What The Hell Happened?
Chapter 1: The Beginning
| Hello, this is my first ever story I'm posting here, so please let me know what y'all think! |
When Y/N first came into South Park, she could honestly care less. She was already upset at the new hairstyle, change of clothes, and change of weather—from California's hot, humid air to five inches of cold snow in Colorado. She wasn’t ready for it.
"Come on sweetie, get all your boxes out of the truck," called her mom. Stepping out of the car, Y/N feels the speedy wind hitting her round face. Her cheeks reddening at the instant touch, “Y/N put your coat on, it’s freezing,” calls her mom. She sighs, grabs her jacket, and hurriedly grabs a box to head to her room. After an hour, all the boxes were in the house, and Y/N immediately went to her room to sleep, however, her parents had other plans, “Uh, sweetie, we want you to have lots of fun here. Why don’t you go outside and make some friends?”
“Right, get outside and PLAY, son like normal kids,” her dad says skeptically. That’s when everything changes for her, years of fun, friends, wizardry, and superheroes.
It was a cold Friday afternoon when she heard a whiny shout coming from her window. “Hey Butthole, get out here!” Y/N looks out her window to look down to see Cartman yelling.
“Dude, why didn’t you just call him?” Stan questions Eric.
“Well… asshole I can do whatever I want” Eric responds with a voice crack to him. Before they could finish their argument, Y/N left her house in a huge dark green parka and black winter coveralls. “See, it worked didn’t it, come on we need to get Kyle too.”
“Dude, we can’t remember, he’s babysitting Ike tonight.”
“God Dammit, fine, we’ll just go and get Butters, come on Coon Friends.” Stan just rolls his eyes while following Cartman with Y/N right behind him. Even after three years, Cartman has to remind them both of their times together.
Knocking on Butter’s door, his dad answers with a gruff. “Butter’s your friends are at the door.” Butters runs down the stairs with his iconic huge smile. “Oh, hey there fellas, how are you guys-”
“Just fine, now look, we need to head to Casa Bonita right away!’ Eric cuts Butters off.
“What, no, we need to finish that stupid project for Miss Smith-” Stan intervenes but Cartman wasn’t having it.
“But there is something evil happening at Casa Bonita, we need to save all those burritos, tamales, and Sopaipillas! C’mon guys, don’t you care!” Silence was heard all around, which only built the fire in Cartman’s stomach. “C'mon guys, all of the food is going to be gone!”
“Why are you saying all this fatass?” Stan asks?
“They are having a free food sale, they are just giving it away like a whore!look, it’s an ad in the newspaper!” Everyone then looked at the newspaper in Cartman’s hand to see a white piece of paper with “FREE FOOD,” written in crayon.
“Dude, you just made this,”
“No, I didn’t!”
“Yes, you did, no restaurant would make this a sale, c’mon Butthole, let’s just go to my house and get this stupid project done.” Stan motions Y/N.
“Hey asshole’s, we need to go to Casa Bonita now!” However, the two just ignored Cartman’s wishes and hurriedly left to go to Stan’s house. “C’mon Butter’s, we can go by ourselves, more food for us!”
“Hurray!” Butter’s shouts with joy.
* 5 minutes later *
Y/N and Stan arrived at his house to see Randy in his underwear (as per usual) with a huge blunt in his hand. “Oh hey son, c’mere, I gotta show you something.”
“No thanks dad, me and the new kids are just gonna go upstairs to finish a project for school.”
'Y'know burps that girl has been here for three years, she isn’t new.’
“What do you mean by her?”
“Son, she’s clearly a girl, look at her boobs!”
“Ew gross dude, we're just gonna go upstairs”
“Leave that damn door open!” Stan, of course, doesn’t listen to his dad. Closing the door behind him Stan immediately stared at Y/N in her eyes.
“New Kid, you are a girl?!” She answers with a nod. “Why didn’t you say anything? I’m sorry it took so long for me to realize it, well more of my Dad saying something, but why didn’t say anything?” That’s when Y/N told all of her secrets to Stan, the years of pretending were finally over.
The next day, Y/N contacted everyone in Tolkien’s mansion, as she knew it was finally time to come clean. At first, everyone was skeptical, not believing in what she said but it all came down when the boy’s past comments came to light. However, all the girls there knew already.
Cartman: You know, you have kind of pretty hair for a boy. You better not be a hippie or something.
Jimmy: I thought feminine-looking guys went out of style in the 80’s, but the new kids pulled it off.
Clyde: You kind of have big raisins for a boy, New Kid.
Scott: I’ve never seen a boy with such soft skin, what’s your secret?
Butters: Hey, Butthole. Anyone tell you for a boy you’re kinda pretty?
Kenny: You kind of remind me of my sister—I have this weird urge to protect you.
Stan: You know, for a boy, you’re kind of feminine New Kid.
Kyle: There’s nothing wrong with a boy being feminine, be true to yourself.
That day, Y/N finally felt normal.
Senior year finally comes ahead! Y/N and Stan are outside of South Park High waiting for Craig and Kenny to get out of detention. “How in the hell are these already in detention, it’s the first fucking week, dude!” Y/N just shrugs at Stan’s comment, “like c’mon man, I’m just ready to smoke already.” She looks over to the black hair man, his gray jacket clinging to his skinny figure with ripped blue jeans and red converse. “What, you acting like you’ve never smoked before,...unless you haven’t.” Y/N just nods. “Holy shit, you should come with us, y’know my dad, he grows his own, it’s a lot of fun, I promise.” She, at first, stares at Stan with discouragement. She was kinda scared to do it, but she already drank before, what could possibly go wrong. A half an hour later, Kenny races towards her.
“Hey beautiful, you gonna come over with us?” Kenny was a classic pothead, constantly reeking of weed, with bloodshot eyes, and a no-care attitude but he always cared for Y/N. He always took care of her, even when stoned, he would walk her home after any party, stay beside as she needed to vent. “C’mon, it will be so much funnnn” he longs out the n. She stares at his brown eyes, pale skin, and blond hair. She couldn’t help herself and nodded a yes.
“Sweet, cmon. Let’s head to my house, “ exclaims Stan. Y/N, happily walks beside the two, if only Y/N knew all the fun that would happen.

There was, in my experience, two solid ways to find a zine in 1985. This was the year Back to the Future, Enemy Mine, and Coocoon all came out. Star Trek returned to prime time two years later. It was a seismic shift in which sci-fi went from being for dorks to being cool. It was a hell of a time to be alive. It was also when I first started publishing fanfic.
