Chainsaw Man Chapter 113 Thoughts
What was originally supposed to be a one day break became two days, but it was needed to a degree. This chapter does kick off the beginning of Volume 14 which hasn’t exactly ended quite yet, and that makes things interesting in terms of the narrative. What is there that can be said regarding the way Tatsuki Fujimoto brings the readers into after concluding the last chapter?
Truth be told, Asa fixes up her hairstyle to make herself standout on the first date experience, but then quickly decides to keep it at the original look. Yoru comments about how there wasn’t much substance when it comes to her appearance and it could more flair. They both have discussions about the perfect way to seduce a guy, One is based off on the basis of appearance while the other thinks otherwise. What the person truly feels on the inside is the thing that’s most important.
An immediate transition occurs with Asa and Denji already in the middle of their date at the Aquarium which is something. They are both looking at starfishes which is where Asa info dumps all the facts that she knows about them to Denji, but he isn’t exactly interested. He’s rather bored about the whole information the knowledge Asa has because it felt very textbook based, and because Denji just wants to see penguins. They have clashes about the plan that was set for the day according to Asa which prompts Denji to take off so he could find the penguins on his own without her. Main reason being is that Denji has begun to tackle things for himself.
Yoru steps back into the picture to ask Asa why she isn’t pursuing Denji for running off like that, and she likes to belive her stances weren’t wrong. From a certain perspective when it came to the plan that was set in place, but Yoru pointed out that could’ve been because Asa is a total bore. That instantly sets off another argument between the two once more about the situation at hand only for a certain character to reappear into the picture. The same one who assisted Asa and Yoru in saying Yuko after the battle was over on their end.
This student refers to Denji as someone who doesn’t know from right or wrong, but also knows that Asa isn’t someone who can’t change a person into a weapon. When asked about who this student was and how she knew so much about Asa’s powers everything started to come into place. This student from the devil hunter’s club was none other than Yoru’s older sister, The Famine Devil aka Fami. Yoru attempts to persuade Asa not to trust anything Fami says, but before a chance was even made she was temporally taken away. The simple reason was to ensure that Asa turns Denji into a weapon otherwise she isn’t leaving the Aquarium.
Finally, Denji makes his back to her in order to discuss about the size of the place not exactly being massive. No matter how far he was able to walk, Denji just couldn’t simply get out. That left Asa rather speechless while sweating due to the very thing Fami mentioned. Denji also complained about a certain someone making an appearance at the aquarium bringing a close to the chapter.
All in All, this chapter of Chainsaw Man gets Amazing+ rating. I liked how we didn’t really waste any time for the date between Asa and Denj. Only a quick moment with Asa prepping to see how she’d look until we get to the sight. I love the absolute meta commentary Tatsuki Fujimoto addresses with how the date is taking place in terms of things feeling stale, and implementing that through Denji’s character. This makes for a really engaging read while allowing he readers to feel connected to the situation. The real highlight for this chapter was getting the identity of “the student” being Yoru’s older sister, The Famine Devil aka Fami. That opened up to so many different possibilities on how this series was gonna go and especially correlating it to where we are lately. I can definitely feel the sensation of being up to date to the latest chapter. It won’t be too long now, and that’s all I gotta say for the time being. The next chapter thoughts for Chainsaw Man will be up soon but until then, I hope you all take care of yourselves out there.

Saw your reply to the anon asking for spoiler tags! Hope you don't mind this suggestion, but in other fandoms they're considered spoilers until the anime episode comes out in consideration for anime-only fans. But if you don't want to wait until then (since BSD anime adaptations can take years), official volume releases might be a good alternative. Either way I get anon's concern since anime-onlys are a huge chunk of any animanga fanbase (I remember how controversial the chainsaw man fandom was for example, since manga readers kept spoiling anime-onlys when the season aired lol)
Ough thank you lots for the tips!! I think it's going to be hard to keep tagging the spoilers up to the Yen Press release, so I'll probably stick to two weeks like I've seen other people suggest, and recommend anyone else who doesn't want to be spoiled to unfollow or block me if it comes to that. As a workaround, I do always tag individual chapters (or at least I always do unless I'm very excited for the new chapter and posting very quickly for the tags to be edited later, but I'll try not to let it happen again!), so you should be able to avoid spoilers completely if you blacklist every chapter starting from 113 (formatted as “bsd ch x”); although I understand not everyone might want to go through the trouble (in that case, again, unfollowing / blocking me is probably your best option).
