It was his fault, his weakness that had made a chink in Vortex's perverbial armor. He was only human, with human needs like sleep, food, and water. So it was his fault that Vortex had revealed his true existence to Shockwave.
Vortex never had any issues killing his other pilots. With killing in general, actually. Firstaid had always assumed that if necessary, Vortex would let him die and go back to his old routine of chewing up pilots.
Sure, he'd (somehow??) befriended the murderous, haunted mech. And sure, they'd gotten… close. Firstaid had felt closer to the mech than he had to any human. Vortex understood him, the real him, the him that he couldn't show other humans. No, they wouldn't have accepted the real Firstaid. But Vortex did.
His heart had raced with excitement at each offered vertebrae, visera still hanging to the alien specimens. Vortex had slowed his dissections of the Quintessens so that every parting strand of muscle had left Firstaid exquisitely breathless, trembling in anticipation of what lay beneath. Vortex had somehow known and understood exactly what Firstaid had desired.
Their relationship, if you could call it that, had always seemed so one-sided. So Firstaid had always just assumed he was the one who needed Vortex, not the other way around.
Firstaid stumbled into the main hanger of the experimental wing. Shockwave's personal playground. He had to be keeping Vortex here, there wasn't anywhere else large enough for the mech. His body ached with bruises and he clutched at his left arm to apply pressure to a cut. The lights in the hanger flickered on, sensing his motion.
Vortex was standing on a platform with cables hooked into his frame. Some attached to the limbs, but most were attached to his and the cockpit where the primary processing power was located.
“Still in one piece.” Firstaid muttered as he ran to the metal stairs that went up to a catwalk. He'd gotten into better shape since he started “piloting” Vortex. He wasn't even panting by the time he'd reached the top. Vortex's cockpit was open, gaping like a screaming mouth. Once it had filled Firstaid with fear and trepidation. Now it gave him relief and anticipation.
Firstaid climbed into the cockpit and began unhooking some of the cables that had been hooked up inside the mech, kicking the discarded cords out past Vortex's visor.
“Come on. Wake up, Vortex. We gotta get out of here.” Firstaid wasn't sure where they would go yet, but they couldn't stay here. Shockwave was going to take Vortex apart. The mech was a “step along the path to the true symbiosis of man and machine” or something like that. Firstaid had been too horrified to pay that much attention, but he knew that Shockwave wanted to become a fully independent mech. The man was crazy, which was saying something coming from Firstaid.
Vortex's frame powered up with a rumble and the blood red visor closed with a hiss. Firstaid threw himself down into the pilot's seat, carefully not touching the controls. He did not want to piss off Vortex anymore than he already would be.
[Get out. Get out get out get out get-]
“Yes, we have to get out of here.” Firstaid's words trailed off as more words appeared on the screen.
[I did not expect you to interrupt us, Firstaid.]
“Us?”
[Get out get out get out get out-]
Vortex's frame shook and sparks rained down from above Firstaid. The controls shook as though fighting themselves. Vortex took a single, jerky step forward. It was nothing like the fluid motion that Firstaid had come to expect.
[Though this is a rather pleasant surprise. It would seem we still need a pilot to activate our systems. You'll do quite nicely, since Vortex is so interested in keeping you alive.]
[Get out get out get out-]
“Sh-Shockwave?!”
[Yes. Now, let's take this for a little test run, shall we?]
[Get out get out get out, Firstaid!]

|You will always be mine ~ Lee Minho series|
PART 17
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Paring: Minho x Y/N
Genre: smut, angst, university au
Word count: 1041
Warnings: sex, 18+, Minho is a psycho, dom!Minho, sub!reader, abuse, slight BDSM, kidnapping, violence, age gap, Minho is an university professor, Y/N can be hurt physically (and mentally too I guess).
Synopsis: Who knew that accidental fuck in the club bathroom with a handsome man will bring you to a lot of unexpected events.
Author's note: I kept this series for a really long time not sure if I want to post it or not, but I decided to do it anyway, so I hope you'll like it.
——————————
The pattern from the previous day repeated itself for the next week. Minho left for work every morning, left you breakfast and came back late in the evening. In the meantime, you watched TV or read books from the man's library. You had nothing better to do. You knew that you couldn't wait forever for the police to find you.
A lot of time had passed since the announcement on the news, but no one had found you yet. No one had come for you. You didn't try to escape yourself either, full of hope that someone would find you in a moment. Time was dragging on for you.
Finally, one day you decided that you couldn't wait any longer, that you had to take action. You waited thirty minutes after Minho left and started to wander around the house. You knew that the man had cameras in every room, so you were very careful. You guessed that the room with the main electronics had to be in the office - which you weren't allowed to enter.
However, you didn't give up and using chopsticks and a knife, you got into the locked room. Minho's office was spacious, in the middle stood a huge, mahogany desk made of hardwood. Behind the desk was a deep leather armchair and a row of shelves with books and other documents. If only you had time, you would gladly look through what Minho had in his collection.
You looked around the room, looking for something that could lead you to the place where all the cables from the cameras were located. You didn't think about one thing - Minho had an alarm installed and the moment you entered the office, he immediately received a notification on his phone. While you were busy looking through the room, the man had already turned back home and stood in the doorframe of the office. You didn't even notice him. And he was leaning against the doorframe, with his arms folded across his chest and watching you with a cat's gaze.
Fortunately, he didn't go far and thanks to that he was able to return home so quickly. You seemed to finally sense his presence, because you straightened up like a string and very slowly turned towards him. All red in the face and scared, you finally spoke up.
“M-Minho… are you back already? Quick…” You said quietly and swallowed.
“Don’t act stupid Y/N.” He growled a bit harsher than he intended, but it was your own fault. “Why did you break the ban, hm?”
“I… ahem… this one…” You started hesitantly.
“You wanted to run away, right? You were looking for a place where you could cut off the cameras.” With each word he was getting closer to you, until he finally forced you to lean against the dark desk. He stood between your legs and suddenly sat you down on it. “I knew I couldn’t trust you… You wanted to leave me, right?”
“What? No Minho, it’s not like that… I…”
“Don’t act stupid.” He repeated firmly. “We both know the truth perfectly well… Tell me Y/N, what should I do with you now, huh?” He tilted his head, watching you fight with yourself not to cry. You were afraid of him, but he was okay with that.
“M-Minho, it's not like that, I swear!” You squealed when Minho dug his long fingers into your thigh. “Please.” Tears began to form in your eyes. “I won't do it again, I promise.”
“Mhm, you're right, you won't.” Minho replied and picked you up roughly and then moved you to the leather couch that was standing on the opposite side of the desk. “I'll tell you what happens now.” He started, laying you down on the couch. “As we know, I have to work. But as we also know, you can't be left alone, out of sight for a moment. So we'll do this.” He took off his belt and leaned over you. “I'll tie you up in a very uncomfortable position and leave you like that until I come back. What do you think? Don't be afraid, you won't get bored. I have something else in store.”
“N-no, Minho, please!” Scared, you barely managed to stutter out. “Please, I will do anything you want.”
