Black Hair

At first they thought someone had a black cat that just srhed a lot of hair everywhere, that was quickly dismissed of the possibilities when they found that the only cat that lived in the tower was from a third year and was crearly a white cat, so the questions kept coming. Where was all this black hair coming from??.

Remus was calmly reading in an armchair in the common room like any other day, resting his legs on one arm and his head in the other, when suddenly a ball of long black hair jumped on his lap and trhew the book away demanding kisses, which he was content to oblige.

“would you mind to tell me why i´m upstairs in our room all by my own, when you are here being all cute reading a book like there is nothing wrong in the world?”. Sirius said, after demanding his kisses, raising and eyebrow.

Remus kissed his forehead and made an attempt to reach for his book in the floor while saying. “well, i was trying to have a little hour of peace to read this, which i can´t crearly have in any place of this castle-”.

“Stiiiill not answering why im all alone and without cuuuddlees.” Sirius singsonged while poking his cheek with is forefinger.

Remus batted his hand away before finally retrieving his book giving a little “Aha” of victory, “you know, if you so badly wanted cuddles you could´ve just asked” He said cleaning the dust that the book just got from the floor.

“Well im asking now rigth?”

“Actualy you didn´t asked, you just barged in demanding to know why i was here” he smiled.

Sirius sighed and rolled his eyes playfully before saying “Oh my beloved Remus would you be so kind to acomppany me upstairs to have some cuddles and maybe a little nap?”.

“Mmmm, nah”

“Wha- Moonyy!”

He laughed while caressing the cheek of his boyfriend “Alrigth alrigth, yes Sirius, i would like that” Sirius smiled and got up taking Remus hand and leading him upstairs.

Well, fuck the book. Thought Remus while following him.

They were happily cuddleling in Sirius bed almost falling in sleep, Sirius head was on Remus chest, his arms hugging him from beyond his arms and his rigth leg across the other boys body, while Remus just hugged him from the waist and buried his nose in his hair.

It was almost perfect until, shit, thought Remus, i gotta pee now. he grimaced at the thought of having to disturb Sirius while he was looking so cute sleeping there. well, what´s worst, waking Sirius for some seconds? or holding it in and being so miserable that i couldn’t go back to sleep?.

He opted for the lattest, trying to be the most carefull he could ever be to move Sirius out of the way withouth waking him, crearly didn’t work cause Sirius stirred a little and opened his eyes a bit, mumbling “where you going?”. Remus could melt in the place for how cute he looked there, but things had to be done first.

“I just need to pee, i’ll be back in a bit” he gave him one quick kiss in the forehead and rushed to the bathroom.

He did his thing, washed his hands and just when he was about to go back to bed he glanced to the floor and noticed that it was almost covered in black hair, the fuck is this, he thought, he frowned and stood there for almost two minutes wondering where did this came from. After a while he just resigned to ask padfoot later if he knew anything about it, now it was time for a nap.

Ok no nap now, Sirius was awake sitting against the headboard, ankles crossed at the end of the bed, while playing with his wand to fly some socks that he found.

“Hey, you took some time” he said turning his head at Remus while smiling

“Yeah, sorry, i got a little distracted there. .” well now that he is awake what do we loose for ask “hey do you know anything about the bathroom floor being covered in black hair?” he asked while pointing with his tumb to the bathroom.

“Covered in black hair?” he repeated tilting his head a bit and frowning in confussion “i have no idea what are you talking about”.

“Huh, weird, mm surely it is James or Peter working on a prank” he shrugged and started walking back to the bed.

“Without us?, rude” he did a fake gasp offended.

Remus sitted back in the bed, crossing his legs while looking at Sirius “Mhm, soo should we keep on the nap?”.

Sirius oppened his mouth to say something before a growl of his belly interrupted making Remus chuckle, “or we could quickly go downstairs and look for something to snack and come back here?”.

“Yes, good idea”

They bot got up and walked trough the dorm to go downstairs, in the travel Remus could not help but noticing that there was also black hair in the floor of the dorm and in the beds and things from the others marauders, he could also not help but notice that there was too, black hair in some steps of the stairs and in some places of the common room.

