Haro, Spain (No. 5)

Haro, a city in La Rioja located on a hill in the basins of the Tirón and Ebro rivers, has medicinal waters. Its name is undoubtedly phonetic result (loss of /f/ in initial position) of the Latin faru, lighthouse, here in the sense of beacon, watchtower probably in the military technical sense.

The Ebro River and the Oja-Tirón River pass through the municipality. The Ebro enters from the north, coming from Miranda de Ebro, through the area of the Conchas de Haro, where it separates the Montes Obarenes from the Sierra de Cantabria. Continue to draw wide meanders, making the limit with Labastida and Briñas, and leaving from the south in the direction of Gimileo. The Oja-Tirón River enters from the west from Anguciana; in the Arrauri dam part of its waters are channeled (Arrauri channel) to lead them to the hydroelectric power station of San José, returning them back to the riverbed that ends up flowing into the Ebro near the neighborhood of the wineries in the so-called "mouth of the Ebro". By a donation of 1421 it is known that at that date the channel of Arrauri already existed, which was probably already used to move mills.

The abundance of water creates a landscape of groves and poplars, which provides irrigated land for horticultural crops. The soils of the area are formed mainly by limestones of the Upper Cretaceous. Its permeability forms aquifers recharged by the infiltration of rainfall.

The main population center is surrounded by three hills: Cerro de la Mota or El Castillo, also called Atalaya, Cerro de Santa Lucía, where the water tanks are located, taking advantage of the fact that it is above the rest of the city, and the Cerro de Santo Domingo. For centuries, the population has remained located between these hills, due to this natural strangulation, expanding in the late twentieth century through the existing plains in the direction of Gimileo.

The relief is mountainous to the north, where the Ebro is embedded in the Conchas de Haro, and predominantly flat in the center and in the south. The altitude ranges from 782 meters to the northwest, already in the Montes Obarenes, and 435 meters on the banks of the Ebro. The city rises to 479 meters above sea level.

'46: Marion Hicks and Lt. Gov. Cliff Jones purchase property for a planned Nevada Ambassador hotel on 3/11/46. The property was bought from Guy McAfee, Art Ham, and J.K. Houssels who had planned a hotel called Casa de Oro. Sale price is rumored $85,000.

'47: Officers of Thunderbird are a Las Vegas and Los Angeles group, Hicks, Jones, V. Sayer, J. Lane, P. Wagoner, J. Wells (Reno), and J. Kozloff. Hicks as builder. Construction begins on 46 acre lot in Oct.

'48: Thunderbird opens 9/2/48. 107 rooms, 75-foot observation tower. Signs by Graham Sign Co (RJ 8/18/48).

'53: Hicks builds the spin-off Algiers Hotel.

𝑽𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒎: 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑳𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝑫𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 SPOILERS 💥

Could it be that wanting to go to New York is like a last minute thing? The reshoots were in August and when in the bar they say to go there could also be reshoots, just like when they see the statue on the street (it had reshoots in Las Vegas in September). They also say that 𝑺𝒑𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒓-𝑴𝒂𝒏 4 will be set in Battleworld and they will put together all of New Yorks, where, what a coincidence, 𝗘𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗲 is now and it's assumed that, if in the end 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗺 is still alive because of the cockroach, he is going there. So, does leaving them in New York in their universe have other intentions? Will their reunion be in 𝑺𝒑𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒓-𝑴𝒂𝒏 4? Is that why 𝗧𝗼𝗺 in this interview doesn't know what to say when was asked about 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗠𝗮𝗻?

But what if 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗺 is really dead in 𝙎𝙤𝙣𝙮's universe, he "transfered" through the hive mind to the bit of the 𝑴𝑪𝑼, and he is there, and 𝗘𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗲 is in 𝙎𝙤𝙣𝙮's universe, but they will bring him to the 𝑴𝑪𝑼 because of Battleworld? 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗺 would spend time with 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗠𝗮𝗻 until 𝗘𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗲 appears and then they meet and 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗺 would already have the white spider on his chest and they would fight 𝗞𝗻𝘂𝗹𝗹.

By the way, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who didn't understand the interviews, because in some of them 𝗧𝗼𝗺 says that he's not going to come back, in others he says that he's dying to continue playing them and doing things with them... Anyway.

