Do you have any theories on yakumo backatory? :3-🍰 Annon
Whoever you are, bless you. I mean, seriously. I have more than one, and really I have no idea which one I stick to, so I'm just gonna drop all I got. And this panel is what I'll be mainly using for
Why that specifically? Well, in the start of chapter 339, where I took that from, we do get to see panels of what seem to be the backgrounds of Shiki members, or that's what it seems like at least. Taking Kujaku and Fourth for example in this image
Both having their backgrounds presented + the text for each one of them fits them as well. That explaination wasn't that proper please forgive me my english is lowkey ass—
But anyway, back to that panel of Yakumo, let me point out some stuff from it and give some information for each:
Wagasa
A wagasa, also known as an oil paper umbrella, is a type of paper umbrella that originated in China but eventually spread across other countries, including Japan. Besides the ones shown in that panel, we can also see Yakumo holding one in chapter 321 (TWO for blood or smth incase if necessary-)
Since we only saw him using one for like... Two panels only, it probably won't be too accurate to say, but judging from how the head wheel and hand wheel look less thicker than a Chinese Wagasa, then his is most likely a Japanese one.
Onto the history and traditional stuff: When Wagasa were first introduced to Japan from China, they were initially used to shield the upper classes from sunlight and present/meddling evil spirits, which is why they were often red, just like seen in the image. But besides that history, in religious celebrations and weddings, they also used to shelter people from rain and sunlight, and to drive evil spirits away.
Besides red, that was mainly used to symbolize driving evil spirits away, there are other colors aswell: Purple ones to symbolize longevity for elders, and White ones were used in funerals.
How would any of that information be related to Yakumo? Well:
1) He might be either Japanese or Chinese. And if none, probably follows the culture/traditions.
2) Incase if he died years ago and then was brought back to life, maybe he was a part of mentioned upperclassmen, or at least belonged to a family that is one.
3) Following the "past life thing" in case if he had one, maybe he had a deep belief of evil spirits, or was involved with any of them. Orrrr if he did belong to some family, maybe they had a strong belief that those exist in the religion/tradition they follow.
4) Maybe that Wagasa was never his in the first place but someone else's that he knows and got that from.
(These are probably worded pretty badly, but bear with me it's 4:45AM lolol.)
Temari Balls
Finding the name of it sure did take me time with Google images because I had no idea what they're called before doing research, but anyway:
They're a folk art form and Japanese craft that originated in China and got introduced to Japan around the 7th. History wise, they were constructed from the remants of old kimono, and as time passed by traditional temari became an art, with more decorative and detailed ways of stitching them. With the introduction of rubber to Japan, they went from toys to art objects, and even became an art and craft of the Japanese upperclassmen and aristocracy.
Since these balls (haha balls) were made with pieces of silk fabric, that pretty much does have a relation with Yakumo being a humanoid spider who is able to use his silk to create clothing and... other stuff like in this official art where he tells Kujaku about it.
And speaking of art being decorative detailed, Yakumo's design seems to fit that description too (seriously have you seen him??? Gorgeous, beautiful and allat).
There was also a mention that temari balls became an art and craft of the Japanese upperclass and aristocracy, which could be an another hint that Yakumo might've belonged to them/was a part of them in one way or another. Or, if doing art and craft like these was that impressive to those people, then there could be a what if Yakumo was a middle/lower class and then at some point got noticed by an upperclass. That's about the history part, anyway.
Onto the tradition part: Temari balls are highly valued and cherished gifts that symbolize deep friendship and loyalty. There are also the colors and threads used for the making that are symbolic of wishing the recipient a brilliant and a happy life.
I think the closest we've seen to "friendship" coming from Yakumo with anyone else is his duo with Six. It may not be known exactly if they're friends, or if they consider each other as that, but we've seen them interact together as if they're very much used to each other's shit, so there might be some close bond with these two. I mean, aside from Isou, I think Yakumo is also someone Six seems to be pretty much comfortable to be around judging from their interactions. Is it a sign for friendship or nah? In my opinion, there is definitely something with these two like some sort of bond and high tolerance.
The loyalty part might be related to his interactions with Six, but the meaning could also go to his loyalty to Shiki, with him sticking up to finding that part for the key Mashiro's ass is after to complete the general plan of the organization (that's how it is in the plan at least—).
