The last of us trivia
TV show
• Pedro Pascal agreed to play Joel within a day of being sent the script.
• Neil Druckmann (the writer and director of the games, and the co-creator of the HBO series) watched over 100 auditions for Ellie before seeing Bella Ramsey's audition, of which he said, “It didn't feel like I was watching someone acting like Ellie. I was watching Ellie.”
• The TV adaptation offered the opportunity to expand on characters' backstories like Marlene and Ellie's relationship - as they weren't limited to a first-person POV.
• Huge apocalyptic sets had to be made for the show that were only used once - like the interior of the Capitol Building, which was built on a soundstage from scratch. Matching the lushness of the game while making it more realistic was the end goal, and art books from Naughty Dog (the company that developed the video games) were used as a jumping off point.
• Tess is portrayed by Australian actress Anna Torv. She was aware of the games but had not played them and watched the cutscenes after her casting. Torv felt her performance required consistent truthfulness due to its subtlety.
• Anna Torv and Pedro Pascal who portrays Joel decided that Tess and Joel had been lovers for some time but, like in the game, were subtle about their relationship.
• Sarah is portrayed by English actress Nico Parker. Parker watched videos of the original game years before getting the role. She wanted to stay away from the game version and provide her own interpretation of the character.
• As the clickers were a “home run” in the games, prosthetic artists from Game of Thrones were brought on to make them look as close to the source material as possible.
• There was even a movement bootcamp to train extras how to move like infected.
• The art teams were given the direction to find the beauty in the fungus. As Neil Druckmann said, “When you see the beauty in these monsters, it somehow makes them creepier.”
• It was Bella Ramsey's suggestion to have Ellie sleep with a switchblade during her first night with Tess and Joel.
• Neil Druckmann always thought of Joel and Tess's relationship as romantic, and the TV show offered the opportunity to make that explicit.
• Neil Druckmann is open to a The Last of Us Part 3 game, but it depends on whether the team can “come up with a compelling story that has this universal message and statement about love.”
• Pedro Pascal was chosen to play Joel Miller because of his ability to portray a tough, tortured, and vulnerable character who suppresses his emotions until necessary.
• Pedro Pascal based Joel's voice on his own experiences growing up in San Antonio, Texas, paring it back from the Southern accent used in the games.
• Bella Ramsey was aware of the game before their audition, but was encouraged not to play it to avoid replicating Ashley Johnson's original performance, instead watching some gameplay on YouTube to get a sense of it. As of filming the series, they still hadn't played the game.Ramsey wanted their performance to be reminiscent of the games without copying them.
• Unlike his counterpart from the video game series, Joel is more vulnerable in the television series; he is hard of hearing on one side due to a gunshot, his knees ache when he stands and he also suffers from nightmares and panic attacks. Co-creator Craig Mazin felt Joel should be less resilient than in the game to show the toll that living in the post-outbreak world has taken.
• Tommy is portrayed by American actor and producer Gabriel Luna. About a month after the casting of Pascal and Ramsey as Joel and Ellie respectively, Luna was asked to submit an audition tape. He was familiar with the work of co-creator Craig Mazin and executive producer Carolyn Strauss, and had previously worked on HBO's True Detective. About a week after submitting his tape, he was offered the role and, according to Luna, they instantly knew he was the one. He was enthusiastic for the role, having lived in Austin, Texas—Joel and Tommy's hometown—around the same time as the show's setting. He was also given a PlayStation 5 during production to play the games as research.

In an Atlanta suburb, American realities collide over Trump’s indictment (Washington Post) Hours after former president Donald Trump was indicted for trying to overturn the 2020 election, Jenny Peterson was heading off to pick up Mexican food for her family. She’d tried to cut back on listening to the news in the car. Politics left her too angry and agitated. But on this night, the news was too big to ignore. Peterson, 55, listened to NPR and flipped over to Fox News on her satellite radio to see what the other side was saying. She believed that so many of America’s core institutions were failing under the pressure of the former president and his followers. Convicting Trump wouldn’t fix those problems. But it was an essential first step. A few miles away, Jerry Ramsey, 79, was finishing up a landscaping job for the company he owns and heading home for dinner with his wife, Carolyn. She usually kept Fox News on in the background, but Ramsey didn’t feel the need to learn the intricacies of the case against Trump. As he saw it, the 45-page indictment was just another effort to tear down the country he, a Vietnam vet, had worked so hard to defend. “They just dream stuff up,” he said. “They just keep coming after him.”
