temple as you looked at him. But then you soon smiled back, LED turning back to a sky blue, slowly getting up from the ground.

That was the first time you and Markus met...

The last scene was something he found himself thinking about a lot, it was when you two met up at night and connected. He could almost feel everything all over again, and he wished he could feel that bliss forever. 

As the scene faded out and you both jumped away from each other, Markus noticed that through all of those memories, he never once saw the flashing red blocks that he had. He saw all the beauty you saw in the world, and he finally understood why you kept your programming.

You didn’t keep it because you wanted it, you kept it because you are afraid of losing sight of everything beautiful in the world...

“Is... is that really how you see the world, Y/n?”

The question was vague, but you knew what he was talking about so you nodded, blinking your eyes at Markus.

“I didn’t know... that you...” Pausing you tried to still your fast-beating heart. “I’m so sorry Markus if I had known I’d...”

“You keep your program because you’re afraid of losing sight of what is good...”

You again nod, head falling down.

“But Y/n... do you know why I want you to get rid of it so bad?”

Looking up, you watched Markus walk over to you, once again connecting your hands, though this time it was just feelings. His feelings for you.

“Because... if a human gets you and... I’m scared I’ll lose you. I have always felt something for you, before and now, I feel for you. It’s just that before... I didn’t have a name for it... but now I do.”

Markus then kisses your forehead, leaning his forehead on yours while maintaining eye contact.

“I love you, Y/n... and I don’t think I could live on without you by my side...”

You were finally at a loss for words, you wanted to say it back so badly.... yet something was stopping you.

And you knew what it was...

You opened your mouth to try and speak, but Markus stopped you and pulled away, smiling at you.

“We still have work to do, miss leader, are you ready?”

You smiled.

“Ready as I’ll ever be.”

“This is suicide.”

“Well, that is certainly a positive viewpoint, now isn’t it, North.”

You realized that your attempt to lighten the mood may have made it worse, but hey, North was the only one not smiling at your words. 

You were standing on the left of Markus, Josh standing on your left as well. North stood on Markus’ right and Simon was next to her. All of you had changed outfits and were now ready than ever...

But you had to slightly agree with North as you played with the long cloth of your hood... this could go bad.

“We’ll all be killed! Please, Y/n, Markus, it’s not too late to change your minds.”

Josh looked at her, scuffing and shaking his head.

“You don’t understand... we’re finally gonna show them who we really are. This place will go down in history.”

“Pretty sure it already has, at this point...”

Markus and Simon were really the only two who heard your comment, Simon gave you a small smile, but Markus was too focused on turning his head back and forth between the two arguing. 

Before North went to speak again, he turned his head to you, only to be met with a not so amused look in your face. 

He was a leader just like you, he shouldn’t just be watching infighting between his main allies like he was watching TV... though a tiny part of you will admit that it was.... a little fun watching your friends cat fight.

“We’ll be killed on the spot!”

“That’s a risk I’m prepared to take if it means freedom for our people.”

North turns to you and Markus.

“Markus... Y/n, please don’t do this...”

Markus looks at her, then you then looks forward.

“They’ll understand... We’ll make them understand.”

You then walk an stand in front of the group, they all looked at you with patient eyes and you smile at them all.

“This is the only way, so let's get to work.”

“There are androids here who could join us... The more we are the stronger our message”

Simon pointed out, Markus and you walking around freeing them from there programs. 

You guys happened to walk by a man and woman talking, they were presumably a couple, and the woman was fairly convinced that the man would like to eye up the android she has more than hanging out with her. 

“So what? You slipped and both hands landed on her tits?”

You heard a few snorts behind you, and looking back you see Josh covering his mouth and Markus doing this weird mouth thing, trying not to smile.

“Come on, boys. Stay with me.” 

You say, shaking your head at the giggling boys, Simon not included as he stood next to you playing with his fingers anxiously though he was smiling, and North was rolling her eyes when you all walked out of the building to the street after freeing all the androids in there.