“I have no doubts about that, my love.” He sneered. “It's obvious that you will do anything. Remember my words Y/N. You will never leave me again.” Saying this, he tied your hands behind your back with a belt, which he then attached to the couch. He did it in a way to keep you as immobile as possible. “Oh, perfect.” He smiled smugly.
“Minho, please.” You started, but you weren't allowed to finish. Minho ignored your pleas. He pulled a gag out of the drawer next to you and covered your mouth. Then he leaned over you and stimulated your clit, previously sliding your lower part of the wardrobe off it.
“Oh, I guess you're ready.” He smiled to then insert a small vibrator into you, which was controlled remotely. Thanks to this, he could tease you while he was at work. “Perfect.” He said and took a few pictures of you, then activated the device using his phone.
Sudden vibrations echoed inside you. You shifted slightly on the couch and made a small sound, stifled by the gag. Minho watched your reactions as he played with the intensity of the vibrations. He liked the sight.
Satisfied with himself, he walked over to the shelf opposite you. He positioned the camera that was connected to his phone in view so that he could see you in all your glory.
"Well, now I can leave you." He said calmly. "Don't worry, kitten, I'll be back with you soon." He placed a kiss on your cheek and left the office, leaving you alone.
The vibrations stopped for a moment, giving you a moment to control your breathing. However, after a moment they turned on again, but this time they were stronger. Minho played with you, bringing you to the edge, but he didn't let you orgasm. This was your punishment.
He was gone for a moment, but for you this moment lasted an eternity.

“In five minutes, all bets are off.”
since at least choir’s worth of people wanted it, we’re making the au !! hooray !! also based off of this one shot about perfect dolls so go check that out!! (link is at the bottom)
This is part 1 for everyone who wanted it :3
TLDR: ocean takes too long to vote and karnak fucking dies.
warnings: written by a bored teenager so it’s probably not the best, cursing, it’s rtc what do you expect
~~~~~~~~~~~~
“In five minutes, all bets are off.”
That is what Karnak is telling Ocean O’Connell Rosenberg, the most successful girl in town. After five minutes, a rat that Karnak has named Virgil will chew through Karnak’s power cable and kill them both. He, Karnak, had said this before bringing the dead teenagers to this afterlife before the real afterlife
“What happens in five minutes?”
Ocean O’Connell Rosenberg asks this, afraid of what could happen if she ends up not making the deadline and thinking too long about who should win. Originally, she would vote herself and be brought back, but she has now realized that she, along with all of her friends, deserved to live.
“An appointment with a rat named Virgil, and then my death. After that, I’m not quite sure.”
Even with this machine’s fortune telling abilities, he can’t tell the future of anything past his demise. What if people would live past him? Could he not tell their fortune?
“Um.. and if I pick myself what’s the moral? If I choose myself… if I choose myself, the moral of the story is that humans suck.”
Ocean was earlier chosen to select the winner of the grand prize, being revived, due to having the highest grade point average in the choir. Even with being the one to select the winner, she will not choose herself. She never could bring herself to.
“That would be a valid interpretation, yes.”
Karnak, being the monotone fool of a fortune telling machine he is, saying something that many have laughed at when watching this show live. Although here, this is not a show.
“No, no we are going to honor the original agreement. We all are going to vote on who comes back.”
As the stubborn girl protests, Karnak shows the choir the portal to leave to the other side. The other children watch in awe as Ocean looks closely.
Karnak tries to remind ocean that she doesn’t have forever to decide. She is about to yell at him to leave her alone to think for five seconds, before the machine blows up.
“Your lucky number is seven. You will soar to great heights. Make sure to ride the cyclone.”
As Karnak loses power and his magical ball goes out, all the lights go out and the legendary portal to living breaks. It broke?! It fucking broke?!
Ocean runs to the wall where the portal used to be located and begins to bang on the wall. The other choir members follow after her and look horrified. None of them will get a chance at life? Never?
“No! Wait! Please!”
Ocean begins to panic. The potential she once ever had gone now. No one gets a second chance at life.
And none of them will get the chance at heaven or hell.
This realization sends all of the choir members into a panic. Noel Gruber, already hating Ocean, groans loudly and puts his hands to his head.
“Now look what you’ve done, Satan, now we’re stuck here forever!”
Ocean tries to defend herself, but it is quite literally her fault. She was the one chosen to select the winner, she was the one who wasted all of the time. No one else here did.
“Look, I’m sorry, okay? I didn’t realize that we had 5 SECONDS instead of MINUTES!”
Ocean says that with the sarcasm she’s always had, but she’s changed a lot. She has changed so much since coming to this afterlife. So had everyone else
But any change that they make won’t matter anymore. No effect they have will impact the world they once lived in. This is the beginning of eternity.
~~~~~~~
hai :3 hope u guys like this ! please note this is like the first writing I’ve done that’s been published for the world to see so it’s probably really bad and any criticism is welcome ! first part, kinda sad or tragic, but the other parts WILL include these silly goobers goofing off.
here’s the link to the AO3 perfectdolls one shot that inspired this so credits to that author for the idea!!

hi bread! I'm here to ask about the Magnetic Horrors of electrical engineering
yayyyyyy! im taking a nec code class and i had to learn about this and now so do All of You!
youtube
this is the full video but im going to take some strategic screenshots
Tumblr media
these are three cables that are being bound to a tray by cable ties. we do this for certain applications like a bunch of power all going to a single location. my job prefers to put this all in conduit (ridged tubes that contain the horrors) so that shit like this doesn't happen.
what shit you ask? well....
Tumblr media
a fault (in this case a short circuit, ie the electricity now has a Very quick path to ground, like a lightning strike) occurs in the cable, and like a dam breaking there is now a LOT of electricity with nothing holding it back
Tumblr media
im stealing this from google dot gov but this is a wire carrying electrical current (current in this case means the same thing as a water current, it is a strong flow in a single direction) along its length. as you can see magnetic fields propagate out perpendicular to the path of electricity this makes basically tree rings at all points along the wire
the magnetic field of the wire is directly proportional to the flow of current, so when the current suddenly breaks free of the circuit and rushes through the cable all at once, there is suddenly a Huge spike in magnetic field
now why do they explode apart like that?
actually to show how they want to play no touching here is another still of that video
Tumblr media
so you see how the cable separate anywhere they're able to? for the visually un-inclined, the picture above has the cables bound by very strong metal cleats, they have bulged outwards away from each other in the places they aren't bound. Kinda the same way a rubber band reacts if you pinch it on two sides and bring your hands together.
so to explain that im going to do a QUICK dive into electrical distribution
Tumblr media
look at this graph cool? cool. so basically in order to reduce return current on the neutral (what goes in must come out, this is the law of energy) if all the legs are balanced the neutral current is zero (0) because the waves all cancel each other out, if you remember physics you probably know what i mean, if you don't look up "destructive interference" its SO cool.
so because the electrical current is just tilted Slightly away from each other the cables are desperate to get away from each other, and so they explode outward with literally thousands of newtons of force.
if you compare the little star shaped phase diagram from the picture above with the picture of the cleat enclosed cables after the fault, you'll notice that they are following the same shape! this is because the magnetic field is following the shape of the current flow and makes a triangle!!
if you are ever in a place where a fault occurs 1) run but also 2) you can literally hear these whip around in their enclosure, even if they're held snug in conduit
this is my nightmare now, come back for more electricity related nightmares! misery and company etc.

