Title Event: Holiday Training Academy Exam

Welcome to Snowbell Academy: a holiday training academy where Cookies are trained on how to become professional holiday workers (mainly Cookiemas). In order to pursue the jobs they want, students have to pass the school’s exams. Unfortunately for 🎄🍰 Stollen Cookie, she’s in a bit of a sticky situation since she flunked the midterms. If she fails again, she might even have to give up on her dreams. Returning to the exam room, she gets paired up with 🍓🍰 Strawberry Cream Cookie (Kingdom players should look twice before making assumptions, this isn’t ⚙️ Strawberry Crepe Cookie), to which the former had heard some negative rumors about Strawberry Cream Cookie and attempted to get re-paired with another Cookie via a request with the principal. Request denied. Therefore, those two are gonna take the exam together as planned… whether they want to or not!

A Heart System has been developed as a failsafe against awkward situations where you would fail to rank because of competitive groupings and not having the listed Cookies up to par. Your rank will determine whether you gain or lose Hearts. Everyone starts with 5 once they register during Round 1, and you just need at least 1 Heart to advance to the next round.

A Grand Champions League Chest containing a MAX Boost Ticket and combi factors specific to each round has been added. Obtain method unknown as of now.

The Cheer system now allows you to cheer on other players to give them a chance for a Heart Revival, keeping them in the game. Unknown how others can cheer for you if you aren’t in the upper ranks.

Rounds now split into preliminaries, main rounds, semifinals, and the finals. With 3 rounds in each phase, that’s 12 total rounds and maps. Ultimately, the finals will still be determined by skill, points, and how much you whaled. The player with the highest score across all 3 final rounds will be the Grand Champion and will get to choose the next Cookie to be featured in the Grand Champions League Statuette.

Girls Doing Stuff: Agency and motivation in girls’ hobby shows

I like to think I have a fairly varied palette when it comes to my anime tastes: a genre charcuterie board with some fantasy here, some meaningful coming-of-age stories there, and a peppering of rom-coms seasoned just right. There’s one category, though, that I always find myself savoring and looking forward to each season. If there’s a cast of funny teen girls trying out a new hobby, be it animation, camping, playing guitar, or building a treehouse, I’m there. But why does this genre have such a gravitational pull? I could answer, simply and truthfully, that we live in stressful times and these shows are often very relaxing. But upon deeper consideration, there’s something else about these girls’ hobby shows that makes my heart happy, and it’s happening more on the level of character construction and development.  

The “girls doing stuff” genre can be polarizing. What reads as an intimate, authentic portrayal of teen girls’ inner worlds to some may seem voyeuristic to others; a character may come off as an over-the-top, manufactured cutesy-blob to one viewer but feel deeply relatable and real to another. And, of course, some people find these series’ characteristic low stakes, slow pace, and focus on small moments relaxing while other people find them simply boring.

I am not attempting to make any “objective” claims with this article. I cannot scientifically quantify the appeal of the girls’ hobby genre for everyone, I can only speak to how and why it appeals to me. And that appeal, I argue, lies in the narrative priorities of these types of show: they are stories about young women with specific passions and motivations, given the autonomy to pursue them. It sounds simple, and it is, but it’s also extremely rewarding and effective when it’s done well.
