Hey Ari! That last chapter of LTYE has me curious if you ever considered giving Solana a 'normal' childhood or background story? It's just all so sad, and I wonder how different her life could have been if she wasn't born to such a evil man.

this is an interesting question.

warning: long ass post literally no one asked for, but i don't know how to stfu clearly.

i actually went through a couple of different scenarios and even plots for this story. i knew i wanted to tackle abuse, sexual trauma, and/or mental health, so most touched on some aspect of one or more. a couple that, obviously, didn't make the 'cut', so to speak, are as follows:

solana being a nurse who is secretly in a relationship and married to roman, but they live separately and only those closest to him even know he's with her/married for safety reasons. her relationship to and with him eventually gets 'exposed' i.e. is exposed by someone and she's attacked by his enemies and miscarries as a result (she hadn't had a chance to tell him about the pregnancy). thus a lot of the story would focus on their healing from that.

roman meets solana who works as a waitress at a restaurant and is almost instantly intrigued by her because she randomly comes up to him and serves him pie because he looks like he's having a 'bad day.' (she's more bubbly and not as nervous in this iteration) he's not used to this kind of friendly behavior. his intrigue results in him randomly coming to see her and a relationship/connection forming. there were two options here where she has a baby from an abusive ex she escaped where roman would develop a bond with her and the child or where xavier (i know) is still her dad and arranges a marriage between her and someone who is an equal pos which roman is not here for obviously. some other things lol

there was also a similar one to the above where solana was forced into an arranged marriage with seth's psycho (no offense seth girlies) ass, they have a baby together, but he's abusive. he's deep in the hole in the bloodline and one night roman and the gang break into his house, demanding to be repaid. well, obviously, his gambling ass ain't got it, so roman, unaware of just how bad shit is or that seth really don't gaf about her and the baby, takes solana and the baby as 'collateral' that seth can 'get back' when roman gets his money. welp, feelings grow and obviously roman is like 'i'm never sending you back there' and yeah.

and one of the last was solana taking care of her two younger sisters, the youngest being a half sister. still piece of shit xavier as the father who was abusive and had the mom killed (a secret as well) and solana stays around because one sister is only like 15, and the other is lik 5. she refuses to leave her sisters, and xavier won't let solana take them. well, xavier stays true to his piece of shit nature and plans to sell off the 15 y/o with some illegal arranged marriage and enter the human trafficking world which terrifies solana, so she risks her life and approaches roman to ask him for help and/or a loan smuggling her sisters out of the country and into mexico to escape their dad. she'll then return and work for him, indebting herself to the bloodline. roman is like fuck that and just moves solana and her sisters into his house until she can figure out a better plan or whatever. and obviously, feelingssssss.

so.....yeah. 😩 my creative process is....a lot when it comes to story creation, clearly 😭😭😭😭

Considering they had opted for the living room, they were just sitting around the coffee table when the food arrived, and dug into the boxes of Chinese, all of them passing the boxes back and forth in the end, trying a bit of each other's dishes, well, the vegan ones Chris could try anyway, Talia had chosen one herself, she was intrigued. He hadn’t talked her into it by any means, but some of the dishes sounded just as good as the meat options, when Ricky heard that he’d chuckled, only for Talia to roll her eyes and point out she didn’t think she could ever give up animal products entirely, sorry Chris. Now, they were talking about everything else under the sun, the week they had.. What they’d been doing.. Talia even was telling them about what Jordan and Kyle had been getting up to back home. Chris, he’d heard some of what she was saying as she was talking about her friends, about her week, from their afternoons having coffee with him, hearing about her exploring the town.. But Ricky hadn’t. It was good to see them talking, and getting to know each other.

They were all avoiding the elephant in the room.. Two elephants really if Chris was honest, Talia’s meltdown, and what was happening with Ricky’s video. Chris didn’t know if Talia had seen the video, he didn’t know if she’d been online at all since yesterday, and if he was honest, after the harassment in the first place, he wouldn’t blame her at all if the answer was a resounding no.

Glancing at Ricky, the fact that she hadn’t mentioned it, that she seemed calm, made him feel more and more certain, that he was right, no, she hadn’t been online at all, all day.

He couldn’t think about that now, not with her meltdown that morning. How she felt was entirely more important.

The real question was, which problem, was she willing to tackle first? The one with the entire world on her doorstep, or the personal one that was so heavy that had been on her doorstep, since she was eighteen years old.

Neither were excellent options. Sure the first one, they could be hopeful about, but Chris knew better, having dealt with the world of fandom, and seen the frenzy it could be whipped into, it could get nasty in a heartbeat, especially when soulmates were involved.

Chris was twirling his noodles around his fork, not only was it a fun way to eat them at home when you didn’t have to worry about being polite and neat, but he didn’t have the mental capacity tonight to focus on chopsticks, to poke at his noodles, so a fork it was. He glanced over as Talia put her dinner box, still half full, down on the table, rubbing her hands along her thighs, over her shorts,

“So, I suppose I should tell you about what this morning was about-”

“Jellybean you don’t-”

Talia pretty much cut him off with an audible sigh when she just looked at Chris as he started trying to comfort her and tell her she didn’t need to explain yet again, she knew it was coming, but she didn’t actually say anything. Instead, she smiled slightly, knowingly, as she glanced at Rick, and then seeing the guitarist blink at her like he’d been caught in the spotlight, swallowing his bite of food,

“What?”

“You told me off repeatedly this morning for making excuses for people. He might not be making an excuse, but he keeps telling me I don’t need to talk about my problems when I obviously have problems.. Hello..”

“Yeah, well, I happen to agree with Chris on this one. As much as I want to know whats wrong, talking about shit before you're ready, isn’t good. I think you know that already. Or were you not the one that taught Ava how to handle panic attacks?”

Talia’s breath caught in surprise when she heard that, just staring at Ricky for a moment as she tried to contemplate him even knowing that, glancing from him to Chris who shrugged and back to Rick,

“How did, how did you know about that?”

