Twins Edge Dodgers To Avoid Sweep!
Dodgers 2 Twins 3 W-Funderburk (1-0) L-Vesia (0-1) SV-Okert (1)
The Minnesota Twins have gotten a good test with a great Dodgers team this week. They looked to avoid the sweep today on a Wednesday matinee. The Dodgers ready from the start as Mookie Betts led-off with a single to center. Shohei Ohtani drew a walk and Teoscar Hernandez doubled home a run. The Dodgers lead was short-lived as Eddie Julien smacked a Bobby Miller fastball out to left for a lead-off homer in the first. This tied the game at one after one. The Twins would get back to work in the third with an Eddie Julien lead-off single to right. Carlos Correa followed with a base hit to center and Byron Buxton dropped a run-scoring single to left. The Dodgers would come right back as Max Muncy crushed a Chris Paddack change-up out to right-center for a solo homer to tie the game at two. The Twins had one more rally in the fifth. Eddie Julien knocked an Alex Vesia fastball out to left for a solo homer and the Twins retook the lead. The Twins bullpen was up for the task as Kody Funderburk and Jorge Alcala combined for a scoreless inning, Brock Stewart had a scoreless seventh, and Griffin Jax struck out the side in the eighth. Steven Okert put up a zero in the ninth for the save and the Twins picked up the win today at home.
-Final Thoughts- Chris Paddack was decent today. He went 4 2/3 innings and allowed two runs on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Kody Funderburk retired two of the three men he faced, Jorge Alcala go out of a jam in the sixth. Brock Stewart had a scoreless seventh, Griffin Jax fanned three in the eighth, and Steven Okert had a scoreless ninth. Eddie Juilen led the way with three hits and two homers today. Carlos Correa added two hits on the day. The Twins hit 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. The team heads over to Detroit for a four-game series with the Tigers. Pablo Lopez faces Tarik Skubal tomorrow afternoon.

Peacock is teaming with LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s Uninterrupted on Golden, a docuseries about women’s gymnasts vying for a spot on the U.S. team heading to the Tokyo Olympics.
The six-episode series tracks six hopefuls competing for four spots on the U.S. Olympic team. A premiere date has not yet been confirmed for the show, which is part of a broad array of live and on-demand Tokyo programming heading to NBCUniversal platforms.
Golden features Laurie Hernandez, Morgan Hurd, Sunisa Lee, Konnor McClain, and MyKayla Skinner. A major theme will be the coronavirus pandemic, which forced the postponement of the Games from 2020 to 2021 and also dramatically altered athletes’ preparations and training.
Each hour-long episode of Golden will center on one of the individual gymnasts, with storylines of the other competitors woven into the narrative. Hernandez is known to Olympic viewers for winning a gold medal as a member of the “Final Five” team and an individual silver on beam at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Skinner served as an alternate on that team.
Hurd was the 2017 world all-around champion and Lee was a member of the team that won gold at the 2019 World Championships. McClain, the 2019 U.S. Classic Junior All-Around Champion, became old enough to be eligible for the Tokyo Olympics once the Games were postponed.
The series will cover a five-month span and milestones like national team training camps, the U.S. Gymnastics Championships, and the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, which start June 24.
Three-time Olympian Dominique Dawes is executive producing, along with James, Carter, and Uninterrupted’s Jamal Henderson and Philip Byron.
“When I look back, I remember the tremendous sacrifice it took me to achieve my own Olympic pursuits,” Dawes said. “Similarly, these gymnasts have and will continue to endure physical, emotional and mental hurdles that most cannot fathom. The millions of viewers who watch the Summer Games are accustomed to witnessing the short-lived glory of the podium without truly understanding the demands these young female athletes face.”

I gotta get linked in to my ward leaders bc I love helping them campaign so I'm curious who is going to be running in 23' , or hell I'd help adjacent wards if I like their platform. I helped Byron sigcho Lopez in 2018 I think and he won his election against a 40 year incumbent ! Huge win for that ward in pilsen tbh. There's this woman Melissa Hernandez who does mutual aid near me I think she may be running

CW: RACISM
you are aware of the “all minds think alike” aphorism, right, what you are probably not aware of is the rest of it which says “...though fools seldom differ”
a really strange coincidence i came across is two examples of racism which are surprisingly similar across very different writers separated by time and space.
you might be familiar with H.P. Lovecraft’s infamous poem “on the creation of n-words”
When, long ago, the gods created Earth In Jove's fair image Man was shaped at birth. The beasts for lesser parts were next designed; Yet were they too remote from humankind. To fill the gap, and join the rest to Man, Th'Olympian host conceiv'd a clever plan. A beast they wrought, in semi-human figure, Filled it with vice, and called the thing a ----------.
lovely. now, this was written on 1912. what is interesting is that forty years before this, argentinian poet Jose Hernandez published an epic about the gaucho Martin Fierro, essentially a cowbow outlaw who is forcibly conscribed to fight in the argentinian army against native americans but who then escapes to live with the natives. in one of its many adventures he gets drunk at a bar and comes across a black man and recites this little limerick
A los blancos hizo Dios, A los mulatos San Pedro, A los negros hizo el diablo Para tizón del infierno
(whites where made by god
browns by saint peter
and blacks where made by the devil
to be coals in hell)
(it should be pointed out that fierro is meant to be a byronic hero, he’s supposed to be a crusty asshole, though still sympathetic by the standards of the time) so, it really is astounding how similar in theme, concept and structure both poems are, i have a really hard time believing that lovecraft read martin fierro, so this must be purely coincidental but holy shit.
fools seldom differ indeed
