Magic of the Lost by C. L. Clark
Touraine El-Qazāli and Luca Ancier
[Image description: two six-image collages of images to represent each character. The first is Touraine's and the images are: an ornate golden pin shaped like two wheatstalks pinned to a piece of black clothing, a black woman shown from chin to chest wearing a black and gold uniform, a closeup of a black woman's face showing her golden eye, a desert landscape showing sand dunes, three old-fashioned rifles laid on a wooden chest, the legs of a group of people wearing camoflage-patterned military uniform and boots.
The second collage is Luca's and the images are: a desk that has an open book with pair of spectacles resting on top of it and more books and an old-fashioned bell and lamp behind it, a white woman shown from shoulders to chest wearing a black uniform-style coat with a golden crest on it over a white ruffled shirt and her long blonde hair is loose over one shoulder, a closeup of a chess board showing the black queen and white king pieces next to each other, the hand of a white person writing with a fountain pen next to a candle and inkwell, the handle of a silver rapier laid on a wooden floor, the torso of a figure wearing a black coat and their black-gloved hand is holding a silver-handled cane like they are walking with it. End image description.]

Another ✨library haul✨
Sooo I may have gone a bit overboard this time…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
FIFTEEN BOOKS!!! And this isn’t counting the 8 or so I got before these and still have… guess I really gotta get reading!
The themes that are emerging here are trans women, lesbians, and sci-fi—all things I am always loving 😌 I’m particularly excited about These Fragile Graces, This Fugitive Heart by Izzy Wasserstein, a new release that I specifically requested our collection developer to buy and put on hold for me, the Monk & Robot duology by Becky Chambers (A Psalm for the Wild Built and A Prayer for the Crown Shy), and (almost) all of the books in Martha Wells’ Murderbot Diaries series—I’m still waiting on the second one to come back!
I’m very excited to get around to these, but more than anything, I’m grateful my library has such a great collection for so many of the books I’ve been wanting to read for so long and for newer releases too :)

Bonus - We Mow Lawns - Magic of the Lost AU
Guess who’s back with another AU! This one of a decidedly different and very NSFW nature! Back in January when I was in Australia, I was driving around–being driven, actually–and we passed a black sign hung on someone’s fence that said in white paint, “WE MOW LAWNS” with a phone number on it. Dunno about you, but like any good lesbian, I don’t mow grass lawns because I believe in protecting the…

Also idk who needs these mental images. But I rewatched the movie. I need it.
Little Arthur sitting in Clarke’s office, and her giving him a toy— watching him play with it and taking notes. She dropped an entire notebook on the toy department’s head’s desk.
Malcolm telling Clarke that he has a kid the first time and she just goes “Are you sure you should?” Instead of a congrats lmao
Teenage Steve starting to work on upgrades to the pole and Clarke is in her office when he first brings her a ho-ho to test it. Because who else would test it besides the literal toy tester? She stared him in the eyes as she slammed it onto her desk and handed him the smashed pieces back with a “try again, candy cane.” Before casually brushing the glass pieces off her desk.
Arthur sitting and reading letters to Clarke, asking for help on his first year replies. And Clarke trying to help, but Arthur has to censor her lol
Clarke giving Margaret secret gifts; hot cocoa, cookies no one knows about, a new coat. But never on Christmas. For every other holiday but Christmas.
Peter and Clarke both sipping hot cocoa and staring down Steve from across headquarters. Peter making a comment or two, and hot cocoa ends up coming out of clarke’s nose as she tries not to laugh.
Early on the job, Clarke stayed up past all the other elves polishing the sleigh after one successful Christmas, and a Santa came up and pat her on the shoulder. She gets to sit in Evie and sees the Eiffel tower, Chicago, and other wonders of the world. Clarke clutched onto Santa’s arm, eagerly pointing out things. He simply laughs, and pats her head. And says that wonder she feels is the same wonder every child experiences at Christmas.
Despite clarke’s insistence that she dislikes everyone and every elf. Her door is always open, and music can always be heard drifting out of her office. Her office is always decorated for every holiday, and she always has a candy dish out for those who do stop by.
Malcolm and Grandsanta both coming into Clarke’s office bickering about something. And Clarke just continues working until she suddenly points and says why they’re both wrong. Then they both leave like little ashamed kittens.