Eight Months Pregnant and Arrested After False Facial Recognition Match (NYT) Porcha Woodruff was getting her two daughters ready for school when six police officers showed up at her door in Detroit. They asked her to step outside because she was under arrest for robbery and carjacking. “Are you kidding?” she recalled saying to the officers. Ms. Woodruff, 32, said she gestured at her stomach to indicate how ill-equipped she was to commit such a crime: She was eight months pregnant. Handcuffed in front of her home, leaving her crying children with her fiancé, Ms. Woodruff was taken to the Detroit Detention Center. She said she was held for 11 hours, questioned about a crime she said she had no knowledge of, and had her iPhone seized to be searched for evidence. After being charged in court with robbery and carjacking, Ms. Woodruff was released that evening on a $100,000 personal bond. A month later, the Wayne County prosecutor dismissed the case against her. The ordeal started with an automated facial recognition search, according to an investigator’s report from the Detroit Police Department. Ms. Woodruff is the sixth person to report being falsely accused of a crime as a result of facial recognition technology used by police to match an unknown offender’s face to a photo in a database. All six people have been Black; Ms. Woodruff is the first woman to report it happening to her.
Closing youth festival in Portugal, pope shares ‘old man’s’ dream of peace (Reuters) Pope Francis closed an international festival of Catholic youth on Sunday with a huge outdoor Mass and his own “I have a dream” speech, saying he longed for world peace, especially for Ukraine. About 1.5 million people attended his closing Mass at a riverside park in the Portuguese capital, the Vatican said, quoting local authorities. Speaking after the Mass, the 86-year-old Francis urged the young people to take the fraternal experiences of the six-day jamboree back home and apply them to their daily lives. “Dear friends, allow me, this old man, to share with you young people a dream that I carry within me: it is the dream of peace, the dream of young people praying for peace, living in peace and building a peaceful future,” Francis said. “As you return home, please continue to pray for peace. What is more, you are a sign of peace for the world, showing how different nationalities, languages and histories can unite instead of divide. You are the hope of a different world,” he said.
Ukraine’s elite forces rely on technology to strike behind enemy lines (Washington Post) Some of Ukraine’s most elite special forces are now operating slightly back from the front line—with virtual-reality glasses that give a drone’s-eye view. Last year, there were opportunities to creep into Russian-occupied territory at night to take out enemy targets. Now, with vast minefields and other fortified Russian defenses stalling Ukraine’s sweeping counteroffensive, an uncrewed aerial vehicle armed with explosives does that during daylight instead. A three-man team last month manually directed a drone to hit a cluster of antennas affixed to a tower in Polohy, a town occupied by Russian troops in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region. The Russians were using the electronic warfare system to spoil the work of Ukraine’s satellite-guided rockets. The drone, made of Styrofoam-like material and costing $1,500, crashed into one of the antennas, detonating on contact. With the Russians’ jamming ability suddenly disrupted, the Ukrainians then destroyed the tower with a strike from a U.S.-provided High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, or HIMARS. The missile slammed into the structure with the sort of precision the Ukrainians have come to rely on in their 17-month fight to expel the Russian occupiers. But had the drone not disabled one of the antennas first, the HIMARS rocket likely would have missed.
Russia unleashes missile and drone strikes against Ukraine, retaliating for an attack on a tanker (AP) Russia unleashed a missile and drone barrage Sunday across parts of Ukraine that killed six people, Kyiv officials said, as Moscow followed through on its promise to retaliate for an attack on a Russian tanker. Separately, Moscow’s second-largest airport briefly suspended flights early Sunday following a foiled drone attack near the Russian capital. Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched 70 drones and missiles from aircraft over the Caspian Sea. Three waves of missiles hit the Starokostiantyniv area, damaging several buildings and igniting a fire at a warehouse, said Serhiy Tyurin, deputy head of Ukraine’s Khmelnytsky region military administration. The strike may have been intended for the city’s airfield, officials said.
India’s Modi faces a no-confidence vote over silence on ethnic violence tearing at remote Manipur (AP) His social media accounts suggest that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is launching high-speed trains and rubbing shoulders with foreign leaders as a powerhouse on the global stage and the face of an ascendant India. But that carefully crafted image, followed by millions, sits uncomfortably at odds with his silence on what’s come close to a civil war engulfing India’s northeastern state of Manipur. For three months, the strongman leader has been absent on arguably the worst ethnic violence ever seen in the remote state, where Modi’s Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party is in power. Modi’s role, or lack thereof, has sparked a no-confidence motion against him in Parliament, where his government holds the majority. He will almost certainly defeat the effort this week. But proponents of the motion are betting that just bringing it up will force Modi to address the Manipur crisis. More than 150 people have died and over 50,000 displaced after ethnic clashes in Manipur erupted in early May.