prompt: Bonnie treats Kitt3 right
Some discretion was taken with this. Mostly the ABS and such-- gotta assume that KITT and KI3T have the whole nightmare, even in the 80s. Bonnie isn't too flabbergasted by the tech because KITT is, as they say, the car of the future.
"KITT, turn your wheel all the way to the right, please."
KITT-- Three Thousand-- turns his wheel all the way to the right. Immediately, hands are all over his frame again, untangling the brake line from the wheel hub assembly. He uses a portion of his sophisticated sensory suite to watch Bonnie work, even as her face screws up in consternation, her most common expression since beginning maintenance.
And what maintenance it is! She's propped him up on jackstands and wooden blocks. It is a far cry from the gyroscopic, laser-equipped armory he's used to. It gives him time to reflect on what he considers normal. As it turns out, if a human is involved with his care, it is through a laptop.
But laptops do not exist here. And this time, his failure is... physical.
"You seem perturbed, Dr. Barstow," he says quietly.
Bonnie's face scrunches up. She fusses at the knot of sensors dangling from his front left wheel. With him unable to power down, it is a mess of data, all of it erroneous. But--
Not unwelcome.
"Not-- perturbed, KITT," she says, echoing him. "Just can't make heads or tails of what's going on here. Pretty sure it's not supposed to look like this, though. Is it?"
She brandishes some of the cables underneath his chassis. A curious location, but not useless. And it seems practiced, or at least embedded in muscle memory, as her shoulders drop several inches. Confusion is always so fascinating on humans. It's enough to soothe his irritation at his fouled eyes; the plastic sheathing has melted together.
"No, it is not. It appears I have melted the bulk of my wheel speed sensors on this side."
His fault. The 1974 Mustang II form he'd adopted had been, as Mike would say, slapped together. And consolidating all of his functions into such a tight package was, ah.
Not what he was designed to do.
Bonnie brushes her fingers across a piece of his subframe. It shouldn't feel like anything, but the nanoskin is more sensitive than usual like this. And it's a wholly novel experience. Humans do not touch him often.
It is... undeniably a positive impact.
Eventually, she pushes herself up to a standing position, silent.
KITT watches her raptly.
"Want me to see if any of, uh, KITT's parts will fit?" Bonnie asks finally. Once again, she seems 'put out', clearly trying to come up with a solution and finding none.
"I do not wish to impose. If my databanks are correct, replacement parts for my predecessor were... expensive. Nearly a quarter of the Foundation's budg--"
Her face goes gray. Wisely, he ceases speaking, because he likes her. If it'd been anyone else...
"Don't remind me. Jesus. Okay. Look, let me just see if they'll fit, okay?"
"Of course," KITT says. "I am not going anywhere."
Bonnie laughs and ducks out of the trailer. His analyzer reads it as 'slightly hysterical.' Perhaps the circumstances are painful for both of them.

The Atoms of Us (An Infinity Particle Fanfic)
Summary: Three days after the showdown with Dr. Lin, Clem and Kye are figuring out what the future holds for both of them. Whatever it holds, they'll be facing it together.
Rating: K

Author's Note: I just read The Infinity Particle about a week ago and fell in love. I was heartbroken that there was no fanfiction for this beautiful book, so I knew I had to rectify it by writing my own. I hope this is the first of many to follow by others who discover Wendy Xu's lovely story.
--------------------------------------
"Hey girl, later." Nadiya turned and waved on her way out the door, Cheshire clutched in her arms. The robot cat scowled and shoved a final piece of cardboard packaging into his mouth as the door shut.
Clementine did one last sweep of the shop, straightening tools, neatly stacking silicate discs, and putting away jars of nanomachine paint in the overnight cabinet. When she finished, the workshop was still cluttered, but there was something comforting about it all the same. Everything to help each robot who came here become whole and return to their human companion healthy again. Clem did one last check then swiped her wristband to clock out. Grabbing her satchel, she took off down University Street towards home, SENA riding on her shoulder as usual.
They caught the cable car heading upwards towards the residence sector. Clem leaned against the window, looking out at the reddish-brown rooftops as the car carried them upwards through Tithonium. Distractedly, she reached into her pocket then adjusted her satchel. A few seconds later she ran her fingers through her messy strawberry red hair and adjusted her satchel again.
"Nervous?" SENA chirped in her sweet little voice.
Clem immediately dropped her hands. "No," she said a little too quickly.
SENA fluttered down to land in Clem's lap. She folded her stubby arms. "You never fidget like that unless you're nervous."
Clem sighed as she caught herself trying to adjust her satchel yet again. "OK, yeah. I'm nervous. A little bit."
SENA blinked. "Why?"
Clem rubbed a hand through her hair, tangling it even further. "I dunno."
"Kye's been living with us for the past three days," SENA pointed out. "You exist around him just fine at our apartment. Why would it be any different to exist around him in a different location?
Robot logic. Impossible to argue with. Clem shook her head. "I dunno, it's just different. You wouldn't understand."
SENA fluttered her brown- and white-spotted wings. "It's not my fault you didn't program it into me then."
Clem booped her little build on the nose. "I don't remember programming that sort of sass into you either."
SENA sniffed. "I've had no problem picking that up from you, Nadiya, and Mykael on my own, thank you. Robots learn, remember?"
How could she forget? Robots had been her life since she was little. But even that couldn't have prepared her for all the events that had unfolded in the last week and a half since she'd arrived on Mars. Distracted, she went back to staring out the window. But now, instead of rooftops, she saw dark, soulful eyes gazing tenderly back at her…
"Clem? Clem!" SENA fluttered her wings in Clem's face. "It's our stop."
"Right!" Clem grabbed her satchel and stepped out onto the station platform, then jogged up the flights of stairs leading to her apartment.
Kye was in the kitchenette, trimming dead fronds off one of his beloved plants when Clem and SENA opened the door. As they entered, he lowered his sheers, a little smile brightening his face. He met Clem's eyes and she blushed. "Hey," he said gently.
"Hey," she responded. She gestured awkwardly upwards. "Um, just let me get changed and I'll be ready."
She darted up the stairs to her bedroom loft, where she tossed aside her dusty and oil-stained trousers and changed into a billowy pair of pants and a loose, comfy shirt. She hurriedly ran a comb through her hair, trying to tame the wild tangles, then took a deep breath, facing the wall. Slowly she turned and descended the stairs.
Kye was kneeling in front of their table, a Welcome to Tithonium pamphlet and map laid out in front of him. He was wearing an ankle-length, soft blue robe tied at his waist with his brown jacket over the top and his long hair pulled back in its usual ponytail. Clem plopped onto her cushion across from him. "Made a decision yet?"
Kye frowned thoughtfully. "There are more choices than I realized. Do you have a suggestion?"
Clem scooted the map over to her side. "Let's see. Nadiya mentioned that Masala Corner is really good. Hmm, Valles Café, that's down by the University, right? Oo, Mars Casa. Ever had Mexican before, Kye? …Kye?"
