The next day we travel to Santiago, Chile. The jet hums softly as we fly over the Andes, but the tension in the cabin is louder than the engines. I nibble at a croissant, watching Louis stretched out across his seat, scrolling through his phone like he hasn’t a care in the world.

Harry sits a few rows back, his legs curled beneath him, nose buried in a book. Zayn has his sketchpad balanced on his knees, headphones drowning out the world.

I glance between Liam and Niall, both sitting at opposite ends of the jet, studiously avoiding looking at each other. The unspoken tension between them fills the space between bites of breakfast and polite conversation.

When we land in Santiago, the scene at the airport is surreal—crowds of screaming fans pressed against barriers, their voices carrying even through the car windows. Security ushers us into waiting SUVs, and we speed off into the city. The skyline of Santiago is breathtaking, but I barely notice it, my thoughts tangled with melodies, lyrics, and the complicated mess I’m in.

When we arrive at the hotel I immediately retreat to my room again, needing to finish the song I was working on.

The afternoon sunlight slants across my room, bathing it in a warm, lazy glow. I sit cross-legged on the floor, papers spread out in front of me, my guitar resting on my knee. Lyrics are scribbled on the pages in fits of frustration, some scratched out so many times they’re almost illegible. I’ve been at this for hours, but something still feels off.

A knock at the door interrupts my spiral of overthinking.

“It’s Liam,” his voice calls softly.

I get up and open the door, surprised to find him standing there holding two steaming cups of coffee. His smile is soft, familiar, and it instantly calms me.

“Thought you could use a pick-me-up,” he says, holding one out to me.

“You’re a mind reader,” I say, letting him in.

His gaze sweeps over the scattered pages and my guitar. “Still working on the song?”

“Yeah,” I admit with a sigh, collapsing back onto the floor. “It’s so close, but something’s missing. I can’t get the harmonies right.”

He sets his coffee down, crouching beside me. “Mind if I have a look?”

I nod, handing him the notebook. He scans it for a moment, murmuring the melody under his breath. “You’ve got something here,” he says, his brown eyes lighting up. “Let’s try it together.”

We sit close, our knees almost touching, and I start strumming the chords. Liam listens intently, then adds a harmony that sends a shiver down my spine.

“That’s it!” I say, grinning. “That’s exactly what it needed.”

He smiles back, his dimple showing. “Told you it was in you.”

The energy in the room shifts, the air suddenly thick with something unspoken. His gaze lingers on me, and I feel my pulse quicken.

“You’re incredible, you know that?” he says softly.

I blink, caught off guard by the intensity in his voice. “Liam...”

Before I can finish, he leans in, his hand brushing mine as he kisses me. It’s gentle, almost hesitant, as though he’s afraid to push too far. But it’s enough to leave me breathless.

When we pull back, his cheeks are flushed. “I—sorry if that was—”

“Don’t apologize,” I say quickly, my voice shaky but firm.

We sit there in the silence that follows, the music we’ve been working on now just a backdrop to the new song playing between us.

Later that afternoon I join everyone in the lobby. The hotel lounge is quiet, the band scattered across the room with drinks in hand. My heart pounds as I step inside with my guitar.

“Look who’s gracing us with her presence,” Louis teases, his legs thrown over the arm of a chair.

“I, uh, finished my song,” I say, gripping the guitar strap nervously. “I thought you might want to hear it.”

The teasing fades, replaced by curious silence. I sit on a stool in the corner, adjusting the strap as the room falls still.

I start to play, my fingers shaky at first but steadying as the music takes over. When I reach the chorus, Liam joins in from across the room. His voice blends seamlessly with mine, lifting the song in a way that makes my chest ache.

When the final note fades, there’s a beat of silence before Louis lets out a loud whistle. “Well, damn. That was something.”

Zayn nods, his expression thoughtful. “You’ve got a gift.”

Even Niall, sitting quietly in the corner, gives me a small smile that feels like both an encouragement and a challenge.

As I pack up my guitar, I catch Niall watching me, he approaches.

“That song,” he says quietly, “it’s beautiful.”

“Thanks,” I say, my cheeks warming.

Before I can say more, Liam walks in, grabbing his jacket. “Ready to head up?” he asks, his tone casual but familiar in a way that makes my heart stumble.

“Yeah,” I say, glancing back at Niall. “See you later?”

“Yeah,” Niall says, but his voice is tight, and something about the way he turns and walks away makes my chest ache.

Later that night I'm unable to sleep. The night air is cool against my skin as I step onto the shared balcony. My room feels too small, too suffocating, and I needed to get out, even if it’s just for some fresh air. The city below hums with life, a sharp contrast to the quiet tension I’ve been carrying all day.

I don’t expect to find Niall out here, leaning against the railing with a drink in hand.

