2024: Book 11 - Center Ice

Center Ice by Julia Connors My rating: 4 of 5 stars I know I keep mentioning in my reviews that I’m not a fan of “accidental pregnancy” and I tend to lump the “secret baby” trope in with that, because it must have been accidental if it was secret…right? That being said; this book was solid, despite the annoyance of a surprise accidental baby. Drew was an interesting character, carrying regret for the way he handled things with Audrey before he left Boston for the NHL and able to accept that he had been in the wrong, however messed up he was at the time. That’s unusual and I enjoyed it quite a bit I also enjoyed Audrey’s growth and the career she and her sister had built for themselves. She was strong and capable…but of course she held a grudge for too long. The only rub…and the whole plot kind of hinged on it, was essentially a miscommunication. And listen, I get that most issues in a relationship are because of miscommunication, but there has to be a better way. Audrey shouldn’t have stopped trying to reach him. sigh The book was good though and I did enjoy it, despite the kid that kicked off the whole plot was there, well, just for the plot. He was constantly being babysat by his relatives and I wonder if that was because the author didn’t want to actually write a kid or what? I’d still probably reread it though. Honestly we could REALLY get into the fact that a lot of the insanity in Acotar is an excellent exercise in why you can't really separate the art from the author.

Sjm's zionism is OBVIOUS in the text. The ic destabilize governments to the detriment of people they will never have to care for, steal artifacts from other countries, displace people, cause invasions, commit war crimes for 50 years "for the greater good" all while their own people are living under unchecked brutality and poverty.

They are rich megalomaniacs that care for no one but themselves and their own emotional and material satisfaction and they are PRAISED for it. In fact anyone who even remotely disagrees with the IC is almost always one of the villains in the story (Beron, Tamlin, etc) as if to condition the reader that asking questions that are critical of the IC puts you on the wrong side of the narrative morally.

All of that sounds REALLL familiar huh?
