Just in case, here's how to both burn (put songs ONTO) and rip (take songs OFF of) a CD.

(Be aware that this is for Windows only, I have no idea how to do it on Mac or other)

• Obtain a computer with a CD drive (laptop or PC tower). If your computer it doesn't have one (as a lot of new computers are no longer made with them), you can buy an external CD drive for about $20 online. It is attached through USB cord.

• Push the button to open the reader. Put the CD into the drive by clicking the hole in the middle onto the circle. Be sure the rainbow side is facing DOWN. Push the reader closed until it clicks.

• On your computer, open the app called "Windows Media Player." You may need to download it from online, but most Windows computers come with it pre-downloaded.

For Burning (putting music ON a BLANK CD, no songs/tracks yet):

• Open the Disc tab from the left of the screen. Drag the songs you want from File Explorer into the "Playlist" side on the right, in the order you want. At the top, click "Burn CD."

• The disc drive will vibrate a lot and possibly make noise for about 5 minutes. When the screen says it's finished, push the button and open the drive. Pop the disc put by pushing the circle in the middle. Congratulations, you now have a custom disc!

For RIPPING (taking music OFF a CD. I do this all the time with audiobooks, it's super useful when an online audiobook has a lot of holds):

• Open the Disc tab. It should show a list of the tracks on the CD. To choose where the files will end up, click "Rip Settings" and "More," then browse file location. If your phone is connected to the computer, you can rip the files directly there.

• You can also choose "Eject when finished" so the drive will open when it's done.

• At the top click "Rip CD." The CD drive will make a lot of noise and vibrate for about 5-10 minutes (depending how many tracks and how good the reader is).

• When it's done, if you didn't choose "Eject when finished," push the button to open the drive. Take the CD out by pushing the circle in the middle. Co gratulations! You now have digital copies of your music.

(Note that you are not removing the music from the CD, only copying it. It's still on the disc too!)

Anyway it seems like a lot of people already know how but hope it's useful for somebody. :)

Affordability: Compared to vinyl, CDs are still a cheaper way to build a physical music collection."