Ok this doen’t make sense.

“Alrigth so i summoned you here tonigth to discuss a matter thats been bothering me”

“The stage is yours Moony” James said from his spot in the floor.

They were all sitting crosslegged in the floor making some kind of circle in the middle of the nigth, Sirius sat a littlel closer to Remus but no one cared or noticed to mention it.

“I recently been founding lots of black hair scattered all over the bathroom floor, the dorm, stairs and common room, and i was wondering if this was a new idea of a prank that you were working on, because this is actually kinda annoying, or what the hell is hapening here” he leaned back on his hands waiting for some answers while James and Peter just looked at him confused.

“Uh, well i can certainly say that this wasn’t me. . . Wormtail did you did something?” he turned to Peter with a little tilt and a confused frown.

Peter returned the frown saying “No? i was with Dorcas and Marlene playing some chess”.

“And Lily and i went to shop something with Mary” he turned back to Remus

“So you two had nothing to do with this?” Sirius asked now.

“Nah” they said in unison.

“Well now im way more confused” Sirius said while crossing his arms over his chest.

Sirius yawned before saying that they should keep with this tomorrow, cause they didn’t have class, and went to bed. James and Peter agreed and went to their own beds aswell. Remus stayed in the floor, still resting on his hands, in deep thought.

If it wasn’t any of us, then where did all th-

“Rem? you coming?”Sirius snapped him out of his trance while changing his trousers with some pijamas ones and laying bare chest withouth shirt.

“Yeah, just, let me change really quick” he said getting up to his feet and going to his trunk.

Once they were all in bed they farewell eachother good nigth and Sirius closed the curtains of his bed so he and Remus were in pitch black. They hugged like they did a little hours back, with now the hope to finally going to sleep, Remus kissed him good nigth in the lips then in the top of the head and started drifting to sleep.

“Well this is getting ridiculous”

“Rigth you are Moony” said Peter while scratching the back of his neck

Its just been two days and the tower was starting to fill in with blak hair everywhere, the other students asked them if this was some kind of disgusting prank or something because it wasn’t really funny, they assured them that they didn’t know what was going on and that they would investigate what was happening.

After some snopping around, and slicing on the stairs to the girsl dorms, they found thay the only places in the tower that had back hair were the common room, the stairs and their room, the others room were perfectly clean, ignoring the cothes scattered on the floors, but clean.

They also found that the elves, although they cleaned every day, didn’t know what was going on because no matter how hard they cleaned, the hair just kept coming back.

Sirius at some point suggested that they were being played some kind of prank from the slytherins as a revenge cause the Marauders room and common were the only ones being affected, Peter denied this theory by asking some of his chess friends from slythering if they knew what was going on, but they just replied saying that almost all the slyherins were focused in other importants things than pranking some stupid thing and claiming that if the slytherins were going to prank them, then it would be something more humiliating.

With the wind coming in now and then from the open windows, some sixth year suggested it to try and get rid of the hair, the hair started to be more in the air than the floor, and it started to itch Remus nose. He sometimes felt that he could recognice the sent, but it quicly disapeared when he sneezed and make everything fly away, again.

Sirius asked Remus to take the afternoon outside that day so that he could stop sneezing and Remus was so glad he requested it cause he didn’t know if he could take it any longer. They were laying in the grass under some trees not far away from hogsmeade, far enough so that no one could catch them there, Remus was sitting against the tree holding a book just above Sirius head, who was laying his head on his lap and drifting to sleep, and reading peacefully enjoying finally the stop of the sneezes.

After a while he got almost to the end to the book when he noticed that Sirius was to silent, he glanced down at him and saw a sleeping Sirius with his mouth sligthly open. Then a thought stroke him, recently Sirius was asking to nap almost everyday and every morning, no matter the time nor place, but when it came to the time to go to actually sleep he stayed minutes awake fuzzing in the bed not being able to fall to sleep until an hour (or so to speak) later. Remus never really paided mind to it, thinking that maybe Sirius was looking for the rigth position to being comfortable.

He remembered that he once read something about sleeping troubles, but couldn’t place exactly what the words said about it, so he decided to look for it later that afternoon.

