i think there’s something to be said about how chainsaw man continually places extreme importance on the mundane pleasures of life, like watching bad movies or eating chinese takeout. i also think that it’s incredibly funny that two horsemen of the apocalypse want to stop the world ending over pizza

once again this manga is about base desire…. its about what YOU want. not anyone else. not whats good for the world. and its delicious every time. every stupid and arbitrary reason these characters have to do or not do something is soooo perfect

I have been going through the csm tag and reading takes on the new chapter and I think a lot of people are really wrong about some things?

I have seen some posts read what happened in this chapter as a commentary on hypersexuality and it making denji's life hard. And while that is also an interesting thing to think I about, I dont think that is the point.

I thought we have been over this before as a community, because part 1 also explored these themes, but having and craving physical needs is not a bad thing. I dont think the point is denji is hypersexual because he wants and sees sex as a cure to his problems.

The point is that he is once again having trouble understanding himself and the way he feels. He is hungry, he is concerned about nayuta, he wants to have sex, he is sad his pets died, he want to be chainsaw man. All at the same time. All these wants Denji has are at war with eachother at all times and this is confusing. He cant seem to have one without the other but he wants to have it all. So when he loses something dear to him because he was chasing something else (losing nayuta because he wanted to be chainsaw man for example), he starts blaming himself for being selfish.

How can he ever want or care about something so stupid when he shouldve known what his priorities are this whole time? (Like when Aki died, he was confused why eating icecream didnt make him happy. He thought eating and sleeping and living well would make him happy forever) Now it is the opposite. He has a family again and that should be what matters the most but he still also has basic needs and desires.

And dumb, selfish dreams like being chainsaw man. Like wanting to have sex.

Because of the way Denji has been living since he was a child he is having trouble understanding all these things, once again. He is trying to revert back to the way he was before when only eating or sex wouldve made him happy. When simple solutions wouldve been his cure.

But he can never go back to eating toilet paper even if he wants to.