#Honestly the thought never occurred to me because I simply thought no one who wasn't caught up with the manga followed me#But thank you for bringing this to my attention! I'll be more careful in the future#people asks me stuff

NAVIGATING MY BLOG 🌱
hello and welcome if you’ve come across my page! this is the long overdue introduction + organisation post for this blog (2 years late. but oh well)
ABOUT ME: you can find a more detailed profile on my carrd — but here are the basics.
you can call me jem, i use they/them, and i’m 22. i am currently a music student—if ever i suddenly disappear for like, a month or two, just know it’s because of school, lol.
i can also be found on:
twitter / @ chuuyadelune (where i’m more active)
youtube (i post an edit once every 6 months)
FANDOMS: i mostly engage in bungo stray dogs content, but i’m also a fan of sakamoto days, skip to loafer, chihayafuru, moriarty the patriot, mob psycho 100, chainsaw man, yona of the dawn, witch hat atelier and a whole lot more —a more comprehensive list is in the carrd (since i have not updated my MAL in a very long time)
WHAT I POST ON THIS BLOG: beyond reblogging a bunch of fanart/theories, i have posted a variety of things, which include:
manga colourings (i don’t really do these anymore, admittedly)
written theories/analysis on the BSD manga
half-fleshed out analysis of the BSD anime’s cinematography (lighting, composition, etc)
general ramblings about the BSD anime’s music (because i am nothing if not a huge nerd about this sort of thing)
i have tried to organise things via the tags in the past but not all of them show up, so i’m leaving all the links to everything here—alongside the tags i used—for posterity and so i can find things when i want to. everything is below the cut:
WRITTEN THEORIES ON THE BSD MANGA
the tag i use is jems bsd theories, but not all of these show up all the time, unfortunately. so here’s the list:
(a very silly post about) vampire chuuya (chapter 98)
(a very shitty) attempt at breaking down BSD 101
sigma is the key to winning meursault, and the why in relation to the BSD themes
[BSD 113] the fyodor jesus references go crazy ngl (less analysis more a list of things i noticed)
ANALYSIS (KINDA) OF THE BSD ANIME’S CINEMATOGRAPHY
both this section and the one below (music ramblings) can be found under the tag jem rambles, but here are the links for everything anyway:
the use of levels and how it links to ranpo’s character in S4 E2 (untold origins)
the effective use of lighting in yosano’s backstory, S4 E9
visual parallels in the shin soukoku fights, S1 - S5
BSD MUSIC RAMBLINGS
i really like screen mode BSD ops
BSD S5’s opening fucking bangs thank you kisho taniyama i love you
MANGA COLOURINGS
i used the tag jems colourings for this, but some of them don’t show up, so i’m listing everything here.
BSD:
smiley kenji from 100.5
fyodor drowning from 101
hunting dog tachihara from 68
fukufuku (fukuchi and fukuzawa) from 103
chuuya entrance from fifteen manga phase 1

Eternity Devil Cluster(s)
I am suffering from an acute case of Cluster Trigger Event Fever. The only treatment is writing more cluster trigger events.
The high concept for this cluster is pretty simple. Chainsaw Man's Eternity Devil, as its name implies, screws with time. What if that time screwery lead to temporally separated trigger events getting tangled into one cluster?
The Eternity Devil(s) was/were fought twice in Chainsaw Man. The first time was in chapters 14-19 of the aptly-named Eternity Devil arc, where Denji and a bunch of his Public Safety coworkers get trapped in a hotel. The second was chapters 113-117 of the Dating Denji arc, where Denji and a bunch of his high school classmates get trapped in an aquarium. Why not make clusters for both?
For the purposes of this cluster, I am going to ignore any crossover jank that could arise from having devils and parahumans in the same setting. That probably won't affect trigger events much.
