Favorite Gun?

I think everyone that’s into firearms will have a favorite. It’s just natural to gravitate towards one firearm or another in your collection. For me it’s truly a hard pick as I have quite a few that I could most definitely put into that category. If you break it down further, such as favorite pistol, favorite revolver, favorite bolt action, favorite semi-auto, favorite PCC and favorite mil-surp, it definitely becomes a much, much easier task to pick those favorites. I have designated my favorites in different places, no doubt. In the past 10 years particularly, I have grown my firearm collection just about to the point where I don’t see much out there that I have to have. With the exception of continuing my passion of firearm projects and the like, there just comes a point where one can be quite content with how far they’ve gotten. So for this article I’m going to make some mentions of some of my favorites. No there’s not just one, but some worth mentioning.

At the top of the heap in the semi auto pistol category just has to be the CZ Shadow 2 Compact I picked up from Brownells last year. For quite a long time, I had been wanting a CZ Shadow variant, but stayed on the fence. My thoughts were that these are strictly a competition style of handgun meant for plinking and target shooting. Being the more practical guy that I am, I typically need more of a purposeful firearm. Once the Shadow 2 Compact was announced, I knew that this one the one for me to get. All the features of it’s full sized big brother, but with a more compact nature giving the ability to use as a defensive pistol if desired. Not to mention the optics capability. This has been one solid pistol any way you slice it and I recently completed my long term review of this pistol, so look for that to come out soon on my YouTube channel.

In the long gun category this is a more tough one to pick just one. I need to break down this category much much more than just long gun. So for that, I’ll break it down into the modern semi-auto category which essentially includes AR variants and similar military style modern rifles, not retro nor classic rifles such as the M1 Garand. For this I had to choose a build project from a couple of years back. I wanted a short version of the Geissele Super Duty rifle that I could form 1 as an SBR. Particularly I wanted to build one in DDC which is Geissele’s FDE/Coyote tan color variation. I already had the Brownells Exclusive Geissele Super Duty in OD Green and tan furniture, but this time I wanted a DDC SBR. I sourced the majority of the parts from Brownells and some from Geissele directly. A good friend of mine had actually got me an FDE Eotech EPS 3-0 recently which was perfect for this build. This SBR has been one perfect setup and I’ve even attended a half day carbine class with it. It truly shoots way better than I’m able to.

So there you have it, a couple of my favorite firearms broken down into different categories. In the future, I’ll be coming out with some other lists as well. These of course are subject to change since we never know when something will knock the top one off it’s pedestal.

Upon further examination and research: that is, in fact, a CZ-75, not a Hi-Power. A fictional version chambered in "10x20mm" which would make it weaker than even .40 S&W (proper 10mm Auto is 10x25mm).
your heart is my target, and i'm a good shot.

What do you think about the glock 43x? I’ve been looking into getting a hand gun for personal protection and I’ve seen some good reviews on that from other women
I personally carry a Glock 19 and have considered a 43 for the concealability- I've carried the 19 for years and am currently in the market for a second, smaller option that's more easily concealed. I don't personally see the appeal of the 43X compared to the 43, because the grip section of the firearm is the part that is most difficult to conceal, and so compared to the Glock 19 I already carry, the 43X offers literally no advantages. I pretty much always want a longer barrel where I can get it- it inherently makes aiming easier for me at least, it provides higher velocity and therefore usually better bullet performance which matters to me if I'm shooting hollow point, defensive ammunition. So I would never want to chop off some barrel without making the whole gun smaller.
At the same time, if I were to buy something smaller, I've thought about looking at the subcompact in the CZ P-10 series because I just think I'd like it and I don't currently own any CZs and would kind of like to- my first gun ever was a cheapo Turkish CZ clone.
I think the 43 just makes more sense than the 43X, especially for most women based on average hand size. But I think a 43x would serve you well if you got one.

I feel Czechoslovakian equipment is either moderately appreciated, unknown, or just worshipped as it should be, I think CZ should give me $100,000 worth of firearms

SHOT Show 2025

Just got back home from SHOT Show in Las Vegas Nevada. This was my first time attending the largest firearms industry trade show in the world. Multiple levels of industry booths spanning across the Venetian and Caesar’s Palace convention spaces. They estimated over 60,000 people were in attendance over the 4 day show. For a first timer, I thought I had prepared adequately, but still don’t think I was quite as prepared as I should’ve been.

The day prior to the show was the industry range day as ell as some other range days in the area. This was a great opportunity to handle and test a variety of different firearms products from different manufacturers. I started the day at the PrairieFire range event hosted by Staccato. At this event I had the opportunity to shoot my first Staccato 2011 pistol as well as the archon Type B, Walther PDP, CZ Bren 3 and Lancer .308 AR. There were many other shooting booths that I did not get to try out due to the time constraint. Noveske had a long range setup shooting one of their 6MM Arc rifles out to 500 yards. I was able to connect on the 3rd shot as there was a heavy crosswind. At the Industry range later that day, I shot the Apollo 11 pistols at the Live Free Armory booth and a couple of customized AR rifles at Culper Precision. The Culper Precision rifles were sweet.

Tuesday was the start of the show and I focused on the second floor to hit up popular big name companies that I have used for builds/parts in the past. Geissele was running their plinko games and that was fun to watch. They introduced a new bolt action rifle at the show which was their very first bolt action rifle. Of course I spent a good bit of time at the Brownells booth catching up with some of the folk I know there. The main item I wanted to check out was the giveaway builds that Brownells had as well as the gen 3 BRN-180. I really liked what I saw with the next generation of the BRN-180 and already have plans to build one of those in the near future. One of the highlights was getting a quick second to chat with Lena Miculek and get a photo with her. Jerry was around too, but each time I wanted to get a quick photo, he was off and running to another booth.

The rest of the week and made it a point to check out booths large and small. Companies like Gideon optics, Caracal and Stroud knives to name a few. One small company I found is based in New York State names Giotto Arms. They have very reasonably priced custom 1911 pistols that truly sparked my attention.

I will say one of the most satisfying things I got to do during the show was finally meet folk that I’ve known for many years in some cases, but never met in person. Chris from the 740 and Chad Albrecht from SOTAR are 2 people that come to mind. I sure hope I can make it gain to the show next year. No that I’m a SHOT Show veteran, I should be better prepared.