Disclaimer: I am a Chargers fan so this will obviously be biased BUT I have been a football fan for the last 12 years and absolutely love dissecting the game and making comments so I figured I would give this a try! Please feel free to make comments and let me know your thoughts in my inbox!

Players to watch:

Los Angeles

Justin Herbert QB- Oregon- Year 5🩵

Pookie. Angel. Perfect prince. Idk. He’s just my favorite player in the NFL to watch. The arm talent, the decision making, the…everything. Ok so, this is honestly his coming out year. He’s finally got a coaching staff that is competent and hopefully working in an offense that doesn’t put the weight of the world on his shoulders. He’s also coming off of finger surgery and a minor foot injury so he should be healthy and ready to take over the league. Simple. I can’t wait to watch.

Stats: carried the team on his back pretty much all of last season, lost a finger nail, lost most of his sanity and then lost his season to a broken right index finger. Best game last year by far was the week 10 loss against the Lions where he threw for 323 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Cameron Dicker Kicker- Texas- Year 3

Little angel bean. Best kicker in the league. No further comments.

JK Dobbins RB- Ohio State- Year 5

Coming off of an Achilles injury and trying to shed the “injury prone” rumors, Dobbins is set to make his Chargers debut. One important thing to note, he’s only fumbled twice in his career…iykyk

Joe Alt RT- Notre Dame- Year 1

Here we go people! Fifth overall pick, mixed reviews from the audience. I’m rooting for him and the entire o-line to be much improved so I hope this first test shows that this investment in the “trenches” was worth it.

Khalil Mack EDGE/LB- Buffalo- Year 11

Recorded six sacks the first time these teams met last year. Was drafted by the Raiders in 2014 and has 100 career sacks, last season being one of his best in the last five years with 45 solo tackles and 17 sacks.

Joey Bosa DE/EDGE - Ohio State- Year 9

Also trying to shake injury prone rumors but seems to have taken on a new outlook and a new sense of excitement and motivation due to this new regime. Played in 9 games last season, starting 5 and still finished with 6.5 sacks. Honestly, looking forward to Joey making a big impact this season.

WR Room

I’ll preface this by saying I still miss Keenan Allen BUT ready to move forward. Very excited for Josh Palmer to get his time to shine hope he can stay healthy. DJ Chark excites me I’m gonna need to see some big plays from him. Quentin Johnston needs to have a breakout season. Ladd and Brenden are rookies but I need some huge contributions from them. Simi I know will show out when his number is called and if Derius the punt return king gets some targets I know he’s gonna put on a show. Nervous but excited to see how this goes!

Las Vegas

Gardner Minshew QB- Washington State- Year 6

Played in all 17 games for the Indianapolis Colts last year, made 13 starts and somehow always seems to know exactly what a team needs to get a win when his number is called. On his third team in his NFL career, looking to prove himself so he should come out looking to make a statement to keep his starting spot over AOC. Made the Pro Bowl last year with 305 completions and 3,305 passing yards, both career highs.

Davante Adams WR- Fresno State- Year 11

Your favorite wide receiver studies his film. Six Pro Bowls, three-time First team all pro, 39 games with 100+ receiving yards and has 9,637 receiving yards over the span of his career. Will get targets, will catch the ball and will probably score a touchdown (hopefully not two but who knows) this weekend.

Brock Bowers TE- Georgia- Year 1

Rookie Tight End making his NFL debut. Voted First Team All American by just about every single sports outlet in the country last season. Had 56 catches for 714 yards and six touchdowns for the Bulldogs in a 13-1 season falling short of a 3-peat not making the college football playoff but defeated Florida State 63-3 in the 2023 Capital One Orange Bowl.

Maxx Crosby DE- Eastern Michigan- Year 6

AKA Mad Maxx, neck tats can play football. Played in all 17 games last year and started. Heart and soul of the Raiders defense with 48 solo tackles and 14.5 sacks. Did get shaken out of his shoes by Justin last time and I’m sure he didn’t forget so he’ll be coming for vengeance.