The first most effective way to find a zine to subscribe to was to flip to the back of your StarLog magazine. Anyone who was into Sci-Fi or fantasy subscribed to StarLog. Wild stuff went on in the back of StarLog because this was where the classifieds were.
If you are younger than 20 you might not know what a Classified Ad is. Back in the dark times, before the internet, the way you got information out to the world was to mail a couple of lines of text, about the length of a short Tweet, to your favorite newspaper or magazine along with a very reasonable ad fee. The editorial staff would then put your classified ad in the classified section where there were hundreds of other tiny ads. The ads could be for anything from a car for sale to someone looking for a date.
But in StarLog the ads were usually one of two things: Sci-fi Conventions and Zines. You would also see a lot of ads labeled 'fan club' these were targeted at a younger audience, but apart from the lack of racy art and erotica they were, essentially, just Zines. both fan clubs and Zines were cheap to subscribe to. You would take 4 envelopes, put a stamp and your mailing address on each of them then put them in another envelope with a dollar bill and mail that to the Zine address. If you had aspirations of being a published fan fiction writer you would mail your manuscript to the zine as well. You may or may not make it into the Zine. I was 13 so I did not get into a lot of Zines this way.
The second way to find Zines was to get on your bike and ride down to the comic shop, or maybe the video rental store (Not Blockbuster usually) and check the public bulletin board. You might find ads for Zines stuck to the board, or you might even find the zines themselves. Our local comics shop had a Zine of the month, you could come in, pull the Zine off the bulletin board, read it while sitting on the crappy couch in the back corner and then stick it back to the board when you were done. I got into a lot more of these Zines.
I started writing fanfic when I was still very young, 10 or 11 I think, I didn't know at the time that it had a name, I was writing because it was important to who I was then. I suppose I began publishing because the classified ad said "Do you have Star Trek Stories you'd like to share?" and I did and they asked nicely so I sent them.
I have no idea what my readership might have been, I don't know if they enjoyed my stories, or if they even finished them, I can presume that the editors who chose to publish my work must have liked it. Or maybe they were just desperate for something to put in the Zine, I don't really know. The type of validation we have now wasn't achievable then so no one thought of it.
But it was a fun adventure all the same.

Along with all the newspapers came a bunch of old National Riflemen magazines, Life magazine and Look magazines. These vintage car ads from LOOK kicks ass. The Firebird HO description is to funny. I had a 68' Firebird for a short time, damn that was a fun car. Those of us born in the 70's had it good in so many ways. One of them was when we were hitting driving age, the Boomers were selling off those 60's and 70's cars for family cars like station wagons. Firebirds, Camaros, 50's Chevys, Darts, Gran Torino's, Mustangs were for sale all over the place. Man we had the best cars.

TW: homophobia, dementia, toxic family, death
So I just finished watching The Notebook (yes, I cried like a little baby). So, to add to the list of fics that I will never write, I present:
Dreamling: The Notebook AU (with a spark of homophobia, because this is the '40s)
Dream Oneiros Endless comes from a large rich family. Robert (Hob) Gadling comes from the complete opposite and works at a mill. They meet through mutual friends. Hob continuously asks Dream out, which he responds to negatively each time (let's just say that they both managed to find friend groups that are also secretly queer, so they don't care). Eventually, Hob does the "hangs from the ferris wheel" scene, gets a promise from Dream to go on a date with him, the movie scene happens, etc. They finally go on that walk and Dream falls for him. Yay, happy scenes as they fall further in love.
And then Dream mentions that he has to go to New York for college (they can be American in this AU or there can be another reason for this). They go to the abandoned house, where they talk about fixing up the house. Things are heating up when Matthew, Hob's friend, tells them that Dream's parents have the police out looking for him. They go back to his house, the whole argument with the parents happen (perhaps with the siblings looking on or overhearing from another room. Destiny and Death, whatever their names happen to be in this AU, are probably moved out at this point, but maybe they could be visiting for some reason or they find out about this whole thing another way). The argument between Hob and Dream happens and he leaves.
The next day, Dream is informed that they are leaving. He tries to go to the mill to talk to Hob, but he's not there, so they miss each other. Hob writes a letter to Dream every day for a year, but Dream's mother throws them out. Death somehow finds them and saves them all, but something stops her from giving them to Dream.
Hob enlists in the army. Perhaps Dream has some form of condition that prevents him from enlisting, but he works as a nurse instead. There, he meets Calliope, a fellow nurse. They begin to get to know each other and Dream goes back to school once he is able to. His parents approve of Calliope, as she comes from old money and is a (respectable) woman. He proposes and they are engaged.
Hob, meanwhile, returns and finally gets the house that they talked about. When going to get materials to fix it up, he spots Dream and runs to talk to him but ends up seeing him with Calliope instead. He returns to the house and focuses wholeheartedly on that. Once he's finished with it, he lists it as for sale but no buyer seems good enough. He gets involved with Eleanor, but they both know that she's not who he really wants.
Calliope is buying a wedding dress and someone brings her a newspaper, where there is information about the wedding printed. Someone leaves it on a table and Dream ends up coming across it. He unfolds it and sees the ad about Hob and the house. He contemplates for a while and then informs Calliope that he needs to return to Seabrook (or whatever the town is) to settle some things.
He finds the house and Hob. He freezes up and Dream goes to leave, but, being a horrendous driver, he drives right into the fences and the car stalls. Hob invites him in and they catch up and have dinner. Dream leaves and Hob asks him to come again tomorrow.
They have the day out on the lake and it begins to rain. Dream finds out about the letters. Things heat up quickly after that and they finally have sex. Dream and Eleanor meet.
The next morning, Hob is gone but has left a note. Dream follows the arrows and paints, with only a blanket around him, on the porch. Someone arrives and he hurries down to greet them. It's his sister.
Death (or whatever her name is in this) informs him that Calliope is coming. He asks if she knew about the letters and she tells him what happened and then asks him to drive with her. She takes him into town, where she points out a woman who she says that she had been in love with and had tried to run away with but had been caught, but that she sometimes goes there to watch her and think about how life might have been.
She drives him back and tells him that she hopes that he makes the right decision and gives him the letters. Hob and Dream fight again and then he goes back to the hotel, where he and Calliope talk.
