some fics are rated e!
sakuatsu
rotten work & other things worth doing t. 3k. atsumu and sakusa clean atsumu's bathroom together. that's it, that's the fic. lots of hurt/comfort and love and affection <3
The Sakusa Complaint Jar t. 3.6k. hilarious take on the swear jar, especially as atsumu learns he's more down bad for sakusa than he thought.
Appease and Assuage t. 5.1k. sakusa has a bad day and atsumu is there for him. very soft and raw with sakusa feeling off-kilter, and atsumu knows exactly how to help him.
come, morning light g. 5.2k. sakusa gets sick and tries to push atsumu away but eventually lets him in. very soft and domestic.
Here Is Your Verse m. 15.52. 2/2. atsumu ends his fwb relationship with sakusa because he caught feelings. they end up reconciling in the end.
when you hear hoofbeats t. 42.4k. 14/14. university au slowburn where sakusa has eds and he gets into a relationship with atsumu. be aware of the chapter warnings because it gets heavy but has a happy ending!
Stockholm Syndrome Isn't Real e. 50.2k 8/8. side sunaosa(komo). au where atsumu is a pro athlete but osamu is secretly a hacker and atsumu is kidnapped in his place. love the action, tension, and everything about this.
sunaosa
slip of the pen t. 6k. suna channels all his pining into award-winning books and osamu has never read any of them. the pining is top-tier in this.
moonsick m. 7.8k. fwb to lovers in suna's pov. is it really a sunaosa fic without one of them being emotionally constipated?
in the mood for love m. 8.3k. friends to exes to friends to lovers pipeline. i love the prose and osamu's thoughtful narration.
Litany in Which Certain Words Are Said t. 10.9k. 5 times osamu says "i love you" and 1 time suna says it back. oohh the yearning in this is top-tier!
a type of hunger m. 9.1k. i love the exploration of suna's hunger in this as an athlete and feeling like he's falling behind. good thing osamu is there for him <3
An Inconvenient Espionage e. 26.6k. 5/5. side sakuatsu. spy au, assholes to lovers. good action, good spy work, good tension 👀
somewhere to lay the flowers t. 25.6k. i've read a healthy amount of bastigod's works and trans suna has me in a chokehold. i also love magical realism and the mythology in this was woven wonderfully. suna's daughter is also a delight!
iwaoi
stumble into the sun e. 3.6k words of iwaizumi discovering that oikawa has a praise kink. it's also very soft and lovely.
Press '1' to Get a Call From Your Drunk Best Friend t. 5.4k. a drunk iwaizumi spills about his love and appreciation for oikawa. it's hilarious and fluffy and one of my favorites <3
HIPS DON'T LIE e. 8.1k. iwaizumi overhears girls talk about how good oikawa is in bed and is given a live demonstration from the man, himself.
i wanna ruin our friendship t. 18/18. oikawa comes to terms that he's in love with his best friend. features heavy themes, read the chapter warnings before proceeding. there's a happy ending!
bokuaka
Tell Me, Eurydice (How Could I Not?) t. 6.3k. lovely prose from akaashi's perspective about bokuto becoming captain and the idea of akaashi being his vice captain.
hoot if you've heard this one before t. 5.2k. bokuto and akaashi lose contact and find each other in university at a cafe that akaashi owns. lovely reconciliation fic and relationship recovery.
papers (the special, laminated ones) t. 5.3k. bokuto's parents have a tradition of laminating all his special papers and he isn't allowed to get them until "he's ready." i loved how sweet and fluffy this was, especially with his relationship with akaashi <3
Spaces aren’t Voids 7.2k. bokuto had every intention to propose until he lost the ring. a very fun and fluffy fic of a marriage proposal that doesn't quite go through but things go well in the end.
To Have and to Rail e. 12.4k. this is more humor than smut about akaashi's scientific exploration to match bokuto's stamina in bed. it doesn't go as well as he hopes (of course. good luck, akaashi)
onigiri miya: brand ambassadors (applications closed) g. 4k. bokuto is kinda slightly jealous of how close akaashi is to osamu because he's obsessed with onigiri miya. hinata feels the same way with kageyama. so what do they do? become brand ambassadors for osamu. absolutely hilarious and fluffy!
Kiss Me (Like You Wanna Be Loved) e. 56.6k. 27/27. oh the pipeline of strangers to roommates to fwb to lovers, i love it so. equal parts hurt/comfort, fluff, with the perfect amount of nsfw.
kagehina
soft serve t. 9.6k. hinata and kageyama drive an ice cream truck to fundraise money for karasuno's volleyball club. that's it, that's the fic.
Meme of the Day g. 4k. kageyama accidentally turns hinata into a meme. very fluffy and cute!
miscellaneous
yachi hitoka stop being so relatable challenge t. 4.1k. i loved this exploration of yachi being known and getting closer with the karasuno boys. she's such a precious cinnamon roll <3
north is everywhere. t. 12.1k. an exploration of kiyoko's development through high school, from being a manager out of obligation to continuing out of choice. also ace rep!
summer rolling down a cheek gen. 13.2k. a beautiful character study of kenma after the spring tournament as he thinks about the future and what comes next. beautiful prose and introspection.

Have you watched the Haikyuu movie? Do you enjoy it? I love it !! For me, my top fav Haikyuu ships are : KageHina, IwaOi, KuroKen, & BokuAka. (And you're Iwaoi fics are my fav until now, thanks for sharing them).
Now, can I ask your thoughts, please? Iwaoi and Kuroken are childhood friends to lovers ship, what made those 2 ships different to you? What made Iwaoi more famous? Also, what do you think of Ushijima/Oikawa and Oikawa/Kageyama ships?
Since which moment that you ship Iwaoi? What are your fav Iwaoi moments?
Sorry for my long ask, feel free if you want to answer or not.
guys with all these delicious asks you're sending in, I'm going to be stuck on my couch for the whole night...keep em coming
YES I enjoyed the dumpster battle movie, the animation was so good, the story beats and sfx and kenma's POV and idk how they managed to make a volleyball rally seem like a fight to the death but my god. I wanted to eat the movie
I think iwaoi and kuroken are different in that iwaoi are very much "equally pulling on each other's hair and spitting into each other's desserts and running after each other with a worm on a stick" type of dynamic. it makes for a very turbulent and fun pairing, and adding to that, the angst that inevitably comes along due to oikawa being so passionate about vball and iwaizumi...iwaizumi being Just Good Enough to play with him until the end of highschool. add to that the angst of oikawa being recognized as The Grand King setter, while iwaizumi always seems like a footnote. ah the childhood friend, ah the grand king's first wing spiker yes—but not his best. although iwaizumi himself has never once said he felt inadequate or left behind, you just can't help but wonder, can't help but feel it yourself, this gulf that spans the point from oikawa to iwaizumi. I don't think iwaoi is more famous in the way that means they're better, I just think it shows that people like it when things hurt hahahah
kuroken I would say is like a ball of fluff, like cotton candy, easy to swallow and easy to enjoy. or no, maybe you could say they're definitely simply just childhood friends, without all the drama that oikawa brings to iwaoi HHAHA. I wouldn't call the ship bland though, because if you peel back the layers of fluff, you rmr it's not just about quiet x loud, or small x big, or gamer x hot guy, which are labels that kuroken is often find themselves in—but that actually, kuroo has such an understated comprehension of how kenma has such a killer instinct, that kenma actually can get Serious, if you manage to get him in the zone. people will tell him kenma doesn't seem to like vball much, or that kenma seems too frail or too lax or too unsuited to exertion, and kuroo will just hum and smile like, well. if kenma didn't like it, he wouldn't do it. and that easy acceptance, that unspoken understanding that kenma never even had to tell him—somehow it just gets me. sometimes easygoing ships just hit different, when they're so comfortable with each other. like how kenma will tease kuroo with a blank-face by giving him mint candy when he knows he doesnt like mint. like they're already settled in together, what more can you say about them. also kenma being younger than kuroo is kinda cute, considering how shy kuroo was when they first met.
as for ushioi and oikage, I can definitely see where fans of those ships are coming from. I mean I once read a Yamaguchi/Oikawa fic and i rmr it being surprisingly good. the sheer amount of content, conflict and drama that oikawa brings with him to any ship is just so typical of him. of course he has to bring out the best in everyone he's matched with, that's just what a good setter does. ushioi and oikage are so rife with history and bad blood and competitiveness and hurt pride, I can only imagine how so good it is to write and read about the journey they take to make it to an end where the 2 characters are together and united. sometimes the journey fraught with strife is just as delicious as the happy ending.
I can't rmr the exact moment I started shipping iwaoi, just because it was so long ago, but prbably...I think it was probably when iwaizumi stopped oikawa from going to jail by committing manslaughter on poor little tobio when they were in middle school. and then yelling at him to go home and take care of his knee. iwaizumi's palpable concern masked as anger was so...yeah, i was like damn oikawa if you don't wife that guy up, I will.
and lastly, all iwaoi scenes are my fav, just bc we get so little, but my favs have to be the "you're a partner I can be proud of" scene; the "when oikawa feels threatened, there's only one person he sets to" scene, set up by Kageyama himself; the scene where oikawa points at iwaizumi for his last ever set in highschool and then proceeds to do an insane long ass set from across the court straight to iwaizumi: and lastly, the little sketch where iwaizumi is showing oikawa a book of fish and there's one named 'oikawa', looking so pleased with himself while oikawa is just like "..."

