Never, ever, let anyone tell you what you can and can't do. Prove the cynics wrong. Pity them for they have no imagination. The sky's the limit. Your sky. Your limit. Now. Let's dance.

How to Avoid Killing Yourself in Appalachia
“WHERE WILL YOU SPEND ETERNITY? HEAVEN OR HELL”
- Overly inquisitive billboard
Abandoned houses are either smothered by kudzu leaves, pillaged for their dogwood, or turned into cheapjack meth labs. Each storefront, if it isn’t permanently closed, is HIRING! in bold red font. People wave politely and bake pies for each other, and on Sundays, local chapels are like sardine cans. They pray for good times and good health, but someone later whispers that their bright-eyed neighbor passed. Never died. Passed.

Can you draw a full body image of both Cynique and Cynic.
I am working on a better/updated version (including all the androgynous, masc!cynic and fem!cynic/cynique version of our favorite girlypop), but in the meantime this is an old ref sheet of cynic's hero form!
I will say that, in other incarnations, I'll try to lean closer in to the more dusky browns of real life coyotes in other designs (Karra's signature color isn't really truly 'gray', that's just often what you get when you mix all of her true form/alebrije form colors into a guinea-pig sized container), but for Claudia specifically, she is always some version of warm gray (usually to contrast with Adrien/Chat's cool grays)
All of the rectangles/holsters on her knees, thighs and upper arms were meant to be holsters for her various combat knives, by the way. In the updated ref I'll make sure to point these out better (and... well.. draw them better too). The knife holsters are slowly becoming less of a necessary part of the design, though, as I feel like it would also be neat if she just pulled all of them out of her vest rather than just some of them.

I’m a cynic. And a cynic is a romantic who’s scared to hope.

The Death of Hope (The Decay Sessions 6)
There's a corpse living buried under my skin
And no amount of late night black magic rituals
Will ever bring it back.
I've learned to with the dead weight always
weighing down my head
And the smell of decay is almost sweet once
you get used to it
It's the corpse of who I was really meant to be
Something that died on the day I became truly hopeless
And living with no hope is always a death sentence
It's far from quick and it's far from painless
The death of hope is the most painful thing
a person could eve experience
It destroys every connection instantly
Your body goes numb and you can feel the ice
As it freezes the surging blood in your veins
You're heart shatters into pieces
and each shard shatters more
And yo can feel every sharp edge
Slice a hollow in the very center of your chest
Your bones turn to ashes
but not fast enough to escape the pain
You feel every lick of an invisible fire
a poltergeist with a blow torch
The nervous system fires off in distress signals
and you pray for shock, but shock
doesn't help this kind of pain
This brain only responds to negative stimuli
and it's only a few moments later
to where the doctor can pronounce the time
as hope closes its eyes

Diogenes
Jean-Léon Gérôme (French, 1824-1904)
1860
oil on canvas
The Greek philosopher Diogenes (404-323 BC) is seated in his abode, the earthenware tub, in the Metroon, Athens, lighting the lamp in daylight with which he was to search for an honest man. His companions were dogs that also served as emblems of his "Cynic" (Greek: "kynikos," dog-like) philosophy, which emphasized an austere existence. Three years after this painting was first exhibited, Gerome was appointed a professor of painting at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts where he would instruct many students, both French and foreign.