She watched as he frowned a little no idea what was going through his head, she had taught Ava about panic attacks sure, after her parents had died, she’d had something a bit like them, never diagnosed, but she had helped her learn how to calm herself down when she felt herself on the verge of a panic spiral so she could ground herself.

“Ava didn’t tell you?”

Talia shook her head slightly, Ava had talked to him about her panic attacks? She didn’t know that.. Not that she expected her to hide anything from the boys, but it was curious as to why it might have come up..

“I ah, while we were on tour, there was a moment I had an attack, not sure that it was panic, but it was something-”

“Rick-”

Talia reached for Chris’ hand without thinking when he went to comfort his friend, and Rick just shook his head,

“It’s alright Chris, there was nothing you could have done, nothing anyone could have done, I just, the guys were talking about soulmates, and kept talking about how we all had soulmates, and it kept feeling like constant pressure, the whole time we were on tour.”

“Yea, you know, none of us meant to make you feel like. I’m so sorry about that.”

Hearing Chris apologise, Talia’s heart clenched as she thought about how Ricky must have felt being stuck on that bus for two weeks, with no escape from the suffocating feeling of everything that had happening, no doubt thinking about it constantly, being reminded about it whether he liked it just seeing Ava, Vinny, every time soulmates were mentioned.

“Ricky I-”

“Seriously, Talia,”

Her eyes when wide looking over at Ricky, as he smiled softly, he didn’t snap, this time his tone actually sounded almost fond, and warm, and it surprised her,

“Are we really going to have this conversation again? No apologises for something that isn’t your fault, Sweetheart.”

Feeling Chris squeeze her hand gently, she looked over where he sat beside her, a warm smile on his face as he nodded ever so slightly towards her, only for her to look back towards Rick..

“Okay, so, sure, you both agree I need to stop apologising, I get it, but listen to this Richard Olson,”

“Oop, she full named you..”

“I’m in trouble.”

“I am allowed to feel bad that you were in that position because of the situation, I am allowed to feel horrible that you couldn’t get out of it knowing that Ava was stuck in her floofy soulmate bubble with Vinny.. And I’m allowed to be pissed.. At Grace for doing this to you.. Am I not?”

Watching his face, Talia had been sure he wanted to argue with her, as if he thought she blamed herself for the situation, and maybe she did, a little bit, if they hadn’t gone to the concert, he would have continued to live in ignorance, who knows when he would have discovered the truth. Vinny had known the truth, he had said as much.. He had been the one to really expose her, so Talia would like to think he would have exposed her before long anyway. It might have taken time, but it would have happened, and he’d have been alone

“Okay, yes, you are allowed all of those things, but my point still stands.”

Talia just smiled, shaking her head,

“I get it, but if you’re going to keep calling me on it, I’m going to start kicking you.”

Ricky sitting back in his chair shrugged and went back to eating another egg roll,

“I’ll invest in shin guards.”

Talia groaned with an eye roll when Chris just laughed.

Chris watched the two of them it felt so, refreshing, that they actually seemed to getting along now, enough that he was teasing her, even if she was groaning in frustration over his teasing.. But he saw that small smile on her lips and threw her head back when she did. He sighed, swallowing a little, letting her hand go so he could have some more of his noodle and twisted some more onto his fork and shove them into his mouth. It was nice when he could get vegan dishes alongside others at the same restaurants and didn’t have to go far out of his way. Before the band got bigger, it used to be harder, but, not to mention veganism, had grown more over time for various reasons.

Seeing the two of them together, he felt guilty, but there was a part of him that almost felt.. A little jealous. It was stupid, he knew, he didn’t feel this way with Justin and Laura, or Vinny and Ava, but seeing Ricky laugh with Talia now, it made him ache.. It was a twisted torment, wanting something he knew he couldn’t have.. Something that he was never going to have. No, no that wasn’t quite true either, when he looked at the pair of them, he yearned for, for.. God.. his why was his shoulder aching so much lately?

“Shit, Talia?”

Ricky gasped slightly, had just been laughing again, so he’d joked about getting a shin guard, and she’d made a remark about needing a different kind of guard instead. That's when they’d both started laughing, only for the next thing he knew, a surge to flare through his soulmate tattoo. A confused sound escaped him, as he dropped his now empty Chinese box on the table,

“Okay, so the joke was not that annoying, damn, why the upset Sweet?”

A soft wounded sound came from her as he glanced across the way, and he wondered what was wrong, noticing how she was rubbing her neck too, he couldn’t help but frown, what, what was wrong. Those eyes, those traitorously gorgeous eyes, traitorously so because there were moments he did think back to the party to watching her in the mirror just to see her eyes watching him.. And guilty he felt thinking about it, not to mention how tempted he felt thinking back on.. Not the time, Ricky, not the fucking time..

“I thought it was you?”

Her quiet voice brought him out of his mental scolding.. Wait, so, that little jolt to his tattoo wasn’t because she was annoyed at him, and he wasn’t annoyed at her..

“So now these things are just going to jolt us for no rhyme or reason? That makes no damn sense.”

At least before, he assumed that it was trying to send a message, trying to get them together.. Affecting him when he thought about her, when he was aroused by her, when she was aroused by.. Shit.. but this? This made no sense.. Rick saw Chris shifting next to Talia rubbing at his shoulder, frowning heavily like he was in pain,

“Are you alright, man?”

“Yeah, yeah, just, my shoulder’s been off the past few days.. I’m good, I’m good. So.. what’s going on, what was the joke?”

Ricky raised his eyebrow at that, glancing to Chris shoulder slightly, that, that was..

“Okay, no, no I really need to tell you guys about this, because if our tattoos are doing more than just being suped up on the soul bond, which was, admittedly, how I tried to think of it because I didn’t want to think of myself as going insane-”

“You weren’t going insane, I was going through it too.”

