yesterday played new board game with friends called welcome to the dungeon where you can either just put monsters into a dungeon or nerf the skills of an adventurer who is about to go into the dungeon. eventually as more monsters get put into the dungeon and adventurer's skills dwindle, people tap out of the game until only one person is left and then they have to go through the dungeon that has been stacked with monsters by everyone else with the adventurer. (essentially, a game of chicken). win condition is to successfully go through a dungeon twice (or be the last person standing after everyone else has lost to the dungeon twice)
and i won in the most chaotic ways possible
started off the game where my goal wasn't to win but just to cause chaos and make other people lose, so i tapped out during most rounds while taking away good skills and tossing in hard monsters into the dungeon
went through the dungeon successfully the first time using an adventurer class that my friend described as "kinda impossible to win on" and it was mostly luck. i didn't expect to win that round but it was really the 1 skill that was like "if you have low HP you automatically defeat monsters of X strength"
second time (and the one i won on) was when we let a friend just DIY a character by mashing together different skills from different classes. I drew a monster card of insanely high difficulty and put it into the dungeon, knowing immediately that I COULD win that round if a single skill remained on the table. AND IT DID IT STAYED THERE and i won on 1 HP left. it was amazing
technically i got through the dungeon 3 times. first was through a practice session where i won by pure luck, but I also walked into that dungeon with like pretty high confidence and it felt great.

Manga the Week of 12/8/21
SEAN: Busy busy busy! Almost forgot to type this up this week! What do we see?
ASH: Oh, do I know the feeling!
SEAN: Yen On has the 3rd volume of The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten as well as Reign of the Seven Spellblades 4.
Yen Press debuts an artbook: AidaIro Illustrations: Toilet-bound Hanako-kun. This does exactly what it says on the tin.
ASH: I quite like the art in Toilet-bound Hanako-kun, so I’m looking forward to this collection.
Also out from Yen’s manga imprint: Bofuri: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense 2, The Eminence in Shadow 2, Final Fantasy: Lost Stranger 6, For the Kid I Saw in My Dreams 7, and The Saga of Tanya the Evil 15.
MICHELLE: As with much else, I do mean to get around to reading For the Kid I Saw in My Dreams someday.
ASH: I read the first few volumes and have the next few on hand, though I haven’t actually gotten around to reading them yet.
SEAN: Three debuts from Viz. Akira Toriyama’s Manga Theater is a massive, 625-page hardcover featuring a ton of short stories from the legendary Dr. Slump and Dragon Ball creator.
ANNA: That sounds like a great holiday present!
MICHELLE: I didn’t love Dr. Slump but really adored Toriyama’s COWA! oneshot, so might check this out.
ASH: Wow, that’s a lot of manga packed into one volume! Should hopefully be pretty good.
MELINDA: This is pretty cool!
SEAN: Kaiju No. 8 is a Shonen Jump + release that already is getting simulpubbed, and has HUGE buzz. A man who works on cleaning up after Japanese Godzilla monsters suddenly finds himself with new powers. Can he now achieve his dream of fighting them?
ANNA: Also intriguing.
ASH: Indeed! I’ve heard good things.
MELINDA: Okay, I’m ready.
SEAN: Rosen Blood is from Akita Shoten’s Princess, and if I said reverse harem vampire story would that get your attention?
ANNA: This fully has my attention, surprising no one.
We also get the final volume of Takane & Hana, the 18th, which is out in both a regular edition and a special edition which has a variant cover and an extra chapter. I’ll miss these goofballs.
ANNA: I’m behind on this series, but I am fond of it!
MICHELLE: I will miss them too!
SEAN: There’s also Chainsaw Man 8, Fullmetal Alchemist: Fullmetal Edition 15, Jujutsu Kaisen 13, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War 21, One Piece 98, Queen’s Quality 13, We Never Learn 19, Yakuza Lover 3, and Yona of the Dawn 33.
ANNA: Stoked for the excellence of Yona of the Dawn and the insanity of Yakuza Lover.

Seven Seas debuts Robo Sapiens: Tales of Tomorrow (Robo Sapiens Zenshi), a done-in-one omnibus from Kodansha’s Morning Two. This is a multi-award winning manga about robots and humans, and how far apart and close to each other they are.
MICHELLE: Sounds intriguing.

Kodansha’s first print debut screams “this is actually Vertical”: Emma Dreams of Stars (Emma wa Hoshi no Yume wo Miru). A one-shot from Kodansha’s Morning, but it was originally published in France, and is about the first woman Michelin Guide Inspector.