“I hate all of you...” 

This made you giggle as North playfully glared at you all, but what you had been doing was too serious so you and Markus quickly got back to work. 

You had freed a few androids at the temporary parking and then freed an android who was standing next to some man, you were about to walk over to the working androids by the trucks when the man stopped the android.

“Hey! Where do you think you’re going?! You come back here!”

You turn and quickly walk over to them, you pushed the man's hand off the Android and stand between them.

“He has chosen to walk away from you, sir. I suggest you let him be...”

The man gave you a weird look like he was going to fight back, he looked like he was about to grab or hit you too, but then his expression suddenly turns to fear and he quickly walked away. 

You were confused, you don’t think you were being scary, but when you looked behind you it made sense. There was a group of androids you had free behind you, all glaring daggers at the man as he ran away. They must have been watching him very closely, one even tried to walk after him, but you stopped him.

“He’s not worth it...”

The android nods and you walk over to the working androids, freeing them when Markus jogged over.

“We need you to block the street...”

And that they did, Markus telling you to follow him. You walk past the truck that stopped traffic on the street, Markus then lifted a manhole and you and him both help some androids up before they started helping each other. You walk up next to Markus and look up at him, you could practically see his mind working.

“Okay, Markus, what next?”

He was silent for a moment before he looked at an android walking a baby, she at first only watched him, but then her face changed and she walked over to the group the quickly grew. 

Markus then started walking, converting androids left an right just by pointing, you assumed he was breaking their code just by connecting with them from his mind.

You walked right next to him as he did this, in awe of all that was happening. He even changed billboards to your peoples flag, and your march grew in numbers by the second. 

You silently put your hand in his, and he gave it a light squeeze, smiling at you before going back to what he was doing. You saw a police officer standing in your way, he seemed overwhelmed so he pulled out his gun.

“Hey! Disperse! DISPERSE IMMEDIATELY! THAT’S AN ORDER!” 

You all stopped walking, and you looked at Markus from the corner of your eye. You both raised your hands, and all the androids behind you raised their hands as well, the sound of all your hands lifting in the air made you smile proudly.

The man looked shocked but then pointed his gun more directly for a moment, but you all didn’t move, hands still raised. He then shakingly stepped out of the way, seeing that there was almost more than 500 of you.

You put your hands down and Markus takes hold of it again, walking hand in hand with you down the street. That was when you all started chanting.

“SET US FREE! SET US FREE! SET US FREE!!”

“WE ARE ALIVE! WE ARE ALIVE! WE ARE ALIVE!”

“WE ARE PEOPLE! WE ARE PEOPLE! WE ARE PEOPLE!”

“SET US FREE! SET US FREE! SET US FREE!”

“LIBERTY FOR ANDROIDS! LIBERTY FOR ANDROIDS!”

“NO MORE SLAVERY! NO MORE SLAVERY!”

“EQUAL RIGHTS! EQUAL RIGHTS! EQUAL RIGHTS!”

Police cars came skidding to a halt before you guys as you turn the corner, a helicopter flew above you and a team of armed, shielded riot officers came flooding out of trucks. You stop next to Markus, you dropped his hand in favor of your own, it felt like your heart dropped to your feet.

You all stopped walking a few hundred feet away from them, then Markus spoke to them.

“We came here to demonstrate peacefully and tell humans that we are living beings.”

“All we want is to live free.” You chimed in, watching a man get a megaphone.

“This is an illegal gathering. Disperse immediately or we will open fire.”

Your eyes go wide, even the idea of guns brings bad memories, but you then whisper to your group.

“We haven’t done anything wrong... Humans have done this many times before...”

“We aren’t humans...”

Norths comment made you look at her, but she was glaring at the scene before her, then Markus spoke again.

“We’re not looking for confrontation. We’ve done no harm, we have no intention of doing any... But know that we are not going anywhere until we have secured our freedom.”

Your hands started shaking as you listened, and something in your instructions was changing...

Follow Markus?