Finally, Dream returns to the house and he and Hob remain together.
Years later, Dream is diagnosed with dementia. He writes their story in a notebook together and writes a note in it, asking Hob to read it to him and promising that he will come back if he does. Hob continuously reads it to him, getting him to remember before he soon forgets again.
The most recent time is too much for Hob and he breaks down and is found unconscious in bed the next morning. After being rushed to the hospital, he returns and tells the nurse that he wants to see Dream ("Mr. Endless"). The nurse pretends to insist that he return to his room.
Hob goes to Dream's room and he remembers him. The two talk of miracles and the next morning, the nurse finds them in the bed, having passed away together.

"Used Tombstone for Sale. One Only."
Putting classified ads in the newspaper was both easier and more difficult than I expected. Easy to walk into the office, fill out the paper given to me, and hand over the appropriate amount of money. Difficult to ignore the looks the clerk woman gave me as I hobbled in on my own and at what I requested.
But I suppose they had a rule against asking too many questions, lest they insult the people who essentially pay their wages. So she took my ad request and money and told me it’d run for the following week. Hopefully one week was all I’d need. Short as the ad was, it took what coins I had left.
Outside the bystander office, my pink and white bike was thankfully still where I left it tied with frayed rope to a lamp post. One of the training wheels was stuck on a crack in the curb and I struggled to yank it loose.
The sun was still rising as I peddled and peddled down Main St, taking the long way to avoid Mulkey Road. It’d already been 5 weeks since, but I just couldn’t bring myself to go anywhere near the road sign, much less take a stroll down. Even if it added 10 extra minutes to my pumping legs commute.
The back road past Main St was still in a somber mood. Doors stay closed and windows locked. Gates were chained and flower boxes sat empty to collect rainwater. Not a hint or hue of color to be seen as I biked past the houses. Somehow even the painted wood dulled in the time passed.
My silent home sat near the end of the road. The smallest, but with the most land. Enough for my father’s workshop in clear view of the neighborhood. A workshop that was bigger than the actual house: a simple one bedroom home with a small kitchen and living room combo. My father always insisted the bedroom belonged to me, even if I usually ended up sleeping on the pull out couch with him.
A pull out couch that was still out and messed up. I hadn’t found any reason to make it up or put it away. And despite the fact that all I’d done that morning was go downtown, I was exhausted. The residual heat inside was already dwindling, chill rubbing into my bones.
Creaky springs from years too long of a life under faded cushions. Wrapping myself up in the red knit blanket, scratching at my chipped blue nail polish, and shutting my eyes.
It was a few days before I got a bite. A few days of nothing but sleeping and heating up cans of soup on the stove, not going anywhere else except shuffling back and forth between the couch and kitchen. A trail of scattered dust wove from the couch cushions to the front of the stove.
Somehow the phone hadn’t been cut off yet, and the loud ring jostled me from a nightmare of red stained concrete. “Hello?”
“I’m calling about the ad in the paper? For the- the t-tombstone?”
I bolted up, getting tangled in my blankets in the process. “Yes! Yes. That’s me. I mean- you’re interested?”
“I am. How- how much is the asking price?”
“Oh, um.” Damn it. I hadn’t even thought about that. No amount of money would keep me in the house indefinitely, and I had just enough food left until the end of the month when the late payments would finally collapse on me. “Eight hundred?”
“E-even though it’s used?”
“Well, it is a very nice tombstone. Black granite and doves engraved in the corners. No chips, scratches, or anything like that.” I took very good care of it.
The buyer was a young person, which I was grateful for. Young burying the old was the best way to go and I don’t think I could’ve choked down taking eight hundred dollars from some poor parent or grandparent who lost their child. No matter how much I needed it.
Around 30 years old and shaking feverishly as soon as she stepped out of the car. The buyer drove an old red Camaro with a dented bumper and one missing rearview mirror. A long riding trailer was hooked to its hitch.
Average height with plain clothes. Long blonde hair pulled into a twisted braid that I thankfully saw through the living room window. I briefly braided my own crinkling hair and stared at myself in the mirror.
It would do well enough.
The buyer saw the tombstone waiting in the front yard and stumbled on the walkway. I sucked in a breath and waited, but she quickly collected herself. I had given simple but important instructions that I watched her follow from the safety of my home.
The money was placed in an envelope that she took from a crossbody bag and dropped delicately on the front stoop. The tombstone was already on a pad of felt that she took hold of and easily dragged it across the unruly grass and onto the trailer.
She was sweating by the time it was safely on, but I could see hints of muscle working away under her shirt sleeves. She latched up the small gate on the back of the trailer, hopped in the car, and with one last fleeting glance at my home, sped away with the tombstone.
I waited until she was just down the road before exiting. My bike was ready, the rusty wire basket’s contents hidden under a dish towel. The chain squealed when I initially pushed it out of the grass and onto the road, but once I got it turning it cracked enough to not fall apart.
The funeral parlor, the only one within 50 miles, wasn’t too far into town. Thanks to the minimal speed limits, I was able to catch up to the buyer fairly quickly. Even with my ankle getting knocked by the revolving petal every other wheel spin, the tombstone on the trailer slowed down her Camaro enough.
The buyer stopped outside the funeral parlor and walked inside. I waited across the road, hidden by large, ornamental bushes. I watched as the undertaker and his assistant came out with the buyer withering away behind them. The assistant took the buyer’s car and the undertaker and buyer got into the waiting hearse around the side.
They all left in a shortened processional and I dutifully joined. I peddled and peddled, my knees growing weary the farther the hearse went. Canned beans and salsa on stale bread was proving to be a poor diet to do so much exercise on. I had been too cowardly to confront the buyer in person and ask the location of the funeral and this was my punishment.
Finally, a reprieve. The hearse turned off the main road onto a gravel path leading towards. It slowed to a crawl, the tires crunching over the small rocks as it headed through a large iron gate.
I hopped off my bike, my bones cracking from the soreness built up, but kept pushing on after it with my bike in tow. It was a cemetery, not a graveyard thankfully, dug into the side of a hill downspout from the forest surrounding town. The gravel path curved down and to the left to the bottom of the hill where a small group of people had already gathered.
The hearse stopped and so did I. Hidden in the shadows of the forest, I watched the buyer get out of the car and solemnly walk to the group of mourners who accepted her with open, teary arms. They climbed the hill to a marked plot while the undertaker began to extract the casket from the hearse.