U.S. companies are buying less from China as relations remain tense (Washington Post) U.S. companies are accelerating efforts to reduce their dependence upon Chinese suppliers, even as officials in Washington and Beijing labor to put a floor under their sour relationship. Through the first five months of this year, U.S. imports from China were down 24 percent from the same period one year ago, according to the Census Bureau. Companies such as HP, Stanley Black & Decker and Lego are among those that have been repositioning their supply lines for American consumers, either to avoid the risk of being pinched between rival superpowers or as part of a longer term strategy to produce goods closer to customers. Either way, China’s role at the center of global manufacturing may be facing its stiffest challenge since the country joined the global trading system more than two decades ago. Mexico, Vietnam and Thailand are nibbling at China’s dominance, though they lack its size and world-class infrastructure.
China hacked Japan’s sensitive defense networks, officials say (Washington Post) In the fall of 2020, the National Security Agency made an alarming discovery: Chinese military hackers had compromised classified defense networks of the United States’ most important strategic ally in East Asia. Cyberspies from the People’s Liberation Army had wormed their way into Japan’s most sensitive computer systems. The hackers had deep, persistent access and appeared to be after anything they could get their hands on—plans, capabilities, assessments of military shortcomings, according to three former senior U.S. officials, who were among a dozen current and former U.S. and Japanese officials interviewed, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the matter’s sensitivity. “It was bad—shockingly bad,” recalled one former U.S. military official, who was briefed on the event, which has not been previously reported. Tokyo has taken steps to strengthen its networks. But they are still deemed not sufficiently secure from Beijing’s prying eyes, which, officials say, could impede greater intelligence sharing between the Pentagon and Japan’s Defense Ministry.
Tens of thousands of young scouts to evacuate world jamboree in South Korea as storm Khanun looms (AP) South Korea will evacuate tens of thousands of scouts by bus from a coastal jamboree site as Tropical Storm Khanun looms, officials said Monday. The vehicles beginning Tuesday morning will move 36,000 scouts—mostly teenagers—from the World Scout Jamboree in the southwestern county of Buan. Most of the scouts will be accommodated at venues in the capital city, Seoul, and the nearby metropolitan area. South Korea’s weather agency reported that Khanun was expected to make landfall in South Korea on Thursday morning, potentially packing winds as strong as 118 to 154 kilometers (73 to 95 miles) per hour. Large swaths of the country’s south, including Buan, could be affected by the storm as early as Wednesday, the agency said.
In Egypt, Public Classrooms Are Empty as Private Tutors Get Rich (NYT) Asked what classes were like in her last year of high school, the fateful period when students across the country cram for Egypt’s life-defining national exams, Nermin Abouzeid looked blank for a second. “We don’t actually know because she never went to high school,” explained her mother, Manal Abouzeid, 47. Nermin, 19, is not the type to skip class. A child of the dusty alleyways of a lower-middle-class neighborhood of Cairo, she was determined, by middle school, to become a cardiologist. But medical schools accept only the top scorers on the national exams. She abandoned Egypt’s chronically overcrowded and underfunded schools midway through middle school, joining millions of other students in private tutoring, where the same teachers who were paid too little at school to bother teaching could make multiples of their day-job salaries on exam-prep classes. The upper grades in Egypt’s public schools are emptying out as students leave for tutoring centers that they hope will elevate their scores on all-important national exams.
Want to live longer? Play with your grandkids. It’s good for them, too. (Washington Post) My 4-year-old granddaughter, Lucia, and I are once again getting athletic together. One minute we’re kicking around a soccer ball, the next we’re shooting miniature basketballs. Later, with me holding her hand, she’ll teeter-totter atop a foot-high stone wall along our driveway. Tomorrow, we’ll probably have a pillow fight and chase each other around the backyard. Make no mistake: Helping to raise your grandchildren is a workout, and routine tasks such as lifting, carrying and following younger children around all day or night can be pretty strenuous. But research suggests that grandparents who play regularly with grandkids stay active and healthy longer and—bonus points—live longer. Getting physical also promotes advantages well beyond the merely physical. Through one-on-one physical play together, grandparents and grandchildren can get to better know, understand and appreciate each other. It’s inherently social, mentally stimulating, lends your life an extra sense of purpose and meaning, and can establish a wholesome lifetime relationship. “Playing with children adds value not only for children but also for adult caregivers,” according to “The Power of Play,” a 2018 report from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Adults can “reexperience or reawaken the joy of their own childhood and rejuvenate themselves. … Play enables children and adults to be passionately and totally immersed in an activity of their choice and to experience intense joy.”