Talia rolled her eyes slightly at Rick interrupting her slightly, sure she knew that now, but she didn’t know that before, really wishing he wasn’t halfway across the room right now so she could slap his arm or something right now.. But, she had a feeling she knew exactly why he was over there. She knew from the moment he’d pulled away in the kitchen yesterday, just like she’d been itching to touch him the moment he walked in the door. The strangest part was.. It only eased when Chris had taken her hand, and right now, her fingers were twisted together in front of her, desperate to reach for him, for both of them.. What..

“I know that now Ricky, I didn’t know that then, and with what had happened..”

Swallowed,

“I told you how my dad tried to have me committed, right?”

While Rick nodded slightly, confirming he remembered, she expected Chris to be surprised, and when he reached for her hand, she realised Rick must have told him, glancing to Chris and seeing the look of understanding on his face,

“I’m sorry Talia, I told him this afternoon what you said to me yesterday, I suspected it might have to do with it, and I didn’t want you to be blindsided by Ava tonight. Our plan was actually to come to dinner to make sure she didn’t try to force you to talk about it if you didn’t want to yet.. Because she seemed hell-bent on it earlier.. So.. I told him, that way he’d know what I suspected and the stakes of what you could be dealing with.”

Talia’s eyes were tearing up as she looked at Ricky, how, for an asshole that had been doing nothing but thinking of himself..

“Oh shit, Chris, I can’t.. She, I’m making her cry..”

Ricky hated that he was on the other side of the room when Talia looked like she was about to start crying, he’d fucking upset her all over again. What the hell was wrong with him,

“Chris, man, can you..”

Seeing him already moving closer to her, his arms wrapped around her tiny frame and Ricky felt horrible that he fucked up, yet again as he watched the tears spill down her cheeks when she leaned into Chris as he leaned in and whispered to her. She nodded quickly, and he wished he could hear.. Holding on to the arms of the chair in the single-seater sofa he was in to stop himself from moving, his grip so tight his fingertips were turning white.. He didn’t want to make this worse for her. Fuck. When she leaned into Chris, pressing her face into his chest, Ricky just couldn’t stand it anymore. Practically vaulting himself from his chair,

“Rick, wa-”

However, Chris’ warning fell on deaf ears when he was already there, his hand running up her back,

“Sweetheart, I’m so sorry, I wasn’t thinking, I shouldn’t have sa-”

Before he could even finish Talia had twisted between both of their arms to almost throw herself around him, her arms wrapping around his shoulder, her face nestled in the side of his neck, with muffled words he could barely hear… but he heard them, and he looked over to Chris with wide eyes when he realised that he’d read this entire situation wrong.. The smile slowly spread across the other man’s face.

“Thank-You.”

Not Gong yoo and LDW casually being each others ideal types lmao! 🤣 I peep 👀 I always see LDW being so endearing to him though, like man/bro-crush vibes? I am not saying he's on the DL, I'm not the delusional type. But he looks like the type that's super intelligent and because of that finds it hard to look up to people or even see them as someone he can see as an equal or respect. I know he's the oldest, so he has eldest sibling vibes but I think he grew up quicker than he should've lol, it looks like gong yoo soothes him or is that big bro he's always wanted. Which is why in your break up reading Suzy was out off by him seemingly being more heart-centred than he looked and you said it changed the way he approaches relationships etc, I wouldn't be surprised he was attracted to her and opened up and she was put off? She's probably the type that likes getting taken care of and not the other way around, so she was like you're doing too "much". His change because "oh I'm too much, for future reference I will not get too deep or show a woman my heart". I wouldn't be surprised if he's the type that struggles a lot but his "manliness" makes him look disgusting if he expresses it. Idk he looks like he needs people who see him clearly? A friendship reading between these two does sound interesting, I'll make it happen. Tbh, I never saw a scorpio/cancer dynamic where the Scorpio was the sweetheart (the chaser), and the cancer was more standoffish (or should I say the runner). I found their personality differences/similarities very intriguing.

I finally got to read the update!! Don't mind me rambling a bit about everything I loved about it...

I really enjoyed the beginning of this chapter.  Being playful with Basil in the van is super cute. It was interesting to see Reem and Basil not getting along a little bit, it makes me intrigued about if there will be any cracks in our little friend group's foundation that might start to show. And if so what that might mean when things start going bad.

Also, Anita is adorable!! It had me giggling when she called everyone attractive--I loved getting to tease her about it afterwards. I chose to room with her and the siblings--though the thought of Basil sleeping alone makes me nervous for the future...

Definitely Looking at Anita's comment about how your sanity starts slipping when you go without sleep. I'm SO eager to reach the horror. Though the slightly slower, cheerful beginning is so great. I love getting to know everyone and seeing them happy and bonding, knowing that there's horror on the horizon...

Javier talking about his mom marrying his dad straight up made me snort laugh. I work with kids and they truly do say the most out of pocket things. It's very true to life. And ooooh, Basil and Gabriel just...staring at the woods got me so hyped. Reading that scene gave me a proper thrill, that little 'heart-pounding-faster' feeling that makes me love horror so so much.

Hell yes at getting to tell the kids a scary story!! I remember being a kid and hearing classics like Don't Turn on the Light and being scared out of my socks. It's sooo fun to be able to play at passing that on to a whole new generation!! I'm 100% in to romance Basil, but this update makes me want to do a run where I romance Anita. She's so so cute. And the siblings both are great in their own ways... I'm sensing that I'll end up doing runs for each of the ROs, you've made such fun and sweet characters!

Aaah that ending!!!! Genuinely terrifying, and made me so anxious about the kids!! I KNOW my MC is going to be hard-pressed to keep them all safe. I can't wait to see what comes next!! I love how you write characters, they're all so likable and distinct!! This was such a good update, it makes me really eager for more.

Basil and Anita's on-the-road scenes in the van were my favorite to write!! And yes, there's certainly a bit of tension in the group. MCs with high sociability or perception will be able to pick up on this, also on George's fondness for a certain colleague--- but don't worry, no one's at each other's throats. Yet.

And yay, some Anita appreciation!! Cut her some slack, she's not used to being around hot people and between a possibly cute MC and the FUCKING MALAKS of all people... yeah. It's not easy for her.