The android seemed to shrink in upon himself, his smile faltering, his shoulders dropping. Even his beautiful hair seemed to wilt. "Maybe…maybe not that one," he said quietly, and Clem would have almost sworn he sounded apologetic.
He looked up to find Clem looking at him with concern. He smiled a little, his dark eyes soft. "I'm okay," he answered her silent question. "It's just…" He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. "Mother took me there, years ago. I hadn't been activated very long. She ordered a plate of arroz rojo, and I was so fascinated that I asked if I could order something too." He glanced away, down at the table. "She scolded me – yelled at me really – told me I was selfish to make other people work to fix food and clean up after me for something that I couldn't even enjoy." He shrugged, a sad, defeated gesture. "I never asked Mother for food again after that."
Clem reached across the table and gently laid her hand on the back of his. The round sensor panels on the back of his knuckles were smooth and slightly cooler than his skin. "You're not selfish," she said with conviction. "You're allowed to want things, just like any human."
He looked up at her, soft gratitude and fondness on his face. "You make it easier for me to remember that, Clem."
She blushed and glanced down, letting her hair fall in her face to hide the glow of her cheeks. "Just being a decent person isn't something to be proud of."
He turned his hand over, so he could twine his fingers with hers. "No, but I'm still grateful all the same." He reached up and ran the fingers of his free hand through her curls, smiling affectionately. "You know what I want right now?"
Clem flushed deeper, enjoying the feel of his delicate fingertips brushing her cheek. "What?"
He grinned. "For us to have an amazing first date!"
She giggled. "That sounds like an amazing thing to want."
He squeezed her hand. "Then let's both stop overthinking it and choose the first place that sounds nice."
They returned their attention to the map and almost immediately Clem pointed excitedly. "There! Don't you think that would be perfect?"
Kye looked at where she was pointing. "Arbor Bistro," he read.
"It's right by the park. I bet it's got a lovely view of the walkway." Clem paused. "Unless you have any negative experiences with it…"
Kye grasped her hand again, this time more firmly. "No. No, it sounds perfect."
Clem tried not to grin like an idiot and wasn't entirely successful. So this was it! Her first date with Kye. And Kye's first real meal after finally being able to smell and taste!
They headed to the door. "SENA?" Clem called out. "You coming?"
The little moth robot fluttered down to hover between the two of them. "I'm going to have a night in. I think this outing needs to be just you and Kye."
Clem felt a moment of something almost like panic. SENA was always with her. The thought of not having those comforting little feet clinging to her shoulder or the brush of velvety wings against the back of her neck made her feel uncomfortably vulnerable.
SENA must have sensed Clem's discomfort, which wasn't surprising since that was part of her core programming. She landed on Clem's hand. "I'll be here when you get back. And I think you'll still have a perfectly good robot to keep an eye on you."
She made a tiny face. "Plus I won't have to look away every time you and Kye make kissy faces at each other."
Kye gently put an arm around her shoulders. "She's right, Clem. You're not alone anymore. Neither of us are."
Clem put her arm around Kye's waist and leaned into him a little. "I know." She smiled at SENA. "Looks like the apartment's yours for the evening."
SENA made a little humming sound. "Enjoy your evening out together."
Clem and Kye headed out onto the narrow street between the rows of apartments. Clem's building was about halfway up the canyon wall, affording a lovely view of Tithonium spread out beneath them. Above them, the biodome glowed a faint blue, contrasting against the dusty red all around them.
They linked hands as they made their way to the cable car and descended. As usual, Kye got some curious looks from the other passengers in the car, and one woman holding a cute rabbit-like bot in her arms asked Clem if he was her build. Clem just shook her head. "No, he belongs to himself," she answered firmly. Kye wasn't looking at her, but she saw the corner of his lips twitch upward anyway.
The rest of the trip to Arbor Bistro was uneventful, at least in conventional terms, but inside Clem was just about bursting with excitement. The whirlwind of events over the last several weeks had been adrenaline-inducing, but it had also left her with the distinct disappointment of just how little time she'd been able to spend simply getting to know Kye, without the pressure of solving the mystery of his glitch in the forefront of both their minds. Now, with his glitch fixed and his living situation vastly improved, Clem was beyond eager to get to know the cute, sweet android for whom she'd fallen so hard.
As it turned out, Clem couldn't have imagined a better location than Arbor Bistro for their first date. The moment both of them walked in, Kye made a soft sound and Clem looked up at him to find him gazing about in gentle awe.
The walls were painted with large murals of Earth's forests: tall trees with glimpses of mountains beyond and woodland animals peering at them from under the tree shade. Several live potted plants that Clem was sure Kye would know all the names of were placed tastefully around the cozy restaurant. Windows lined one side of the room, affording a beautiful view out into Valles Park, and soft piano music played in the background. The atmosphere was peaceful and welcoming.
Clem and Kye seated themselves at a booth by a window where they could look out at the street and the tree-lined park walkway. An interactive hologram menu in the middle of the table glowed red as they sat down. They swiped through the menu, chatting occasionally about the options, then Clem tapped the order button when they were both ready.
A robot waiter rolled up to their table to take their orders. She was humanoid, though not like Kye of course, with a large round head, a flat panel face with large digital eyes, and wheels instead of feet. "Hello, my name is Veronica," she said in a tinny voice. "What would you like to order today?" she addressed Clem.
"I'll take the soup salad sandwich combo, Veronica," Clem replied. "I'll try the broccoli cheese soup, the house salad, and the swiss roast beef panini. And just water to drink, thank you."
"Very good." Veronica's digital eyes blinked in and out several times as she downloaded the order file. "That will be ready for you in a few minutes."
"Excuse me." Kye sounded nervous. "I'd like to get something too."
If Veronica was surprised (if surprise was even part of her programming), she didn't show it. She pivoted to face him. "Yes, sir, what would you like?"
Her nonjudgmental response seemed to embolden Kye. He sat up a little straighter. "Um, I'll take the combo too. Tomato soup, house salad, and grilled cheese sandwich, please. And I'll try a lemonade."
Veronica rolled off with their orders, leaving Clem and Kye alone at their table again. For some reason, all Clem's bursting energy had transformed back into nerves again. They met each other's eyes and quickly looked away, Clem staring down at the table and Kye scratching the back of his neck shyly.
"So…how was your day at the shop?" Kye finally asked.
Clem fiddled with a napkin. "Nothing out of the ordinary. Quite a few pick-ups and there was one sweet little bird robot with a broken voice simulator. We had to replace the simulator unit, but once we brought her back online she was singing just like new." She didn't mention the little girl who had brought her in, crying that her companion was "hurt" and who had insisted on staying during the entire replacement procedure. They technically had a drop-off only policy, but Nadiya had taken one look at Clem's face and had gently scooped the bird out of the crying girl's hands, reassuring her that they'd have her friend fixed in no time. Once, not long ago, Clem had dreamed of going into artificial intelligence studies to be like Dr. Lin: a pioneer and cutting-edge scientist. But now, more so than ever, Clem was realizing that it was moments like these that made her career matter. Not the grand moments, but the little ones that made all the difference to the right person.
