What Spartans Remain?
Because I went down the Halopedia rabbit hole and I'm an obsessive nut, I've put together a list of all the Spartan-IIs, just to figure out who's alive, who's dead, who's missing, and the numbers which are unaccounted for
Alright so, there were at least 150 candidates considered for Spartan-IIs, half were conscripted, and of that 75, we have at least 50 named (or at least numbered) individuals
Alive (when last we saw them):
Jai-006
Naomi-010
Leon-011
Serin-019 (washout)
Robert-025
Douglas-042
Linda-058
Maria-062 (semi-retired)
Cassandra-075 (washout)
Fhajad-084 (washout)
Kelly-087
Jerome-092
Musa-096 (washout)
August-099
Fred-104
Adriana-111
John-117 (duh)
Michael-120
Alice-130
Definitely Dead:
Li-008 (2552)
Daisy-023 (unknown date during war, 2526-2552)
Joshua-029 (2552)
Otto-031 (2557)
Samuel-034 (2525)
Randall-037 (2556)
William-043 (2552)
Anton-044 (2552)
Kurt-051 (2552)
Jorge-052 (2552)
Margaret-053 (2557)
Malcolm-059 (2552)
Sheila-065 (2544)
Solomon-069 (2544)
Spartan-073 (2525)
Arthur-079 (2544)
Grace-093 (2552)
Victor-101 (2557)
Ralph-103 (unknown date during war, 2526-2552)
Oscar-129 (2525)
Cal-141 (2544)
Roma-143 (2557)
Unidentified Trainee (2525)
Unidentified Spartan (2531)
Maybe Dead:
James-005 (2552)
Vinh-030 (2552)
Isaac-039 (2552)
Beta-Romeo Actual (2552)
Red Fifteen (2552)
Red Four (2552)
Red Nineteen (2552)
Status unknown:
Kirk-018 (washout, possibly rehabilitated)
Keiichi-047 (alive as of 2531)
Soren-066 (alive as of 2527)
Rene-081 (washout, possibly rehabilitated)
Joseph-122 (alive as of 2525)
Carris-137 (alive as of 2520)
Spartans-116, 118, 119, 121, 123, and 124 (possibly the unidentified trainee and Spartan, as well ass Beta-Romeo Actual, Red-Fifteen, Red Four, and Red Nineteen)
Missing numbers:
Spartans number 001, 002, 003, 004, 007, 009, 012, 013, 014, 015, 016, 017, 020, 021, 022, 024, 026, 027, 032, 033, 035, 036, 038, 040, 041, 045, 046, 048, 049, 050, 054, 055, 056, 057, 060, 061, 063, 064, 067, 068, 070, 071, 072, 074, 076, 077, 078, 080, 082, 083, 085, 086, 088, 089, 090, 091, 094, 097, 098 (according to the silver timeline, Spartan-098 is named "Nora"), 100, 102, 105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, 112, 113, 114, 115, 126, 127, 128, 131, 132, 133, 135, 136, 138, 139, 140, 142, 145, 146, 147, 148, 149, 150 (I'm sure I messed up somewhere)
obviously given that not all 150 candidates were recruited, some (about 70) of these numbers did not actually become Spartans, trainees or otherwise, such as Caleb-095, the father of Olympia Vale
Additionally, Spartans-028 (Riz), 125 (Kai), and 134 (Vanak) do exist per 343's internal documentation, but as of yet have not appeared in the Prime timeline
therefore there are about 19 confirmed living Spartans, 24 confirmed dead, 7 possible dead, and 12 unknowns, for a total of 62 (or 65 counting the silvers), so there are at least 10-13 other Spartans we have not met, be they active, retired, washout, dead, or missing

Spartan Saturday — Caleb-095
Born on Luyten, Caleb Aagard was identified by ONI as a Spartan-II candidate; however, he would evade capture. Changing his name, Caleb Vale became a pacifist and married Nerina Vale, who gave birth to a daughter, Olympia.
Caleb's ideology clashed with his wife's occupation in the UNSC, leading to divorce. As Nerina and Olympia travelled to Earth, their ship experienced a slipspace drive failure. Olympia suspected her father given his profession as a slipspace technician.

