DC Comics Announces "Challengers of the Unknown"

DC Comics "All In" initiative is bringing back the investigators of the strange and unusual, the Challengers of the Unknown. The Challengers of the Unknown 5-issue limited series will be written by Christopher Cantwell with art by Sean Izaakse. The comic spins out of Absolute Power and the DC All In Special.

The "terror of the Darkseid shock wave has cascaded across the DC Universe…tearing open the very fabric of time and space itself! Only one band of super-scientists have the right stuff to challenge the fate of a universe: the Challengers of the Unknown.

Ace Morgan, June Robbins, Prof Haley, Red Ryan, and Rocky Davis, adventurers “living on borrowed time,” run day-to-day operations for the Justice League’s Watchtower base in orbit above Earth, collaborating with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the rest of the League to seal the rifts that threaten the galaxy. But a mysterious foe from the Challengers’ past lurks in the shadows, and its connection to the Darkseid wave will put not only the Challengers, but all of the DC Universe on borrowed time."

Challengers of the Unknown #1 (of 5) goes on sale on December 18, 2024. The debut issue sports a main cover by Mike Deodato Jr., variant covers by Sean Izaakse and Romulo Fajardo Jr., Taurin Clarke, and Danny Earls, a foil variant cover by Gleb Melnikov, and a character design variant cover by Dan Mora.

🇬🇧 I really love Sanctuary but sometimes I wish it wasn't made in 2008-2011. You know the dark and yellowish foundation, concealed lips, weird sweaters, french manicure, low waist jeans etc.

Poor Magnus and Nikola with yellow foundation, sometimes even with John Druitt.

Or that horrible blue and black sweater that Will wears.

Is there anything you don't like about Sanctuary? If yes, what is it?

I think it's smart how June's lines in these panels work both as a commentary on the sexism the female characters, especially the ones from the silver age like June and Judy, face in the comics, but also work to point at the inequality of the power dynamics between A-list and D-list characters - a recurring theme in this series

I got spaghetti sauce on my signed first edition of Tibetan Peach Pie, Tom Robbins’ autobiography. He’s one of my favorite, most influential authors and my first reaction was utter horror, followed by a desire to reshelve my book for all eternity to avoid any further damage.

Then I finished my spaghetti and my book.

Hey Neil, my sister and I are having a slight disagreement and I think you can help us.

Some time ago I saw you when you visited Kansas. After the event, I picked up some books that happened to be pre-signed. I had planned to buy some books in any case, and I'm thrilled that they're actually signed!

In any case, I offered to let my sister borrow them, to read them. They're the only copies I have, after all, and books were made to be read and enjoyed. She thinks that signed books are meant to keep for prestige, to say you have it and keep it on a shelf.

So what do you think? Are signed books made to be used and loved, or are they meant for keeping safe and shown off?
