You know what? You know what I think?
I think that if we lived as we were meant to, in larger intimate ("extended family") groups and with more shared labor and time to do it (UBI NOW) people like me would not feel so useless and burdensome because there would be people around to help and to do what neurodivergent people can't while making valuable space for the neurodivergent to do what they ARE good at.
The way we live right now, all right, the way we live right now forces units of two adults to be able to do EVERYTHING or PAY to have someone come do it for them. I have to do the housework. I have to do it! But I am having to do a million different things and most of them I am not good at. I suck at them.
I wouldn't feel like shit, okay, if I had more than one other person around who was not a child and who could do the things I can't, like do the yard and cook and do repairs and basic maintenance; and someone else to split everything else that I like but is too much for me. It would free me to do what I am good at and enjoy. Cleaning, as in the sink and toilet, the windows, the blinds. Taking out trash. Folding, hanging, and sorting laundry.
But because all the shit I can do often relies on other shit being done first, and I can't do or have trouble doing those things, the shit I can do often can't be done. And even the shit I can do, I can't do ALL of it. So I can't keep up, and things get very bad.
We aren't meant to live like this. We are not meant to live like this.
That thought hurts so much because being able to flee the birth family is integral to survival for so many people. I'm so afraid that living in larger family groups would create more opportunities for, say, queer kids to be isolated, rejected, bullied, and abused. But if we gave people enough money to survive, and stopped considering children the property of their parents with no system in place to help them escape bad situations except a system that is often just as bad, just different.
I'm aware that communes and collectives aren't all that successful and are kind of a joke. I don't mean that. I mean a fundamental shift to multigenerational families where taking in "strays" (which my family did) is also normalized so people escaping abuse into existing households was accepted, with these families centered in maybe a couple of different larger residences so not everyone has to buy and maintain their own fucking washing machine and vacuum cleaner, and so people can benefit from large group meals that yield leftovers, and so child and elder care can also be centralized.
Then disabled people and the neurodivergent and sick and injured people, and pregnant people, and grieving people, would not have to either labor through all those stressors or consign themselves to living off an unlivable pittance or being put under legal guardianship.
I'm not saying anything new. People live like this in other parts of the world and maybe it sucks and I am wrong. But I'm just really mad right now because I can either do laundry or clean the sink but not both, and I really think we could improve society somewhat by making it so I did not have to choose one without sacrificing the other.
#im feverish feeling (not a real fever just malaise that i have no other way to describe) from the IBS (which can affect you like that#)#and i don't actually want to do ANYTHING#i would have to even living with others but it would be easier#at the very least i wouldn't have had to clean the microwave earlier which is hard because my arms are like the size of a meerkat's#and i can only reach the back with my fingertips#where is my BF in all this?#WORKING FULL TIME WITH BACK PAIN#yes i AM going to want him to have to do as little as possible when he comes home#he's neurodivergent too and struggles with the same shit#it's all a mess#we are doing way better i didn't realize how deep a drain three very sick cats were#but there's still only two of us#if you are disabled physically OR MENTALLY you should at least get in-home household help once a week or so#there's places that do that but the limitations are usually severe and always rule me out#because im not single im not an elder im not a veteran and im not physically disabled#if we have to ration that sort of thing i can see how on the whole it is more caring to allocate those resources to for example elders#but the fact that i celebrate what help there is doesn't mean i don't get mad that more people can't access it#is2g if i was functional enough snd physically sound enough i would start a charity that did intervention cleaning for people like us#who have fallen behind and can't catch up but can MAINTAIN#and who helped people clean for a few months during and after an illness pregnancy trauma major loss etc. so they could stay on their feet

Retirement Home & Elder Care by Twinsimming 🌴👵🏽
Elder sims can now stay in a Retirement Home or Elder Care facility in their golden years.
This is a script mod that can be placed in your Packages folder. It was built and tested on 1.69 but should work fine on 1.67.
Requirements
This mod requires The Sims 3: Late Night and The Sims 3: Showtime.
Overview
Retirement Home
Elder Care
New Moodlets
Retirement Home
The Retirement Home at the Day Spa offers short-length stays to elder sims looking to relax, boost their skills, and make new friends.
Checking In
Elder sims can “Check Into Retirement Home” at the Day Spa rabbithole for 1, 3, 5, or 7 day periods. They are charged §10 per hour of their stay.