Ok so you know that you can also sleep in the van with Basil if your relationship stat/his approval of you is strong enough? I hope that was clear from the dialogue options and you just chose the cabin despite of it, bc if not, I might have to rewrite the choice. Furthermore, while I can see why you'd be worried for him, I'd be more concerned for an MC who chooses to sleep alone ;) [yes, this is me hinting at a future horror scenario possibly unique to that route].

Ah yes, Javier, my son <3 lol. Nahhh I don't favor any of the campers. Though, if I had to pick which one I liked to write the most, it'd probably be him.

Now I feel bad haha. Ok but srsly, kids can be VERY outspoken, and Javier especially has noooo social filter. You might notice that some of the campers' traits specifically correspond to some of the ROs' characteristics... Looking at Gabriel and Basil here.

Both campfire stories are also really close to my own heart, so I jumped at the chance to include them. As for the ROs, I do hope you'll do a run for each of them! I'm trying quite hard to make it difficult to choose between them ;)

I love that the ending hit the way it was supposed to. If you want to know what's up next, I have one word for you: confusion. Lots of confusion.

See, I need to give this story a slow, slice-of-life start, bc purely from a narrative standpoint, it wouldn't make sense for the horror to come out guns blazing. That's why the MC will at first be the only one to experience the horrors and for the horrors to (seemingly) originate from one of the kids, bc if it was more dramatic and the threat was to come from an exterior source, everyone would just pack up and flee and then the story would be over. Hey anon, really glad the fairytale asks stuck with you because we've been having so much fun with them! Honestly I'd not had a chance to think of more until getting this but after having a little time there's a scenario I'm kind of loving which may or may not have spiraled from the og Cinderella concept so apologies in advance 😅

Cue Ravonna sending Mobius on a reconnaissance mission to get details on Odin being up to something which seems to differ from the usual flow of that timeline, the details are vague enough for him to wonder where she's going with this but they both know the chance for him to get close enough to Asgard is too tempting to pass up and there's an upcoming ball with enough invitations that one more shouldn't be a problem. So he tries his best to at least blend into the background long enough to slip away and search for info but the fact that he's pretty much the only person at the party not boisterously jumping through hoops for Odin's attention or favor draws Loki's attention him like a lightning rod, lol, which doesn't escape mutual notice and since the only other option would be Loki making a scene to draw attention to whoever this mysterious(ly hot) stranger is no one seems to know, Mobius can't help pointing out he's not exactly someone that would be sent in as a physical threat so maybe if he's allowed a few minutes to explain he could make it in Loki's best interest 👀👀

Loki's skeptical but intrigued, and it's not like he was enjoying the night beforehand anyway so he follows expecting some obvious lie of an excuse as to what Mobius is doing there but instead Mobius quite bluntly tells him he's there for dirt on Odin that could be mutually beneficial for them both.

This part he keeps to himself ofc, but by now he's figured out whatever's going on clearly has to do with/is centered around Loki's future and after so many years of researching Lokis he's secretly harbored a crush and honestly does want the best for them if possible so it's very easy to at least tell the truth about why he's trying to sneak around in the first place. Loki doesn't completely believe him, but he's infinitely more interesting than anyone in recent memory and Loki's desperate to learn about him so he haughtily declares Mobius no real threat, and will guide him through the palace personally to seek out this all important info, with the threat of imprisonment if the night ends empty handed.

Mobius cheerfully agrees with the knowledge he'll be long gone through a time door before things come to that, and the night is kind of playing out like a fantasy he didn't even realize he had so because he knows it won't last he lets himself be a little playful with Loki, praising his magic and asking questions he hadn't been able to answer from his files, like which flower first comes to mind when he looks out at the gardens?? Loki of course bristles at first but soon realizes how much comfort there is in the way Mobius speaks to and about him, and how his words bask brighter and warmer than any sun 🥺

However, because of this he can also tell Mobius knows far more about him than he previously let on, and can't figure out why he seems so delighted by all the qualities everyone else has been so bothered by his entire life so as they search through Odin's private study he starts needling for details to match, eventually getting nothing but things that completely baffle him like how Mobius obviously has horrible taste in food and that he seems wiser beyond his years than any Midguardian he's ever seen yet somehow seems to have nothing of personal value in his life except something called a jet ski?? And he's taken aback how, when pressed, Mobius isn't even upset about it but just a bit sadly resigned. They share a moment of bonding over their prior loneliness and start to grow even closer, leaning in just before a crash sounds from the hallway and the sounds of drunken guards calling for there whereabouts of Prince Loki echo, forcing them to break apart as Loki panics about how to explain Mobius' presence and bringing Mobius back to reality about how far he let the night spiral by indulging so it's all he can do but stumble out an apology for everything as Loki tries to find a way for them to sneak away before turning back just in time to see the gleam of a time door disappearing in the middle of the room 😔

Now the whole "glass slipper" element is a harder one since it's not like even if Mobius left behind something TVA related Loki would be able to trace it back to him so this is where I headcanon he dropped a folded magazine photo of a fav jet ski he liked to carry around as a reminder of why he works so hard, that he had taken out to show Loki was he was talking about earlier and Loki uses to trace back to Don, alerting the TVA due to the obvious branch it cases, and then you can only how everything Mobius knows implodes from there which would probably take me a year to detail but is very fun to picture and yes because I love him this would also result in Don meeting the Loki of his timeline because he deserves love too 😂😂

alright! so! I just finished my first playthrough of episode eight!! going to put my immediate thoughts in some bullet points here (putting under a read more for spoilers, since it is the latest ep after all):

many people were skeptical about the Nerissa reveal, but honestly I feel like she's become a good narrative device. and yeah, I don't agree with her most of the time, but in this episode she was finally vulnerable and opened up to Traveler and admitted to being stubborn and being in the wrong about some things. which was great, and exactly what I needed from her! I wanted her to be vulnerable, and to show that, and I enjoyed her much more in this chapter.