I'm also going to ignore the ways that the first trigger event might alter or prevent future plot events that lead to Asa picking Denji when the War Devil strongarms her into picking a guy to turn into her boyfriend and then an anti-Chainsaw-Man weapon. (I swear that run-on sentence makes sense in context.)
With that preamble out of the way, let's get to the main amble. Four trigger events per Eternity Devil attack, eight total.
Primary Powers: Hotel Cluster
Trigger events listed in order of occurrence.
Kobeni Higashiyama
As the readers eventually learn, the Higashiyama family are dicks. Kobeni was forced to become a devil hunter because her parents told her she had to get money, so her older brother could go to college. She feels trapped as a devil hunter; she has to fight for survival or accept a worse fate. And now, she's literally trapped in a devil she was supposed to hunt, and she doesn't take it well.
In canon, her superior had to knock her out to get her to calm down. Unfortunately, a shard is going to interrupt Kobeni's meltdown.
Also worth mentioning: Part of Kobeni's initial freak out was how people trying to get out of the one hotel floor they were trapped in wound up going in impossible directions. Himeno walked down stairs and came down the up stairs, Aki went into the room in front of her and came out the one behind her.
After some consideration and reading the MOVERS doc, I think that Kobeni compressing space in front of her as a sort of ersatz super-speed fits pretty well. The initial space compression creates a burst of air—not strong enough to knock most people down, but definitely strong enough to slow them. A very good power for a devil hunter.
Hirokazu Arai
We don't know much about Arai or his freak-out. He was helping Aki hunt for the Eternity Devil, going through the same hallway and two stairwells and ten or twenty rooms for hours on end. Eventually, we're told he broke down and hid in a room.
Arai is kinda boring, but...the trigger event involved stalking fruitlessly, so I think I can work that in. Arai was trying to escape by finding something, so maybe when Arai's focused enough he can subconsciously teleport towards whatever he's focused on. Sure, that sounds unique enough.
Denji
After his dad...died, Denji was raised by the yakuza. Or more precisely, used as child laborer/devil hunter by the yakuza. After years of being a loyal dog for the yakuza, though, they turned on him, sacrificing him to the Zombie Devil. (He got better.)
Now he's on his first mission hunting devils for Public Safety, and for some reason the Eternity Devil says it'll let everyone else out if they kill Denji and feed it his heart. At first everyone (except Power) is opposed to that plan, but the Eternity Devil flexes its power over the hotel, and that changes most of their. Arai tackles Denji, Kobeni tries to stab him, and—
In canon, the next thing is Aki jumping in to take the knife. But here, one thing happens between those two events.
Denji's trigger event is mostly focused on betrayal, but the struggle and incoming knife give it a bit of a Brute bent. Denji can create several roughly dog-shaped and cat-sized minions that burst out of his torso with a spray of blood. (Denji's fine; his power fixes him afterwards.) The "dogs are skinless and much stronger than anything their size should be.
If Denji transforms into his chainsaw form before using his power, the "dogs" have chainsaw chains whirring in random tracks on their bodies. It can hurt whatever the "dog" attacks, but it also hurts the "dog," since the minion wasn't "designed" with Chainsaw Man in mind.
Himeno
An older devil hunter in public safety. She lost six partners before meeting Aki, and he's survived longer than any of them. Throughout this arc, Himeno's most distinct motivation is wanting to keep Aki safe. If Aki survives, Himeno will have someone to mourn her when she dies.
Ever since the Eternity Devil showed its ugly face, Himeno has been restraining Aki from sacrificing his lifespan to kill it. She repeatedly told him not to use that sword, and even used her ghost hand to restrain Aki just before Arai and Kobeni restrained Denji. But her control wavered, and Aki jumped in to take the knife.
You know the drill. Instead of panicking, Himeno gets a parahuman ability, and then some more parahuman abilities.
Himeno's parahuman ability is a projection made of cold hard-light, about the size of Aki, but not shaped quite enough like him for anyone else to notice the similarity consciously. It runs on autopilot, defending Himeno. It might do more mundane stuff, if conjured during a time of safety, but it's not good at most mundane chores. Especially since its hands are swords.
