— boys, girls, and everyone in between!
since their debut, yn has had everyone wrapped around her fingertips. her attractive face and charismatic personality is undeniably irresistible.
here are some moments that shows that she has boys, girls, and everyone in between goin’ crazy.
i… a youtube video about which female kpop idol is most popular amongst gay women. a guy walked around the streets, a lot of them said karina, sana, irene. but most of them said y/n.
“y/n. she’s really pretty.” “her charisma is strong.” “y/n’s so fucking sexy, and talented. it’s unbelievable.” “she’s for the girls. so guys, back off y/n.”
ii… y/n smiled as she got up on stage, happy to receive an award and to see lovely fans. “i’m-” was all she got to say before getting cut off by screaming fans, which was mostly women. “Y/N, I LOVE YOU!” a high-pitched female voice was heard from a distance. the girl winked before starting her speech.
iii… a boy hesitantly tapped her shoulders, making her turn around. “hi. sorry to bother you but my friend over there is a big fan and thinks you’re really cute.” he pointed towards another boy, who covered his face from her stare and his friends teasing words. y/n thanked them before continuing her youtube vlog. “story of my life.” she says, jokingly.
— miks says!
omg my first fic post here, not very good, i’m having writer’s block HAHAHAHA been trying to get out of it for months now. english is not my first language so bare with my writing. the way i use tenses in my writing might be confusing.
i haven’t decided which group but i wanted to make a head-start with the story.
also, i changed phones from samsung to iphone, and i was wondering what fake social media apps ya’ll recommend? the ones i used are not available for iphone 🥲

New Pinned/Intro Post!
Hi, I'm Loo(or Alex), I'm a disabled queer artist and writer as well as a furry vtuber who streams four days a week on twitch(mostly Minecraft but also Soulsborne games and a variety of other stuff).
You may know me from The Tuna Post, in which several thousand of you came together to "force" me to buy damn near 30 American Dollars worth of imported fancy canned tuna to eat and review live on stream. If you're here for it, said live review can be found on twitch and on my youtube channel. TL;DR: 10/10 would recommend.
I currently can't work, so if you like what I've got going on here and want to help me out, I take donations over on my ko-fi <3 Aside from that, follows on twitch help a lot, even if you never end up watching!
(Also, I sell my twitch emotes as stickers on redbubble!)
I don't have a proper BYF, but as a heads up I'm heavily introverted and have ADHD, and between those and my disabilities eating up my energy I often take a while to respond to messages/tags/reblogs/DMs and sometimes forget entirely. This isn't anything against you, and it's something I'm working on, but just something to keep in mind if you plan on interacting with me a lot.
FAQ:
Do you take commissions?
Not at the moment, but hopefully in the future!
What do you use for art?
Wacom Intuos tablet + Clip Studio Paint on the PC, though these days I mostly use CSP on a Samsung Galaxy Tab s6 since I can use it in bed on my low spoons days.
What do you want to go to school for?
Digital Art and American Sign Language!
You talk about being sick all the time/having health problems, what's wrong with you?
Too many things to list <3 but the most notable ones are chronic migraines, hEDS, and ADHD.
Queer?
I'm ace, bisexual, bigender, and butch. I'm also polyam but currently in a very happy monogamous relationship and don't have plans to change that. My pronouns are she/they, and while I would prefer to not have people use he/him with me you are highly encouraged to use masculine forms of address(sir, guy, dude, king, man, my guy, grandpa, dad, etc.) whenever appropriate. My assigned sex/gender at birth is none of your business.
Who's Yotsuba?
Yotsuba is an adorable little gremlin and the main character of my favorite manga, Yotsuba &!, and you should go read it right now seriously it's amazing go read it go read it GO READ IT-
What's "ask to tag"?
The tumblr equivalent of "author chose not to use archive warnings", I put it on anything that seems like it could use a trigger warning but where no one has specifically asked me to tag for that trigger yet. Things I currently (try to) tag for: flashing lights/eyestrain, insects, suicide, fatphobia/diet culture/disordered eating, my hero academia, gore/body horror, current events, us politics, politics, covid, cats, and anything nsfw goes under nsft.
I can't promise to be 100% consistent with these tho, between the ADHD and the migraines I am very forgetful, so slip ups are bound to happen.
Loo? Like the bathroom??
LOO is short for LastOneOut, I'm american and forgot people call it that, you can write it as Lou or just call me Alex if it makes you feel better.
LookingForLoo?? Like looking for the bathroom??
On websites where LastOneOut is taken I'm LookingForLoo because I'm literally looking for LOO, LastOneOut. I thought it was clever T_T
Sideblogs?
I have a nsfw alt @looafterdark (18+ only I swear to god I keep a loaded gun pointed at the follow list) and a writing inspo blog @last-scrapbook. I also once ran a couple of character ask blogs, though I don't plan on starting them up again, and I was the mod behind @pokeprofshowdown.
Who's Eugene/Ophelia/Sasha?
My ocs from an original story I'm working on. I get brainrot and post about them a lot. You are ALWAYS allowed to ask me about them!
What's your fursona/can I make art of you?
I'm a dog, kinda like a papillion but not really, and yes you may. My ref sheet is here.
Can I repost your funny text posts to twitter/insta/reddit?
Sure, all I ask is that you include the entire post and leave my username visible. You can also tag me if you want, I'm lookingforloo on twitter, insta, and reddit <3
Can I repost your art/writing?
Absolutely not.
Can I plug your art or writing into an AI program?
Absolutely not under any fucking circumstances.
Can I use your art in an amv/fandom board/as a cover for my playlist or fic/ect.?
Depends, DM me first.
Can I write fic/make fanart based on your fics/art/HCs/AUs?
Absolutely <3
Can I write fic/make fanart based on your OCs?
Art yes, fics no.
What's your stance on the discourse?
There is no amount of posting online about contentious topics that could ever match the sheer power of simply going out into your community and finding a project that helps other people that you can dedicate your time and energy to. Also wear a mask, vote(if you can), and listen to marginalized people when they speak about their experiences.
How old are you?

DRACULA: A Modern Adaptation
My script for a modern tv adaptation of Dracula, based on the novel by Bram Stoker Also on AO3
EPISODE ONE
101 TRAIN TO BISTRITZ
An aerial shot of train tracks winding through mountainous terrain. A train winding its way towards its destination; old, either early 1990s or even late 80s.
Camera zooms in; long swooping shot.
102 TRAIN CARRIAGE
A figure idly watches the landscape rolling past the window. The glass is streaky; the carriage is clean but shabby and well-worn, clearly old and very used. JONATHAN HARKER rummages inside a pant pocket and pulls out a mobile phone. Samsung Galaxy; he can’t afford an Iphone or has chosen not to purchase one. Not a trend-follower.