Christian Wilkins DT- Clemson- Year 6

Entering his first season with the Raiders after a very successful five years in Miami. Recorded an NFL high 9 sacks for defensive tackles last season, started all 17 games and recovered two fumbles. Wilkins makes this Raiders defense a lot scarier and this will be a great first test for the often shaky Chargers o-line.

1. Justin was injured, fresh off of surgery and Easton’s presence in the pocket is like a kid running late for curfew, very rushed and deer in the headlights

2. Defense quit and was ready to start fresh having lost faith in the entire coaching staff

3. We were all praying on the Charger downfall on this day and got what we wanted so sorry Coach Staley but…not sorry

Had to include this because baldy is gone and I couldn’t stand him. This was very embarrassing.

Firstly, all of my OC’s are color coded if you haven’t noticed: Oliver is green, Rina is pink, Amari is blue, Ryuko is red, Dante is purple, Cyrus is yellow, and Kaliska is orange

Oliver is an absolute cologne whore, like he is absolutely ready to drop his draws at the drop of a hat for some Aqua de parfume (I think that’s how it’s spelled) that’s actually a pretty big reason why he fell for Alphonse, was because he smelled so good

Cyrus had an awkward anime phase when he was in middle school, he’s just thankful there’s no photos of him during that lime so that way Lucien can’t find them and ask about it

When they were still getting to know each other, Dante would pretty much stalk Faust’s socials just to see more of him. He won’t admit it but he still feels embarrassed because he knows how creepy and weird it was, Faust has no idea and Dante doesn’t want him to think he’s creepy so he just has to pray he never somehow finds out he did that

Rina and Dante are like bffs and “playfully” shit talk each other whenever they meet up

In HS, Amari once got into an argument with someone who was making fun of Charlie and ended up simply throwing a desk at said person, she was suspended for 2 weeks and Charlie was dying from guilt

Rina has a ragdoll Siamese cat named Nyxey (Nix-ey)

Ryuko has a part-time job as a tattoo artist artist and has a sunflower back tat that she a friend of theirs did for them in college, her mother will NEVER find out about it

When Kaliska was 9, her dad had taken her and her siblings to Las Vegas, and she saw the pretty women that her dad had brought over to the motel room when her older sister took them to the pool to leave the adults be (I’m sure you can assume why) seeing those women ended up being her trans awakening, they were so beautiful to her, she wanted to look just like them. She still thinks about that from time to time

Oliver’s father left the picture when he was around 3-4 years old so he has very little memory of him, but his mother and family always say he looks just like him, especially after his transition. He hates it

Rina is a sucker for old love music and melts every time she hears it, Auron has in fact taken notice of this

Cyrus actually had a hobby in cooking and baking when he was younger but was made fun of by his parents and older relatives, saying it was a “women’s job to do that” and “it made him look too girly”. He’s completely comfortable with being “girly” now but he still hasn’t been able to enjoy it the way he used to, so he just enjoys watching Lu do the cooking instead

Amari was premature and has a heart murmur ( projecting abit)

Amari made their nickname “Casper” into “ghost” and uses that for all of his socials

Kaliska actually majors in Scientology and Jack thinks she’s super duper smart and cool for it, she is in fact super smart and cool

Ryuko calls everyone babe but calls only calls Finn “sunshine” and “sweetheart” he loses his mind every single time

When they were younger, Amari, Rina, and Oliver used to practice jumping over fences and brick walls with the older kids on the street for fun (projecting again)

I gave those three those colors bc of the power puff girls

Ryuko and Amari had a bit of a situationship in college, they’re friends now tho

Ryouko’s vibe is more or less based off of Marceline from Adventure Time

Rina actually bumped into Auron once in hot topic at the mall when she was in high school, she was actually infatuated with him for a solid week and called him her “emo boy” to her “pretty scene girl” she still has no idea it was him she bumped into that day (I hope y’all get the song refs)

Dante had a habit of chewing his nails so in order to stop it, Faust started painting his nails for him every other weekend. It worked bc Dante didn’t want to ruin the work Faust work so hard on for him

Amari spoils the ever living sh*t out of DD and Charlie gets a little bit hurt when DD goes to them whenever he’s cuddling up with her and DD just wedges themself between them

Cyrus has had to buy Lucien those cheep Obama phones you get outside of the Well-fare office simply because Lucien accidentally breaks or burns his phone and CANT be trusted with an actual phone