He blew the dust off the book, finally finding it after some 30 long and insufferable minutes, and roamed through the pages to find the information needed. Once he found it, he read with wide eyes, seeming now to understand everything that was bottering his bussy brain.

Remus looked up from the book with a little frown, his head working hard, when suddenly, Aha, an idea got to him, but for it he had to talk with Prongs and Wormtail first. He took he book, said goodbye to the librarian, and stormed of the library straigth to his friends.

“Good nigth, Moony”

“Good nigth, Padfoot”

Sirius closed his eyes and so did Remus, just for a minute, then carefully got up, this time not waking the “sleeping Sirius”, and went to the stairs where James and Peter were waiting for him. Remus told them what he found in the book two hours ago, when they stoped the “ooouh” of realisations, he then proceed to explain the idea that he buldied, hoping that it worked and not to just go to the pill of problems and puzzels in his head.

They waited hidden behind some couches in the common room, sometimes almost failing to stay awake, being the most silent that they could. Remus was starting to think that he was wrong and all was for nothing, he went to open his mouth to indicate that maybe they should just forget it and go to bed, when a noice startled the three boys and make them stay very still.

Thats when they saw it, or maybe, they saw him. The three boys widened their eyes and gaped their mouths to the sigth of a black dog that entered the common room through the stairs with one of Peters shoes in his mouth.

“THATS MY SHOE!!” Peter scremed-whispered pointing to the dog.

James shushed him giving a little whak to the back of his head, while Remus kept looking at the dog, quite didn’t blieving what his showed him.

The thing is, that this dog was no one else than the one and only Sirius, in anymagus form, Black, well, animagus form and sleep walking Sirius Black. What Remus found earlier in the book were simptoms of sleep walking, connectng the dots to Sirius fatigue all day and trouble sleeping at nigth, and weird black hair that appeared every nigth, he concluded that Sirius sleep walked in animagus form, being him the answer to all the questions that Remus was asking.

The three Marauders silently beamed at each other for discovering the mistery, now with only one last task at hand, tell Sirius when he waked up and find the way to make him stop doing it. They leaved the doors that went to their room open figuring that Padfoot would go back to bed for the morning, like he did every nigth they realised, and went back to bed satisfied with the work they done today.

Padfoot went back to bed almost an hour before the sun came up, turned into Sirius and snuzzled his way in Remus arms, this time Remus waited half awake-half asleep, and grapped his arms around him when he noticed it. Buried his nose on SIrius hair and drifting to sleep.

I knew that i recognized the scent, your scent.

The next morning they talked to Sirius and explained all to him, who didn’t believe it at the beginning but then just acept it. They then spend another two days trying to make him stop doing it, it was more harder than it seemed, there were a lot of talks about what was troubling him so much to make him be sleep deprived, and after a lot of work, and encouragin words and kisses from Remus, Sirius stopped doing his midnigth travels.

That nigth Remus and Sirius spent all nigth sleeping hugging eachother without any of the two getting up in the middle of the process, making both of them finally having a good nigth sleep.

It was 5:50 pm and you were at camp. It was the last week of camp infact. You wanted to do something special with your boyfriend so you decided to go swimming with him, you ran into his room! “Nick!!!!! Can we pleaseeeee go swimming?” you said as you looked at him with puppy eyes. “yeah sure whatever.” the aussie said. you could tell he wasnt really paying attention..BUT he said yes so you ran to the pool house and got towels. you found your bathing suit and his. When you walked back in he wasnt on his bed and instead he was on the xbox. you frowned as you saw him comfortably sitting on his red and green neon gaming chair controller in hand playing doors on roblox. He was on door 32 in some long ass hallway. “babe-”

“SHUTUP!!”

You flinched when he yelled because he was never mad. You didnt understand this. As you peeked at the screen you saw him running with intense music. since you thought this was stupid and he promised to go with you... you clicked the shining white xbox logo button. He dropped the controller and stared at you with dark angry pupils. what you never understood was the fact that it was only after some strange animal in the woods attacked him that he started being mean and playing roblox. You thought it was a coping mechanisim. Your thoughts were interupted when he grabbed your wrist harshly and screamed in your face.