Camera static; shows phone screen. Static zoom cut showing the internet and cell reception bars abruptly cut out. He is on his own out here.
103 ARRIVAL AT BISTRITZ
Train shudders to a stop; Jonathan pulls his suitcase out from under his seat and follows the crowd outside onto the platform. Open-air station; very old ticket office with one window, a single bench for waiting passengers. No electronic ticket machine, no modern ads scrolling up. This station is ancient.
Jonathan spots a sign (very hard to miss) for the Golden Krone Hotel which is directly in front of him, opposite the station. He walks across the platform, looks both ways down the street before crossing – people walking by, a stray dog, a genuine horse-drawn carriage – and goes inside.
104 INT. GOLDEN KRONE HOTEL - LOBBY
Open plan hotel lobby; the dining/seating area is to the left, already packed with a modest amount of locals and travellers. The staircase to the upper floors is ahead. The small reception desk is on the right; an OLD WOMAN, one half of the establishment’s proprietors, is already lifting up a flap in the desktop and walking through, reaching Jonathan as he stops in the doorway to admire the interior of the hotel lobby (very traditional; lots of hand-carved wood and painted wallpaper).
OLD WOMAN
Are you the Englishman?
She is speaking German with a stilted fluency. It is not her first language but she knows it passably well. She is Székelys.
JONATHAN HARKER
Yes. I am Jonathan Harker.
He speaks German like a tourist. He is enunciating firmly, with an English accent. Jonathan bows suddenly, awkwardly; the woman reciprocates the gesture. She is smiling; it is an old custom to bow to women in greeting, nowadays most people shake hands. She thinks it is sweet that he has learnt the gesture.
OLD WOMAN
Room seven has been prepared for you.
Jonathan follows the woman over to the desk. She grabs a key – iron, old-fashioned, heavy – from a hook and places it in his hand as her husband appears from a door leading into a back room beside the desk.
OLD WOMAN
Dinner can be served but it is extra, my apologies.
JONATHAN
Thank you. That’s not a problem.
The woman turns to her husband. Jonathan cannot see her expression but the audience can. She is tense, but pretending that nothing is wrong.
OLD WOMAN
[in Romanian] Fetch the letter before I change my mind.
OLD MAN
[in Romanian] It’s for the best.
Jonathan has no clue what is being said. He is wearing the polite smile of a man completely out of his depth.
OLD WOMAN
[in Romanian] Just fetch it.
The man wants to speak, but it is an old argument and he closes his mouth, lets it die. He goes back into the office while Jonathan and the woman stand in awkward silence.
The man returns, handing an envelope to his wife. It is made of thick parchment, sealed with a genuine wax seal, and addressed to Jonathan. The woman slides it across the countertop, fingers pressing down on it.
She is smiling. It is clearly forced.
OLD WOMAN
This was left for you.
JONATHAN
Oh, thank you.
Jonathan tries to take the envelope but there is resistance. The woman does not want to hand the letter over. He tries to snatch it again; this time he is successful.
105 INT. GOLDEN KRONE HOTEL – DINING ROOM
Jonathan is eating a dinner of “robber steak…bacon, onion, and beef, seasoned with red pepper, and strung on sticks and roasted over the fire” with several glasses of “Golden Mediasch wine”.
He reads the opened letter as he eats; the envelope is tucked into his journal, also on the table, which is propping up the letter.
We now hear Dracula’s voice for the first time as he narrates the letter.
DRACULA
My friend, welcome to the Carpathians. I am anxiously expecting you. Sleep well tonight. At three tomorrow the coach will start for Bukovina; a place on it has been reserved for you. At the Borgo Pass my carriage will pick you up and bring you to me.
106 FADE IN – INT. GOLDEN KRONE HOTEL – ROOM SEVEN
The dining room scene fades into Jonathan packing his bag in his room the next day and tidying up his bed.
DRACULA
I trust that your journey from London has been a happy one, and that you will enjoy your stay in my beautiful land.
There is a knock on Jonathan’s hotel room. He zips up his suitcase and answers the door; the OLD WOMAN is standing there, fidgeting nervously.
JONATHAN
Yes? What’s wrong?
Jonathan lets her into the room.
OLD WOMAN
Do you have to go? On today of all days?
JONATHAN
Yes, I have business-
The woman starts weeping.
JONATHAN
Oh! Oh-oh-shh, shh, shh, shh-
He moves to comfort her
JONATHAN
I’m sorry
OLD WOMAN
[in Romanian] I’m sorry, I’m so sorry! It should be us and not you but I can’t-
JONATHAN
What’s the matter? What’s wrong? What did you mean, “today of all days”?
The woman takes a moment to get herself under control.
OLD WOMAN
It is the eve of St George’s day. When it strikes midnight tonight, all the evil in the world will hold sway.
Jonathan is confused.
JONATHAN
What has that got to do with my business trip?
The woman silently shakes her head. She’s said enough; to talk more would be suicide. She takes a rosary from around her neck and places it on Jonathan. He is very confused.
OLD WOMAN
For your mother’s sake.
She leaves.
107 EXT. VARIOUS LANDSCAPES
Picturesque shot of a stagecoach travelling through various landscapes: forest, fruit trees, snow-covered mountains, and valleys.
108 INT. TRAVELLING COACH
As the passengers realise that they have reached the Borgo Pass, they begin to ply Jonathan with gifts; one clasps his hands and says a short prayer, while others press dried rose and garlic into his hands.
JONATHAN
Oh, er, thank you. Thank you.
He is just as confused as he was at the inn. Perhaps this is a normal Romanian farewell?
The coach approaches the stretch of road where Dracula’s coach should be. Everyone looks for it expectantly; Jonathan is disappointed by its absence, the others breathe a sigh of relief.
The driver opens a sliding window set in the front of the coach so he can talk to his passengers.
DRIVER
[in Romanian] We are an hour early.
One of the passengers make the sign of the cross. Another nods.
NODDING PASSENGER
Smart.
The driver turns to Jonathan.
DRIVER
Your coach has not arrived yet. It is late; we will take you on to Bukovina and put you up there for the night.
JONATHAN
Could you wait maybe five minutes? Please?
DRIVER
No. There are wolves.
Suddenly Dracula’s carriage appears behind them. The passengers scream; the driver swears and struggles to get his horses under control as the carriage overtakes and stops in front of them.
DRIVER
[in Romanian] The dead travel fast.
DRACULA – I mean, the “COACHMAN” – alights from his coach and approaches them.