SEAN: J-Novel Club has a few series in print which, well, are mostly already out, but Amazon lists them as next week, so… anyway, it’s Ascendance of a Bookworm 10, I Shall Survive Using Potions! (manga) 5, Infinite Dendrogram 14, A Lily Blooms in Another World, My Friend’s Little Sister Has It in for Me! 1, Tearmoon Empire 2, and The Unwanted Undead Adventurer (manga) 2.
ASH: I am so far behind on my light novel reading, but there are some good ones here.
SEAN: Digitally we have two light novels debuting. Goodbye Otherworld, See You Tomorrow (Sayonara Isekai, Mata Kite Ashita), a post-apocalyptic journey series that looks a bit more serious than most recent isekai titles.
There’s also Private Tutor to the Duke’s Daughter (Koujo Denka no Kateikyoushi), the story of a commoner who was trying to become a court magician… but failed. Now his only recourse to avoid debt is a suspicious tutoring job.
We also see Lazy Dungeon Master 15 and the 7th Unwanted Undead Adventurer (manga version).
Ghost Ship has Call Girl in Another World 3 and Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs 16.
Denpa Books gives us The Girl with the Sanpaku Eyes 3.
And Dark Horse has the 3rd volume of Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!.
Cross Infinite World gives us Reset! The Imprisoned Princess Dreams of Another Chance! 2 digitally.
Lastly, Airship has two digital-early titles: The Most Notorious “Talker” Runs the World’s Greatest Clan 2 and Reborn as a Space Mercenary: I Woke Up Piloting the Strongest Starship! 3.

so you’re attracted to Hestia’s loli oppai? ahaha, I’m kidding.
so now you realized that you want to explore dungeons, and also realize that other than prisons and politics there’s no real dungeon in the real world. so you delve to digital world and found out that there’s a game about dungeon exploring called Danmachi Memoria Freese.
this guide is here to help you start your own adventure!
1. Reroll til you get at least 1 4*. it’s straightforward really, the rate for a 4* is only 2% for the adventurer and 1% for assist, for a total of 3%. what’s adventurer and assist? don’t worry, you’ll understand even if I don’t explain (check your party screen!). anyway, get at least 1 4*. I recommend getting Leviya myself, as for why we’ll get to that later... you get 450 iris(es) (premium currency) for logging in the first time (I believe it’s probably only for some time, maybe in May 2018 you won’t get it anymore as it says for pre-registering) and 10 pulls cost 400. reroll by clearing app data (not rooted only), but I don’t recommend this unless you’re on wifi, as the game data itself is over 1GB
2. Complete story until you can access non-story tabs. get your party ready, and start adventuring a bit, probably until you finish 3rd chapter.
3. Farm excellia (experience) books in the “boost” category in quests. exactly how it says, go farm that. use excellia orbs or whatever its name is and farm for 1 hour. do not try to get to the hard mode yet and use potato snacks (jagamaru-kun) when needed. level your party up to max
4. Farm falna (materials for status boost) in the “boost” category in quests. again exactly how it says. go to the easier mode first and clear the quests. fill up your party members’ status board (excluding rank up). if you’re short on cash, go continue farming falna without filling the board first. you can also open up valis (money) dungeon for this. more importantly, farm more skill falna(s) than other falna(s). you can exchange 10 small falna(s) to 1 medium and 10 medium to 1 large in the shop for no cost.
5. Repeat step 3 & 4 while trying to rank up your party members, then going to the harder dungeons / modes
6. Finish the rookie quest chain! you can get a 4* gacha ticket from it. you can also get the ticket from 7 days beginner login bonus and a bonus for logging in for 30 days (and 60, I guess per 30 days). I’d save the tickets for themed gacha myself, in case I don’t get what I want in 4* guaranteed gacha
So why did I recommend Leviya for the first pull? Leviya has AoE (Area of Effect) skill as her first unlockable skill (I cannot remember about the others, mind you. Ais’ AoE is after her rank up to 5*), so you can just go auto battle while farming. do note that she’s not very durable though, so if you go to hard or very hard difficulties you may want to get another AoE-er to defeat your enemies in 1 turn or try increasing her vitality.
do not get the themed (bathing suit) adventurers in the shop exchange if you get the start dash package (400 paid iris(es)). if the game’s following JP version there will be 4* guaranteed gacha for bathing suit. there’ll be 4* guaranteed gacha for younger version of our characters too. they aren’t introduced as of now though, but they are in JP ver. get the beginner(?) Ais / Leviya / Bell / etc etc instead (non-themed ones), as they don’t have 4* guaranteed gacha