Zovack having a sister who died in the Orionite mines...now that was a reveal I was not expecting, and an intriguing one at that

I've said before that one of my main gripes with a6 is that kisses feel like they're softblocked behind the horny options, and that can make it seem like the people who aren't into horniness are being shafted sometimes. for example, you don't get a morning after scene with your love interest unless you have sex. and yeah, I get that it isn't really a morning after scene without the after sex part but like they couldn't just snuggle up in bed with you and stay the night and still be cute in the morning? the texts you get instead on Cal's route are sweet but like if you don't fuck you miss out on an entire scene, which makes it feel a bit like you're punished for not being horny lol. but oh well, that's what fanfic/headcanon is for

WE DID GET A NON HORNY KISS THOUGH FINALLY. after you get the Cal betrayal lore (which I will get into in a moment), on his route he gives you a soft kiss and I LOVED IT.

CAL LORE. WE GOT THE EX'S NAME Y'ALL. It's Selah! She was a singer on Goldis, working for Zovack the whole time. Cal fell for her, but she still couldn't get what she wanted out of him, so she moved on to his childhood best friend, Jasper. They framed Cal for the murder together. Jasper's betrayal hurt Calderon far more than Selah's did. Also, in this scene, we learn that Cal's moms know how to party kjhdslfj

okay so overall, my first impressions are mainly good!! the only things I straight up was like "um" about were the "flirty option" texts...like that was so embarrassing, i'm SORRY i think it's just my asexuality shining through but ough dhsflkj, and the fact that the cute scene at the beginning of the episode is softlocked behind the horny. other than that, I had a blast!!

Okay so I didn't see a comment talking about Eret class in the D&D thingy you have going on, and I feel very sad about it. Also, I came back from... wherever I was.

One of the things I told myself first thing coming back to Tumblr, was to check your blog, and I found you gave the Riders their class and I adore it.

Like sure, there's no barbarian, and Eret could in theory fill it up. But honestly, this is a breath of fresh air. Let the other Vikings be the barbarians, the new-gen wants to try something else.

If you go the rogue route, he is either a scout or an inquisitive rogue. Which I think work best for exploration and hunting without being a Hunter Ranger.

But you might also go with his great Charisma, and how he inspired his men through speech. Also, it's not his fault, but he seems like a player.

In which case a bard from the college of Valor is the next option. Those who inspire other with tales of heroes past or adventures from old. This also goes with him going "Eret, son of Eret". This makes me think his father was a great warrior, and he takes pride in it, so he inspires others by telling stories of his father who has long since passed away to the beyond.

... Or you could be boring and make him a Ranger Hunter, cause... Dragon hunter. I don't think it fits him though, personally speaking.

1- Favorite song lyrics?

They don't have a lot to pick from, huh? But from Undercover, it's probably:

The fine line between "Hate" and "OK" Shouldn't you look beyond your EGO, before it all ends?

The first line, to me, really encapsulates how black and white the judgement system in Milgram is, and thus how horrendously inefficient it is. There's very little we can actually do to convey nuance in our voting, it really is a choice of just "you're perfectly okay and have done nothing wrong" or "we hate you and think there is no way you could ever be Forgiven", with only the 50% voting line separating the extremes. Sure, we can try to communicate with the voices in their head, but that's highly unreliable and unpredictable, so in practice "hate or ok" are really our only options. And Es' by extension.

Then the other line, asking to look beyond our own experiences to understand people with lives extremely different from our own, and how we have to do it fast because we don't exactly get unlimited time to come to our conclusions.

Though of course, this isn't just about us. Es is the one singing to themself in a way, and seeing how these things are phrased, it really helps show that despite how Es always act in control and on top of things, they still have their doubts and worry about how their judgement can affect the prisoners.

There's also Hibana, and for Es (and in general) my favorite lyric there is:

Going by my personal interpretation of what the hell is going on in this cover, this line really ties together the meaning of Es wanting to make decisions with confidence, when it actually gives them extreme anxiety. Which, I do realize makes no sense when you look at the line by itself but I swear it works in the context of the wider interpretation.

2- Favorite MV moment/frame?

They have like three scenes what am I even supposed to say. Anyways it's probably this one.

It's definitely the most intriguing thing related to Es themselves in my opinion, only really challenged by the time they show up after all the smiles. The reason I'm not using that one is that it's difficult to tell whether or not it actually is Es even though contextually it's the only thing that makes sense.

Anyways about this spotlight scene. I like that Es isn't wearing all their uniform; they're missing the cape, the hat, the 'reciffO nosirP' (Prison Officer) and 'tse mudnatibud subinmo eD' ("Everything must be doubted" in Latin) band things... The point is to show that there is a person under all that, Es is not just the Warden. It's still a heavy part of their person, as they're still wearing most of the outfit, the gloves, and the keychain thing, but it's not all they are. Plus the spotlight and their expression, because again, as much as Es tries to confidently judge others, they themselves can get nervous when confronted, when there's a 'spotlight' placed on them.

In case it's not obvious, I love when the mask slips a bit and we can tell Es as a person is more than just an extension of the audience. Look! They have personal dislikes! And of course it's Kazui who gets to see a bit of the "real" Es surfacing, because who the hell else would it be?

There's way more of course, but I have to limit myself a bit.

6- Favorite relationships with another character in the prison?

Amane. Again, the siblings ever.

More seriously, it's not just that I love their interactions when they're fucking around, I also love all the parallels and the ideological clashes. The undying devotion to an extremely harmful system. The view of themselves as an extension of a group rather than as an individual ("we? what's we?"). The way they both hate being seen as children, forced to grow up too fast. The way they both try to convince themselves they're happy with their life and condition, to the point it's almost convincing, until you look closer and see the cracks. How Amane hates Es because of what they've done to her, because they're the same as her abusers in her eyes. How Es goes dead silent when Amane brings up their similarities, when usually they'd lash out at the mere idea of the Warden being like a prisoner, because they understand to an extent. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-

I also love Es' dynamics with most of the prisoners, but Amane is something else.

7- Favorite relationships with another character if they weren't in Milgram, the way you'd imagine or would like them to be?