He glances at me but doesn’t say anything as I step closer.

“You couldn’t sleep either?” I ask softly.

“Nah,” he says, swirling the liquid in his glass. “Too much on my mind.”

I lean against the railing beside him, the silence stretching out between us. “About the tour?”

He lets out a short laugh, but there’s no humor in it. “About you.” He pauses, his voice dropping. “And Liam.”

The weight of his words hits me like a punch to the gut. “Niall, I—”

“Don’t,” he says, shaking his head. “I get it. You’re figuring things out. I just... it’s hard, you know? Watching you with him.”

I bite my lip, guilt pressing down on me. “I never wanted to hurt you.”

“I know,” he says quietly, finally turning to look at me. His blue eyes are full of so much emotion that it makes my chest ache.

We stand there in the quiet, the city lights flickering below us, and before I can stop myself, I reach out, my hand brushing his.

He looks down at our hands, then back at me, something shifting in his expression. Slowly, he leans in, his lips brushing mine in a kiss that’s careful, unhurried. It’s mutual, a moment we both lean into with a kind of quiet desperation.

When we pull apart, his forehead rests against mine for a heartbeat. “I don’t want to be just a maybe,” he whispers.

The words stick in my throat as he pulls back, his hand slipping from mine. “Goodnight,” he says softly before retreating into his room, leaving me alone with the night and a heart that feels even more tangled than before.

From the age of four, hardly a day went by without a shuriken in her hands.

In such a turbulent time, any and all help was needed in the eternal power struggle between the Senju and Uchiha - and she was no different; the frail daughter of a Senju woman and a peasant from Water country, her father had immigrated to Fire country in search of a better life and had landed in the middle of a bloody standoff between the two clans.

Her father had been hesitant for their only daughter to become a kunoichi, but her mother had grown up the daughter of a ruthless shinobi and a skilled kunoichi and was determined for her to learn the skills necessary to survive in such a ruthless world.

On the evening of her fifth birthday, she found that she could manipulate plantlife with her hands. Her mother was thrilled. She had said something about studying under the famed Senju Hashirama, but little Sakura hadn’t been listening - she was too busy admiring the gladiolus under her fingertips.

It was on her sixth birthday when she truly understood the gravity of the war - her cousin was slain by an Uchiha, and her mother wept bitter tears for her aunt. Sakura had been too numb to truly process the death for a few days - and when she finally recognized that her cousin was dead, she screamed herself hoarse while her father attempted to hold her back from running out the front door.

That innocent six-year-old had grown into a cold, calculating sixteen-year-old woman under the tutelage of not Hashirama, but his brother Tobirama - the man had seen the potential in her mind and was determined to expand it. Not that the man minded; she hated fighting and preferred to spend hours reading texts from beginning to end, absorbing their words. She had a certain expertise in genjutsu, and was content to let her teacher practice on her.

Everything changed when she met fifteen, soon to be sixteen-year-old Uchiha Sasuke.

The son of a high-ranking Uchiha, he was every bit as battle-hardened and ruthless as his kin; his was a name that was whispered more in fear than reverence, and her teacher found every excuse to keep her away from battle whenever word got out that he and his brother Itachi would be fighting. It was clear he didn’t want them to meet, and she never questioned him.

But today, of all days, she found herself alone by the riverbed, getting water for her ill father. It was a beautiful morning, and she hummed a tune while she filled a bucket.

Suddenly she paused, sensing a presence for a split-second behind her.

Turning her head, she nearly dropped the bucket in surprise when another person emerged from the treeline, long dark hair draped over his shoulder. Deep worry lines creased his face, and despite his youth there was something remarkably aged about him.

She knew him immediately.

Freshly twenty-one-year-old Uchiha Itachi, son of the man they called Kyougan Fugaku, was calm and collected as he nonchalantly strolled up to the river, a cloth in hand.

“Good morning, kunoichi,” he greeted politely, seemingly ignoring the emblem sewn into the sleeve of her kimono top as he knelt on the rocks.

Sakura stared incredulously at the man for several hesitant seconds. Why wasn’t he attacking? She had heard of his tendency for small mercies - on the battlefield he was like a machine rather than a man, cutting down Senju no more coldly than he ate or drank, but supposedly there were rumors afloat that he wished for peace more than war.

Truthfully, there was a certain softness to the way he carried himself. Minutely, she relaxed her rigid stance, seeing no sharpness in his shoulders nor steel in his gaze.

“You’re an Uchiha,” she finally spoke up, almost accusingly.

He paused in cupping his hands around the water. “I am.”

“Why aren’t you attacking me?”

That finally got him to look up, and for a moment she felt a guilty chord for the way he gazed at her with mild surprise.

“Why should I attack? You’ve no weapon and at the moment neither have I,” he pointed out, and she sheepishly looked away, feeling quite chastised. “I am merely here to wash my face, and no more.”