Summary
‘Burden Hero’ is a turn based game with the ultimate goal of cooperation, the game opens by showing the characters the adventurers (players) can choose to play as and introducing them to the great Burden Hero himself. The adventurers must traverse through the dastardly dungeon, protecting the mighty burden hero from all harm and slay the evil boss at the end of the dungeon.The king has sent out an important quest for aiding his son ‘Burden Hero’ to urgently slay the evil monsters sealed within the dungeon. If you fail, the monsters will breakout of the dungeon after the holy seal is expired and will destroy the nearby lands, leaving death in their trails. If the adventurers succeed, however, they will be paid back kindly with eternal riches for their service. 
‘Will you accept this quest adventure, or will you shamefully deny?’
This is a co-op game for 2-5 Players.
Rules Sheet
The story:
You are fellow adventurers helping the “””great””” hero through a dastardly dungeon and slay the beast that lies within. Protect the “”””GREAT””” hero as you will all be facing many dangers on this journey.
Icon Names:
Health Points (HP): ‘Health Points’ is your amount of health your adventurer has, if your health reach 0 then you are dead.Attack Points (AP): ‘Attack points’ are the amount of damage your adventure can dish out with abilities.Evasion Points (EP): ‘Evasion points’ will rely on how well you can avoid attacks from 0 - 6. The number of EP you have will be based on the dice. (you must roll within your adventurers EP numbers to avoid an attack. If you didn’t then you will take the hit).Tokens (T): Abilities can not be used constantly, your chosen adventurer will have a limited amount of tokens to signify their usage (tokens show how many times you can use your abilities). If you run out of tokens can cannot use your abilities.Bad Effects Token: This token is given to anyone who as been afflicted with a bad effect (stunned or DoT)Passives Abilities(P):Most ‘Passive’ abilities do not need tokens to be at use. They are always active (based on our chosen adventurer)
The Dungeon
The dungeon has 3 levels of depths to it, every time the adventures reach a new level of depth, the difficulties increases:
More monsters (+1 per level of depth)
More rooms
But there are factors that balances the game out:
More treasure (+1 per level of depth)
+1 extra token per level of depth. Min 0 tokens - Max 3 tokens
When encountering a room with a question mark, these mystery rooms have a certain preset for each number on the dice. Roll the dice to see what number you get. You must complete on of the mystery rooms to continued. You can also do another mystery room for possibly more rewards.

Ambush (draw monsters based on level of depth)

Trap (lose 1 equipped treasure card)Monastery (Heals all adventurers for 2 health)

Treasure
After deathing all the monsters within a room, the players can draw a treasure card from the treasure deck (+1 based on level of depth). Although some treasure cards may be useful. However, there are some treasure cards that are either useless or more harmful than useful.There are 4 types of treasure:
Armor (body/helmet): Adventurers can have up to 2 pieces of armor: Head,Body. If the player has two of the same type of armor piece, the adventurer must choose which one they must discard into the discard pile.
Consumables: Consumables are one-time use treasure cards. After being used, it must be immediately discarded into the discard pile. Adventurers can only carry 1 consumables at a time. (Consumables do not take up an action)
Weapons: There are normal weapons for all adventurers to use.
Rubbish: Treasure cards that do nothing can be discard right away.
Weapons, Consumables & Armors can give both good and bad stats. When receiving and equipment cards (armor & weapon treasure cards), you cannot discard it if you are not wearing anything whether good or bad. You can only discard it when receiving the same type of equipment card.
Death
If an adventurer dies during combat and the team kills the monster and completes a room, the dead adventurer will be revived but loses all but keeps one treasure card. The team can also give their own equipment to the revived teammate  if necessary.
Goal
Your goal is to move up the tower and kill the greatest monster within while keeping your hero alive. You slowly move up the dungeon, killing monsters and looting rooms based on each floor & level. Each floor based on the level of depth will be harder than the last level but also more rewarding.
Death/ Dazed
When a player runs out of HP, they are in a ‘dazed’ state where they cannot do anything until the rest of the team defeats the monster or the monsters defeat the team. If the team defeats all the monsters within the room, the dazed player awakens but loses one equipped piece of equipment (body armor, helmet, weapon or consumable).If the entire team is defeated by the monsters. You lose.
Fighting
When encountering each room, the players will be greeted by a monster (+1 on level of depth). The players must take turns killing the monster while fending off the monsters attacks.The turn stat will be like this:

Icycle Dart: Deals 3 damage with 50% chance of stunning the enemy for 1 turn. (role an odd number to stun enemy)
Enchanted Weapon: Give ally a buff that has a low chance of stunning the enemy for 1 turn. (role a 1 or 2 to stun enemy)(P) 
Necromancy: After killing an enemy monster, Mage has the chance to allure the monster to fight on our side with half stats. (role a 5 or 6 to successfully allure the monster). The monsters must kill the dead monster (your side) before targeting the adventurers & hero.
Archer:
6 HP, 3 AP, 3 EP (2 tokens)
Kukri throw: archer throws 2 of his kukri out, dealing 3 AP each while dealing 1 AP per turn for 2 turns. (roll dice on an even number to land the kukris successfully)
Poison arrow: Deals 4 damage while dealing 2 AP on the next turn.(roll dice on an odd number to land the poison arrow successfully) 
(P) Scouting: At any time of the dungeon, Archer can see the content of the nearby room for information.
Dryad:
7 HP, 2 AP, 2 EP (2 tokens)
Rooted: does 2 AP and stuns the enemy monster for 1 turn.
Life Essence: heals team for 3 hp.(P) 
Leech: Damage dealt by the Dryad will be halved will return was hp
Thief:
5 HP, 3 AP, 4 EP (1 token)
Smoke bomb: a powdered explosive that stuns all enemies for 1 turn.(P) Scavenger: after completing a room, thief can pull an additional treasure card and give it to anyone.(P) 
Sneak Attack: Thiefs’ normal attacks deals double AP to enemy monsters who are under bad effects (stunned or DoT)

