🍂Teaser: Myth—Chapter Three🍂
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I didn't remember making it this far. My head had been such a mess--something about the fog that had been brought down on it feeling sticky. Like it had been forced. How could I have driven that far without remembering it? The last clear memory I had before the spin out that I was almost certain now had happened was the bus stop at the corner of the PCH and Temescal Canyon. The bus stop closest to the bluffs by the Palisades.
Another light flickered on as we drove up the short path to dad's--around another bend and over a short bridge haloed by small stringed bulb lights that hung in a zigzag above the bridge. Waiting for us on the other side was home. A two-floor three bedroom home with dark brown shingles and deep blue wood panels that dad had built when him and mom purchased the land months after getting married. They both worked in medicine despite being the children of hippies. Dad was in accounting and mom as pediatric surgeon. That was why I wanted to go into medicine. To be like them. I wanted to be like her because I missed her.
The rosary was moms. She used to fidget with it whenever she was thinking on something that she wasn't sure how to tackle.
Saint Jude, the patron saint of lost causes, hopeless cases, desperate situations, and hospitals.
Dad had gifted me the rosary two years ago when I became a surgical intern.
She'd be so proud of you, kiddo.
I hadn’t killed my patient. They were a lost cause from the beginning.

Do you have hikes you recommend for those visiting California? Xxx
I feel like I've answered something like this before? Not that I expect you to scroll aimlessly for something that may or may not be there, I'm just feeling some deja vu right now.
Anyway. California is a pretty vague location to recommend hikes in, so I'll hope you meant Southern California and stick with that. I will say my all-time favorite hike is Half Dome, but that's in Yosemite and you need a permit, so probably not too helpful.
In LA... my favorite longer hike is the Bridge to Nowhere. It's in the mountains east of the city. It's 10ish miles round trip with lots of river crossings and some areas to swim. If you go on a Saturday, you can watch people bungee jump. Watch out for snakes and be aware there's no cell service out there. I really caution doing this one if it's over like 90 degrees in the middle of the day. If you want something shorter but still with swimmable water, look at Switzer Falls, Eaton Canyon, or Escondido Falls.
Malibu Creek State Park is full of trails of various lengths and pretty views, as are the Hollywood Hills. Franklin Canyon, Laurel Canyon, Coldwater Canyon, Runyon Canyon etc.
In Orange County, there are lots of coastal trails. I like Crystal Cove State Park and the Aliso Creek Trail in Laguna Niguel. Whiting Ranch has some cool sandstone structures. If you want to go into the canyons, I recommend Temescal Canyon, Black Star, or Holy Jim.
OK Honestly I don't go to San Diego often, but I know there's Potato Chip Rock in Poway and Torrey Pines on the coast. Sorry 😂
If you want to go to the Inland Valleys, Murray Canyon or Ladder Canyon are cool. Just keep in mind it gets HOT out there.
Other miscellaneous spots that come to mind are mountain peaks. I don't climb them, but I know people do. Mt. Wilson, Cucamonga, Baldy, San Jacinto, etc. There is also a cool hot spring spot in the mountains east of LA and Orange County called Deep Creek Hot Springs. Just be aware it's along the PCT, so lots of people hike through there. Nudity is allowed and practiced by some. Also it's warm, fresh water so I would recommend never putting your head under, Naegleria Fowleri and all.

Matilija poppy - Romneya coulteri by Arlene Schag Via Flickr: Native Matilija poppy (Romneya coulteri) in Southern California. This specimen was found growing within one mile of the Pacific ocean, the light hit it just right. The plant may grow up to 8 feet tall and very wide, definitely an outstanding show when in bloom. Romneya coulteri is endemic to California and Baja California in Mexico. Thrives in full sun and well drained soil. Plant can vigorously sprout from creeping rootstock. Matilija poppy (ma-TIL-i-ha or ma-til-EE-ha) is named after Chief Matilija of the Chumash Native American Indian Tribe. In the stalk, there is a clear to yellowish liquid substance that the Cahuilla used to drink. The plant is used medicinally for skin and gum problems and stomach upset. The Chumash people believed the petals of the flower are like the soul of a maiden, who died of a broken heart. Their Chumash gods transformed her into the pure white petal. This plant grows from the Sespe Creek Drainage in Ventura county south to Temescal canyon and into Baja California. This poppy shares its name with Matilija Canyon north of the town of Ojai, where the beautiful plants are said to protect the grave of the daughter of the Matilija Indian tribe's chief.

if you're in LA and want to do something more chill/less touristy i recommend walking around highland park or los feliz, or going a bit out of the city to do a temescal canyon hike! if you are still looking for things to do lol 3 days is very little time to spend here. if you wanna see celebrities tbh your best bet is the sunday morning melrose place farmers market (ik shawn mendes has a house in that area of weho bc my friends saw him chillin on his front porch so. hot tip) or one of the west LA erewhons (not the rodeo drive one though). if you're in the melrose/sunset area i def recommend this cute bookstore called book soup, and right next to it is this sick antique bookstore called mystery pier books where you can see like. signed first editions of books and movie scripts. everything costs literally $20k but it's cool to see for sure. enjoy your time here!!!!!!
I’m staying in west hollywood, literally a 4 minutes walk from farmers market! But… Too late, I fear lol next time I’ll ask here first. It’s just hard to move around without a car, we can’t pay like 100$ +++ for uber every day 😵‍💫 the bus seemed like a fair compromise
I accept suggestions for things to do in San Francisco, though!

Traffic home has been hell lately with estimates of up to 2.5 hours. So instead, I choose to kill time.
