El amor es el gran motor de la existencia… “Tu Vida Es Mi Vida”

La historia sigue a Paula, quien padece una grave enfermedad que pone en peligro su vida, esta situación hará replanteé su vida y abandone su trabajo para pasar el mayor tiempo posible con sus tres hijos.

Para ello, compra un food truck en el cual junto a su familia vivirá una aventura, a la que se sumará su padre Lorenzo, que desconoce la enfermedad de su hija y se empeña en que inicien el recorrido en un pequeño poblado en donde han tenido una casa de campo por años.

Al llegar al poblado se dará un enfrentamiento entre Lorenzo y la familia de Pepe, un hombre de nobles sentimientos quien le acaba de pedir el divorcio a su esposa, mujer egoísta que le es infiel. A pesar de que la relación entre Paula y Pepe comienza de manera poco cordial, no pueden evitar sentir atracción el uno por el otro.

Entre la enfermedad de Paula, los secretos familiares del pasado, los problemas a los que se enfrentarán sus hijos, aunado a las intrigas de Malena, la esposa de Pepe, y Rolando, pretendiente de Paula, que junto con Natalia su socia y supuesta mejor amiga, provocarán toda clase de conflictos para impedir la unión de Paula y Pepe.

Estudiantes de Linares destacan en competencias internacionales representando a Chile Noticias Región del Maule:  El Colegio Alborada de Linares celebra con orgullo los logros y participaciones destacadas de sus estudiantes en torneos internacionales, demostrando su excelencia académica, deportiva y valórica. El pasado fin de semana, las estudiantes Violeta Radrigán, de octavo básico, y Camila Méndez, de primero medio, destacaron en competencias internacionales representando a Chile y al Colegio Alborada. Violeta Radrigán brilló en los Juegos Sudamericanos Escolares de Atletismo 2024, realizados en Bucaramanga, Colombia, donde obtuvo el segundo lugar en la prueba de posta 5x80, contribuyendo al segundo lugar general de la selección chilena escolar. Por su parte, Camila Méndez participó en el Torneo Sudamericano U18 de Atletismo en San Luis, Argentina, como parte de la selección chilena de atletismo. En la disciplina de salto alto, alcanzó una marca de 1,55 metros, logrando el noveno lugar, compitiendo con atletas de 18 años que la superan ampliamente en edad, demostrando una prometedora proyección deportiva para Camila. La directora del Colegio Alborada, Ana Alicia Orrego, destacó el compromiso y talento de ambas estudiantes: "estos logros reflejan los valores de nuestra comunidad educativa y el impacto de una formación integral basada en el esfuerzo, la dedicación y los valores que fomentamos día a día". Juan Pablo Rojas, profesor de Educación Física y entrenador del equipo de Atletismo del Colegio Alborada manifestó que: “como colegio, estamos profundamente orgullosos de haber participado en estos torneos sudamericanos, un logro que nos motiva a seguir trabajando con esfuerzo y dedicación. Clasificar con Violeta Radrigán fue una alegría inmensa; su esfuerzo, perseverancia y el apoyo de su familia la llevaron a destacar, logrando un segundo lugar en posta 5x80 convencional y en relevo para atletismo. Por su parte, Camila Méndez de igual manera gracias al apoyo de su familia, constancia y talento logró excelentes resultados a su corta edad. Esto refuerza nuestra convicción de que, con un trabajo bien planificado, podemos seguir formando talentos que nos representen en escenarios internacionales”. Además, en los Juegos Sudamericanos Escolares de Atletismo, el profesor Juan Pablo Rojas recibió un reconocimiento especial al participar en la ceremonia oficial de premiación. Durante el acto, tuvo el honor de interpretar el himno nacional chileno en el podio y entregar una medalla de oro al atleta chileno ganador de los 2 mil metros planos, representando con orgullo a nuestro país. I definitely wouldn't have found this if not for the "Oregon Battle of the Books", and my mom starting the program up at the school library. The culture and language barrier was definitely strong, keeping me from fully getting a lot of references, or understanding parts of the book. Listening to the audiobook was a great choice, as it kept me from stumbling over Spanish sentences, and kept the listening experience smooth and fluid.

Having the book set in Argentina made such an impact. It's also somehow stealing my words to describe just how powerful the challenges that Camila faced were. While this book didn't always keep a tight grip on my attention, I still felt strongly throughout it. As the ending neared, I was sucked in and hoping that everything would work out.

Definitely a book to give a try! It may not be a popular enough choice to make it a common name, but what a strong, beautiful story.

Camino a Marte: Una nueva razón para creer en el cine mexicano

¿Qué tanto debes ver para poder creer?