Design Statement
We will be talking about the Co-op board game called Burden Hero. Now, the Co-op game Burden Hero would consist of at least 2 people can would be able to play so that there wouldn’t be any unfair advantage given to the enemy if you were playing by yourself, However, the maximum people that can play this game is 5 players. The acceptable age range we have given it is 8+, the reason why we have done that is because anyone lower than 8 would have difficulty playing this game as this is a complex game as it has effects and skills. The time to understand the game and how it works would take at least 30 minutes of gameplay, that way the fundamentals of the game is understood. We will be mentioning the research that was conducted so that we would be able to brainstorm ideas as well as which games were inspired and what was implemented for this Co-op to be created. We will also mention on how the game plays and what rules were implemented in this game so that there would be a fairness advantage and becomes a balanced game. While smoothing out the edges of the Co-op game, we’ll be able to present you the game without any of the flaws, making this fun for the players and as well as being progressive. If we’re going to make this a flawless Co-op game, we would need to mention about the playtesters and the feedback we receive from the playtesters and then make improvements on the Co-op game from the feedback given from the playtesters. Finally, we’ll mention the conclusion about the Co-op game about our and the playertesters final thoughts.

For the research, we decided to investigate games with a system where players must co-operate together in order to win the game. MOBAS like ‘League of Legends’ and ‘Dota’ are good example of a cooperative game. The group of players must fight against another group of players, combining each players talent on timing and knowledge to outwit and defeat their opponents. However, a proper cooperative game would be the game fighting against the players. ‘Darkest Dungeons’ demonstrates to the player the punishments of not cooperating together. Another game we researched is ‘Left 4 Dead’ where the players are placed into a post apocalyptic world and must travel from point A to point B, covering for each others’ backs from hordes of zombies and the occasional zombie variants.
The characters undergo stress when adventuring the dungeons and the player must manage stress levels, provide supplies & fend off monsters. We wanted to implement that seriousness that ‘Darkest Dungeons’ gives off, however we had to tone down the level of difficulty due to our target audience  The inspiration for our board game was from: Pokemon for the cute cartoon aesthetics where each monsters are unique or absurd but still works due to the art style.
Munchkins for the layout of the board game & gameplay, Darkest Dungeons for the level of factors that adds to the difficulty & the opinions of high risk, high reward gameplay & The Guild of Dungeoneering for it treasure system and pleasing sketchbook aesthetics.
You are fellow adventurers helping the ‘great’ hero through a dastardly dungeon and slay the beast that lies within. Protect the ‘Great’ hero as you will all be facing many dangers on this journey. It is a turn based co-op game where players must travel from room to room defeating the monsters until you enter the final room to defeat the big boss. Players will encounter treasure after complete number rooms or encountering mystery rooms. The treasure is a way to balance out the late game with a hint of chance, giving the players good or bad gear.
During the first play testing session, we presented the first prototype of the co-op game. The mechanics of the game very basic but was able to keep the functionality of the game intact. The board was simply a descending ladder of numbered rooms with no mystery rooms. There were no treasure cards either, meaning the players must methodically think of each action cautiously. Also, if a player happens to be defeated by the monsters, they are permanently removed from the game, making the burden hero more vulnerable. Perma death was scrapped with a lighter penalty, if a player is defeated by a monster, they will be dazed and will not able to fight until the rest of the team defeats the monsters within the room. However, if all of the players or the burden hero is defeated by the monsters, they will lose the game. Previously, there was a ‘cool down’ mechanic within the game where abilities from adventurers and monsters run on a cool down (meaning the abilities can not be used after a certain amount of turns). This was removed due to how tedious on having to remember each individual cool down length and was replaced with ‘tokens’. Monsters (except the boss) no longer have abilities and abilities uses tokens as source of energy, each character have different numbers of tokens so the player can keep track on how much they can use and strategically think on when to use them.
After all the researching, play testing, getting critical feedback from people that played ‘Burden Hero’ and improving the co-op game from the given feedback. We have produced our final product and we are pleased with final outcome of ‘Burden Hero’. We were able to craft the prototype into a full fledged game while conserving our base ideas, game mechanics and theme for the game.

Yeah. You read that right. Of all the 1561++ monsters currently available over at dndbeyond I somehow managed to roll the living avatar of an actual god. Now you get why I had to reroll yesterday’s monster, right? This is why. Luckily for us (mostly me, really) it so happens that I’ve felt Tiamat’s wrath first hand. Without any further ado, let us talk about one of Dungeons and Dragons most well known figures...