“FUCK YOU WHORE GET OUT NOW BEFORE I TURN INTO DOORS SCREECH!!!”

He yelled as he hit your arm. You cried and ran as fast as you could out of there.

*20 mins later*

you were sitting in the halls when you felt a tap on your shoulder when you glanced over you saw your sad looking boyfriend. You frowned at the sight of him.

“I’m sorry. Im so sorry okay? I didnt mean to I dont know wha- please just come play doors with me.”

“then just watch.. i just want to be around you again.”

While thinking of your next move you saw how sad he was. so you nodded our head and he brought you to his room and sat you down on his bed as he skipped over to his gaming chair. you petted his cat “cupcake” as you stared at his window. His cat showed loads of affection towards you even more than she showed nick which always made you giggle. You stopped petting the cat when you saw nick die and go back to the lobby. he stood up and walked over to the corner of the room and stood over a litter box.

“nick? What are you doin-”

he pulled out his pp and started pissing!!!

“AHHH DUDE WTF STOP THAT SHIT!!!” You yelled as you slapped your hands over your eyes. shortly after he stopped peeing and pulled up his pants sitting back down in his gaming chair. “NICK WTF MAN WHYD YOU DO THAT!” you yelled. “WHAT??? *30 minutes later* you were on your phone and nick was STILL on that game. you heard him start grunting you glanced over and assumed he was mad at the game. You kept watching youtube videos about tickle tipson. You pasued your video when you heard louder grunting. you watched him closely when all of the sudden the grunting.. stopped. thats when you saw something brown dripping down his leg and a stinky smell. “Nick... dude. did you just poop your pants.”

“mhm didn’ wann’ get up.” he said casually. You screeched a loud screech and ran out and down the halls when you fell into dylan. “Y/n? Whats wrong!?” he said with a concerned tone. You went from scared to burting out into laughter “What?” dylan said while smiling “DUDE DYLAN. NICK SHIT HIS PANTS AND HE PISSED IN THE CATS LITTER BOX BECAUSE HE DINT WANT TO GET UP FROM ROBLOX DOORS!” YOu said dying from laughter.”WHAT SERIOUSLY!” dylan said.

You nodded and dylan ran to the room and started screaming at nick to wash his poopy butt. After 30 minutes of yelling he finally head to the shower. you took his clothes for him and started putting away old laundry in your room. THAT IS WHEN> AND I AM NOT SHITTING YOU THE GUY ON THE RINGE SPORTS TV CHANNEL WAS SAYING SOMETHING ABOUT ”letting it rip...”

Im so fucking stressed today. I woke up and my roommate let her dog out of her room to pee and the dog just fucking pissed on the carpet. I had to be the one to clean it up since said roommate went back to bed. Then, after cleaning the litter boxes, her kitten took a dump and stepped in his own shit and tracked it around the house. So I had to clean him off and then clean the floors. By the time I was done with that I had to go to my doctor's appointment, so I asked her to clean the litter boxes again so neither of the cats would step in poop again, but when i got back she hadn't cleaned the boxes and BOTH of the cats hate stepped in shit. So I had to clean her cat AGAIN, my cat, the floors and litter boxes AGAIN, and as soon as I was done with that, both cats hopped back into the litter boxes while damp and got litter all over them. So I clean them for the THIRD TIME. We are currently on our way out to eat, so hopefully everything stays clean while we're gone. I haven't told her I'm upset yet since her and her husband just let me move in with them, but at the same time she could have just cleaned the litter box when I asked instead of playing animal crossing.