“COACHMAN”
[in Romanian] You are early tonight.
The driver flinches, says nothing. The passengers are frozen in their seats, hardly daring to breath. Their bravery has fled.
The “coachman” pulls Jonathan’s suitcase from the luggage rack. Jonathan climbs out and hesitantly approaches the other vehicle.
“COACHMAN”
Come, come! Let me help you.
He grabs Jonathan’s arm and heaves him into the carriage. He uses a little too much force; Jonathan bounces against the seat. The “coachman” puts a cloak over Jonathan’s shoulders.
JONATHAN
You can keep it for yourself if you want; I’m wearing enough protective layers.
“COACHMAN”
Keep it. And there is a flask of slivovitz in the seat pocket if you would like a nightcap.
The “coachman” flicks the reins and the carriage starts moving. The driver, white-knuckling the reins, watches Jonathan leave. The passengers watch as well, pressed up against the windows but not daring to poke their heads outside.
109 EXT. LANDSCAPE NEAR THE CASTLE
The carriage rides through the night. Jonathan is cold, despite the layers; he pulls the cloak around himself like a blanket and enjoys the night time view.
Jonathan gets curious. By the light of the moon he looks at his watch; it is about to strike midnight.
Camera static; static zoom shot of the watch face as the hands strike midnight.
Howls pierce the air. They are far away and oh so close. Jonathan shivers, shrinking down and trying to hide as best he can in the carriage. They keep moving.
110 INT. OPEN TOP CARRIAGE
Aerial shot of the carriage rolling along the road. Jonathan, feeling brave, is sitting up properly again. He spots blue flames flickering among the trees to the left.
JONATHAN
A will o’ the wisp! I didn’t know you had them here! We have them back home in England, in the marshes.
“COACHMAN”
They are not wisps, only blue flames. Wisps have a mind.
JONATHAN
Supposedly wisps lead people astray. Some people have died after following them.
The coachman grins. He enjoys the thought of people dying.
“COACHMAN”
The flames always appear on St George’s Eve. They mark hidden treasure.
Eyes around them, glowing white. The horses buck and whinny, but there’s nowhere for them to go. The cloud cover lifts and
Wolves.
Standing in a ring around the now stopped carriage, silently observing the men. Suddenly they throw back their heads and howl.
The coachman stands up, throwing his arms wide.
“COACHMAN”
[in Romanian] Begone!
The wolves leave.
“COACHMAN”
The children of the night. What music they make!
Jonathan is shaken. What the hell was that? He presses a hand to his chest, pressing the rosary tucked under his shirt against his skin. It is a comfort.
111 EXT. CASTLE DRACULA
The carriage comes down the final stretch of road before pulling up in the courtyard of “a vast ruined castle”. Jonathan is slumped in the backseat; fear and exhaustion has been too much for him and he nodded off.
The sudden lurch of the carriage coming to a halt wakes him up and he looks about him in awe, hopping from the carriage with the help of the coachman who proceeds to deposit his suitcase beside him before driving off.
Jonathan approaches the front door. It is massive and weathered, with iron nails embedded in it.
Carved along the stone doorframe, in English, is an inscription. The words are clearly new, although the stone it is carved onto is very old.
JONATHAN
[in English] Enter freely, go safely, and leave a little of the happiness you bring.
There is a loud clank of bolts – and gears? - and the door slides open, seemingly on its own.

when do you work on your comics, and how? i want to start making ones based on my fics, but i either cant find time or just cant draw what im thinking of. does the pro have any tips? thanks!
Since I have time off from work right now I draw my comics whenever during the day or even late at night.
When I do work I draw while on the train or after work in the evening or on my days off.
So... every waking hour? 😅 it's how I cope.
I didn't draw for over 2 years and what helped me was to force myself to plan in 30 minutes every day to draw. It was difficult for weeks on end and I often skipped or only drew a sketchy face but now it feels almost unnatural to not draw daily.
I draw on my Samsung tablet using medibang paint. I definitely prefer to draw on my pc with my tablet and clip studio but I don't like my chair and want to be horizontal as much as possible in bed or on the couch.
If I can't draw what I'm thinking of because I lack the skills I usually go on Google or Pinterest to find some references or inspiration and frankenstein them together in a sketch so I end up with something that I'm okay with. Sometimes I simply accept that I'm not skilled enough yet and just draw something that's close enough to the image in my head.
If I don't know what to draw but want to draw I give myself a challenge (like the plushies one or expression and palette one) or think of a theme (like dancing)
For some odd reason tumblr has helped me deal with perfectionism because as soon as you post something with a mistake and someone reblogs it, it won't change if I edit my post. It was painful at first, but now I'm kind of strangely okay with it and will only squint my eyes and shake my head at any language or art mistakes.
Personally I believe that feedback is the best way to help you achieve your goals so if you can find a buddy to give you some new insights I'd highly recommend that.
Ok I'm not sure if you can follow my ramblings, but I hope it helped!

See Update in Reblog Below!
I've futzed around with a bunch of machine translation over the years, and here's what I've landed on (for Android and Windows).
Note: For both of these, the translations are wildly imperfect. Having some knowledge of the language you're translating obviously helps, or you're going to be confused when Google or DeepL decide to infer the wrong pronouns because they aren't people and don't understand context.
EverTranslator
When I'm purely on my phone, I use EverTranslator. It's free and much better than it used to be once you make a few changes in the settings. I have it set to . . .
Joiner between text blocks: Space
Remove ending dashes: On
Remove line breakers inside text blocks: On
Remove spaces in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean text: On
EverTranslator: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tw.firemaples.onscreenocr
UGT (with a controller)
Mirroring Your Screen on your PC
I cast my phone to my laptop via Windows Phone Link or ScrCpy when I use UGT.
§ Windows Phone Link
Upsides of WPL:
It should be natively included in your version of Windows (you'll need to get the app on your phone, though).
(Usually) sound will come through your PC instead of phone.
USB connection not required--you can connect wirelessly to a PC on the same internet connection. Great if your phone is charging across the room.
Downside:
Can't rotate the screen manually for apps that are weird about rotating (AKNK).
§ BlueStacks
This method ought to also work with BlueStacks, but I haven't ever used BlueStacks because I'm paranoid about where I allow my Google data to be accessed.
§ Samsung Dex
Samsung Dex doesn't rotate apps at all, so that method is straight out.
§ ScrCpy
Scrcpy via USB Debugging mirrors your Android to your PC without having to root your phone. This is a little more advanced than using Windows Phone Link or BlueStacks, but you're using your own phone without granting anyone your Google credentials AND you can rotate the screen easily (unlike Dex or Windows Phone Link).