Bokuaka Fluff/Angst w/ Hurt/Comfort
Word count: 417
Here is some fluff because I fear you all need it with how much angst people post of these two boys.
Tw for handling mental health and slight references to BPD.
Tumblr media
Keiji knew that most nights, his boyfriend let the monster in his head come forward, he let the negative thoughts overtake him until all that was left was his Koutarou curled up in their bed, nothing more than numbness present on his soft features.
He didn’t like it like that.
He liked his boyfriend to be happy, just like Koutarou did him.
So when he walked into their bedroom after a long day of work, and noticed his boyfriend curled up under a heap of blankets, he knew he had to defeat the big bad monster in Kou’s head.
“Kou.” He called softly as he walked towards their shared bed, bringing the blankets down away from his face softly with a small smile.
“Hi love.” Koutarou smiled weakly at him - Keiji immediately knew it was his form of trying to play off as okay. He didn’t like that. He wanted Koutarou to be open with him and honest about how he’s feeling.
He knew that Koutarou likely did not want to talk about it right now, so he chose to instead shrug off his coat and climb into bed with him, pulling the blankets over him and grabbing his large lover and moving his head to rest in the crook of his neck. He tilted his head forward ever so slightly to press kisses into his flattened hair, tangling his fingers through them every few seconds.
“Did you have a bad day?”
A small shift in his head confirmed that.
“You’re amazing, darling. My amazing ace, the best ace, in fact.” When Koutarou made a noise of reluctance, which he hated (he hated when Koutarou didn’t see himself as the best, because he was in Keiji’s eyes) he struggled to keep the lump rising up his throat down. “You are. You’re so funny, and kind. You feel so many emotions for everyone around you and I love you for that, Kou. I love you.”
He smiled as Koutarou cuddled further into him. “Do you think you’re amazing, Koutarou?”
It had been a method Koutarou’s therapist had suggested they try out, and so far it had worked wonders.
“Maybe.”
That was progress.
“I think you’re amazing. The way you spike the ball and shock everyone watching you shows how incredible you are. My incredible boyfriend.”
Koutarou’s lips turned upwards.
“Do you think you’re amazing, Koutarou?” He asked again.
His boyfriend turned to face him.
“Yes. I’m amazing, but only because you help me every step of the way.”
Tumblr media
Hope you enjoyed! It's short but I NEED FLUFF IN MY LIFE

#bokuaka | illness implied, hurt/comfort? angst?
Keiji doesn't know how long he's been inside his car, staring at the emptiness of the parking lot. The words the doctor spoke have been running through his mind endlessly; he's still unable to comprehend what he just heard.
He feels lost, confused, afraid, helpless even. A mixture of emotions that causes his chest to hurt and his stomach twist.
He grabs his phone to check the time. It's already seven o'clock. Five hours had already passed since his appointment ended, but it felt like it had only been minutes.
"Koutarou must be home already," he said unconsciously.
Ah yes, Koutarou. He has to tell him.
Still feeling defeated, he decided to head home.
===
The moment he opened the door, he was greeted with a warm smile.
"Welcome home, Keiji!"
"I bought your favorite Onirigi from Tsum-tsum's brother," he continues.
"Thanks, Kou," he replied, and gave him a smile.
"How was your visit to the doctor, by the way? Did he say anything about why you keep having severe headaches? "
A lump in his throat formed because of the sudden question. He looked at him, opened his mouth to answer, but no words would come out.
He knows he has to tell him. He had every right to know what happened or what would happen, but in the end, he couldn't.
Sensing his distress, Koutarou guided him to the couch.
There was nothing but silence afterwards. He didn't urge him to speak, nor did he proceed to ask questions. He was just rubbing his back the whole time, helping him to calm down.
"Kou, if---" he cleared his throat, trying his best to stop his voice from breaking.
"If one day I wake up and I don't remember you, what would you do?"
The latter gently grabbed his hands and lovingly stared directly into his eyes.
"I'll make you remember."
"I'll make you remember every day."
"I'll make your favorite coffee every morning with less sugar and more cream," Koutarou says confidently.
I'll send you thousands of messages while you're at work, telling you about how good my spikes were or if the coach scolded me.
I'll call you at lunch to remind you to eat, because you don't eat unless someone tells you to.
At dinner, I'll make sure to get your favorite onigiri and ask you how your day went. "
He pulled him closer and held his face.
"Before we go to sleep, like always, I'll kiss you three times," he kissed his forehead, "One on your forehead," then his nose, "one on your nose," and then his lips, which lasted longer, "and one on your lips for a good night's sleep."
"Even if you still can't remember me or you no longer want by your side, I will never leave. My heart belongs to and will always be yours, Keiji. "
Keiji burst into tears, and his cries echoed across the room. He hugged him tighter like he never had before. Hearing those words, he was finally able to let go of the feelings he had been holding on to.
Is he still afraid? Yes, but he knows he has someone who'll help him get through, and that no matter what, he has Koutarou.

okay we’ve talked about akaashi and udai and makki being all at least mildly pathetic in the timeskip but what about atsumu. yes he’s a pro athlete but his jokes never land, no one listens to him, he embarrasses himself in front of teammates and fans alike, and then he ruminates about it for forever until the only thing he wants to do is crawl into a hole and never come out. he’s on tv all the time and still gets mistaken for his chef brother, whose restaurant he sometimes goes to to have semi-public freak-outs. one of the few people that can instill true fear in him is a rice farmer. and it’s hilarious.

fic recs 5 :)
more cock, fewer roaches. please. by Gray_Herring | M | 30.9K
sakuatsu. not as horny as the title suggests, i swear. sakusa’s apartment is being fumigated for bugs, so he stays at atsumu’s for a few days. actually very sweet and made me want to melt—sometimes Being Known is not such a mortifying ordeal.
In the Closet (and not in that way) by Hihoneyimdead | G | 4.4K
sakuatsu, vaguely american setting because of the au. atsumu is in marching band, sakusa is in color guard, and osamu locked them in a storage closet together for an hour. funny and also somewhat caters to my specific distaste for the “interfering outsider” trope bc they are full of spite and so am i <3
four ways to fall asleep by precious_red | T | 5.2K
arankita. a year after they’ve graduated, kita stays at aran’s apartment for a few days while they watch interhigh. warm and comforting like hot tea.
Up No More by venxvon | G | 7.7K
arankita are fake-dating, and when the team finds out, aran tries to clear up the story to akagi and oomimi. lots of humor, really fun.
from the earth by charcoalsuns | G | 1.9K
aran-centric character study and a relationship study with inarizaki, with plenty of team-as-family. the bookmark note i left was “ooughghghg,” which about sums it up.
one million rooms & one million vacancies by tothemoon | G | 919
bokuto-centric character study from over the years. i love bokuto so much oh my god you don’t understand he’s so important to me—
a little bit of chaos by desdemona | G | 2.9K
ushiten, kind of—more gen but with a heavy ushiten seasoning. tendou gets Ideas, and ushijima is an enabler; they’re Guys Being Dudes and semi gets to reluctantly play damage control.
all in due time by rosalyra | T | 8.9K
iwaoi. au where, when you turn 17, you can meet yourself from 10 years in the future. author’s tags say they “just want oikawa to know he’s happy and he made it” and yeah. Yeah.
the art of keeping up by sieges | T | 12.3K
sunaosa. osamu gets suna to help him write a love letter—the premise is inspired by the half of it (2020), which, if you haven’t seen, you should go watch Right Now. this one’s really pretty and whenever i read it i want to yell into the void for a while bc man. Man.
seven days of rain by gabstar | T | 4.4K
akaashi-centric character study and a bokuaka relationship study. bokuto loves the rain, and akaashi comes to find comfort in loving bokuto. mostly fluff and wonderfully written; feels like racing someone in the rain and laughing until your cheeks hurt. god. THEM.
when i get home by blessings | T | 4.5K
iwaoi. a series of phone calls over the years, each made to the other. humor, fluff, a little bit of angst—they love each other so much wagh
home, and how we built ours by orphan account | T | 2.9K
iwaoi move into an apartment together, and even though the place is a wreck, it’s theirs, and it’s home.
send your cutest delivery boy by hcjime | T | 4K
iwaoi. au where oikawa just wants to order a pizza, makki Interferes in the form of inputting the special instruction of “send your cutest delivery boy,” and iwaizumi happens to be the titular delivery boy. funny and sweet :)