The projection will attack enemies with its sword-hands, but it will also throw itself in front of attacks that would hit Himeno. Also, it has a limited duration, and each attack reduces its duration. This is all fine, as long as Himeno can convince herself that the projection is nothing like Aki. Just another tool.
Primary Powers: Aquarium Cluster
Nobana Higashiyama
Turns out that, in addition to an older brother and eight sisters, Kobeni has at least one younger brother. And after his parents forced him to join the Devil Hunter Club (at least it's so he could go to college), he is even more of a nervous wreck than Kobeni was. He breaks down as soon as calmer heads confirm that they're trapped by a devil. At least he didn't try to drink out of a toilet before being calmed down...
To her great distress, Kobeni has been busy since the Eternity Devil arc. Nobana gets a bud off of her shard. He gets a space-warping flavor of teleportation, one that can't go through solid objects. (Liquids, smoke, etc are no barrier.) Nobana can't control when or where he teleports; when something freaks him out badly enough, he teleports away. His parents don't believe him when he says this.
Asa Mitaka
After a fight with her date, Asa tries to think of a way to contribute to the group. Everyone else (except that loser) is figuring out something. But what can Asa do? Then she remembers her dead mother's cell phone; since Chainsaw Man is set in the 90's, almost no high schoolers have one. She's standing on a chair, trying to get a good signal, everyone's sure that they'll be safe once Asa calls for help...and then she falls.
Asa always trips and falls at the most critical moment, whether it ruins a relay race or gets people killed during a devil attack. (Which is how her mom died, if you accept Asa's self-loathing.) And now it happened again. And as Asa stares at her mom's broken phone, the Devil Hunter Club president glares down at her and insults Asa. Says that she's not a team player, that she always fails.
I've already thought about an Asa parahuman ability, for one of the other times Asa ruined her life by tripping and breaking stuff. However: the trigger event doesn't involve murdering a beloved devil, she's less worried about alienating the people watching than she is failing them, and as far as Asa's concerned, she's trapped herself forever.
This Asa can release grayish fog. By doing so, she transforms into a pale, gaunt version of herself with secondary powers. Asa can fly inside the fog, which follows her a bit but is too heavy to let her fly very high.
Haruka Iseumi
Haruka is that president. He's been a cocky devil hunter, despite his complete lack of demonstrated ability. He's also a huge Chainsaw Man fan, to the point that he got a chainsaw pull-cord surgically implanted to look more like him. And when Asa asked him if he knew who Chainsaw Man was, Haruka claimed he was Chainsaw Man.
A few days after getting trapped by the Eternity Devil, he breaks down in front of Asa—the girl he belittled for her uselessness. He wanted to be a big strong devil hunter, to save people like Chainsaw Man does. But here he is, reduced to a helpless victim, calling for Chainsaw Man to save him.
Haruka's identity crisis comes with a free Changer power. His bones grow longer, making his limbs lankier and giving him rounded bone blades that almost look like chainsaws in silhouette. (In good light, he looks more like Katana Man, especially when he's wearing his school uniform and hat. Unfortunately, nobody in the club has seen Katana Man at this point, so none of them recognize the irony.) He's much faster than he looks, and a bit stronger, but fragile.
Denji Hayakawa (second trigger event)
Denji kept hunting devils, which had its perks and its tragedies. Most of which were the result of betrayals by Public Safety, which culminated in Denji killing the most powerful devil working with the agency and trying to live a normal life with the little girl his least dead mentor dropped in his lap, long story.
Denji's been having an alright time, going to school as Denji and killing devils as Chainsaw Man. But there's this dude, Hirofumi Yoshida, a Public Safety devil hunter. He's been interfering in Denji's life, trying to control Denji and/or Chainsaw Man. And he's at the aquarium.
A few days into their confinement, Yoshida and Denji are hanging out, and they hear someone crying out for Chainsaw Man to save him. Yoshida casually asks if there's something he can do. Denji basically says no, then asks if Yoshida can. He holds up his own, perfectly intact cell phone.