Seré franco: Sólo me metí a ver esta cinta porque Tessa Ia la protagoniza. Sin ninguna otra expectativa o motivo para dedicarle hora y media de mi vida a esta cinta, debo admitir que salí gratamente sorprendido de la sala de cine. De la nada, me encontré con una cinta divertida, fresca y técnicamente muy bien lograda. Camino a Marte es una película de Humberto Hinojosa Ozcariz (I Hate Love, Oveja Negra) y protagonizada por Camila Sodi, Tessa Ia y Luis Gerardo Méndez, un actor de los consentidos de las nuevas audiencias mexicanas.

Aunque existe cierto debate sobre en qué genero colocar al filme, claramente percibí la trama como una delicada mezcla entre drama y comedia romántica, con una pizca de innegable feeling road-trip. La ciencia ficción aportada aquí por el personaje de Méndez es un plus que la cinta ocupa para darle un brillante twist a su historia, un elemento que compone el mayor encanto de la película. Camino a Marte nos presenta a Emilia (Ia), una joven chica que se fuga de su estancia en el hospital con su mejor amiga (Sodi), juntas tomarán la carretera con el afán de desconectarse del mundo y olvidarse de sus problemas. En el trayecto, ambas se toparán con Mark (Méndez), un misterioso hombre que afirma ser proveniente de otro planeta.

El ensamble de los tres actores, que representan a la nueva generación de histriones que estarán protagonizando las marquesinas en los años por venir, es fantástico. Oscariz logra con sus actores, en especial con Sodi e Ia, una dupla que transmite eficazmente el espeso mensaje narrativo que sus personajes fueron diseñados para emitir. Ambas actrices se logran despojar de su evidente belleza física para darle paso a su atractivo emocional, a su lado vulnerable y a su capacidad actoral que ninguna había podido demostrar en su filmografía previa (particularmente Sodi, quien ya tiene más películas en su haber). Por el lado de Luis Gerardo Méndez, es muy satisfactorio comprobar que es un actor con mucha más habilidad que la demostrada en sus papeles de Chava Iglesias o Javi Noble, personajes que lo habían encasillado por un buen tiempo. En Camino a Marte, Méndez nos entusiasma pensando que sus futuros papeles serán cada vez más complejos, cada vez más difíciles de interpretar. Si bien los diálogos de Mark no son los mejores, es su actuación la que sin duda se roba el show y la más interesante de la película.

La trama es exageradamente sencilla, e incluso me podía aventurar a escribir que la película juega “a la segura”, es decir, no lleva a sus personajes a lugares extremos o a decisiones completamente inesperadas. De hecho, la cinta es muy predecible y la última media hora es una crónica de un final anunciado. Lo interesante de Camino a Marte, es la forma en cómo decide contar ése final que se ve venir a leguas. Es aquí donde se deben destacar los discretos efectos visuales, que al ser pocos y muy bien logrados, cumplen su función narrativa y ayudan a que los últimos minutos de la película sean muy, muy emotivos.  Es precisamente el final de la cinta lo que más me ha gustado, y sin duda uno de los mejores desenlaces en el cine mexicano moderno.

La importancia de cintas como Camino a Marte se puede categorizar en dos aspectos muy relevantes para la industria cinematográfica mexicana. El primero, que cada vez nuestras películas –especialmente aquellas producidas gracias a estímulos fiscales- tienen una mayor calidad técnica, una mejora que es visible y que las audiencias agradecerán, incluso, de manera inconsciente. El segundo, y más importante, es que nos encontramos ante una película mexicana con suficientes recursos de distribución que no se trata de una comedia romántica. Agradezco infinitamente que Camino a Marte haya llegado a un circuito comercial porque podría ser punta de lanza para todas esas producciones de drama que se ven eclipsadas por comedias nacionales de muy mala calidad (tipo Cómo cortar a tu patán o Me gusta pero me asusta). Eventualmente, es éste tipo de cintas las que nos volverán a llevar a ganar Óscares, es este tipo de filmes los que las audiencias deben darles una oportunidad. Camino a Marte podrá no ser una película perfecta o del agrado de todos, pero sin duda es una bocanada de aire fresco para la industria de cine mexicano comercial.

Once upon a time, in Mughal Ruled India, there lived a rich and powerfull Prince Shah-Jehan.

Mumtaz Mahal made her Prince even more rich when she gaved him 14 children.

But her life on Earth ended soon after giving birth to the 14th child.

In tribute to her memory, making their love eternal, Prince Shah-Jehan ordered the building of one of the most beautiful palace where the body of Mumtaz-Mahal would be buried.

And that is how the wonder of Taj Mahal camed to be.