fic recs 3
In Another Castle by thehoyden | E | 19K
kuroken move in together after they both graduate. domestic and sweet; They Are In Love.
Richer than milk, sweeter than honey by redroseinsanity | T | 3.6K
kuroken, fae au. kuroo bargains with kenma for the first time as a child and then keeps going back as time passes. some light horror elements, but by virtue of being them, they love each other a lot. straight up Vibes.
how to win at speed dating by Mooifyourecows | T | 7.2K
daisuga. daichi loses a bet with oikawa, and as punishment he has to take part in a speed-dating event, where he ends up meeting suga. i laughed out loud here a few times. the back-and-forth banter here is fantastic and daisuga’s dynamic is so good.
eggceeding eggspectstions by asyncrhony | G | 1.9K
the msby 4 and the schweiden adlers trio have an egg-eating contest. short and silly and maintains really fun character dynamics.
Three Stories by bumblebeesknees | G | 4.9K
iwaoi. oikawa gets a confession from one of the kids he works with and it spurs him on to make a confession of his own to iwaizumi. very soft and with lovely aftermath.
This Is for Your Own Good by metisket | T | 6.3K
daiyuisuga, sort of a suga character study featuring a michimiya-suga friendship and kagehina Causing Problems. funny and actually everything i’ve ever wanted in a daiyuisuga fic.
we happy few by owlinaminor | T | 1.3K
shiratorizawa-centric; a series of snapshots from shiratorizawa’s time together compiled by tendou. the bookmark note i left on this one was “WEEPS INTO MY HANDS” and. yeah. Yeah. this one is also illustrated!
the art of reaping what you sow by trapavoid | G | 5.4K
tsukkiyama and kagehina. tsukishima gets invested in kagehina’s bizarre will-they-won’t-they for reasons that are Definitely Not Projection and in doing so comes to Realizations about his feelings about yamaguchi. his voice in this is fantastic and the whole fic is really funny.
Your Money And/Or Your Life by suspiciousflashlight | T | 11K
suga pov. daisuga are basically married and play it up to benefit financially, [john mulaney voice] no other reason. their dynamic and characterizations here are absolute gold. lots of humor and wonderfully domestic. also features tanakiyo :)
Ask A Stupid Question by darkmagicalgirl | G | 2K
ennofuta. ennoshita, yahaba, shirabu, and futakuchi, as captains of their respective teams, are interviewed on tv and futakuchi decides to be a menace about it, partially for the sake of it, partially to get a reaction out of ennoshita. this one made me laugh!
better days to find by addandsubtract | T | 6.6K
ushiten. tendou is a witch and the fic explores, to an extent, his relationship with his magic and how he has to keep it under wraps while he continues to support ushijima as a friend and as a pro athlete. this fic is just. cozy. love is stored in the casual intimacy and homemade meals :)
Watermelon Sugar by Hihoneyimdead | T | 4.3K
sakuatsu fantasy au. sakusa is an assassin hired to kill the crown prince of inarizaki, but atsumu is unfortunately both clever and charming and sakusa finds himself, despite his best (?) efforts, charmed. their dynamic here is really fun. features side sunaosa.
a long unbroken light by brella | G | 2.2K
karasuno-centric. ukai watches the crows learn to fly across three summers. ;-;
pointing at the moon by amillionsmiles | G | 3.7K
tsukishima character study and a relationship study with his brother as they grow up, apart, and back together again. the writing is gorgeous and i want to ugly cry every time i read it.

for a while my question was “how does bokuto have both big brother and little brother energy at the same time” and i think i know the answer. he’s a youngest sibling but he’s also the cool older cousin at every family function that let you play on his phone and taught you how to do a cartwheel and made a competition out of making faces at each other behind the adults’ backs whenever conversation at the table got boring

soda can blues by kitouma | T | 1.6K
pre-relationship osasuna. [annoying little sibling voice] oooooh suna has a cruuuush!

kuroken. kuroo helps kenma retouch his roots. this fic is very beautifully done; it’s about the Pining.
dog days by devote | G | 9.6K
iwaoi relationship study as they grow up together. Holy Shit, my Feelings. the prose and the flow are fantastic here; in the author’s words, “love is stored in the iwaizumi.”
Under Pressure by ghostystarr | G | 8.2K
sakuatsu. bokuto and hinata notice sakusa’s crush on atsumu and decide to take it upon themselves to coach him on how to flirt. all parties involved do an absolutely abysmal job. funny and sweet in equal measure :)

iwaoi. iwaizumi and the shapes his love for oikawa takes over the years. ough.
Sunday morning rain is falling by Hyeyu | T | 1.5K
iwaoi. oikawa goes through some fan mail, iwaizumi loves him, and the two of them spend the morning together in their kitchen. warm and domestic
most people never even get a single high school rival by sulfate | G | 5.2K
team argentina gets an outsiders’ glimpse of iwaoi. this whole fic is, i think, the author’s love letter to oikawa, iwaoi, and the series itself, and MAN is it good. this is another one of my all-time favorites!!
Jump the Gap by fathomfive | G | 1.3K
people don’t like to sit next to aone on the train; futakuchi realizes this one morning and decides to keep him company in all his glory. excellent characterization and a wonderful depiction of their friendship. aone is So important to me.
We’ll Figure That Out When We Get There by fathomfive | G | 2.2K
moniwa runs into a bit of trouble in a train station and the rest of datekou take it upon themselves to help. a delightful read; moniwa is Very tired and datekou’s a team—they have each other’s backs!
Close to the Chest by darkmagicalgirl | T | 61.2K
yahaba character study centered around him, his sexuality, and growing up. some kyouhaba and side iwaoi. MAN was this one good; the pacing, the prose, the depth of the emotions—all incredible. please note that this deals quite a bit with homophobia though
an unlikely duo by miracleboysatori | G | 1.7K
au where yachi goes to shiratorizawa and she and tendou end up bonding and becoming friends. short and sweet ^_^
by jove (we are going to own this thing for sure) by owlinaminor | T | 1.5K
ushiten enjoy their mornings together, and tendou’s a bit of a nerd. domestic and soft.
soft blue by groaninlynch | G | 6K
bokuaka. bokuto finds akaashi’s sketchbook by accident. a very sweet depiction of their dynamic; they like each other so much.

Long Live

by Raven_Stark_22
Bokuto's dream has always been to become a knight. He's practiced for years with the sword, witnessed numerous duels during the city fairs, and hid behind the walls to watch masters teach the nobles how to deal with the enemy. Just as the opportunity to fulfill his wish seems to reach the doors, a stranger seeking help takes refuge in the same inn where Bokuto is dining. The boy tells of coming from a distant kingdom and having to complete a task of maximum secrecy that involves a long journey to the most dangerous places on the continent. It will be up to Bokuto and his companions to face battles and supernatural creatures to prevent a catastrophic war between kingdoms.
 (it's a multiship-fic, but mostly bokuaka/iwaoi/kuroken)

The first time they hold hands, Bokuto squeezes a little tighter than he should.
Granted, it’s not the first time his hands have made contact with Akaashi’s own. Tournaments became an opportunity for spontaneous high fives, practice matches gave leeway for fist bumps and the everyday normality of school allowed for constant accidental touches.
That’s the thing about Bokuto though: he loves reaching out for things. His sisters had to keep him away from anything within arms length when he was a baby (otherwise he would have likely shoved it in his mouth-), he seizes opportunities when they come, and victory—dancing along the tips of his fingers, he can almost grasp victory if he tries hard enough.
This however, where his hands are genuinely, quite literally intertwined with Akaashi’s own, Bokuto thinks he needs a moment.
They are given a moment, in the small corner of the arena, trying to ease the heightened adrenaline from a terribly close match, Bokuto finds Akaashi’s hands in his own.
The first time they hold hands, it’s not what Bokuto expects, for Akaashi’s hands are shaking, and the panic from such overthinking has yet to subside. Akaashi’s hands are shaking terribly so, and Bokuto can only do so much.
Fukurodani leaves them be once more in understanding, patting Akaashi’s shoulders as a means of support. Bokuto’s presence alone is an extension of that very same support, perhaps even more.
With every flinch of Akaashi’s fingers, Bokuto’s own would soothe the areas, his thumbs rubbing circles just as much.
The first time they hold hands, Bokuto squeezes a little tighter than he should, and Akaashi squeezes just as tight.
The first time they hold hands, it’s not what Bokuto expects nor is it particularly how he wanted things to play out, but it left an opportunity to fully see this version of him, a far cry from the Akaashi he knew, but he was Akaashi all the same, and Bokuto takes anything, any moment, he can get to understand him.
If Bokuto tilts their hands just a little bit more, he could make up the scars on Akaashi’s hands left by his fiddling, a reflection of pent up anxiety and frustration but still a magnitude worth of effort to be the setter Fukurodani could depend on, that Bokuto could depend on.
If Bokuto recalls, he could remember all the bandages wrapped around Akaashi’s hands just as much, a reminder of all the late night volleyball practices Akaashi wanted (not had, never had) to be part of.
If Bokuto looks straight into Akaashi’s eyes right now, he could think of how much he’s wanted this, to initiate something as kind as holding hands.
As if seconds have dwindled down for this very moment, as if every force in the universe has neatly tied a red string of fate across each others fingers and pulled. Constantly and thoroughly it pulled until finally–finally they’re hands reached out for the other and filled in the gaps that the other has been missing, has been yearning for far too long.
A quote from a cool book once told him to seize the moment, as if your life depends on it. Hold unto things, grab unto them especially when you truly believe that it matters.
Bokuto will always try to reach out for something. A Nationals victory for one, is high on his list but should it fall from his grasp, then their lost and agonizing on it shouldn’t be something that matters in the long run. For there will always be plenty more times to reach for the stars.
So Bokuto holds unto this part of Akaashi with all his might.
He holds unto Akaashi with all his might. For he’s sure, without a doubt, he hasn’t lost sight of something that truly matters to him.