In canon, Yoshida only pauses dramatically for a moment before explaining that he can't call out—probably because time stopped. But trigger events are fast, and Denji has again been betrayed by a Public Safety devil hunter after a few days trapped inside the Eternity Devil.
This second trigger event would do two things. It would make Denji's "dogs" tougher and slower, the better to endure those chains that sometimes appear around them for some reason. Second, by focusing the sense of betrayal onto one asshole instead of the whole Public Safety squad, he only gets one big "dog" instead of a bunch of little ones.
So basically, it's twisting the power to be more concentrated and less agile.
Anyways, that's all the plausible trigger events in the two Eternity Devil incidents. Let's explain cluster mechanics, and then go over everyone's full powerset.
The Plot Twist!
This isn't actually two separate clusters. Two clusters with overlapping members, taking place inside the same devil, with time screwery around? The shards get confused sometimes, and this situation is plenty confusing.
(If you only care about powers, scroll down to the heading labeled "Kobeni powers". I colored it green so it's easy to notice.)
Six shards, seven parahumans, eight trigger events. Time both compressed and stretched. The shards end up setting up a dreamspace as part of the "cluster game," as part of them working together to understand what happened.
Incidentally, Denji's second trigger event takes effect immediately. He still experiences the trigger vision/blackout the second time, but his power already adapted using the data it got from the future, somehow. This adaptation was accidentally applied to the other hotel-group triggers, with effects that will be discussed in a bit.
The trigger game involves a dreamspace, which the seven parahumans dream of each night. The more of them that fall asleep, the sleepier each of the others gets.
The dreamspace is a hallway twisted into a figure-eight, with invisible or absent inner walls. One half of the loop has glass walls and tile floors, the other has wallpaper and carpet. There are doors in the outer curve of the hallway; each door leads to a corresponding door in the other half of the figure-eight.
The Higashiyamas show up at the ends, Denji shows up in the middle, and the other four show up in their respective halves of the loop. Each of them has a clearly-marked circle on the floor where they appear, each a different color (except for the Higashiyamas, whose circles are both a pale yellow). Depending on where in the hall they are, the circles are either weirdly-shaped and differently-colored tiles, a differently-colored patch of carpet, or (for Denji) both.
There are two external effects of this dreamscape. First, their powers can be strengthened based on where they stand when the dream ends. If Asa stays near her gray circle, her primary power gets stronger; if she instead goes closer to Denji's red circle, her Denji-related power gets stronger. If several people are near the same circle, their powers in general will be weaker; if someone is the only one at their circle, they'll get a boost. Once everyone understands how the system works, they'll probably want to spread out, but if multiple people want the same power boosted...well, parahuman abilities and most Devil contracts don't work in the dreamscape, but brute force does.
Also, the participants can "gather" power for the next day by sharing and discussing information with each other, particularly about their powers, which is a pretty blunt tool to get the humans to participate in understanding what happened. It doesn't work too well, since the part the shards don't understand is the part the cluster-members understand without much issue.
The hotel group vaguely remembers what happens in the dreamscape, but the other three don't. (Until their respective trigger events, of course.) But all seven of them participate in the game the whole way through. Denji is going to have some thoughts about seeing the people from his dreams at school...hopefully not ones he shares with Asa.
Kobeni powers
Kobeni's primary power (the spatial-distortion superspeed) is largely unaffected by her secondary powers. The one exception is that the initial compression airburst generates a bunch of smoke, which improves Kobeni's spatial awareness and helps her avoid running into walls.
Kobeni can also create a blade of cold hardlight. Aside from normal hardlight properties (like being better at piercing hard devil hides than normal steel) and the cold-ness, it's tied to another of her secondary powers; when she attacks with it, she frequently teleports to an unexpected flanking angle.
She can produce a number of small, lanky, humanoid things from her abdomen. These wither before they hit the ground, which Kobeni attributes to her undisclosed devil contract.
Arai powers
Aside from his subconscious teleportation, Arai also has subconscious super-speed functioning under the same limitations, making him yet a bit more efficient at hunting his prey. His power works best when he can actually see his quarry, or at least some clear trace of its recent presence.