The mourners were a small handful of people. A few women had hand fans that cracked as they were thrust open. A man in a bowler hat stood over the casket with a reserved face, save the clear discontent upon seeing the tombstone.
Only the buyer showed any real emotion. Remorse for the small affair. Sorrow for her loss. Gratitude for the warm bodies, however reclused they were, surrounding her. Somber for the distasteful weather the funeral had to be held in. Disdain at the mismatched tombstone to the body that now was being nudged into the soil.
I listened to the typical words: short prayers and generic stories, some that weren’t even true but who was going to fact check? Compliments and farewell wishes. Nothing bad was said. Nothing a true testament to his true character, whatever it was. No one ever spoke ill about the dead until the grave was out of sight and alcohol was in their system.
No flowers were thrown on the casket before it was covered up. No further tears were shed. All attendants shuffled away and down the hill, thankfully not in my direction. Back towards the gate.
The undertaker and his assistant shook the buyer’s hand before taking the hearse away. She turned her head to the sky, staring into the bleak overcast. It was almost melancholy, the picturesque scene before me on the hill.
The buyer carefully stepped down the hill, the freshly cut grass still attacking her legs.
I took her place
I could see it. The tombstone was at the head of the freshly filled grave. Beautiful flowers already adorned the soil and I knelt to brush some aside to read the inscription.
Edward Dalca
Beloved father
I thought about what the undertaker had told the buyer. It would be a few days before he could change the words. It was eerie and a bit haunting to think that the people who had just grieved a complete stranger had done so to my father’s name.
I took my little trowel from my bike’s basket and started to dig.
Somewhere nearby, I could hear a scream that was cut off by a gasp for breath. I guess the buyer either hadn’t gotten far or was coming back to say another goodbye farewell see you later.
Hurried footsteps behind me, sharp nails digging into my shoulders and she yanked back. Screaming in my face, obscenities that would make the paperboy blush. None of which I think I heard. I was too focused on the grave behind her.
He’d been buried shallow, the buyer’s great uncle. That and with even my sad excuse for a shovel, I had gotten to the body before the buyer found me.
I leapt forward and shoved her; she was too busy yelling at the corpse to notice my sudden movement.
My trowel cut into everything. Dirt, rocks, bones, flesh. Mixing fresh and old blood into the deathly soil, fertilizing it like a macabre gardening project. On the edge of the cemetery while the screams of the buyer were quickly snuffed out by chokes and desperate pleas for relief.
My necklace came free during all this. My name, Nyssa Dalca, was spelled out in shiny white beads amongst polished smooth stones. Granite and limestone. The same many of the tombstones surrounding us were made from.
Finally, the sounds died down and the buyer stayed put in the shallow grave. I wiped off my trowel against the exposed casket and the buyer’s shirt and swept the upheaved dirt on top. Patting down the grave flat like burying a box containing your first deceased childhood pet. That, as a child you don’t realize, doesn’t like its claws being painted blue.
Standing up, I pulled my blonde hair into a twisted braid; picking up a stick from the forest floor to stab right through the unfamiliar strands, keeping it in place. I was still a bit hungry from my meager breakfast, and according to the undertaker’s assistant, there was a dinner being held at the diner nearby.
Selling my father’s tombstone hurt initially, but his journal and final letter to me was clear it needed to be done. I write this, my first account, to compare to his. He made a living for a good 76 years and, in his letter, assured me I could do the same.
Leaving me so young wasn’t part of the plan, and I have no idea what I’m going to do next, but at least with these muscles I can get started in his workshop. Another tombstone will need to be made.

Being a newspaper editor in the pandemic is hard.
It’s all working from home because the office isn’t safe, and I had to lay off two of my three reporters because our subscriptions and ad sales just plummeted, and we can’t afford to keep them.
This means that on top of pasting the paper together, I have to write a good chunk of the news content for our daily. Luckily, there’s no sports right now so I don’t have to do sports. I’m not good at sports.
But it is overwhelming to try to fill pages A1-3 with local content when you’re supposed to be doing other pages on top of it and you have less reporters. And you’re a daily. And you’re on a strict deadline because if you goof then the paper is late and your remaining dwindling subscribers don’t get their paper on time.
So when I discovered that time stops in my garage closet, naturally I abused it.
To put it distinctly, I am anal. I have been forever. Everything has to be perfect the first time around because I don’t have time to fix it. This results in a culmination of panic episodes and zoning out until I’m essentially asleep with my eyes open. Both are a waste of time.
I found the closet trick by accident. I went out to the garage for a garage fridge beer and dropped a can, which exploded all over my car. So I went to the closet to get the car wash stuff and slipped on the empty can on the way in, smacking my face on the wall and knocking myself out. Somehow, probably from the broom I kicked over, the door shut.
I woke up what I presumed to be hours later, but when I walked out of the closet and went back to my computer, it was still the same time it had been when I left to get a beer.
I was perplexed to say the least. I didn’t have time to exploit time now, but I would investigate when I finish tomorrow’s paper, I thought.
The paper was pasted as normal and I was done with work around 5 p.m. I grabbed my watch and my phone and went back out to the garage.
I started the timer on my phone when the second hand on my watch struck twelve. This was just to ensure both my watch and timer work perfectly. A control, so to speak.
After I determined everything was working, and time passes normally in the garage, I entered the garage closet. My watch’s second hand immediately stopped ticking. My phone read 5:12 p.m.
I started the timer on my phone and it counted up. When it got to one minute, neither my watch nor the digital clock on my phone had changed. I waited for the timer to get up to two minutes. Then three. Then five. Then ten. Then fifteen. Nothing changed.
I stepped out of the closet. Nothing changed. Time stopped in the closet.
The universe had answered my prayers for a break, I thought. A helpful break, which I could take at any time of day and not delay or run behind or miss deadlines. I wondered if everyone stopped around me outside the closet, or if just the units of measurement for time paused. I had no roommates so I had no way to know.
At least, until one day. One overwhelming, terrifying day.
The publisher emailed me telling me we had to knock my remaining reporter down to part time. I lost my only full time reporter. When I told him this, he quit.
So now I was the editor of a daily newspaper with no reporters. Fuck me.
I emailed my alma mater to see if I could get an unpaid intern. But the advisor replied they were not requiring internship credit for graduation during the pandemic.