trauma dump because im losing my mind and no one’s listening

idk if im manic definitely feeling a bit psychotic rn . everyone in this house treats me like a fuckinh nanny cleaning and shit just cause i’m homeless . the dishes have been in the dish washer for 2 days clean and everyone has been home except me . i hate the.bitch i live with because she’s a fucking spoiled brat that does coke all day and drinks and never cleans after her self. she even curses at her parents that pay for her college and car and gas and food . mY FUCKING MOTHER MADE ME BUY FOOD FOR HER AND PAY FOR GROCERIES my mom would beat me if i even tried to curse at her . im only here because my families house is an episode of hoarders and i was being woken up everyday asked for money . my money was getting taken out of my bank account cause my mother expects me to take care of her . i have no one . i have no parents or friends im on my last fucking shit rn i have so much trauma i relive everyday . i can’t even go back to my moms because she took my room and ruined it to the point u can’t even see the floor . my sister sleeps on the couch there . there’s cat pee all over the floors and majority of the food is expired . and my mom acts like im supposed to be there struggling with them all. i don’t know whether to kill myslef or killevrryome else that has fucked up my life .

i have no car , no money , and everything that i have feels like it’s just gonna get taken away from me like it always has

i grew up as a kid praying every night to some fake ass god to not take our house away and praying my mom would win the lottery so we can live in. a clean nice home with food . what ever fucking god the rich prays to is NOT my god .

my mom has a warrant out for her arrest because she bounced a check trying to buy us food when i was 8. i vividly remember her screaming crying on the phone in the car outside the grocery store to the people . i can’t go through anything else .

crying everynight after we got evicted from our last house after i watched my mom have an affair on the only person keeping the family financially stable because her selfish ass . and she thinks that it was good i went through all this . she grew up perfect in a perfect family with a big house and they always went on vacation. and she thinks nothing i went through should effect me

fuckinh sleeping on the floor for months because i didn’t want to share a bed with her . begging for a therapist for years only for her to put it off

getting told i was the reason she wanted to kill herself when i was 14 . getting called a bum and useless when i was 15 just cause i was depressed . her knowing i was attempting for years and not doing anything except telling me if i did die we couldn’t afford a funeral. is this shit not supposed to fuck me up .

so much more . i don’t have family i don’t know my dad i hate living in general and i really don’t feel the need to keep going .

all the fucked up people that have ruined my life have never said sorry . while i apologize for existing everyday

had some free time to think today and i just. got really sad about the life i used to think i was going to have before i became disabled

(whoops this turned into a Journal Entry, so im putting it beneath a read more sry lmao)

like. i had plans to travel europe and work in cafes and stay out too late in clubs with my new friends and then stumble in to open the cafe with my clothes from the night before and smeared makeup. and like, maybe thats a weird dream to have, but id spent so long in this tiny little box in my hometown (kinda. its complicated bc ive lived where i am now longer than the place i was born, but my birthplace will always be my hometown, to me.) so i was reaching for experiences so drastically different from the life id known.

but then i went to college out of state. 10h from home, almost in canada. and i did spend a good chunk of my first two years partying exactly like i described: work until 8/9, go home eat something fatty and greasy, change into smth slutty and cool, and go out with my friends and stay out until the wee hours, making out and dancing with whoever asked. two one night stands came of it, both embarrassing for different reasons (thats a whole different post lmao but i dont regret either, actually) but i had so much fun. i felt free. like i could truly be myself for the first time in my life

and then i became disabled.

(caveat: ive probably been disabled my whole life, but i simply. never noticed. i didnt know it wasnt normal to be in pain, because i didnt know what 'pain-free' meant. it wasnt until i started making diasbled and crippled friends that they made me realize that living at a 4/5 on the pain scale All The Time is in fact not normal)

i got a terrible cold my first thanksgiving. spent the entire break on the couch in the lounge sniffling and coughing, trash can, tissues, hand sanitizer, and lotion all right next to me because i was DETERMINED not to get anyone sick (context: this was pre covid. wearing masks was like. not a thought.) despite everyone having gone home/away for the break. i got my first (and only) case of viral pink eye. i had bronchitis until april. that same january, while i still had bronchitis, my knees suddenly swelled up so badly i couldnt move for two days. my knees have ached almost daily since then.