His secondary powers make him better at actually dispatching said quarry, too. He's bigger, bulkier, more muscular than he used to be, and he can grow bony blades from his elbows. He can also conjure a duplicate of himself made of hardlight and mist, which floats. Arai can't control it, but it is focused on the same task as Arai is.
Himeno powers
Mixing in a bit of influence from Denji's power, Himeno's projection is a mixture of hardlight and blood that sprouts from Himeno's torso, a bit more durable than pure hardlight would be. It can also teleport, though since it won't move far from Himeno, this ability is mostly limited to more effectively throwing itself in front of attacks. Oh, and the projection can extend its arms and sword-hands.
Himeno also has two other powers. One lets her generate a personal smokescreen, the better to not be seen. The other is a short-range reactive teleport; if an attack is about to hit her despite her other defensive powers, Himeno can teleport several inches to the side. Even if this doesn't let her avoid the attack entirely, it can reduce a lethal blow to a painful shoulder wound.
Denji powers
Denji gets one power to himself, a weaker version of Kobeni's super-speed. The rest goes into his weird canine minion.
When the canine is birthed from Denji's chest, he releases a burst of smoke (which smells strongly of gasoline, for some reason); the minion continues to be surrounded in such smoke, and can "walk on it" for a couple extra inches of elevation, mostly useful for avoiding slick or messy floors.
The canine also has longer legs (the better to chase with), bony growths that serve either as weapons or as tracks for the Chainsaw Devil chains, and ablative scales of hardlight. Also, Denji can trade places with it, though not repeatedly.
Despite what Denji might hope, the canine does not look or act much like Pochita.
Haruka powers
Luckily for Haruka's Chainsaw Man impression, the actual Chainsaw Man's powers bulk out his Changer form. The rest of his powers detract from the impression, particularly the hardlight shield and misty "cape" over his back.
He also has a few powers that aren't quite as apparent. He can slide over rough ground, he has a shorter-range version of Arai's teleportation that only works when he's chasing or approaching an enemy, and he has personal-range spatial manipulation that helps him change direction quickly and sometimes helps attacks hit properly (when applied to his bone blades).
Asa powers
I mentioned that when Asa released the fog, she assumed a gaunt secondary form which would manifest secondary abilities. Putting aside abilities directly connected to the fog, those abilities are a bit limited. That form is taller, runs faster, and has clawlike fingers. It is also surrounded by a shimmering shroud of hardlight particles, which look ephemeral but are collectively solid enough to blunt impacts.
Speaking of the foggy powers, Asa can teleport within the fogbank, and also distort space to push the fog around faster than it could otherwise drift.
She can also make a creature emerge from her back, one which looks as much like a cat as Denji's does like a dog. If Asa isn't transformed, it's a bit larger, faster, and shrouded by those hardlight particles.
Nobana powers
Arai's primary power is involuntary teleportation. It activates when he freaks out, teleporting him somewhere safe; it activates when he's focused, teleporting him somewhere closer to the focus. Nobana is endlessly frustrated by his inability to control this power.
Nobana's simplest secondary power is his ability to run on air. More precisely, he runs on little bits of solid fog that materialize under his feet. They get weaker and less stable the higher they are off the ground.
He also has an alternate form. From a practical standpoint, this form's main effects are that it makes him a little more muscular, especially his legs, which are also lengthened. So he has big legs, the better to run with.
Finally, he can project a cold hardlight construct in the form of a woman with a knife. It doesn't have any of the special features of Arai or Himeno's projections, but it still throws itself at things threatening Nobana.
Nobana's non-teleportation powers are mostly under his control, but they sometimes activate by themselves. This is especially true when he's feeling fearful or anxious. Most people would find it inconvenient to turn into a leg day maniac or conjure a violent humanoid thing when they freak out, but Nobana...is not most people. I give it a week before his family kicks him onto the streets. Thank goodness there's this new Chainsaw Man fanclub willing to give him a place to sleep, if he works for them...
What's the point?
This cluster can't be turned into a fanfic. Even assuming that the readers are superfans of both Chainsaw Man and Worm/Ward, you'd have to explain so many powers and mechanics at the start. And for what? The only bit that seems potentially interesting is the shared dream room, and surely there's a better excuse for setting something like that up.
