What’s not clicking? Mary Shelley, one of the most important gothic horror authors of her time and mother of science fiction, as a teenager made love to her future husband on the grave of her mother Mary Wollstonecraft, one of the most important feminist authors of her time and mother of modern feminist expository prose. She didn’t know her mother because she died days after giving birth after a procedure removing her placenta because the surgeon didn’t wash his hands. She grew up spending much of her time there and learning to write her own name from tracing her mother’s name and naturally wanted to confess to the married man she was courting at the site and immediately bang him. Simple.

Can’t believe Jane Austen wrote Pride and Prejudice in the 2000s
And in 2015 Emily Brontë released literary clsssic Wuthering Heights
Thank God someone paved the way for them…

That time Paul McCartney stole a London street sign (probably)
Whilst perusing this photo set, my attention was caught by the street sign in the background, fixed to the wall:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sign says Wellington Road NW; this road runs parallel to Cavendish Ave.
Tumblr media
So at first I thought he and Heather were somewhere out on Wellington Road, but this didn't make sense: there are no places to swim (except the canal at the southeast end of Wellington, but, gross), and anyway Heather's wearing a nightgown. But as I looked more closely, I realized the photos were actually taken (by Linda, I assume, perhaps in 1969) the backyard of his house at Cavendish. The crappy paving stones and the multicolor brick wall match other photos at roughly the same time:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note also the railing and steps, which match the fifth photo of Paul with his leg up.
But where did the sign come from?
These street signs were and are ubiquitous in Westminster. The original signs (installed in the 1950s) are cast iron and use the Crown Estate’s gilted crown emblem and relief lettering in a serif font. They look like this (note the Cavendish Place sign in this lot!):
Tumblr media
In 1967, they started replacing them with a new style of sign, designed by Sir Misha Black. From this article:
If you ask most people what the typical London street sign looks like, they will probably describe something that looks very like the classic Westminster design: white enamel with neat black lettering and the postal district in red, then the name of borough in red across the bottom, all in sans serif. This classic and copyrighted design – many genuine examples of which are currently being auctioned online by Catherine Southon Auctioneers – feels historic but was in fact conceived as recently as 1967 by Misha Black’s Design Research Unit. Black was commissioned by Westminster City Council to design a simple and striking template that would replace the existing anarchic street sign policy – which he did with great success.
Here's the new Wellington Road sign:
Tumblr media
The old Wellington Road sign ended up in Paul's backyard sometime after 1967. I think he must have seen it on the side of the road and picked it up while he was walking around, or fished it out of a skip. Or maybe he straight up nicked it while they were doing the sign replacement. Who can say?
I'd love to know how long he kept it fixed to the wall.
In conclusion, Paul McCartney stole a street sign (I think).

Wow! THIS is how you control the narrative Meghan. A masterclass by Catherine. by u/Mistressbrindello
Wow! THIS is how you control the narrative Meghan. A masterclass by Catherine. https://ift.tt/aFzLcIs their first joint engagement since the POW finished chemo, the Prince and Princess of Wales invited budding photographer Liz Hatton who is only 16 and battling an aggressive tumour to take the official photos. So, an event which honoured British luminaries such as Mark Cavendish, was not open to the Royal Rota, there were no press invitations at all, and the only photographs available are all owned by Liz. This is a brilliant move; a way of controlling the narrative after all the hoo ha over the mother's day photo as well as giving copyright to a young woman whose life will be cut tragically short by cancer (rather than the press). The press have only bare bones stories as it's being shared by the PPOW on social media and they knew nothing about the event (I've included a link to the PPOW twitter). You don't need to "control the media" by refusing to let the invisikids out in public or by merching the hell out of every opportunity. This is classy and says a lot with no words at all.https://ift.tt/N39uVE4 (so far non story) story in the mail: https://ift.tt/Q4IqdlD post link: https://ift.tt/S8I0kuY author: Mistressbrindello submitted: October 02, 2024 at 11:06PM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit disclaimer: all views + opinions expressed by the author of this post, as well as any comments and reblogs, are solely the author's own; they do not necessarily reflect the views of the administrator of this Tumblr blog. Soooo... Some friends and I decided to run a bi-weekly creative event where we improvise a random OC xD We pick a Jojo part, pick a name, RNG the biometric traits so we all have a starting "concept" and then we run wild, giving both a design and a backstory! It's mind blowing how different the same concept turned out! Meet version one of the bi-weekly OC, Eleanor Cavendish!
Tumblr media
Want to see how my fellow artists ran the concept? ♥ See @theschneckenhouse 's version [HERE]! ♥ See @white-nolse 's version [HERE]! ~ Backstory under the cut ~
Eleanor Cavendish - Born in New York as Eleanor Vanderbilt, an American noveau riche, daughter of Cornelius Vanderbilt, one of the first self-made magnate who made a fortune in railroads and shipping. A rather refined, yet quiet lady, her passive nature became her undoing as her mother Frank Armstrong coveted the status that came with the idea of having a nobility title, something constitutionally forbidden in America after the civil war. So, against her daughter's wishes, she promised her to the Baron of Northbourne, Alexander Cavendish, a 59 year old old-school noble that had more poise than funds to keep his state running. Catherine tried to run away with her sweetheart of the time, the son of the Vanderbilt's cook, but the boy was quickly 'dispatched to work at the ferry station' and she was locked in her bedroom against her will until the day of the marriage. Once in England against her own will, married to a man she found disgusting, she met the ever elusive Dio Brando at a party held to celebrate Jonathan's entrance to the university. She saw in him the freedom and danger she was doomed to never have in her marriage and he found a quick piggybank to use for his whims.