Basicallyiwriteshit's Haikyuu fic masterpost
I'm bored at 3 am you know what that means! it's time to compartmentalize all of my my hq!! fics on ao3. Please note that some of these were written as far back as 2015 when I was 15- they may not be good but I keep them up because some people may still want to read them. These will be ordered oldest to newest.
Fluff/feel-good fics (rated for general audiences, up to teen)
Kei's phone: Kuroo and Bokuto snoop and find that Tsukishima has a soft spot for two things: brunettes and their dogs.
Since I've heard your voice: big bang 2016 piece about Tsukishima being cursed by a witch and needing "true loves kiss" to break the spell.
To fall in love: Tsukishima realizes his crush on Yamaguchi while reading romance manga.
Just despicable: office worker AU where everyone thinks tsukkiyama are cheating on their spouses with the other....only, their spouses are each other.
Taking flight, flying to new heights: tsukkiyama gift exchange 2017 piece featuring band AUs, mild hurt/comfort, and figure skating AUs.
A series of...fortunate events?: an ushiyama meet-cute featuring amnesia and a caring Ushijima.
Because the future's brighter with you: tsukkiyama week dribbles featuring meet-cutes, established relationship fluff, and dnd.
The one where Tanaka loves his boyfriend: Just Tanka loving on his boyfriend, Ennoshita.
Press record and tell me your feelings: Influencer AU. Tsukkiyama, kiyoyachi, ennotana, kuroken, bokuaka. Completed.
Stalemate: Sakuatsu fake dating au featuring meddling MSBY Black Jackals. Mild hurt/comfort to come, but eventual happy ending. Ongoing.
Open Doors: Tsukkiyama professors AU
Full Sentences: Kuroken, can be read as romantic or platonic. Nekoma reminisce about their first words. Kuroo is delighted to tell them Kenma’s.
Nobody: Tsukkiyama Valentine’s Day fic. Mostly canon compliant, post-timeskip, fluffy domestic bliss.
Hello, my old heart: Jump-cut to uni, and Tsukishima is absolutely, undeniably smitten. He can't help but stare, and that leads to some teasing from Yamaguchi- and an...unexpected new fact about his best friend.
Angst, hurt/comfort/pain (gen. audiences, teen)
That makes you the ace, right?: Tsukishima and his anguish at being lied to by Akiteru. Happy ending.
Cut: tsukkiyama acting in one of Ennoshita's films gets a little too personal. Happy ending.
Codependent, maybe: Yamaguchi gets insecure about his codependency on his best friend and boyfriend, so he calls it quits. No one likes that idea. Happy ending. (Side note: I hate that troupe of Yamaguchi being the insecure one, but this fic stays up because of ONE (1) comment in the bookmarks of this fic)
Never had to wait: ennotana, post-timeskip Tanaka emotionally and then eventually physically cheats on Kiyoko when he meets up with Ennoshita again by chance. Open/ambiguous ending.
Secrets, secrets: Parent-Trap-esque miya twins angst where they're separated very young and don't know they're twins until they're trying to make it in life and reporters keep asking them about each other. No happy ending/ambiguous ending.
Not your part, but all your fault: Sakuatsu get-together fix. A deep look into Sakusa's mental illness and why he feels he can't ever have a relationship- until Miya Atsumu. Mild hurt/comfort, direct mentions of being ill/throwing up, OCD and related disorders. Eventual happy ending.
Growing Apart: Miya twins character study. Open-ended, no actual plot just angsty thought.
A rose by any other name (would be as sweet): Delinquent!Yamaguchi manages to get the attention of not only karasuno's boys volleyball team as a whole, but of Tsukishima Kei. But he can't accept his feelings without accepting himself first. Internalized homophobia, mild violence, child neglect, parental loss. Eventual happy ending.
18+ rating 🔞 (some teen, some mature, some explicit)
Little red riding hood(ie): Yamaguchi is caught by a curious creature walking home late at night. Only features heavy petting, mildly dubious consent.
Deception: Daichi gets the entire Karasuno team to masturbate in front of one another with a little ruse involving a fleshlight. Heavily kinky, dubious consent. Characters aren't aged up but also author was 17 when they wrote it.
Arms tonight: an edging fic w an ironic title. Tsukkiyama fic based off of arms tonite by Mother Mother. Edging, overstim, dom/sub, choking, toy use, blowjobs.
Loving is easy: kinktober 2021 oneshots for various hq ships. I made my own list! Heed the warnings and tags
Omegaverse (teen & up)
Our starlight: dark au centering around Yamaguchi finding a lost civilization that won't let him leave. TW for dark themes such as kidnapping, cults, forced marriage/mating, rape, violence. Ongoing. 🔞
Jealousy: Tsukishima gets jealous when another alpha gropes Yamaguchi at the club. Minor assault warning, dubious consent due to alcohol consumption and pheromones. 🔞
Potentially triggering content that doesn’t fit in another category (read at your own risk)
The loyal knight: AU where the seijoh boys are training to be knights. Demons, violence. (One of my favorites I've ever posted)
How an angel loses it wings: AU where Yamaguchi is an angel sent to bring fallen angel Kuroo back to the Light. Misuse of the Christian bible, angels and demons, suggestiveness, religious imagery.

Sick Akaashi & Caretaker Bokuto Headcanons!!
Bc they’re my faves & I love them.
—————————
Hello! I’m back for a little. Thank you for your patience as I work through my personal issues!! I can’t guarantee that I’m back back, but I felt like writing this, so I took the feeling and ran.
I didn’t plan for this to inspire me to write a fic, but honestly it really did so you’ll probably get a fic that’s like this.
Anyway...here ya go!!
TW: bokuaka fluff & mentions of vomiting, nausea, and headache
The thing about their relationship (and it’s always freaked everyone out) is that they just know how to take care of each other. Neither of them has to say what they need. The other just knows. It’s not like they can’t take care of themselves; if the other isn’t around, the problem still get solved, but resolution comes a lot quicker and with a lot more comfort if they help each other out because they almost just force each other to do what needs to be done without any run around.
This comes in handy particularly when Akaashi is sick. While Bokuto is pretty vocal about when he’s not feeling well, Akaashi tries to keep to himself. He’s not trying to hide it. He probably doesn’t even realize he’s sick. He just knows his patience is running thin aand he’s just trying to keep from hurting anyone’s feelings.
Bc I feel like while Akaashi’s generally very quiet, he’s subtly chaotic. He’s the kind of guy that always quietly says things that make people stop and go “wtf?” And sometimes that means he’s whispering chaotic and idiotic ideas to others to try and get them to do something crazy.
But when he’s not feeling well, he kind of retreats into himself because his filter disappears and the normally fun, teasing comments may come out meaner and harsher than he means them. He still does what he needs to do and responds to things when appropriate, and he doesn’t make a big fuss, but he’s subdued. Mostly because he knows he has less control of his brain and tongue, and doesn’t want to worry about his normal sarcastic comments coming out more viscously than normal.
For a while, he didn’t think anyone noticed. After all, he’s a calm, quiet person anyway. It couldn’t be that different. But not his team. The team notices the lack of sarcastic, fire-starting comments, and they just know that something is wrong, even if their setter looks otherwise normal.
They all try to figure out what’s wrong in round about ways, but Akaashi just laughs quietly, or responds with a straight forward answer, so eventually they just give up. Eventually, Bokuto—the only person who’s strangely left him alone all practice—calls him out on his weird behavior and just straight up asks him and Akaashi is so stunned, that he just admits that he’s not feeling well without hesitation. Bokuto scolds him for coming to practice, but asks him what’s wrong and somehow knows exactly how to take care of Akaashi respective to the answer he’s given.
If he has a headache, it’s almost certainly from tension and it starts in the back of his head and works it’s way to his jaw and cheekbones, which is why he doesn’t talk much. Bokuto makes him sit out the rest of practice and has Yukie give him one of her famous shoulder massages to ease the tension out of his wound up body.
If he has a fever, he’s probably colder than usual and his patience a little thin, so he just bites his tongue when people talk to him so he doesn’t snap at them unnecessarily. He hates being cold and hates how his limbs ache and his head is foggy and how he has no energy, so he knows if he speaks it’ll be more sarcastic than normal and with more venom than needed. Bokuto makes him call his mom to come pick him up and forces him to go sit in the club room where it’s quiet and he can bundle up in other people’s warm up jackets while he waits.
If Akaashi is nauseous, it’s a little trickier. If it’s just simple nausea, with no other symptoms, Bokuto can usually just get him to sit out the rest of practice. But if he has a fever too, then things get dicey.
Akaashi doesn’t like throwing up, so he’s probably been trying to ignore the feeling. He probably hasn’t eaten more than what’s required of him to keep living. These two things together make for a very grumpy, very disheveled setter. Sure, he still tries to bite his tongue and remain normal, but the smallest thing could set him off and it would probably end up in whoever pissed him off in tears. Bokuto has to be a little more forward and a little more captain-like in this case. He’s comfortable enough with Akaashi to know that whatever insult comes out of his mouth is not sincere and he escorts the protesting setter outside in the fresh air and wraps him in a jacket and sits with him until the setter’s mom shows up. All the while, Akaashi grounds out sarcastic comments quietly while leaning into Bokuto and Bokuto just laughs and rubs his head.
The really really big issue is if Akaashi has a fever, a headache, and he’s nauseous to the point of thinking he may throw up. Bokuto really has to step in here. Akaashi isn’t stupid, so Bokuto knows that he wouldn’t have come to practice if he’d felt that bad all day, so it must have snuck up on him and he’s too dense to really diagnose himself as probably having the flu. It’s more evident to the team that he’s genuinely sick bc he’s pale and flushed and dazed. And angry. Not at anyone in particular, but at himself. Because he’s pale and flushed and dazed. And his arms and legs are sore for some reason he doesn’t understand and his head hurts, but it’s not his normal tension headache and everything is foggy and loud. Needless to say, his team stays away and waits for Bokuto to step in.
Bokuto tries to step in. He really does. But Akaashi isn’t as forthcoming about what’s wrong, so Bokuto doesn’t know what route to take. It’s not until he sees Akaashi suppressing tiny, breathy burps behind a hand that he knows what’s wrong. By that point, Akaashi is drained. He doesn’t want to be standing anymore. He doesn’t feel well at all and he just needs enough energy to tell someone what’s wrong and ask to leave, but he’s too afraid to open his mouth. That’s usually about the time Bokuto marches up to him and gently puts a hand on his cheek and frowns when he finds the fever there. Akaashi, relieved that someone has come to rescue him from his own stupidity, starts crying. Bokuto pulls him into a hug and lets him cry for a minute and tries to warm up his shivering body. Then he leads Akaashi outside the gym and into the club room, where they’ll wait together for the nausea to pass (or for him to puke) and then Bokuto calls Akaashi’s mom to come pick him up.
Akaashi doesn’t like throwing up, so if it comes to that, it’s bad. He resists and maybe he cries silently, but he obstinately refuses to even look at a bin or a bucket. He chokes down heaves and gags and whimpers and pants. Bokuto usually just sighs and tries to coax him into letting things happen, but Akaashi refuses, so Bokuto just makes sure that a bin is within arms reach of himself and waits for the inevitable.
When he finally does throw up, it’s seemingly without warning for the setter, but Bokuto is prepared and manages to get the bin under his chin just in time. Akaashi is pretty quiet, save for some gaspy breaths, airy hiccups, and the occasional wet burp. But unfortunately for him, he’s not really a one and done kind of guy. It usually takes him a few rounds before he gets everything up and by then, he’s so traumatized that he’s given up control and finally just lets Bokuto take care of him.
The routine doesn’t change much after they graduate. The year that Akaashi is still in high school and Bokuto isn’t there, someone usually tries to call or text him if Akaashi is being weird. If he can answer, he talks to Akaashi and whatever the problem is gets taken care of. It’s not like Akaashi needs Bokuto to tell him what to do. But Bokuto just kind of gives him the push he needs to do it.
When Akaashi graduates, he moves to Osaka and lives near the MSBY dorms and tries to take care of himself if he gets sick, but Bokuto somehow always knows, and is at Akaashi’s door as soon as he can get away from practice.