“I repeat, this is an illegal gathering. If you do not disperse immediately, we will shoot!”

“Markus, Y/n, they’re gonna kill us...” 

Norths comment did nothing to still your fast-beating heart or calm the doubts in your mind.

“We have to attack! There’s more of us we can take them!”

“If we attack, we’ll start a war. We have to show them we’re not violent.”

Josh was right in that if you attack now, the humans will no longer consider you anywhere near negotiable.

“We should just stand our ground, even if it means dying here.”

F̷o̷l̶l̶o̴w̶ ̴M̶a̸r̶k̷u̴s̶?̴?̴?̴

“Dying here won’t solve anything.” Simon cut in. “Y/n, Markus, we need to go now. Before it’s too late.”

You then see one of the officers with a shield kneel down, and another pointed a gun right at your group, and it felt like the blue blood in your veins froze.

“This is your last chance! Disperse immediately or you will all be killed!”

“We have to show them we won’t back down. We stay right here.”

???F̸̼͋0̴̫̀̂1̵͔̂͝1̵̗͕͊0̷̢̫̾ŵ̷̘͑ ̵̼͉̈M̷̮͠4̶̫̈́r̶̟̿̚ͅk̶̠̀ṵ̸̰̕5̶̹̱̇͑ ̴͎̓???

Your eyes go wide as you can see every frame of each bullet pass you, turning, you see a few androids fall. The glitching red blocks started appearing with almost unreadable instructions, and you look up at Markus with wide eyes and frowned brows.

“Markus...”

“DISPERSE! THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE!”

“We have to make a statement. We have to stay put no matter what.”

“Please, Markus. We can't let them slaughter us without fighting back!”

“Markus... we should go. Now.”

You had a feeling this was not going to end well if you stayed, so you were at this point begging him to go. Your vision was not getting any clearer by the second, in fact, it was getting worse.

“We’re not moving.”

More bullets whizzed past you killing more of your people, one even grazed your side while another grazed Markus’ arm. Your vision was almost pure red now, you grabbed onto the back of Markus’ shirt.

“Markus! What are you doing!? They’re gonna kill us all!”

“Y/n?”

Markus looks at you over his shoulder, gently moving your hand off his back.

“Stay here.”

Your eyes widen as it seemed time was slowing down when he walked forward when suddenly it all stopped. Time froze, and here you stood, in front of the wall of instructions. Markus on the other side, walking straight to death, and your instructions said to stay there. 

Don’t move

This was it, you thought, tears quickly falling down your face in real time. 

And so you banged on the wall, you punched it over and over, making huge cracks until finally...

The wall fell, breaking into pieces. 

Time moved again and you saw the soldiers get ready to shoot... You ran forward and pulled the back of Markus’ hood, pushing a hand on his chest and pushing him back in mere seconds.

Unfortunately for you, you didn't have time to move the both of you.

The bullet hit right below the right side of your collar, your hood falling off as you fell to the ground. The group you had been leading stood in silence, backing up only a little bit as you went on your knees facing the soldiers.

Markus was in shock, laying on the ground from where you had pushed him to, he watched as you were strong enough to look to the soldiers and speak.

“... Don’t you see what you have become?! What fear has done to you?!”

You put your hand over the blue blood of the wound on your chest and hold up the blue covered hand.

“We may not bleed the same color.... but we bleed just as you do! For so long I didn’t know who I was!! I was scared to be alive but I realize now that... that I...”

Tears fell faster from your E/C eyes, and the last part you screamed.

“I’M SCARED TO LIVE BUT I’M SCARED TO DIE!! PLEASE! YOU MUST UNDERSTAND-”

You were cut off by another bullet hitting you in the knee, successfully making you fall face first on the ground. You were now on your elbows as you looked up at the soldiers who were ordered over to you, and you looked up at them with pained, scared, and begging eyes.

“Please... I want to live....”

They didn’t even have a chance to point their guns at you as Markus came over and jumped them, knocking the guns out of their hands and stealing one of their shields. 