Honestly, this one's kinda hard because so much of Es' character is directly linked to Milgram. Imagining them outside the Panopticon in general is sorta difficult.

I think they and Amane could still be besties, but other than that, maybe Yuno? I think she wouldn't feel the need to put up a front next to the "I hate everyone anyways" vibe Es gives off, so they'd be judgmental buddies! Just imagine them doing each other's makeup while shit-talking everyone they can think of. Maybe throw Muu in for extra shit and giggles.

12- What do you wish would be discussed more often about them in the fandom?

I mean, literally anything? Es isn't discussed very often, which I guess makes sense, but it's unfortunate. More specifically, I wish people discussed the more concrete things we know about their personality a bit more. There's plenty of posts speculating on what is going on with them; where they came from, whether or not they're related to the prisoners in some way, what is their connection with the eleventh cell, that kind of stuff. And that's all very fun, I love those posts! But I have never seen an Es character analysis the same way I've seen analyses for practically all other characters (<- also hasn't written a proper analysis of them beyond the Hibana cover post). Still, I do understand why people don't, there's a lot of interesting characters in Milgram!

2- Favorite MV moment/frame?

This is like asking me to pick a favorite child what do you mean. I love her MVs too much why would you do this to me.

Anyways here's my favorite child moment.

Look at her!!! She's going to fucking destroy her mother let's go girlie fucking kill!

I just love how happy she looks here. Plus the eyes, the eyes. This entire part of the MV is great, it just makes me happy to see Amane happy you know what I mean? Plus the whole rainbow and rain and umbrella symbolism, and the fiction bleeding into reality (the eyes!), it's all awesome. I love her so much, she should smile like this when she stabs Shidou in the stomach I think he'd understand.

5- Favorite voice drama line/moment?

I could be cheap and tell you it's the same as Es', but it's really not.

Also when she attacked Es with scissors. I think Milgram should have allowed it, it would have been funny if the Warden just fucking died before Trial 2 ended.

11- What are your favorite points about their story and the narrative surrounding them?

What aren't my favorite points of her narrative? Again asking me to pick a favorite child here.

If I had to pick one, probably the way the line between her cult's beliefs, Amane's interpretation of her cult's beliefs, and Amane's own desires blurs to a point it's really hard to figure out what she's actually thinking at any given time. Especially because of how Amane views all these things. Her cult is unquestionable but also she subconciously hates a lot of its aspects and twists its beliefs to justify her actions to herself. Her desires are sinful and animalistic (Animal cover and cat parallels go brrrrrr), but she still wants to follow them so so badly. Ugh, internal conflict my beloved.

And also I love how desperate she is to endure everything that's happened to her. Her unrelenting will to survive and go against the people who hurt her, the way she's still glad to have been born, the way she still tries so hard to be happy and make others around her happy. Holy shit this kid is the strongest (in terms of willpower) character in Milgram and no one can tell me otherwise, it's so unfair she has to be that way it makes me immensely sad augh-

And also I love how angry she gets occasionally. How spiteful and rage filled she can be. I will never get tired of seeing Amane in pure, unfiltered fury. Yes, girl, stab Es with scissors, kill your mom, stab Shidou, do it!

12- What do you wish would be discussed more often about them in the fandom?

I think Amane is discussed pretty well here on Tumblr, much as I've heard horror stories about what the Discourse looks like in other sites. But if there's one thing I wish more people brought up is how despite everything, Amane is motivated by the desire to make everyone happy. Positive Parade cover go brr.

Especially in things like the Fuuta situation. I feel like some people see it as just her trying to recruit for her cult or something, when really she's just trying to help him. Same with warning Mahiru against medicine to "save her soul" in a way. Healing the cat. Becoming the "perfect girl", the March Leader with the cloud ribbon, to make her abusers happy. Trying to make the best of the situation by attempting to turn Milgram into an ideal world. Trying to stay happy because that's the one thing she's worked towards her entire life.

In fact, I personally believe this is why Yuuri is depicted in Magic as maybe "kinder" than the others (might make a post about that at some point). Its ordainment is "Thou shall deliver unto those thou believest in", as in, "help those you believe deserve it." This is the one ordainment which is actually kinda in line with Amane's desires, so she imagines Yuuri as less angry at her and more compassionate than the others.

My point is that a lot of the time I feel her actions are talked about as either just motivated by her cult or just motivated by Amane's """sinful""" desires, be it her anger at her abusers or her cravings like wanting to eat cake, when really I think the happiness thing is the main motivator behind those things and it's not quite talked about as much. Does that make sense?

14- Any headcanons on their appearance?

Huh, I usually don't have many headcanons on appearance, but I can try.

I think my favorite is Amane having really sharp fangs. Like, talking anime style unrealistically sharp fangs that make her a terrifying hisser. Cat Amane my beloved.

Also she has small (say, 0,5 cm diameter), red circular scars all over her back. Stun gun injuries (no picture on the link) basically. Listen things with Amane can't stay very wholesome for very long-

I mean, come on. It's the basis of his character and crime, and the voice acting is fucking insane in this section. Apart from how emotional it is, I also like that it still ends in the same somewhat performative self-loathing Es calls him out for in the first VD.

[Gouging in the Night] Es: Showing a hint of weakness and trying to get on my good side like that… Is that another one of your "adult techniques"? [...] Is there anyone who lets themselves get fooled by a specifically prepared "weak" side of yourself? I see, I see… So these are the kinds of skills that you gain when you've lived for a long time.

Gotta love it when a character regrets something bad enough not to be able to forgive himself for it, but he's so afraid of facing consequences and social reprimand because he's built his entire worth around others' opinions that he still heavily plays up the self-loathing to be pitied.

Timelines [23/9/2] Yuno: Haha, we both lie, don't we? The difference is the reason for lying. Kazui-san, you lie to protect yourself, because you're important to yourself. For me, no one is particularly important. That includes myself as well.

Unlike Yuno, who explicitly doesn't want to be pitied. Love these two.