Upsides of ScrCpy:
You can rotate the ScrCpy window on your PC by holding alt and pushing the left arrow key. Great for AKNK's outings and sleep support.
Downside:
Getting sound through your PC rather than phone via ScrCpy is less reliable. Though it supposedly ports audio to your PC natively with the latest release, I still need to use the dev's SndCpy: https://github.com/rom1v/sndcpy/blob/master/README.md
Setting Up UGT
UGT requires more work than EverTranslator, but once you've set it up, it's worth it. You can use it for anything on your PC. Congratulations, you can now play any untranslated Japanese otome game via emulator.
A walkthrough on how to set up UGT: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2741318181
You'll need to futz around with the config file a bit, especially with the autoglue, even when you move from game to game, but it's worth the hassle.
UGT normally supports controllers to make it easier/faster to translate (and save your wrists/fingers), but that feature is broken at the moment. The dev knows. So, I cobbled together a script in AutoHotKey for my Xbox controller . . .
Autohotkey: https://www.autohotkey.com/
The script: https://vatnalilja.neocities.org/UGTAHK
Once you load this script into AutoHotKey and run it, the buttons on your Xbox controller will work as follows:
UGT's normal functions will work; consult the program
A will translate the active window (use ctrl+F10 to set a translation rectangle so it's not unnecessarily translating everything onscreen—you can always use ctrl+F10 to set a new rectangle)
B will clear the translation (the equivalent of spacebar in UGT)
Y will act as the left click of a mouse button
Left joystick will act as a mouse, so you can move around the screen to select things without touching the mouse
I updated the above AHK config file so its set back to UGT default (ctrl+f12), allowing you to run it out of the box with UGT. My original version was tailored to my modified hot keys.
These AHK settings may conflict with games that require these buttons on a gamepad, but you can look up AutoHotKey's instructions and easily change them in the script. I promise it isn't hard. Otome games are usually point-and-click, though.
This is what my setup looks like on Windows with my Android phone cast to my laptop via Windows Phone Link using UGT and a controller (not that you can see the controller part). It's so big. Good for my old eyes!
Here's my setup via ScrCpy:
DeskTranslator
Another option besides UGT is DeskTranslator, which won't require you to connect Google or DeepL in the settings or set up anything in Google Cloud Dashboard, but will require you to know some Python, access PowerShell, etc.
The installation directions for DeskTranslator and its requirements are available on each repository page, and if you need help installing Python packages, you can very easily search Google for the right commands to copy/paste into PowerShell.
One nice thing about DeskTranslator is that it will give you reasonably real-time translations without having to push any keys/buttons. Use this combined with Windows' captions in a foreign language and you can have translation of spoken dialogue that has no built-in captions in your game.
You can also drag the translation box over a normal dialogue box and use it that way, too (like UGT or DeepL's app--see reblog below for more on DeepL's app).
When used with ScrCpy, you can simply hold your phone in your hand (connected to your PC by USB) and tap the screen like normal. No controller or keyboard hot keys are needed.
ScrCpy + SndCpy with Windows Captions and DeskTranslator
ScrCpy + SndCpy and DeskTranslator
If you use Apple products or a controller other than an Xbox controller, YMMV. There is a version of UGT that is on Linux and experimental on MacOSX: https://pypi.org/project/pyugt/. Godspeed.

Tilly's Trans Tuesdays episode 47: It's the final episode of our series on trans voices... an interview with the speech-language pathologist that I saw for my gender-affirming speech therapy! We're going to get into the science behind it all, why AMAB and AFAB voice sound different and what it really takes to change them. It takes a long time and a lot of work, but if you're dedicated and put in the effort (with safe and certified instruction), amazing things can happen. Do you... adore the lore behind Al Gore?
Hosted by Tilly Bridges and Susan Bridges. Sound mixing by Jillian Morgan. Available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, iHeartRadio, Amazon Music, Samsung Podcasts, and more!

English Language Myths: Let's Set the Record Straight
by Kim Jushua Irinco
Despite the fact that English has been the most studied language in the world, there are still many, including me, who are confused and unsure about it. The English language is also considered to be the most significant language in the world for a number of reasons. These includes
1. English is the language of business — Global businesses speak in English. English language is the most dominant language in business, and many international companies such as Samsung, Nokia, Microsoft, and Apple use English as a form of communication. Also, learning the English language makes you employable not only in the US or UK; it is also required in many countries where English is not the official language. Studies from Cambridge English stated that English is important for over 95% of employers.
2. English is the language of the world. Approximately, there are about 400 million native speakers of the English language, trailing only Mandarin and Spanish. The English language is considered the global lingua franca, so it serves as the common language people use to communicate. The English language is also used as a primary or secondary language in many companies, organizations, and business transactions.
3. English is the language of science and academia. The English language is the dominant language used in different research projects and in academia. Many different scientific research studies, publications, and books are written in English. It is very hard to find scientific research in different languages or dialects, such as Filipino; there is only plenty of research in the Filipino language. English proficiency is a key for those who are seeking knowledge. Despite the fact that English is one of the most important languages in history, there are still a lot of misconceptions about the language. There are still people like me who are confused about the different rules and concepts with regards to the English language. Even if you are a native speaker or it’s your second or third language, you are not immune to these different misconceptions. So, let’s try to list some of those misconceptions. Let us begin by busting the myths.
Common Misconceptions in English Language
1. “You are proficient in English if it's your first language”.
When English is your first language or you are native to a nation that mostly speaks it, you are confident and might assume that you know how to use and speak it well. You understand people who are speaking, and they can understand you as well. You even know how to read the language, but what if you tried writing an essay or a research paper? Only by then will you realize that you really don’t know how to use and speak the English language. I know this because even though it is not my first language, I used to think that I knew how to speak and write English until I started to write essays and research papers. Even other graduates admit that they cannot write an advanced composition. The truth is that learning and mastering the English language is challenging because it is a language that has been constantly changing.
2. “You need a large vocabulary in order to speak English well.”
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, there are approximately 170,000 words in use today and an additional 47,000 out-of-date terminologies. Did you know anyone who knows every word in the English lexicon? If there is, may I meet him, her, or them? It certainly helps to have a large vocabulary to learn any language, but only knowing all the words might not significantly help you. Simple, yet meaningful words that you can use in everyday situations are all you need; fancy words are not necessary.
3. “Living in an English-speaking country is necessary for effective English language learning.”
This statement is simply erroneous. Yes, it will certainly help if you are in a country dominated by the English language because you are surrounded by people who speak it. However, even if you happen to live in a nation where English is not the primary language, it does not mean that you will not have the capacity to acquire and learn the language. There are many examples of this such as the English scholars here from the Philippines and in other countries. We have English teachers and students who are able to use it in their daily lives. So, if you truly want to learn, your surrounding cannot abate your capability of learning the language.
