i think sometimes abt how there was a stretch of about a week when we first moved into a new house back in canada where we had a new computer but no internet, so as an unfathomably bored child i spent hours upon hours using Microsoft Publisher to make fake websites with the default templates and stock images. at first i think i tried making "personal" websites like the ones i saw on webrings back in the day but i quickly clued into the fact that Publisher was optimized to make corporate/brand websites with official logos and such, which led me to create a fictional megacorporation that spanned every basic template in the software; the Lotus corp (thus named bc the only decent stock image i had on the computer to create the logo was the default water lilies background image windows xp came with) sold everything from office pens to chairs to coffee cups for which i wrote little ad blurbs ("this cup is scientifically designed to keep your beverages warm for your entire coffee break!") as if they were actual products and not extremely bland stock photos that looked like this

the Lotus corp also had a restaurant chain, for the sole purpose of letting me use the menu template; their specialty was samosas bc the only stock image in the program was a samosa (or what i thought was a samosa. it might not have been. i was 8 and had never had indian food before.) there was also, probably, a company newsletter, that i filled with complete bullshit bc i was only passingly familiar with what a newsletter was let alone a corporate one
there isn't much of a point to this post other than i feel like this would be the kind of hobby a young roy might have gotten into and im glad this didn't prime me for a lifetime job in marketing or some such

This video was a quick summary and a very good In A Nutshell; I especially liked how the expert--Leah Groppo--states how 12 and under should NOT be consuming caffeine as it's dangerous for them, which is exactly the age I teach. This article gives out a graphic that shows that Prime energy has the same caffeine levels as Monster energy (yikes!) But, there's a distinction to be made. Prime Energy is NOT Prime Hydration, AKA the drink MOST popular with kids 12 and under. What's started this witch hunt against Prime is the parents issue with not being able to distinguish the two (despite Prime Energy coming in a CAN and Prime Hydration coming in a BOTTLE). For my school, Prime Hydration is the most popular drink, and for the middle school/high school students I've seen them around with the cans (I don't teach middle/high school though, so...). As an unbiased news source I genuinely don't think the concerns are necessarily KSI or Logan's fault, they sell two different products that market themselves differently. Quote from this article--"There is a disclaimer on the back of the energy drink, in a small font size under the list of ingredients, that states the beverage is “not recommended for children under 18 years of age.” Dr. Joe Aracri, chair of pediatrics at Allegheny Health Network, said that’s not enough of a deterrent." While I do agree the warnings could be clearer, I also think it's still on the costumer to make the clear distinction between ENERGY DRINK and HYDRATION DRINK which are clearly labeled on the front of the can/bottle. This news article talks about that "lack" of distinction. It's frustrating to see these articles talk about "lack" of distinction between the two drinks, and then go and use Prime HYDRATIONS image as the front runner for their article.

Does the claimed lack of distinction in marketing cause parents to accidently buy Prime ENERGY? I can't source that claim, but I would like to think parents would see the words ENERGY DRINK and think twice before picking that one. Do these article click baiting and using the wrong image also play into misinformation? Absolutely. I learned about this because my coworker pointed it out and assumed the articles meant Prime HYDRATION--not Prime energy until we looked into it.

In July of this year, the Premier League team from London, Arsenal Football Club, also declared a collaborative marketing partnership with the company.

Despite the Prime Hydration Sports Drink’s popularity, experts claim it doesn’t have any advantages over conventional food and water. Anisha Mahajan, a registered dietitian and Ph.D. candidate at the University of Guelph, warns that the beverage even runs the risk of replacing meals that actually provide nutritional value when consumed in amounts greater than moderate.
In a telephone interview with CTVNews Canada on Monday, Mahajan said, “If we were consuming a lot of things with artificial sweeteners, there may be a risk that we’re loading up on those and are skipping the healthy, nutritious meals.”