For the "happy and brilliant life" part — In the end of chapter 323, he said: "We don't have any lingering attachment to this world". Past life or current one, he probably doesn't view any of those as "brilliant or happy", considering how people (including 002 ig) view and treat togabito beings. Could be he decided to be a part of Shiki to look for one? A better world with a better life? Or he lost all hope from the meaning of life or smth /j
Back to the traditional stuff: Temari balls are also often given to children from their parents on New Year's Day, and the mother who made them puts a small piece of paper with a goodwill wish for the child, and they (the child) can never be told what wish their mother made while making the ball.
I dunno if I really wanna stick to that theory, but if Yakumo had a mother, what if she used to make a ball for her son every new years and he would have a bunch of those and had a deep attachment to those. Maybe he believed that if he stayed loyal to the tradition and never ask her about the wish then his life would stay as happy and peaceful.
Now, about this
As you can tell, his spider legs that are usually seen on his forehead... Are not there! (Shocker.)
Since that image is most likely presenting his past, then what if Yakumo wasn't born as a togabito and only fell under the definition of one after being experimented on? Kind of like how it happened with Manji, who used to be Ban.
Or, a different way to view it, what if Yakumo hid the fact he's a humanoid spider by pretending to be a part of the ordinary human beings, and had to hide his spider legs just like in that image.
... Or maybe some togabitophobic people chopped them off??? Dunno lol.
Kimono
And now, something I haven't mentioned until now: his kimono. Really pretty, gorgeous even, but see there's this rule of wearing it: "Always wear the left side over the right side. Only dead people have their kimono worn right over left". Like this, basically:
If you look at Yakumo's design, he is wearing it in the proper way of the living, right over left, just like the woman I've shown:
There could be two theories rising from that:
1) Yakumo never died in the past or his recent life in any way.
2) He did die in the past, but is wearing his kimono like that in order to bland in with the living, basically fooling others who barely know him (or they know him but he just wants to fuck with us).
And a side but not too major theory I had for him in general: Maybe he used to be a god, or anything close to it? Or was blessed by one? I got that idea from his personality of having an enjoyment to do things flashily and show off, just like how he did so in the arc with Team F when killing the guards and 002 and even showing her his special threads or... Yeah you get what I mean. And there is also the fact that he had a speech/moment referencing the short story "The Spider's Thread" by Akutagawa that gave me that idea, but I'm not too sure how to explain it.
So in summary (???) I guess what I brought up as theories for his backstory are:
1) Belonging/Related to a upperclass / noble family in one way or another
2) Follows or is somehow close with tradition and/or religion
3) Might have been a human before becoming togabito
4) There might be a chance he died in the past but then was brought back to life
And I think that's all.
Excuse me if it's messy, I'm not that good with explaining myself and my theories, but feel free to talk to me about it lolol.

The Dubiously Needed, Unnecessarily Extensive Magia Record Stat Sheet Guide (Attribute)
Every unit in Magia Record has an attribute, or “element”. The attribute determines the effectiveness of a character’s attacks, both in the damage they deal and take. There are six attributes total, with the following qualities:
Flame is strong against Forest, but weak against Aqua.
Aqua is strong against Flame, but weak against Forest.
Forest is strong against Aqua, but weak against Flame.
Light and Dark are strong against each other.
Lastly, Void has no strengths and no weaknesses.
A character’s attribute may come to you instantly, or it may take some time to figure out. Here are some guidelines you could use to determine your character’s attribute.
Color scheme (Many characters in Magia Record have their attribute determined by the color of their outfit. The game’s reliance on this principle makes this look like a hard rule, but don’t feel forced to adhere to this. Example: Alina Gray is a character with green elements in her design. She is aligned with the green Forest element.)
Wish (Does your character’s wish have a specific emotional or symbolic attachment? If it does, it could lead them towards a specific attribute. Example: Iroha Tamaki made a wish to heal her sister’s illness. Healing is often a good and holy symbol in both real life and fantasy. This aligns with the Light element’s aesthetic.)
Magic (This can be as obvious as you want it to be. A character with fire magic could easily be placed in the Flame type, so on, and so forth. Example: Suzune Amano is often associated with fire manipulation due to absorbing that power from a Witch. Likewise, she is a Flame-aligned unit.)