She looked up to find Kye watching her with compassion in his deep, dark eyes, as if he had guessed some of what she was thinking. At the very least, she suspected that his empathetic programming allowed him to perceive her mood. "How about you?" she asked. "How did your visit with Dr. Han go?"
Kye's expression turned pensive. "She ran a comprehensive diagnostic of all my systems. She seemed pleased with the results."
"Were you pleased with the results?"
Kye's smile was melancholy. "I'm grateful to no longer be glitching and to have my systems functioning perfectly again. But there was no longer any trace of whatever part of my code showed itself to me as the child. The child who was a part of me ever since my first codes were written. In a way, I feel even lonelier now."
"Did you have Dr. Han look at your encryptions?" Clem asked. Kye nodded. "Yes. It's extensive, but Dr. Han believes with enough time that she can bypass the encryptions and allow me to interface with my fellow AI."
"Is that what you want?"
Kye gently stroked his fingertips back and forth over the smooth table surface. "I'm not sure. I've been alone for so long that I'm confused about what my life should look like now. But I think I'd like to have the option."
He continued to stare downward. The faint lines of circuitry just underneath the skin of his cheeks glowed with blue lights racing back and forth, the way they always did when he was processing or experiencing a particularly strong emotion.
Clem reached across the table and laid her fingertips next to his. "Are you doing okay?"
He was silent for a moment. "I miss her. A lot. I guess that's pretty weird, huh?"
In Clem's mind, she saw herself sitting in the seat for her interplanetary flight, her ticket to Mars clutched tight in white-knuckled fingers, her face turned to the window as tears streamed silently down her cheeks. She hooked her fingers around Kye's. "No, it's not weird," she said softly. "I get it."
Kye looked up at her, his eyes locking to hers, and his beautiful face was softer than anything else she could imagine at the moment. His eyes were as dark and deep as outer space.
At that moment, Veronica wheeled over with their food, and Kye's attention turned down to the plate and bowl in front of him. His eyes went wide and he took in a deep breath. "Clem!" he exclaimed. "It smells…so nice!"
"As nice as my hair?" Clem teased.
Kye however seemed to consider her question. "There's a qualitative difference between the two so I don't know if I can properly compare them. The smell of your freshly washed hair is…light, but there is a deepness to this smell." He shook his head. "I'm afraid I don't have the vocabulary yet to describe it."
"Well if you think it smells nice, just wait until you taste it," Clem said.
Kye lifted his sandwich carefully. Cheese oozed liberally out onto his fingers as he took a delicate bite. A moment later, his eyes went wide and the blue circuitry raced across his cheeks. He chewed slowly then swallowed. "It's delicious!" he exclaimed in delight.
"Try dipping it in your soup." Clem demonstrated with her own sandwich.
Kye mimicked her, dipping the corner of his sandwich into his bowl and bringing it back up dripping red. He took a bite out of it and closed his eyes. For a moment, the only sound that came from him was a low hum, more mechanical than human, but Clem hoped it had the same meaning as such a sound would have from an organic being.
The android's eyes snapped back open and a beaming smile cut across his face. "It's fantastic." He shook his head in wonderment. "It's amazing how the flavoring of the soup, instead of masking the taste of the sandwich, instead enhances it. I've wished for years that I could taste and never thought I would. It's so much better than I ever thought it would be."
For the next several minutes, they both dug into their food heartily.
Kye sampled his salad and his blue processing lights flashed back on. He frowned in concentration, then used his fork to sort through the salad until he found a green chunk of cucumber. Gingerly, he popped it in his mouth and made a face. "I don't think I like that one," he said. He sampled another. "Yeah, I don't care for that," he confirmed. He fished around with his fork and took another bite of salad. "I love the tomatoes though. They're sweeter than I always imagined they'd be." He brightened. "Do you think I'd be able to grow my own tomatoes at your apartment?"
"I think the front window gets enough sunlight that you'd be able to get them to grow," Clem said. "And it's your apartment too now. As long as you choose to stay."
Kye looked slightly abashed. "I'm not used to anything being mine. Even the plants were all gifts from Mother."
Clem watched Kye with gentle concern. The few times that he'd mentioned Dr. Lin in the past three days had seemed difficult for him and to weigh heavily on his heart. Clem could guess a little of what he was feeling. Dr. Lin had been Kye's life up until now: his creator, his caretaker, his teacher. Clem could only imagine how jarring it must have been for Kye to be faced with the naked truth that his mother would rather see him obliterated than living as an individual. Clem's stomach knotted up as she remembered just how close Kye had come to having his existence wiped completely away.
A small tear slid down his cheek and plopped onto the front of his jacket, so quickly that if Clem hadn't been watching she would have missed it. She wondered if she should mention that she'd heard him last night: soft sobs drifting up from down below when she'd woken briefly in the middle of the night. It broke her heart to know he was hurting.
She bumped her foot up against his under the table and he looked up at her. Their eyes met and a silent understanding passed between them that no words would have been able to elucidate. A quiet companionship hung in the air between them.
Clem decided to lighten the mood after a minute. She tore a chunk off her panini. "Here, Kye, want to try mine?"
Kye took it from her fingers and popped it in his mouth. "Hmm, good, but I still think mine is better." He tore a chunk off his grilled cheese and leaned across the table to pop it into her mouth.
"Now try my soup!" Clem giggled around the grilled cheese.
Kye was giggling too as he fed her a spoonful of his tomato soup.
"And I'll take all your cucumbers in exchange for my tomatoes," Clem bargained.
They exchanged vegetables. The mood between them had brightened as the nerves and awkwardness dissolved into the giddy playfulness of young love. They laughed as Kye bit into an extra-large tomato, squirting himself in the face with juice, and Clem leaned all the way across the table to wipe a spot off his cheek with her napkin. She watched as he finished off his salad, his excitement wonderfully childlike. Being around him woke something playful and curious in her that she hadn't felt in a long, long time, like a childhood glimpsed in a far off dream.
Before long, nothing was left of their meal except soup stains around the rim of their bowls and bread crumbs on their plates. Across the street, the park was now covered in shadows and the lamps lining the walkway were coming on. Everything was cast in the reddish glow of a Mars evening. Clem grabbed his hand. "Want to go for a walk?"
Valles Park was mostly deserted as they strolled down the walkway. The biodome regulated the temperature, keeping it warm enough for the humans of Tithonium to live comfortably, but there was still a noticeable drop as the sun disappeared beyond the craggy red rim of Valles Marinaris's towering walls. Clem shivered slightly, and Kye glanced down at her. Without a word, he slipped off his jacket and draped it over her shoulders. She smiled at him and he smiled gently back.
At the center of the park, there was a gigantic circular mosaic of the solar system, ringed with benches and trees. The artificial wind blew gently through the treetops, causing them to rustle softly in the dark. Kye and Clem sat down together.
Clem gave Kye a shy sideways glance then scooted over a little closer to him until her hip bumped against his. She felt him look down at her as she laid her head on his shoulder. He slipped an arm around her shoulders, holding her closer to himself, then he leaned over a little to kiss the top of her head. His long hair brushed softly against her cheek.