The numbers
Oh boy, where to start with this one. There’s a reason Dungeons and Dragons has mostly stayed away from giving Gods and deity like monsters their own statblocks. Even this statted version of an avatar of Tiamat has some truly game breaking stats. We’re talking about a +8 in WIS and INT, +9 in CHA, and +10 STR and CON. Even their lowest stat, DEX, is an average +0.
Tiamat’s saving throws are very much as godly as she is with a +9 to DEX, +17 to WIS, and ridiculous +19 to her STR. She could literally roll a Nat 2 and still succeed most saves without even needing to burn a legendary resistance.
Speaking of which, “resistance” is definitely a word that pops up a few times in this creature’s block. Like any boss monster worth his or her salt, Tiamat has not one, not three, but FIVE Legendary Resistances. Sorry, did I say resistances? I meant to say immunities. We’re talking about immunity to Acid, Cold, Fire, Lightning, Poison, a bunch of conditions, and the typical non-magical weapon attack resi– immunity. Oh yeah, also? Anything below a 6th level spell immediately fails since Tiamat has Limited Magic Immunity. If you’re wondering how your players are supposed to stop her, well, the simple answer is they can’t but do keep reading for the longer version.
If you thought we were done with the crazy numbers, you’re in for a treat. This gargantuan fiend (yeah, not a dragon or celestial for some reason) has an AC of 25, a hit point pool of 30d20+300, a flying speed of 120ft, and a passive perception of 36.
Yeah, that’s a +26 to any perception checks. Say goodbye to your Sneak Attacks, my fellow rogues. Oh, Invisibility? Enjoy Tiamat’s 120ft Truesight, as well as her 240ft Darkvision.
As if we didn’t have enough resistances and hit points to blow through, Tiamat also has a pretty neat Regeneration feature that just, tops her off for 30hp at the start of each of her turns.
But let’s talk about some of the damage that she can dish out instead. Of course the main “feature” if we want to call it that for this creature is that fact that, like a Hydra, there are multiple heads to deal with. Each of which has their own possible Legendary action for a Breath Weapon, at a cost of 2 of her 5 available at each round. I’ll spare you the details but just know that the averages for damages are between high 60s and low 90s. If you’re wondering what exactly you’re supposed to do with that last Legendary Action, well, you can just take a big chunk out of the Paladin with a Bite attack. Or you know, just take 5 bite attacks per round on top of your Claw-Claw-Tail Multiattack for a total of 8 attack rolls per round.
As if this monster didn’t already have enough things at its disposal, Tiamat also gets a 3/day access to the 7th level spell Divine Word, which can just instantly kill player depending on their current number of hit points.
I know I was trash talking the huge numbers this creature gets earlier in the article but, if anything I think the 240ft area to her Frightful presence should be increased. Just make it like two miles or something because holy sh–.
Oh, and just in case you somehow manage to “kill” her, she can’t actually die. She’ll just reform back at her place and plot revenge on whoever did the do.

The lore
Drawn from Babylonian and Sumerian mythology, Tiamat was known as the Goddess of the Sea. Although there are slightly different versions of the stories, basics are that she get betrayed by other gods and eventually births dragons as part of her revenge.
In terms of Dungeons and Dragons, she has been part of the world ever since 1975 when she was introduced as The Dragon Queen and although she has accumulated many other titles throughout the years, she continues to be an iconic figure in 5th edition.
She is known are one of the two primary Draconic Gods. Together with her brother Bahamut, she was once part of a single dragon deity named Io, who represented creation and was thought to have created the multiverse. Flash forward an unknown number of millennia and Io was defeated and cut through cleanly into two parts from which spawned Bahamut and Tiamat.
Chances are that if you’ve been playing Dungeons and Dragons for a bit, you will have heard of Tiamat’s and Bahamut’s rocky relationship. While their rivalry and hatred for each other is well known, this wasn’t always the case. Nowadays though, it is most certain that if Tiamat were to escape her imprisonment she would focus on bringing about the destruction of all Metallic Dragons as one of her very first acts.
Although no longer included in her statblock for 5th edition (thank god), some of the lore for older editions described Tiamat as being able to watch and listen up to a 10mile radius around her, and being able to “poison” water or any substance containing water such as potions. She could also charm reptiles and teleport around planes and locations as wished. Just when you think she couldn’t get any more broken, am I right? Thankfully, as mentioned before, none of those seem to be current parts of her 5th edition skill set. What does remain as part of her stat block is the fact that she simply cannot be killed and will eventually reform and reappear to cause trouble.
Similar to most of her dragon children, Tiamat often presents herself a woman with dark hair, a sorceress sometimes known as the Dark Lady.
If you’ve ever fought an ancient chromatic dragon in your campaign, there’s a slight chance that they were in fact spawned directly from Tiamat and one of her multiple consorts.
As a Greater God, Tiamat doesn’t just represent all even dragons and reptiles, but also the ideals of conquest, greed, destruction, tyranny and a bunch of other nice stuff. Her hunger for power is such that she has in fact been killing and absorbing other Gods and their power for a very long time. Many believe this to be one of the reasons that prompted her getting banished.