I don't know if I'm explaining it right, but that's what I get from the whole mess.

6- Favorite relationships with another character in the prison?

I love his interactions with Yuno, of course, the Liar Duo. Yuno is such a little bitch to him all the time, I adore it. However, I also love his dynamic with Es, if they count for this question. Kazui's VDs are great.

But honestly Kazui has a lot of good options here. The smoking group with Shidou and Mikoto is fun, his interactions with Mahiru and Amane are also always nice, etc.

19- What do you think their childhood/teenage years were like?

Extremely closeted homosexual, of course. Probably tried to """compensate""" in some way by acting as traditionally masculine as possible, I imagine he was quite the dudebro. With how much emphasis his parents seem to have put on his strength and tradition, I get the feeling he may have been a somewhat stereotypical jock.

That's why I think he may have done a lot of really stupid shit as a teenager and tries to distance himself from them now, which is why he puts so much emphasis on his age despite being less than forty years old. He feels like a completely different person than who he was as a teen, and while he was always self-concious about a lot of shit, he's maybe especially self-concious of the shit he did when he was younger.

Don't take any of that very seriously, though. All of that is practically headcanon vaguely guided by the text!

20- What do you think their social life was like before milgram?

Going off the previous idea, I imagine he only kept a few connections from his teenage years, which is why the one childhood friend he brings up is so notable to him. It's the only one who Kazui really wanted to stick around.

There's obviously Hinako and Kazui's other coworkers, fellow policepeople. The way I interpret the bar scenes in half is Kazui meeting with friends, the bartender being the childhood friend and the woman being someone he met as an adult.

Other than that, I imagine he was pretty closed off and didn't talk to many other people. He seems like the type to enjoy a mostly closed off friend group, but I don't really have anything to support that claim other than vibes alone so.

21- Do you have any similarities with them/relate to something in them?

Uh... I guess personality-wise we're not too different. In real life, I'm quiet and reserved, don't express much emotion, mostly have a "well this is happening now I guess. We vibe though" attitude to most of what goes down in my life, and don't like talking about myself much which yes is making this question sorta difficult.

heart rate challenge is fun because of the costumes and dances and flirting in front of someone's partner you get to do, but god the results sucked. I don't care for the drama of Jin having the highest heart rate with Sienna and I don't care about Sienna rubbing it in MC's face. Can we move on???

Especially because literally on the other side of it, I just picked that MC would have her heart rate raised the most by Logan for fun, and that resulted in NOTHING. Speaking of Logan, he's just another victim of not enough screen time. Like Tyler, Hari, and Logan all seem great but you barely get any chance to talk to them outside of their intro episodes and then by then you're expected to have already made a decision on who to pick. At least Hari is around for a while, but I simply have not really talked to him since Casa aside from hearing how he's fumbling Hazel. And between Tyler and Logan, who in my mind are basically the same personality going only for MC, I kind of prefer Tyler because at this stage in the game, Logan needed to have put more pressure. Or have been an angel sent like Oliver idk he has some substance. Once again, just a waste of a good looking sprite.

I also miss LIs that had their own personalities. Like I think that's why the OG boys are fun at first: each of them being distinct enough but all having reasons to go for MC. But the bombshells this season all seem to kind of just be "yeah I like MC because she's confident and knows what she wants" and that's it. It feels gameplayer-y which is maybe why I'm less intrigued for their routes. Even small things like Lucas liking a girl that puts in effort vs Henrik liking a girl that tells it like it is, so then you kind of have to "compete" with the other characters even though it doesn't make a difference later on with who you pick feels like it gives the characters more dimension.

I also think this is why Bea and Claudia have such compelling routes this season compared to the male bombshells (and vs. some of the other wlw routes in other seasons). They have potential partners that could give them what they want, although we know ultimately probably not. Also why I think if Hari's storyline was more fleshed out and you got time with him, that when he comes back with Hazel, his story could be more interesting.

Also I liked Logan better with the hat on, he needed a different haircut lol.

the pancake challenge is lame. it just made me miss s2 cake decorating challenge 😭

also at this stage in the game, i feel like we should've gotten Mr. and Mrs. (I can't remember if we already did that). But a fun food challenge is fine too, it's just that this one wasn't fun. Also the options all being either "do it correctly" or "fail on purpose?" was very lame and probably contributed to it being boring. Once again, make it more like the s2 cake decorating challenge or paint challenge in difficulty if you're gonna do this.

Also no one else flirting with MC at this point? the other LI's don't have a CHANCE. That's why it's called tempting fate, because it's all temptation and yet while they all claim to want MC, no one is really talking to her what a shame

How does Sienna have the energy to be this much of a hater?? I kinda wanted her to have a small redemption at the end of her time but we never got it. And plus with her being so mean, it's so hard to imagine that at one point she charmed Jin into even considering her, so I feel like for logic's sake, we should've seen some of what Jin saw in her.

And once again we fall into the same problem this season has had which is way too many things at once because what do you mean they had three SEPARATE firepit meetings to dump islanders?? Give them some room to breathe!!

But yeah for some reason a couple is getting dumped right before the recoupling. We say goodbye to my frenemy couple Emel and Oakley. I hated them at times, but I miss them so dearly. They do not deserve to leave. I think that should've gone to Sienna/Max or Liam/Bea. If anything, since it's a public vote they should've had those three couples be at the bottom and then everyone else vote on who they'd like to dump and then however the math works out it ends up being Emel/Oakley, just for realism if the game really wanted to dump them. I understand that it had to be them because there are LI's in every other couple, but that's why I think they shouldn't have this dumping here in the first place.