Soon enough, the androids who were left made a wall with their bodies, protecting you and Markus from the incoming bullets. North stole another shield as Markus handed his shield to Josh, he then picked you up with ease.

“Markus...”

“Not here.”

Though there weren’t many left, the androids who were left linked arms and kept the wall between you and the soldiers, protecting you the whole way around the corner and out of sight of the cops. Even as you made your way back to Jericho, the androids, North, Josh, and Markus were protecting you.

“You’re pacing again.”

“Can you blame me?”

“I suppose not, but worrying isn’t going to give us answers fast, you know.”

“You could have died, Y/n, take this seriously!”

Markus gave you a stern look, while an android finished up his repairs on your knee. You roll your eyes and the android quietly announced you were better and gave you two jugs of blue blood. You shake your head, taking half of one then giving both back. 

“There are others who need it more than me, but thank you, dear.”

He nods and before he leaves you kiss his cheek, his face noticeably changed to a light shade of blue as he shyly smiles at the ground, walking away quickly, flustered.

You stand and turn to Markus, crossing your arms just like him.

“You could have died too, Markus... I can’t see you die again...”

Markus sighs, sliding a hand over his head as he turns his back to you, then turns back crossing his arms and leaning on a nearby table.

“... You broke through your program.”

It was your time to sigh as you sat back down on the workbench, hugging your arms to your chest as you give a not very convincing smile.

“That I did...”

“So, how do you feel?”

You ‘breathe’ in, a smile on your face.

“I feel like I can finally breathe... I don’t have anyone telling me what to do.” You smirk at Markus. 

“And that amount of power feels good... and terrifying at the same time... I just found out what life really feels like Markus, I learned how to breathe but... we got a lot of our people killed today...”

“I know... I wanted to believe that it would go better... but you were right, Y/N.”

You frowned your brows at him as he walked to stand in front of you.

“All it takes is one person to speak up... Aeron was there, you know.”

Your eyes get wide and panic immediately rushes your mind as you jump off the bench, standing chest to chest with Markus who took your hands.

“I already know what you are thinking, and no... he wasn’t the one hurt...”

“Wasn’t the one hurt? What... what do you mean?”

“He brought a group of protesters too... Human protesters... three of them got shot by mischarged bullets...”

Your face immediately drains to sadness as you walk past Markus, a hand covering your mouth and tears burning your eyes, but you blink them away as Markus speaks again.

“None of them died, thankfully, but one good thing did come out of what happened.”

“Yeah?”

“Public opinion skyrocketed, especially after Aeron shared the pictures he had taken to the press and the news.”

“So... they're sympathetic?”

Markus smiles.

“More than that, they’re supporting us.”

You started to get what he was saying.

“Okay, but... supportive in what way?”

“... Come with me.”

You take Markus’ open hand and he guides you into the main room, and you see the medical ‘rooms’ but you also see... weapons... a lot of weapons.

“Markus...”

“I know, I know... hopefully, we won’t need them... but a group of humans tried contacting us and sent this our way, saying that we should have a means of defense as well.”

You watch as Androids set up projectors playing the news, some were helping those who were broken down or shot from today or just getting here. Jericho had truly become a refuge for androids, watching them all working together and respecting each other was heartwarming, to say the least.

You sigh, leaning on the railing of the second floor you two were on, watching the androids below.

“You know, a human man once said: ‘It is the very mark of the spirit of rebellion to crave for happiness in this life’... I think he was right... Markus... I can’t help but feel like... Our story is coming to an end...”

“Yeah, I... know what you mean...”

“Are you scared?”

“Yes... you?”

“Always... they depend on us, Markus... We are their leaders, we can’t let them down.”

While still holding your hand, Markus looks over the rails at all the people working.

“Then we’d best get started helping them now... Oh, and Y/n?”

“Yes?”

Autumn—Sunday Chats (10-1-17)

Fall has finally arrived, and boy do video games just not stop.