I had three spaces to fill on the front with headlines. I didn’t want to fill them with newswire, which isn’t local, so I called every source I could think of and their mother to find story ledes. I filled two.
It was deadline in five minutes and I lacked the third I needed. And the opinion page wasn’t done. And the “Dear Abby” weekly column we ran wasn’t submitted yet. I was going to cry.
So I went to the closet. This isn’t the first time I’ve been in this situation after all. I needed time to cry, time to calm down and time to come up with a solution.
When I opened the door, a college freshman was standing in it.
“Who are you and why are you in my closet?!” I shouted.
He flinched. “Umm, I’m Tom, and this is gonna sound weird, but I discovered that time stopped in my college dorm closet so I’ve been hiding in it when I procrastinate on assignments. I’m not sure what went wrong this time but I seem to have transported to this closet. Which appears to be yours. If you don’t mind, I’ll just get out and get back in and perhaps I’ll go back to where I came from.”
He said this with humor in his tone so I laughed. “I believe you. Time stops in this closet too so I’ve been hiding in here when I feel I’m going to miss a deadline. I work in news.”
“Ah,” Tom stepped out of the closet and closed the door. “Where are we exactly?”
“Indianapolis.”
His eyes got wide. “I’m from Phoenix.”
“Arizona?”
Tom nodded.
“Whoa,” I said. “Well, I hope you’re right about the closet transporting you back because I don’t have a way to get your across the US for free in a pandemic.”
Tom opened the door and stepped in. He closed it.
I opened it five minutes later - completely forgetting about my deadline - and he was gone.
I stepped in, checking my watch and starting a timer again just to see if it still worked properly. Things appeared to be smooth until I stepped out.
I was in Tom’s college dorm room.
There’s a room in your house that exists outside of normal time. No one can bother you because no time passes between you going in and coming out no matter how long you’re there. Until one day someone is already there.

Trudeau Government to Send $250 Cheques to Most People, Slash GST on Some Goods
Trudeau Government to Send $250 Cheques to Most People, Slash GST on Some Goods Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a series of new measures on Thursday aimed at alleviating affordability pressures that Canadians have been facing in the post-COVID era. Key among these initiatives is a two-month GST holiday on certain goods and services, along with $250 cheques for eligible Canadians. Key Announcements The Liberal government will distribute $250 cheques to an estimated 18.7 million Canadians who worked in 2023 and earned $150,000 or less. These payments, referred to as the "Working Canadians Rebate," are expected to be distributed in "early spring 2025." The GST/HST holiday will commence on December 14 and run through February 15, 2025. During this period, a variety of goods will be exempt from the GST, including: - Prepared foods (vegetable trays, pre-made meals, salads, sandwiches) - Restaurant meals (dine-in, takeout, or delivery) - Snacks (chips, candy, granola bars) - Alcoholic beverages (beer, wine, cider, and pre-mixed drinks below 7% ABV) - Children’s clothing, footwear, car seats, and diapers - Children’s toys (board games, dolls, video game consoles) - Books, print newspapers, and puzzles - Christmas trees Trudeau stated, “For two months, Canadians are going to get a real break on everything they do,” adding that while the government can't control prices at the checkout, it can help put more money into people's pockets. Financial Implications Families spending approximately $2,000 on eligible goods during the GST holiday can expect to save around $100. In provinces with the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), such as Ontario and Nova Scotia, the savings could be even greater—estimated at $260 for the same purchase amount. These measures will come at a significant cost to the federal government, with the GST holiday projected to result in $1.6 billion in lost revenue and the cheque distribution costing about $4.68 billion. Political Context This announcement comes as the Liberal government faces declining popularity, with recent polls showing them trailing the Conservative Party by approximately 17 percentage points. The renewed focus on cost-of-living issues is seen as an attempt to regain support from Canadians who have been feeling the economic pinch. However, there are concerns that these measures could inadvertently fuel inflation, which has recently stabilized at the Bank of Canada's target rate of 2%. Economists have noted that previous government stimulus during the pandemic contributed to rising inflation levels as consumers spent more. Trudeau defended the initiative, asserting that it would not stimulate inflation. Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland also downplayed inflation fears, citing the Bank of Canada's successful rate hikes as a stabilizing factor. Opposition Responses Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre criticized the temporary tax relief as a “trick,” arguing that it does not address the underlying issues of rising costs, particularly with a permanent carbon tax expected to increase in the spring. He claimed that housing costs and food bank reliance have soared under Trudeau's leadership. In contrast, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh expressed support for the affordability measures, stating his party would work to expedite their passage in Parliament. Singh highlighted the need for further action, advocating for the permanent elimination of GST on essential items such as groceries and home heating. Conclusion The Trudeau government's announcement of a GST holiday and targeted financial support reflects an effort to respond to the economic challenges facing Canadians. While the measures aim to provide immediate relief, their long-term effectiveness and impact on inflation remain to be seen. As the holiday season approaches, the political landscape will be closely monitored, with implications for future elections and government policies. Read the full article

Ayup. And the reason for this is the same reason that your local library’s ebook collection may seem a bit disappointing or frustrating. It all comes down to an aspect of US copyright law called First Sale Doctrine.
When you buy a physical copy of an information object--a printed book, a VHS tape, a vinyl record--your purchase includes the right to sell, lend, rent out, or otherwise share that particular copy. You emphatically do not have the right to produce and share additional copies, and in the case of recordings, there are limitations on your right to play that recording for an audience*, but that individual copy can pass through any number of hands without further need to consult--or pay--the copyright owner. Just like how if you buy a car, or a table, or a screwdriver, you can sell, lend, or rent it to another person without involving the manufacturer, or the store you bought it from, in any way.
(*A few friends in your living room, generally OK, selling tickets to show it in an auditorium, definitely not OK, and for most of the territory in between, you’d be best off asking a copyright lawyer.)
When this was first established, in 1854, publishers were furious. It meant that lending libraries--which exploded in popularity in the 1800′s, and frequently became accessible to working-class and even poor people--could buy one copy of a book, and different people could keep reading it until it physically fell apart. Newspaper and magazines, too!
Over the next century or so, print publishers got used to it. When phonograph records came along, and people started lending and reselling them, the owners of those rights were also furious--and also got used to it (although IRRC, they were the ones who got some of the restrictions on display/public performance added). When magnetic audio tape came along, and the average person could easily buy and use the equipment necessary to make copies of sound recordings, the owners of those rights were furious--and got the “no duplicating” part of the doctrine emphasized--but got used to it.