Nor did Catherine still hold quite the place she had as Henry's adviser in matters of state. The rise of Thomas Wolsey in the eighteen months after Flodden was extraordinary: archbishop of York and lord chancellor, and cardinal too. As his contemporary biographer Cavendish put it, Wolsey 'ruled all under the king'.

Books Read, May 2023
I've thought of starting a book blog before, but alas - I never have enough to say when I don't have someone to bounce off of, or at least can't figure out how to say it. Plus, I mostly read nonfiction, so...probably not the most thrilling reviews. In lieu of that...here's what I read in May.
Courting Scandal: The Rise and Fall of Jane Boleyn, Lady Rochford - James Taffe
Jane Boleyn: The True Story of the Infamous Lady Rochford - Julia Fox
Young and Damned and Fair: The Life of Catherine Howard, Fifth Wife of King Henry VIII - Gareth Russell
Inside the Tudor Court: Henry VIII and His Six Wives Through the Writings of the Spanish Ambassador Eustace Chapuys - Lauren Mackay
Wolsey: The Life of King Henry VIII's Cardinal - John Matusiak
Cardinal Wolsey - Mandell Creighton
Remembering Wolsey: A History of Commemorations and Representations - J. Patrick Hornbeck II.
The Life and Death of Thomas Wolsey Cardinal: Once Archbishop of York and Lord Chancellor of England - Sir William Cavendish
Obviously, I got 'on a tangent,' as I do sometimes. I've gathered this may have something to do with the ADHD, though not from particularly official sources, so don't quote me on that. In this case, it was partially a return to old tangents; while I'd not read the last three books on this list before, my reading journal indicates I previously went on a bit of a tangent on the subject of Cardinal Wolsey in February and March of 2021. I was also immensely pleased, in my Kindle recommendations earlier this month, to find a book on Chapuys; he was always one of those background figures in the historical fictions I read as a kid that I wished I knew more about. Gotta read his letters myself sometime, since it seems, from the Google, that they can be viewed online in English translation.
I'll give Lauren Mackay this: she's much more honest than a lot of authors are when she reached places where the information simply no longer exists, or at least hasn't been recovered yet. There was enough 'prose' to keep it interesting, but not excessive attempts to state things about the ambassador that she couldn't back up with evidence. This, I felt, was in sharp contrast to Julia Fox; I loved the descriptions of the court, the attempts to tell a story, and these things definitely have a place in history-writing, but here they were fairly blatantly...fluffy, I suppose. Now, I'm hardly one to complain of fluff, rather fond of soft things myself, but it was glaringly obvious, when she said Lady Rochford must have been thinking or feeling something, that she was essentially filling in the blanks with a story of her own devising. Sometimes the 'costume' of historicity the text wore was something it looked 'comfortable' in and sometimes it was quite obviously a poorly-researched French hood shoved awkwardly onto the head of an actress with zero knowledge of sixteenth century fashion and how to wear it, but there were always leaps from one point to another. In contrast to that, I felt that Gareth Russell balanced his reader-drawing prose fluff with his historical analysis much more adeptly when considering Catherine Howard; I've read his book more than once over the past couple of years and expect I'll read it again in years to come. I came away with no impression of James Taffe's work, alas, except that he clearly wrote his book as an exasperated rebuttal to Julia Fox; I was, unfortunately, very sleep-deprived when I read that, so I'll have to read it again sometime. My lack of sleep, however, is not why I read the rebuttal first and the book it was responding to second...even though I'd had Fox's book in my physical TBR shelves for several years and only stumbled across Taffe's the day I bought it. I'm told I've always had a tendency to do things in the wrong order and somehow make it work anyway, so why mess with a good system at this point?
As for one book being a rebuttal to another - here we come to one of my favorite things about reading history, which is to say, how often historians blatantly attack or support each other in their writing. In the last couple of chapters of Remembering Wolsey, I was irrationally delighted to see the author offer opinions on every book I read during my 2021 tangent as well as one of the ones I read this time around. It's amusing (to me) to sort of...get to know the different personalities: "hm, yes, I can see why someone would say that about Ives," or "yeah, I never did get Starkey's position on that, all things considered," or "ha, that was almost the exact same thing I said two years ago about Ridley!" It's...oddly cozy, I suppose.
Hornbeck was especially interesting as he wasn't writing about what happened - he was writing about the trends in how people have remembered what happened over the past few centuries. There were interesting thoughts on historical fiction throughout, especially near the end; that one may warrant a full independent review, if I can muster the energy to write it out. For now, however - there's all the reading I did in May.