"Clem?" he asked after a moment.
"Yeah?"
"I'm really glad you came to Mars."
She snuggled closer to him. "So am I."
"Was it scary? Leaving everything you'd ever known behind."
Clem considered his question briefly. "Yeah, it was really scary. It felt like diving into a big black hole, and I had no idea where I'd land. I mean, I'd already been offered the job at the repair shop, but other than that, I had no idea what was going to happen. It was like being surrounded by emptiness, like everything was falling away and I had no idea how it would be filled."
She felt Kye nod. "Yeah, emptiness." He sighed. "At least you don't have programming telling you how you should be living your life. If I'm not doing what I was literally created to do, what do I do?"
"You write your own code," Clem answered. "And I can help if you like."
Kye nuzzled her hair with his nose. "I think I'd like that very much. I'm so glad you're here while I'm going through all of this. I don't know if I ever would have left her, if it hadn't been for you."
Clem suddenly felt a fierce protectiveness towards him, the way she had when Dr. Lin had threatened to destroy him. "Well, if this is the only good thing that ever happens from me coming to Mars, then I consider that worth it all."
Kye cupped her cheek. Clem closed her eyes as his lips gently locked with hers, His kiss was as soft as his dark eyes, and Clem sank happily into it. She reached up and twined her fingers into his flowing hair and leaned into his chest, returning his kiss with a full heart.
When their lips parted, they remained deeply twined in one another's arms. "Have you ever been in love before, Kye?" Clem asked.
"No," he answered softly. "Before you, I wasn't even sure if I'd been programmed with the ability to fall in love." He laughed. "And now I'm going on dates. With my girlfriend."
It was the first time he'd called her that. Clem's cheeks and chest glowed with warmth.
"I'm glad that of all the futures that could have happened and all the places in the universe that I could have ended up, that I ended up here with you, Kye."
He squeezed her tightly. His arms were comforting and strong around her. "And I'm glad that of all the people that could have chosen to come to Mars and get a job at the University City Robotics Repair, that it was you, Clementine Chang."
As Kye cuddled her and nuzzled her cheek, Clem found herself looking over his shoulder into the night sky. Beyond the faint glimmer of the biodome, she could see the countless stars stretching out into the infinite universe.
There's no place in the whole universe I'd rather be than right here in your arms. Every atom of me is glad to be here figuring out the future with you. Together.

Note
Im deeply invested in your work stories, what do you mean bad part numbers? Like bad setup done inside them? Wrong BoMs n stuff?
Comiserating with my own problems lol, yesterday i confirmed that our 3PL (3rd party logistics) entered our product data so badly into their system that they overcharged us at least 780% on transports costs.
they set up the item attributes totally wrong, like
creating new PNs for items that are already set up because they were too lazy to search the mfg sku
adding incorrect quotes to PNs
incorrect/missing manufacturer names
incorrect attributes (entering a socket type and not CPU model for a system that currently has a CPU installed. socket type should only be used alone if a system does not have a CPU in it)
not following attribute naming conventions (EX: NIC cards have a field for size. there's a note beside it that says use FL for full length, HL for half length, FH for full height, and HH for half height so 4 letters should be entered like "HHHL". yet they enter shit like "half height HL" instead)
entering "N/A" for required attribute fields to skirt around actually filling them out
putting all item attributes in the item description rather than the fields specifically designed for them
entering an item description as both the description and the item name (which makes the name field extremely long so I have to truncate it or my reports look like shit)
entering the item name as the mfg sku
adding inventory locations that shouldn't be available for specific parts
using the category "accessory" for everything because they don't want to take the time to find a more accurate category on the list
checking a "serial required" box for things without mfg serials, like ethernet cables. also not checking it for things that need to be serialized.
attributing parts to the wrong customer account (visible only internally thank god but again, makes data bad so my reports are shit)
not checking vertical market boxes on CBOMs so I can't fucking track what market the product sales went to
making CBOMs that allocate parts from the wrong locations. and then they refuse to fix them because CBOMs can only be changed via ECO which takes forever (zero sympathy though it's their fault)
CHANGING PN ATTRIBUTES AFTER THE PNS HAVE BEEN APPROVED AND PURCHASED AND THEN BLAMING MY DEPT FOR THINGS NOT BEING RIGHT FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU
also senior engineers will buy stuff with their company credit cards and then fill out expense reports that book the purchases to my department so we lose our funds. they did this with a limo to the airport once. these guys fucking suck.

Character Intro: Apheleia (Kingdom of Ichor)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nicknames- The Simple Miss by the people of Olympius
Leia by her friends
Mom by her son
Age- 34 (immortal)
Location- Hearthwood neighborhood, New Olympus
Personality- She's a beautiful wallflower through and through- mostly introverted, shy, soft spoken, & observing things while being in the background. She can be loving and overprotective to a fault. She doesn't like confrontation. She's secretly seeing someone.
She has the standard abilities of a goddess except shapeshifting. As the goddess of simplicity, she's able to neutralize the powers of the other deities through touch. Her other powers/abilities include having an eidetic memory, being exceptionally skilled in using ancient tools, wood manipulation (dendrokinesis), being exceptionally skilled in fighting in traditional armor & swords, being able to temporarily induce someone to feel unintelligent (though it lasts for an hour), and absolute restoration.
She generally likes speaking in Old Greek.
Apheleia primarily resides in a simple cabin house (which she built by herself) near the Vestian Woods in the Hearthwood neighborhood of New Olympus. She lives with her only child- a son Koalemos (god of foolishness). The interior design is very minimalistic with hand woven carpets, ceramic and pottery pieces, & lots of handcrafted wood and leather furniture. Instead of modern lighting things are kept alight in the house through use of oil lamps. There's also a small TV with basic cable while her bedroom has a simple mattress topped with lots of pillows, white linen sheets, and a large knitted quilt (a gift from Hestia).
She gets around with the use of her bike, walking, & public transportation.
When she does laundry, she prefers to wash the clothes by hand and to hang them on clotheslines outside to dry.
A go-to drink for her is dark roast coffee which she prefers to make the "ancient way." She also likes green tea, coconut milk, ginger ale, mineral water, orange juice, as well as the occassional glass of white wine.
A typical breakfast for her is a small bowl of porridge along with sliced figs, slices of toasted barley bread topped with feta cheese & olive oil butter (which she churns herself), and homemade plain yogurt sweetened with honey.
Apheleia considers her greatest weakness is being an awful liar.
She always starts off her mornings with a jog through the woods and a session of jivamukti yoga.
She dresses in a simple minimalist style. She doesn't care about labels, only comfortability. Apheleia almost always prefers sandals, flats, and sneakers than high heels.
Apheleia often says that her & her son "share the same heartbeat." They have a deep close bond. She loves her son more than anything in all the realms and is constantly worrying about him. She's on top of things regarding Koalemos- his neccessary appointments, his school work, & extracurriculars.
She even has a good relationship with her son's behavioral aide- a centuaress named Demi.
Apheleia has been having a difficult time in allowing her son to be more independent, but is slowly allowing herself to become more comfortable with the idea. She even allowed him to get his first tattoo!
