ok kinda infodumping. bc its my blog and nobody can stop me and ppl will just zoom past. which is good bc nobody should care.
anyways i got a black friday deal on another mini arcade cab. and it's got all the darkstalkers games on it! and online play. and w buncha other good games. and it's hackable. and unlike my final fight cab, it has enough buttons for most arcade games. and it lights up n shit and it's all cool.
n i can buy this rly affordable lil marquee panel? to make it look like an era-accurate conversion of a street fighter cab into a darkstalkers one. i mean aesthetically, bc both sf and ds games are on there already. so it'll literally BE that darkstalkers dreamcab that i always wanted but they'll never make.
but okay so lol here's the thing. i'm getting the stock cabinet in like a few days. but the custom darkstalkers marquee wont get here for like a month? and to put the marquee in i'd prob have to disassemble everything n put it back together again. which'd be rly annoying! i might be too lazy for that! so should i even bother getting this custom part?
again idk why i'm even writing this bc i end up takin on way harder projects all the time. look at my clothes. my car. etc. i already know im gonna put this shit together and take it apart n redo it once i get the new part. i guess i just wanted to complain/gush about it. I'M FINALLY GONNA HAVE A DARKSTALKERS CAB!

i have a pet headcanon that when Charles says he never finished the story of Orpheus and Eurydice, what he actually means is that he never finished 1989 punk rock film Shredder Orpheus which features, among other things: life and death skateboarding, the underworld being the literal underworld for dead people but also a corporate television channel, and a special magical Jimi Hendrix guitar
he watched it in St. Hilarion's basement on an old CRT TV where half the screen is purple and the speakers are on their last dying breath and he was only half paying attention because he and his friends were passing a joint around and he needed to study for a math exam so he catches the scene where orpheus and Eurydice reunite and thinks "huh job officially jobbed. good for them 👍👍" and completely misses the fact that they reunited because orpheus was dead and that the last ten minutes of the movie involved the logistics of how a group of punk kids ended up with his skull as a symbol of rebellion against The Man(TM)

I promise I'll stop with my aging anticapitalist yells at cloud type posts after this one but like. Hear me out.
So I've been trying to wean off Audible for their accursed business practices, right? And I use Libby but 10 audiobooks only lasts me like 1 week if I pick long ones, so I'm like some kind of library werewolf who only borrows digital content for the full moon or someshit, ok?
So until my beloved wife NewPipe comes back from the war I've been listening to yt on Firefox, right? Well.
Yt is so determined to enshittify that if you don't disable the yt app (because you can't uninstall it which IMHO means it's officially, inarguably and forever bloatware now) it will open the app instead of the webpage with so little fanfare that if you aren't intentionally watching for it you won't even notice the window shift.
And like. I'm watching like 90 minute lectures from random professors from schools I'll never see giving talks to like 10 people in forgotten university backrooms or for like the anniversary of some church regarded as architecturally significant or as part of winning academic awards I've never heard of etc.
Some of these videos are from like 2013 and you can almost garauntee the speaker uploaded it or agreed to have it filmed + uploaded specifically because they wanted more people to hear their presentation than could or would be present when they originally made it. When you're nerdy about something you usually want to share it, these aren't YouTube Personalities(tm), they're sharing the obscure joys of their phD with losers like me who can't go to school.
You have to wonder if they would have chosen a different platform or gotten a website of their own to put it up on or something if they'd known their lectures, and I mean some of them are putting up entire 10+ hour courses recorded in their own classrooms for FREE solely because they wanted to and could, would become so thoroughly affected by corporate bullshit.
Most lecturers promoted nothing or at most namedropped their own book like once, but their work is now so thoroughly ad-ridden and Schrodinger's paywalled* as to become unwatchable without a bit more spite and tech flexibility** than should be required when the whole point was to share the fucking thing.
Some of those who uploaded content have long since stopped, whether because they've already put up everything they wanted the public to see or because, and in some cases some of them were not at all young in 2008, they've gone on to the big classroom in the sky. Which makes retroactively barriering something they taught freely seem awfully ghoulish if you ask me.
* You know how like, you technically CAN watch videos free on vanilla yt but you can't minimize the window or do anything else with your screen while they're playing? That's the kind of scumbag plausible deniability I'm calling Schrodinger's paywall.
** While it doesn't require much tech savviness to switch to ff or use a frontend for yt, the fact that it requires any at all goes against the spirit of sharing. Your grandma's grandma who remembers party landlines and had to be cajoled to even get a flip phone should be able to ask you "Can you show me that video again with the nice young man talking about the Odyssey?" (the young man is in his 60s) and watch it on a 1995 tower pc with a CRT monitor if she damn well pleases.