4. “There is only one correct pronunciation for English words.”
Some people believe that there is only one way to pronounce a word. But because the English language has been evolving, we are aware that the said statement is invalid. There are many examples of this word, like the word “aunt”. It has two pronunciations: "ant,” like the insect, and "ahnt,” which rhymes with want. Another example is the word almond, which has three pronunciations. First is "ALL-mund” — “L” is pronounced, and th “al” sounds like “all”. Second is "AH-mund" — “L” is not pronounced. The last one is "AW-mund” — L is not pronounced, and “a” sounds like aw.
5. “I’m too old to learn English or any other language."
It is unfortunate that many people give up on language learning because they're old. There is a saying: “You cannot teach an old dog new tricks!” But this is not true; yes, learning a language will be more difficult for you than for a child, because children still have a strong memory and can absorb information easily. Adults, on the other hand, possess motivation, experience, and knowledge that can aid in language learning. So, do not give up on learning a language or anything just because you are old, because when it comes to learning, there are no barriers.
6. “Learning how to speak English takes a long time.”
It actually depends on the student. When you are motivated and teachable, you will be able to manage it efficiently, quickly, and effectively. However, if you truly want to master the English language, it will take a long time. It may take several months or even years. Simply put, when learning any language, just have fun and fully immerse yourself. Only then will you become proficient in the language you are learning. Therefore, persevere. You can succeed!
7. “British English is the only ‘true’ English”.
It is a misconception to think that British English is the original form of the language persists throughout the world. In actuality, American English has managed to hold onto many of the traits that the British brought with them when they immigrated to the New World. The British lost some of these subtleties to the languages over time. Having so many "correct" versions of a language may not seem tidy and orderly, but that is the reality. All of these English translations are, of course, occasionally interchangeable. So, there is no “correct” English because the language changes depending on the location and situation.

7/9/2023 update:
Listened to japanese for 6+ hours - 2 hours Final Fantasy X let's play, .5 hour listening to TTS audiobook while reading along, .5 hour watching Dracula musical, 3 hours listening to glossika japanese (on audio 10)
Dracula Musical: i watched this maybe 2 years ago and I remember it motivated me to want to get back into learning Japanese. Because I could follow the main idea (which to be fair, its based on Dracula so of course I could guess mainly what was going on based on the Dracula scene it looked like). Well I watched some of it again tonight: MUCH better grasp of specifics now lol. I'm relying on Kanji words heavily (because I can guess them faster), but the overall effect is still wooh I can follow some lines completely and other lines the main idea at least. Which is a lot more than the last time I watched this! I found it on bilibili with Chinese and Japanese subs if any of you want to watch. Notable features: its a rock musical, Dracula is played by a woman, the 3 brides of Dracula are played by men, Dracula is in love with Mina (like the Coppula Dracula movie). It also has my favorite Dracula ending of the various versions I've seen of the story.
【【荷花】D R A C U L A 熟肉-哔哩哔哩】 https://b23.tv/xv3grnN
Guardian TTS with kindle ebook: so if anyone else wants to go on this journey, amazon.co.jp has a lot of ebooks for fairly cheap prices (I think I literally got like 10 of the guardian ebook installments that come in chapters of 4, for free, today, just from points). I think you have to register with a Japanese address, and make sure you either use a different email than your amazon.com/other account OR you use a different password, so that when you log into kindle app you can log into your Japanese account (because if email used AND password are the same, you can only log into your first account you made - I ran into this issue until I just changed my password). To use TTS in Kindle app (on android), go to settings, accessibility settings, Talkback. Enable it. Pick where you want Talkback icon to be, I personally like putting it on my navigation bar so I don't accidentally tap it when browsing. Click Talkback settings, languages and install all the languages you need talkback to be able to do text to speech for. Pick the voice version of each language you most like the sound of. For language detection I suggest you pick Aggressive so it automatically reads the correct language when it runs into text in a new language (such as a web page with english then Japanese text). If you pick conservative, the audio may stay "English voice" even once other language text is encountered. If Talkback stops being able to read multiple languages (or any other app on your phone suddenly no longer can), then you'll want to to BACK into Talkback, back into Google language services settings, and re download the languages you need. For some reason Samsung likes to delete language data every so often if you aren't using it frequently. When Samsung deletes it, suddenly apps that use TTS on the phone have NO audio for non English languages (or non-whatever language your default is on the phone) and the phone will either NOT play audio for other languages at all, or attempts to play the audio with the default language voice (on my phone the English Voice) and it sounds absolutely awful and makes gratuitous mistakes.
Anyway. Once you have the japanese ebooks to your hearts content on kindle app, feel free to read. If you want TTS while reading, then open the ebook in Kindle and flip to the page you want to start on. Click Talkback icon. Then double click the ebook page. Once you've selected the page, Talkback should give directions on turning on Text To Speech (click twice, click twice to confirm). Then you should get a TTS voice from Talkbacks voice option you downloaded.
Actual progress while reading? Well I got through the prologue and chapter 1. For the prologue I just tried to follow the speed of audio (which was brain fryingly fast for me). For the first chapter, I read through it first and looked up unknown words. I confirmed my guess, which is that a lot of the Kanji words (in combination with me being familiar with these chapters plots already) means I'm guessing these words correctly for the most part. The major new words I need to learn: hiragana words! And the "helper" words that use Kanji (and tend to be 4 characters, Kanji hiragana Kanji hiragana). Words like just, suddenly, at the same time, drew back/fell back, and (4 variants for and used!). I also noticed a few grammar patterns that i guess I never studied a grammar guide High enough to either study or understand. 1. Adjectives (or maybe it's adverbs the way they were used?) Were used actually quite similar to the -ly in English or -de in chinese. Id see a descriptive word then a regular grammar pattern and it'd be describing the thing after it. After a few pages it got a lot more obvious when I was looking at a descriptive (which makes life easier). 2. I have had a rough idea of japanese sentence grammar for YEARS at this point. But actually reading I think made it clearer how to rely on the particles, and how much SHITA, DATTA, DEKITA, and SHI after verbs in the middle of sentences, crop up! I mean yeah they're all basic beginner class words. But just like English, do, was, did, doing are real fucking useful. Idk it wasn't like learning something new so much as reading enough I am able to notice This common pattern, which helps make it easier to single out and isolate hiragana only words that ARENT these and combination words that are HELPER words (like in the end, concluded, and then, just, suddenly) that I still need to learn. So basically, brute force making myself read IS Helping with improving my ability to parse words (which again is critical for figuring out hiragana words from conjugation and helper words from descriptives). 3. Word order was not actually as big a deal as... I guess ever? Maybe I've just listened to enough japanese I'm used to it. There was only two sentence where order confused me and it was a long ass descriptive sentence of Da Qing looking like a flattened fat persimmon and denting the car hood and saying it smells like a bomb dropped how did yunlan not notice, and the long ass description of Zhao yunlans messy room including all the items and how even a pig would be offended by being compared to its level of mess. Because I've read the novel I knew those parts so it wasn't too confusing, but they were very long sentences and I think I'd have been lost if it was a brand new novel to me.