If your sim’s household funds fall below the hourly rate at any point during their stay, they will be automatically checked out of the Retirement Home and the total cost will be added to the next household bill.
Other elder sims in the world who are retired, self-employed, or unemployed will also be drawn to the Retirement Home while an elder sim in your active household is there. They will have opportunities to become friends and socialize every few hours.
Note: Inactive elders will not be charged for staying at the Retirement Home.
Activities & Accommodations
All of an elder sim’s needs will be taken care of during their stay at the Retirement Home.
They also have a variety of different activities available to them in the form of tones (like career tones). These include the following:
Enjoy Stay - Default
Attend Art Class - Raises Painting skill
Attend Music Class - Raises Instrument skills (guitar, bass, piano, and drums)
Chat With Other Residents - Raises Charisma skill and boosts Social need
Do Yoga - Raises Athletic skill
Practice Chess - Raises hidden Chess skill and boosts Fun need
Play Dominoes - Raises hidden Dominoes skill and boosts Fun need
Play Indoor Golf - Raises hidden Golfing skill and boosts Fun need
Play Shuffleboard - Raises hidden Shuffleboard skill and boosts Fun need
Visitation
Sims can visit elder sims in the Retirement Home to boost their relationship.
Visitors and elder sims will gain positive visit-related moodlets depending on their relationship (friendly, romantic, or familial).
Retirement Home visiting hours are from 8:00am to 8:00pm.
Checking Out
Elder sims can check out of the Retirement Home at any time during their stay. They will be charged based on how many hours they stayed multiplied by the hourly rate.
If your sim cannot afford to pay the total cost of stay upfront, the cost will be added to the next household bill.
Once your elder sim leaves the Retirement Home, any other inactive elders staying will leave as well.
If your elder sim remains at the Retirement Home for the full duration of their stay, they will be given spa related moodlets on checkout. The longer the stay, the stronger and longer lasting the moodlets.
Elder Care
If you’re looking for more permanent arrangements for your elder sims, applying for Elder Care at the Hospital may be a better fit.
Application Process
In order to be admitted into Elder Care, elder sims or other household members must “Apply For Elder Care” or “Apply For Elder Care For...” at the Hospital. The application fee costs §120.
Elder sims’ traits can either increase or decrease their chances of qualifying for Elder Care. The base chance of admission is 40% and each trait increases or decreases the base chance by 5%.
Increased Chance Traits - Absent Minded, Clumsy, Insane, Neurotic, Coward, Inappropriate, Technophobe, Unstable, Brooding, Couch Potato, Evil, Grumpy, Mean Spirited, and Loner
Decreased Chance Traits - Athletic, Disciplined, Genius, Family Oriented, and Nurturing
If an elder sim’s application is accepted, they will get the custom Application Accepted moodlet and can “Be Admitted to Elder Care” at the Hospital.
If their application is rejected, they’ll get the custom Application Rejected moodlet and won’t be able to apply again for 24 hours.
Bribes
If your household has some extra funds, they can “Bribe For Elder Care Admission” or “Bribe For Elder Care Admission For…” for guaranteed admission to Elder Care for §5,000.
Evil or Schmoozer sims can “Manipulate” or “Schmooze” for Elder Care admission for §3500.
Admission
Once an elder sim has admitted themselves to the Elder Care facility, they will be charged a §120 check-in fee and then §120 per day.
If your sim’s household funds fall below the daily rate at any point during their stay, they will be automatically checked out of Elder Care.
Note: Inactive elders will not be charged for staying in Elder Care.
Accommodations
All of an elder sim’s needs will be taken care of during their stay in Elder Care.

It sure was a struggle but I did it guys... I colored something... I'm not the best at digital colouring so I was practically sweating while drawing that Nerevar. But yeah, I just wanted to draw my own version of him. Also don't judge the clothing, I'm terrible at that as well >A<'
( the quality is better if you click on the drawing btw )
And besides that Nerevar, I did some Rasha doodles like usual. I'm still trying to figure out how to draw her from the front though. Also that one with Dagoth was done really quickly so some details are kinda missing ( I was planning on coloring it but then I did that Nerevar and I got too tired to do this one as well ). Oops.