I also played the original SH2 yesterday. The control scheme did take a little bit of getting used to again, but it wasn't as terrible as everyone makes it out to be. 2D controls are definitely better than 3D.
I was amazed at how crisp it looks on a CRT; the game is gorgeous even without the noise filter.
I was also struck by how surprisingly colorful it was? The remake had me thinking the game was more desaturated than it actually was.
It's an emotionally taxing game. Eventually I had to put it down. SH2 isn't my personal favorite of the lot and it's not a bad game by any means, but it does demand a lot of you emotionally; it's not the kind of game you Turn Off Brain(tm) for. You have to be in a proper headspace to play it.
Even though I've played this game a million times, it still manages to make me tense up. And it doesn't really relent.
As I ventured into the fog, I kept thinking "I can't see two inches in front of my face" which added to the tension.
I also noticed that the fog shifts direction whenever the wind picks up; you'd think it'd roll in a more uniform pattern, which wouldn't have been noticeable especially considering this was a launch title for the PS2, but small details like those make the experience more immersive.

"The Tardis Did It" theory + Boom
My big theory for the upcoming season of Doctor Who is that "the tardis did it." In a nutshell: I think she's been using her perception filter to bring a story to life for the Doctor, just like the birth machine in Space Babies.
I don't ascribe every weird or fantastical thing that's happened so far in rtd2 to "the tardis doing it" (because I have a spirit of whimsy in my heart). But I operate under the assumption that, at minimum, she's been doing the following:
Trying to maintain "the mystery of Ruby Sunday," by actively sabotaging any attempts to learn who Ruby's mother is
Creating the Susan Twists (already canon as of Empire of Death)
Creating "a boogeyman for the babies" - Sutekh and the pantheon
Making it snow
(Why would the tardis make it snow? I suspect the first time it happened, it was a basically arbitrary side effect of whatever weird memory-editing was happening with the Doctor and the cloaked figure. And then the Doctor invested that arbitrary perception filter effect with meaning - "I wonder who your mother is" - and the tardis ran with that.)
Tumblr media
Now. If I were correct, I'd expect to be able to look at rtd2 s1, and find some ironic echoes. Some indirect foreshadowing. Think: the way that most of s9 consists of standalone stories that aren't directly connected to each other or the finale, and yet they all keep posing questions like "how does the Doctor deal with death," and "what are his ethical responsibilities re death and time travel," and "how would he react to Clara's death specifically."
I might particularly expect to find echoes and mirroring in a Moffat episode, because he loves that shit.
So, although Space Babies is the obvious ground zero for "the tardis did it" foreshadowing... For the moment, let's talk Boom.
Tumblr media
This is one of those "random" prolongings of the Ruby's mother mystery that felt so cheap post-Empire of Death, yeah? Why wouldn't the ambulance be able to pull her mom's dna from the fascist databank? Especially right after giving Ruby's "calendar age" as 3082 years, which demonstrates that it has access to her birth year from ancient earth records. Did it just happen to glitch out?
Did someone hack the ambulance?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When it starts to snow, it's in direct response to Ruby's question. Let's assume, for a second, that Ruby Sunday, regular human with a regular human mother, isn't actually the one who's been causing the snow. Who would have heard her?
How about...the universal translator, who listens to (and seamlessly edits) every word of every conversation?
The Doctor once again invests the snow with meaning ("No, it's Ruby! This has happened before. It's good, it's good, the snow is good. Where there's snow, there's ho-") And mid-sentence, the snow freezes in mid air. Accompanied by what I can only describe as an "electronic power-down" sound effect. (Note: the ambulance didn't power down. It's still on and functioning in the next shot). Like...a tv being paused, and then turned off?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"It" = the snow, obviously. And Ruby? (How can she just stop?) And the show itself? (How can it be derailed by a companion death 3 episodes in?)
As Ruby is dying, we zoom in for a close up on the Doctor, and the visuals and sound start to "glitch." The editing jumps choppily between split-second images, accompanied by a sort of "analog" noise that puts me in mind of a projector skipping, or a CRT tv (or, uh. the bullet sounds in Undertale).
Clearly, the Doctor is having a panic attack. But is that all that the "analog glitchiness" signifies?
Okay, I've gotten a little granularly focused on the Snow Scene TM. Let's zoom out a little.