BANDA SONORA DE THE LAST OF US, LA SERIE ORIGINAL DE HBO ®
Milan Records lanza hoy THE LAST OF US (SOUNDTRACK FROM THE HBO ORGINAL SERIES) a cargo del 2 veces ganador del premio de la Academia®  GUSTAVO SANTAOLALLA y DAVID FLEMING.
SOBRE THE LAST OF US
Productoras: PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint y Naughty Dog.

With overnights at the station and chaos that occurred every time he clocked in for a shift, Malcolm searched for anything mindless to do to keep his mind at ease. He cared for his plants, tried his hand at baking a time or two but ultimately his main hobby was gaming. There was something so thoughtless about the act. Fingers itching at toggles and buttons and strategizing among friends. The addictive quality of it was there but to him it was all in good fun.
He barely notices Carolyn enter the room considering his headphones muffle the sounds of the world surrounding him with no remorse. Mac’s eyes flicker up from the monitor momentarily at the redhead, a genuine smile meeting his lips as he only for a moment drapes his headset around his neck. “Baby, hi. You said you weren’t going to be until seven.” He flips his phone over to check the time. 7:25. Had she been here that long and he had been ignorant to it? The thought flushed him with guilt but embarrassment in the same right. “Just, um, just one more game and we can do something. I’m just - guys, shut up.” Mac laughs into the headset at the people on the other end that are awaiting to start another game. He slips his headphones over his ears again, squeezing her hand momentarily before pecking at her knuckles. “One more game, okay? Then I’m all yours. Okay? I’m sorry. I love you. Just - you can look for something for us to watch maybe..” And just like that his dissipating focus is now gone as his eyes move back to the screen.

Courting the Chief
Premise: When Chief Ramsey goes on social media, Edenbrook’s PR team couldn’t have predicted what happens next.
Book: Open Heart (post series) Pairing: Ethan Ramsey x F!MC (Cassie Valentine) Rating/Category: Teen. Fluff. Words: 2,170
A/N: Follow up to Convincing the Chief as requested by @genevievemd. Submission to @choicesmonthlychallenge May challenge, day 11 “technology”
Tumblr media
Amalia Kallis finished her second coffee of the morning as she checked her list and then checked it again.
Ever since convincing Chief Ramsey to participate in an Ask Me Anything on Reddit, she had been run off her feet making sure everything would be perfect. Or as close to perfect one could get given the unpredictable nature of social media.
She knew she only had one shot to prove herself and she was determined to show that her boss’s faith in her, and that of Dr. Ramsey, was well deserved.
She arrived at the conference room an hour early to set up and get in the zone. She wouldn’t be of use to anyone if she didn’t have her nerves under control.
The IT guy walked in shortly after and she signed off on the three laptops her team had requested. Hooking one up to the LCD screen, she placed the other two diagonally to each other for Dr. Ramsey and Dr. Wong.
Once she had everything arranged to her satisfaction, she took a seat at the long table and closed her eyes, taking deep breaths as she searched for her center. Her roommate swore by what she called desk yoga and Amalia found herself relaxing as she followed the steps Jennie had taught her.
Her eyes snapped open at the soft knock on the conference room door. Dr. Cassie Valentine stood in the doorway, her eyes curious as she took in the laptops, the subreddit webpage displayed on the large screen and Amalia sitting cross legged on an office chair.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to disturb you,” she said prettily, taking a few steps inside and placing her hands on the back of a chair. “I came to wish everyone good luck but looks like I’m early.”
“We’re starting in half an hour,” said Amalia, checking her watch. “They should be here any minute if you’d like to...”
Before she could continue, Dr. Ramsey pushed open the door and walked inside. His austere expression softened as soon as he saw Dr. Valentine, the thin line of his lips turning into a smile.
As their eyes connected, Amalia could see the instant sparks someone on her team had mentioned the other day. And her young heart yearned at the idea of a love so strong that all it took was one look.
“Come to troll me some more, Dr. Valentine?” he drawled sarcastically, quirking one eyebrow.