I finished Outcasts
Verdict:
It was pretty good, which is about what I expected.
The Good:
It was great to see Thel and Vale again, and in many ways, the book felt like catching up with friends more than it felt like a book about a superweapon threatening the galaxy, which wasn't unwelcome.
We also get nods to other plot points that almost felt like 343 was saying "No, we didn't forget about this", such as callbacks to the fact that ONI funded the Servants, and the findings on Heian, but then, there's no follow up.
I thought Thel's character was handled well, and all the things we know and love about him were on display: that he's a progressive leader, that he enjoys a healthy relationship with humanity (and Vale in particular) and that he has fully come into his role as an advocate for peace. I enjoyed riding along with him, seeing how he handled the various personalities thrown at him, from putting misogynistic kaidons in their place, grappling with the suspicious Petrov, conniving 'Ayomuu, and the fanatic 'Kvarosee. Although we don't learn anything groundbreaking, I think Thel is the star of the show, and the best parts of the book were his observations.
We also got various "status checks" of characters, such as that Rtas, Usze, Kola, and N'tho are all alive and kicking, but not much else. We see what Atriox was up to, which has implications that may or may not be moot by Infinite's timeline.
I would be interested to know when this book started development. While I understand that 343 couldn't very well completely ignore Cortana's Created timeline, I was happy to. As usual, the Guardians exist merely as a timing device: something to give the characters a sense of urgency but do not make an appearance. If development started before the plan to nuke the Guardians in Infinite, I understand why this book exists. If not, why?
I generally was enjoying the story (unpopular opinion: of the Master Chief trilogy, Oblivion was my favorite, and I actually really wanted to know what was going on with Petrov and the Covenant stragglers) until:
The Bad
Who the hell are The Nothing? What is the point of yet another ancient civilization capable of taking on the Forerunners? And why do we need both them and the Endless? I just can't reconcile this if the book was in development at the same time as Infinite. I don't mind universes that feature multiple factions with competing interests: it gives the universe a sense of scale. But what do The Nothing provide that we could not get from the Endless, or the Created, or even the Banished?
The book somehow acknowledges that there are many unexplored loose ends that the fans would like to hear more about, while opting to introduce yet another new faction.
What I thought I was going to get was a "open and shut" standalone story (or a spiritual successor to Oblivion) that would let me catch up with my favs, and in many ways that is what it is, but the ending, and the realization that we're being introduced to a new faction yet again...just, why?
The "Other"
Usze and Vale bait and switch. Usze promptly disappears from the story.
Caleb-095 is Vale's dad?? What are the implications of this??
I've mentioned this previously, but Iyuska mentions that her rival got funding for a San'Shyuum research project, and Thel mentions that Rtas is also still looking for them.......next book???

Oakland Athletics-Minnesota Twins Series Preview
6.13.24-Luis Medina RHP (0-1) 5.23 ERA Vs. Joe Ryan RHP (4-5) 3.30 ERA
6.14.24-Mitch Spence RHP (4-3) 3.68 ERA Vs. Simeon Woods Richardson RHP (2-1) 2.84 ERA
6.15.24-Joey Estes RHP (2-2) 4.78 ERA Vs. Bailey Ober RHP (5-4) 5.13 ERA
6.16.24-JP Sears LHP (4-5) 4.02 ERA Vs. Chris Paddack RHP (5-3) 4.79 ERA
The A's At A Glance- The A's have been interesting on and off the field this year. They started the year off (1-7) then got back to .500 in early-May. They lost nineteen games in May and come in having lost five straight games. Oakland is in last place of the American League West with a very young roster. Brent Rooker has found a home in Oakland. He has hit thirteen homers and knocked in forty runs. Shea Langeliers has smacked twelve homers, but is hitting .202 on the year. The A's starting staff has a 4.80 ERA, which is 26th in MLB. JP Sears and Mitch Spence have been solid starters for Oakland. The A;s bullpen is actually pretty good with a 3.50 ERA, which is seventh in baseball. Mason Miller has locked down twelve saves and has struck out fifty-five over thirty innings of work. Dany Jimenez is striking out a man per inning with a 3.05 ERA.
The Twins At A Glance- The Twins started the long homestand by taking two of three from the Rockies. They will face off with the A's in a four-game series at Target Field this weekend. The team optioned Alex Kirilloff to St. Paul and called up Austin Martin. Kirilloff was hitting .095 in June and hadn't homered since May 25th. Manny Margot has been hot with a .444 average in June. Royce Lewis is hitting .321 with four homers and seven RBI since his return from the injured list. Carlos Santana has knocked in ten runs in June. The Twins starting staff has a 4.51 ERA, which is 23rd in baseball. Joe Ryan and Simeon Woods Richardson have led the way for starters. Caleb Thielbar has been awful latey. He's allowed nine runs in three innings in June. He hasn't been as sharp with his control. Josh Staumont has thrown thirteen scoreless innings to start his Twins tenure. Brock Stewart threw pitches off the mound on Wednesday as he slowly works his way back from the injured list.
What To Watch For- The Twins won five of six games against the A's in 2023. The Twins took two of three from Oakland at Target Field last September. Luis Medina threw six innings and allowed a run in his lone start against the Twins. Joe Ryan went 5 1/3 innings and allowed three runs in his only start against the A's. Mitch Spence and Simeon Woods Richardson have not faced their opponent before. Joey Estes threw 5 1/3 innings and gave up three runs last September against the Twins. Bailey Ober threw five shutout innings in his only start against the Athletics. JP Sears went 6 1/3 innings and gave up three runs in his only start facing the Twins. Chris Paddack is (1-1) with a 7.80 ERA in four games against the A's. The Twins get to face off against a bad team and get some momentum back on their season.