If you’re wondering where exactly you can find this fiendish creature so that you may slay her once and for all, look no further than Avernus; first layer of the Nine Hells. Although trapped here, she is free to roam as wished. In the untold years since her imprisonment she has built a massive fortress from which she rules as she continues to seek for means to escape her imprisonment. Of course if you are thinking of approaching her there, you might have to deal with large numbers of other devils, as the Dragon Queen has a decent amount of support from Asmodeus himself.
Back on the Material Plane, the Cult of the Dragon, also known as Church of Tiamat, and the Keepers of the Secret Hoard are always hard at work attempting to free the Dragon Queen. The cult is explored in great detail in the 5th edition modules Hoard of the Dragon Queen and Rise of Tiamat, but for now, just know that Tiamat’s followers tend to be just a greedy and power hungry as she is. Those who achieve a certain amount of power and notoriety within the ranks become known as Wyrmspeakers. In terms of her dragon followers, chromatic dragons often commit atrocities and mass destruction in her name.

The execution
Look man, I get it. Dragons are cool and in a game half named after them, we definitely want to fight them, but Tiamat? Seriously? It’s your fiery funeral, but okay, let’s see…
Actually, let us start by discussing how we’re meant to fight her in one of WoC’s own modules. I suppose the whole article is a giant spoiler for the Rise of Tiamat Module as it is but just in case: Spoilers ahead!
At the end of the Rise of Tiamat module (second part of the Tyranny of Dragons adventure set) the party of heroes is meant to race against the Cult of the Dragon as the rush to complete a ritual that will free Tiamat from her imprisonment in the Nine Hells. It is stated several times throughout the book that the chances for the players to defeat Tiamat, if she is successfully summoned, are extremely slim. So slim in fact, that the adventure places several ‘clauses’ for the ritual that allow the players multiple ways to either stop the ritual completely or greatly weaken Tiamat’s avatar once she comes through into the Material Plane. From reducing her hit points and number of Legendary actions and resistances to lowering her AC, all so that the players might have a chance, just a chance, of sending her back to Avernus.
I bring this up because, unless you’re planning on this encounter to TPK your players and wipe out the board, you will definitely need to come up with some ways to give your players and edge and weaken Tiamat.
And this is just Tiamat (ha!) that we’re talking about here. If we’re going by lore alone she will definitely not be by herself when the time comes to rise. She will have a massive array of allies from cultists, to chromatic dragons and devils. What I’m saying here is that this is definitely not an encounter to through at your players lightly. It will require extreme balancing and preparation on your part as the Dungeon Master.
If your Rise of Tiamat players are unfortunate enough to not stop the ritual in time, or if you’re still set on subjecting your group to Tiamat’s wrath, do try your best to make the encounter memorable! Go all out and don’t be afraid to get creative with combat. This should be the kind of be all or end all final battle where all the player’s effort finally pays out as their allies assemble and prepare for a final assault against Tiamat’s forces.
Oh boy, that was a long one but I definitely enjoyed doing all the research needed for this piece. Even learned a few things I didn’t know despite having played through the Tyranny of Dragons module.

Alistair is happy to hear that Keiran is healthy and happy. I believe he wishes for a son now as well! Though I’m not sure if I’m ready for that!
I agree with you on the Chantry issue. I recently found out that the [various curse words are written and then violently scribbled out] moron who replaced me decided to have Templars follow Justice and Anders around, as well as force him to give up Ser Pounce-A-Lot! He’s in the dungeons now, after we all reminded him that what he did was against not only Grey Warden law but Chantry Law. We can’t find either of them, but we found Kristoff’s body. His wife is happy.
It seems the Chantry is overstepping their boundaries. I’ll keep you updated.

Keiran is a normal looking baby. The only ‘Old God’ thing about him is his magic. He’s leaking it a bit, which is common for magic babies apparently, according to Morrigan (No, I don’t know how she knows.) It’s… it’s rather… I don’t know how to describe it. Remember the presence at the Battle? Remember the purple dragon fire? That feeling?
It kinda feels like that.
Seems I made the best choice to ditch you all and live with my lovely wife Morrigan. (We circle married! Exchanged rings and everything! Sorry you missed it!) Anders did a runner, huh? Can’t say I’m too surprised. I wish him the best of luck.

