WAIT WAIT WAIT !!!!!!
If we put this back together, it also means that when Denji offered Asa starfish to nibble on
In reality, the symbolism is EVEN STRONGER
Asa didn't succumb to hunger; if she had, it would have been an opportunity for Fami to regain control over Yoru and the war demon's power.
Beyond food, this starfish represents Asa's hope of moving on.
Beyond a star, it's an unconscious act of salvation

Gonna give my thoughts on chapter 116 of Chainsaw Man!
Tumblr media
SPOILERS AHEAD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m so happy we have confirmation that Nayuta is still around! We did see her sleeping with Denji in a previous chapter but it’s nice that we see Denji talk about her now. Moreover, my wish from the ending of part 1 has been fulfilled, Nayuta is Denji’s lil sis now!
Now I expected Denji to be taking care of her. So when I see him trying to make money, I assumed it was to cover the living costs.
BUT TO FIND OUT IT WAS ALSO TO SAVE UP FOR NAYUTA’S COLLEGE?? I’m just….I’m so proud of you Denji.
He’s not just giving a her roof over her head. He’s actively trying to improve her life as much as possible. He wants her to succeed.
I really hoped part 2 would’ve been about Denji trying to be a good role model for Nayuta while trying to be Chainsaw Man…but this is good too. I really want Asa to meet Nayuta now lol

Denji has gotten much more mature. He immediately toned down with Asa when he saw how she really is. It’s nice to see him giving her compliments and how Asa reacted was cute! She needed those confident boosts! And him saying she “reminds him of an old friend” with such a somber look in his eyes just breaks my heart…he’s been through so much.
This arc was more about Asa and for good reason! People hype up Yoru more so it makes sense to establish Asa’s character. Here, she found a way to escape HERSELF. I’m proud of her!

And it was cute to see Asa and Denji enjoying themselves as they try to find loot. Ironically, they were having a good date lol. Also that panel with Asa and Denji running together is definitely a parallel to Asa and her first friend…I’m not sure what this means though.
_______________________
Overall, solid chapter. I love seeing more of Asa, especially since she’s learning to be more confident. She’s a great protagonist to follow!
Only in Chainsaw Man, you can witness two Highschoolers bond over eating starfish from an aquarium!
Asa seems to be understanding her powers more. But it just makes me more nervous over their confrontation ;-;
Sorry for late posts. I don’t have interest or energy to make a post about my thoughts on EVERY chainsaw man chapter. I’ll be making another post about the next chapter soon!

Chainsaw Man Chapter 116 Thoughts
Tumblr media
The destination is almost within sight, and a long journey of catching up is about reach its end.  Which is a great way to correlate to the events that transpire within this experience at the Aquarium with Denji  and Asa.
A conversation about the Starfish is discussed about between Denji and Asa whether it was edible to eat and certain capabilities if eaten raw.  This wasn’t much of an issue because Denji found a solution to make things work in order to boil the starfish.  It is a then the topic of conversation shifted to school hats which sat on the floor where they both were to which Denji reveals he’s collecting them to sell, and Asa got curious about his obsession with money.
Denji reveals to Asa that he’s doing this because of little sister figure, Nayuta, who is smart enough to go to college.  He recognizes that it’s crazy expensive to go to College and is doing everything to make sure she has a normal life because his was really crappy.  From there, the starfish is ready for them both to eat before shifting their attention to fish that sat on the side.
Asa isn’t too fond of the taste from the fish, but that is something Denji finds amusing about her even saying she’s actually fun despite claiming to be a total bore.  Upon hearing those words,  Asa’s confidence and attitude skyrockets which reminds Denji of his old friend, Power.  She proclaims that there was a way for them to escape but first they gotta collect the money, and once that is done Asa tells Denji to hand it over  to her.
Finally, he is reluctant to do so until  hearing “I’ll grant you any request” once they are out of this place. That was enough to hand the money over to Asa then convinces him to cover his eyes and ears before she makes a plea.  Pay off the one million yen in the bag to buy this aquarium before placing her hand on the glass chanting “Aquarium Spear!” bringing an end to the chapter.
All in all, this chapter of Chainsaw Man gets a Pure Perfection rating.  There has been a common trend where it feels we’re stuck in one spot for a small amount of chapters, but Tatsuki Fujimoto manages to let ‘em have depth and meaning behind them. This one is no different as the focus was centered primarily on Denji and Asa’s character respectively. Learning about what’s been going on in Denji’s day to life since the events of Part 1 was really amazing, but also seeing him have a great time with Asa and act like genuine teenagers was beautiful.  Which brings us to an ending where things clearly are about to lead somewhere for the readers which that anticipation definitely left a mark, but this is all I gotta say for the time being with Chainsaw Man.   The curtain on my catch up to the manga is slowly beginning to close and my next chapter thoughts will be up soon, but until then, I hope you all take care of yourselves out there and stay safe.