And Go Seek
characters: regressed!Bokuto Koutarou, caregiver!Akaashi Keiji
pairings: bokuaka
themes: age regression, mild hurt/comfort
warnings: none
"Koutarou, please come out?" Akaashi cooed, hoping it would entice Bokuto to end his impromptu hide-and-seek game. They had set up rules against this; Akaashi promised Bokuto he would count however long he wanted for him to have enough time to hide. And in return, Bokuto had to promise not to try and hide in any of the Banned Hiding Places. Akaashi seriously thought he was going to have to call the fire department that one time Bokuto got stuck trying to fit into the dryer-- the kid would forget he was in an adult body sometimes when regressed. Fortunately, he had managed to calm Bokuto down enough to coach him out of the dryer.
Unfortunately, Bokuto had a mischievous streak and sometimes liked to surprise Akaashi, and it wasn't always a 'good' surprise. Akaashi started to worry that the little might be getting into trouble, or worse-- hurt. That wasn't likely though, because however much Bokuto insisted he was a tough kiddo, he cried at even the slightest scrapes. With that thought put safely from his mind, Akaashi turned down their hallway and started peeking into the rooms. It was time to switch tactics.
"Hm.... What do you call a monkey when you take its bananas?" He called. He doubted Bokuto would give himself away by asking why, so he just paused for a bit before giving the answer: "Furious George!"
Akaashi waited to hear giggling, thinking Bokuto would at least laugh because the joke was stupid, but ... Nothing. Dang, Bokuto was really getting good at playing hide and seek when he was regressed!
Akaashi stepped further down the hall, sighing. "It's too bad Bokuto's not around, I guess I have to eat all this barbecue by myself!" ...Still nothing. Either Bokuto was calling his bluff, or he was doing something he shouldn't be, and was really scared of Akaashi finding out. The feeling of dread in the pit of Akaashi's stomach only grew.
It was time to call backup. Akaashi tapped the green phone icon on his cell phone and held it up to his ear. "Kuroo? I need your help."
"Sure thing, Akaashi, whatcha got for me?" Kuroo responded.
"Bokuto's decided to play a spontaneous game of hide-and-go-seek. I can't find him, and none of the usual tactics are working. ... Yes, I tried bribing him with food."
Akaashi waited while Kuroo thought and rambled off Bokuto's favorite places to hide: Under his bed, in his bed disguised as a lump of blankets, in the pantry, behind the living room curtains.... Akaashi glanced around at each spot as Kuroo listed it, each one devoid of any sign a tiny Bokuto was hiding there.
"What about... the linen closet? One time i found him squeezed under the bottom shelf in a pile of blankets." Kuroo deadpanned. Akaashi trotted over to the linen closet at the end of the hallway, and gently opened the door. Sure enough, Bokuto had wedged himself under the bottom shelf and made a little nest of blankets and towels he had unfolded. He was fast asleep. Well, that would explain why none of the regular tactics worked.
"He's here. Thanks, Kuroo." Akaashi whispered into the phone, feeling as though the situation were now delicate. It wasn't actually necessary to be quiet. Bokuto was a heavy sleeper, and it took a lot to wake him up.
"No problem, Akaashi." Kuroo whispered back, almost mocking him. The two said their goodbyes and hung up, and Akaashi decided to let Bokuto sleep for a bit. He probably really needed a nap. There was also no way Akaashi would be able to move him to a comfier place.
. . . .
Trying to stretch and failing, Bokuto wiggled around a little, trying to get comfortable, but finally just woke up. "'KAASHI????" he panicked, forgetting that he had put himself in this mess while trying to hide.
Akaashi jumped up from his seat on the couch and started heading down the hallway to the linen closet. "Yes, baby, I'm right here." He responded, using a level, calm tone to soothe his regressor.
"'Kaashi..." Bokuto blubbered, wriggling his way out of his nest to cling to Akaashi. Akaashi rubbed his back until his breathing evened out, and then moved back from Bokuto so he could see his face.
"Koutarou. Do you remember our rules about hide-and-seek?" Akaashi asked sternly.
"Y-yes..." Bokuto whimpered, sensing he was in trouble.
"You gotta let 'Kaashi know when you wanna play hide-and-seek, okay? Otherwise 'Kaashi's not gonna know to come look for you and you'll be all alone, you know?"
Bokuto only responded by tearing up again and sobbing apologies into Akaashi's shoulder, so that was probably a sign of a lesson learned. Bokuto did have to learn some things the hard way, and Akaashi wasn't afraid to point out "the hard way" to him when he needed reminding.
Akaashi let him cry into his shoulder for a bit longer, rocking him slightly in their embrace. "Koucchan..?" He hushed, using a cute nickname to show he wasn't mad. Bokuto looked at him with a tear-stained face, waiting to see what his caregiver had to say. "You wanna help me fold all this? Then we can watch a movie, if you like."
Bokuto pouted, but knew he didn't have a choice. He made the mess; Akaashi was always teaching him that messes can't be left lying around. He picked up a towel and waited for Akaashi to show him how to fold it, receiving encouragement for being proactive. Akaashi cooed over Bokuto to help him feel better about messing up, and praised him for being responsible and helping him clean up the mess he'd made.
Before long, the towels and blankets were all folded, with the exception of one of the blankets. Bokuto got fussy towards the end of all the folding and Akaashi decided to compromise by letting them use the blanket for their movie night. Akaashi suggested they watch Toy Story 1, since that one didn't make Bokuto cry as much as some of their other kids movies. He had done enough crying for today.
After tucking Bokuto in on the couch, Akaashi got up to make them some snacks, returning to Bokuto excitedly complaining that he was missing it. "'Kaashi!! It's da birthday party!! You're missing Andy's Birthday!!" He exclaimed. Akaashi just smiled as Bokuto lifted up an edge of the blanket for him to crawl under, patting it down on his lap when he had settled in.