1.) jiluka

jiluka is a j-metal/visual kei band and i think their music is awesome. it is harder than metalcore and also has a lot of guttural vocals

2.) plastic tree

i love palstic tree!!!! they make very floaty rock, but some of their songs are also pretty harsh-sounding. and ryutaro has a very unique voice i think

3.) die ärzte

they are a punk band from germany (idk if you speak german lol) and i think their music is really awesome, even if you dont speak german. my dad used to listen to them in the car with me all the time (good memories)

reol is a japanese singer and makes j-pop. i have followed her music journey for a long time and her music is so good. she used to collaborate on songs with giga (a vocaloid producer) but now she has a solo project

bin is a group from japan and they make j-pop/rock. i really like the sound design of their songs and the illustrations for the mvs are also really pretty (i think one of the band members draws them, but i am not sure)

utsu-p is a japanese vocaloid-metal producer. i really really love his metal and have been following him for a long time

babymetal is a metal-idol-group from japan. they started out really young and are still going and their songs are really good (been listening since i was 14 lol)

eve is a solo artist and he makes j-rock. i have also been listening to him since ~2016 and his music just gets better and better

8.) hachiya nanashi (old name) / yuri kuriyama (栗山夕璃)

he is a vocaloid producer and makes electro-swing/pop/? kind of music. i think his songs are super jazzy and really nice. he even covered some of his songs himself. his old vocaloid stuff is under his old name, and his newer singles under his new name. he also has a band called "van de shop"

fav songs: purple hype, neurose, dizzy dizzy, jitterbug, limelight, happy shape, op, anaphylaxy

sorry for the crazy long insane ramble ask, but it is only very rarely that i can talk about the other music that i listen to

and most of it is japanese, because i have always been a freak for japanese music since age 9!!! (i have know j-music for a longer period of time than i havent) with my vkei phase now it has kind of experienced a resurgence

"You don't have to worry," promises Brendon Urie on Pretty. Odd.'s opening track, "Because we're still the same band". The Panic At The Disco frontman sounds sincere enough, but his credibility is dented by the music he's singing over a jaunty romp that conjures up images of a West End theatre's house band going hammer and tongs on a 70s rock classic; oh wait… hasn't that already happened? Still, you can't blame Las Vegas' leading "vaudeville rockers" for trying to placate the two million souls who bought their 2005 debut, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out; if the fans got narked when the band dropped an exclamation mark from its name, how on earth will they react to their heroes' bold new sound? Make no mistake, this album is both things that its clunkily-punctuated title suggests: pretty as an iced cupcake, but often very, very odd. Listening to all 48 minutes of its rambling, reference-strewn guitar-pop, it's easy to imagine the band members, all of whom are under 23, spending lazy afternoons rummaging through daddy's record collection while enjoying everything that the Las Vegas narcotics trade has to offer. The sound of Sgt. Pepper looms large here, as the joyous lead single 'Nine In The Afternoon' signposts, but it's safe to presume that tunes by The Kinks, The Monkees and The Beach Boys have found a place on the Panic boys' mp3 players recently, too. As for those narcotics, well, their influence shines through on the album's numerous 'WTF?!' moments, from the ukulele-driven whimsy of 'Holy Spaces', to the galloping horse rhythm track of 'Pas de Cheval' (geddit?), to the moment that 'Behind The Sea' descends into a gin-soaked sea shanty. Yes, really. And yet, Pretty. Odd. is so melodically rich, so full of the joys of musical possibility, that it's easy to forgive its more preposterous moments. Layered with brass, charming vocal harmonies and even an orchestra (recorded at Abbey Road, of course), it's shiny and self-consciously psychedelic, but grounded by the muscular guitar riffs that lurk just beneath the surface. Everything here is authentically retro, without the merest hint of a synthesizer or a programmed beat, and disarmingly British, especially in its not-so-subtle fascination with the weather. One caveat: it would be nice if the album's big, swaggering pop sound had been married to some more straightforward story-telling. As it is, Ryan Ross' lyrics shoot for poetry ("Diamonds do appear to be just like broken glass to me" is admittedly pretty brilliant), but often wind up wallowing in nonsense, not least on 'She's A Handsome Woman', when talk of "sheepish wolves", "tucking fibs into cookie jars" and something called a "jealous orchard" threatens to distract from the impressive melody. Ryan, mate, it's time to put that joint down. Heaven knows what the fans will make of it, but Pretty. Odd. offers myriad pleasures to the open-minded music lover: the harmonica-laced melancholy of 'Do Know You What I'm Seeing?', the big, dewy-eyed balladry of 'Northern Downpour', the gorgeous wistfulness of 'She Had The World' and the Beach Boys-style joy-pop of 'When The Day Met The Night' are as delightful as anything we're likely to hear all year. Pretty.Odd. is the best kind of album from a band that's still in chrysalis: bold, ambitious, as likely to raise eyebrows as sales figures; in short, an exuberant mess.