Then video tape came along, and--yep, you guessed it. The “duplicating” and “displaying” sections got beefed up further, but the reselling, lending, and renting provisions of First Sale remained intact, and the movie studios got used to it. Same with optical disks, and various forms of video game cartridges.
Digital information technology, on the other hand, broke the cycle. While it made piracy much easier and more widespread, it also provided an opportunity to do what content owners had wanted to do with every previous information technology upgrade, and put a meter on legitimate sharing.
A library can buy a physical copy of a book anywhere, and for the same price, that an individual person would buy it. There are specialized outlets that work with libraries, and offer various perks and extra services to appeal to that market, but at my previous job, we bought 95% of our print books from Amazon. We did our processing in-house, and our annual book-buying budget wasn’t enough to get us into a discount tier that would net us better prices than Amazon offers to the general public, so we just went with that.
It’s free the regular retail price and the cops copyright lawyers employed by the publisher can’t stop you. They have tried.
And Blockbuster, and the original, DVD-based version of Netflix, operated under pretty much the same principle. (Netflix did end up doing some sort of deal with the major studios where they paid a bit extra for special Netflix-only copies of their movies, and in return the studios refrained from taking another whack at abolishing First Sale doctrine, but Netflix had the upper hand in that negotiation.) The movie studios never liked it much, but they were backed into a corner on it.
But when you pay for a digital copy of a book, movie, song, or whatever, you’re actually licensing it, not buying it, and therefore First Sale Doctrine never kicks in. Some platforms allow a certain amount of peer-to-peer sharing as a way of disincentivizing piracy--like how you can lend Kindle books to 1 other person at a time--but if you want to do it on a large scale, like a library does, or like video rental places used to do with tapes and DVDs, you have to acquire a license that lets you do that. And the owner of the content can charge as much as they want for that--or choose not to issue that type of license at all, or issue such a license exclusively to one party; whatever they decide is to their best advantage.
And that’s why streaming platforms are rapidly turning into silos, and why the big entertainment conglomerates would just as soon get out of the business of encoding their wares into physical products that you can buy.
i will never be against piracy ever but i also need physical media to remain

The Benefits of Having an Auto Classified Script for Your Business
Traditionally, we've seen automobile ads in magazines and newspapers. However, technology has transformed this space, particularly with the advent of car classified scripts.
Beyond being a daily necessity, cars ignite a deep passion among enthusiasts. With popular platforms offering convenient ways to buy and sell second-hand vehicles, the excitement for car purchases has surged, allowing car lovers to explore various models affordably and easily.
Letgo is a major classified market player, generating $54.4 million in annual revenue. Statistics report that this figure could reach $177.8 million in the future.
You can surpass these numbers by developing an auto classified script. How?
Here, let's explore the benefits of developing auto classifieds script!
Cost Efficiency
In the realm of classified businesses, launching a buy-sell marketplace app is similar in cost to developing an e-commerce website.
However, despite the complexity involved, an auto classifieds script offers a cost-effective solution. Its functionality efficiently addresses the unique needs of multiple vendors, making it a budget-friendly choice for creating an effective online marketplace for buying and selling second-hand vehicles.
Scalable Business Model
In an online marketplace for automobiles, the financial risk is relatively low because there’s no need to invest in inventory.
However, the key challenge for the marketplace owner is balancing supply and demand as the platform grows. Attracting high-quality sellers can increase the customer base, and a growing customer base can, in turn, attract more sellers.
The automobile classifieds script helps in maintaining this balance between sellers and buyers, ensuring the platform's success.
Broad Accessibility for Online Auto Services
In today’s digital age, online automobile services have become the preferred choice for both individuals and entrepreneurs. Technology offers significant advantages by simplifying processes and enhancing accessibility.
An automobile classifieds script allows users to:
Schedule available dates for vehicle sales, helping buyers find vehicles at the right time.
Streamline workflows for sellers, making the process more efficient and organized.
This approach reduces manual effort and improves the overall experience for both buyers and sellers.
User-Friendly Features for Optimal User Experience
For an optimal user experience, especially for those who may not be tech-savvy, it's essential to design your car classified ads platform with user-friendly features. Here’s how an automobile classifieds script can enhance usability:
Multiple Login Options: Users can choose from various login methods, making the sign-up process quick and convenient.
Advanced Search Options: Users can easily find the car they’re looking for using detailed search filters.
Simple Booking Procedure: Once users select their car, the booking process is simple and user-friendly.
Flexible Payment Methods: Users have several payment options to choose from such as credit/debit cards, digital wallets, and PayPal. This makes transactions easy and secure.
Order Confirmation: Users receive clear confirmation of their orders, ensuring they are informed throughout the process.
A well-designed auto-classified script simplifies the entire process, making car selling and buying seamless and hassle-free for both sellers and buyers.
Efficient Processes for Rapid Turnaround
Unlike traditional methods, an auto classifieds script enables rapid turnaround without the need for a central figure to manage every action.
Advertisers can easily list their cars and provide the necessary details directly, eliminating the need to seek permissions or rely on intermediaries.
This streamlined approach allows them to quickly launch their ad campaigns and start creating ads without delays.
Expanding Reach with a Global Audience
Expanding your reach to a global audience is essential for modern businesses, and an automobile classifieds script provides a strong foundation for this. By establishing a robust online presence, you can attract a diverse audience, even on an international scale.
To succeed, your buy-sell marketplace platform must cater to various audience preferences and become a preferred destination for their needs. The auto classified business model opens an opportunity for you to tap into a vast market beyond geographical limits, increasing your reach and productivity.
The key features in the classified ads app, such as multiple languages, multiple currencies, and geo-location capabilities, support global expansion. With these features, you can easily engage with users worldwide and enhance your platform’s appeal across different regions.
Real-Time Updates and Efficient Inventory Management
Keeping inventory up-to-date is crucial in the automotive industry, and a good auto classifieds script ensures this by providing real-time updates. The platform efficiently manages vehicle listings, ensuring that users see accurate and current information.
Real-time updates prevent the advertising of vehicles that are already sold, which helps build trust between buyers and sellers. This reliability encourages repeat visits and fosters customer loyalty.
These features contribute to the overall revenue potential of the platform.
Real-Time Analytics
Automobile classified software provides platform owners with real-time analytics to track sales accurately.
