Julia Quinn wrote the Rokesby series 10 years after Bridgerton and it shows.

I have only read half of it (GeorgexBillie and EdwardxCecilia), but already these men are simply superior. There's no toxicity, the men are honorable. They have strong personalities, but they would have never blackmailed, hurt physically, pressured a woman to consummate the marriage, or seduced a woman to take advantage of their honor and marry her. And I think we all know of the BIG issues with consent and SA in The Duke and I, and Sir Philip with Love.

I'm glad Julia moved on from those awful plot points and wrote actual gentlemen from beginning to end.

For all those who claim that what the Bridgerton men did was historically accurate and part of the genre, this proves it isn't. A jerk is a jerk, no matter the century.

You know what I need? I need two generations of Bridgertons sharing one braincell.

Give me an Edmund lives au where he, his siblings, and his cousin are all teaming up to match make the Bridgerton and Rokesby cousins. Maybe they pull Cecilia and Felix in, too. They can bring extra brain cells. Meanwhile, the Rokesby siblings, Violet and Winifred, are all on the side line waiting to do damage control.

The Rokesby cousins were easy enough to match up. Maybe a few bumps here and there. But dear God Emdund! What is with your brood and scandals?! Move over! You obviously need help!

Just almost every time a Bridgerton gets married so does at least one of their cousins. It's intresting to see the smooth sailing courtships of the cousins and then the dumpster fire that is the Bridgertons.

They're might be a betting pool in the family. Felix is the score keeper because he's the only one whose last name has never been Rokesby or Bridgerton.

Speaking of the Rokesby, I find it hilarious how George was hesitant about pursuing Billie cause he thought she liked Edward while Cecilia fled the continent cause she thought Edward loved Billie and did not want to be an obstacle between them. Edward-Billie bestie duo unknowingly causing massive inner turmoils for their future spouses will never not be hilarious 😂

Oh absolutely, it's just funny that George was getting jealous of both of his brothers really, Edward more so and he was bloody missing in America

and Poor Cecilia, just like "he doesn't love me, it's all a lie... he loves Billie" even when he's trying to pour his heart out to her... she's like "but billie!"

i can just imagine within about 5 minutes of meeting Billie Cecilia just relaxes and goes "oh right, I get it now... defo siblings vibes..."

her and George just watching from the side totally amused as their competing against one another and on the few occasions Andrew is home before Poppy happens watching them collectively tease Andrew just like "what were we worried about"

The thing about Edward was, it had all seemed so easy. Review: With Julia Quinn books I tend to omit reading the description for each novella. And solely based on the titel, a cross-atlantic adventure was not on my bingo card.

Out of the remaining eligible Rokesby brothers, my hopes for The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband to be about Edward were slim. Surley Quinn would continue writing about her dear Great Britain and not venture out of her comfort zone into the new world, right? Apparently not. My wishes to read about Edward were immediately fulfilled. However, not in the way I pictured it. 

The ”Make-Believe Husband” part of the title remained a mystery to me the first few chapters, for I was positively unsure in which direction the story was going to go. With the vast possibilities, it chose one that I find to be an acquired taste. And sadly, not particularly mine. 

The commonly known amnesia+lying trope has been quite overused in the media and book scene. I’ve never found the deception enjoyable, nor the advantage taking that inevitably happens in these scenarios. It’s a constant sort of nagging in my head, distracting me from the story and just not sitting right in my heart. 

However, I must admit that in The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband this trope was done fairly well. There were some instances that bothered me, of course, but besides that I’m exceptionally impressed at how well-executed the theme was. The novella caught my interest from the start and I read more than halfway through in one sitting. Both Cecilia Harcourt and Edward Rokesby were nuanced characters, filled with interesting niches and engrossing backgrounds. 

And somehow, my dislike for the trope waned and almost disappeared whilst reading, too enraptured in the plot itself to care too much about the details. Nonetheless, I can’t completely overlook it. Perhaps otherwise The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband would have received a higher score.

By • Olalekan Fagbade Security operatives arrests vessel laden with 350,000 liters of stolen diesel   Men of the Nigerian Navy NNS Pathfinder, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, have arrested a Marine Vessel, MV Cecilia, laden with about 350,000 liters of petroleum products suspected to be diesel. Commander, Operation Delta Safe, OPDS, Real Admiral Olusegun Ferrera, announced this on Wednesday. Ferrera, who was represented by the maritime component commander of the joint taskforce for south south of the operation Delta Safe, Navy Commodore Adedokun Siyanbade, displayed the vessel to journalists in Port Harcourt on Wednesday. He said the vessel which has not been put in use for two years was converted to a storage tank for illegal refined products. He said as part of the efforts at optimizing and ensuring that the mandate of the OPDS are actualised, the Commander Joint Taskforce south south of OPDS directed the NNS Pathfinder to conduct a convert operation in the area. He said they got intelligence that illegality ws going on within the area, adding that the operation which was conducted on 15th of August , 2023, led to the arrest of MV Cecilia. He said, ” I’m here on behalf of the Commander Joint Taskforce Operation Delta Safe , Real Admiral Olusegun Ferrera. We are here this morning to show you arrest of a vessel that was involved illegalities in this general area. “As part of the efforts at optimizing and ensuring that the mandate of the OPDS are actualised the Commander Joint Taskforce South south of OPDS directed the NNS Pathfinder base on credible intelligence to conduct a convert operation in this area and the intelligence was based on the fact of illegality going on within this area” “The operation was conducted yesterday, 15th of August , 2023 and the operation lead to the arrest of MV Cecilia with a vessel that ought to be a service vessel but has been converted to storage tank of illegally refined products suspected to be AGO. The vessel has the capacity all together including the fuel and water capacity of about 350,000 litres. “The water tanks has been converted as a storage tank for this illegal products and the vessel has not been to sea for the past two years. It was expected to be under maintenance but it’s being used for a different purpose where by people from illegal refinery sites bring their products to this place to discharge whereby other people also come here to purchase the product” “So, the vessel has been arrested and necessary procedures will be taken in line with extant regulation biding operation Delta Safe operation and I am also to inform you that in Rivers State on Monday two tankers were also arrested the tankers were laden with 30,000 liters of products suspected to be crude oil were also arrested by Joint sector 3 of Operation Delta Safe including land component and water component “They were caught siphoning crude oil from a dug out pit in Obio general area of Rivers State. So, for this vessel and those tankers as well necessary actions will be taken in line with extant regulation.” He said the suspects as well as the vessel and products will be handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) foe prosecution. #arrest #Diesel #securityoperatives