then, in december 2020, i was home like everyone else, and i was working in my mom's office full time while also attending classes full time remotely (like everyone else). my mom took a week off. finals week. she left me in charge, since i was the second most senior person in the office with my roughly two years experience. my half sister was demanding to know why our other sister wouldnt talk to her after she borrowed our car to go see our estranged father. again. (we gave her permission to borrow the car, but it still hurt). the exhaustion was getting worse and worse until thursday of that week. my coworker was threatening to call my mom to come pick me up because i couldnt think, could barely talk, and i was nodding off at my desk. and then my half sister called out of nowhere and wanted to talk. and i was so tired, so done with EVERYTHING, i let her have it. that took the last bit of my energy and i told my coworker to call my mom.

i spent a week in bed with the worst pain in my life. my entire body ACHED. my cat couldnt lay on me because it felt like i was being crushed to death my a bed of needles. my elbow swelled up so badly i could hardly move it. i could barely sit up to eat or stand to go pee. i slept SO MUCH.

i returned to work maybe a week or two after. i maybe finished my classes but i hoenstly dont remember. i moved back up to school in jan/feb with covid restrictions so i could finish my senior year on campus. i couldnt walk to the mail room and back without needing a nap. i couldnt go to starbucks and bring back two coffees without needing a break in the middle of my walk. i went to the health services because something wasnt right.

after some tests and lots of arguing with some shitty doctors and PTs, the light of my life, dr k diagnosed me with chronic fatigue. i finally had an answer for all my issues.

i thought that was it.

that summer, june/july 2021, i developed postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome and fought to get it taken seriously. two er trips with elevated heart rate, brain fog, and high bp, and it took the second trip to have them take me SERIOUSLY and get a referral. the cardiologist told me i was fat and just needed to exercise more, the three heart monitors don't show stereotypical tachycardic events, so im just experiencing elevated heart rates. i was fine. finally convince him to put me on propranolol, the "as needed" dose, and fuck off when he says he wants to work me off them and get me exercising.

i found a doctor who took me seriously and listened when i said "i have x problem. i would like a solution." and gave me referral after referral after referral, chasing more and more diagnoses. she never once made me feel insane for my symptoms, never made me feel unheard, and she never failed to make me cry in relief every time i went to see her and didnt have to fight for just an ounce of care.

since then, ive been diagnosed with moderate asthma, psoriasis, fibromyalgia, and potentially (almost assuredly) hypermobile ehlers-danlos syndrome. (for those of you keeping track, thats six diagnoses in four years) dr m, my savior, retired this year, and ive found a new doctor im hoping i can teach to treat me with the same care and respect. shes already given me a second referral to gastroenterology for my stomach issues (which... might just be from too much ibuprofen... :) rip me) and neurology bc my migraines that have crippled me for upwards of a month before are no longer being managed by my meds and i need something more specific before i start new meds. she said shed find me a doctor to dx heds, bc shes still new and wasnt comfortable with the tests required and didnt want to do it wrong, which endears her to me just a little more

but all of ^^^ that is just a big winding way to say that my life has changed a LOT since i graduated high school. i can no longer stand for long periods of time. i cant lift more than maybe 5-10lbs, and i certainly cant carry it for any significant length of time. i get migraines so easily. my joints slip out of place if i step wrong. i cant go out one night and expect to be up and at'em early the next day. i have to weigh my energy vs what i want to get done vs what needs to get done, and most days, nothing gets done at all.

and sometimes, usually when i get a new diagnosis and a new complication to my life, i mourn the life i used to dream about for myself. i mourn the things ive had to lose out on because my reality has changed so drastically. i cant go to amusement parks anymore. i cant go to standing-room-only concerts. i cant go to the grocery by myself. and you can forget doing things like wandering through the mall to kill time or going for a leisurely walk around the park.

being disabled is not the worst thing to happen to me, and i dont think im damaged or broken or anything like that. despite all the pain and complications and accomodations i have and need, i love myself the way i am. after all, i am now the funniest fucking person in ANY room. i dont think i want it back, because i love the life i have now (meaningful volunteer work, a dnd group i love, and a partner i thank the stars for regularly). but sometimes, its hard not to mourn the life i thought id have

being a constant hand washer is so annoying

and i’m constantly being put in situations that provoke me to wash my hands 3 - 6 times in between getting up “real quick” to do something and sitting back down