Bokuto Being A Happy Owl, 5 Times in a Row

summary:
5 times Bokuto was a happy owl, and 1 time Akaashi was too.
---
1 - Taking Food Without Feeling the Need to Hide or Show Aggression
“Akaashi! Akaashi!” Bokuto sang, like a bird repeating a tune - it hardly still sounded like a name. He said it so often, crowing it repetitively like a chick in the nest, that it felt more like a gust of wind or a poem in a foreign language.
“Mmm?” Akaashi hummed, indicating he was listening to his boyfriend, but his eyes were still trained down on the paper plate in his lap as he sliced the yakiniku into edible strips of pure, thick, barbecued meat. Kou’s favourite. Kou had a lot of favourites, he was frankly very opinionated - he had a favourite multiple of 7, even (49) - but his favourite person, favourite teammate, favourite thing in the whole wide world, was Akaashi Keiji, and he made sure Akaashi knew it.
“Did you see that AWESOME cut shot I did the other day? Didya? Didya Akaashi?”
“Yes, Bokuto-san,” he continued, still not looking up, stabbing a piece of meat with his plastic fork and lifting it up to Bokuto’s mouth. Bokuto took it between his teeth eagerly, chewing, continuing to talk, “it was a fluke! I bet I could do it again though Akaashi. You gotta let me try again!”
Akaashi nodded, sort of listening and sort of not, still slicing meat to feed to his overactive boyfriend.
“Come here,” he said, positioning the meat in front of Kou’s face, staring subconsciously into his golden eyes. With a bright, beaming, 24-karat smile, Bokuto opened his mouth as wide as he could.
“Really guys? There are first years here,” muttered Kuroo, tired of third-wheeling their overly wholesome relationship. He was slightly jealous of how easily they displayed affection in public, but mostly he was just… so, so tired. Like, c’mon guys. We get it, you love each other. Jesus.
Through chewing, Bokuto somehow managed to reply, “you wish you had what we have.”
Kuroo really, really didn’t.
Okay, maybe a little, but that was a whole other thing.
2 - Gently Using Beak, Feet and Talons
Bokuto liked being little spoon. He felt safe, with Akaashi's arms wrapped around him like a mother goose protecting a gosling. He liked when Akaashi nuzzled his nose into the crook of his neck.
But he liked being big spoon, too - he was a big guy, 6'1", 78 kilos of pure muscle - and he felt so powerful when his huge, muscular arms cradled Akaashi, a nest of blankets above them, his face breathing warmly into Akaashi’s space. When Akaashi’s feathery locks brushed his nose, he felt so safe, and felt like Kaashi was safe too.
He wasn’t the most… immobile cuddler. Something about the way Bokuto was meant that he really struggled to stay still - so when he snuggled with Akaashi, his boyfriend, light of his life, protagonist of his world, he couldn’t help but fidget, his feet twitching occasionally, his fingernails running lightly over Akaashi’s tummy and drawing shapes and writing names gently on his skin. His nails weren’t sharp, exactly, but they were pointed, and when he would slightly scratch how much he cared into Kaashi’s flesh, the marks would stay a little while, even though they never hurt.
Kaashi’s skin was fragile, see. He bruised easily, often ending up with bruised legs and no idea how the bruises even got there (turns out Bo kicked calmly when he dreamed). Keiji having such sensitive skin was both a joy and a pain in the butt - Bokuto loved it when he could see his biting kisses still on his setter’s shoulders from the night before, but more than once it had led to uncomfortable confrontations in the clubroom.
Kotarou was always very placid with his angel; he feared harming this delicate, not frail exactly but certainly not robust, beautiful dove of a man. Akaashi was a clear, ripple-less lake, a cloudless sky, a gliding bird, a swan in flight, and Bokuto treasured every raindrop of time they spent together.
When they huddled together, on a couch or in Akaashi’s too-small bed, Bokuto always was so, so patient with Akaashi, so gentle, his hands roaming less like jeeps and more like kingfishers searching for a flower to drink from. His feather-light kisses trailed from Akaashi’s cheeks, to his neck, to his forearms, all the way up his long, talon-like fingers, where they rested ever so carefully against the pads of Akaashi’s fingertips.
With Bokuto curled so meticulously, so caringly around his spine, Bo’s arms like powerful wings extending from his body and curled flush around his torso, Akaashi felt safe. He felt loved. He felt, as Kotarou’s biceps pressed just a little too heavily against him, that he belonged with those dull nails against his tummy, and the bouncing feet against his calves, and the kisses lighting sparks in his heart. He belonged there, with Bokuto. And there he planned on staying.
3 - Allopreening
Another practise match against Nekoma. Another narrow victory.
The team captain squatted on the gym floor, his body so low to the ground, but just high enough for him to tuck his feet underneath himself. Sweat stained through his uniform - it was lucky they wore black, or the marks would be more than obvious - and his hair gel was slipping, horns deflating with exhaustion rather than emotion.
Akaashi couldn’t help but stare at him. He was only sitting two or so feet away, on the bench, chugging water from his bottle, admiring the glistening of Bokuto’s arms, the way his broad chest heaved with hard breaths, the way his slick hair started to fall from it’s heavy-sprayed position.
Keiji loved Bokuto’s hair. Sure, it was pretty when it was down, but Bokuto never felt more like himself than when his locks were shaped into a crown, with his face like a bird's nest settled comfortably in the crook between branches. It was more genuine, like that - he just wasn’t himself when his hair was down. He even slept with the horns, for goodness’ sake - it can’t have been good for his hair, but he liked it that way. With his hair up like that, he was just so unapologetically Bokuto , and that was all that Keiji wanted, and all that Keiji loved.
Kotarou’s golden eyes looked up to find Akaashi, not glaring exactly, but he always had that harsh face. In reality, he was looking with infatuation, obsession, a love so overwhelming it consumed his every moment. Bokuto had gotten used to this. At first he thought the looks were aggressive, or reproachful, but he learned with time that those hard, expressionless looks simply meant that Akaashi valued him above everything else. Above volleyball, above gold, above the future and the world - to Akaashi, Bokuto was worth all of it and more. His heart was pure, and it belonged to Bo, and to him alone.
“Hey,” he offered, still attempting to catch his breath, his hair elevating ever so slightly as his eyes locked with his setter’s.
“Hey.”
His hand reached out, gentle as water on a lake, to close the distance between them. His nails landed just above Akaashi’s hairline, wiping sweat away from his face haphazardly, trying not to mess up his fringe.
“You had some sweat there.”
“I’ve got sweat everywhere, Bokuto-san.”
Kotarou smiled, just a little, lifting himself so his face was in Keiji’s, and he started using the hem of his shirt to mop at Keiji’s pinking face.