With these metrics, platform owners can see which products and services are in high demand and which vendors are favored by customers. This information helps them to promote the most relevant offerings to users.
Additionally, it enables app owners to make informed decisions and optimize their platform to better meet customer needs.
Cost-Effective Digital Promotion
Traditional advertising often involves significant expenses and reliance on third parties. However, the automobile classifieds script offers a more cost-effective alternative. You can promote your business on platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook for free, turning low investment into high profit.
Digital promotions are more advanced and influential than traditional modes. In-built marketing features like reviews, ratings, comments, and shares serve as indirect endorsements of your business.
To create a strong business presence, focus on crafting a professional outlook that resonates with your audience. This includes your logo, images, descriptions, and overall brand identity. Choose these elements wisely and implement them strategically.
Monetization Opportunities
An auto classifieds script offers multiple ways to generate revenue, tailored to the second-hand market and its users. This platform provides more diverse monetization options than traditional methods, including:
Commission Fees
The primary revenue source of classified platforms is commission fees, which are charged to users and sellers for using the platform. Signing up for the platform is free, and the transparent fee structure builds trust among users.
Advertising Revenue
The platform also earns money through advertisements, providing a secondary income stream. By allowing other businesses to advertise on your platform, you can generate additional revenue with minimal effort, which can be used for platform maintenance and business growth.
Subscription Charges
Many classified businesses prefer subscription models for their ease of use and steady income for platform owners. Users can choose a subscription plan, like a three-month basic plan, paying upfront instead of monthly, which simplifies payments and boosts revenue.
In-App Purchase
Offer users special features for an additional charge to enhance their experience, creating a smart way to generate extra income for the platform. However, it’s important not to depend too heavily on this strategy to generate revenue.
These monetization strategies make the automobile classifieds platform both efficient and profitable.
Summing Up
The second-hand market is thriving, especially in the automobile industry. Incorporating an automobile classifieds script into your business strategy can offer numerous benefits as highlighted above in this blog.
By leveraging the power of auto classifieds scripts, you can effectively reach your target audience, generate leads, and drive sales for your classifieds business.
So, don’t waste time. Choose the best automobile classified script and skyrocket your classified ads business!

The Role of Online Platforms in Selling Your Used Car
In today’s digital age, selling a used car is easier than ever, thanks to the rise of online platforms. Gone are the days when you had to rely solely on newspaper ads or dealership trade-ins. Online platforms have transformed the way we buy and sell cars, providing sellers with broader reach and more competitive pricing options. If you’re planning to sell your used car, understanding the role of these platforms and how to use them effectively can help you get the best value for your vehicle.
How Online Platforms Have Changed the Game
The impact of online platforms on the car-selling process cannot be overstated. They have made it simpler for sellers to connect with potential buyers and have created a more transparent marketplace. Here’s how online platforms have reshaped the used car market:
Wider Audience Reach: Traditional methods limited sellers to local buyers, but online platforms open up your listing to a nationwide or even global audience. This means more visibility and a better chance of finding the right buyer.
Detailed Listings and Tools: Online platforms allow sellers to create detailed listings, complete with photos, vehicle history reports, and even estimated prices. These tools help buyers make informed decisions, which can speed up the selling process.
Ease of Communication: Most platforms provide integrated messaging systems, making it easy to answer buyer queries and negotiate deals without disclosing personal contact details.
Instant Valuations and Offers: Some platforms provide instant car valuation tools or even offer direct purchasing services, allowing you to sell your car without waiting for individual buyers.
Choosing the Right Online Platform for Your Car
With so many platforms to choose from, selecting the right one can be daunting. Here are a few types of platforms to consider:
Classified Websites (e.g., Craigslist, Gumtree): Classified sites are simple to use and are a good starting point if you want to test the waters. These platforms are ideal for sellers looking to interact directly with potential buyers. However, be prepared to handle negotiations and vet serious buyers yourself.
Automotive Marketplaces (e.g., Carsales, Autotrader): Automotive-specific marketplaces are tailored for car sales, offering features like VIN verification, price analysis, and vehicle history checks. These platforms are a go-to for serious buyers and often attract more legitimate leads compared to general classified sites.
Instant Cash Offer Platforms (e.g., CarMax, Carvana): If you want to sell quickly without listing your car, instant offer platforms are a great option. These services will appraise your vehicle online or in-person and provide a cash offer, eliminating the need to wait for a buyer.
Auction Platforms (e.g., eBay Motors): Auction sites like eBay Motors let you set a starting price and watch as potential buyers bid on your vehicle. This can be a good option for unique or high-demand cars, but it requires patience and a clear understanding of the auction process.
Creating an Effective Online Listing
Creating a strong online listing is key to attracting buyers. Here’s how to make your car stand out:
High-Quality Photos: Upload clear, high-resolution photos that showcase your car from different angles. Include shots of the exterior, interior, engine, and any areas with damage or wear and tear.
Accurate Description: Provide a detailed description of your car’s condition, including mileage, service history, upgrades, and any known issues. Transparency builds trust with potential buyers.
Competitive Pricing: Use online pricing tools to determine a fair market price for your car. Setting a competitive price can attract more buyers and increase your chances of a quick sale.
Highlight Unique Selling Points: If your car has unique features, such as a premium sound system, recent upgrades, or low mileage, make sure to mention these in the listing.
Benefits and Drawbacks of Selling Online
While online platforms offer numerous advantages, there are some drawbacks to consider. Here’s a quick overview:
Benefits:
Convenience: Create a listing from the comfort of your home and reach thousands of potential buyers.
Increased Competition: More visibility often means more competition, which can result in higher offers.
Flexible Selling Options: Choose between fixed-price listings, auctions, or instant cash offers based on your priorities.
Drawbacks:
Scammers and Fraud Risk: Online platforms can attract scammers. Be cautious of suspicious offers or requests.
Time-Consuming Inquiries: Sorting through buyer inquiries and scheduling test drives can take up time.
Variable Response Rates: Depending on your car’s condition and price, it may take weeks or months to find the right buyer.
Tips for Safe and Successful Online Car Sales
To ensure a smooth and secure selling experience, keep these safety tips in mind:
Meet in Public Places: Always arrange to meet potential buyers in well-lit, public locations. If possible, bring a friend along.
Avoid Sharing Personal Information: Use the platform’s messaging system and avoid sharing your home address or other sensitive details.
