Peach Kohakutou by DamSoCafe.
Hi! As of today this is now also a blog about kohakutou, or crystal candy! This is a food both Erin and I can eat since it's gluten-free, which is most excellent. We love candy. Sometimes we say to each other that we'd like to eat particularly delicious-looking slime, so this feels like the natural space to provide kohakutou reviews.
My friend Ari said that the first piece of crystal candy I ever bought, shown above, looked like a fancy soap. They were extremely right. I loved the use of gold leaf and admired the delicate layers, carefully packaged and intact.
Happily, it did not taste like a fancy soap. It tasted like a rock candy on the outside and the most delightful blend between a gummy and gelatin on the inside. The flavor was a mild, juicy, and very natural tasting peach. I was so excited about this candy that I ate it way more quickly than I expected to: over the span of two days rather than a week. I had intended to try and save it like my childhood chocolate Easter bunnies. I forgot I always used to eat those pretty quickly too.
Would recommend energetically. I messaged the creator to tell her it was the best crystal candy I'd ever had. Technically true and an accurate measure of my joy.

Charms MiniPops review
birthday cake: not it tbh. i’m not a fan of vanilla or sweet creamy flavors like that in a lollipop personally. compared to the same flavor of dum-dum, this one leans more into the frosting than the cake, and it’s much stronger. 2/10.
apple pie: slaps so hard like what???? it’s a sour appley flavor with the slightest hint of cinnamon. not nearly as creamy flavored as bday cake. it kind of hurts my mouth but the flavor is awesome loses points for being slightly overwhelming. 8/10
limeade: pretty much what i was expecting! a classic lime flavor with no pastry or cream taste, can’t go wrong. not too sour but not too sweet. 10/10
orange crème: way less overwhelming than i expected, heavier on the orange than the crème, and pretty mild comparatively to the other flavors. 9/10, loses one point because it’s just kind of boring
root beer float: pretty standard root beer flavor, tastes more like (how i remember) a root beer barrel thingy than the root beer dumdum. i want to say that the mini pop is sweeter or perhaps less complex of a flavor than the dumdum. the dumdum tastes more like root beer proper, which makes sense because the mini pop is indeed root beer float. that said, i’m not a fan of either of them. 3/10 would prefer drinking some root beer.
overall, i think these are fine but i prefer the blow pops and their more classic candy flavors. i’m personally not the biggest fan of the pastry type flavors but the fruitier ones are pretty good!

Candy Review, with a friend!
Koalas March
Tumblr media
This is a Bitter Chocolate Cream Filled cookie. I most closely compare them to Krave, except the chocolate is a little better. My friend indicated the texture resembles that of Goldfish, if not a little more powdery. A chocolate graham cracker.
Each piece has a cute little Koala on it! This however can make the shape a little tough to fit in your mouth for one bite.
Tumblr media
Flavor wise, its chocolate. Its good, but could've been darker! However its flavor still suffices as dark chocolate.
Overall, I would not snack on it, but I dont hate it! My friend liked it quite a bit. Its not their favorite cookie, but they would buy it again!
Result: Neutral-Positive

Gummy: Tootsie Lemonade Dots Type: just candy Overall Rating: 7/10 Taste: 7/10 Texture: 8/10 Effectiveness: n/a Thoughts: I love regular Dots and citrus is one of my favorite flavors. These were kinda disappointing. The flavors are all very similar. I think the actual candies are the reverse of what's shown on the box, yellow with a swirl of color at the bottom. Overall, these were fine, but nothing I'd recommend. Classic Dots are better. They get a 7/10 only because I like Dots and lemon.

Regret to inform you all that the peach flavored peelerz candies are not that good and the banana and mango ones are still the best. The 4d peach gummies from the same company are wayyyyy tastier imo also the Walgreens knockoff ones are more expensive and not as tasty but the texture is nice. The outside is like dry though like dusted in sugar idk how i feel about it. They're easier to peel. I'm so sad the peach ones suck they've been so hard to find and I got 2 of them. The more I eat them the worse they taste aughhhh

Melon Kohakutou by DamSoCafe.
This is a melon crystal candy from the shop I previously ordered a peach flower from. I remain absolutely blown away by the care taken with every step of this shop's process, down to the smallest details. The natural vegetable powders used to tint DamSo's sweets give such delicate coloring to the candy. The melon flavor is refreshing and very summery. A total sensory joy all around, with crisp crunchy layers. Small cloud-shaped samples of kohakutou and apple hard candies accompanied my purchase, making it extra lovely.

Astro Pop Review
Astro Pops were created in 1963 during the Cold War. Two rocket scientists left their jobs at Rocketdyne to start the business. Astro Pops were designed after three stage rockets, with the three flavors being pineapple passion fruit and cherry. The rocket scientists custom built their own machinery to produce the candy.
In 1987 the popular candy company Spangler Candy bought the brand, and continued to expand the variety of flavors until 2004 when they were discontinued.
I'm 2010, long time Astro Pop fan Ellia Kassof bought the rights to the candy and his company Leaf Brands currently produces the candy.
Design- 6/10
The pointed shape and bright colors are incredibly fun, but my issue is with the packaging. The plastic wrapped, since it's used as the mold for the candy, is difficult to peel off. The stick isn't straight and is very short, making it difficult to hold. On the bottom of the candy is a layer of paraffin wax, that you probably shouldn't eat.
Flavor- 6/10
The flavors are supposed to be pineapple passion fruit and cherry, but none of the flavors are distinct even from each other. However is still has a sweet and appealing flavor!

#CharlestonChew #MiniCharlestonChewVanillaCandies #CandyReview
I tried the Mini Charleston Chew Vanilla Candies and these were pretty good.
This candy was crunchy on the outside while having a light chocolate taste and the inside had a light vanilla chew nougat of taffy like texture to it. This does stick to my teeth a little but it's not like eating a caramel sticking to my teeth bad. These were sweet but not overly sweet to me. And reminds me of eating a drumstick ice cream minus the coldness and peanuts for texture.
I wanted to know if these are still good. These were still good but got either crunched or melted. And this is my first time eating these and I would love to try the other flavors if I can find them.
Got at a BP gas station.

Candy Review
Jolly Rancher Gummies SOUR
Tumblr media
I really liked Jolly Rancher Gummies, and I really like sour candy! But how are they together?
... BAD.
First of all, the texture is ruined. The smooth coating is replaced with the rough granules. Somethines these are alright, but this candy makes you want to suck on them, and it will shred the roof of your mouth.
This version opts to replace the Grape flavor with the Lemon flavor, keeping all the other flavors of Cherry, Watermelon, Green Apple, and Blue Raspberry. I think that makes sense (except that sour grapes exist), as lemons are the figurehead of sour candy.
Except the lemon pieces are suprisingly NOT sour. In fact, none of the pieces really are! Theyre very mild and sweet, having all the sour-hurt without any of the sour-zing. I would like to see a lemon piece show up in non-sour packs, as it does have potential for being a good flavor.
But these flavors, in my opinion, are not that good. I dont know what they changed from the non-sour variants, but the sourness almost ruins what they have.
Overall, this product is shockingly different from its predecessor, and not in a good way.
Result: Negative.

Just putting this out there: I don't reccomend the blueberry muffin kitkat if you have a sugar sensitivity as I tried it yesterday and deeply regretted it.😅
Minus the sensitivity, it's a sold 7/10. Good flavor but in the middle of eating it, it felt like I got punched in the face with a huge sack of sugar.