When he lifted the cloth, his abdomen poked out, his belly button searing itself into Kaashi’s vision, the chiseled and tight muscle - born from hours upon hours of workout routines - seeming to reflect the artificial golden light from the gym’s strip lights and making him look a little more blessed than usual. With a body like that, Kotarou could do whatever he wanted, seduce anyone he wanted, play any sport or perform any role (that was, assuming said role was of a member of the Greek pantheon). He was just- he was- that torso- if the gods have ever visited Earth, then Bokuto, with his wings and his horns and his claws and his abs (oh man, his abs) was their last true descendant. His swan-like grace as he flew up to spike, and that eagle’s eye precision… he was a tengu , for sure.
And then the shirt lowered, and Akaashi snapped back into focus, and now he was sweating more, only this time it wasn’t from the game.
4 - Preening, Feaking and Bathing
Was it unusual for Kotarou to sing in the shower?
No.
Was it unusual for Kotarou to leave the door unlocked when he showered?
Also no - apparently he was paranoid about slipping in the tub and ending up dead on the tile.
Was it unusual for Kotarou to attempt to write songs as he showered, the door wide open, cawing loudly about Akaashi’s eyes?
Yes.
He stood in Akaashi’s bathroom (he was staying with him for the weekend - Keiji’s parents were thrilled to see Bokuto again, and he was allowed to use their shower whenever he pleased), soap suds all over his body, massaging his pecs with moisturising body wash. He wasn’t wearing clothes, and Akaashi knew he shouldn’t stare, but with the way he was smiling and singing- “and his EEEEEEEYES, they’re like… uh, hold on, what rhymes with eyes-” and his body was covered with bubbles, Akaashi couldn’t really help it.
“Akaashi!”
Keiji took a second, and then realised Bokuto - oh, beautiful, handsome, magical Bokuto, Bokuto who moved like the wind, Bokuto who smiled like the sun and kissed like flower petals and laughed like birdsong - was talking to him, gesturing, flapping his hand and suggesting Akaashi joined him.
“C’mon! Can you help me with my hair?”
Keiji felt his cheeks flare up - Bokuto asked him to share a bathroom, to stand together with nothing but hot water and steam between them, and- and he asked him to touch-
Letting out a strangled hum of agreement, sounding like a chick that hadn’t yet found its song, Akaashi pushed himself forward, stripping down and filling his hands with shampoo. As Bokuto knelt down, so Keiji could better massage the shampoo into his hair, Akaashi couldn't stop himself from dwelling on the stretch marks on his biceps and thighs, where he'd gained so much muscle in so little time that his body just couldn't keep up. The slightly purple, pulled skin just made his wingspan look larger, the muscle more toned and defined  (not that he needed it), the strong body even more beautiful and unique and Bokuto .
Bokuto played enthusiastically with the bubbles as Akaashi’s long fingers ran through his iridescent silver-black hair, using them to make it look as if he had the world’s fluffiest beard, and then covering his hands in bubbles and pretending they were some form of water magic.
It was so endearing. He was so at ease, and the world seemed to follow - the shower water wasn’t as harsh and biting as it was when Akaashi was alone, and the sunshine from the small frosted window kept making a dappled spotlight flicker on and off Bokuto’s statuesque arms.
Massaging lotion into his boyfriend’s shoulders, Akaashi thought to himself.
Hm, he thought. When Michelangelo sculpted his masterpiece, this must’ve been what drove him.
5 - Content Vocalisations and Standing on One Foot
The whistling of the kettle filled Bokuto’s small kitchen, the high pitch interrupted as Keiji lifted it and poured his and his boyfriend’s morning tea - calming chamomile for him, berry for Bokuto - and the placid tune of the radio drifted hazily through the room like a mating tune for dawn-rising birds. The windows were open, and the dew that rested in the air felt clean as the slight breeze from outside dusted it on Akaashi’s face. Sipping from his favourite mug (novelty - huge, shaped like an owl, with black and gold glittery eyes), Bokuto hummed lightly to himself, bouncing on the tips of his toes. The music felt comforting to him, and occasionally between sips he’d try and whistle along, or sing a couple of the words if he remembered them - every time he did, Akaashi gave him one of those special smiles, the ones where his ice-eyes melted from sub-zero to a warm bath, and his mouth tugged up into a crescent moon.
Akaashi’s smile was the moon, and Bokuto was nocturnal.
Soon enough, a song came on that Bokuto knew, and his grin stopped for just a moment; and then it was back, wider than ever, as he haphazardly placed his mug on the counter, his heart in Akaashi’s hands, and the lyrics in his throat. Kaashi was in his arms as he pranced through his kitchen, caroling to a song Akaashi would treasure, throwing his legs into the air and doing clumsy pirouettes on his linoleum floor. The chorus felt like a love spell - or perhaps a curse of passion - and Akaashi was under it, with the way he tried to swerve underneath Bokuto’s impressive wingspan as they made up a dance as they went.
The tune finished, but Kotarou continued, fingers darting up Akaashi’s arms, then to his hips, then twisting him around like a ribbon in a traditional Chinese dance. He’d laugh, and whistle, and just make little noises as Akaashi played along, and when he put him down Keiji all but jumped into Bokuto’s arms.
“It’s like I was flying,” he said, tucking his arms in as close as they could get to Kotarou’s strong back muscles, trying to not to let Bokuto stand on his feet as they twisted in patient harmony.
Bokuto saw that smile again, that crescent-moon smile that he thrived under, and couldn’t restrain himself from kissing it like that was all he had.
Akaashi tasted like chamomile - a chamomile crescent.
+1 - Comfortable Playfulness
Bokuto was his own brand of chaos - uncontrolled, unpredictable - and in a way, Akaashi was too. Akaashi was controlled, and patient, but had a way of making the weird seem normal and the normal seem weird. When Kaashi relaxed, stopped overthinking, put his heart before his head and pushed all his responsibility aside, he was a handful, playful, an exhibit of unrestrained joy.
It was no mystery that this version of him existed only when Bokuto sat beside him.
“Kaashi,” started Bokuto.
“Bo.”
Bokuto stopped, knowing he’d just been interrupted.
“Akaashi-” he tried, starting again.
“Bokuto.”
Squinting, Bokuto smiled, and tried a third time.
“Keiji-”
“Kotarou.”
“You’re playing a game! You’re messing with me, aren’t you!”
Restraining a polite snort, Akaashi looked up, his eyes intense and humoured, his brows furrowed in a way that was almost avian. “Me? Never.”
Bokuto, ever so gently, pushed Akaashi, just to see if he’d comply.
Akaashi damn-near grinned, before shoving Bokuto as hard as he could.
“Oh, it is so on,” Bokuto said, jumping out of his position on the couch and running after Kaashi as he dashed to the door.
“Catch me first!”
Akaashi might tease Bokuto, and he might pretend to be cold and empty and he might sigh with discontent as Kou fell into one of his slumps, but as they chased each other around the house, taking chips from the fridge and eating a few before throwing them at each other, politely tapping each other to say who was “it”, fixing each others’ hair after messing it up with kisses, adjusting their shirts and laughing to each other as they fell in a heap on the floor, Kaashi knew there’s not a single person on Earth he’d rather hold.
In this life, and every one following, in every reality, Akaashi and Bokuto were in love.
Akaashi and Bokuto were both handfuls - but that’s why they held each others’ hands.