#oh yeah Rasha is a woman btw#though people always mistake her for a man and she just rolls with it#she doesnt care about correcting them#and also she just doesnt mind#i absolutely love her#i think ill finally replay morrowind when i get back home#the hyperfixation is real#the elder scrolls#tes#tes morrowind#morrowind#indoril nerevar#voryn dagoth#dagoth ur#nerevarine#tes oc#digital art#muscariart

smth smth about 'the thing that the character did that you thought was rly rly funny in the moment is actually linked to a terrible trauma that lies within said character.' or wahtever.
#jrwi show#jrwi fanart#jrwi riptide#gillion tidestrider#made this within a short span of wahtever bc i gotta go up to the mountains for my stupid gay job tonight n im trying#nnot to frrRREAAAK THE FUCK OUUTTTTTTi dont wanna work but. get that bread we fuckin shall i guess#ONWARDS TO THE FISH TORMENT!! sometimes flowers feel pain when you trim them before their blossoming. atleast i imagine so#i used to draw gillion with loooong hair tied into a big ol braid. and then it was confirmed that he had short hair when he was little.#AT FIRST I WAS SAD. but then i realized the duality of. when they were little. gill had short hair. edyn had long hair.#AND NOW THEYRE OLDER. and gillion has long hair. and edyn has short hair#both mirroring eachother. looking up to eachother. subconsciously or not. they most certainly care. and most certainly miss eachother.#GILLION ALWAYS LOVED HOW LONG HAIR LOOKs. atleast i imagine so. he hasnt cut it since he left the undersea. sure he wanted to go back home#but even at the very start. he knew he was free in some way now. free to grow out his hair. an adventure would await him before he returns.#he knew it would be a while. so he cant let this go. he cant let this sought-after hair-length get cut away from him again#not yet. not yet. i like to think he loved music too. I SAW SOMETHING INTERESTING A BIT AGO#i see alot of ppl commenting on my baby gill comics like;'i wouldFIGHT this teacher i wanna KILL EM i want them DESTROYED#all very good and nice sentiments! i LOVE the energy here! and it would be nice. to have that catharsis#but the story of young tidestrider is not a story of catharsis. it is a story of agony and being so so small and so special and also so dum#and sucking so bad. and just being a kid and doing the things that a little kid does and so many tired tired people reacting badly to it#youre supposed to be the hero that will save us. our world hangs in the balance and you are the one who tips the scales.#YOU are supposed to SAVE US!! you NEED to SAVE US! CAN YOU PLEASE STOP SQUIRMING IN YOUR STUPID CHAIR!!#you'd think that young tidestrider ought to prevail. and be tucked someplace all safe and sound.#elders gone missing and rotting in a jail. their cultists nowhere around. but theres no happy endings. not here not now.#this tale is all sorrows n woes. you may dream that justice n peace win the day. but thats not how this story goes#BIG ideas for this lil baby gillion series. if anything i make ever gets disproven im killing myself in a well as to poison a water supply

“The entire elder care system operates on a mantra of out of sight, out of mind. Medical residencies feature little to no geriatric training; the profession experiences an annual turnover rate of 60 percent. A 2021 study found that turnover in nursing care facilities skyrocketed during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the average annual rate in 2020 at a shocking 128 percent. In other words, if you apply for a job at a nursing home, you can pretty well count on getting hired. For someone with little access to education living on the edge of poverty, this fact is a godsend. Yet, caveats lurk. There are countless reports of understaffing in nursing homes, underfunding, limited regulations where it matters (staff pay, patient ratio) and reels of red tape where it doesn’t (hours of required paperwork that detail how many ounces of water the resident drank, but not how they cry at night for their children). And while you may be trained on how to wipe from front to back, there’s no training to prepare you for the psychic toll of watching your people suffer until they die.
There are plenty of reasons to see nursing homes as sad, neglectful places, and I’m sorry to say that my experience working in one did not change this perception. But I can also say that the perception has less to do with staffing, funding, and regulations (or lack thereof) and much more to do with our country’s fear of death, its rejection of vulnerability, and its subsequent inability to see the inherent dignity in people — especially in their vulnerable moments.”
Our latest feature, “The Sunset” by Lisa Bubert, is a gutting, illuminating read on the elder care system and our culture’s rejection of vulnerability.