Podcast Train Stop

I’m curious if anyone else has tun into the issue where their podcast rotation just stops? I’ve basically stopped listening to all my podcasts except for My Brother, My Brother and Me. I am not sure why, but I’ve fallen off of all of the GiantBomb Podcasts, any other video game podcast, except for really The Easy Allies podcast. Of the group, that one that I’ve gotten into the most recently still sticks with me for whatever reason.

Maybe it’s the want to not listen to hours-long podcast recently? Which is odd because I usually binge many podcasts together back to back. I think the most likely answer is that I had fallen behind and then not been able to catch up. 

This is unfortunate though because podcasts are typically my main source of news and now I am getting a little aloof with the gaming news. But I still manage to keep up thanks to the show I help host!

Has this ever happened to any of you? What do you do, try and listen to all the episodes you missed or just jump right back in?

What’s on Tap

Danganronpa V3

This is the big one. Consuming most of my time like Danganronpa is ought to do. 

It’s very good y’all.

Danganronpa has a great talent of building off of its predecessors in completely unorthodox ways, essentially carrying forward concepts but in logical ways so it doesn’t seem like all of the characters are jumping to conclusions based on nothing. It just seems like this different group of people decided to take a wildly different approach. Chunsoft then ties that to the personalities and style of those same characters, and it’s a brilliant mix-mash of those intelligent designs.

These games always play with my expectations and take me by surprise, but boy... this one really is messing with me.

Not only that, they’re using loss in a way that is even more emotional and moving then it has been before, which for me has been a first in the series. I actually got choked up after the first chapter because of how this was done.

These games are so good, and Danganronpa V3 is not a disappointment by any stretch of the imagination.

Destiny 2

Finished the raid this past week, and hopefully soon will be finishing it with my original team.

We’ve run into plenty of trouble, but I know we have it in us to knock it out.

Metroid Samus Returns

Uh, y’all? It’s still so good.

Got to some of the new and added stuff to the game and it was absolutely phenomenal. 

Very tense, very cool, and very, very fun. I love it.

So, real quick, as I was going through questions, I noticed a ton of SNES-classic related questions, which reminds me I’ve been playing that too! Let me insert that real quick...

SNES Classic

It’s so cute!

This is the one I wanted, I got it, I’m v happy.

So I jumped right into Zelda A Link to the Past and played through the opening, and it’s still wonderful.

It’s fun playing on an OG SNES controller, though I do really like the classic controller form the Wii Era. The original too, not the pro, because you get a little best of both worlds.

The big one I sank the most time into was actually Super Mario RPG. It’s been so long since I played that that it’s basically a whole new game for me. Plus, I was a kid, and had no clue what the hell was happening. It’s been super funny and super fun to really see that game with fresh eyes for the first time ever.

Okay, back to questions.

Yay! I didn’t know this!

I’d say I am at about an 8.5. I really like the Jackbox games, and they’re especially fun to get a new one before ExtraLife, when we have a ton of people watching a stream and also a ton of people in the room. With the streaming improvements from JBPP3, I think this one is gonna be pretty stellar. Curious to see what games are in there. Hopefully a Quiplash 3!

This is a very gross question Tyler, not because of the subject, but because you narrowly refer to a character as a “bubble butt baddie” which, at the end of the day, I don’t even know what that narrows it down to? Like, who qualifies for that?

I dunno, but the one answer that came to mind was Miranda from Mass Effect 2.

Oh man this is a pretty good question. I never really got into Costume Quest, which, I know, is sacrilegious to say, but it’s true. The text speed was too fast? I know, dumb complaint, but I’m a terrible reader, so I couldn’t keep up.

Anyway, I’d like to think I’d either turn into some kind of lame superhero, or just straight up Banjo and Kazooie. I don’t know why, but that’s the first thing that came to my head...

