checo spends more time than anyone with lestappen what with cooldown rooms interviews, barging into Max’s drivers room unannounced etc etc

So he just, accepts Charles presence as The Constant in the world. And So when lestappen can’t talk right away he actually finds himself in interesting strat convos with Charles. Leading to them talking abt random stuff until Max steals charles away once again

So recently, with Charles being gone. He’s a bit confused? like max is but slightly less. Like?? who’s he supposed to talk to now?? Max? All they’re gonna do is talk about Charles!!

Well, that doesn’t sound to bad actually. So they do. And whoever the third is just has to sit there and take the convo of the two red bulls lamenting about how they miss charles and charles should be here and charles is so cool and on and on

(idk also in my mind they go out for drinks after races sometimes :) for funsies)

"Sooo..." Checo starts, before awkwardly trailing off.

Max blinks at him, once, twice.

And then Checo needs to look away because there's only so much time a man can stare at Max's nearly-too-blue eyes without finding themself stuttering and stumbling.

Checo has had to learn this the hard way.

The race has only just finished. A Red Bull 1-2. A good day at the office.

There's just one thing missing.

The wrong colour race suit hovers around them.

Maybe Checo had begun taking Charles' presence for granted.

Relied on him being around too much, too often. Being way too comfortable with the other two doing the talking and socialising and letting it wash over him, chipping in if he wanted to.

But otherwise, just chilling out.

Neither Max nor him know what to do now.

Standing around in a loose circle, shuffling their feet, waiting for the interviews to begin.

The silence is anything but comfortable.

Checo needs to do something.

Needs to say something.

Now.

"So, Max, what about Charles' last lap overtake, huh?"

The effect is instant; blue eyes lighting up, hands taking flight.

"Mate," Max begins, and then he's off, talking a mile a minute.

And it's comfortable. Familiar. Checo cannot help but smile, relaxing into it.

If either of them had paused, or perhaps even cared, to notice. They would notice the third place man grumbling as he walked off, "You have to be fucking kidding me."

Max likes Padel. Scratch that, he should rephrase it. Max “likes” Padel. Fuck, no, not even this works… Max likes Padel only because Charles plays with him. That's the truth. Sue him, he likes to see Charles smile in those little Puma shorts of his, is this a crime? Max is sure many people, including the entire Italian population, would agree with him.

He hates the bloody sport, if he has to be really honest, with those ugly courts with walls, the small rackets, the balls, which to him are just a stupid more expensive copy of a tennis ball. Max likes tennis, and Jannik Sinner lives in his building, the floor right below him, so he happily listens to the Italian Sinsplaying (?) matches and shots, so it feels familiar. Max feels like he has to protect his ginger neighbour from Padel players.

But let's be clear, Max likes to watch tennis, there's no way in hell he'd embarrass himself on a clay court for the whole world to know. He already has the padel courts for world-class embarrassment.

Unfortunately, Max also likes Charles, even if he keeps denying it and avoiding Checo's death stares after too many third-wheeling sessions, so once a month, when they're back in Monaco, he has to succumb to his heart's desires.

That's why he's currently in a town the size of a post stamp, with a stupid padel bag on his shoulders, listening to Charles charm his way into getting a padel court for the day without a reservation or giving any names. Max would like to know what the Monegasque is doing, but he has a better time staring at Charles' ass in his tie-dyed heart jeans. And he doesn't know French.

Charles also drove them there in his Alfa Romeo Stelvio. Max feels really useless.

“He said we can have the court, nobody plays padel here, the last couple of players apparently died!” Charles says, nonchalantly, leading Max to the locker rooms.

“They what?” Max asks, pushing the door open and raising a brow.

“Oh, shit, not like that! They were two old men! Anyway, nobody has come here since then, so we can have the court for ourselves!” Charles says again, taking off his t-shirt and standing in the room half-naked. Max wants to die.

“Ahah, fun,” Max shrieks, making Charles laugh. He's so fucked.

Max changes in a nanosecond, praying God Charles hasn't seen him trip on his feet and nearly fall down as he pulls his shorts up.

“Ready?” Charles asks with a soft smile after Max ties his shoelaces. He nods and they walk out to the court. 

The facility is empty. Ghostly so. Max can fill it with his embarrassment and his humongous crush, there could be enough space for those two.

They get inside the court and Charles drops his bags down, taking his racket, and six balls, and putting them on the ground. He looks at Max and grins as he starts running around the court, to warm up. Max sits down and pretends to do his usual stretching session. That's obviously an excuse to stare at Charles. 