But not everything needs to be a practical fanfic. Sometimes it's just a dumb idea that you write up for fun.
P.S. Try to avoid writing a cluster where two different members get teleportation powers. If you have to, try to include some special detail in each of them that makes it easier to distinguish between the two types of teleportation most cluster members will have.

Chainsaw Man Chapter 117 Thoughts
There’s a little something in life that we like to call patience. It is a key factor that every people out there in the world have taken into account when things pertain to awaiting for certain outcomes to fall into place. I really don’t think there is a better way to describe Chainsaw Man than that which also holds very true for this specific chapter as well.
Ever since Part 2 started, we’ve followed Asa Mitaka on her current journey with Yoru, and various occasions of Denji popping into the scene whether in his devil form or his normal appearance. At the very least this was how it started off for the first fifteen chapters of Part 2, and since the beginning of this volume (#14) with Chapter 113 we’ve seen Denji present all throughout. Except for one specific little detail that’s been missing from Part 1. Denji’s inner monologue was practically nonexistent throughout the story Tatsuki Fujimoto has told. Until this very chapter, and it’s fascinating. What was going through his state of mind was what Asa told him in the previous chapter, but Denji debates with himself about the whole thing only for a penguin to fall out of the sky into his arms which left really ecstatic while the Aquarium shattered around him.
It immediately shifted over Asa standing face to face with The Eternity Devil. Some members from The Devil Hunters Club are stunned that they’re outside now, and Yoshida struck against The Eternity Devil just moments before Yoru stepped back into the picture. A single quote about Asa expressing quilt over ruining the Aquarium was one that didn’t surprised Yoru as she struck the spear that was created to destroy The Eternity Devil. Haruka was shocked by battle that just took place questioned the power as if it was familiar, and this while Denji held onto the penguin so happily. This was when Fami noted about the plan being a failure before she shifted over to Yoshida; who might’ve noticed something at the same time. That brief exchange seemed to have implied that Fami and Yoshida possible are connected in some ways. Soon after, a few other members from The Devil Hunters Club appeared, and one of the security guards took the penguin from Denji which left him rather sad.
Finally, when the dust was finally settled from that whole incident Denji walked Asa home. She talked about how the whole experience was probably the worst date she’s had to go through, but thanks Denji for walking her home. A bit of awkward tension is shown between the two teenagers until Denji addresses the request that Asa offered to grant him when he forked up the cash to her previously. Turns out the request Denji had in mind was asking Asa out on another date in a genuine manner. Even going as far as saying that he’ll teach to have a better date which made her happy affectionately. Yoru notes this phenomena that Asa is experiencing as love which was also something she felt as well because they both share the same brain together. Not a second passed when Yoru regained control of Asa’s body with her hand on Denji’s head while she chanted “Denji Spinal Sword!” bringing an end to the chapter.
All in All, this chapter of Chainsaw Man gets a Pure Perfection rating. I really loved how we finally got a bit of Denji’s inner monologue in the opening pages along with the way Tatsuki Fujimoto transitioned into the battle between Asa vs The Eternity Devil. What also really made this chapter so incredible was showcasing a bit of mystery and tension with characters like Haruka, Fami, and Yoshida potentially having a connection of sorts. The fight between Asa & Yoru against The Eternity Devil was also done so spectacularly in how fast it was, but it showcased that we as the readers know what the Eternity Devil is capable of, and this was really to showcase the strength Asa and Yoru possess together. Not only this, but also showing more growth from Denji subtly asking Asa on a date genuinely speaks volumes for his development given how far his character has come since Part 1. Which brings us to the stinging cliffhanger... the fact that Tatsuki Fujimoto practically pulled the same trick twice. They say it’s not impressive when somebody uses the same trick twice on a person, but Fujimoto just knows how to craft the story layout various moments and this was no exception to that rule either. Less than 2 chapters remain and before I’m fully caught up to latest chapter in Chainsaw man, and next chapter thoughts will be up soon but until then, I hope you all take care of yourselves out there and stay safe.
