Alright, time for some Shire appreciation
Western Mass has:
The tallest mountain in Mass, Mt Greylock, which was the inspiration for Moby Dick (Melville’s home is in a nearby town and viewing a snow-covered Greylock gave him the idea for a white whale) as well as a poem by Oliver Wendell Holmes and a horror story by Nathaniel Hawthorne
The home of Norman Rockwell, now a museum, as well as dozens of locales (and people, although fewer as time goes by) featured in classic paintings of his
The homes of Edith Wharton, Emily Dickinson, and William Cullen Bryant, plus the Dr Seuss and Eric Carle Museums, Mass MoCA, and the Clarke Art Museum
The birthplace of basketball and basketball hall of fame as well as the locale of the first written evidence of baseball (sorry, Cooperstown fans, the Doubleday thing is a myth)
The hometowns of Penn Jillette, Misha Collins, Elizabeth Banks, plus the birthplace of Matthew Perry, and adopted hometown of James Taylor as well as numerous other celebs with seasonal homes in the area
A castle and a crapton of Gilded Era mansions
A Gilded Era theater that was hidden in the back of a paint store for half a century
Tanglewood
And, perhaps most importantly, the town with the highest number of lesbians per capita in the US (also, not coincidentally though less importantly, Smith College and a dozen or so other colleges that aren't UMass)

Gardenia
The gardenia (genus) is a flower that symbolizes purity and gentleness. However, this symbolism often depends on the color of the gardenia. For example, the white gardenia best fits this meaning. Another symbol of the gardenia is secret love between two people and also joy. Finally, we must note that the gardenia symbolizes everything related to the spiritual world, especially pure attraction. It’s a mystical flower associated with the power of attraction and positive energy.
Amazing facts about gardenia flower
Gardenia is a genus of flowering plants in the coffee family, Rubiaceae, native to the tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia, Madagascar and Pacific Islands, and Australia.
The genus was named by Carl Linnaeus and John Ellis after Alexander Garden (1730–1791),
Cultivation :
Gardenia jasminoides is cultivated as a house plant. This species can be difficult to grow because it originated in warm humid tropical areas. It demands high humidity to thrive, and bright (not direct) light. at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight through a sunny window. Make sure your Gardenia soil is moist and well-drained. Gardenias need at least 1 inch of rain (or equivalent watering) each week. Gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides) is also known as cape jasmine and is an evergreen shrub that typically grows to a height of 3 to 8 feet, depending upon the cultivar. Spread is usually about the same as the height. The foliage of well-fed shrubs is glossy, dark-green, 2- to 4-inches long and half as wide. Flowering is from about mid-spring to mid-summer, and many species are strongly scented.
Description :
Gardenias are evergreen shrubs and small trees growing to 1–15 metres (3.3–49.2 ft) tall. The leaves are opposite or in whorls of three or four, 5–50 centimetres (2.0–19.7 in) long and 3–25 centimetres (1.2–9.8 in) broad, dark green and glossy with a leathery texture.
Scent of gardenia:
gardenia smells more feminine than jasmine, creamier than ylang ylang, and lighter than tuberose. Interestingly, the gardenia flower is capable of changing scents throughout the day.Their long lasting, fragrant white flowers bloom from late spring to fall.
History of :
In France, gardenias are the flower traditionally worn by men as boutonnière when in evening dress. In The Age of Innocence, Edith Wharton suggests it was customary for upper-class men from New York City to wear a gardenia in their buttonhole during the Gilded Age.
In Tiki culture, "Donn Beach", aka Don the Beachcomber, frequently wore a fresh lei of gardenias almost every day at his Tiki bars, allegedly spending $7,800 for flowers over the course of four years in 1938. He named one of his drinks the Mystery Gardenia cocktail. Trader Vic frequently used the gardenia as a flower garnish in his Tiki drinks, such as in the Scorpion and Outrigger Tiara cocktails.
main features of the gardenia:
The gardenia has large, lush leaves.
There are many varieties of this plant species.
Gardenias are originally from Asia.
Meaning behind white gardenia :
the white gardenia stands out because it has the greatest symbolism. The white color of its petals symbolizes the purity of a loved one, the purity of a relationship, etc. Gardenias in this color convey peace and harmony
Meaning behind red gardenia:
The red gardenia symbolizes the secret love between two people. Like red roses, red gardenias are also a symbol of passion and love, but associated with secrecy. Usually the gift of red gardenias is a silent way of saying “I love you.” Red gardenias convey several feelings, not just love, towards a person. They also show: admiration, respect, Red Gardenia flower meaning- Affection for deep love and promises is all we need in life. The Red Gardenia symbolizes love at first sight. etc.
Yellow Gardenia flower meaning- How about having a sweet memory of someone unconsciously? The Yellow gardenias flowers symbolize dreams.
Orange Gardenia flower meaning- Every person deserves someone who can be there every time. The Orange gardenia flowers symbolize hope.
Pink Gardenia flowers meaning- What’s better than giving a fresh start in any relationship? Pink gardenia flowers symbolize beauty and renewal.