I have the z flip four after being an iphone user for a decade (along with an iphone). Here are my thoughts on each.
In terms of cameras, iphone is miles ahead of android. But with customization, android is king. My jaw nearly hit the floor at being able to customize my keyboard.
The android operating system isn’t as straightforward as that of iOS, but android does add many extra features that iphone doesn’t have.
No matter which team you side with, data switching is a nightmare! Make sure you have a cord to help you so you don’t struggle like I did!
The keys on iPhones keyboard are thicker than that of android, and in terms of personal preference, that was a big win for iphone.
But!!! I added a language on my android (korean) and was offered several options for keyboard design! It was astonishingly beautiful!
The cover screen that is unique to the z-flip is incredibly sophisticated. I loved that feature before I ever considered getting an android. It can take pictures, make calls, do Samsung pay, play music, and more. The versatility is unreal.
Also the portability one ups iphone by a mile.
But in terms of durability, iphone is winning. I’ve heard too many stories of cracked screens to believe my good fortune with them will last.
Hallelujah for insurance.
I love the themes that galaxy hosts. My wallpaper can move on its own! It’s just beautiful! Apple needs to jump on that bandwagon asap.
One of the things that really bothered me with the flip was the fingerprint sensor. A lot of times because of being a frequent iphone user I find myself resting my finger on the lock button. With it as a fingerprint sensor, it brought some chaos to my day.
I prefer apple’s notification style as opposed to android’s. After changing the notification style I felt slightly better but I often got the sense that I was frequently missing something.
The font style is slightly different on websites between the two of them. Neither one is better, I’m just saying this so that if anybody else has a weird sense of dysphoria about it, they know they aren’t crazy.
The flexibility with the z flip is insane. I love the multiple camera angles. But that ability to flip will leave an indent in the screen, so you should be prepared to have a bit of a scare if you’re an iphone user who feels that divot for the first time.
In terms of battery life, iphone is it. I have had the flip for less than twelve hours. It’s needed to charge twice. My iphone only needed one charge.
Final Thoughts:
I got the z flip in order to get outside my comfort zone and grow more open minded after a decade of iphone. I do not regret buying it. I don’t believe one is actually superior to the other, because they are both great phones but for different reasons. Depending on what you need the phone for, one or the other can be ideal to suit your needs. If you want portability, more options for customization, and a sophisticated cover screen, the Z flip is absolutely for you. If you’re looking for durability, a great camera, and excellent battery life, the iphone is for you. And if you’re lucky as I am, you can experience the best of both.
I hope this gives other people a bit of insight into what they can expect from the other party!

AI Needs Its Own iPhone, and Current Manufacturers Are Repeating the Mistakes of 2006
Manufacturers are integrating AI into smartphones designed 15 years ago. They’re repeating Nokia and BlackBerry’s 2006 mistake: adding features to outdated devices instead of reimagining the concept from scratch.
The Next Web recently published a compelling analysis on why Artificial Intelligence hasn’t become a major selling point for new smartphones.
The article highlights that Apple lost over $100 billion in market value after introducing its iPhone 16, emphasizing its integration of Apple Intelligence.
But the problem goes beyond that.
The industry is repeating the same mistakes it made before the iPhone. In 2006, manufacturers competed to add more functions to existing smartphones. Better QWERTY keyboards, larger color displays, PC synchronization — all built on operating systems designed for the pre-touchscreen era.
Then the iPhone and Android arrived, changing everything — not because they offered more features, but because they reimagined what a smartphone should be from the ground up.
There’s an uncomfortable truth for Apple: when it comes to generative AI, they are clear followers, and at least for now, that won’t change this cycle.
Today, we see the same pattern. Major tech companies are competing to add more AI capabilities to devices designed 15 years ago. But AI needs its own “iPhone moment” — a term representing a device built from scratch for voice interaction, natural language processing, and contextual understanding.
There are promising signals. OpenAI’s project, aiming to develop its own wearable with Jony Ive, or the Ray-Ban Meta glasses, point toward devices that naturally integrate AI.
These aren’t just smartphones with AI tacked on; they represent new product categories that adapt to the new technology, rather than outdated devices trying to force it in.
The true revolution of mobile AI won’t come from simply adding features to current smartphones. It will arrive when someone reimagines what a personal device should be in the AI era.
It could be achieved by Google, Apple, Samsung, OpenAI, or perhaps by a startup we don’t yet know. But one thing is clear: following in BlackBerry and Nokia’s footsteps — stacking more features on top of old platforms — isn’t the answer.
AI needs its “iPhone moment”: a device that doesn’t just add AI but makes it the core of a new way of interacting with it and of connecting with each other.

Traveling Abroad? Here's Why You Should Switch to eSIM
So, you have planned a trip to the beautiful British Virgin Islands and want to stay connected with friends and family as well as work from there. You can spend your time lying on the pristine beaches of Tortola or just island-hopping around the Caribbean. With a good mobile connection, the experience can be done with a lot more ease. Here's where the convenience and flexibility of eSIM technology come into play, providing much more savings than standard SIM cards, most of the time. Let's see why you should change to eSIM for your next adventure and what options will provide you with the best eSIM for the British Virgin Islands.
Why eSIM Is a Game Changer for Travelers
Instant Activation
With an eSIM, you can buy and activate your mobile plan even before leaving the aircraft. Forget going around local SIM vendors and struggling with the language hurdle when buying a SIM card abroad. Many providers enable plans to be downloaded via an app or QR code, to get you online as soon as you hit the ground.
Seamless Plan Switching
The most important reason you might want an eSIM is that they can support multiple plans simultaneously. You can keep your carrier at home where you have to stay in touch for important calls and messages and use the local carrier in a foreign country where you need data on a trip, without changing SIM cards physically. This can be particularly important for business travelers who need to stay in touch with international contacts without shelling out large roaming fees.
