One thing about Caitlin Clark that I’m appreciative of is how adamant she is about Maya Moore being her idol and favorite basketball player growing up. Could have been Lebron, Steph, Kobe, or whoever but it was always Maya for her.
That might not seem like a big deal, but oftentimes when we gain things we lose appreciation for those who came before us who struggled so we could have what we have right now. Caitlin came into the WNBA with more hype and recognition that anyone ever, and she’s giving her flowers to Moore — who is maybe the greatest of all-time but never got what she fully deserved. I bet a lot of new fans who came to the WNBA for Caitlin learned a lot about Moore and paid respect to her legacy because of their connection.
I’m sure this wasn’t intentional, but it was also a big f-you to those racists who latch onto Caitlin to downplay the rest of the WNBA, given that her idol is a black woman who helped pave the way for the leagues growth
Obviously Moore has and should be getting her flowers for being the GOAT regardless of Caitlin’s opinions, but I just think it’s really nice. It’s so important for female athletes to continue being inspirations for other female athletes, given how so many young women right now don’t have female role models

yall don't really think that caitlin clark gets hate because of RACISM right.
did you guys know that breanna stewart (white) won mvp last year.
did you guys know that sabrina ionescu (white) and breanna stewart (white) are two of the only wnba players to have signature shoes.
did you guys know that theresa plaisance (white) isnt even IN the wnba anymore and still has more commercial deals than most players in the league. (i could make that point about sue bird as well but she's like an icon of the league. no offense theresa plaisance i respect your game but you are not an icon of the league)
do you guys know what racism MEANS. do you know the difference between the words "racism" and "prejudice" and "bias." i teach this stuff to 5th graders as a job i can pull out the slideshow if yall need me to