Some insight about the creepy relationships into the british royal family:
- Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were third cousins through Queen Victoria
- Princess Diana and King Charles III were seventh cousins once removed via William Cavendish, 3rd Duke of Devonshire
- Prince William and Catherine are fourteenth cousins once removed via King Edward III
To be fair, nowdays british royals don't have an obsession for close cousins or uncle/niece marriage, so there is more genetical diversity around there and they didn't seem to have worrying medical conditions. However, the only one who didn't marry into family happens to be Harry, but seems that also him and Meghan were distant cousins somehow. This adds creeps to another level.
Rumors says that Meghan is apparently a descendant of King Edward III through her father, Thomas Markle. Given Meghan’s royal ancestor, she and Harry are 17th cousins.
N. B. Camilla descends from Charles Lennox, 1st Duke of Richmond one of the illegitimate children of Charles II, meaning that her last common ancestor with her husband is James VI and I. They are ninth cousins once removed. This is not in the main list, because Charles and Camilla don't have children together.
Edit: A person's contribution here
Edit 2: Another one here

WANTED CONNECTIONS PAGE: JIANG YEYING ( sun zhenni )'s secret relationship - Manny would need to be aged down by 5 and mun would need to be contact to determine if the connection could be aged up by 1 year, PRISCILLA CAVENDISH ( emily bader )'s betrothed, PRISCILLA CAVENDISH ( emily bader )'s romantic dalliance, LADY HAZEL MONTGOMERY ( olivia cooke )'s former crush, LADY HAZEL MONTGOMERY ( olivia cooke )'s other former crush, ASRIEL HALIFAX ( oliver jackson cohen )'s two old friends - this would also be CATHERINE YORK ( freida pinto )'s husband, or PRISCILLA CAVENDISH ( emily bader )'s source.

ㅤ ㅤ⸻ ㅤ ㅤPROFILE.
ㅤ ㅤthyora, the name given to her from birth, remained surrounded by mystery, an enigma carefully guarded by her parents. like any child, she grew up in an environment surrounded by books and music, developing a special appreciation for these arts which would shape each of her personalities over the course of time.
ㅤ ㅤwhen she reached the appropriate age, she was sent to the time lord academy and forced to face the vortex, as tradition dictated for so many years. her father, always deeply concerned about his daughter, didn’t know how she would react to the sight of such an imaginative mind. nonetheless, thyora was slightly disturbed, but nothing to make her lose control of her creative mind or stop her from attending the academy. for a while, she became more contemplative than usual, but soon returned to her original personality. without any problems, she entered the academy and was admitted to the patrex chapter, known for being the home of artists, which came as no surprise to anyone who knew little thyora.
ㅤ ㅤduring her years at the academy, she was known for being a chaotic rebel, yet kept her learning up to date ensuring nobody could eclipse the merits of her intelligence. eventually, she was deeply influenced by the stories she heard about the doctor, a time lord who travelled the universe in a tardis, making a daydream about being able to do something like that.
ㅤ ㅤtime passed and the inevitable time war erupted, with time lords and daleks fighting fiercely. battles of all kinds took place simultaneously and like every gallifreyan, she was present, supporting her people and wanting to put an end to the daleks once and for all. it was during one of the heaviest and most violent clashes when thyora regenerated for the first time, almost dying permanently. that’s because she was almost hit a second time during her regeneration. fortunately, she was rescued and taken to her father.
ㅤ ㅤthe time lord, in complete despair and noticing the escalating war, decided his daughter would survive regardless of gallifrey’s fate. he made her lose consciousness, which wasn’t difficult for someone who had just gone through her first regeneration cycle, and used a chameleon arch to transform her into a human and transferred her time lord essence and memories into a reliquary necklace. somehow, taking advantage of the chaos, he stole a tardis and put his daughter inside with the necklace. the coordinates? a quiet, safe place for her to live in peace.
ㅤ ㅤfor more than ten years, thyora no longer existed. only catherine cavendish, duchess of devonshire, existed as the youngest daughter of the dukes of devonshire. a magnificent, vivacious and extremely creative woman, was the pride of her family, friends and acquaintances. however, after a series of strange and chaotic events, catherine opened the reliquary necklace and regained all her memories. it was thyora again. at some cost, she used the tardis to return home in the hope she could still help with the war, but she arrived to devastation. everyone had died. she was alone in the universe, the only time lady to survive the time war, but at what cost?
ㅤ ㅤshe began to travel the universe, at first full of doubts, resentment and sadness. but over time, the universe taught her how within infinity there is always room for hope, companionship and love.