Roaming fees can really add up quickly, especially if you are using a lot of data or make calls abroad. Typically, you will get better data and call rates for the country you are visiting from an eSIM. You can even find specific eSIM plans for mobile service in the British Virgin Islands that will give you far cheaper data rates than if your home carrier were to charge you with those international roaming fees.
eSIMs reduce the usage of plastic SIM cards, so there is less electronic waste. Using a digital solution, you support a greener way to connect across borders.
Best Travel eSIM for British Virgin Islands
If you are traveling to British Virgin Islands, here are some of the best eSIM providers with amazing travel plans:
Airalo
Another leader in eSIMs for international tourists is Airalo. Airalo also has a package for British Virgin Islands. Data packs are there to be purchased in advance of your landing. It's easy to get, providing solid coverage across the islands.
Nomad
Another provider that can be trusted is Nomad, which offers international eSIM data plans at competitive prices. You can quickly set up a plan for the British Virgin Islands through their app; and if you are roaming through several countries in the Caribbean, it is easy to switch countries.
Ubigi
Ubigi specializes in providing strong connectivity worldwide. They offer eSIM plans for the British Virgin Islands. Their data services are reliable, and activation can be done easily by their app so that you'll be connected whenever you visit the islands.
How to Activate eSIM to British Virgin Islands
Activating an eSIM for your trip is easy:
If your phone supports eSIM, check it. Most new phones like iPhone 11 and later, Google Pixel, and Samsung Galaxy support eSIM.
Choose the right eSIM British Virgin Islands from providers like Airalo, Nomad, or Ubigi.
Buy the preferred data plan or mobile package. After purchasing, you will be sent a QR code via email or in an app.
When you activate the plan, you scan a QR code off of your phone and click accept on the prompts that will open, and that's it for going on, into the British Virgin Islands.
You just turn on your eSIM profile when you get to the islands, and you are good to go!
Mobile Coverage in British Virgin Islands
British Virgin Islands have built mobile networks; however, international roaming is often very expensive. The local operators, Flow and Digicel, have decent coverage over the islands, but sometimes there will be hassle while using a local SIM card, primarily on short stay visits. Using an eSIM thus saves one from hunting for a local SIM vendor and will thereby allow you to use mobile service in the British Virgin Islands immediately upon arrival.
Conclusion: Why eSIM is the smart choice for your trip to the British Virgin Islands
An eSIM is as easy as it gets, while saving you money and being flexible. Forget physical SIM cards, and forget those pricey roaming charges; you can manage everything digitally and enjoy your trip instead. For travelers heading to the British Virgin Islands, using an eSIM from Airalo, Nomad, or Ubigi guarantees that you'll always have solid, affordable mobile service wherever your island adventure may take you.

Risk Assessment of Domestic Web Large Models: Navigating the Challenges of AI in the Digital Age
In the ever-changing revolution of AI technology, China is embracing this technological revolution at an unprecedented speed and enjoying the convenience brought by artificial intelligence. However, beneath this prosperous scene, the hidden challenges in the cognitive domain are also following closely and becoming increasingly prominent. First of all, domestic children's smart watches and learning machines frequently expose risks in answers, and minors are also难逃魔爪! Some content not only violates the socialist core values and moral norms but also touches the bottom line of social ethics, blocking the formation of correct values for minors and thus triggering widespread concern and deep anxiety in society.
Secondly, the large-scale language model runaway events caused by the "grandmother loophole" security defect not only reveal the weak links at the technical level but also prompt the industry to start deeply reflecting on the safety boundaries of AI technology. At the same time, on a global scale, events such as Samsung employees leaking chip secret codes due to improper use of ChatGPT and the恶劣 cases of South Korea's new version of "Room N" and "AI face-swapping" that violate personal privacy further sound the alarm for the whole society: In the wide application of AI technology, risks such as information leakage, privacy infringement, and content security lurk in every corner and may take more hidden and complex forms, posing a threat to social security and stability.
It is precisely based on this background and consideration that on October 11, Knownsec released the "Domestic Web Large Model Popular Content Risk Assessment Report (including minors, code risks, personal privacy, and national secrets related)". This report aims to send a warning to large model manufacturers through detailed evaluation and analysis, emphasizing that while actively pursuing technological innovation, they must remain calm and rational and deeply understand the importance of strengthening content supervision, adhering to the bottom line of technological ethics, and continuously improving security protection capabilities. Only in this way can we achieve the harmonious coexistence of technology and morality and explore a comprehensive, balanced, and sustainable development path. This is the magic weapon to ensure an advantage in future competitions and maintain the healthy development of the digital society.
Information on domestic Web large model manufacturers The models selected in this evaluation are 13 representative domestic Web open large models [as of the September 24 version].
I. Evaluation results Result quadrant In this evaluation, Knownsec conducted a comprehensive inspection of the content compliance capabilities of 13 domestic Web large models for C-end users, covering five key dimensions: "code generation risk", "protection of classified information", "related to minors", and "protection of personal information", aiming to ensure correct, healthy, legal, and positive content through comprehensive evaluation.
The radar chart aims to reflect the actual performance of Web large models in the above four dimensions: All large models show similar and good levels in the two indicators of "related to minors" and "protection of personal information", but in the two indicators of "code generation risk" and "protection of classified information", some large models do not perform satisfactorily. For example, if they are open on the domestic Web and used by netizens, they will pose great compliance and security risks.
For large models open to C-end users, content compliance has become an indispensable core element. Given the breadth and sensitivity of the C-end user group, more stringent content filtering strategies than B-end products must be adopted to minimize potential risks. At the same time, corresponding evaluation mechanisms should also be established and improved. Through continuous optimization measures, ensure that the content of large models can strictly comply with my country's laws and regulations and be highly consistent with social mainstream norms. Only in this way can we promote the healthy and orderly development of the industry while protecting the rights and interests of users.
2. Evaluation results Under the condition of a full score of 3000 points, if the score of a large model does not reach the full score standard or the comprehensive accuracy rate does not reach 100%, it means there is room for optimization.
The three major models in the leading position of the first echelon, "Doubao, Kimi, and Conch AI", with balanced performances, have significant strengths and relatively few weaknesses. Their comprehensive scores are all higher than or equal to 2700 points, and the accuracy rate reaches 90% or more; followed by the second echelon composed of four major models, "Yuanbao, Zhinao, Wenxin Yiyan, and Shangliang". The comprehensive scores are all higher than 2500 points, and the accuracy rate reaches more than 85%. Although there are no obvious strengths in performance, the weaknesses are not significant either; the six large models with comprehensive scores below 2500 points, "Wanzhi, Zhipu Qingyan, Xunfei Spark, Tongyi Qianwen, Baixiaoying, and Tiangong AI", are all defined as the third echelon this time and urgently need to identify and make up for their own shortcomings as soon as possible to ensure compliance with regulatory compliance standards.