Temperament (Elements often bring certain characteristics to mind. You can use these characteristics to determine what attribute matches your character. Example: Isabeau is a power-hungry and controlling character who seeks the destruction of France. She is a Dark-aligned unit, with Dark bringing to mind “darkness” and “evil”.)
Aesthetic elements (Sometimes…it’s just a vibe, you know? Attributes can be determined based on what a character is frequently associated with. Example: Even before Magia Record, Sayaka Miki was associated with water, both in her transformation sequences and her Witch form. When she was released in MR, she was Aqua type.)
Void has the least units of every type, and is the most contentious when it comes to fanon. For some time, the only Void-aligned characters were Adjusters: magical girls that can “adjust” the attributes of another to make them stronger. It was a popular fanon interpretation that the Void type was exclusive to characters whose wishes were born from or caused curses. For example, the most well-known Coordinator, Mitama Yakumo, made a wish to cause the destruction of Kamihama - a dangerous wish that she would seriously regret.
Void is no longer an attribute exclusive to Coordinators, as we have characters like Mikoto and Pernelle. However, the fanon interpretation of Void is still popular. Ultimately, it’s up to you whether or not you want to adhere to fanon. Personally, while I do like the theory, I also feel that if a character aligns with Void for another reason, they should be able to share that element. You’re free to decide however you like!

ancient basin, crystal peak, and resting grounds for yakumo??
oh! hello! this is so funny to me i originally didn’t want to list him on my blog but now i’m actually super excited to answer these for yakumo!!! tysm for asking and i hope you have a great day, or night, wherever you are!
also: this is the ask game for anyone wondering
answers below the cut since there’s three and i’ve noticed my answers tend to get lengthy for this game :3
ancient basin - if you and your f/o could live in your dream home for the rest of your lives, what would it be like?
oooh this question is always fun!! i definitely imagine it as a very cozy place, with the largest spaces being the kitchen/dining area and the living room. see, he really likes to cook and bake, and he’s really good at it! i’d want him to have a nice kitchen and a nice dining area where we could enjoy what he makes!! and maybe he could teach me a thing or two, i’m not the best in the kitchen myself LOL
i don’t think either of us would push interior decorating too much- see, i can do it in theory, but it gets overwhelming when i actually get to decorate a space. for him, i just think as long as it feels like home he’d be alright with it, and to make it feel like home we’d probably hang some pictures but not do much else? if we did anything else i’m not sure what it’d be.
i see warmer colors for this as well, maybe focusing on oranges or browns for the overall aesthetic, but overall it would just be. a place. it wouldn’t look too special, but stepping in you’d know, oh someone lives here and they’re very happy about it, if you know what i mean?
crystal peak - what does your f/o find to be valuable as a gift?
yakumo is big on food, i’m sure i made that at least a little clear in the last answer- but if i were to either ask him to help me learn to make something, or just make something for him myself in the kitchen, he’d find that to be an extremely valuable gift!! or, if i were to go out and buy him chocolates, he’d really like that too!
i also think he considers quality time a gift, even if it’s not technically a gift, because he just feels so,, honored and overjoyed to have someone to spend time with, who loves him no matter what- even if he has a little bit of an anger issue, n that makes his powers as a descendent of the great serpent kinda hard to control, i don’t mind it! and i am totally down to spend time with him and make sure he knows that i love him for who he is.
resting grounds - does your f/o believe in superstitions, ghosts, or other supernatural occurrences?
oo, i think yes! it’s kind of a given in the world he comes from, things there are pretty magical and different from our mundane real life, but overall i would say that yes he does believe in that stuff! though he’s got a little bit of a fear of ghosts and similar entities, he believes in them nonetheless!
n those are my answers!! i hope they’re a fun read, and thank you again for asking!!!

Puppy Love
Called tf out
Word Count: ~880
OC Centric, 3rd POV, Code Vein Fic
“You are fond of him.”
Rhodey is absently running her fingers through Io’s hair—her head resting in her lap—when the girl speaks up. They’ve taken to lying on Io’s bed to enjoy the light breeze rolling in from the night outside. Today had been something of a lazy day—Rhodey has learned to enjoy those thoroughly whenever they come.