and the executive dysfunction doesn’t help either cuz sometimes i’ll be like let me get my cat some food *washes hands* Oh shoot i should have replaced her water before i washed my hands. *replaces her water* *washes my hands*

and then im always like while im up let me move some dishes and trash out of my room and then i have to wash my hands at least one more time but maybe more depending on how many trips i spontaneously decide to keep taking

then after everything i always have to pee. i finish all my tasks, wash my hands, sit back in bed and go “dammit i need to pee” and then sometimes i will wash my hands AGAIN depending on what i’ve touched since sitting back on my bed (like certain items in my room are just deemed contaminated like my cat’s brush for example. so if i get in bed and brush my cat for even one second or pick the brush up and then realize i have to pee, i will then re-wash my hands before i pee.)

hello hi you dont know me but i may have some tips!!

a buddy linked me just this post so i dont have full context but it does sound like you may need a different kind of aid. different things are for different needs, ie a standard cane is typically more for balance rather than being weight bearing like various forms of crutches or walkers. if you can see a pt about it, they can definitely set you up with the right aid (and help ensure that it is sized right and teach you the correct way to use it, because that can also hugely effect how well it works)

but also, honestly, it just takes a hot minute to get used to using a cane. ive used mine for eeeeeh i think threeish years? and with a few exceptions, i *always* use it when im out of the house, but its only been the last yearish that ive gotten truly comfortable with it, in that it doesnt take much thought to navigate using my cane and my hands

i do a *ton* of stuff one handed (tho i had a leg up because my shoulders are fucked, so ive been doing things with one hand or the other for about a decade), and ive found with my particular manner of dress and cane handle and anatomy, i can tuck the handle of my cane in my groin if i need both hands (like opening produce bags or pulling out my wallet, which lives on the same side my cane does). they also make wrist straps for canes for just this purpose, and you can cheese it with a shoelace or similar if needed

wrt getting up from a kneeling position, use your cane to help my dude that is what they are for. plant that sucker dead center in front of you, hold it angled away from you at like 20-45 degrees, and leaver yourself up one foot at a time. easier to stand AND your cane is already in your hand

as far as dogs go tho, idk how to help as i am not a dog person; this may be a space where a different aid could be more helpful, like a walker (or a cane!!) with a seat to drop onto while you wait for him to do his business, or like, theres gotta be some sort of contraption to scoop up dog poop without bending down TONS of old people have dogs. you can stack em, or use different aids for different tasks that is totally allowed (gotta catch em all). theres also fully the option of indeed letting him poop in the house, but!! they do make pads for that that you can train animals to use, my gf does that with their dog. theres disposable puppy pads but i bet you could also use washable waterproof hospital bed pads (amazon carries them for like 18 bucks for a 2 pack, if i recall; i got a pack recently because my cat stress pees on my bed lmao and theyre spectacularly useful)

it fucking sucks to hit the point where you have to admit to yourself that you need a mobility aid, regardless of age but ESPECIALLY if youre "young", but i promise, if you let yourself, you can become very fond of your aid. using it will become second nature, and for any struggle that crops up from using it interfering with other tasks, you can be sure that *someone* has figured out a work around because humans have been using mobility aids for a gazillion years. your Problems are not new problems you are not alone in them and you are definitely not without resources

CANE UPDATE:

It absolutely saved my bacon last night and was the only reason I was able to get moving after waiting for Champ to finish his business.

This morning I needed it less, just on Champ's long pauses.

But I already know changes are needed. I need a head that lets the cane stand on the ground. I only have two hands and trying to manage leaning on cane, holding Champ's leash, and doing the poop bag (bending to pick up and then needing to tie off the top) is too much to manage.

Other problem: Champ falling down. That old man collapsed again this morning. When it happens he must be picked up, he can't stand on his own. So it was lay cane on the ground, bend, pick up a 45lb dog around the middle, haul him to his feet, hold him upright until his paws were under him and he could walk, try to straighten up on my own, retrieve cane from sidewalk. Not great.

My sister suggests bringing Champ inside after he pees and just accept that means he poops in the house. That does not seem ideal.

So. Adjustments needed.

Other thought today: why is standing and waiting outside bad but showering is fine?