The feeling to be cut off any contacts in this 13 hour flight watching 3 movies while flying over the taklamakan desert with no lights on the ground that is earth, just the stars reflecting over the roof of the plane gives me the feeling of a paper blank self in space oddity, a reset button of identity while this horny french guy with man bun next to me make a huge effort to organize me a banana from the stuff because I told him I don’t eat dough

Hank and Janet got back together again. I really wanted to root for them the first few times they tried but at this point I find it excruciating to read. Scarlet Witch forced The In-Betweener to take them there after overwhelming his order aspect with her chaos magic. They were quickly overwhelmed by Scorpio’s army of giant scorpions, so Yellowjacket helped Ant-Man use his helmet to control them. With Scorpio now out of the way,  In-Betweener sent all of the cities and people back to Earth. He left the Avengers with a warning: a great evil is coming and one Avenger will die.

In honor of their efforts to maintain order the U.N. declared Avengers Mansion a sovereign territory, making them ambassadors for the superhero community. As they decided which members would remain on active duty Hank offered membership to Scott, who only accepted after losing the custody battle for his daughter Cassie. Hank also suggested that Jack of Hearts stay with the team, partly because his body would detonate like an atomic bomb if he and Tony weren’t constantly finding new solutions to dampen his power.

Hank and Jan took a much-deserved vacation to Las Vegas to *reconnect.* Dedicated to making what would have been their anniversary good, Hank went nearly 3 full days without checking his emails or doing any kind of work. At the end of the third night he proposed to her, but she couldn’t bring herself to say yes. Whirlwind came out of nowhere to attack them. He had grown tired of dressing hookers like Wasp and wanted to claim the real thing for himself, but he was no match for the two of them. With Whirlwind beaten again, Hank and Jan agreed that - married or not - they could be happy with what they have together.

World Art Nouveau Day 

World Art Nouveau Day (WAND) is an event dedicated to Art Nouveau that is celebrated annually on 10 June. The first World Art Nouveau Day in 2013 was organized by The Museum of Applied Arts (Budapest) (IMM) in cooperation with Szecessziós Magazin (a Hungarian Magazine about Art Nouveau). The selected date – 10 June – is the anniversary of the death of two famous architects of the movement, Antoni Gaudí and Ödön Lechner. Activities like those organised on World Art Nouveau Day aim to create more awareness of Art Nouveau heritage among the public.

The two biggest organisations in Europe coordinating the World Art Nouveau Day activities are the Art Nouveau European Route in Barcelona, and the Réseau Art Nouveau Network (RANN) in Brussels. In 2019 the event was supported by European Heritage Alliance.

Anora Review? Recap?

Man, me and the Festival De Cannes voters do not have the same sensibilities at all. Well, with that dead obvious hint about my opinion of Anora, I know am just going to be up front about what I think. Because I want to dive into my viewing experience of this movie, and am basically going to spoil the whole thing. If you want to avoid spoilers, here's what I think: I tentatively recommend the movie. Just like Conclave, if you do watch the movie, stay for the whole thing. Not kidding, don't leave the theater until the credits start rolling. Trust me on this.

Now I'm gonna spoil the whole movie. Seriously. Anyone who reads past this point can't get mad at me because I warned you.

