Arduino-Compatible Open-Source Dual CAN-FD Network Analyzer
You can now sniff two CANFD busses with SavvyCAN and CANFDuino for less than $150! This cost-effective solution is worth noting. The configurability of the FD settings and messaging in SavvyCAN’s GVRET has not yet been fully baked in. It looks like it’s currently coded for 2 Mb CANFD speeds, which seem to be the most common combination for CANFD automotive networks.

Can 2.0 Vs. Can Fd: The Evolution of Controller Area Network
Tumblr media
Introduction:
The Controller Area Network, or CAN, has long been the preferred protocol for transferring data between electronic control units (ECUs) in the world of automotive and industrial communication systems. This technology has advanced over time to satisfy the rising demands of contemporary cars and industrial automation. The change from CAN 2.0 (Controller Area Network 2.0) to CAN FD (CAN with Flexible Data Rate) is a crucial turning point in this history.
In this blog post, we will examine the distinctions between CAN 2.0 and CAN FD, as well as the benefits it offers in terms of data speed, dependability, and adaptability. We will also examine the factors that led to this move.
1. Understanding CAN 2.0:
Tumblr media
2. Key Features of CAN 2.0:
Fixed Data Rate: The fixed data rate of CAN 2.0 is arguably its biggest drawback. It runs at a top speed of 1 Mbps, which was adequate for early industrial and automotive applications but has since become a bottleneck as data requirements have grown over time.
Message Length: The maximum message length allowed by CAN 2.0 is 8 bytes per frame. While this was appropriate for exchanging simple data, as more complicated data, such as high-definition video and sensor data, needed to be communicated, it became insufficient.
Deterministic and Reliable: One of CAN 2.0’s advantages is that it is deterministic. Critical information always takes precedence since messages are transmitted in a specific order with priority. Error-checking features are also included in CAN 2.0 to improve data dependability.
Why CAN FD Is Required: The limits of CAN 2.0 became more and clearer as technology developed. The creation of CAN FD was prompted by the need for faster data rates, bigger message payloads, and more adaptable communication.
Presenting CAN FD
The introduction of CAN FD, or CAN with Flexible Data Rate, sought to improve upon the drawbacks of CAN 2.0 while preserving its main strengths of dependability and determinism. In terms of data transfer capabilities and applicability to contemporary applications, this new protocol offers considerable advancement.
3. Key Benefits of CAN FD
Flexible Data Rate: The biggest benefit is already implied in the name: CAN FD provides flexible data rates. This indicates that it has a range of operating speeds, with a top data rate of up to 5 Mbps. The ever-increasing data requirements in today’s cars and industrial systems must be accommodated, and this flexibility is essential.
Extended Message Length: Thanks to frames that can hold up to 64 bytes of data, CAN FD supports longer message payloads. This longer message length is essential for transferring complicated data over the network, such as high-definition video.
Backward compatibility with CAN 2.0 is one of CAN FD’s clever design decisions. This permits a smooth transition to the new protocol by allowing older ECUs utilizing CAN 2.0 to live on the same network as newer CAN FD devices.
CAN FD improve error detection and reporting processes, offering a more thorough and trustworthy way to guarantee data integrity?
Increased Network Efficiency: By improving data transmission rates and message sizes, CAN FD helps networks be used more effectively, cutting down on latency and improving system performance as a whole.
4. Implementations of CAN FD
Tumblr media
The automotive sector: CAN FD be a game-changer for the automobile industry? There are several sensors and electrical control units in modern automobiles, and they all demand fast and dependable connection. Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving features can transmit vital data thanks to CAN FD’s flexible data rates and long message durations.
Commercial Automation: CAN FD provide a reliable industrial automation option, where real-time data interchange is crucial? Robots and manufacturing equipment can easily communicate with one another, allowing for precise production process control and monitoring. The protocol’s flexibility enables it to meet the various data requirements of many industrial applications.
Aviation and Defence: High degrees of dependability and data integrity are required for aerospace and defense applications. CAN FD is a good option for avionics and military systems due to its improved error-checking procedures and capacity for handling huge data payloads.
Tumblr media
5. Challenges and Things to Think About
Even if CAN FD has several benefits, there are some difficulties and things to take into account:
Cost: Updating hardware and software may be necessary for CAN FD implementation, which can be expensive, especially for sectors with extensive installations.
Complexity: Due to CAN FD’s greater flexibility, network management may become more difficult. For best performance, proper setting and monitoring are necessary.