~The Devonshire House Ball~
Tumblr media
In 1892, William Cavendish the 8th Duke of Devonshire married the widowed Duchess of Manchester, Louise von Alten, whom he had known/ met several years before. Louise known as the 'Double Duchess' was a famous hostess and Devonshire House as well as Chatsworth became the focus of entertainment on a scale that had not been seen since the 6th Duke's time.
The Devonshire House Ball was one of the most extravagant and high society celebrations of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. Those invited to the Diamond Jubilee Ball (The devonshire house ball) came in full fancy dress.
For the Devonshire House Ball, the dress code was “allegorical or historical costumes before 1815”. This was used an encouragement to the guests to give their imaginations full rein for their costumes and, since it was the main subject of interest that season, everyone wanted to have the fun of keeping their outfits a secret while at the same time trying to discover what others were wearing. Guests were instructed to dress around the theme of certain courts, both mythical and temporal.  On the day the costumes ranged from goddesses, figures from paintings, and historical kings and queens, including the court of Elizabeth I, Queen Guinevere & the Knights of the Round Table, the court of Louis XV and Louis XVI of France and the court of Catherine the Great of Russia. Many guests took much time and effort with their costumes, and due to the popularity of fancy dress balls, there was a plethora of books and specialist hire shops on hand to offer advice. More than one guest, in their desire for accuracy (and to stand out) suffered through the evening with uncomfortable headdresses and props.

Attendance to the ball was strictly by invitation only but it is fair to say that anyone who was anyone was on the guest list were of high society. More than 700 invitations to the Ball were sent out a month before the event, although reports of the event stated numbers up to 3,000 guests. Most of the British Royal family were there, including the Prince of Wales in the costume of a Grand Master of the Knights Hospitallers of Malta accompanied by his wife the Princess of Wales as Queen Marguerite de Valois. Their son, the Duke of York, the future King George V, was dressed as the Earl of Cumberland while his wife, the Duchess of York, later Queen Mary, wore a costume as a Lady of the Court of Marguerite de Valois in deference to her mother in law.
The costumes were prescribed, guests couldn’t turn up wearing just anything. There were seven categories from which to choose; the Elizabethan Court, the Louis XV and XVI Court, the Court of Maria Theresa and the Court of the Empress Catherine II of Russia, plus the Oriental, the Italian Procession and the 17th century.

Louise Duchess of Devonshire Ball Gown
The duchess of Devonshire arrived to the event in A ball gown with an under-robe of cloth of silver, wrought all over with silver thread and brilliants, and with an over-dress of green and gold shot-silk gauze, embroidered to the waist with green and gold metalwork, decorated with jewels. A long train of turquoise velvet, embroidered in gold to an oriental design, was attached to the shoulders. A bodice of gold cloth and lace was fitted over a whalebone corset into which her waist was tightly laced. The headdress that went with it has not survived, but it can be seen in Lafayette's photograph. The dress was made for Louise, Duchess of Devonshire by the House of Worth to wear at the celebrated Diamond Jubilee Ball at Devonshire House. It was a fancy dress ball and Louise attended as Queen Zenobia, the warrior Queen of Palmyra. The Duchess may have got the idea for the theme of the dress from Inigo Jones's costume designs for Court Masques that are in the drawing collections at Chatsworth.