But Amalia noticed his hand reached for hers, their fingers entwining in a gesture that felt too natural to be new.
“Have you already forgotten what happened with Gwyneth Monroe, Dr. Ramsey?” teased Dr. Valentine.
She laughed when he frowned before running one hand down his tie and stretching on her toes to close the distance, her lips brushing against his.
Amalia saw a swath of red splash across Dr Ramsey’s cheeks and she quickly looked down, pretending to be preoccupied with whatever was on her laptop screen rather than ogling her boss’s boss kissing his wife.
She breathed a sigh of relief when her boss Maureen Lively and Dr. Carolyn Wong entered the room. Everyone exchanged pleasantries as Amalia covertly scanned her list again, took point on the dry run and answered any burning questions from the two speakers about the session.
During their rehearsals, Dr. Ramsey had struggled slightly with the platform’s various features, questioning the rationale for up and down voting. But once they got into the chat itself, he said it reminded him of the old bulletin board technology of his youth and he’d had no problem following along.
There were already a couple hundred people viewing the subreddit AMA post and Amalia sent a silent prayer that it wasn’t a total bust as far as attendance. And then it was Go Time!
The first few questions were innocuous enough, she thought as she listened to the two doctors discuss their responses before one or the other responded. Amalia didn’t always know what the acronyms stood for (STEP, LoR, IM, EM, Cards), but apparently the doctors did and that was all that mattered.
While it had been agreed that Dr. Wong would reply to any questions specific to the application, she noticed that Dr. Ramsey didn’t hesitate to jump in, his long fingers running across the keyboard with confidence.
LessThanIdeal_2020: I don’t know how to decide which specialties to apply to?
ChiefRamsey_Edenbrook: Think about your clinical rotations, which ones you enjoyed and why, the ones you hated. Your personality plays into it too. Internal medicine is patient focused and you need to be willing to listen to their hopes and dreams. Others like radiology have fewer patient interactions and might be a better choice for those that don’t want much human contact.
StrugglingMedStudent: What do you look for in a personal statement and how important is it?
ChiefRamsey_Edenbrook: Very. Key thing to remember in those words is ‘personal’. Don’t tell me you wanted to be a doctor since you were in kindergarten. Everyone says that. Tell us why “you”. Your goal at this point is to make your application stand out. If you get selected for an interview, you’ll have a second chance to impress us.
I still remember the best personal statement I ever read focused on how medicine wasn’t just a career for them but an opportunity to shape patient care into what it could be. That applicant is now Head of our Diagnostics Team because it wasn’t an empty statement but a mission personal to them.
She and Maureen shared a smile at the upvoting taking place on his responses and more questions and comments rolled in.
Basking in the glory of her success, she received a rude awakening from her premature victory lap when she heard Dr. Ramsey’s tone change to something resembling an ogre.
“What does this have to do with their ERAS application?” he growled.
Amalia scanned the screen quickly and then she found the comment to his last post.
NotJustAnyRookie: You sound so smart. I’d love to take you out for coffee and continue this conversation. In private. I’ll dm my number. Call me.
Before Amalia could jump in to reassure him that it was harmless and he should ignore it, he got an evil look in his eyes as he downvoted the response.
She breathed a sigh of relief when the next few questions were focused on the topic at hand. Feeling confident now that things were back on track, she noticed there were only fifteen minutes left. They could do this, she thought.
And then it went sideways.
NotJustAnyRookie: Have you all heard? Edenbrook has the hottest doctors around. 👀 Don’t believe me? Check out this video for proof. Gwynners know what’s what.
Since we’re gonna be stuck inside the hospital for 80+ hours a week, I’m adding eye candy to my application criteria.
Amalia silently groaned as people started upvoting the post and a flurry of comments flooded the screen.
ChicaKnowIt: Wow! How have I not seen this before? Dr. Ramsey is a total hottie! 🔥
DoesLifeSuck33: Edenbrook’s going to the top of my list.
NotJustAnyRookie: He’s old but I’d tap that ass. 🥵
Amalia thought she heard Dr. Ramsey hiss “forty is not old!” but when she looked across the conference room table he was pinching the bridge of his nose, brows snapped in annoyance.
His scowl grew worse as he glanced up at the wall where the subreddit post and the scrolling string of comments were displayed on the large screen.