That motherfucker is so pretty. Extremely pretty. Illegally pretty. He's so soft and kind, with fluffy hair, Dorito-shaped. Charles smiles at him every time he passes by and Max blushes, as Charles giggles.

After another lap Charles stops and stands in front of him, hands on his waist. His eyes are right at crotch level. Max wants to die. Charles' shorts are really short today.

“Wanna play padel or you're going to stare at my pretty face all afternoon, uh?” Charles jokes.

Max chokes on his spit and starts coughing, making Charles laugh. “Ah, fun, yeah, coming! Let me grab my racket!” Max shrieks, voice breaking in the middle of the sentence, and does his little walk of shame to his bag.

He takes out his racket and as he turns around Charles is standing right behind his back. Too fucking close for Max's liking, he can see all the moles on his face, he could do something stupid, like kissing each one of them.

“If you win today, you can take me out to dinner,” Charles says with a teasing grin.

Max likes this, even if he's blushing like a maniac and his ears are ringing loudly.

“A or V, Leclerc? I'm going to destroy you!” He mumbles, feeling as competitive as if he was on a race track.

“V, Verstappen,” Charles giggles, winking with both eyes at Max, who rolls his eyes.

“Game on, baby!”

Ok guys, I'm going out of my eurovision mood.

Conclusion of 2023 : Nearly everyone got robbed (there are countries I believed deserved much better like Germany, Austria and Moldova and so much more- and don't get me started on Georgia not quantifying to begin with) and society hates originality.

Congrats to Sweden for winning, but I am not sure how good is that going to be for them from now on. Finland is not the only country that's upset with the results.

✦ a bird struggling to get loose

your heart can never hold still. it pounds against your chest frantically. always turning your sights to one thing after the next. when was the last time you were certain? the last time your life was stable? maybe this is how you prefer things. on the move constantly, not tied down to one person or place. you chase one goal after the next. can you ever really feel complete without a place to land? shouldn't you build yourself a nest?

mr. max 🥲 with his reputation of warlord (not that he wanted that reputation, his settlement just turned down enough help needed signals that eventually the people of meagher valley believed they were snooty and isolationists), they seem to constantly be moving around trying to find the best home base, not far too from a town but far enough to where they can get the jump on any enemies. he never wanted this position anyways, deon and tien and maia had elected him leader after he had proven himself multiple times with keeping their group safe. so he lives with the burden of the position because he doesn't want any harm to come to his community he helped form from nothing and constantly looking over his shoulder to make sure everyone is safe and comfortable. (thankfully max does eventually does build his nest with the fragments and he has been able to relax somewhat with deon taking over for him &lt;;3)

the betrayal of arasaka left venus a gaping pit of anger, like an animal backed into a corner, constantly fighting against any that comes near them. she grew up being groomed to become her mother's successor and it was a position she was excited to take over. having her life uprooted by abernathy, left with barely any money to her name, treasures acquired during her employment suddenly vanishing, venus now moves through life a guarded individual. she wants nothing more than to get her old life back especially since her family has turned their back on her in favor of arasaka. so she waits until she can finally strike some sort of revenge against abernathy or arasaka (preferably both)... but in her isolation, she has become very lonely, she yearns for to trust someone but is still scared by what happened and she doesn't want to lose another person to greed.

✦ an open door, a burning hearth

your chest is wide open, and your heart is a home. others are welcomed in readily and asked to stay. you are comfort and love, everything you were never given but so desperately want to provide for others. you have built this welcoming hearth with your own two hands and won't see anyone else left out in the cold. be careful to not burn yourself out trying to keep everyone else warm.

i don't have a lot established for mi-cha yet but i went off how she would be before leaving the vault since that is where she was "formed" as a person. while she was in the vault, she always kind to everyone as her father taught her, treating everyone with respect (even if they didn't deserve it like butch and his crew), and was just a sweet kid! mi-cha (and amata since those two stuck together like glue) was the one younger kids would come and talk with for advice or if they needed help and parents trusted her to watch their kids if they had a date night planned or party! this softness often made her the target of bullying from other teens her age but she never let that deter her because she knew the importance of community and she is not afraid to get her fists dirty if the situation calls for it (she beat the tunnel snakes up after they were harassing amata before their goat test 👊💥). all in all, she is a sweetheart who loves making ppl feel good and keeping them happy :')