I’m awful, I know. I’m also not to happy with this, but I was having trouble with finding Sarah’s voice. And Cosettes because both don’t like each other much and probably are super awkward even years later about it.
Anyway- long story: This AU follows the idea of Sarah being recruited as well as Cosette. Rosalind however, is still dead. Sarah and Cosette at the time weren’t really friends, but stuck to each other anyway.
Why? Well, Sarah, who is basically a ball of rage, is incredibly loyal. Rosalind was their best friend, while Cosette was the annoying cousin of said friend. However, with the death of Rosalind (as detailed in Cousins), Sarah decided to stick with Cosette as to not dishonor the memory of Rosalind, who wanted them to get along. (I also think Sarah was a bit in love with Rosalind, just a little and it hurts being around her cousin.)
Cosette as well, if I read her right, would also stick with Sarah out of a memory of her cousin.
Being recruited together added more friction as both of them would not want to follows the other’s orders. But at the same time, Sarah, though they won’t admit it, isn’t sure about themselves as a leader. After all, they missed Rosalind’s break down, and they used to be the one in the Tower who always noticed everything.
So, Sarah would grit their teeth and bare it, other then going to the Tower while Cosette held the fort in Redcliff. They now declare they despise the Fade.
So, Cosette is the Hero of Ferelden while Sarah is just another Warden. (Who totally romanced Morrigan. Fight me.)
So, the letters detail how they actually did become better friends later on. I tried to portray Sarah’s rage through their letters while Cosette I tried to keep a little selfish and vain. But both of them hold regret over the death of Rosalind because hindsight is twenty-twenty.
 They’re also short because I picture Sarah not being very talkative in letter or voice. Mostly they say what they mean and that’s it. They have little patience for grandstanding, and Cosette knows this, so she replies shortly as well.