I think what makes the most sense is if Aylin has extremely short hair for a long time post-canon, almost shaved if not shaved at times, and then eventually grows it out again. Short hair is just easier to manage when she's already struggling and overwhelmed and adjusting to life after a century of torment. She's also trying to reclaim some power over the trauma of it being cut against her will by essentially revisiting what happened except now she's in control, she's holding the shears. As well as ensuring no one can ever take her hair from her again. She's cutting it off and burning it; there's nothing for them to take. It's an imperfect way of coping, but honestly show me a perfect one.
It's a long time — I'm talking years — before she decides to grow it out again. It's part of an attempt to move beyond what's been done to her, to rediscover how she wants to look not how she thinks it's safe to look. It's another way of reclaiming autonomy and power over herself, wearing her crown of hair in spite of those who would take it from her. It's also done in memory of the people, especially the women, she loved in her past. Erlona, the Four Moons, the priestesses in the temple — hair care was a shared ritual. Even Meadowlin brushed and braided her hair. She struggles a lot with physical touch after being freed, and she's hard on herself about that; she used to be so free with it. She used to fear nothing. But, it starts with trusting Isobel to help with her hair and slowly grows to trusting other people. She has a community again; she has family and friends again; she can trust and be safe and be loved.
Maybe there will be periods where she cuts it again and grows it out and shaves half and styles it a different way and dyes it. Ultimately, it's not about the hair. It's not about beauty or even femininity. It's about what the hair means to her. Having control over her own body and how she presents it. Having a connection to the community, to the people, that were her home. Carrying those rituals of intimacy forward into new relationships, feeling safe and loved again.
#META / HC: PRIMARY.#I do think most women in Moonhaven had long hair#but I don't think it was about femininity or even necessarily beauty#I don't think there was a stigma against women cutting their hair or dyeing it or styling it different ways#instead it was more about the community and the closeness#again that shared ritual of caring for and styling each other's hair#even women who wore their hair short would have it cut by others in the community and have help oiling or styling it#[not that this was exclusive to women in Moonhaven but Aylin grew up in the temple which had a majority female clergy#she explored and played in town and traveled etc but it was like growing up in a large household of mostly women y'know]#smth smth hair holding memories so no matter how far you go it can always lead you home#like a ball of twine in the maze#like the moon you are always new and always ancient. always who you were and who you are and who you will be#and your elders are always with you too. their hand is on yours each time you brush your hair#I imagine it was very common in Moonhaven to have a circle of women brushing and styling the hair of the woman in front of them#oldest to youngest and back again. smth smh the mother -maiden - crone of Selûne exemplified

This is just sad, but I have to mention it.
Because this just plain SHOWS YOU how America treats our most frail, poor and downtrodden. We show up, do the LEAST and then refuse to change a thing, for DECADES. Read this. Read the whole thing. This is happening NOW in the 21st century, so yeah, if you have a conscience you either need to be angry or deeply ashamed, if not both.
The short of it is, if you end up elderly and too frail (from bad health) to live on your own, you go in a nursing home on Medicaid. A condition of this is that ALL income you have goes towards the nursing home bill, and you ONLY get a monthly allowance. That allowance is expected to cover everything from new clothes and shoes to denture supplies to the occasional vending-machine grade snack, for a whole month. It started at $25 a month in 1972 and was only raised ONCE in to $30 in 1987. Those are minimums: a few states have raised it to $40 but not much more. Alaska has raised theirs the most--and keep in mind that this is ALASKA we're talking about here, where warm clothes are at a premium for everyone. You would expect the northern-most state of the Union, and the one with the most spare petroleum money, and the least population, to do more.
But the point is that most of our most impoverished and frail elderly live in deliberate and mandated EXTREME want. These are people who can't afford a pen and paper to write letters home with. They can't afford their own toothbrushes and toothpaste (or denture goods that work). They're basically forced into beggary for every last thing at the end of their lives.
And you wonder why some people choose to die instead of living like that. This shit's depressing even for someone younger to deal with. I get that. But this really and truly shows you how cheap and back-biting America has become. Nobody cares. Nobody gives a fuck. If we did we would have done right by these people in the first fucking place, instead of doing the LEAST and letting conservatives ruin that.
Yes, other people suffer similar kinds of mandated poverty in the United States. I'm not here to invalidate any of that. I'm just pointing out one of the most extreme versions of a phenomenon that America really needs to give up on. We really need to stop trying so hard to betray and destroy our own people.