She always carries a stress ball with her, using it whenever she's feeling overwhelmed.
A favorite thing from The Bread Box is a spinach & olive salad along with a small revithia soup.
She loves snacking on gourmet sea salt and cracked pepper popcorn.
Apheleia loves dancing in the traditonal styles! Some of her favorites include the sirtaki, the kalamatianos, the pentozali, & the sousta.
Even though she's a minor deity, Apheleia has a small group of devoted followers- members of the Old Order community. This growing community some almost 400,000 strong with locations in a few western states, but primarily in the Athenian countryside live in the ways of the "old golden days"- little to no use of modern technology, simple living, pacifism, and following the ancient ways of life. The Old Order exclusively speaks the Old Greek language. Certain esteemed members are even petitioning to the crown to start building a temple in her honor! Apheleia has visitied the community many times and was touched to see a carved wooden statue of herself. A large family even presented her with a few trinkets- including a hand stitched chiton & himation. Several times, the thought of joining the community after her son's induction has crossed Apheleia's mind, but so far, she hasn't made a decision yet.
She is a licensed massage therapist. Her primary source of income comes from her business Armoniká Chéria located in downtown New Olympus. Apheleia also provides at-home services as well. Other products can be bought at the place like all-natural soap bars (her personal favorite being the anise java mint), tea baskets, & handmade hemp bags.
In the pantheon her best friend is Thilasmós (goddess of nursing). Her daughter Morá (goddess of babies & children) is good friends with Koalemos.
Apheleia's also friends with Aeschyne (goddess of modesty & honor), Ichnaea (goddess of tracking), Leto (Titaness of demurity & motherhood), Hestia (goddess of the hearth), Elais (goddess of oil), Damia (goddess of naturalness), Nymphe (goddess of self-care), Eusebeia (goddess of piety, loyalty, duty, & filial respect), The Litae, Pherusa (goddess of substance & farm estates), Nárkosi (goddess of sedation), Penia (goddess of poverty), Ptocheia (goddess of beggary), Argía (goddess of holidays), Soteria (goddess of safety), and Hesychia (goddess of quiet, stillness, rest, & silence).
She was mentored by Anchiale (Titaness of fire).
Two of her favorite guilty pleasures is a slice of plain cheese pizza as well as a plain hamburger with small fries from Olympic Chef. Apheleia will put the fries in between the burger and bun before eating it.
A favorite frozen treat is fig sorbet. She gets a medium sized cup at The Frozen Spoon. She also likes a triple scoop of triple vanilla ice cream on a cone (vanilla bean, brown sugar vanilla bourbon with vanilla cookie swirls, & plain vanilla).

Steps to Install Grounding Rods and Alligator Clip to Ensure Effective Grounding
Tumblr media
Is it the first time you plan to carry a portable generator or you think about temporary electric fencing? If so, make sure you know how to use a grounding rod.
Grounding rods play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of electrical systems. You can use them for protecting against electrical faults and lightning strikes, dissipating static electricity, equipment grounding, and stabilizing electrical systems.
Generator grounding rods are available in different types. Such as copper rods, galvanized steel rods, and stainless steel rods. No matter which one you choose, you can establish an effective electrical ground only if use them properly.
In this article, let’s talk about the general steps to install grounding rods and alligator clip and ensure effective grounding in the area.
Step 1: Identify the installation location
Determine the appropriate location to install the grounding rod. Usually, it should be placed close to the electrical system that requires grounding.
The soil for grounding should have good moisture content as moist soil offers better conductivity.
You should avoid areas with shallow bedrock, large rocks, or other obstructions that restrict grounding rod insertion.
Step 2: Select a suitable grounding rod
As mentioned earlier, grounding rods are made of copper or steel. Copper rods are known for their excellent conductivity and resistance to corrosion. You can use this to serve your grounding purpose.
Copper grounding rods should have the required length based on local electrical codes and standards. Generally, a grounding rod is about 8 to 10 feet long.
Step 3: Find the installation tools
Besides grounding rods, a portable generator installation also requires other essential tools.
With ordinary grounding rods, you need a grounding clamp and a wire stripper to prepare the grounding wire. Not so with the Nasafes grounding rod, because here everything works with plug and play connectors. All you need is a hammer to drive the stick into the ground.
Step 4: Place the grounding rod
Before you place the rod, you should clear any debris or vegetation from the installation area.
Using suitable tools, you can drive the grounding rod into the ground vertically and ensure proper insertion.
The top end of the grounding rod should be accessible and protruding from the ground surface.
Step 5: Choose the alligator clip
Find an alligator clip based on several factors, such as size, material, and electrical specifications.
You should ensure that the jaws of the alligator clip are clean and free from any dirt hindering the electrical connection.
Step 6: Place and secure the alligator clip
The plug of the grounding cable is plugged directly into the grounding rod and the alligator clip is connected to the device to be grounded, such as a generator or electric fence.
A established and secure connection is thus guaranteed because the grounding cable is connected directly to the copper rod.
Step 7: Verify the grounding system
Once the grounding rod and alligator clip are in place, it’s essential to test the grounding system to determine its effectiveness.
Experts prefer using a grounding resistance tester or a multimeter to measure the resistance between the grounding system and the Earth. According to the result, you can take the necessary measures. For example, if the resistance is too high, you can improve the soil moisture or add additional grounding rods.
Conclusion
In order to maintain the integrity of electrical systems and safeguard assets, it's essential to understand the significance of grounding rods and how to use it for proper installation. Now, the installation requirements may vary depending on local electrical codes. In such cases, you can consult a licensed electrician or qualified professional to ensure proper grounding rod installation complying with the regulations.

Common Wire Color Codes
While wire color codes may vary slightly depending on the region and specific electrical standards, certain color codes are commonly use worldwide:
Live Wire (Phase): The live Wire, also known as the phase wire, carries electrical current from the power source to the electrical load. In many countries, including the United States and Canada, the live Wire is coded in one of the following colors:
Black: Often used for single-phase systems.
Red: Frequently used for three-phase systems.
Neutral Wire: The Neutral Wire completes the electrical circuit and carries the returning current from the load back to the power source.
The standard color for the neutral Wire is:
Widely used for neutral wires in many countries.
Ground Wire (Earthing): The ground wire, also known as the earthing Wire, provides a safe path for electrical current in case of a fault or short circuit. The ground wire is typically coded in one of the following colors:

Chasing Pasts in Shadows
part 3 | part 4 | part 5
"Great, fantastic." Will massaged his eyebrows. "We can't do anything more today, anyway. We just execute protocol and leave, because we are already an hour late for debrief."
"And my date after that."
"I don't think your boyfriend minds you being late, Max, he worships the ground you walk on." Mike sniffed.
"Who said I'm talking about Lucas?" Max smirked.
"No, no, Max, you stay away from my sister, or Dad and Jonathan will chase you away with guns. She doesn't need another rebellious influence in her life, Mike is enough as is."
"Will!" Mike protested. Will ignored him.
"You say that like Hop doesn't scream '3 inches!' whenever I come over."
"When did that happen? I thought you were still in the 'silent glare' stage?" Will hefted the heavy bag, handing it to Max, so she didn't have to come in.