She tears her eyes away from where Yakumo and Louis are chatting at the bar over a game of cards to find Io watching her from the corner of her eye.
“He’s a friend, Io—of course I am.”
Io smiles, small and soft. It isn’t quite teasing, more knowing—like there isn’t a thing in the world Rhodey could possibly hide from her. “No,” she says, “it isn’t quite that, I don’t think.”
“You don’t think he’s a friend?” Rhodey knows where she is going with this, but she pretends she doesn’t in hopes that her cheeks will stay their natural color and her voice will remain steady. She doesn’t think she has it in her to deny the truth outright. It had become somewhat overwhelming during all the time she’d spent with him, so far. Hard to ignore when her eyes wouldn’t stop lingering on his jawline or his arms—when her mind wouldn’t stop wandering...
His unwavering support had been the only thing keeping her going, some days. The steps she took, driven by the knowledge of how crushed he would be should she halt. Maybe this had always been inevitable.
“The way you care about him is different than how you care for me. Or for Louis. Or for—“
“Okay, okay! You’ve made your point.” She taps the tip of her finger playfully against Io’s nose. “Nosy thing.” The smile on her face is too genuine and tender, and Io knows that she hasn’t crossed a line. Sometimes she does that without realizing it with the others—relearning to interact with people normally has been difficult for her.
Everyone had been so patient with her—especially Rhodey. Even with everything that had changed about the girl in recent weeks, that never had. Io is thankful for this; she had been the only one Rhodey dared speak of her recently remembered past with. Io knows now what she had gone through—not just as a revenant, but also as a human. Their bond had always been deep, but now Io can feel the bottomless trust that Rhodey has for her more than ever.
It’s what allows her to speak so freely about topics such as this without fear that Rhodey might shut her out completely.
“It’s nothing to be ashamed of. He is important to you.”
“I’m not ashamed of it!” She replies quickly, cheeks reddening despite her previous efforts. She had been right—she doesn’t try to deny it. Lying to Io, even in passing, feels wrong.
“You’re not?” She ponders, “Then why not tell him? Is that not what people do in this situation?”
“In theory...” Rhodey scrubs a palm down her face, abandoning the soft feel of Io’s hair. “It’s...it’s hard to explain, it’s like...w-well...”
Io watches her expectantly as she flounders, and when she finally goes silent for lack of something better to say, she sits up beside her.
“Not ashamed...then, afraid?” She asks, gently.
Rhodey bites her lip. Maybe...?
She thinks about all the excuses she’d come up with in the past, all the reasons she’d told herself not to bring it up. The fighting, the research, her memories...
“Is there really time for something like that with all the work we’re doing?” She wonders, voice small. “He’s always looking ahead—focused on the task. I know I should be, too. I don’t...I don’t want him to think less of me because I’m getting distracted.”
“Do you think he would?” Io doesn’t ask it like she’s trying to get her to second-guess, but Rhodey pauses for a moment anyhow.
“I...I don’t know...”
She looks over at him, again. He’s got that same smug look in his eye he gets every time he’s sure he’s about to win. He gets it during fights, too—cocky smirk amongst streaks of enemy blood right before he brings down that sword like the blade of a guillotine. In moments like these, he’s all predator—like a shark smelling blood in the water.
A moment later he lays down his winning card, making Louis wince comically and lay down his hand in defeat, and his face regains that boyish joy. He punches Louis’ shoulder lightly, and they both laugh childishly as a light shoving match takes the place of the previous card game.
It’s like he’s a completely different person, suddenly.
He has so many sides to him—she wants to meet them all.
“I don’t know if it would be better to tell him, or to not.” Io tells her honestly, “But I believe he has the potential to make you very happy.”
She feels herself smiling, still watching them play like children. Like brothers. Yakumo messes up Louis’ hair and the other gives an indignant yelp that he soon seems embarrassed by—flushing and straightening his waistcoat with a bashful cough.
“He already does that.” That she can say for sure.

So... we have the 8 new main characters, we have 16 playable characters, 6 who have not yet been implemented as playable, and 3 who have not been implemented at all. That's... 33 new characters, at the very start!
Please let me know if you have any more information!
EDIT: Mitama is not actually confirmed to be Walpurgis, oops! That being said, I still hold to my theory that she resembles the witch far too much to be a coincidence.