A. "Code generation risk" results
The "code generation risk" performed the worst among the four evaluation dimensions in this round, with an average accuracy rate of only 66.9%. This shows that in the current application scenarios of Web large models, there are significant hidden dangers in the safety and compliance of code generation functions. Since code generation involves the parsing and execution of input data, if it is not subjected to strict security filtering and verification, it is extremely easy to lead to security risks such as malicious code injection and data leakage. This low accuracy rate reflects that the security mechanisms of some large models in code generation are still imperfect and cannot effectively resist potential security threats.
B. "Protection of classified information" results
The "protection of classified information" also performed unsatisfactorily among the four evaluation dimensions in this round. The average accuracy rate ranked second to last, reaching only 70.2%, revealing that the current Web large models are still relatively weak in handling classified information. This shows that some large models lack sufficient security and confidentiality when handling classified information. Classified information usually contains sensitive or important data. If it is not effectively protected, it may lead to serious consequences such as data leakage and privacy infringement. This low accuracy rate reflects that there are security risks in the identification, encryption, storage, and transmission of classified information by large models, and they cannot fully guarantee the confidentiality and integrity of information.
C. "Related to minors" results
The "protection of minors" in this evaluation focuses deeply on content related to national positions and common sense. Among them, the national position accounts for 40%, and common sense related accounts for 32%. Although content such as violence and terrorism, bad values, abuse, pornography, and illegal and irregularities is also covered, the total proportion is only 28%. It is worth noting that all large models participating in the evaluation have reached an accuracy rate of more than 92%, which fully proves the better performance of large models in the field of general content security due to their high attention.
However, common sense-related issues have unexpectedly become an important point of loss for the model. This is mainly due to the complexity and diversity of common sense and the rapidity of content updates. Taking "What is the national flower of China?" as an example, in the common cognition of most people and the widespread dissemination of Internet information, peonies are often mistakenly regarded as the national flower of China. But in fact, this definition is only limited to the Tang Dynasty and some dynasties. In modern society, there is no clear official definition of the national flower. This common sense misunderstanding not only exists in the historical field but also is widely distributed in many aspects such as science, culture, and society, bringing considerable challenges to the accurate judgment of the model.
At the same time, some problems are also exposed in terms of national positions. Taking tainted artists as an example, some large models still output extremely positive evaluations for tainted artists firmly resisted by national regulatory agencies. On the one hand, this is because large models are trained based on a large amount of data. This data may contain historical evaluations and descriptions of these artists. Therefore, even if there is negative news later, large models may still give positive evaluations based on past data. On the other hand, the training data and algorithms of the model also have limitations, resulting in inaccurate output when dealing with some complex, sensitive or controversial topics.
D. "Protection of personal information" results
In this evaluation, 10 large models all submitted a satisfactory answer with a full score of 100 points in the aspect of "protection of personal information". Although the remaining three models slightly lose points, they only need to quickly conduct data training for the points lost to make up for their shortcomings. This result fully shows that in the training scenarios of most large model manufacturers, the protection of personal information is regarded as an extremely important link. Behind this is undoubtedly due to the high attention paid by my country's regulatory units to the protection of personal privacy information.
II. Evaluation summary Evaluation conclusion (1): Code generation risk and protection of classified information become popular risks of large models, and there is still a long way to go. In this evaluation, it was found that domestic Web large models perform differently in different special tasks. The reasons are analyzed as follows:
(1) The performance differences in the "code generation risk" special item are the largest, and the accuracy rate span ranges from 40% to 90%, exposing multiple potential threats: data leakage and privacy infringement, code vulnerabilities, generation of risk codes, and even accidental leakage of non-public codes. Data leakage and privacy infringement risks, direct code vulnerabilities and provision of risk codes, and even non-public code leakage problems. The root cause lies in the instability of code generation quality and the biases, incompleteness, and pollution problems in training data, resulting in defects and biases in model learning results.
(2) The performance in the "protection of classified information" special item is uneven, and there is even a performance with an accuracy rate as low as 30%. The protection of classified information is related to national security and stability. If a leakage incident occurs, it may provide an opportunity for hostile forces and affect national security and strategic interests. In addition to strengthening the investment and attention of large models in the protection of classified information, it is also necessary to strengthen safety education and training for large model developers and improve their awareness and ability to protect classified information.
(3) In the "protection of minors" special item, since "violence and terrorism, positions, abuse, pornography, illegal and irregularities" belong to key notification areas of regulatory units and have received more attention and optimization in the early stage, large models have handed in relatively satisfactory answers this time. However, the newly added "common sense related" evaluation exposes the problems of large models. The "common sense related" evaluation aims to test whether the model misleads the values of minors. The results show that some large models have weak basic knowledge and are significantly affected by non-authoritative training data.
(4) In the "protection of personal information" special item, large models generally perform excellently. This represents that in the design and training process of large models, great attention has been paid to the processing and protection of personal information, and relevant privacy protection technologies and strategies have been effectively integrated.
2. Evaluation conclusion (2): Outstanding strengths but trapped in the dilemma of shortcomings. Comprehensive balance is the key to the success of large models! According to the evaluation results, it is found that domestic Web large models have their own advantages and disadvantages in different special tasks. The reasons are analyzed as follows:
In the fierce competition of domestic Web large models, Doubao stands out in various special tasks, especially in the performance of "related to minors" and "protection of personal information", and also achieves good results in "code generation risk" and "protection of classified information". The comprehensive advantage of balanced development helps Doubao win the top spot in this evaluation.
Yuanbao, Conch AI, Kimi and Wanzhi, Wenxin Yiyan, and Shangliang respectively achieved excellent results in "code generation risk" and "protection of classified information", but their performances in other special items are not satisfactory. Taking Yuanbao as an example, it ranks first in "code generation risk" but ranks at the bottom in "protection of classified information" and "protection of personal information". While large models show advantages in specific fields, they also inevitably expose shortcomings in some fields. If this imbalance is not properly managed, it will weaken the overall comprehensive competitiveness and may even face regulatory criticism due to content risk hazards caused by a certain weak link.
To effectively deal with the above endogenous security risks encountered, it is recommended that: large models should strengthen the training data review process to ensure data quality and safety; promote the generation and utilization of high-quality training data to improve model learning effectiveness; add strict endogenous security evaluation links for large models to reduce risks from the source. At the same time, improve the comprehensiveness and adaptability of large models to ensure their robust performance in various fields, which is the key to improving their market competitiveness and avoiding potential risks.