Here’s the deal, there is no correct way to play video games. Full stop. You can take your time and savor something, but you can also rush through something and savor it too. Like, I played Persona 5 at what I considered to be a slow pace, because folks like Nabeshin beat it before me, because I wanted to “savor it”. That being said, I still beat it in 2 and a half weeks, and 103 hours split into two and a half weeks is still a whole lotta hours per week. But neither of us played it “wrong”.

Like, folks that get qualified as “casual” are going to be seen as the ones that play it slower, but it’s likely because they have other things they need to do. Like sleep. And eat. I don’t do these things! At least not regularly! 

On the subject of Destiny 2 specifically, I think it does have minimal post-game content, mainly the Raid, the Nightfall, and Trials of the Nine. Which, like, still seems like more than the original, to be fair? There are hidden exotic quests too, and I have a feeling as we roll into Iron Banner this month, there will still be plenty for folks to do after they’ve finished the game. But ultimately the folks that charged through to 280 in the first weekend knew exactly what they were doing and got themselves into that situation. I just started up my third and final character on Destiny 2, so getting that guy up to 280 is going to be a fun trip for me still.

I dunno, there isn’t a right answer to this i think. But power through games or savor them however you like, because I think you’re the best judge of how fast or how slow you should play a game. Plus, you’ll probably put a different amount of time into a given game depending on how you feel about it, so I get it either way.

Also, it has taken me the full twenty minutes since I screen grabbed this to now when I am typing this answer to form the line “ready to smash” in my head, and I hate me, and you, and everything.

November is right around the corner. And you know what that means?

Motherfucking Gingerbread Latte.

Aww yay! Favorite month! A lot of folks love October too because they’re into that cool spooky fog feeling! Which is rad, I am not, personally, but I do like the silly Halloween aesthetic. I just don’t like actual scary stuff. Except the occasional scary video game. 

As for me, December is my favorite month, for similar reasons. It is the beginning of Winter, which is my favorite season (unpopular opinion, I know) and it’s also when Christmas and new years happens, and if we’re lucky, a bit of snowfall. Ideally, it just means I’m getting plenty of my hot cocoa on.

This a great question. and I think it comes down to what kind of game you want to play. Like, Earthbound is quirky, and with Undertale having just hit the PS4, maybe it’s time to get into that. Mario RPG is cool and timing based and funny, and it may be a great trip for folks who haven’t played it, or don’t remember it, like me! Final Fantasy 6 everyone keeps telling me is great but I haven’t been able to get into it. That said, it’s super traditional, so if that’s what you’re in the mood for, it’s calling. Secret of Mana has the edge because it’s an action RPG, so it’s different then all the rest. Knowing you like Tales, I’d start with that, since it may be the most fun! Also, goddamn is the music in that game great. But it is in all of these.

For me it was either Mario RPG so I could finally really truly play it, or Earthbound, which I was a bit too intimidated at the time commitment to jump into first. For you, Brendan? Try out Secret of Mana! And keep what I said about the rest in mind.

Baked Potato is the superior potato, IMHO. I really love just barely slicing open a baked potato, loading it up with cheese and butter, closing it back up, letting the cheese melt all in it, then cutting it open again, mashing it a bit, then eating it nice and chunky style. It’s a pure delight. 

Oh, and I don’t eat the outer skin, but I’ll like rip all the potato I can off the skin, and it’s amazing. I love it.

I just fucking love potatoes though. I’d eat mashed potatoes all day if I could, I just prefer baked potatoes.

Now I do want to say this tweet turned into an N64 hatefest, which I am not a fan of, I love the N64 and the PSone, that era holds something special for me. I understand its issues, and probably in the grand scheme of things, It’s the weakest of the console generations, but there are undeniably great games for those systems.

This was actually way easier than I thought it’d be. I even left out a few games that I’d have love to see on there and opted to keep the ones I really like there. I kept to the no Rare rule even for Diddy Kong Racing (better than Mario Kart 64) and DK64, even though those would definitely still make and N64 Classic. 

There are few more to shoutout too, but I’ll keep my list at my 10. Boy, looking at this I’d actually totally be down for one of these.