Then the final recoupling. I touched on this briefly already, but oh my god no one got a chance. This may be the first time since season 2 that I'm sticking with the original person I chose to couple up with the first time I played through (ok technically S5 I did end the game with Suresh but that season is special and in a bad way). And maybe it's just the way I've been playing, but it does seem like in the last few volumes, you really only get to talk to the OG boy you chose or the Casa boy you chose. But I haven't really talked to Claudia since Casa and I'm so sad about that. Haven't talked Max much either, so I thought maybe he was sticking with Sienna? Haven't talked to Hari. Haven't talked to Bea. For some reason before the final recoupling, MC had a chance to talk to THEO? I was under the impression that if you're on a Claudia route then you're not on a Theo route but I guess he was an option the whole time, which was becoming clear in the last few volumes, but I'm still in awe every time he shows up trying to talk to MC. (Side note: a well written Theo friends to lovers route is brewing in my head and I think it would've rivaled a Jake S1 route so that's a shame it doesn't play out that way). Logan also had that chance, but both of those were gem choices, so they don't count in my head.

So no Claudia and Bea? I literally wanted to scream when Claudia said she was choosing a boy 😭😭

Logan is with Bea just because she needs to escape Liam, so I understand why, but they just seem so odd to me. Especially when Oakley and Emel were right there! Should've let them stay, at least they pretend to like to each other!!

Oh but I will miss Liam actually. Unfortunately he has much more personality than Logan so that's a shame but unsurprising that the more boring person stays the longest in love island lol.

Story 2/5

The story was okay, nothing extraordinary or complex. It was simple, which can always be a good thing. But something was still missing for me. If I were to summarize it, the story is about a boy named Alex who wants to follow in the footsteps of his hero, Dyne, and become a Dragonmaster. His friends join him as they meet new party members along the way. They uncover secrets from the past as they fight against the evil force that threatens the safety of their home, Lunar, and humanity's free will. Something like that.

Characters 5/5

The characters in Lunar: Silver Star Harmony are perfect. They are an adorable bunch with a variety of personalities that somehow work perfectly together. I really enjoyed getting to know everyone, and I loved that there was a character named Jessica in the game. It was cool to see my name, Jess, in a JRPG! And she was pretty awesome, definitely a crybaby beneath her tough exterior which is always an intriguing character concept. Mia was also very sweet and I liked nice the party was to her. Luna was lovely, too. And the boys were definitely under their control, which was just funny to me!

Narrative 3/5

I think it was fine. I don't think the narrative was terrible, but I don't think there was anything necessarily mind-blowing about it either. The only way the story moved on was through dialogue, not so much visually seeing anything that was happening. It was very dependent on conversations with others, so maybe that was not grabbing me emotionally as other games have. The conversations themselves were often very entertaining. Jessica and Kyle were always hilarious, and Nall was so good at poking fun at others and making me laugh.

Gameplay/Controls 4/5

No issues here, it was easy to move around. Buttons were easy, nothing complicated at all. The only thing I struggled with were in the battles, whenever I wanted to choose a party member for something (healing spells or items), it was hard to tell who I was selecting most of the time.

Battle System 4/5

This game has visible on-screen enemies which were hard to avoid. If you get near them, they begin chasing you! That actually gave me some anxiety sometimes lol. There was an AI option where the computer decides what the character does for that round. This is a turn-based JRPG and you have to choose an action for each character group turn. It was cool to choose everyone's actions in one go. I also liked that Nall hangs around in the battles and he heals/revives your characters - sometimes in the battle but always at the end.

Customization/Leveling Up 5/5

There wasn't much customization in this game. Equipment was standard and you couldn't synthesize or "make" new stuff. Each character had their set of spells & skills that they learned as they leveled up, which was straightforward with an EXP system. No complaints here!

Art (Music & Graphics) 5/5

The pixel art of the game is really beautiful. I loved how bright and detailed everything was. Each room that I entered had so many little details and it was funny hearing Nall's commentary if I was snooping somewhere I shouldn't.

Music plays, literally, a big part in this game with a heavy focus on singing. Luna in particular is a gifted singer with healing abilities. So cute. But even Alex's ocarina song was sweet! If I remember correctly, a lot of tunes in the dungeons and cities are repeated but it didn't bother me.

Enjoyment 3/5

I mentioned in my Finished post that this game started off strong, and it really did. I was beyond excited to play this game when I first started it. But the more dungeons I entered, the more repetitive the process seemed and I did start to get a bit... un-charmed. There was also a situation near the end of the game, where I spent an insane amount of time trying to do something that turned out to be impossible. That was like the nail in the coffin, as they say. It was hard for me to bounce back fully and enjoy the ending.

Overall, I did like the game. It's very cute and I look forward to playing the remastered collection. I am, honestly, surprised I didn't love it, but I am glad I was finally able to experience this charming (and very anime) JRPG!

As you approach your table, your date stands up and takes off his top hat, holding it in both hands in front of him nervously as he introduces himself.

You can tell he's impressed that he's made it through the whole sentence without stammering, and it's hard not to offer him a warm smile in return for his charming grin, punctuated by his protruding overbite.

He's quick to try and get to know you, but equally forthcoming about himself. And he mentions repeatedly how nice it is to have someone who is so polite and attentive, willing to give him so much attention.

Jervis is also extremely interested in your writing and art, especially taken by how creative you are. Like you have invented worlds to escape into on a whim.

"Why, you could have created as many as six impossible things before breakfast."

And when you broach the subject of Lewis Carroll, he's entranced by your knowledge, how much you know, how bright your eyes are when you talk about it. Which by the way, don't think he hasn't noticed your blonde hair and blue eyes. You'd make a wonderful Alice, truly. And though he wants to compliment you, he really is struggling to find the words.

"You do look marvellous, my dear. But I'm finding it difficult to put it into words. I think I could, if only I knew how to begin."

When you blush at his words, so poetic, so charming, he's completely besotted. Shy, unaware of how magnificent you are? It would be very easy for him to swoop in and claim you as his own.

For what feels like forever, he listens, eyes wide and holding his chest, as your tell him about your love of comics, games, and cartoons. Wonderous, joyous hobbies, escapism with whimsy, something he is familiar with himself.

The wait staff interrupt you though, and you realise that they're cleaning up around you. You wonder how long you've been talking, commenting on how it feels like only a moment you've spent with him. It's silly, but you tell him you hope that you haven't talked too much, or wasted the time to get to know him more as he was listening to you.
