the leaves are edible and my mom thinks they taste like cheese which is why she calls it cheesy hearts. i just think its neat

Notes: iconic seedpod, wild that I only noticed this plant today and it already has seeds on it. The basal leaves remind me of geum/avens which we've been trying to look for.

This lecture takes the listeners on a walk through Middle-earth and shows them the remarkable plants born from the imagination of Professor Tolkien. Among other things, they will learn how tall trees can grow in Middle-earth compared to our world, what Old Man Willow has in common with shepherd's purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris), how plants were domesticated, if trees can really walk, why there are no tomatoes in Middle-earth (in the books, at least) and if athelas is an invasive plant.

Kirjeldus

Hiirekõrv on üheaastane rohttaim, 10-40cm kõrge. Kasvab umbrohuna mitmesugustel paikadel, sagedamini elamute ja muude hoonete ümbruses, põllul vilja hulgas, teede ääres, varemetel jne.

Vars on enamasti üksikult, püstine, lihtne või ka oksine, paljas või alumises osas karvastunud. Alumised lehed sagedamini kodarikuna, piklikud, kitsad, leherootsuks agenevad, jahumatud, terveservalised või hõlmised, sulglõhised, jagused, üldse väga mitmekujulised; varrelehed samasugused, kui enamasti rootsutud; kõik lehed kattunud kas liht- või tähtkarvadega. Kroonlehti 4, valged, kuni 3mm pikad, äraspidimunajad, lühikese pinnukesega; tupplehed munajad, valge nahkja servaga; õied pikaraolised, hõreda kobarana.

Vili - kolmnurkne äraspidisüdajas kõdrake. Seemned rohkearvulised, helepruunid, siledad.

Õitseb aprillist oktoobrini, vahel isegi hiljem, kui on sooje ilmu. Esineb Eesti NSV-s kõikjal.

Hiirekõrva korjatakse õitsemise ajal kogu suve kestel, kuid silmas pidades, et ürdis ei oleks palju küpseid vilju ega jahukastest nakatatud lehti. Taim tõmmatakse maast juurtega välja; juured lõigatakse ära, ülemised osad puhastatakse mullast ja kuivatatakse varjulises kohas hea tuuletõmbuse juures õhukese kihina. Pärast kuivamist eraldatakse riknenud või jahukastesed osad. Lõhn nõrk, maitse mõrkjas. Säilib tarvitamiskõlblikuna kuni 3 aastat.

Ravim

Ravimina kasutatakse taime maapealset osa, ürti - herba Bursae pastoris.

Droog peab säilitama peaaegu värske taime värvuse; niiskust võib sisaldada mitte üle 13%, ekstraktiivaineid 16%, kõrvalisi orgaanilisi ja mineraalaineid minimaalselt, kuid tuha üldjääk võib olla kuni 10%.

Droog sisaldab K-vitamiini, koliini ja atsetüülkoliini ning rohkesti kaaliumi (tuhas 40% K2O), mis tõenäoliselt toimivad verejooksu sulgevalt. Peale nende leidub droogis ramnoglükosiidi hüssopiini, parkaineid, orgaanilisi happeid, C-vitamiini.

Toimed

Hiirekõrva ürti kasutatakse leotisena või vedelekstraktina emakaverejooksude puhul tungaltera ekstrakti asendajana. Sünnitusabis tugevdab emakalihaste kokkutõmmet. Vähendab arteriaalset vererõhku, ahendab perifeerseid veresooni. Tarvitatakse ka nina- ja kopsuverejooksude korral ning vereringe- ja ainevahetushäirete raviks.

Annused:

vedelekstraktina - 20 kuni 25 tilka korraga

teena - 10 grammi kuiva droogi klaasitäie keeva vee kohta; sellest võtta supilusikatäis kuni 3 korda päevas.