LessIsNotMore: Is he married or have an SO? Anyone know? 😭
PrinceofSparta: His SO is selfish to keep him from the world when he looks like that! 🙄
NotJustAnyRookie: IKR? My doctor back home looks like a gnome. Just googled Ramsey and there’s a picture of him naked on the beach. It’s now my phone wallpaper! 😍
DelightfulDahlia: You right. He looks even better without his shirt on. Do you think he likes flowers? 🤭
Dr. Wong tried to control the grin spreading across her face, but it was clear she was enjoying his discomfort. Meanwhile, Maureen started coughing as she swallowed her laughter, her shoulders shaking with mirth.
Amalia could see her budding career going down in flames and wondered if anyone would ever hire her in PR again after this debacle. She opened her mouth to apologize, but he suddenly started typing.
ChiefRamsey_Edenbrook: Residency at Edenbrook is highly demanding and we accept only the best. It’s NOT a marriage mart and eye candy should not be a factor for residency programs regardless of where you apply.
For the record, I am happily married and my wife is NOT selfish. If any of you actually want to work in medicine for the foreseeable future there had better not be any flower deliveries sent to my office.
And as for you, the troublemaker that posted the video, delete that image of me from your phone. Now!
After that, Dr. Wong answered the next two questions and then Amalia thanked everyone for participating and closed the chat to comments. Her hands shook as she closed her laptop lid and turned towards Chief Ramsey.
“Dr. Ramsey, I’m so…” she started to apologize, but he held up his hand to stop her.
“It’s not your fault,” he said, his gracious words at odds with the irritation on his face. “As Dr. Valentine keeps reminding me, social media is like the wild west. And I agreed to do this knowing the risks.”
Maureen interjected too and Amalia could feel her shoulders loosening when she realized no one was mad at her.
“Aside from that one user riling others up, I think we did well,” assured Maureen. “There was a lot of user engagement both in terms of questions and comments. It’ll be interesting to see how this affects applications.”
Dr. Wong murmured her agreement before they both excused themselves to head for another meeting. Amalia started to pack up everything, disconnecting wires, stacking notes she’d prepared for the session and shoving them into her bag.
Dr. Ramsey remained seated, leaning back in his chair as he stared at the large screen, his eyes narrowing with every passing second.
“Amalia?” he called out. “What does that read? That user’s name, the one who posted the video. The font’s so small and the words jumbled. I can’t make it out.”
Amalia moved closer to the screen and then located the name he was referring to.
“The username is Not Just Any Rookie, Dr. Ramsey,” she said, turning back towards him. “I’m going to report them to…”
Her words faded away when he suddenly pushed back his chair and stood up. She thought she heard him curse and say “Rookie!” but he rushed out of the room before she could figure it out.
Happy that despite this minor setback it looked like she was still gainfully employed, Amalia handed the loaner laptops to IT and went back to work.
In another part of the hospital, Ethan Ramsey marched down a familiar hallway on the seventh floor. His expression was so severe that everyone in his path quickly found themselves scattering in case they got caught in his wrath.
He swiped his access card and entered the Diagnostic Team’s office, knowing full well that its occupant was expecting him.
“Not. Just. Any. Rookie,” he bit out each word as he stalked towards her.
Cassie pushed away from her desk and open laptop, leaning back against her chair, her belly deep laughter ringing out across the empty room.
“I wish I could have seen your expression,” she chortled, slapping her hands together. “How many times did you pinch the bridge of your nose?”
“You think you’re so funny, don’t you?” he retorted.
“It’s why you love me, babe,” she quipped.
His shoulders deflated as indignation left his body at the sight of her. He pulled her out of the chair and took her place before drawing her down to sit on his lap. Her arms circled his neck, and he folded her into his embrace.
He sighed, his forehead resting against hers. He really should chastise her, but as he gazed into her laughing green eyes, he knew it was a bit of harmless fun.
“I believe you asked me out for coffee,” he said eventually.
“What about your wife?” she countered, grinning.
“I’m sure she’ll understand,” he waved away the concern with a smirk. “After all, attracting the best and the brightest is all part of the job.”
“In that case…” she purred.
Her tongue traced his lips, teasing with butterfly soft kisses until he parted them and she dived in.
Amalia stopped outside the glass walls, a gift-wrapped package tightly clutched in her hands as she spied Chief Ramsey and Dr. Valentine making out on the office chair. She felt like a voyeur but they were beautiful together and she sighed wistfully.
Someday, she thought, she would have that. If the ogre of Edenbrook could be tamed by its princess, then there was hope for her too.

America will no longer have any semblance of democracy after the midterms in November. If you can move to a better country, what the fuck are you waiting for.