What's the overall conceit of this episode?
Tumblr media
You're waging an imaginary war, against enemies that don't exist. The only threat is your own machine, and your willingness to believe in its fantasies. "Do you get it? Do you g-g-get it?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway!
John Francis Vater "impossibly" hacks into the system (a little like how the ambulance was maybe-hacked into not revealing Ruby's mother?). But the system fights back, because "the algorithm will do anything to protect itself."
Tumblr media
Heyyy, so, uh, what do the ambulances remind you of, design-wise? Their rectangular shape? Their association with the color blue? Those lights on top of them?
By the way. After being offscreen ever since the Doctor ran outside at the start of the episode, this is our first shot of the tardis:
Tumblr media
Her light lit up blue. Like the ambulances. Positioned as if she's looming behind them.
The Doctor gives Mundy a goodbye hug, and we immediately cut to an even more looming shot:
Tumblr media
You know how next season's Belinda is played by the same actress as Mundy? You know how the tardis (as we're explicitly told in Empire of Death) used her perception filter to 3d-print Susan Twists across time and space?
You know how "the mystery of Ruby Sunday" just came to an odd, anticlimactic end? After they traveled to the fascist databank in the memory tardis, not the real tardis? And now the Doctor - the story - needs a new companion, and a new mystery?
The Doctor offers one parting bit of meaning: "Death defines us. Snow isn't snow until it falls." And as the tardis fades away, we get one final, pointed snowflake:

My spouse and I had An Experience that illustrates this point so vividly that I feel I have to share: We like traveling, specifically in West Virginia. We're big cryptid people, so we drive up to Point Pleasant yearly and love to go site seeing. We also are big into The Adventure Zone, so when we discovered that the Green Bank Telescope was a Real Thing (TM) we decided we had to go. So, in the end of January, we drove up to that area of West Virginia; we finished Amnesty on the way in, so we were in a Big Mood and very excited to actually SEE the telescope.
There are a handful of things to know about this area, however. The Green Bank telescope sits right in the middle of what is known as the Radio Quiet Zone. Now, those familiar with Amnesty might have an inkling of what the area is, but unless you've been up that way, it is nearly impossible to fathom the complete disconnection that it wields. See, the Green Bank telescope looks into the sky and measures waves - radio waves. But its very large (400 ft dish!) and very sensitive, so it'll pick up just about anything that comes that way. This is why we have the radio quiet zone - the idea is, they limit the waves that go through the area, making it much easier to tell what is the stars and what is someone's phone. This means, however, that in that 1,300 square mile area, there is no: Wifi, cell data, or radio signals. This means that within this entire giant block of WV and VA, you have no reception or wifi. Within the town of Green Bank, they can't have microwaves. Their internet access is Ethernet only. The police had to get special permission to use the standard CRT radios for emergencies. The bus we rode up to see the damn dish had a Faraday cage for our phones.
I cannot describe to you how complete this isolation is. TAZ tried, but they, even, didn't quite get it.
We went. The weekend we went, it had snowed a little in Virginia, so there was about 6-12 inches in the Monongalia National Forest. We had fun; we treked, we age gorp as the sun went down, and we visited the telescope. Due to it being the middle of COVID, the science center wasn't open, so when we visited the telescope, we were alone. We were so alone that when we walked the 1.5 mile trek to the telescope itself, we saw probably 10 to 15 deer just... vibing.
I had turned my phone off and left it in the car. My spouse had turned their phone off, but kept it on their person, just in case. They'd downloaded the map we needed to use in Maps offline, because we knew we'd have no access to Live Maps and we weren't stupid. But when we got back to the car, and they turned their phone on, Maps, I think, required some kind of update. I don't remember exactly what it needed, but I remembered that it wouldn't work until we connected it to Wifi, which we couldn't do at all. So the map we'd saved? Inaccessible. Because we couldn't access Wifi on a whim.
There is nothing like trying to travel the back woods of WV, in the dark, snow on the ground, with no sense of where to go and no map to follow. There is nothing more isolating than the encroaching darkness and reflective white snow and the stillness of a winter evening. None of the gas stations carried maps, like physical maps, either. If it wasn't for the old southern man who pointed us towards Roanoke, I don't know what we would have done. We carry a physical map of WV in both of our cars now, just in case, but that doesn't matter. The point is that there was a chance we could have gotten seriously lost, seriously injured, or otherwise - all because we were expected to have access to Wifi 100% of the time.
smartphone storage plateauing in favor of just storing everything in the cloud is such dogshit. i should be able to have like a fucking terabyte of data on my phone at this point. i hate the fucking cloud

Transcript: Caduceus isn't a pacifist and alligators eat babies – TM for CR C2 Ep59 0:20:37
I feel extremely called out, Brian w. Foster, but you're not wrong. Here's your transcript.