Transition Period: For sectors that already have CAN 2.0 networks in place, the switch to CAN FD may need careful planning in order to prevent interruptions and guarantee backward compatibility.
Conclusion:
CAN FD become a key invention in the constantly changing world of automotive and industrial communications? By providing adjustable data speeds, longer message durations, and improved error detection systems, it solves the shortcomings of its forerunner, CAN 2.0. The versatility and dependability of CAN FD make it a crucial technology for the future as the demands for data transfer in both automotive and industrial systems continue to rise. Although switching from CAN 2.0 to CAN FD may be difficult, the advantages in terms of speed, efficiency, and adaptability make the investment worthwhile for sectors looking to stay on the cutting edge of technology.

Look familiar? Bounty Hunter and magic user turned Deity, Ko'jin. Later dubbed as the "Fierce Deity."
Other outfits are a wip. I was gonna wait until they were done but couldn't resist sharing what I was working on for a week.
Masterpost | Lineup | Ko-fi - More info under the cut! This one’s gonna be a pretty long one and the last half below will have the text on the image (coz tumblr’s probably gonna eat the quality) plus some notes sprinkled in.
Plus a look at the Moon Serpent, a common form Ko'jin takes. I'd like to think the Moon Serpent is more commonly known by his followers than the man himself. There are others he takes, like the Silver Wolf, but the dragon is the one most associated with him.
He's relatively unknown after the war before Skyloft's ascent, his image having been completely removed from history. The few traces of him by OOT/MM would be oral tradition, specifically through family members as bedtime stories and legends to tell. Stories about a curious serpent and a powerful artifact.
After the events of MM, the Moon Serpent becomes active again and the festivals dedicated to it return.
Text on the image + extra notes:
Ko’jin, Bounty hunter chosen by Goddess Farore.
“Ko’jin” is not his real name. Once a mortal becomes a god, they abandon their original name. He was never given a proper one again aside from nicknames by worshippers and other deities. Ko’jin is a nickname given to him by his future wife when they first met.
He wears facepaint which is mixed with magic to bolster strength and speed. And later he would get tattoos that did the same [seen later].
Before becoming a god he was a bounty hunter [and popular at that, often being the favorite of a neighboring town]. He would take commission to hunt down monsters many others refused to go near.
Ko’jin has a strong affinity for magic [he uses it practically every day] and often imbues the edges of his sword with darkness magic. Though, the element given to his sword can still vary depending on what or who he’s fighting.
His undersuit and white tunic are much more protective than the brass chainmail, which instead is used more for artistic liberty than function.
“Early Days Moon Serpent”
Ko’jin’s god form was often a dragon for the ease of guiding lost spirits to the afterlife [he’s a judgement god with a very strong connection to the dead and guiding those spirits became his secondary function].
[During the first war with Demise] Soldiers often saw this form as the “Spirit of Courage” and their protector. They worshipped him and gave him gifts in hopes that he’d watch over him [and guide them to a better afterlife if they were to fall in battle (that secondary function). He basically became a huge symbol for soldiers specifically and I feel like this would feed the “War God” title he was given way later on despite not actually being a War God.]
In many ancient artifacts [ones that could be found at least], the Moon Serpent would be as either a two-headed serpent or two separate beings with their horns crossed. [There’s going to be a lot of “two’s” with him. Two swords, two lives, etc. in depictions of him the two heads/bodies of the serpent would be called “the Body” and “the Spirit”. Later on he’s split into two to be sealed away in a similar theme. “Two lives” refers to the before and after his sealing as he loses his memory of his “past life” and becomes a new person (hence a different appearance). I can see Hylia having foresaw a lot of this tbh.]

Linktober Day 9
Deity
*sneezes after downing coffee* Well irl stuff got in the way so I'm way behind my original schedule for these and for Linktober but here we go with another arguably short one, fuelled purely by self indulgence, headcanons, spite against my linguist essays that kept me from keeping to schedule, severe sleep deprivation, a shout out to the Ender Lilies soundtrack and Majora's Mask soundtrack, and Nintendo for not clarifying anything about the lore so I'm snatching what I can and making it my own lol. Look, when you fíxate so much on details the Zelda team doesn't elaborate on you have to fill in the gaps with what you can.
As always can be read as romantic or platonic, technically in a LU context but not explicitly in it by itself.
The Lord of the Mountain liked hearing people sing.