“Forgive me, I meant no offense.” She shook her head and went back to her bucket. “I’m not used to sitting near one of your kin without a sword in my hand.”

Itachi was quiet for several long moments, staring at the cool water. Then, he replied, “It would be a grave offense to my honor as a man if I deigned to strike you unprovoked. You’re no harm to me, and so I am not to you.”

Though his words were meant in good faith, his casual admission bristled her, and she barely held back from shooting him a glare as he dipped his head near the water’s surface, splashing his face.

The silence between them was awkward, and as she went to get to her feet, a sword to the side of her neck immediately raised her hackles, and she belatedly reached for her pouch.

There came a sigh, and Itachi looked up with a disapproving, “Sasuke.”

“Brother,” the younger Uchiha tersely greeted. “What are you doing with a Senju?”

“She was here first, and neither decided it was prudent to begin a quarrel where there is none.”

“Have you forgotten how many of our number hers have callously murdered?” He demanded. “Have you forgotten how they desired to strike down Cousin?”

“You’ve killed just as many, if not more,” she spat with a nasty glare over her shoulder. “My own cousin was murdered in cold blood by one of your kin. I was six; she was eight.”

“Please.” Itachi raised his hand, rising from his knees in one smooth motion. “Sasuke, sheath your sword. Do not shame our father in this manner.”

For a couple of seconds, the young man looked like he would argue, but one sharp look from his brother made him reluctantly pull back, and the katana glided back into its sheath.

Itachi sent the girl an almost apologetic glance as he extended a hand. “Forgive my foolish brother - though our father has raised us with peace in mind, I fear old habits die harder than they must.”

She stared at his hand before her eyes traveled up to his face. She searched it for a long moment before she sighed through her nose and accepted it, allowing his sure grip to guide her to her feet.

“All grudges forgiven, Uchiha,” she answered, letting go and stooping to retrieve her full bucket. “For your sake, I do hope this feud ends soon. I too grow weary of the fight.”

Itachi nodded simply, bowing at the waist before turning. “Come, Sasuke. Mother is expecting us.”

Sasuke stared at her, gaze sure and dubious. He was handsome, despite his blood - a slender nose, high cheekbones, regal brow, soft dark hair - had she not been a Senju, and he not an Uchiha, she might have fancied him.

He nodded dismissively and turned, hand on the hilt of his sword. “Good day, Senju. Be cautious when you make your way back.”

“And to you… Uchiha.” She managed to answer, clutching her bucket to her chest.

Interpretation

Child 4's drawings demonstrate a rational and analytical intellect as well as a competitive drive. He expresses his delight, enthusiasm, confidence, and anxiety through the employment of bright, warm, chilly, and dark colors. Colors are also used by him to express his personality, likes, values, and aspirations. He likes blue and green, for example, since they are calm and fresh colors. He like Lego and robots considering they are complicated and entertaining. He enjoys stars considering they are brilliant and motivating. He enjoys building and winning considering they are tough and rewarding. He enjoys engineering considering that it is a creative and helpful job.

He also expresses his melancholy, wrath, disdain, and boredom through the use of drab monsterous unpleasant and dark colors. He also use color to convey his feelings, thoughts, and experiences. For example, when he is terrified or apprehensive, he draws a monster with enormous eyes and teeth to depict the threat in his head; when he is safe, he draws his father to represent his protection and direction. When he thinks about friendship, he sketches his best buddy since it reflects his social relationship.

Child 4's drawings are a reflection of his artistic expression as well as his identity, emotions, and social development. "Color is a power that directly influences the soul," remarked Kandinsky (Suk, 2006). As a teacher, I may utilize colors to get an understanding of his psychological and emotional characteristics and functions by seeing how he uses them to convey his inner states, feelings, ideas, and experiences (Miles, 2004). I can also utilize colors to boost his logic understanding competition and conviction by giving him a variety of materials, tools, and opportunities to experiment with them.

大家好! Feeling less burnt out after my block leave, over the weekend, I took a leisurely stroll at a neighbourhood. It felt calm, peaceful and quiet, a stark contrast to the hectic hustle and bustle in town and the CBD. Since the Chinese New Year break will be a longer one this year, I'll take that opportunity to explore my country. Many local food stalls will be closed during the festive period, but some will remain open and I look forward to discovering new gems.

Grace, Douglas and Meatball have returned to Grace's hometown for the first time since the covid pandemic began. Since flight tickets are expensive due to high demand, they drove into Malaysia instead. Grace said the journey takes anywhere between 6 - 10 hours, depending on traffic conditions. Her childhood home sits in a kampung (village), a rustic small town where the market doesn't open everyday and the food is not only affordable but tastes amazing. Not only that, they're famous for their coffee.