Once upon a time, in the mountains of Argentina, lived a young lady named Camila O'Gorman

One day, Camila met the young jesuit priest Ladislao Gutierrez

Ladislao fell in love with Camila, and she corresponded to his affections

The two decided to run away together, and cross the frontier to Brazil

But before they could rich the frontier, the couple was found and arrested by the soldiers of the dictator Juan Manuel Rosas

Days later, incited by figures like Camila's father, who demanded a severe punishment to their crimes against morality, the couple, showing no regrets whatsoever, was executed in a firing squad by orders of Rosas

One century later, their love inspired uruguyan writer Eduardo Galeano to write:

"They are two by mistake, the night corrects it"

Once upon a time, there was a war.

In the South of Brazil, a revolt in favour of a Republic and against the Empire was happening.

To help the republicans, an adventurous italian was called.

His name was Giuseppe Garibaldi.

When he arrived, a young lady, called Manuela, fell in love with the adventurous warrior.

He asked for her hand to the lady's uncle, the republican leader Bento Gonçalves.

But was rejected, because Manuela 's uncle hoped to marry her with his own son.

Them, Garibaldi departed, and in his journeys to fight, another woman fell in love with him: Anita, who was already married, but was not afrayed in taking the chance to run away with Garibaldi.

The two lived and fought together in several battlefields, in Brazil, Uruguai and Italy, raised three children, and lost a baby daughter.

By Garibaldi's side, ill and six months pregnant, Anita died fighting for the Italian Unification.

While in the South of Brazil, Manuela died without ever marrying, forever loving and waiting for her Giuseppe Garibaldi.

Wich made her known as the Bride of Garibaldi in her home town of Pelotas.

IV

Once upon a time, in the Backlands of Northeast of Brazil, there lived a young woman named Maria

She was married at a young age to a shoemaker

But her hearth would soon be taken by a warrior

A man turned travelling bandit, who was the Captain of a bandit band

Called at birth Virgulino Ferreira da Silva, but more known by the nickname Lampião

With the help of her mother, Maria runned away with Lampião, becoming the first woman to be accepted in his band, and she became known as Maria Bonita

Leading the band, Lampião and Maria Bonita rided to several deserts, fighting the sun, the lack of water, and the police that hunted them

Under a tree, Lampião assisted Maria Bonita when she gaved birth to their only child to come into adulthood: a daughter named Expedita, whom they gaved to be raised in safety by a couple of farmers

In 1938, as they reached the state of Sergipe and took rest in the woods of Angicos, they were killed by the morning, in a surprised atack of the police, who would travel from town to town exibiting their decapitated heads as trophees

Once upon a time, in a mexican town by the sea named San Blas, there was a young woman, named Rebeca Méndez Jiménez, who fell in love with a sailor.

The sailor corresponded to her affections, and they promissed to marry one another.

He sailed away, and promissed to return to fulfill his promisse.

A tempest in the sea tooked the ship, and the sailor's life.

While his wife, back at the port, waited, and waited, and waited.

People kept telling he wouldn't come back. That he was either dead, or had abandoned her for another love.

The bride didn't heard, and kept her wait.

She was called mad, and trapped in an asylum. Several times.

And several times she escaped, and returned to wait at the port.

She waited until death, when she was more than 60 years old

Book Review: Furia by Yamile Saied Méndez (🇦🇷 Argentina)

So, given the recent World Cup news, it seems like perfect timing to get this review up. Congratulations, Argentina!!  ⚽🏆

Review

First thing, if you passed over this book because you’re “not into sports media”, don’t! I almost made that mistake and only picked this up on a Kindle flash sale. This is such a masterfully crafted story of adolescence and feminism, passion for pursuing what you love, girl against society. Mendez weaves tough topics of sexism, missing girls, teen pregnancy, and domestic violence, alongside themes of first loves, sport, and friendship into a truly enjoyable story.

17-year-old Camila Hassan lives and breathes soccer - sorry, I mean fútbol. Her local girls team is on the way to the championship, and Camila, nicknamed Furia, is a star player. The problem is, her parents don’t know - she’s been playing for a year in secret. She’s got other secrets, too, like being in love with hometown hero Diego Ferrari who just got a contract to play in Italy. Her super sexist father doesn’t approve of girls playing fútbol, like much of Argentinian society.

Camila is determined not to let prejudice trample her dreams of playing pro in the US. She sees the girls around her and how they are all affected by the misogyny in their society. But she also finds herself caught between love and sport, and the expectation that a woman should give up her ambitions to support her man’s.

Lies are a big theme of the book, as the first line indicates, but I like that Méndez doesn’t completely take the old fashioned moral approach. Lies protect a woman from domestic violence, they allow a girl to enjoy sport without repression, they keep you safe from the shaming and stereotyping of the media. Lies are necessary in this society, but they are still oppressive and sometimes hurtful. And being able to be your true self without secrets is true freedom.

I loved this story and thought it was expertly written and more mature in tone than I had expected from the cover. Definitely recommend!