This movie starts with 30 to 40 minutes of sex. Really boring, no genitals-showing sex set to weirdly folky music? The opening of this movie made it feel like a Hallmark, just-a-girl on her own before meeting the guy-of-her-dreams but it was following a stripper. I was highly confused. Wasn't this a modern Cinderella movie? Either the song fit or the visuals did, but not both together.

Oh I guess I should quick digress and explain the prerelease information I had. This movie came out in other theaters before ours I heard, and we specifically got it because Poor Things did well in our demographic and corporate thought the same thing would happen with this one. It's darkly humorous that Heretic is outperforming it currently, but whatever. I read the description on our website because I was curious. It was something about a stripper marrying a Russian oligarch who runs away and she needs to find him. This is where I picked up the "modern Cinderella movie" line since it was how the description opened.

Anyway, the main character, Ani (It's a whole thing in the movie how she hates being called Anora. I'll circle back to this.) meets Vanya while working, and she gets paid by him as an escort for about a month. They pursue a whirlwind romance and get married in Las Vegas. A big thing for Ani is she makes Vanya buy her a 4 karat-diamond wedding ring. But one day, some guys show up at the door demanding to see their wedding certificate.

At this point, I'm pretty anxious. I was not jiving with the sexy business at all. Maybe it was just my current mood (I got struck with inspiration to start working on a TTRPG involving body horror, so my thoughts on anything flesh-related are definitely in darker places currently.), but the opening of this movie was reminding me of Terrifier 3. Except with sex instead of gore. It wasn't realistic enough to visceral or disturbing, and it was over the top enough to be silly or hedonistically enjoyable. And the pacing really drags. When Ani is being paid to be Vanya's girlfriend it's sort of cute I guess. My issue is a) they are both kinda assholes, and b) the tone is confusing. Like the text of the movie is throwing a ton of red flags at me about this relationship and who these people are, but the movie is playing out like the romance is a sweet thing and that these two are so in love. I honestly thought that maybe I was being too curmudgeonly and out of touch. "This is the modern Cinderella story!" I thought, "I must just be behind the times."

...Am I laying the foreshadowing on too thick? Sorry, I'll try to thin it out.

Anyway, these two guys show up at Vanya's door and demand to see his marriage certificate. These are people who work for Vanya's parents who do not approve of his marriage. A fluster-cuck happens, and Vanya takes off into the street. There's an incredibly harrowing scene where Ani get's tied up with a phone cord by the goons reluctantly because she keeps trying to run off. I also wasn't sure if the scene was supposed to be funny or not. Like the goons are very likable characters, and it's silly that these burly guys are getting their asses kicked by a stripper with glittery hair. But it's still a kidnapping happening! The tone of the movie still felt inconsistent at this point, but at least stuff was happening.

Anyway, the goons intermediate boss shows up. They make a deal with Ani to work together to find Vanya, and then the next hour of the movie is this motley crew looking for a Russian idiot twink. And the movie is back to being repetitive and boring. Also, there's a ton of hostile character interactions. Which is understandable to a certain degree, Ani did basically get assaulted kidnapped by these guys and the lead goon took the wedding ring she really liked. But after the 400th time she yelled at them about being married to Vanya I lost all sympathy. Plus, Igor was trying to apologize for the whole tying her up thing, and wanted genuinely to make her as comfortable with a shitty situation as possible.

Igor was one of the goons, by the way. He was my favorite character in the movie, mostly because he seems chill and compassionate, but also weirdly uncomfortable with the entire situation. Like he wants to help out Ani because he feels bad that she's in this horrid situation, but also really wants to go home and put this whole experience behind him. It's a real shame that Ani treats him like shit for the entire movie.

I did find out the movie is supposed to be a bit of a black comedy as well. What tipped me off was the scene where the car they are all driving around in gets towed. The goons get in a screaming match with the tow truck guy and end up pulling the car off the tow hook by driving it backwards while the tow guy yells "It's only my second week on the job!" It was pretty funny. It did make some scenes I thought were slightly horrifying at first really funny in hindsight. Ani kicks the non-Igor goon in the face, breaking his nose and giving him a concussion, and the crew refuses to let him go see a doctor. He's not even that helpful for the investigation, let the guy get medical attention!