Let’s Play Dungeons and Dragons: Introduction
So, I think I’m going to go ahead and post the D&D stuff I was talking about earlier. About three months into the campaign, I started keeping notes on each session. I’m thinking of releasing a session or so worth of notes regularly (probably a couple times a week) until I catch up with where we are now, and then just posting updates whenever major story beats wrap up (probably every 1-3 weeks. Sometimes boring things take a long time). Of course, there’s a very obvious problem with that idea: there’s three months of lore between the start of the campaign and when I started taking notes! Thankfully, one of the other players was taking care of that at the time, so I’m going to try to summarize it as best I can.
Let’s get started!
The story began in the town of Valen, a port city located on a peninsula off the southern Sword Coast of Faerun. Three adventurers, Lucas Valeroyant (played by Rich), a recent graduate from the arcane academy of Candlekeep, Ser Graham Broyer (played by Rich’s boyfriend Jake), a trans man who ran away from home and began travelling under his late brother’s name, and Rolen Amastacia (played by Ludovik), a disgraced elven noble and holy man, were summoned from their homelands to a tavern by a mutual friend, Rockseeker. The trio received a mysterious black box from the innkeeper, and were told to deliver it to Rockseeker himself in Waterdeep. The magnificent corvette The Spirit of Fire and her crew awaited them in the harbor, ready to set sail for adventure.
While in town, Lucas met Greg, a dancer at a local bar. Greg robbed him blind and fled. Later that night, some bandits make an attempt on their lives, and were revealed to be assassins. The inn they were staying at was burnt down shortly thereafter, and Graham identified the attackers as the Sisters of the Night, a cult of ne’er do wells bent on causing chaos in Faerun. The party tracks down and captures Greg before fleeing the city on the Spirit.
On the boat, they meet Escrima (Rap), a strange young man from Calimport who was involved with a cult worshipping a lovecraftian creature known only as MOTHER. The party was attacked by some cultists, including villain apparent Sister Elsa. They defeat the attackers handily, though the sister escaped to fight another day. Lucas and Rolen (and Rich and Ludo) began to butt heads frequently, and a rivalry between the two was formed both in and out of character.
In between sessions, Jake posted on /r/transgamers to recruit players, and I joined the gang.
The gang stopped over at Lucas’ alma mater, Candlekeep, to do some research about the Sisters. While there, they ran into Constanza de Catarina (Kim), a tiefling cultist masquerading as a human noblewoman gathering information about the Sisters for her own organization, and Coy (Max), a dragonborn Big Boss expy wandering the world after the dwarven complex he called home was sacked by an angry dragon. The pair quickly hooked up with the party, comparing notes, and running errands for the locals. Along the way, Lucas and Greg formed a close emotional bond. In the countryside, the gang ran into a giant army of drow, orcs, bugbears, gnolls, and Sisters dragging an adult dragon out of its cave and loading it aboard a massive airship. 
The party eventually learned of a secret library below Candlekeep, and set about searching for it. After a dank journey through the partially submerged ruins below the academy, the gang found what they were looking for, and discovered the Sister’s master plan: resurrect their old leader, Overseer Minnia, and summon the demon god Yeenoghu into the material plane. They also found a handful of nifty magic items and a ton of funds, and promptly stole them, because adventurers are bastards.
Among the treasures was a key to a nearby portal to Sigil. Constanza, Graham, Rolen and Escrima accidentally triggered it, and were whisked off to the wild and dangerous city. They met a sapient rat hoard, known as US, and became involved with a murder mystery, meeting Narcovi, a dwarf working for Harmonnium, a guard force in the city, and eventually tracked down and nearly captured Sougad Lawshredder (known within the party as “crazy eyes”), a Believer of the Source who was trying to ascend to godhood by killing lawful folks across the outer planes. Sougad escaped, and Narcovi rewarded the party by helping them locate a portal back home.
Meanwhile, the opening of the portal triggered some sort of alarm in the Candlekeep security, and Coy and Lucas narrowly escaped through the use of a helm of teleportation and some potions of invisibility. They fled Candlekeep, sailing towards the province of Amn, where they believed their missing companions would likely turn up, if they ever did at all. Along the way, the crew encountered a band of slavers and rescued a child slave, Akim. The pair ascended a mountain outside the village of Amswater where a derelict gate was said to stand. Sure enough, the party popped out of the portal shortly after they arrived, and much rejoicing was had.
(Both of those sequences happened in separate sessions due to scheduling snafus. JP, our DM, is a fucking saint for even bothering to set up something like that)
While the gang caught up on the mountain, a company of drow, led by the Sisters sacked Amswater. The party pushed them back, and managed to rescue a couple of villagers from enslavement, though many others were killed in the battle, or carted away to the Underdark. The villagers, having nowhere else to go, boarded the Spirit of Fire with the party. Together, they stopped off at Athkatla, a nearby port city, and Constanza entrusted the refugees to the government there, explaining the situation in the countryside. This earned her the first of several legitimate noble titles that she didn't have to forge.
The adventurers set sail to Waterdeep at last. The sea voyage finally granted them some time to themselves, opportunities to get to know each other, and hone their skills. Graham and Constanza bonded over dragonchess, Escrima attempted to indoctrinate Graham into his cult, and Lucas taught Coy some minor spells in exchange for draconic lessons. Akim bonded with his savior, and essentially became Coy’s adopted child. Constanza established dominance over Escrima by cleaning his filthy ass off. Along the way, the crew captured and sort of tamed a live Wyvern, christened “Lupe,” who the adventurers tried desperately to find some use for besides venom milking.
Eventually, the gang arrived in Waterdeep and met with Rockseeker himself. The man was ostensibly a dwarf, but was quickly discovered to be something more, though the party couldn’t say exactly what. Rockseeker retrieved a parchment from the mysterious box, and explained that contained within it was a magical map that marked the locations of artifacts that could annihilate the Sisters for good... though, the map was encrypted, and the party was going to have to carry the map to Neverwinter, where a talented friend of Rockseeker’s could help them.
While in the city, the gang did much shopping and sleeping around, the latter of which clued them in on a plot to assassinate the Visible Lord of Waterdeep, John Merrow. Supposedly, the ambitious Lord Hier was planning on having him taken care of at an upcoming celebration at his estate. Coincindentally, Rockseeker had some invitations just lying around, so the party had an easy in.
However, the party was still a few days off, and the gang busied themselves with shopping and taking care of small jobs for the locals, as vagrants of their sort are want to do. They uncovered a small vampire infestation, but events conspired such that they never quite got to the bottom of it.
(Scheduling snafus raised their ugly heads again, and Rich ended up doing a solo session)
At this time, Lucas decided to go track down his old mentor from his student days, Gandalf (no relation to the lesser deity from LotR, we swear!) to see if he had any insight on the events that were unfolding, and possibly a way to get Candlekeep to forgive him for his tresspasses against them. He met up with an acquaintance from Candlekeep, Eva (played by Jake), a young lass who had at least one shrine dedicated to Lucas in her home. The two tracked down Gandalf, and, to their horror, discovered that he had become a necromancer, turning most of the town of Proskur into his thralls. The duo narrowly defeated him, though not before Gandalf murdered Eva and blasted a chunk of Lucas’ shoulder off. Eva’s soul found its way into Lucas’ body. Lucas returned to Waterdeep, thoroughly shaken. This is how JP likes to handle multiclassing, by the way.
Since Jake wasn't around to take notes for the session that weekend with the rest of the party, I ended up taking over that day. For whatever reason, Jake basically decided to let me handle the note taking thereafter, so that’s what the rest of this tale is going to look like.
I kind of have a pretty strong emotional connection to this group and campaign. They’re the first group of people I ever met who didn't previously know me as a dude or anything, and because my voice was one of the only things I’d worked on at the time, I was able to just be myself without all the other baggage for a couple hours every week. I didn't really talk about my being trans at all for quite a while, and I’ve been led to believe that I was basically stealth to them for the first couple months of play... though I eventually got more involved with the trans community on reddit, and more open about it in general.
The group was also really my first foray into the LGBT community in general. My impression of LGBT spaces and the people that inhabited them was pretty negative at the time. I just had the idea that everyone was super outgoing and boisterous theater club types, a class of person that I struggle to relate to and get along with. However these folks turned out to be pretty down to earth for the most part, and the realization that there were people like me who I could actually relate to and enjoy being around really opened my eyes.