more cock, fewer roaches. please. by Gray_Herring | M | 30.9K
sakuatsu. not as horny as the title suggests, i swear. sakusa’s apartment is being fumigated for bugs, so he stays at atsumu’s for a few days. actually very sweet and made me want to melt—sometimes Being Known is not such a mortifying ordeal.
Man.
seven days of rain by gabstar | T | 4.4K
akaashi-centric character study and a bokuaka relationship study. bokuto loves the rain, and akaashi comes to find comfort in loving bokuto. mostly fluff and wonderfully written; feels like racing someone in the rain and laughing until your cheeks hurt. god. THEM.

Hi, could you write a Iwaoi or bokuaka fic?
Hi! You’re in luck!! I just finished a bokuaka fic :) I’m working on and iwaoi one right now!
Suddenly Sick: A BokuAka Sick Fic
Pairing: Sick Bokuto, caretaker Akaashi
Words: 2,330
Warnings: vomiting
Bokuto and Akaashi walked hand in hand down the sidewalk on their way home after one of Bokuto’s matches. The Black Jackals won, of course, and the whole team went out for dinner afterwards.
It was a really nice night, so the couple opted to walk home instead of calling for a cab. The sky was cloudless and the moon was full. The slight breeze made it a little chilly, but nothing too unbearable. It was incredibly calming and Akaashi felt completely at peace.
Bokuto was chatting excitedly beside him, relaying different highlights of the game, despite the fact that Akaashi was there and saw the whole thing. His animated stories were punctuated by Akaashi’s occasional nods and hums, the setter content to let his boyfriend relive the most exciting moments of the game.
The relaxing atmosphere tricked Akaashi into letting his guard down. Normally, he was hyper vigilant of their surroundings for both himself and his absent-minded partner, but he was lulled into a sense of security. Hardly anyone was out at this hour and they were only a few blocks from their apartment. Further, Bokuto was riding high from his game. He didn’t need to keep his mind running with the different situations and outcomes that they might encounter on their short walk.
Bokuto was slowly calming down, his stories becoming less animated as they walked, but that was given. Akaashi expected that to happen because it was their usual routine. Bokuto expended his leftover energy until he came back to a normal level and Akaashi was happy to oblige him in any way he needed.
What he didn’t expect was complete and sudden silence.
Akaashi was looking at the stars when it happened. Bokuto stopped talking abruptly. No more relaying highlights. No questions about Akaashi’s day. No idle conversation about current events. No, it was radio silence and after 2 minutes, all of Akaashi’s nerves were set on edge.
He was about to ask if Bokuto was okay, though he wasn’t sure what would have triggered the change in Bokuto’s mood. Right as Akaashi turned to face his boyfriend, Bokuto released his hand and stood frozen, rooted to the ground. Akaashi was completely thrown off. Something was very wrong. Immediately, he moved in front of Bokuto.
“Kotarou? What’s wrong?”
Akaashi scanned Bokuto for any obvious signs of distress and was not pleased with his findings.
Bokuto was pale, his skin taking on an ashen grey color. His eyebrows were scrunched and his mouth twisted. There was a slight tremble in his shoulders, and a hand rested precariously on his stomach.
“I-I’m not sure. I just feel really bad all of a sudden,” he panted. Akaashi felt his own eyebrows come together. He brought a hand up to Bokuto’s sweaty forehead and frowned.
“You’re a little warm. Were you feeling off at all earlier?” He asked. His arms wrapped around Bokuto’s shoulders and he pulled his distraught boyfriend into his chest. Bokuto shook his head.
“No. It just hit me in the last few minutes,” the ace whimpered into Akaashi’s shoulder. Akaashi rubbed a hand up and down Bokuto’s back gently.
“Okay,” he whispered back, “let’s get you home and in bed then? I’ll take your temperature. It’ll be okay, Kou.” He pulled Bokuto from his chest and held his shoulders. His concern grew when Bokuto didn’t respond verbally, opting for a short nod instead. Was he paler than before?
They tried to move forward, only for it to become blatantly, painfully, obvious that whatever was plaguing Bokuto sapped all of his energy when he stumbled and nearly face planted within the first two minutes of them walking. Akaashi felt a jolt of anxiety surge throughout his body. He didn’t know what was wrong, but it wasn’t good.
Akaashi threw one of Bokuto’s arms over his smaller shoulders and wrapped a hand around his boyfriend’s waist. They started walking again and Akaashi sent up a silent prayer to whatever god would listen that they could make it the measly 5 remaining blocks to their apartment without incident.
Apparently no one was listening.
“K-keiji,” Bokuto stuttered, desperate. Akaashi’s head snapped to look at his boyfriend so quickly he swore he got whiplash. Bokuto was entirely too sweaty given their slow pace and his eyes were squeezed shut.
They were only about a block from their apartment now. They were so very, very close.
“Keiji, please stop.”
“It’s alright, Kou, we’re almost hom—“
“No, we need to stop walking,” Bokuto panted, halting them with a strength he didn’t have just a few seconds ago. Akaashi stepped in front of his boyfriend and gave him a once over again.
In addition to the pained look on his face, Bokuto’s Adam’s apple bobbed up and down as he swallowed tightly. A sense of foreboding washed over Akaashi.
“Kouta-“
“Keiji, I’m gonna be sick,” Bokuto muttered weakly behind a poorly suppressed gag. He brought the back of his hand up to his mouth and peered at Akaashi with pleading eyes.
Akaashi scanned their surroundings. They were in the middle of a small strip mall the block down from their apartment. Curious eyes of children and concerned adults looked at them from afar. No, this was far too public. They needed to move.
“We’re almost home. Can you hold on a little bit longer?” Akaashi nearly begged. He didn’t want to face the judgement of adults and frighten children. No, he needed to get Bokuto somewhere isolated quickly.
Bokuto looked at him again, eyes wide and watery, his lips pulled in a tight line. The whimper that sounded was quiet, barely noticeable, but made Akaashi’s heart pang nonetheless. He immediately reprimanded himself for thinking more about their public image than helping his boyfriend when he was clearly distressed.
“Okay,” he soothed, cupping Bokuto’s face in his hands, “it’s fine, Kou. Can you try and make it off the sidewalk at least? To those bushes right there.” Akaashi gestured to the shrubbery about 5 feet away from them. Bokuto took a deep breath and nodded. Together, they slowly made their way over, Akaashi supporting Bokuto far more than he liked.
What had caused this sudden illness? Perhaps a stomach bug and Bokuto was too filled with adrenaline all day to notice symptoms earlier? Perhaps food poisoning? Anxiety? Appendicitis?
Akaashi ran through and tried to rule out every possibility in the short time it took them to make their way to the bushes. His rapid thoughts were interrupted when Bokuto stumbled slightly and gagged.
Akaashi directed him towards the innocent plants, and Bokuto doubled over, resting his hands on his knees. He panted and Akaashi’s chest ached in sympathy. Bokuto wasn’t good at being sick. It was such a direct contradiction to his personality, that he was utterly miserable the second he even caught a cold.
“K-Keiji. It hurts,” he choked out, before having once more, bringing his hand to his mouth.
“I know, baby. I’m sorry this is happening,” Akaashi said gently.
The next few minutes were terribly pitiful. Bokuto continued to gag and heave without relief. Children asked their parents what was happening before quickly being carted away. Older adults frowned and mumbled words of sympathy and pity. There was no way Bokuto didn’t hear the exchanges and Akaashi was sure it only made him feel worse.
“I want it to stop,” Bokuto whimpered when he had a second to catch his breath. Tears were falling down his flushed cheeks, whether they were from sadness or the strain of endless heaves, Akaashi wasn’t sure. He frowned and rubbed a hand up and down Bokuto’s back. His muscles were tight. They tensed with every unsuccessful retch.
“Please relax, Kou. It’s alright,” Akaashi whispered calmly. Bokuto shook his head, eyes shut tightly.
“It’s fine, baby. You’re fine. I’m here. Once this is over, we’ll get you home and I’ll take care of everything, okay?” Akaashi kissed the back of Bokuto’s sweaty neck. He tried to ignore the heat that he felt for the time being. It could be addressed once they were safely and comfortably back in their apartment.
It took a minute or two more, but finally, Bokuto heaved and a wet burp immediately followed, bringing with it his dinner. It continued on like that, Bokuto’s body refusing to give him a break between rounds of vomiting.
“Breathe, Kou,” Akaashi tried to comfort. At some point during the vomiting spell, Bokuto crouched down and placed his head in his hands. He continued to heave, vomit splashing between his legs. Akaashi knelt with him, ignoring the splash-back on his shoes. He rubbed between Bokuto’s shoulder blades and shushed him gently.
A minute later, Bokuto gasped, finally managing to catch his breath, and fell with a thud on his ass. Akaashi pulled out his handkerchief and wiped down his face, frowning.
“Keiji, I really don’t feel good,” Bokuto choked, his eyes wide. He didn’t regain any color in his face, save for the flush of the fever Akaashi discovered earlier. The look on his boyfriend's face reminded him of a surprised child. He chuckled lightly.
“I can see that, Kou.” His hand found Bokuto’s hair and he ran his fingers through it before sliding it down to cup Bokuto’s cheek. Bokuto closed his eyes and whimpered.
Akaashi allowed them to rest a few more minutes before asking Bokuto if he could make it home. Bokuto exhaled slowly, but nodded.
Together, the two of them got Bokuto standing. Akaashi supported him the same way he did earlier. Slowly, the couple made their way home. They only stopped twice when Bokuto thought he was going to throw up again, but kept moving when it turned out to be a false alarm.
Bokuto paled when they got to their apartment. Akaashi grimaced when he remembered that there was no elevator and they had to get up 7 flights of stairs. Around the fourth floor, Bokuto started shaking.
“Koutaro? Are you okay?” Akaashi asked, alarmed. His boyfriend nodded, his lips in a tight line and his eyes determined.
“I’m not going to throw up in the staiwell,” he gritted. Akaashi understood and tried to speed them up as much as possible.
When they finally made it back to their apartment, Akaashi escorted Bokuto to the couch and immediately rushed to the kitchen to get their big trash can. He brought a few extra trash bags too. Just in case.
As soon as he made it back to Bokuto, the sick boy grabbed the trash can and heaved, a slurry or brown vomit spilling into the trash can. Akaashi winced, but left Bokuto to go get him a change of clothes, promising to be back as quickly as possible.
Akaashi changed into more comfortable clothes himself and stopped by the bathroom on his way back to Bokuto. He grabbed a thermometer, a couple wet wash rags, some medicine, and a glass of water.
Upon entering the living room again, he found Bokuto leaning back on the couch, an arm thrown over his eyes. The trash can was sitting idly next to him, only an arm’s length away.
“Hey baby,” Akaashi sat down beside him and brought his legs up so he could face his miserable boyfriend. Bokuto looked at him pathetically. Despite the situation, Akaashi found the look on his face utterly adorable and he gave Bokuto a sad smile.
Akaashi worked quickly, helping Bokuto change into more comfortable clothes. He wiped down his face with one of the wash rags. The thermometer was placed in his mouth and as they waited, Akaashi got the appropriate number of pills ready for Bokuto.
The beep of the thermometer broke the disconcerting silence and Akaashi sighed to find that Bokuto did indeed have a fever. Maybe it was a stomach bug then. In which case, Akaashi should prepare himself to face the same fate in a few days' time.
Bokuto took the medicine and Akaashi coaxed him into drinking the rest of the water. When he finished he handed the glass to Akaashi, who set it on the table.
Bokuto wrapped his arms around Akaashi’s middle and whined as he nuzzled his face into the former setter’s stomach.
Akaashi maneuvered them so that he was laying down, his back leaning against the armrest of the couch, and Bokuto lying between his legs. He slid his fingers through Bokuto’s hair, breaking up the gel and making it fall down.
“I feel so icky,” Bokuto pouted. His eyes were closed and he frowned, his lower lip sticky out childishly. Akaashi giggled.
“I know, babe. Don’t worry, you’ll feel not icky soon.”
Bokuto turned his head so his chin was resting on Akaashi’s stomach and looked at him with wide, fever-glazed eyes.
“You’ll take care of me?”
Akaashi blinked a few times before his face relaxed and his lips pulled up into a gentle smile.
“Of course. Always.”
Bokuto seemed satisfied with that and turned his head so his cheek was resting on Akaashi’s stomach again. He sighed.
It was bound to be a long few days, but the two of them would get through it.
***
A week later, Bokuto was sitting at the breakfast table, feeling much better, though he could still only stomach light meals. The worst week of his life was over, and he was starting to feel like himself again.
He was eating some toast and humming to himself when Akaashi stumbled into the kitchen, a hand on his stomach and sweat shining on his flushed face. Bokuto stared at him, eyes wide.
“K-koutaro? I don’t feel so g-good,” Akaashi managed to force out before promptly doubling over with a jarring belch and vomiting on their kitchen floor.
Bokuto scrambled over to his side and dragged him to the bathroom, a trail of vomit marking their path. He guided Akaashi to kneel in front of the toilet and rubbed his back when he threw up once more.
“It’s okay, Keiji. I’ve got you.”