Be Wary of Unsolicited Offers: Scammers often make offers that seem too good to be true or insist on unusual payment methods like wire transfers. Stick to cash or verified payment methods.
Use a Bill of Sale: Prepare a bill of sale and get it signed by both parties. This document serves as proof of the transaction and can protect you in case of disputes.
Final Thoughts
Online platforms have revolutionized the way we sell used cars, providing sellers with flexibility, convenience, and the potential for higher returns. Whether you opt for a classified site, a specialized marketplace, or an instant cash offer service, the key to success is creating a compelling listing and navigating the process with caution. With the right approach, selling your car online can be a rewarding and stress-free experience.

European Commission rejects car industry appeals to delay CO2 emissions targets
The European Commission on Monday opposed calls by carmakers to delay the introduction of 2025 CO2 emission reduction targets for cars, arguing that the sector has had plenty of time to prepare, Euractiv reports.
Under the EU’s CO2 emissions requirements for cars and vans, carmakers have until next year to reduce the average CO2 emissions of their vehicles by 15 per cent from 2021 levels.
However, with electric vehicle sales lagging behind expectations, in an informal document circulated over the weekend, some industry players called for a two-year delay to avoid the risk of billions of dollars in fines. Tim McPhie, Commission spokesperson for climate action, told Euractiv:
“The 2025 target requires – and enables – manufacturers to develop a comprehensive compliance strategy.”
Emphasising that the 2025 target has not changed since the last review of CO2 standards in 2023, which introduced a de facto ban on new petrol and diesel cars from 2035, McPhie added:
“The industry has had quite some time to prepare for this next phase in the transition. The targets that apply from 2025 were adopted by the co-legislators in 2019.”
An industry document seen by Euractiv warns that carmakers could face fines of up to €16bn for failing to meet the EU’s 2025 target.
The document claims that in order to meet the target of 95g CO2 per kilometre by 2025, the market share of electric cars must increase to 20-22%, while the current share of all-electric cars does not exceed 15%.
The document is authored by carmaker Renault, whose CEO Luca de Meo also heads the European carmakers’ association ACEA, French newspaper Le Monde reported.
Renault representatives had no comment.
ACEA declined to comment on the document, but referred to a statement issued last week that said “the EU is still missing crucial conditions for the mass market adoption of zero-emission cars and vans.”

Why Selling Your Car Online in Dubai is Ideal for Expats
For expats living in Dubai, owning a car is often a necessity. The city’s expansive road network and the need for convenient transport make having a car one of the most practical choices for daily commuting. However, when it comes time to leave Dubai or upgrade to a new vehicle, selling a car can seem like a daunting task, especially for expats who may not be familiar with the local market. Fortunately, the option to sell a car online in Dubai has become a seamless and effective solution, particularly for expats who seek convenience, transparency, and speed in the selling process.
In this article, we explore why selling your car online in Dubai is an ideal option for expats and how it simplifies the entire process.
Convenience and Time-Saving
For expats who lead busy lives or are preparing for a move, selling a car in person can be time-consuming and stressful. From placing ads to arranging viewings and negotiating with potential buyers, the traditional method of selling a car can take weeks or even months. This is where selling your car online comes in as a convenient alternative.
With the ability to sell a car online in Dubai, expats can handle the entire process from the comfort of their home or office. Online platforms designed for car sales in Dubai allow you to list your vehicle in just a few steps. All you need to do is upload photos, provide relevant details about the car, and set a price. Many of these platforms offer built-in tools to help you estimate the car's value, further simplifying the process. This not only saves time but also reduces the need for face-to-face interactions, especially when handling multiple buyers.
Access to a Large Pool of Buyers
One of the biggest advantages of choosing to sell a car online in Dubai is the access to a broad range of potential buyers. Dubai’s diverse population includes locals, expatriates, and tourists, all of whom may be in the market for a car. Selling online ensures that your vehicle listing reaches a wide audience across the city and even beyond.
Online platforms typically have thousands of daily users searching for cars, increasing the likelihood of a quick sale. For expats, this means less waiting and a higher chance of selling their car at a fair price. Traditional methods, such as posting ads in local newspapers or waiting for word-of-mouth referrals, cannot compete with the vast reach of online car marketplaces.
Transparent and Competitive Pricing
For expats who may not be well-versed in the intricacies of the local car market, determining the right selling price can be tricky. Overpricing your car can deter buyers, while underpricing it may result in financial loss. When you sell a car online in Dubai, many platforms provide tools that allow sellers to compare prices of similar cars on the market. This helps in setting a competitive and realistic price, ensuring that you attract serious buyers without undervaluing your vehicle.
Moreover, online car sales platforms often offer services like free car inspections and valuations, giving you a clear understanding of your car’s worth before listing it for sale. For expats who are not familiar with the local market or may not have the time to research, these features are incredibly helpful.
Simple Documentation and Hassle-Free Process
One of the common concerns expats face when selling a car in Dubai is dealing with the necessary paperwork. The process of transferring ownership, de-registering the vehicle, and ensuring all the legalities are in place can be confusing, especially for those who are unfamiliar with the procedures.
Selling a car online often simplifies this aspect as many platforms offer comprehensive assistance in handling the paperwork. Some websites even have partnerships with professional services that handle everything from inspection to ownership transfer on behalf of the seller, ensuring a smooth, hassle-free experience. This is particularly beneficial for expats who are busy or planning to leave the country and need a quick resolution.
Safe and Secure Transactions
Safety is a top concern when selling any valuable item, and cars are no exception. Meeting with strangers for test drives or negotiations can be risky. Selling your car online, however, minimizes this risk. Online platforms provide a controlled environment for both buyers and sellers, and some even offer secure payment options that ensure you receive your money before the car changes hands.
For expats who are unfamiliar with local customs and practices, selling through an established online platform adds an extra layer of security, ensuring that the transaction is conducted in a professional and transparent manner.
Conclusion
Selling a car can be a complicated and stressful process, especially for expats in Dubai who may not have a clear understanding of the local market. However, choosing to sell a car online in Dubai offers several advantages that make the process faster, safer, and more convenient. From gaining access to a large pool of buyers to receiving professional assistance with documentation, online car sales platforms streamline the experience and provide a hassle-free solution for expats looking to sell their vehicles.
By opting for an online car sale, expats can save time, ensure competitive pricing, and complete the transaction with confidence, all while enjoying the convenience of modern technology.