Anyway, the crew eventually finds Vanya at the nightclub where he met Ani. They drag his drunk ass out of their, his parents arrive via private plane and threaten Ani into going through with the annulment of her marriage, and she is destroyed when it turns out that Vanya doesn't fight it and is perfectly willing to give her up to appease his parents. I really like this. It was a bit of a swerve, but justified my bad feelings about their relationship from the beginning. Turns out I'm not out of touch, I love a sad ending! It was only slightly ruined by the impression I was getting that they were going to set up Ani with Igor. I actually wrote in my notes that if those two hooked up, I would reject the movie. Well...

So after the marriage is annulled and Vanya goes back to Russia, Ani is told she can spend one more night in Vanya's house, but she needs to clear out the next day. Igor stays with her and they have a conversation about names. Turns out Ani doesn't like being called Anora because it means Honor. Or something, it was really hard to understand Igor in this scene. Because he looked that up, Ani accuses Igor of being a rapist which REALLY FUCKING ANNOYED ME. GIRL! He's like the only person in this movie who's trying to be nice to you! So the next day Ani gets all her stuff packed up and Igor drives her to wherever she's staying. When they arrive, Igor give Ani back her wedding ring. He had stolen it back from one of the bosses. Then Ani jumps him. Now, if you are me, this is where you sign, throw your glasses to the side, and completely write off the movie. I would have walked out, but I decided against it because there was like 10 seconds left in the movie. And it's a good thing I didn't, because literally the last ten seconds save the entire movie.

Here's what happens. As Ani is grinding on Igor, he goes in and kisses her. Ani reacts extremely violently to this, she pulls aways and starts hitting Igor before breaking down crying in his arms. And then the credits start rolling. I was stunned by this ending. Everything made so much more sense now. All those red flags I was getting from Ani's relationship with Vanya, I was supposed to be getting those, but from Ani as well as Vanya. Why is Ani so insistent that she and Vanya are in love despite the fact that Vanya ran off without her? Because she needs this to be real. This is probably the nicest thing that has ever happened to her and she definitely wanted this to be real. The wedding ring is a symbol for that. Why is she so mean to Igor only jump him at the end? Because that what she thinks she's supposed to do! All men to her are either evil predators, or nice guys she feels are obligated sex. And when Igor shows her genuine affection, she has no idea how to handle it and breaks down! It's a very powerful ten seconds.

Quick fire thoughts on non-story elements. The acting was really good, the cinematography was interesting but I don't know if that means it was good, and I didn't like the music. Purely for personal taste reasons, but I don't like heavy techno music or overly earnest love ballads, and don't think they mix well together. Movie's also probably 20 minutes too long, but it does help drive the twist at the end home so what do I know?

So that's Anora. It's not perfect, even with the twist at the end. (Why is the sex in the first fifth so boring? If the point was to show how shitty her situation is as a stripper the sex should be incredibly grody.) But this might be the first time I've experienced the ending of the movie saving the entire fucking thing. So I recommend it, I guess. It's a bit of a hard sit through, although not in the way something like The Substance is. You'd definitely be better served going in if you know it's a comedy.

I’ve always been the biggest reader when I was younger, Percy Jackson were my first ever novel I raved over, but when I read the whole series, one and two, I got so bored with other books, so my mom bought my 9 year old self the english translated editions of The Iliad and Odyssey, I’m also really big with Mythology! Greek, Roman, Native American, Egyptian, Norse!

I love music!! Always listening, especially "old school", I have several records of ABBA, one even from the 80's! Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, Queen, Blondie, The Cramps. My family calls me an old soul, but I love Taylor Swift, The Marias, Lorde, Billie Eilish, Automatic.

Along with reading, I’ve always been a writer, more creative with stories of adventure, mystery, magic, and not so much of school essay writing but all the way throughout school, I was apart of the school Newspaper, I’ve done my own research papers on topics that interest me, the evolution of the solar system and space, hated how long that one was, The story of the female pirate, Jeanne de Clisson, a female pirate who raided French ships and slaughtered the men, leaving one alive to report back to the French King, who executed her husband. All long lost writings locked away in my middle school account. I’m very fond of Google Docs.

I have 4 pets at home, 2 Boston Terriers, 1 Weiner dog, but most importantly my cat Luna.