"Flowers are beautiful, mushrooms are fascinating, rot is beautiful, and the swamp smells great. Also, alligators fucking eat a baby. And you're like, 'And it's all part of the tapestry.'" - Taliesin Jaffe
Scene runs: 0:20:37 to 0:22:35
0:20:37 Taliesin: "[Caduceus] is not a pacifist."
Brian: "Oh course."
Taliesin: "I know he gives the vibe of a pacifist. He's… a naturalist? I don't know; there's not a good word for it. But no, I mean, if anything it was-"
Brian: "An herbalist."
Taliesin: "He's definitely- there's some herbalism involved. But no, I think it's more to the point that he felt that this wasn't the most advantageous direction to take. there was very much the idea of, 'The water's pouring this way, but we're hitting a rock and it's-'" He makes a diverting gesture. "But like, it's very much the path of least resistance seemed to be, 'This seems difficult, and I'm not entirely sure that we need to do this, and there might be something more for us if we just let it happen.' But he would- I mean, he wouldn't have had a second thought about grinding them into paste if it had come down to it because nature is cruel and indifferent to such things. But-"
Dani: "Nature is a cruel god."
Taliesin: "Yeah! I mean nature- I mean like, you watch a nature video, there's like- there's a whole Nature is Metal subreddit that is just like, 'Oh wow, yeah, that happens in the world.' And, uh," he laughs nervously.
Brian: "Like when you see the snake has actually swallowed a dude or whatever."
Dani: "Okay!"
Taliesin: "Oh yeah, things like that. And you're like, 'Oh my god!' But accepting it and letting that be part of it along the lines of flowers are beautiful, mushrooms are fascinating, rot is beautiful, and the swamp smells great. Also, alligators fucking eat a baby. And you're like, 'And it's all part of the tapestry.'"
Laughter.
Dani: "'Also, alligators fucking eat a baby.'"
Brian: "You guys, I just flashed forward to two hours from now where I'm going to be at home on Tumblr, and I know the Tumblr accounts that are going to post that quote that you just said, too, and I will be seeing you soon."
Taliesin: "I know, I'll get it to you later."
Dani: "In various colors."
Taliesin: "And I know how I got there, and they won't know how I got there, but I know how that happened just now in my head."

dfjdfdf most of the people my uhhh "ex" thesis director recommended I reach out to are postcolonial or CRT scholars. We can and should have the conversation on how eating disorders are portrayed as white girl TM diseases, but I dunno if that will take up enough space in my project to be worth their time. AAAAAAAA.

Important Economic Trends During Anarchy
2021 – Let the Games Begin
14. A Christian Secession – Poetic Justice equals Reality Checks
News broke this week that the General Counsel of Coca-Cola resigned abruptly last week over his aggressive championing of the Critical Race Theory. I guess the fizz went out of Coke and they decided they did not want to “Go Woke and Go Broke”. Poetic Justice?
China’s Wuhan Virus vaccine reportedly has an effective rate of 40% or less and fewer than one-third of Chinese have had even one shot of that two-shot vaccine. India is suffering an enormous increase in Wuhan Virus infections which multiple “variants” creating havoc. Some analysts are combining those facts and forecasting that China may be in for a Pandemic crisis since those two countries share a common border. Another case of Poetic Justice?
The U. S. Chamber of Commerce is dominated by large U. S. Corporations. Haters of Trump, in the November 2020 election the U. S. Chamber of Commerce backed many Congressional Democrats and Biden. Biden’s $6 Trillion proposed bills mostly wasteful spending unless you are part of the Democratic Party entourage. To pay for these monstrosities, Biden and gang want to raise taxes on …drum roll please …big businesses (and others). Poetic Justice – yessir.
Also, in the tax crosshairs are anyone that owns any asset such as a home, stock, farm, or business. Not only do the Demented Marxists (DM) want to raise capital gains taxes, but the DMs also want to reduce the estate tax exclusion down to $1M per person. That combination will significantly diminish investment activity and reduce future job growth by punishing anyone who works hard, builds a business, and invests their money. Another reality check full of pain.
