I also want to share this little old lady with everyone. Her name is Ophelia, but everyone calls her Opie. Also known as: Ope-on-a-rope, Honey Bunches of Opes, Popels, Ope-a-dope, and probably countless other nicknames that I've forgotten. She's 15 years old and weighs about half a pound soaking wet and is still the size of a kitten. She is the chillest cat in the world, you can hold her any way and she's fine with it. I haven't seen her in over a decade but I got to hold her again today and she is still a sweet old lady.

Help needed:
I don't really know how to write serious posts without feeling like I'm coming off hokey but this is important so I'm just gonna have to deal with that discomfort.
My dad was diagnosed with stage 2 invasive bladder cancer. As of right now we don't have a total quote for his medical treatment, but we've already been struggling to afford the gas to get him to his appointments - let alone that it looks like some of his chemo medications won't be covered by Medicare.
We are hoping to get some help with the costs associated with this diagnosis, so my mom's organized a gofundme. Please help me get some eyes on this, and if you can spare any money I would be eternally grateful.

#hm. thinking about death and all that#bc the other day my mom texted me and my sisters to say shes added another cancer to her repertoire#shes had smooth muscle cancer for the past maybe 10 years but in the last year shes gotten a lot sicker#idk how long shes been stage 4 but shes got tumors in her liver. bladder. and maybe a kidney. and now shes also got like pre leukemia#she like deff got it from chemo treatment so now shes gotta try to go get a different treatment#but the type of mds she has is more likely to be treatment resistant and advance to acute myloid leukemia#so idk maybe itll go well. right now she still feels okay. but it just feels like the beginning of the end#so death has been on my mind the past few days#i feel mostly fine bc i think my medication is actually working. i just feel like im waiting for the other shoe to drop ya kno#and selfishly if she dies in the next 4 years itll b a real clusterfuck for my life#but i dunno her life has been super unfair and it sucks that she has to go thru all this#also when i was home last her hair looked insane bc she lost most of it but didnt shave what was left so she had new hair growing short#underneath and all i could think when i looked at her was: we r at the end of vanity. bc im a goblin#unrelated

At his annual check up a few weeks past, the vet thought there might be a mass on Wallace's bladder, or a thickening of his bladder wall. This wasn't good news, as bladder cancer is not very treatable in cats. So I took him to a radiologist for an ultrasound-- and it came back clear! Wallace is perfectly healthy, inside and out!

Also also, I'm worried about one of my friends. The last time I heard from her she caught covid and was hospitalized (she's severly chronically ill) and my last message didn't get through to her which means her phone is either turned off or died. It's been two days. Usually she replies within 10min so this is a very bad sign, I think.

the vet today really tried to talk me into paying $600 for the same service they provided for my mom and her dog a few months ago for under $100
#they told me the urine sample i got from my dog at home for a uti test wasn't sterile enough#but it was not an issue in the slightest when my mom did it#THEY told me to get the sample and then i got there and they were like#'um actually 🤓 we'd prefer if you let us use an ultrasound to find her bladder and extract the sample with a needle ourselves'#'we only have to use anesthesia if she struggles too much' kay well she will struggle bc she hates being put on her back#and you can't give her anesthesia cause she's an old dog with cancer#and also im not giving you 600 fucking dollars when you did this exact same test for my mom a few months ago#using a sample she brought from home#what the fuck?#text post#and the more i denied it the more it was like 'well....'#'well we're really just looking for the presence of red and white blood cells alongside bacteria so it should be fine i guess'#'well we'd really want to do that test to find out the specific bacteria but since this isn't a recurring problem it should be fine'#'well if it comes back after she's done with the antibiotics then we'll know it's more complex but we don't have any reason to think that rn#THEN WHY DO YOU WANT ME TO PAY $600#AND WHY DIDN'T YOU PULL THIS SHIT WITH MY MOM?!#is it cause im younger? you think you can convince me bc im young and niave?#my dog is 12 years old and 3 years into a terminal cancer diagnosis#i just need to know if this is a symptom of her body finally shutting down of if she just needs antibiotics

i'm getting my cervix poked today and not in the fun way. nevertheless it must be done, and i highly recommend cervical screenings to anybody that procedure applies to. early detection is so so important when it comes to cancer, my mum would still be alive if they found it in stage one, so i implore you not to ignore your body
#the standard default is once every 5 years and i say Fuck That and im getting it done every year from now on#i had one last year and i was fine. so fingers crossed#but yeah with cervical cancer its gotta be found as soon as possible#my mum was in stage four by the time they found it#it had already imbedded itself in several of her internal organs (making the bladder and uterus and bowel attached)#and therefore was impossible to remove#if it was caught in stage one? they coulda just cut out her cervix and womb. she didn't need 'em anymore#and she'd be alive right now#so. just. i really need to stress early detection to people#i need less people to suffer like my mum did. she was eaten from the inside#the cancer spread around her entire torso. it was a vicious hateful all consuming thing#i know applying moral value to a disease makes no sense. but i understand it now... it felt like... evil#so please. PLEASE. i am literally begging you. to get checked out every year if you can#the type of cancer my mum had couldn't be detected in blood tests so thats not good enough#also also if you're bleeding around the clock or during non-period times? for SURE get tested#because those are symptoms of cervical cancer :(#so is pink blood. thats a big uh oh. also pain deep inside during vaginal sex? that can be a sign#just. just watch out okay? fuck

Just an update on my mom: her biopsy came back and she does NOT have bladder cancer! Genuinely, thank you to my friends who've sent her well wishes and have kept us in their thoughts. It means so much to have had people in our corner given how bad this year has been for us, especially when its come to family.
#she did have tumor like growths but they were benign luckily#she still needs to be seen because of in going bladder issues but theyve ruled out the problem being cancer#this unfortunate scare really put a nail in the coffin of my mom ever wanting a relationship with her family#they were so predictably manipulative of the situation and simultaneously so uncaring#I hate that my mom had to hurt like that again but i hope if helps her let go

Good evening everyone. I am quite drunk
#My grandma came over for dinner this evening. I'm taking care of the family dog.#My grandma has early stage dementia and can't remember that I'm her grandson and not her granddaughter.#My dog is dying. We've had her since I was 8 and I'm 22 now. She's got something wrong with her bladder and the vet thinks it's cancer.#And I am alone in the house now with that under my skin.