"A few months ago, Byers. Wheeler watch out, he is coming for your title," Max took the bag easily, walking away.
"What title?" Mike called back.
"'The Most Oblivious'!"
"Fuck off!"
"Can't, we work together!" Mike glared at her till she turned the corner.
"Mike, hold these tripods and these cables." Will handed them, their fingers brushing.
"Thanks."
His own duffle slung over his shoulder, they returned to the place of interest.
Max had assembled some of the components right outside the door, waiting for Will to take them in. He and Mike quickly got to work, Will putting some of the cameras on their stands, connecting with the EVP mics and putting a piece of bread in specific spots, while Mike pointed out areas of high activity to focus on, like the knife block, and the island counter, while Reyes kept watch from a corner, finishing up sometime before evening.
"-and turn on the system at 11:30 pm by pressing the black button on the camera nearest to the door. That's for today, we'll be back tomorrow to get the footage, and put more up after investigating more rooms," Will explained, putting his layered flannel back on. They stood at the gate, while Mike and Max put the rest of their special equipment back into the trunk. "I hope you understand why. It's just we were short-staffed today-"
"Oh no, no, it's okay, totally my fault," Reyes smiled as he reached for his wallet, pulling out a bill.
Will's eyes widened as he saw the '100' on it. "Sorry, I don't have enough change-"
"Keep it, boy. You kids have more use for it than I do." Reyes gave a nod and started back in.
Will shuffled back to the car, a hundred dollars in hand. Max and Mike were done with the packing and pulling the car around to leave. Will got in the passenger side, his regular seat when Mike drove.
“Reyes tip you?” Max asked him from the backseat, tapping away at her phone,
“Thirty-three percent.”
“Damn, he was seriously that impressed with our half assed job?”
“I don't know, at least he wasn't a Karen about us upping the pay for the rest of the investigation.”
“Do you think Dustin would know what to do?” Mike asked, pulling onto an asphalt road. Finally the dust road was behind them, Will’s asthma could rest now.
“I think we all need to come up with a plan now. All of us have never had to be on-field at the same time, so first of all we need to divide tasks, and assign partners.”
“I don't want to hear strategy while returning home,” Max hit the back of Will’s head lightly. “If we have to talk about work, at least read the info Dustin sent about the Reyes so we don't have to hear his rant about being ‘the only one smart and well prepared, about clients, locations and hauntings’, because he will chew us out for leaving the cameras unattended and the battery thing, as if we should be able to tell the future.”
Will rubbed his head, “Alright, alright. If you interrupt with your stupid quips, I'll push you out of the car.” Will pulled up the google docs Dustin had shared with him, scrolling down to get an idea of how long it was. “What the fuck, why is this thing more links than text?”
“Just read. I mean, how should I even know? I just don't want to get another rant about ‘not following protocol’.”
“Half of these links are for different profiles on Facebook.” Will muttered, scrolling down. “There’s a floor plan here, now definitely Dustin will be pissed.”
“Is there anything about Emily?” Mike peeked at his screen.
“Keep your eyes on the road, don't look down,” He scolded. “I'll try  to find somethi- Oh here, a page for someone named Emily Grimrose. It says she was 48 and married to Javier Reyes. She was apparently a stay at home wife and made a lot of knitted things to sell. There’s an alarming amount of Etsy stuff here. The usual selfies with weird angles that make her have a triple chin, some family photos with people who look like her extended family, a trip to some exotic place with lots of water, baking charity sales- wait wait wait, here's something weird, she posts stuff with fun, cute captions underneath, but this photo has a link with it. And that link looks like it leads to some weird occult website. Lots of crystals, incense, herbs and the like.”
“What?” Max leant from the back to get a better look at the picture. “She looks like she's in a dentist's office.”
“Is there anyone tagged in the photo?” Mike asked, thankfully not looking down at Will's phone this time.
Will checked. “A doctor named Amanda Maguire.”
“Maybe it’s her dentist’s name?” Max ducked back to flop sideways on the backseat.
“No, no, the dentist’s office belongs to Robbie Matthews, who has posters all over the city. Very popular dentist, no doubt expensive.”
“How did you know?” Mike asked, driving around a slow car. “Keep up with the speed limit, dick!” He said through the window.
“Just reverse image searched it.” Will was confused. “Amanda Maguire is a gynaecologist. I've never heard of her, or seen her. Why would someone who has a lot of money go to a gynaecologist who isn't well known?” Will scrolled further. “Oh shit.”
“Cut the dramatics, Byers, just spit it out.”
“Emily was pregnant when she died,” Will said, holding out the photo where the caption proclaimed “It’s time for the second trimester!” and showed a smiling Emily with another older woman, Dr. Amanda.
___
why do i keep ending at weird reveals? also lmao will really hates facebook for some reason
i have the entire thing planned out but i do not know how many chapters this will be sorry ;-;
aight disclaimer: i dont know shit about the service charge in america for anything, much less ghost hunting, so i tried my best to calculate it by using the minimum wage and product usage and wear and tear, the same way id do it here. if its too less or too high, lemme know
as always, this was betad by free version of grammarly and hemingway editor, so point out any errors you find

The Benefits and Limitations of Machine Learning in Business
For personnel working with fiber optic lines, fiber id is a crucial piece of equipment. Without interfering with the signal flow, they enable specialists to identify the type of fiber, ascertain the fiber's orientation, and detect the existence of signals on a fiber.
Tumblr media
A fiber identifier is a portable tool that enables technicians to recognize the kind of fiber, determine its orientation, and find signals on a fiber without halting the signal flow. Fiber identifiers function by detecting the light signal that is traveling through the fiber and reporting data on the signal's wavelength and intensity.
How Do Fiber Identifiers Function?
Fiber identifiers operate by detecting the light signal traveling through the fiber using a non-destructive method. Throughout the identification procedure, the fiber is not harmed, and neither is the signal. The fiber identifier's main working concept is clamping the fiber under test between two jaws so that it may identify the presence of a signal without cutting the fiber.
Some of the light that travels through a fiber is lost due to absorption or scattering. The kind of fiber, its length, and any other attenuation elements in the system all affect how much light is lost. The technician can ascertain the existence and strength of a signal thanks to the fiber identifier's and Visual Fault Locator detection of light signals and measurement of light intensity.
Fiber Identifiers' Value
While dealing with fiber optic connections, technicians need fiber IDs as a basic tool. These can aid in determining the type of fiber included in a cable, enabling personnel to choose the proper tools for installation or maintenance. Also, they enable technicians to establish the fiber's orientation, which is crucial for splicing or terminating fibers.
Very helpful for debugging fiber optic networks are fiber IDs. They enable technicians to pinpoint the site of a malfunction or signal loss since they can detect the existence of signals on a fiber without obstructing the signal flow. This is crucial for long-haul fiber optic networks since it might be difficult and time-consuming to locate defects there.
Tumblr media
Fiber identifiers and Fiber Interferometer can also assist in avoiding damage to the fiber during setup or maintenance. Technicians can prevent mistakenly cutting or injuring fibers, which might cause downtime or expensive repairs, by detecting the presence of signals on the fiber.
