Currently watching: The X-Files. We're now at S06 and we've watched it since last June. Jeez that series is LONG 😂 But I love it, proper story lines, plots, character arcs and so on if you know what I mean... Really looking forward to seeing The Last of Us that starts on 16th.

Currently reading: Fairy Tale by Stephen King (IT'S SO GOOD, probs one of the best King books) and Wayward Galaxy by Jason Anspach and J.N Chaney. Just yesterday I finished the last book (#15) of my favourite book series (Expeditionary Force by Craig Alanson) and I bawled. The book was published just in December and... I already miss those characters 😢

New entry in the long series of reasons for Preacher tv show succeeds in transforming the character I hated most in the comic book into my favorite: Cassidy, his bisexuality and  his relationships.

I know that some people were disappointed with how the story of Cassidy and Eccarius ended but I would like to say why I like this story.

1) I like how the relationship between Cassidy and Ecarius is treated at first: it is normalized (both are perfectly comfortable and no one panics or tries to justify themselves).  They are two bisexual adult men (vampires?) who are attracted to each other, don’t care about why other think and their scene together is very realistic for a couple (before the truth is revealed about Eccarius).

2) I'm not going to pretend that Cassidy is a saint (even if he's a million times more sympathetic than his comic book version). There are very dark things in his past, including who may himself have been an abusive spouse and that he has abandoned his child (even if one of  my friends have pointed out to me that if your reason for abandoning your child is I am an alcoholic-junkie vampire with a violent past and a sometimes a bloodlust hard to control, leaving could be considered a responsible option) and yes murder. Cassidy is also shown with a deep self-disgust because of her vampirism. You could also consider that his addiction problems (or in the original comic book is blame on his inability to man-up which is not how addiction works) and his sexuality (because yes, an Irish Catholic guy born at the beginning of the 20th century will have difficulty at least at the beginning dealing with the fact that he also loves men) didn't help the situation.Many also speculated that Cassidy might have other mental problems (depression, post-traumatic shock, attachment disorder, etc.). He still tries to be a better person and by the standards of the series, it's not bad at all.  This Cassidy is a more mature and self-reflecting version of his character at the end of the comic book.

3) The way self-hatred is shown in this show with our two vampires is quite interesting: Eccarius hates who he is and takes revenge on his fellow vampire as well as people who want to be like him.Cassidy hates himself but does not hate his fellow vampire and may even understand why one might want to be like him especially in one case the other option is death (see Dennis or Tulip). Eccarius uses his hatred to justify his actions and takes advantage of them without shame. Cassidy separates the illness from the individual and believes him to be better than death.For an individual who is a killer sometimes remorseful, Cassidy sees life as something precious.  The comic book Cassidy would never have put his life on the line like that for Assface and if his version of the comic books was so horrified by Eccarius' actions, the fact that the storyline seemed to exist more to show like Anne Rice suck's vampires and that otherwise the character was pathetic enough to win easily.If Eccarius had been as strong as in the show, Cassidy from the comic would have run for it or asked Jesse for help. Cassidy from the show confronts him.

4)Cassidy also shows courage in several ways: when Eccarius reveals his true color, he turns into an abusive spouse physically but especially emotionally. He insults him, manipulates him, tortures him, tells him that he is the only person who can ever love him and reminds him of everything he has done for him.Until I reveal Cassidy's plan, I wonder if it would be one of the storylines of the series to have Cassidy caught in a relationship that uses his low self-esteem against him as well as his fear of loneliness for control him.   But no, despite whoever believes a lot of things of that what Eccarius says (that he is his last chance to be loved, that he will no longer find the happiness even that he found near him, that he is not better, ect...), Cassidy said that he would rather be sad than lose what is considered as a last even horizon…It shows that Cassidy is better than he thinks, who is really improving himself.It is incredibly difficult to get out of an abusive relationship alone even more when you have mental health and addiction problems. That too, the comic book Cassidy wouldn't have done it.

I'll be honest, I don't know how the show will end, but I think it would be more satisfying than the comic book. That Jesse will not be a Gary-Stu Jesus like, Tulip a generic girlfriend for whom his happiness is simply being able to have a relationship with his man (at least Tulip has better conflict with Jesse compared to the comic book or was basically raised as a tomboy and not well knowing how to act in relationship) and Cassidy will have his problems solved by something else than man up and fuck stops crying about your trauma.  I already like this show for treating LGBTQ people, pocs and mental health problems in a much more mature way than comic books. And yes, a small part me thinks that maybe, just maybe the idea of the unholy trinity being canonin the realm of the possible.