In a way, it wasn’t a surprise, Hylia and the Golden Three each had their ballads and symphonies and minuets, each splendid and with cuts of their divinity in it, Farore was fond of lightning and forest alive minuets, and you could swear Farosh sparked just a bit brighter when one would him the beginnings of the Minuet of the Forest near their spring, Din was fond of boleros, fiery and alive and howling with the echo of flame touching earth that made a shine run through Dinraal’s scales, Nayru, in contrast, was much fonder of blizzard and river quiet serenades, the songs of contemplation at first snow ringing clear when Naydra curled around it’s spring, content to be free of Malice.
And of course Hylia had her ballads and lullabies, perfectly fitting to her display of divinity, of honey days and vast bird like wings, of ambered summers to come and to pass and dazzling solar storms of starlight and sunlight sparking through the human form of her descendants and heroes. So in a way, you weren’t surprised at all that the Lord of the Mountain – Satori, with a familiar touch of londsleite divinity, the hunt of the woodland beasts and diamondscar adoration for the Hero of the Wilds, similar in glory to the Light Spirits petrichor and vermeil fondness for the Hero of the Twilight – liked to listen to people sing. What you were surprised was how it attempted to follow along, it’s head across your lap the second you sat down in the clearing, a gentle hum on back of it’s throat, an owl’s cry and a cicada’s humming and faintly, chirring purring as presses it’s faces into your hands, a gentle request for petting.
It was adorable, even with the faint notes of the chill of clear spring water on winter and the livewire feeling of magic, like holding your hand too close to a flame but not quite touching it.
A low chuckle brushes against the back of your mind, a feeling like biting on ice, the prowl of a wild beast and the build up of lightning and light used to create his blade, the amused affection of a warrior reconvening with their brother in arms, you think you see the bone ivory of the Deity’s hair on the side of your vision, though you know he’s not physically there, ‘He likes you.’
You hum, gently patting behind it’s ears, pushing through the chill, gracefully not mentioning the burning with a smile at the mythic being’s faint chirring, birdsong and the wind through cherry blossoms that sparkle like rose quartz, “Well I quite like him too, I can see where it’s gentleness comes from.”
The ghost of a touch over your hair, the caress of lightning striking over your skin and the hair on the back of your neck pricking up and the crisp cold of winter, the chill of the ending and the flame of a new dawn, of new days, the phantom of magnolias and spring water on your tongue. The fragrance of pine, daffodils and blood soaked lilies on ashen fields on your senses, gentle and careful, marking but not claiming, ‘Only because it’s you, beloved. It’s not something easily given.’
You sigh, shakily composing yourself, you let yourself relax into the phantom sensation. Of hopes and dreams and healed suffering, of the divinity of hunt turned into protection and lightning given form, of tangled timelines and crystalized memories, “I know. It does not change my opinion, either way.”
To be the subject of a god’s care and regard was dangerous, after all. For the human and the deity in question, you know the stories from your world well, of the effects of Hylia on First and Sky, of Twilight and the personification of the Twilight Realm and the spirits of his land, of Wild and clawing from death’s embrace into that of the wilderness.
Knew how the fact the Fierce Deity’s mere proximity causing pain on those who changed him into hunting for hunt’s sake into protection for the sake of someone else cut deeper than even the ever encroaching entropy all beings must one day face. It was no wonder the Song of Healing was his creation, to want to ease the burden.
You gladly grant him some peace, in turn, even if it wasn’t much. It’s the least you can do, for always having his ways of watching over your heroes.
“Join me? We can make a duet.”
You feel more than see him shift, ephemeral, fleeting, gentle against the edges of your existence, as foreign to Hyrule as your own, sparking over your spine as you feel ozone and rust on your teeth. Satori is humming again to match the rumble of thunder in the man’s voice, the heralding of songs of war and elegies for the dead, ‘Of course, though I’m afraid I do not know many songs, besides…’
“It’s alright,”, you smile faintly, there’s a white ocarina in his hands, as he leans, a spectre against your side, “I’ll teach you some of my own, though you’ll have to forgive me if I don’t remember all the lyrics.”
‘It would be my honor to learn.’
You think he smiles, from the fluttering of something ancient and long forgotten against your side.
You sing to Satori and the Chain, a small respite of familiar and forgotten tunes, the Lord of the Mountain hums along. The Fierce Deity’s song cutting through any nightmares that may ail your heroes for another night.
When the dawn of a new day comes, the feeling of divinity against your skin feels just a bit more obvious, sinking into every crack of your being like a shroud, falling over your boys like a veil, reflecting the breath of eternity over Hyrule.
(First gives you a look that’s half exasperation, half understanding. Sky pointedly sticks to your side as Time looks you over, markings deep with vibrant color. You shrug with a helpless smile as you feel the lightest brushes of Hylia’s fond days of gold and starlit summers days against the Lord of the Mountains warm, luminous affection and the Fierce Deity’s smug, but content lonsdaleite smile.)