Dwindling Reasons
I'm still thinking about combat control. I feel a little bit more confident now in myself, but at the same time, wonder of the opportunities I might miss. Here are my worries:
Future MBA prospects: Could I guarantee myself to get into GSB, Wharton, Sloan, or Columbia? I know being an officer in the 75th Ranger Regiment or Marine Corps would hold more weight (based on LinkedIn research) for getting into those top MBA schools. This on the assumption that admission committees know what a combat controller is.
Carl and Clyde: I know I'd be able to get them after I'm done with dive school, after five months of everything. So in theory, it's not even that long. Now planning for those days where I'm gone for an extended period of time, I guess I could work with my cadre and tell them my situation.
Masters Degree: I'll get confirmation of all the admission committee's decisions on what schools I get into by mid April. In theory, I would start this fall, Fall 2024, and take a military leave of absence after I complete my semester. I might be able to squeeze in another semester depending on when I get slotted, but in theory I would leave that January in 2025. So, this would leave me with only a couple of school options. UIUC, Stanford, University of Pennsylvania, and UT Austin. I would do a semester at the school, and do the rest online after I finish my pipeline. I'm not attending The University of Arizona to subdue my future.
My Car: Could I afford still making the payments on it? I'd still need to have it for if I attended any of the above schools.
Here are my worries for ROTC
Debt, Sure, Raytheon could pay for my school, but only $25,000 per semester. I would still owe Raytheon for the years I took money out for school. With Brown University, I would still owe around $50,000, on top of my $36,000 for undergrad. Granted, I could probably reduce that by working at another defense contractor if I can't find a local Raytheon position near my graduate school. All the other schools would probably put me in a similar debt situation. Is it worth it? Let's say after I get out of being an officer, I'd still owe that money for Raytheon if I plan on never coming back. Granted, I could work remotely for Raytheon (highly doubtful) if I come back, but that would limit my networking experience by a huge margin.
Is ROTC even possible?: Would the Army even have it sorted out that I can get back in by the end of my masters degree? That's a really big risk, and that's something I'm really worried about. Can I even get into the Marines then as an officer? SOF is limited for the Marines, and I really wouldn't want to.
Look, we don't even know if we can do CCT, let alone get into any branch. Do the orders block me from fully going into ANY branch? We'll have to ask our SSG, but at the same time that might put things in motion, which is something we aren't really sure we want to do at the moment. I could get a motorcycle until I leave, but we'll have to see.
I've talked with Kavon and Dawson, and we have all come to the conclusion of doing ROTC. It makes sense, so let's do it and not look back.