If Biden and his merry band of DMs succeed in passing these proposals, it will take decades for the U. S. economy to recover AFTER this stupidity is reversed. If it is ever reversed. Marxism or Socialism has NEVER succeeded. Only an idiot would claim China is an economic success because reality is that China is a debt fueled, economic house of cards.
Do not believe the Democratic propaganda machine about Biden’s ratings. The unreported facts are:
1. Biden’s speech before Congress was viewed by so few folks it makes the NBA’s viewership look superb.
2. Senator Tm Scott’s speech was phenomenal and obviously on target because the DM’s went ballistic to the point that Biden was forced to state the next day that Americans are not racist. Meanwhile his administration continues to push the Critical Race Theory (CRT) which says all whites are bad because they are racists.
3. Idaho became the first state to ban CRT from being taught in its schools. At least four more states have followed suit. Where is Virginia’s government on CRT? – Oh, stupid me, we are controlled by DMs.
4. Five white farmers in Wisconsin have filed suit claiming discrimination over Biden’s proposal to forgive the USDA debt of black farmers.
Here are some critical economic events.
1. Due to the stimulus already in the economy, economic growth has surged to a level almost equivalent to where the USA economy was in January of 2020. That is the good news.
2. The bad news is that economic growth is being retarded by those stimulus programs that made unemployment provide folks a higher income than if they were working. So, workers are staying home and enjoying the government/taxpayer money. Pay people NOT to work and they do not work. Somehow the DM’s have a hard time grasping that equation.
3. Because of the shortage of workers, employers are raising wages and offering bonuses. Great for the employees. Also, a source of inflationary pressure.
4. Supply chains are distorted because of perceived shortages which encourages buyers to buy extra to their actual needs which in turn exacerbates the shortage because producers cannot keep up with the surging demand. Think toilet paper a year ago. Computer chips are a recent example. Auto manufacturers are having to shut down plant because why cannot get the computer chips they need.
5. I hope you belly laughed like I did when Biden talked about the government getting into the production of computer chips. The government is doing such a great job with the Postal Service and applying the same techniques to our medical care, solar power that I hope we dodge the bullet of the government fouling up the computer chip industry.
Compared to Trump who actually solved problems rather than just talking about them being problems, the contrast with the politicians in Richmond or DC is stark. DM politicians just want to get paid for talking about a problem, scoring rhetorical points, and have a fund raiser about the problem, but they never solve the problem. The focus is all about money, how much is theirs.
Keep watching the activity about the fraudulent election last November.
a. The Michigan Supreme Court ruled that the Michigan Secretary of State exceeded her authority when she approved a variety of changes to the state’s election laws. Was the “certified” election in Michigan a fraud? YES.
b. The Arizona legislature authorized recount of 2.1 Million votes in Maricopa County, Arizona is rolling despite the DMs attempt to prevent it.
c. It is fun watching the DMs oppose audits in Wisconsin and Georgia. Odd behavior if there is nothing to hide.
d. Lawsuits have been filed and counter filed by Mike Lindell, Sidney Powell, and Dominion (the voting machine company). Stay tuned, much more to come.
114 days into the DMs’ coup (it is the longest 114 days EVER), here are some quick observations of recent events that will impact our economic future:
1. Financial analysts are beginning to evaluate when The Fed starts reducing their Quantitative Easing (QE). Last week two camps began to evolve – one expecting the reduction in QE to start in June and the other estimating in October of this year. The significance is that a reduction in QE will mean higher interest rates. Higher interest rates mean a slower real estate market and ultimately lower real estate prices.
2. Watch the 10-year Treasury which fluctuated back to 1.70%. Without QE, interest rates would be higher. Various sources estimate that by the end of 2021 the 10-year Treasury will be 2.5% to 3.0% and mortgage rates will increase to 4.0% to 4.5%.
3. The down stock market on Tuesday, May 4, was the result of Janet Yellen commenting that the robust USA economy might cause The Fed to allow interest rates to rise sooner than official Fed statements. The stock market recovered when she “clarified” her statement. BUBBLE ALERT !!!
4. When bubbles burst, shortage becomes surplus overnight.
Unsustainable things continue until that unpredictable moment when they stop. In a financial crisis “Cash is King”. Get prepared.
A great piece of land remains The Best investment long term unless the DMs get us to full-fledged Marxism. Capitalism builds wealth, Marxism/Socialism consumes it in self destruction. Pray for a return to honest elections in the USA. God is in control. Men make plans, but God ALWAYS wins.
“For it is God’s will that by doing right you should silence the ignorance of the foolish.”