Evil God Theory part 2
Hello again. I posted about my theory on the tentacled character coming out of the veil in the gameplay trailer in a part one post. Now I’m going to talk about the second figure with the elf ears.
I think our other friend could be Falon’Din. I will be honest, my confidence in the evil god on the right being Falon’Din isn’t as great as my first post but he’s still my first pick and here’s why:
This was a phrase said by an unfamiliar voice in the very short trailer (:33) we got on Dragon Age Day:
“All the world will soon share the peace and comfort of my reign.”
Falon’Din was the god who guided people into Uthenera (a peaceful sleep) but solas says this about him:
I do not believe they sing songs about Falon’Din’s vanity. It is said Falon’Din’s appetite for adulation was so great, he began wars to amass more worshippers. The blood of those who wouldn’t bow low filled lakes as wide as oceans. Mythal rallied the gods, once the shadow of Falon’Din’s hunger stretched across her own people. It was almost too late.
Imagine a god who ushers people into eternal sleep being a bloodthirsty conquerer. He would probably think his reign was comforting and peaceful if everyone is dead.
Also it’s understandable if you don’t necessarily believe Solas. This codex is pretty interesting too though:
The People swore their lives to Falon'Din
Who mastered the dark that lies.
Whose shadows hunger
Whose faithful sing
Whose wings of death surround him
Thick as night.

Lethanavir, master-scryer, be our guide,
Through shapeless worlds and airless skies.
—Song to Falon'Din, found in the Temple of Mythal, author unknown
Tumblr media
Reusing this lovely picture from before but highlighting the background in red because it looks like the world could be experiencing an eclipse. A very nice and literal representation of someone associated with darkness and shadows and night being able to cloak the whole world in darkness.
Now onto some other Falon’Din things. The shape on this figure’s head most closely resembles shapes associated with Falon’Din as pictured with the owl constellation Tenebrium. I’ll just put what the wiki says here:
Falon’Din’s sacred animal is an owl. It is either his companion or his manifestation and simultaneously a messenger of Andruil. The constellation Tenebrium, called “shadow” in the common parlance and depicting an owl, may have been associated with him before it became associated with the old god of night, Lusacan. Falon’Din himself is sometimes depicted as a cloaked and hooded pointing figure.
A comparison of the figures headpiece and horn-like appendages(?) behind the shoulders and the constellation association:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now onto some outfit comparisons.
From Vir Dirthara: Duel of a Hundred Years
The pages of this book—memory?—show a narrow plateau on top of a mountain, Two armored figures—one in gold, one in black—are fighting in the snow. Steel flickers so fast the air hums. Blood dots the ground. They do not stop for breath. The one in black makes no sound as a blade parts his throat.
"Mythal, in her wisdom, interceded in an argument between Elgar'nan and Falon'Din. With clever words, she convinced them to settle their grievance through a battle of their champions. Elgar'nan and Falon'Din agreed, and set their champions against each other rather than declare war among the gods. May those knights long be remembered, and Mythal's wisdom be praised."
The codex does not say which champion was which when fighting but we could assume Elgar’nan’s was dressed in gold (big E and all his sun/light symbolism), while FD’s champion is probably the one dressed in black. While the main cloak/robe seems to be black (refer to the pic after the statue), there’s also a lot of gold so again, not real strong evidence but it could be something. Also the sleeves match up decently with the Falon’Din statue sleeves.
Tumblr media
I did notice too that this outfit seems to match up in some ways with Falon’Din’s outfit in the mosaic. Where the clothes in the mosaic are belted together, it seems this character has the same style but I can’t be certain because the lighting doesn’t help.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also included an old dao picture of a statue because the shoulder piece in that statue plus the way the figure stands near the end of the gameplay trailer reminded me a lot of that particular statue. So I put them side by side so you can have a look for yourself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All that to say, my theory on the second one isn’t as strong and I don’t feel like I have enough evidence yet to be super confident but this is my best guess.
Also if we think about the two that Mythal has had to humble it was Andruil and Falon’Din. Mythal had to take Andruil’s voidy toys away. Falon’Din got too blood thirsty and was forced to go into timeout when Mythal went to Dad Elgar’nan about him and he lost the duel. Plus there’s some connection with his symbol being an owl and the owl being a messenger for Andruil. So it would be fun to see this little duo be our boss fight baddies.
Again, if you read this far, thank you!