The 7th Guest VR Review
Disclaimer: I did not play the game myself (no VR hardware unfortunately), but watched a complete playthrough video.
The 7th Guest VR, a re-imagining of the original, deviates from the original lore, with some original lore thrown in. The 13th Doll, a fan-made sequel, did so as well. They both went off the lore in opposite directions.
The puzzles were completely different as well, save the cake puzzle. It was similar in style but a different format.
The acting was OK but a bit lacking and didn’t quite have the same tone or emotion. There were some parts that were good but it was mostly bland. It also wasn’t quite the same without Robert Hirschboeck as Stauf. Carl Wharton just didn’t quite have the Stauf touch. The other characters weren’t quite as eccentric and seemed a bit off as well. (There’s a whole other thing I could do about the characters but I’ll just leave it simple.)
There were also the murder scenes, which added a nice touch from the original. Though a couple still felt like they didn’t quite fit, or were out of place. Would’ve been better without one specific weapon, I think.
Having actually seen the game in full now, the costumes / clothing were more period than originally thought from the character profiles originally posted for T7G VR, so that was nice.
It also didn’t have a few of the rooms and different ones were added. It was missing the Gallery, Lab, and Maze with the Crypt. The new areas were the Basement, Storage Room, Workroom, Landing, Stauf’s Bedroom, and the Ritual Room.
The guests' rooms were modified as well, with different layouts and furniture. (You can see comparisons I made in previous posts.)
Wonderworld was the name used for Stauf’s toy store which was the name used in THE 7TH GUEST "STAUF FILES" (a PDF extra from The 11th Hour GOG version) and The 13th Doll. In the original T7G, it was never mentioned, just that he opened a toy store.
So overall, from what I saw in the playthrough video, it was a good game but some things were off or didn’t quite fit.
Of course, a re-imagining will never be the same as the original, and the way it was presented was rather quite interesting.
You’ll just have to play or watch it to make up your own mind.
(@hobbitonwheels Thought you might like this.)
ETA (above): The name Wonderworld actually came from The 7th Guest "Stauf Files" document, an extra from The 11th Hour GOG version. Thus I stand corrected: It wasn't fan-made, it came directly from the creators themselves, just at a later time than the original T7G.

Steve Howe’s Son, Little Barrie Drummer Virgil Howe, Dead at 41; Yes Tour Canceled
Yes scratched the remaining six dates on its Yestival tour Monday, following the sudden death of Steve Howe’s son, the band announced online.
“Due to the tragic, unexpected death of guitarist Steve Howe’s beloved younger son, Virgil, Yes regrettably announces that the remaining dates of their Yestival Tour have been cancelled,” the statement said.
Virgil Howe was in rehearsals for a U.K. tour with his band Little Barrie, which was slated to begin Sept. 13. The drummer was 41 when he died of unknown causes and his bandmates mourned him on Twitter.
“I am utterly devastated to lose my friend and a positive force in my life,” Lewis Wharton said.
Barrie Cadogan said the band was “heartbroken” at the death of Howe, whom he called “our dear friend and brother.”
Virgil and Steve Howe were to release their debut, instrumental LP, Nexus, in November, and the elder Howe talked about it with Prog magazine before his son’s death.
“It’s a full-on collaborative album, not a duet,” he said. “It’s been refreshing to work with Virgil, and we’ve pulled this beautiful album together. Although it’s got shades of mellow music, it doesn’t sit still. It moves across electronic music and my guitars. This is an opportunity to discover what Virgil’s been doing on the side of his drumming with Little Barrie.”
Yes have no dates scheduled for the rest of 2017 but are to begin a 50th-anniversary U.K. tour in March 2018.
“Yes — Steve Howe, Alan White, Geoff Downes, Jon Davison and Billy Sherwood — want to thank all their fans for their support and understanding at this time,” the cancellation notice said. “Steve Howe and family ask for their privacy to be respected during this difficult time.”
Refunds are available at the point of purchase. Yestival featured sets by Yes, Todd Rundgren and Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy; the Sept. 11 show went on as scheduled with a headline-length performance from Rundgren.

Heal Yourself #11: Introvert, Extrovert, and Something in Between
“Aku introver atau ekstrover, ya? Terus, kalau misalnya aku bukan diantara keduanya, gimana?”
Think of introversion and extroversion as a spectrum, with ambiversion lying somewhere in the middle.
Nah tuh, adakah disini teman-teman yang merasa ambivert? Atau justru belum pernah dengar istilahnya? Sini sini saya mau cerita~
“It’s like they’re billingual.” begitulah kata Daniel Pink (2013) ketika menggambarkan ambivert dalam bukunya yang berjudul The Surprising Truth About Moving Others. Lebih lanjut, salah satu artikel di Forbes berjudul 9 Signs that You’re an Ambivertmenjelaskan,
“Ambiverts are those who fall somewhere between an introvert and an extrovert, meaning sometimes you are the life of the party and other times you just want to curl up with a book to recharge your batteries.”
